Biden's Big Lie

Politics | Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 7:54:28 pm PDT

In tonight’s debate, Joe Biden claimed that Barack Obama never said he would meet unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

That was a blatant, shameless lie.

Let’s go to the video, Stinky.

Youtube Video

UPDATE at 10/2/08 8:30:07 pm:

Here’s the list: Biden’s 14 Lies.

Ouch, that's going to leave a mark.

2 rw in san diego  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:56:51pm

Thanks for posting that, Charles. That is one remark he cannot walk away from.

3 stuiec  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:56:59pm

Biden was carrying enough botox in his forehead to kill off an entire elementary school.

4 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:57:00pm

There you have it, folks. The tale of the tape.

5 Catttt  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:57:59pm

Huge lie. Once of several huge lies.

Say it ain't so, Joe!

6 Oldasdirt  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:11pm

Biden sucks moonrocks

7 Intrepid  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:27pm

Joe's lunch is gonna get eaten tomorrow! Fred just listed several - 5 at least - outright lies from Plugs tonight.

8 stuiec  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:28pm

Fred Thompson is citing several Biden lies to Chris Wallace on Fox News. Including the clean coal comment to the enviro-wacko and the Bosnia resolution ("I was in the Senate and John McCain was lobbying me to support Clinton on it").

9 Jetpilot1101  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:44pm

I guess the botox is going to Biden's brain.

Problem is, this will get no play on the MSM.

10 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:48pm

Has Stinky got some of Biden's greatest hits in that vault?
Let's play 'em!

11 LockeOn  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:54pm

Joe, blindly defending the guy he attacked 6 months ago!

12 jaunte  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:58:59pm

It's not like bloviating in the Senate anymore, the cameras and the tapes are running now.

13 Macker  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:29pm

Biden's ass is fact-checked already! ALL HAIL CHARLES & STINKY!

14 Sharmuta  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:43pm

The dems really screwed up- they should have put up Hillary. At least she had some sense.

15 Irene NYC  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:47pm

Chris Wallace just said that, "It may be harder for Tina Fey to mock her on SNL, but Lord knows they'll try."

Good one, Chris.

16 Syrah  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:50pm

So here I sit half smashed on a bottle of Twisted Zin, feeling really good about the Republican Party now that we have someone like Sarah Palin at the front of our parade.

This is the Republican party that can win! This is the Republican party that can fight for what is right even if it is not PC to talk that way.

Sarah Palin is what I want the Republican Party to be.

McCain & Palin '08!

Tomorrow is payday. Sending them another check!

Yeah!

Feeling good! Oh Happy Day!

Play it loud and dance with me Lizards!

Oh Happy Day!

17 Pshawalaw  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:52pm

Sarah warned him that his lies would be called out afterwards.

18 doriangrey  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 7:59:52pm

Democrats lie, thats what they do.... Catch them in a lie and it doesnt matter they just lie more and the corrupt MSM covers for them....

19 karmic_inquisitor  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:00:11pm

No.

You are all wrong.

Obama did not say those things. You are just plain wrong.

/The "retort" that the MSM will run with.

20 Athos  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:00:12pm

This lie is particularly telling and egregious - Obama tried to run the same line of crap at last week's debate with McCain and got hammered for it. Not only wasn't it a good lie, it wasn't an original lie.

21 spidly  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:00:17pm

but that was years ago when he was young.
note how he has no grey in his hair then

22 Occasional Reader  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:00:59pm

Joe, blindly defending the guy he attacked 6 months ago!

Yeah, he hated it when Sarah mentioned that.

24 J.D.  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:01:05pm

Oh, he'll have an explanation for that. Might be unintelligible, but he'll have one.

25 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:01:06pm

Biden's ass is fact-checked already! ALL HAIL CHARLES & STINKY!

You mean McCain's web ad team doesn't have this all edited together yet?

26 MandyManners  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:01:06pm

Does Joe really think he can just flat-out lie and not be caught?

27 Dr. Shalit  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:01:07pm

Stinky for Secretary of "Troof."

28 Luigi  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:01:56pm

SarahCUDA brought her A game tonight!

32 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:02:21pm

Ronald Reagan, The Great Communicator

Barack O'bama, The Great Clarifyer

33 Occasional Reader  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:02:29pm

Hillary actually made some sense in this answer. Which, uh, doesn't make you look good in contrast, Oh The One.

34 godfrey  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:02:46pm

re: #26 MandyManners

Of course Biden thinks he can lie. He does it all the time. That's what he's paid for.

