Is anyone else NOW wondering if lookin' for those WMD's in Iraq, instead of just taking care of biz in the Afghan, was such a good idea?

I'm Impress! Haven't seen anyone use badinage for some time.

I was going to say the same about persiflage! Persiflage is the lagan of "flotsam, jetsam, and lagan."

I'm sure the troops really enjoyed all the time they spent in Hazmat gear.

BarkaLounger quarterbacking that call from here, I can imagine the 'fallout' if the troops would have keeled over by the score for the not-looking routine.

re: #16 arethusa

She's my sorry-ass Senator. I can't believe she beat Jim Talent in 2006. When I went to bed Talent had a 150,000 vote lead and I thought no problem, he'll be re-elected easily. I woke up and saw McCaskill had won by 100K votes, because votes from St. Louis and Kansas City were slow to be counted. I blamed ACORN then, and I haven't changed my mind.

28 wolfie  Wed, Oct 8, 2008 4:39:54pm

re: #16 arethusa

Claire McCaskill is possibly even more annoying than Nancy Pelosi. Thoughts?

Possibly. It depends on your geography. The whole country is subjected to repeated does of the Pelosi pill, which renders the verdict of maximum annoyance to be in her favor. I will admit that McCaskill can certainly compete in depth of obnoxiousness, if not in breadth.

Has anybody played with the google 2001 index? They brought back their oldest index for their 10th birthday - just now had a chance to look at it.

I've been looking up all kinds of interesting stuff (O) that dropped off the radar, and seems to be going down the memory hole at this very moment.

Like this one where the One and Ayers are on a panel (crossing paths) for an event that Michelle organized regarding children that kill...

A lot of other ones on web.archive.org that used to be there and aren't anymore! Not much of an archive is it?

Another reason to add to the "Poll Hammer"

(At the bottom, No. 6)

Polls are BS because:

1. Polls are public; there are at least the pollster and the respondent & more may be listening in & influencing the respondent. The ballot is private.

2. Polls questions can be worded in tricky ways, the ballot is simple.

3. Polls can be used to manipulate & thus the motivation of the pollster may be suspect. The ballot has no similar motivation.

4. You can lie to a pollster, you cannot lie to the ballot.

5. Polls come to you, lazy or not; but you have to get up off your ass to go vote.

6. Only God knows the future.

We sure let Saddam know we were coming for months, man it does not take a genius to figure that he very probably sent the WMD out of the country.

Not only that, after we went into Iraq, Jordan foiled an attempted terror attack from Syria that the Jordanians claim would have killed 20,000.

One can draw some conclusions;

I've had my two cats, Presta and Schrader, for a year and a half now, and they seem to think I am some kind of a cat.

That is a high compliment, from a cat. My cat refuses to acknowledge me as anything other than a being with opposable thumbs and hence the ability to feed her.

T. Boone Pickens, in an interview with Glenn Beck a couple of months ago:

"The price of oil will steadily continue to rise, and by Christmas will hit $150 per barrel. We'll never see the days of $100 per barrel oil again."

Stick with the windmills, T.

Yeah, and we don't hear the libs in DC or Bill O'Reilly screaming about price-fixing or oil speculators anymore, do we?
Let market forces work. Just leave it be, and it'll correct itself, which is what should have been done with the subprime mess, but notice it's always the ones who CAUSED the problem who tell us not to worry, they'll fix it!
Boortz said it best- That's like calling the arsonist to put the fire he set.

98 TheMatrix31  Wed, Oct 8, 2008 4:54:50pm

You guys will NOT believe what I just heard from my parents regarding my little brother, who's ten years old.

So he has this friend named Isaac, who's also ten. Isaac comes over to play, and as soon as he comes in, he notices my dad watching Fox News. He proclaims, "Oh, I have to say I'm disappointed, why are you all watching this Nazi channel?"

My Dad, obviously shocked, goes "What?" Mind you, we're Armenian, so my Dad's English isn't 100% perfect. My Dad was like, "Who brainwashed you with that trash, your parents? Or the TV?" The kid had no response.

