US Shelves Iran Diplomatic Outpost

World | Tue, Oct 7, 2008 at 10:41:50 am PDT

Last weekend the Bush administration quietly abandoned plans to send diplomats to Iran.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration has shelved plans to set up a diplomatic outpost in Iran, in part over fears it could affect the U.S. presidential race or be interpreted as political meddling, The Associated Press has learned.

The proposal to send U.S. diplomats to Tehran for the first time in three decades attracted great attention when it was first floated seriously over the summer but has now been placed on indefinite hold as November’s election nears and Iran continues to defy demands to halt suspect nuclear activities, officials told the AP.

Doesn't Bush know he's supposed to sit down and talk with Iran without preconditions? What's wrong with him?

Don't want to complicate the target anyway.

Good.

That means there won't be anyone who needs to be evacuated when the bombs start to fall.

I agree with that. It is in our interest to isolate Iran, but Russia & others don't want to go that way.

For that matter I'd consider pulling all US forces out of Seoul and at least 50 miles from the DMZ.

At this point they protect the Norks as much as the Roks. If we pulled out of artillery range the North might implode in panic.

22 pre-Boomer Marine brat  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 10:50:59am

Besides, where would the delegation be housed? Where would it work out of?

The old American Embassy is now used as the Tehran headquarters for the Revolutionary Guards' Qods Force -- not just the Revolutionary Guards, but the QODS Force, for crying out loud!

23 ErnieG  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 10:51:01am

This is silly. I am sure that there are ways of communicating with the Iranians without having a diplomatic mission that could be exploited for propaganda purposes or held hostage.

Won't matter, if the One gets elected, he will re-open the US Embassy and start the "ass-kissing, we are so sorry" spiel asap. Because, as you all know, it is best to sit down and talk with a group of "no good lying out their turbans dishonest plies of camel crap". I am certain that once Obama meets with the Mad Mullahs, all will be right in the world once again. The darkness will end, the birds will sing, rainbows and unicorns will abound....That is, until the same guys Obama just met with and got from assurances from decides to hasten the arrival of the hidden iman and send a few missiles over to Tel Aviv and start World War 3.

I think whoever wins the election should go down to the National Cathedral every Friday with his cabinet and some leaders from the Congress and the Justices of the Supreme Court and chant, over and over again, "DEATH TO IRAN". Of course, we should televise it and encourage the people that could not attend to have their own personal "Death to Iran" chants at home, you know with Grandma and Uncle Bob and the neighbors. Let's make it a weekly occurrence and broadcast it to the world so everybody knows how we feel about Iran. Then, we can sit in stunned amazement when the Iranians are mad at us and do not want to meet us, you know, face to face, without preconditions. We should also add that we consider them scum of the earth and let them know they are a rotten corpse and will soon disappear.

Ayers and his friends are serious people, they play with fluffy things like education because it is a safe place to hide out and build strength but what they hunger for is real power. Now that they are close they can taste it. Whoever gets Education accepts it for the ability to divert money and hire cadres but that is a side project. To the true vanguards the prize slots are Justice, Treasury and Homeland Security. If they were driven to form a coalition in a Parliamentary system they'd always keep those and give up Education, HHS and Transportation. They believe in controling the police power.

Well, it still makes no sense though: some stations had only Premium, some stations had only regular and some had only diesel. An odd showing if refineries were closed. I think 3 of about 1000 refineries were damaged in Ike, but we are still recovering from that in TN.

Thank you. Before Jimmy Carter turned this country over to lunatics,
there were Iranian military pilots who worked with us, lived in the USA, flew planes in Vietnam on the side of Uncle Sam.

Democrats turned Iran from stalwart friend into Global Foe Number One.

Just another thing I will never forgive nor forget dems did to our country.

Still can't find any sources that Iranian Air Force pilots fought in Vietnam. I did find out that Iranian soldiers fought with the British against the Communist insurrection in Oman in the 1970s.

If the community organizer were to win, he's probably going to invite the vile, delusional idiot called Ahmadinejad along with his rag clad wife to sleep over at the White House. A residence which certain fanatical, racist Obama supporters have now dubbed "The Black House".

After Ahmadinejad's talk with Obama, Iran will completely change their perverted minds and they will no longer seek to wipe out the rotten Zionist entity. Obama will eventually manage to convince Ahmadinejad that at least 92 Jews actually did die in the holocaust, forcing Ahmadinejad and Iran to only doubt the other millions of Jews that supposedly perished in the holocaust. Their meeting will be reported as a huge success according to the highly respectable and unbiased MSM, which will be drooling all over every word that the community organizer speaks. Ahmadinejad will state that he has been shown the light by the "Messiah known as Barry" and that his country no longer will murder gay people, finance and support terrorists or seek the destruction of their neighbors. Obama will also convince Iran to abandon their nuclear ambitions, by promising to dismantle every single nuclear weapon currently in the US arsenal.