35 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:02:51pm

This was the one question that Ifill snuck in for 0bama, IMO.

36 Racer X  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:02:57pm

Nice job Sarah!

John, you're up next. Go get 'em!

37 ciaospirit  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:01pm

Fred Thompson just did a laundry list of Biden's "misrepresentations". He included the unconditional comment. Rush and Levin are going to nail Biden's ass tomorrow.

38 MandyManners  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:06pm

re: #29 doriangrey

Yes Mandy, he really does.

I quit watching for a bit after that. I couldn't stomach it.

39 willowone  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:15pm

Obama"you did NOT hear me say that. I said," what i thought they wanted me to say, but i didn't really mean,"

MSNBC will be all over this.

41 shug  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:21pm

Charles, you obviously don't understand nuance

/

42 Hucbald  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:30pm

Not sure this was a knockout blow, but Palin won hands down. Joe actually outperformed my expectations, which just means he was less craptacular than usual, and Sarah finally got the chance to shine, even with Gwen "Ifill Your Pain" running interference (Check Hugh Hewitt for the moment I'm talking about: Joe was exposed for a killing roundhouse, and "Ifill Your Pain" interrupted Palin).

Go Sarah!

43 bcgirl  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:33pm

yes out and out lie and there were at least a couple more probably

44 Ojoe  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:41pm

Let's have a liar a heartbeat away from the presidency?

45 taxfreekiller[deleted]  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:03:57pm
46 Desert Dog  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:04:00pm

"These are not the droids you are looking for....." That works with the smittened and brainwashed worshipers and the fawning and in the tank media. But, when your "Force is weak", it does not work on people with an engaged brain. He's been spinning this since he said it. He said a lot of things that he is now blatantly lying about. Why isn't McCain hammering him on this stuff more?

47 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:04:10pm

re: #32 Fat Bastard Vegetarian

Oh yeah. Time to go back to my old line.

Ronald Reagan, The Great Communicator

Barack O'bama, The Great Clarifyer

Oh. Sorry. Clarifier.

48 Occasional Reader  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:04:24pm

And note that Biden's weasel answer won't help him: Oh, Ahmadinejad isn't the "leader", the mullahs are.

Ah. So Obama would meet THEM unconditionally? That's supposed to be an improvement?!

49 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:04:44pm

So, Gov. Palin, are all these former Secretaries of State wrong?

Palin Scalps Obama at Debate.
Disappointed with scalp

51 Quintus_Arius  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:04:54pm

Palin wins! Go GOP. The game is back on. I love soccer moms,,,

Go Irish! Our soccer team!

52 rawmuse  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:02pm

Yeah, Charles, THAT right there is why you are THE MAN!
I was watching Biden say that and saying "What the...?"
How do these people get away with it?
It is usually because WE LET THEM DO IT.
But, deep down, the thing that really hurts is that when they lie like that, it insults my intelligence. They think they can get away with it.
I hope we prove them wrong.

53 Pshawalaw  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:07pm

Biden thought he was so clever talking about McCain voting against an amendment to give the troops support. McCain voted against the Bill that would have set a time table for return, he voted against the Bill not against an amendment. They stuff all Bills so full of crap, see yesterday's bailout Bill, it is just wrong.

54 shug  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:10pm

oops. Biden

55 Perivayne  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:12pm

Hmm...the remark about his neighbor's "getting it" about the economic situation and the pathetic buy-out, er, bail-out?

Joe lives in Greenville, De...the same neighborhood as the DuPonts and other wealthy elite.

Oh, yeah, they get it alright. And Joe's going to make sure that they get it.

56 Sharmuta  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:31pm

Let's have a liar a heartbeat away from the presidency?

Actually- if 0bama wins we'd have a liar as President.

57 Pullus Iulius  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:05:33pm

Frank Luntz: Palin won. Period.

But ... tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow ... heh.

She fell back a bit on the McCain Maverick stuff a bit too much, but not nearly as much as before... Which is why she came across well.

Biden LIED. Oh boy did that mofo lie... lie, lie, lie like a dog, and the sad thing is you can't even tell if he thinks it's true or not because he's a little bit crazy like that. I think he did surprisingly well - some very, very nasty home run shots at McPain's record, well-constructed and very carefully coached ("This girl is talking nonsense, it's a matter of record that McCain voted in favor of kicking puppies and starving old people 5,000 times! Google it, people!"), and please, G-d, McCain needs to shoot this McSame/McBush meme out of the sky... Palin took a shot at it, thankfully, it's about TIME somebody fought back... But more is needed.

