Daily Kos: Get Out There and Spam Every Poll

Politics | Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 8:48:29 am PDT

Looking around the web this morning, we see a whole lot of silly, meaningless Internet polls asking who won last night’s debate—and in quite a few of them, Joe Biden seems to be doing quite well, even coming out ahead of Sarah Palin.

Curious, isn’t it? Why would Biden be ahead of Palin in so many Internet polls? Were we just imagining that she crushed his hair-plugged head in ways it has never been crushed before?

No. The answer is simple, and it’s the same reason why Ron Paul did so well in online polls while totally failing to reach the general public. The “progressives” and the Kos Kids are going around the web and stacking every poll they can find, in an organized effort to skew the perception of the debate as much as their little blank hearts can manage.

Daily Kos: CALL TO ACTION!  ’FREEPING FOR JESUS’:  THE VP DEBATE.

Aren’t they cute?

I think "win" and "lose" take on a different meaning when you look at the debate as part of an overall campaign strategy.

I was initially disappointed when Palin allowed Biden to throw around all kinds of "facts" about McCain's Senate record without calling him on any of it. Then it occurred to me that, just maybe, the old Skyhawk pilot McCain was using Palin as a "Wild Weasel" to draw fire from a careless Biden.

If that was the strategy it worked brilliantly.

Joe Biden has been in the Senate a long time, so long that he may have forgotten that he can't "revise and extend" remarks he makes in a debate conducted outside of its chambers. Palin could not possibly have memorized every bit of McCain's Senate record to refute whatever Biden may have said, so she didn't bother to try. By the time the debate was over the McCain campaign, the blogosphere, and the alternative media were de-constructiong each of Biden's charges and finding that many of them were not completely accurate- to say the least.

By the time the Sunday talkies hit the air the list of Biden's mistakes, fibs, exaggerations, misrepresentations, and outright lies about McCain's record will be a mile long, and if my suspicions are correct McCain will shove that list in BO's face at Tuesday's debate and say something like: "your campaign lied to the American people about my record, so why should they belive ANYTHING you have to say!?"

It may not happen, but I would not be the least bit surprised if it did.

Joe, I think you've been had.

Pity...

NOT!

Polls are BS because:

1. the ballot is secret and polls are not.
2. Polls can be trickily worded and the ballot is secret.
3. You can lie to a pollster & you cannot lie to the ballot.
4. Polls can be used to influence the ballot & the ballot is just the ballot.
5.Polls come to you, but you have to get up off your ass to vote.

And

Polls are bogus because

Idiots like the Kossites warp them

On the good side, if the "progressives" have to resort to these tactics, there's a whiff of blood in the water.

Sarah didn't have to be The Great Debater last night. But she certainly put the lie to the Tina Fey portrayal of her as an unqualified dunce. She reassured people who might be having media-fed doubts about her that she can do the job. They are going to have to find another method of discrediting her. But you have to have a kitchen sink left to be able to throw it.

Curious, I responded with a query about what topic or industry these bloggers would be working in. They sent back a job description listing the normal tech-writer skill-set. I am a little concerned about the possibility of this having some impact on the MSM reporting. This AM our local Fox news channel reported that Biden won according to the CNN poll. This was the only polling mentioned and it is tied directly to CNN's Internet polling.

While normally not crazed about the mindless mush produced at DKO it does concern me that they might have some impact on skewing the general ambiance of the race through polling manipulation, epically if the MSM channels are not smart enough to provide balanced opinions.

89 SixDegrees  Fri, Oct 3, 2008 10:24:03am

The most hilarious thing, which will happen next, is that the same people doing the poll spamming will sincerely believe that the poll results are accurate. We saw this in the last several elections; after massive poll flooding, there was massive whining when the actual election results didn't match the doctored poll results. This, in fact, was the basis for several of the "poll tampering" complaints fielded by the Left.

Look for the same thing to take place this time around.

I dunno... I think maybe the polls, regardless of KOS kid manipulations, could validly reflect the opinions of internet-denizens. I mean, this group skews left anyway, plus the fact of the matter is... Unless you look at what Sen. Biden said last night, and run down a fact checker, and realize that about half was exaggeration or mischaracterization, and the other half was pretty much outright lies, you might have seen him as a winner because he seemed calm, comfortable with the cameras and the in-the-bag moderator, and happy to always get the last word on every subject. He delivered his steaming piles of horse manure forcefully and believably... so much so that it took me a few minutes to realize some of the whoppers he was spinning... and I was looking for them.

What needs to happen now is a flood of coverage on the ridiculous things he claimed. Unfortunately, the best the world will see is a one for one list of misstatements, one for Palin matching every one of Biden, that I read this morning on MSN. They even left out the really big Biden ones... and had to stretch for Palin... like the fact that physical construction on the natural gas pipeline has yet to begin, doesn't really invalidate the negotiations and deals in place to make it happen. It certainly doesn't make Palin a liar for touting her role in getting the project rolling.

On the other hand, I refuse to believe that Biden and Obama were the two senators standing up with meaningful opinions on every issue that has faced this country in the past 20 years.... but that was pretty much the core statement of Biden's debate rhetoric.

Do you know what Kos means in Farsi ?