Michelle Obama and Ahmadinejad's rag clad wife will discuss various topics, including what's going on in the burkha front, whitey, the newest technological innovations in dildo manufacturing and how to get around town when 90% of your peripheral vision is obstructed.

NATO chief: I'm not positive Iran can be stopped

In what is seen as a rare statement of support for Israel, NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Monday that there was no reason for Israel to surrender its alleged nuclear capabilities in the face of Iran's continued race towards nuclear power.

Speaking at a conference in France, Scheffer said he did not believe the international community would be able to stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb.

"I am not positive about the world being able to stop Iran from fulfilling its ambitions," he was quoted as saying.

"It is a major challenge to prevent Iran from continuing to strive to get the bomb," Scheffer said, adding that his concern was "that the Security Council, as we speak, is rather incapable of coming to further conclusions on further sanctions."

As a result, Scheffer said there was no reason for Israel to give up its supposed nuclear capability. According to foreign media reports, Israel has an arsenal of several hundred nuclear bombs.

"As we all know, Israel never admits to what it has, but I do not see very many arguments for the Jewish state to abandon its potential," the NATO chief said. "What is as dangerous is the missile technology which [Iran] is also developing at a fast pace."

Senior Israeli defense officials said that Scheffer's remarks regarding Israel's right to maintain a nuclear capability was a "precedent" and sent a message to Iran that NATO stood by Israel, which has been repeatedly threatened by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"This is very significant," said one senior official involved in the Israeli-NATO dialogue. "It doesn't mean that NATO will fight alongside with us if it comes to that, but this type of remark by the head of NATO does send a message throughout the Middle East."

LGF Diversity Alert!

I'm thrilled to say that we can now add Professional Gay-Pr0n Actor to the long list of job titles represented among the Lizard Army.

Naturally, I'll spare everyone the much-too-much-TMI details -- except to say that the director (wiki bio work-safe) is quite arguably the Stanley Kubrick of, ahem, "all-male erotica." To the extent that any porn flicks can be termed "cultural landmarks," several of his 1970s features would easily qualify, having been hugely influential and genre-defining in their era.

So when I got wind that this guy was preparing to do a video shoot in NYC instead of the Left Coast, and most importantly (to me) that this project was going to be one of those all-too-rare gay-pr0n features without buttseckx I jumped at the opportunity. Easiest and funnest $100/hr I ever made. (Well, granted, the ONLY time I've ever been paid $100/hr for doing anything.)

I'm just mildly bummed that I wasn't able to do this BEFORE the Beauchamp/TNR debacle -- since a HuffPo scribbler rather ineptly tried to link me with gay porn anyway. So it would've been most refreshing if I'd been able to say "You bet your bippy I've done X-rated videos, fucktards -- and make sure you get my name right; it's 'McGee,' not 'MacGee' or 'Maghee.'"

/full disclosure, always, and je ne regrette rien

Iranian born friends said they spent time growing up on US airbases in Biloxi, MS and said their dad was a pilot who served in Vietnam--I would imagine in a pilot capacity, unless he served DURING the Vietnam war on US bases while an Iranian Air Force Pilot.

All four offspring of this Iranian Air Force pilot spoke with a Southern accent and attended American schools in the South.

ACORN office in Las Vegas raided by Nevada state authorities in voter-fraud probe

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Nevada state authorities are raiding the Las Vegas headquarters of an organization that works to get low-income people to vote.

A Nevada secretary of state's office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away.

Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.

The raid comes two months after state and federal authorities formed a task force to pursue election-fraud allegations in Nevada.

Obama's childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.

The Commie Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Weather Underground member, William Ayers.

In Obama's book

I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists

Do the URJ people see that he omits Hillel students? I guess he would have found some Jews in amongst the "Marxist Professors" and "structural feminists", but the "social justice / social action" Jewish students wouldn't have been on his friend list.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration has shelved plans to set up a diplomatic outpost in Iran, in part over fears it could affect the U.S. presidential race or be interpreted as political meddling,

Or mebbe, fearing a Zero administration, denying the Mad Midget another hostage taking opportunity.

re: #165 summergurl

OT- Hey I clicked on the link listed on the front page for the SNL skit on the bailout an watched it. I was surprised at how good it was and how it blamed the Dems for the crisis and then mocked George Soros. Now it's is being pulled down everywhere and from comments on you tube etc.. it appears NBC is threatening to sue if sites don't pull it? What? Even out link here no longer exists. What's up with that? Does anyone have a link that still works?