I told my Dad I never want to see that kid in my house again, or around my little brother.

This, coupled with the "Bush's Last Day" widget that I found on my same little brother's Mac really piss me off. We were going to eat one night and I noticed that he had a "Bush's Last Day" countdown on his computer. I ask him, "Uh, what the hell is this?" and said that I never want to see that on his computer again, and if I did see it one more time, that the whole computer is going to trash. I told him to remove it IMMEDIATELY.

I asked him where he got it from and he said from his cousin, who is thirteen. This cousin's family is so entrenched in the posh LA, Probama bullshit, which is unbelievable considering my Uncle is a multi-millionaire "disenfranchised" Republican.

I swear, I don't even know what to say anymore.

We sure let Saddam know we were coming for months, man it does not take a genius to figure that he very probably sent the WMD out of the country.

Not only that, after we went into Iraq, Jordan foiled an attempted terror attack from Syria that the Jordanians claim would have killed 20,000.

One can draw some conclusions;

One might be that the "global test" takes way too long.

Or possibly buried in the sand such as he did with many aircraft in the first Gulf War. He also flew a lot of aircraft out of the country then also.

Buried in the sand WMD would make sense if an errant round detonated them and the surrounding area, thereby creating many of the undiagnosed medical problems found in military and Iraqi citizens. Many of the people with undiagnosed medical problems were not in areas where depleted uranium rounds were used or found. This could be a rational explanation perhaps.

Sure, I want OBL the pig-f**ker to [redacted per the Big Man's rules about advocating violence, so use your most graphic imagination and then crank it up to eleven], but 'getting OBL' is NOT the end of the GWOT. Zero makes it seem like once OBL is room temperature, that's it, game over dudes, let's all go have ice cream because we won, yay! I want President McCain to focus on winning the GWOT and when we ice OBL (personally, I think he has been worm food for YEARS), well, that will be special, but it ain't the end of hostilities, not by a long shot. Reducing Islamofascism to holding a single individual responsible is not the way to go, Islamic fascism is MUCH larger than that.

One in Linden, Union County (GM) and One in Edison, Middlesex County (Ford) - If we had a REAL GOVERNOR instead of former Goldman, Sachs Poobah Corzine, we would STEAL the business ASAP under the curent law of Emminent Domain. That is all, for now. Historic sidenote - the GM Plant License Produced Grumman NAVY Fighters during WW II.

I think I realized why there are so many Obama signs around where I live, which is an upscale neighborhood in LA.

Why would all these rich folk (my family is most certainly not rich) support Obama when all Obama wants to do is take their money and distribute it? Then it hit me---LA is a plastic society. By supporting Obama, these people think they'll look like they're such great humanitarians for helping the Democrats and this and that. It's a reputation thing, and it's so disgusting.

I freakin' hate this city.

181 GeeWiz  Wed, Oct 8, 2008 5:16:29pm

I just spent almost an hour on the phone with a close friend, he is an ardent admirer of Charles computer programing abilities, who was leaning towards voting for the "O". I missed 1 1/2 threads but it was worth it. He claimed he called me to get the "real deal" about just what is going on with the economy and the markets. He always leaned to the left and understood I came from the right. He was worried about his investments and the elections. I asked him if he was doing anything different during this fiscal crisis. He said no. I told him, welcome to the club. Most of America will continue to do what they do every day regardless of the market's swings.

I advised my friend to log on here to get the "real deal" on just what is going on. His response was "that's why I call you". I explained the whole Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac fiasco as well as the lack of congressional oversight thing. He asked me why he hadn't heard about that. He claimed that he watches the news and hadn't heard anything about the cause of this problem other than it was because of Bush's failed economic policies. ( at this point I reached for the clue-bat, but refrained, he was a friend after-all ).