99 twons  Fri, Oct 3, 2008 12:56:51pm

I'm sure that they think they own the concept of "freeping", but the irony is no doubt lost on them as to the origin of the term.

"Freeping" is named for that bastion of far-rightwingedness, FreeRepublic.com. They work toward doing the same sort of things, on behalf of the right. They spam polls to make them worthless, undertake E-mail campaigns, etc, to put out the Right's POV. They've been doing it for years; now the Kos Kiddies have apparently taken some sort of ownership of the term and concept.

Irony, thy name is Markos.....

re: #78 Captain Faris

The liberal netroots actual "recruit" and pay bloggers (actually, "commenters") to do this as a job. A craigslist ad local to my area was seeking part-time writers or bloggers. Curious, I responded with a query about what topic or industry these bloggers would be working in. They sent back a job description listing the normal tech-writer skill-set. It said these employees would themselves have to find as many blogs as possible to participate in. Then it cryptically referred to a familiarity with "Turks", i.e. the "Young Turks".

As you know, the "Young Turks" are a dedicated team of ultra-progressive propagandists seeking to control the American political landscape.

That's a story unto itself. Wow.

"Freeping" a poll comes from over at freerepublic.com. Folks over there, moi included, will sometimes post polls that are being overrun by liberal idiocy for some corrective, ah, discipline as it were. A bit of the ol' ultra-voting, eh what. (The biggest difference--most FReepers I know will only vote in the poll ONCE, not spam it, just to prove that there's more of us out there than there are of the moonbats.)

I find it pretty damn funny that the Kossacks can't even come up with their own term for organizing their little litterbox of the Intertubes to vote in polls...they have to steal ours!

ewww. You shouldn't make us dirty up our screens with kos crap. The smell is overwhelming. And that was AFTER the windex bath.

Now,admittedly ,I didn't see the debate, but I read that the Guardian said Palin "held her own".I interpret that to mean she floored him with a devastating combination of 4 left jabs and a right uppercut, stomped on his semi-prone body ,then grabbed him by the feet ,swirled him around her head and threw him back to Scranton.......but like I said ,I didn't see the debate.

ahahahaha, that's perfect!

Look at it this way. They spoof the polls and it takes time and effort to do that. They publicly congratulate each other on their successes of poll stuffing. So what did their stuffing get them? A few polls get skewed and little else. What would really surprise me if they left the polls alone and lived with the results. That won't happen.

Spam ev'ry Net poll
As part of a scheme
Then self-congratulate
With a primal scream

Polls whose respondents are self selected are worthless.

This over blogging on internet polls may backfire. If I was some dumb Obamite thinking "my messiah" was creaming McCain I might decide I don't need to get out of bed after a night of partying and making it down to the polling booth because I can count on everyone else...
I remember listening to Hannity in 2004 as he was getting the" polling numbers" from people leaving the voting stations who were asked by pollsters standing outside who they voted for. Hannity was clearly unnerved as the "numbers" were looking like a landslide for Kerry. Bush won.
This year will be even more misleading with the race card in play.People may not want to admit that they have a brain and voted for McCain/Palin.

Hey all.. It is not just the KOS that send people to the on-line polls.
The Move-on.org Obama campaign sends out e-mails to hit the polls.

Mass Mental Masturbation! A good one! but it feels so good.

With the debate in the news tomorrow and over the weekend, newspaper editors will be looking for response letters to print.

These letters can help show voters that while Sarah Palin's talking points were well presented, they revealed that a McCain/Palin White House would look a lot like the Bush/Cheney White House. Here are a few examples:

Palin on Iraq: "Your plan [for a timeline for withdrawal] is a white flag of surrender in Iraq."3
Palin on Cheney's expansive view of the vice presidency: "Yeah, so I do agree with him that we have a lot of flexibility in there, and we'll do what we have to do to administer very appropriately the plans that are needed for this nation."4
Palin on Republicans being held accountable for Bush's presidency: "...Americans are going to say, 'Enough is enough with your ticket,' on constantly looking backwards, and pointing fingers, and doing the blame game."5

Here's some of what Biden said during the debate:

Biden on Obama's economic priorities: "The economic engine of America is middle class...John wants to add $300 [billion] in new tax cuts per year for corporate America and the very wealthy while giving virtually nothing to the middle class. We have a different value set."6

Biden on Obama's Iraq plan: "With all due respect, I didn't hear a plan. Barack Obama offered a clear plan. Shift responsibility to Iraqis over the next 16 months. Draw down our combat troops. Ironically the same plan that Maliki, the prime minister of Iraq and George Bush are now negotiating. The only odd man out here, only one left out is John McCain."7
Biden on whether McCain's a maverick: "Let's talk about the maverick John McCain is...He voted four out of five times for George Bush's budget, which put us a half a trillion dollars in debt this year and over $3 trillion in debt since he's got there. He has not been a maverick in providing health care for people. He has voted against—he voted including another 3.6 million children in coverage of the existing health care plan...He's not been a maverick when it comes to education. He has not supported tax cuts and significant changes for people being able to send their kids to college. He's not been a maverick on the war. He's not been a maverick on virtually anything that genuinely affects the things that people really talk about around their kitchen table."8