Thanks is advance..

BTW - the Palin skit links are still okay to link to--- what a bias!

If all else fails, put it up on thepiratebay.org for bittorrent. Buahahahahahaha!

Yes. Um. Not quite sure what to say, either. Is there a Hallmark card for this sort of thing?

No, there isn't. The hegemonic heteronormativity of the greeting card industry continues to oppress me!!!1!!

You're fishing in the wrong pond with this crap man. No one here wants to celebrate your role in a gay porn flick as liberating anything but your own depravity.

Come on, this is some kind of goof, isn't it.

re: #187 Sol Roth

I think he was just trying to point out that someone who, by his orientation and profession, you'd normally expect to be a died-in-the-wool Lefty is instead over here and is a died-in-the-wool Righty. It was the irony he was pointing out, not the coming-out-of-the-closet aspect.

At least, that's how I read it, anyway,

Why bother opening a 'diplomatic outpost' in Tehran?

..Just use Obama's Center for the Study of Appeasement....I'm sure there is one in Tehran suitable for use. Probably has an automatic Fatwah machine, too.

"Liberate my depravity" -- heh. Rest assured THAT toothpaste was all squeezed out of the tube by my third year of college. (Literally! Some idiot had left the depravity-flavored toothpaste just lying around in a barnyard, and the horse stepped on it while leaving the barn...)

But anyway, thanks for letting me know that LGF isn't an adult-video site -- I was confused on that point, and thought this might be a good place for some targeted marketing to drum up sales.

An 80-year-old man shuffles into a Catholic church and goes to the confessional booth. The priest slides back the little door and the man wheezes, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned."

"What is the nature of your sin?"

"Well, I've been happily married for 60 years and had never once strayed from my wife. But the other day I was out driving in the rain and picked up some hitchhikers -- two gorgeous 19-year-old college girls, one blonde and one Oriental, fashion-magazine looks and what we used to call 'very pneumatic,' with nipples poking every which way through their wet T-shirts from the cold. They were on their way back to school after winter break and had run out of money, so naturally I felt sorry for them and treated them to dinner at the Holiday Inn. Great surf-and-turf buffet there on Thursday nights, you know.

"Anyway, after a few drinks at the bar, I guess their inhibitions loosened and they admitted to being a lesbian couple. But one of them had promised her parents that she'd at least try being with a man before getting same-sex married in Taxachusetts, and she'd always thought that an older gentleman would be much safer to experiment with than a young college guy. So, what could I do? One thing led to another -- we got a room in the Holiday Inn and I signed them in as 'my granddaughters,' they pulled some of that merry-ja-wanna out of their bags and we smoked a bunch of it, then got into some hot, anything-goes, three-way sex -- and boy, did that blonde one like to verbalize! The filthiest mouth she had on her, and she wouldn't shut up, except of course when they were 69-ing each other while I just watched and masturbated, because at my age I did need to take a breather once in a while -- I mean, I tried to pace myself, but 15 hours of sex is a LONG time, believe you me. Of course, the next day I finally came to my senses and realized that it was a terrible sin for me to have cheated on my wife like this."

"It is indeed a grievous offense against God," said the priest, "but confession is the first step towards forgiveness. As a sign of penitence, you should say 300 Hail Mary's while reflecting on Jesus's words in the Gospel of Lu--"

"Er, pardon me, Father," interrupted the little old man, "but what's a 'Hail Mary,' exactly?"

"You're a Catholic... and... you don't know how to pray the Hail Mary?!" stammered the priest, stunned.

"Oh, I'm not Catholic, Father. I'm Jewish."

"Then why on Earth did you come in here to tell me your sins?"

"Tell you? I'm telling everybody!"

Yes, thank you -- that's essentially why I posted it here. Well, that, and as I said, the "full public disclosure" thing. Since I'm out of the closet as a homo and as a right-winger (and get occasional flack from both sides for having "mixed loyalties," or worse), I don't want to ever be accused of trying to cover up my shady past. And at the same time, many people here on LGF have defended me on occasions when others were attacking me (during the Scott Beauchamp imbroglio, for instance). So if anyone feels inclined to defend me in the future, I believe it's only fair to give you a heads-up that I've done things that some would consider scandalous.

That said, I have no intentions of discussing the subject further -- I believe that my post #121 sufficiently puts it on the public Innertubes record.