I gave my friend some homework. I told him (an internet savvy guy) to look up the Sarbanes/Oxley Act and the Community Re-Investment Act to understand why I take the position I do. I made it clear to him that it has nothing to do whether I have a "D" or "R" after my name. I told him that my reasoning was based on me being an AMERICAN and proud of it!

So, this little gem is posted ALL OVER CNN, MSNBS and Kos right now:

The New Party was a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left. It was an attempt to regroup the forces on the left in a new strategy to take power, burrowing from within. The party only lasted until 1998, when its strategy of “fusion” failed to withstand a Supreme Court ruling, but after, but the membership, including Barack Obama, continued to move the Democrats leftward with spectacular success.

Van Nuys used to make CAMAROS. Quality Control was "Under the Bus" - the reason Van Nuys was closed. Amazingly - Quality Control at FORD, Re: Rangers, was better at Edison, NJ than St. Paul, MN. Ford kept St. Paul open vs. Edison because of shorter/cheaper shipping of parts to plant, with a plan to improve Q.C. at St. Paul. Hope the succeeded, otherwise, closing Edison was a BIG MISTAKE.

No, I am just more brain dead than normal. It was one of those days at work where I was hit coming and going, then I had a community outreach event where I watched older people from an area that used to be a proud blue collar neighbor look lost in the sea of what has moved in and taken over. We were giving out toothpaste and Oreo cookies as little trinkets because our product goes into them. Let me set the stage: older people: "Would you mind if I had one? Can you tell me about your company and why you are giving out toothpaste and cookies? Thank you so very much, I appreciate your time, you lady" Young taker-overs: "gimme one of those and 5 cookies" (as they grab them off the table) Me - "Do you have any questions about Company X?" Young taker- overs: blank stare - "Can I has more toothpaste?" Me - "why? You have no teeth, meth ho." (Not really, but man I wanted to so badly)

That could get real ugly if the armed owner is in no mood to see his family tossed out on the streets, but than again you can't have a house for free on the banks dime.

I use to for close on property back in the late 80's early 90's. It was not fun but I did it all by my self, I did have a couple of friends with me, a Pit bull a German Shepard and a 9MM. I did not like it but that's the way it is.

But I'm sure the State office buildings are being well taken care of.

The incumbent gov. claims a $800 million surplus. That money is in the rainy day fund. The budget next year at current spending levels will be a $3.2 billion deficit. But in debates she claims a surplus. She just ordered cross the board 1% cuts in all departments. Pure campaign politics, across the board is band aid, not digging for waste.

There was no way this fucker was going to go out of his way to register, so I printed out an application from the Supervisor of Elections website using our shop manager's computer. I placed it in front of him with a pen at lunchbreak. He filled it out - bitching and moaning the whole time (he read every word though). Knowing he wouldn't mail it himself, I did it for him.

My dad was County Chaplin near Portland OR. The local churches figured out they were getting scammed by panhandlers asking for gas or food money so they set up a fund they all donated and since my dad didn't have church turf he administered the fund.

The deal was the crises would be dealt with, gas bought, food bought, rent paid flying people around for family emergencies. But no cash.

Sheriff in Ill. county won't evict in foreclosures

I'm not sure if this is good or bad news, but how does a bank take back their forclosed property when the law walks away?

There has been a problem with renters not knowing the home had been foreclosed, and being up to date with the rent. This is something the banks need to take into account, and I am sure the Sheriff was tired of dealing with that problem. This may just be a ploy to get the banks to do their job and get everything straight before sending out the Deputies.

Came whuffling through the turgy wood and burbled as it came!

One-two, one-two, and through and through the vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head, he went gallumphing back.
"And hast thou slain the jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy!"

Yes, I'm still resisting. It's all psychological at this point. It's been over a month. But I still want one. I dream of that first drag.