Both of them did better than I expected, almost like the roles were switched from the first Presidential debate. The junior person performed 100% better than expected, to match or beat the senior person, who performed 10% better than expected.

What an odd election.

Good to see the real Sarah Charm at work again too. It's been missing for a few weeks (filtered out, perhaps?)

Did anyone count how many time Biden said "John McCain"? He must have said mentioned McCain's name a thousand times. Ten times more than he said Obama! Most of his whole debate was about John McCain's old votes. I didn't find that very compelling a reason to vote for Obama!

I think Palin did a great job! She comes across so well when she's not edited by the media. Just let Sarah be Sarah! I'm so excited...I'm going to see her on Saturday at a rally here in Los Angeles. A bunch of my friends and I are going. Can't wait to see her up close.

Conservative blogs - I see "thank you Jesus" and Amen; a lot of WOW; and huge lot of AWESOME.

The key thing, I think, is that she defeated the image of herself as a liability for John McCain. That will allow McCain to focus on the great damage done to his campaign by the economic downturn. I'd sure like to see him piece together a better presentation of who exactly -- and whose policies -- led to the very same downturn.

It is usually because WE LET THEM DO IT.

I hope we prove them wrong.

I hope so too. But just like Nazi propaganda ... re: Dresden for example ... [Link: formerspook.blogspot.com...]

"The emergence of more accurate casualty totals doesn't diminish the horror of Dresden, but it does place it in a correct historical context. It also reminds us that truth is often the first casualty of history, as it is in war."

The Liberals know they can lie and lie. Many of the voters hear it often enough - they accept it. It's a form of advertising.

Did you pick up on her hands and voice shaking? Did you see how she was flipping her pen around compulsively? It's as close to openly scared as I've ever seen her on television, and yet she got in there and fought it out blow for blow. She really had a clamp down on her nerves, and I don't blame her for being nervous, since the election may have been riding on her performance, and she had to go up against a Beltway veteran AND the entirety of the media, on the national stage, with only one shot to make her first debate impression.

I got a very clear message of relief and barely suppressed anger when she finally got clear and mingled with her family. She could have killed Biden with the look in her eyes alone.

She didn't look nervous to me, but she did let him get away with some stuff.

HOWEVER, she got him a good one several times, and it took the shit-eating grin of Joe's face real quick.

re: #171 Cognito

I think Sarah Palin certainly did well tonight. A victory, I'd say. The trouble is she started in a hole, and tonight climbed her way back to level ground.

The key thing, I think, is that she defeated the image of herself as a liability for John McCain. That will allow McCain to focus on the great damage done to his campaign by the economic downturn. I'd sure like to see him piece together a better presentation of who exactly -- and whose policies -- led to the very same downturn.

(PS: If I hear "game changer" from one more talking head, I plan to start swinging. It's a big language, guys. Roam around a bit.)

I don't know this, but I suspect McCain is waiting until some sort of bill passes the House before "naming names" as he has promised. Will he? I can only hope so. Time to call the bastards out. If he want to win he must. Time to get confrontational and not roll with the tide once the bill passes - and I do think it must, no matter how distasteful.

re: #211 Pawn of the Oppressor

Maybe that only came across in the HD feed.

i didn't notice that she was nervous at all.
she seemed to be enjoying herself.

Back in late August, the day after the dem's convention when conservative support for John McCain was not where it needed to be, Sarah Palin came on the scene and electrified conservatives to an extent not seen since Reagan.

And after a couple of bad weeks on the economic front, conservative support for McCain started wavering. Tonight she flipped the switch again.

We have to keep in mind what is at stake here: lackluster support (or even NO support) for John McCain from conservatives will give us an Obama presidency.

I think she also may have won over quite a few independents tonight, as well as some fence-sitters.

Yeah, Lady Roommate thought to make the argument that you had to interpret the Constitution's intentions for that particular case. I told her that the Constitution doesn't even come close to addressing any kind of gay marriage issue.

Biden was just unbelievable. I know the Democrats are very comfortable with self-contradiction in service of sound bites, but it got to the point where Palin was actually shaking her head, thinking probably something like "I can't believe this sh-t", that he would contradict himself in his own single sentence just to hit that McBush button.

Against surge-esque tactics in Afghanistan because the commander said it wouldn't work, but we need to send more troops (uh, isn't that basically what the surge is, for starters?)? Huh?

