Can't count that fast.

10 doppelganglander  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:50:57pm

How on earth do you treat health care as a commodity? I want individualized care, thank you very much. Also, Obama doesn't know what a commodity is.

11 Shug  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:50:59pm

Jesus, where did they get these people?

12 Jetpilot1101  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:16pm

I have great healthcare and I know 0 has it to because we have the same plan.

13 arethusa  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:27pm

Not everyone wants health care.

15 jcm  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:43pm

Obambi didn't understand "health care as commodity"

16 lone_wolf_in_illinois  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:47pm

Here comes Obama's socialist ideas and left leanings, HEALTHCARE, universal that is, unless you have your own.

How do you lower the cost of healthcare by having BHO just talk to the employers?

17 tigerwoman  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:53pm

How long has healthcare been a "crisis"?! Its been the "main" issue in every election I can remember.

18 MandyManners  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:51:53pm

BHO has tinted his hair silver. I started this discussion a while back but, no one seemed to care.

19 Shug  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:52:10pm

Liar

20 Jetpilot1101  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:52:17pm

If Obama gave everyone the same care he has, we'd be bankrupt in less than a month.

21 HelloDare  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:52:20pm

Who cares if "real people" ask the questions. Brokaw picked the questions. This format sucks. Without good follow up, you'd might as well let a random word generator ask the questions.

22 Noam Sayin'  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:52:21pm

Something about Obama talking makes my bowels move.

I could be in for a long four years if this goes bad.

I care Mandy and I think that Sen. McCain has called him on it quite a few times.

27 doppelganglander  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:52:59pm

The problem is not being excluded from care or not having things like mammograms and maternity covered. It's covering TOO MUCH STUFF WE DON'T NEED! I don't need maternity, why do I have to pay for it?

28 rw in san diego  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:04pm

What the hell did Obama just say?

29 Palandine  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:06pm

Ok, Senator McCain, here's the answer you should give:

"Do you like the way the government is managing the economy? If so, you'll LOVE the way they manage medicine."

30 Spellcheck  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:06pm

Get rid of insurance policy mandates, and my coverage will cost a lot less.

31 rawmuse  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:08pm

I remember you saying it. And I agree with you completely.

33 HelloDare  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:22pm

36 Kosh's Shadow  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:43pm

I wish McCain had been clearer on having the 10000 garages. The government isn't likely to pick the winner, but pick the one with the best lobbyists.

Health care, though, is a place McCain loses. His plan would cause employers to drop coverage. If they can't get the tax deduction for it, but can for pay, they'll drop the coverage and maybe give raises.
Fortunately I could buy it through Mass. Bar Association - at $1100 a month (last year, probably 12-1300/month now). If I had to go to an individual policy, it would be unaffordable, at my age and blood pressure (even if it is under control)).
Group, not individual coverage, is the only way, otherwise insurance companies make sure people who need coverage can't get it, because it will cost them.

37 jacksontn  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:52pm

When is this over? How long is this debate?

38 Sleepyone  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:53:54pm

Uh, Obama. My healthcare coverage has actually gone down by nearly $200 per month over the last five or six years. And the only thing that changed was moving to a different state.

Of course it's sucky coverage, as most self-employed people have.

39 arethusa  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:54:02pm

Yes, he will impose mandates! tell them, McCain!

40 Occasional Reader  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:54:10pm

54 Kosh's Shadow  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 6:55:14pm

Going across state lines for health plans is often a disaster for high-cost states like Massachusetts. They cover what Nevada hospitals charge, and Mass charges much more. The rest comes out of pocket.
Sorry, this is one place McCain has it wrong.

They bundle groups of premiums, The investor looking at the actuarial and betting they they make a profit. That over time the payout is less than income.

It helps drive costs down slightly.

So, with this seemingly "moderate" Obama health plan in which the only really exceptional thing is that he's going to make the insurance companies pay for pre-existing health conditions...

What's to stop some jackass from doing without, to save money, and then signing up for a plan only after he gets something serious since the insurance supposedly has to cover him?
That's going to severely upset the insurance companies' books over a few years, and force them to charge more money from those who Barack H. Obama just promised not to screw with.

Can't we? This is a choice between a big turd and a little one. The little one helped define 1st amendment political speech as a form of criminal corruption and is trying to move the country one notch left using what's left of the tired, sickened, and much maligned Republican base as a lever.

The Big one wants to be Dear Leader American style with parades and singing children and mobs breaking his enemy's legs while his lawyers sue them into silence. He wants to starve us of energy so we'll ride the metro and bikes more giving him more room on the road. Also he still thinks he's running against Bush.

When Obama says "The tragedy of 9-11", he is telling us that it is not likely to happen again, that it was more like an act of nature, that the War on Terror has little or nothing to do with preventing another 9-11, that the money can be better spent than on protecting us from terrorists.

We chose the battlefield, we rid the world of Saadam, we drew al qaida in and have been destroying them, we have protected the homeland, and we are sitting on Iran's doorstep.

Obama wanted and wants none of that.

0bama would have continued to allow the Kurds to be killed by saddam.

He would have continued to let Iraqi women to be raped with government approval.

That's not immoral, barry?

In the first debate, he said that Iraq was Iran's mortal enemy, and that "the current administration's policies" have emboldened Iran by eliminating the Iraqi balance. In other words, he pretty much said, in his own words, that Saddam staying in power would have been a good thing for the sake of stability.

I think McCain is getting in some good shots and missing a few easy softballs. Obama is making no sense whatsoever.