Left you some advice/info the last time you mentioned this but I think you had left by then.
Here goes:
3 hrs first impulse to go have a cig "just a few puffs"
3 days it's starting to affect you physically and the urge won't go away
3 weeks you think about it but the urge is less. this is most dangerous time. this is when you think "i can have just one" NONONONO never.
3 months you actually go thru a day or 2 where you don't think about smoking (unless you work with smokers; get away from them)

but you have to say no EVERYDAY. take help from AA slogans.
you are not an ex-smoker just a smoker that isn't smoking right now.

I smoked regularly for 20 yrs first time I quit. went back after 2 yrs. (the old "hey I can smoke just one" bit)
next i quit in '98 when I started having heart rhythm (what a weird way to spell rhythm) problems.

Say to yourself "I won't smoke today". Let tomorrow take care of itself.
p.s. it's worth it. it took about 1-2 yrs to feel effects going away. AHHHH Fresh air. And the THINGS I CAN SMELL NOW. I can smell stuff in smaller amounts and from much farther away. (not always a good thing).

Good Luck!

Hate to say this -- quit nine years ago--it never really goes away. You kinda have to learn to avoid situations where you would smoke. Yeah, the taste of that first drag is hard to beat. But, I don't miss the smell on my clothes and car.

KFC cole slaw smells and tastes a bit like Elmer's glue.

I'd suggest looking for a different KFC location...

It seems as if everyone in Barack's life is either a communist, an anarchist, a terrorist, a racist, or dead.

He only associates with the dead to court their vote.

JABBERWOCKY by Lewis Carroll

My most favorite poem and the only one I ever memorized.

The only poems I ever memorized were "Jersualem" by Blake and Byron's:

When a man hath no freedom to fight for at home,
Let him combat for that of his neighbors;
Let him think of the glories of Greece and of Rome,
And get knocked on the head for his labors.

To do good to mankind is the chivalrous plan,
And is always as nobly requited;
Then battle for freedom wherever you can,
And, if not shot or hanged, you'll get knighted.

I have been here before and everytime it was the tenants saying they paid last months rent but never did, I know first hand. If you want me to explain more I will.

Agh!

People mentioning smoking is driving me mad!

I'm a bad person, weak, and I want a cigarette that I cannot have!

Yes, I'm still resisting. It's all psychological at this point. It's been over a month. But I still want one. I dream of that first drag.

'Me heart goes out to you mate! I smoke and would like to quit, but at this point in my life, I am under way too much stress to even consider it. Tough it out, and the best of luck matey!

(In case that bunch of lying liars at the NYT try to say there was no warning ahead of time about the Mortgage problems.)

From a Newsletter by Dick Morris:
FANNIE MAE EASES CREDIT TO AID MORTGAGE LENDING

By STEVEN A. HOLMES

Published in the New York Times on September 30, 1999.

Printer-Friendly Version

In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.

The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets -- including the New York metropolitan region -- will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.

In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers. These borrowers whose incomes, credit ratings and savings are not good enough to qualify for conventional loans, can only get loans from finance companies that charge much higher interest rates -- anywhere from three to four percentage points higher than conventional loans.

''Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990's by reducing down payment requirements,'' said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. ''Yet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has required who have been relegated to paying significantly higher mortgage rates in the so-called subprime market.''

Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime market went to black borrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.

In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.

''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''

Under Fannie Mae's pilot program, consumers who qualify can secure a mortgage with an interest rate one percentage point above that of a conventional, 30-year fixed rate mortgage of less than $240,000 -- a rate that currently averages about 7.76 per cent. If the borrower makes his or her monthly payments on time for two years, the one percentage point premium is dropped.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, does not lend money directly to consumers. Instead, it purchases loans that banks make on what is called the secondary market. By expanding the type of loans that it will buy, Fannie Mae is hoping to spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings.

Fannie Mae officials stress that the new mortgages will be extended to all potential borrowers who can qualify for a mortgage. But they add that the move is intended in part to increase the number of minority and low income home owners who tend to have worse credit ratings than non-Hispanic whites.
part 2 follows

329 jcw46  Wed, Oct 8, 2008 6:14:02pm

Home ownership has, in fact, exploded among minorities during the economic boom of the 1990's. The number of mortgages extended to Hispanic applicants jumped by 87.2 per cent from 1993 to 1998, according to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies. During that same period the number of African Americans who got mortgages to buy a home increased by 71.9 per cent and the number of Asian Americans by 46.3 per cent.