McCain = McBush because he doesn't want to get the troops out of Iraq, and he voted against troop funding, but we admit that he voted against the troop funding only because there was a timetable attached, which is bad, and we're better because we want a timetable, and get us out of there, but the commanders don't want a timetable, but we need to listen to the commanders... WTF Joe?

Income redistribution is now redefined as "fairness". Hey thanks asshole, what happens when two surgeons get married? Guess what, combined household income up there in Enron/ExxonMobil territory, no?

Let's go into Darfur, but only if we can win... Lovely. So much for those people on the receiving end of Arab-funded militias. Palin missed a chance to crucify him here, in that all he ever votes for is wars we're sure to win quick and cheap - everything else, he wants to "talk".

Joe Biden seemed as if he, not Obambi, were running for president.

I'd like to see more truth telling. Truth about the (Carter) roots of the current economic mess. Truth about Obama's Marxist upbringing and affiliations, Truth about the WOT.

303 J.S.  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 8:47:48pm

I think Palin was pretty clear tonight that Biden changes his tune at the merest hint that political winds are shifting...thus, Biden was opposed to Obama when Biden was running against Obama, but now that Biden becomes the Vice Presidential pick, Biden suddenly endorses all of Obama's flawed and error-prone policies. This became painfully obvious when Biden's attention was directed to Afghanistan....thus, Biden early-on had endorsed McCain's positions (siding with McCain and opposed to Obama), but now Biden has changed his tune and sides with Obama... and Biden (in a lame and desperate attempt) suggested that more troops in Afghanistan were needed, yet that "surges" don't work...yeah, try to get that one straight, Joe...What all of this brought out is that Biden and bin Osama's policies of "change" are nebulous and amorphous -- they shift all over the place -- and they become whatever to whomever at a moment's notice...so one moment Biden bin Obama supports Hamas and Hezbollah and a "change from Bush's policies with respect to Israel", the next minute they don't (they just "love Israel")....Yeah, well, that's change I don't believe in -- so keep your change, Biden...I can do without it.

And calling Skeletor out for spewing the liberal talking points! Awesome!

Morris had the pundit line of the night: "You're incredible, Alan. You're absolutely incredible. Is it that you can't think, or that or you only know how to read those talking points?" Did you hear the dinner bell in the background? Because Colmes just got served!

re: #297 Stuck-in-CA

McCain hid Sarah for too long. Didn't trust she could handle the biased media. And the interviews they let her do were in enemy territory...where they edit the interviews to show her in the worst light. They do that all the time. They couldn't edit out her highlights tonight! Considering the short time she's been under the pressure of being in the public eye, and after being ambushed by a hatefilled media who smeared, insulted and trashed her for the last month, she really shone like a star with grace and a good positive attitude.

Screw that! It was a classic rope-a-dope! The media got in their licks over the last couple of weeks and everyone thought Palin was wounded -- and the trap was set. It put Biden off his game and it made the performance she was going to give in any case look that much more spectacular.

RE: Killian Bundy. Server power. Donations etc.

Regretfully, the hampster issue dissapointed tonight.

This, of course, is a good thing in a certain sense. Demand swamping supply is a business dream.

More supply at critical times is required. But I don't know how to do this or what it would cost.

Heck, Charles is the expert on this stuff.

But I haven't read here at LGF anything about capacity/costs/what would be required etc.

There are many ways to raise funds (if that is even the issue.)

But I hope Charles and LGF are working on a method to supercharge hampsters.

McCain/Palin 08!

re: #252 zombie

You got me stumped. I've never even heard the phrase "Slap ma fro!"

It was popular in geek communities in the late 80s and early 90s.

Comes from a program that used to ship with BSD Unix builds (originating out of Berkeley, which got me to think of it when you commented on doggonit).

It would translate text submitted to it into Jive. The program has since been purged from Unix/Linux and just about everywhere else (including Google - could not find anything on it through Google - the thought police are busy these days). So now the program is only recalled sentimentally by subversives like myself.

Anyway, it is obvious that a white guy wrote jive because of the "Slap ma fro!" phrase that would sometimes show up in translations.

I located an online Jive processor (at a University no less - not for long if we send it much traffic and it gets discovered). Subversives changed the name to "Bork" in an effort to throw off liberal critics engaged in purge behaviors - who could object to "Borking" text?

Here is a sample translation of a Fox News item on the debate:

Original text:

Sarah Palin accused the Democratic ticket of waving a "white flag of surrender in Iraq," while Joe Biden accused John McCain of being wrong on war policy from the beginning, as the vice presidential candidates faced off for their only debate in St. Louis Thursday night.