I will give 0 this (And I have done public speaking off and on for over 35 years) he is a great speaker. He can string words together on the fly (if you cant dazzle them with brilliance - baffle them with bullshit). They may not make sense ... but he can keep talking. And eliminating Uh from some ones speaking patterns is not a big trick for a professional coach.

Both of them are afraid of silence and pauses can and are profoundly powerful used appropriately.

Somber and RESPONSIBLE....Awesome. Barry sounding like an idiot Pock is ston?

Sounds like a typical Pacifica Radio progressive who speaks all non-English names with a pronounced accent in order to sound authentic.

Obama is making no sense... i'm lost now..

I'm reminded of Lincoln's quote: "That man can pack the most words into the least ideas of any man I know"

mccain not going to telegraph his punches.
obama is an idiot shouting out his plans, trying to sound like a tuff guy.
it's all abt. him and the impression he wants to make. that's all.

403 neocon hippie  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:20:17pm

McCain is doing well but not delivering the smackdown we hoped for. But I've decided not to give the polls too much import given their mixed track record.

8:11PM Obama just said we should have twisted Musharraf’s arm even harder, back when he was still President of Pakistan. And THAT’S how you get stability there? This man is so unprepared I’m literally frightened of when January 20 rolls around.

408 Biff  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:21:08pm

McCain should be saying "I am qualified to be Commander in Chief, Senator Obama is definitely not."

418 BlueCanuck  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:24:57pm

Yes or no. and of course he rambles. But that question seemed a little unfair to me for both candidates.

419 FloridaAnole  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:25:02pm

Obama: Yappity yappity yap yap ... financial assistance ...yap...strenghten them...yappity

420 welshgirl  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:25:27pm

Brokaw is inflamatory with the Russia question.

421 Emery Calame  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:25:41pm

Zerobama creeps me out. He acts like he brought Gort with him from space so he could teach us how to live in peace and melt our assault rifles. He is probably the most dangerous blend of con man and delusional control freak I've ever seen trying for the presidency. He's nearly

Eccch. "Pok-eh-Ston" again.

McCain just said that instead of talking softly and carrying a big stick 0bama just likes to talk loudly. Yep. But a lot of people seem to eat that #@$% up anyway.

0Bama gets a response which means the debate format is broken. All hail the power of "the one". He uses it to lie and say that he never advocated invading or attacking "Pok-Eh Ston" and toss in the "bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran".

McCain responds with an anecdote that he was joking about bombing Iran. And he says he'll get Osama but won't give him any warning the way that 0Bama would.

Now, Tom Brokaw has resumed control over the debate.

God this is a farce.

422 ackomanyuki  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:26:05pm

Pronouncing it Pock-e-Stahn is learned behavior. Its how it is done while holding in a big Pockistani bong hit.

423 a marine mom  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:26:15pm

Go John and kick some A$$

424 badtemper  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:26:31pm

oooooooo.....great questions.

Can't wait for Barry's answer.....

We all know he would wait for the UN.....regardless of what he says.

425 Archimedes  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:26:33pm

Obama rambles. Russia was pushing back Georgia? You mean they attacked them? Speak English, man.

Reagan would eat this guy for lunch.

426 Archimedes  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:28:30pm

The Israel thing, Obama doesn't really believe that thing about them being a strong ally.

427 tronix  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:28:45pm

barry: we honor you service and we're grateful for it...'everything i learned...i learned at the hand of american hating terrorists and ivy league fascists'

428 FloridaAnole  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:30:26pm

Holy bats, moleyman, Bambi is paraphrasing McCain on Iran & Israel. (With unnecessary embellishments).

429 avspatti  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:30:41pm

re: #373 Siberian Khatru

How? At least three generations of successive dumbing down of the educational system, plus thirty-odd years of total domination of the mass media, the press, and higher education by 60s radicals, explains a lot of it.

Multitudes of updings for you! In this election, let's not forget about our local races. WE NEED TO TAKE BACK THE SCHOOLS! I am deadly serious. Whatever happens at the national level, we MUST start chipping away at the 60s rebels' control of the schools.

430 tronix  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:30:57pm

barry" i dont know...ummmmmm....SHIT

431 svines  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:32:09pm

The One seems to be agreeing with McCain a lot tonight. I was totally unaware that he was so agreeable!

McCain certainly has him on the ropes on international relations.

432 tronix  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:32:10pm

barry: ''i was able to go to the best schools on earth"....on the terrorist DIME.......filthy marxist!

re: #427 tronix

Note that the One didn't shake the hand of the Chief? Another telling detail that the One isn't even aware of.

436 ackomanyuki  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:34:35pm

The One thinks Iran still responds to classic real politik in its strategic decision making process.

Memo to the one: The Shah has been diposed for over a generation and has been replaced by pro-active Escatological Dispensationalists.

437 tronix  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:35:06pm

man...if i was palestinian terrorist....i'd feel like going out and buying about 50,000 dollars worth of t-shirts for barry about now

438 tkd_purple  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:35:08pm

He may have won the whole thing with that closings statement. Did you see the way the people were looking at him. That was a look of respect!

439 FloridaAnole  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:38:41pm

They must have had a contest to see who could come up with the lamest questions. That last one was a pip ...what don't you know ... & Bambi's off and running, the gist of his answer being there's nothing he doesn't know.

440 medaura18586  Tue, Oct 7, 2008 7:40:34pm

What a boring debate!