The candidates mostly kept attention on the top of their tickets, defending their own running mates and throwing charges at each other's presidential nominee.

The candidates grappled over the economy and energy policy, but got particularly heated over foreign policy.

Translated text (with a "Slap ma fro" in there after a couple of tries):

Sarah Palin accused da damn Democratic ticket uh wavin' some "honky flag uh surrenda' in Iraq," while Joe Biden accused Raz'tus McCain uh bein' wrong on war policy fum de beginnin', as de vice super-dudeial kindun didates faced off fo' deir only debate in St. Louis Dursday night. De kindun didates mostly kept attenshun on de top uh deir tickets, defendin' deir own runnin' mates and drowin' charges at each oder's super-dudeial nominee. What it is, Mama! De kindun didates grappled ova' de economy and energy policy, but gots particularly heated ova' fo'eign policy. Slap mah fro!

As you can see, if someone wrote such a program at Berkeley today they'd be up against a hate crimes charge, which was why I thought you'd want to see it.

With sincerest apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning

My Fellow Americans:

How do I lie to thee? Let me count the ways.
I lie to thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I lie to thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I lie to thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I lie to thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I lie to thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and without my childhood's faith.
I lie to thee with a lie I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I lie to thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but lie to thee even more until this election is over.

~Joe Biden

re: #290 Pawn of the Oppressor

You could spend all day tearing down the unLogic of BidenThink.

Sarah Palin was smiling and shaking her head because each misstatement by Biden was one more piece of insurance against any gaffes on her part being dissected the next day. As it turned out, she made no gaffes that I noticed.

the Darfur comment really p!ssed me off. The Congress passed a resolution in 2004 declaring the situation Genocide (which is a big dean in UNSpeak). the UN refused to categorize it as anything other than Ethinic Cleansing because, of course they aren't going to get involved if they don't have to.

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

That's what having and adhering to principles means. But, then, the Dems wouldn't know.

Biden was making me mad by being an angry partisan liar.
Then Palin was making me madder by not calling him on all the BS.

If McCain has no plan to end the war (another lie, by the way), Obama has no plan to WIN the war. Why didn't Palin rub Biden's nose in his stupid plan to partition Iraq into three parts?

re: #339 Rancher

As the new holders of these mortgages can we the people foreclose or do we have to "make sure these folks don't loose their homes?"

If you're asking my opinion, its foreclosure.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who spend other people's money on things they can't afford.
If you can't pay for your home, you get booted.
Maybe next time you'll buy a home you can afford.

But the LAST thing the gov't should do is start paying people's mortgages for them, or as Biden stupidly suggested, change the PRINCIPAL of the loan. That's just theft.

Another thing, Biden bragged about Obama writing a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury warning him of the mortgage crisis (this presumably AFTER Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan make a public statement explicitly warning that if Fannie and Freddie weren't reigned in, the entire credit market and economy could collapse).

Apart from telling the Secretary how to do his job, did Senator Obama actually SPONSOR legislation to DO anything about this? No.
Did Senator McCain? Yes.

Sarah wiped the up floor with Biden. Her grasp on the issues blew Biden's multiple gaffes out of the water. Joe was trying to refute her grasp of the issues with liberal talking points, Joe's gaffes proved that. Sara exuded confidence while Joe spewed the lies that liberals love to repeat. Hey Joe, no matter how many times you repeat a lie, it's still never the truth. Liberal blogs are spewing hatred for Sarah, while Conservative blogs are giving a rational opinion of both sides of the debate. Liberals are afraid because she made Joe look like a fool because Joe left the any real grasp of the issues at the front door. Liberals are spewing hate because a Governor from Alaska made Senator from Delaware look uninformed on the real issues American's are dealing with. Sarah aced it. There are no do-overs in politics, sorry Joe.

re: #171 Defogger

"If Obama wins, he will at some point declare martial law and suspend the Constitution. There will be no election in 2012. That's what Marxist dictators do."

You know what? I am sick of this crap. This is the same shit the LLL has been spouting for years. I have yet to see Bush putting armed forces on the street corner to silence dissent.

I highly doubt that the "O" will try to do this. Why? Because there are too many of us who are clinging to our guns to allow it to happen and many of those who are in the military and have the same weapons and also happen to believe as we do. So unless the "O" can purge the military of those who oppose him and replace them with those who support him it's not going to happen. End of story.