In contrast, the number of non-Hispanic whites who received loans for homes increased by 31.2 per cent.

Despite these gains, home ownership rates for minorities continue to lag behind non-Hispanic whites, in part because blacks and Hispanics in particular tend to have on average worse credit ratings.

In July, the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed that by the year 2001, 50 percent of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's portfolio be made up of loans to low and moderate-income borrowers. Last year, 44 percent of the loans Fannie Mae purchased were from these groups.

The change in policy also comes at the same time that HUD is investigating allegations of racial discrimination in the automated underwriting systems used by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to determine the credit-worthiness of credit applicants.

One thing I'm having a problem with: I have an intense sense of smell, and it's coming back.

I'm surprised by the number of smells that make me nauseous.

I have been here before and everytime it was the tenants saying they paid last months rent but never did, I know first hand. If you want me to explain more I will.

Just watched some folks get a hell of a shock, here in my development. Three houses owned by one person, rented out. One tenant wasn't paying rent, and - well, it's along the lines of "If you see this person, get out of sight and call the cops! Quick!" - but the other two...one family has straightened it out with the bank; they have proof that they've been paying the "landlord". The second family decided that, given that their credit was shaky to start with, they weren't going to wait, and moved out before the notice was posted.

Scary stuff for them; the daughter told me that her parents were just exhausted by trying to figure out what was right and wrong with the situation; they're immigrants, and their English is adequate, but not great. They just don't want to find themselves in trouble, and they didn't keep the kind of records the other family did.

It's sad stuff.

WARNING "ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE ALERT" WARNING

My '03 pos was built in nj. 2nd day of purchase wouldn't start (something with the anti-theft thingy so couldn't even get it jumped) missed work. next day started up.
Only 30,000 mi warranty? wtf?
scratched windshield
kick panels missing screws
fenders misaligned with hood
truck leans to left. (and not from weight of driver. this was from the start) went to dealer he said "it's not warranty if it's only 1-2 inches"
solid state coil assembly burn out (had bought extended warranty:::: guess what wasn't covered on the warranty. POW 300$ gone.)
wheel alignments won't hold
water leaves cooling system even tho no leaks --- they say it's NORMAL
clutch has always grabbed
engine stalls out at start unless throttle blipped.
engine stutters at 2k rpm

There's more but I'll stop boring you.
Most all the stuff above, Ford says; either "it's normal op" or "it's a common problem" but they won't replace it under warranty.

Ford is going out of business because of this kind of stuff. I am Ford man from a kid (got it from my Dad) and they've made me decide next car will be ANYTHING BUT FORD.

Had to laugh a few months ago at Ford Ad on tv: "Our quality is as good as Toyota's or Honda's." You're sh!t if you have to compare yourself as being AS GOOD AS your competitors.
What junk. hawwwk spittooee.

Bought a '04 Toyota Sienna new in 2003. The only thing that I can say is that it eats front brakes, but other than that, NO problems other than stuff that wears out (tires and brakes) and the battery had to be replaced after 4 years. 40K miles away from the first tune-up. This was my first Toyota (built in Indiana, NOT Japan) and it probably won't be my last. But the way that this one is holding up, it will be a long time before there is a new one in the plans. Oh did I mention that it gets 23 miles on average (mostly city), quite powerful (235HP) and can carry 8 passengers and the dog, plus stuff.

Oh yeah. I am STILL amazed after 10 years how much stuff I missed all those years. Yeah some of it is yucky. I can drive past a gas station with the windows up at 40mph and still smell the gas! Bathrooms/restrooms are a real treat though. :(

Sarah Palin just quoted Plato during Greta's interview in the most comfortable, folksy way. It was in talking about her experience playing basketball.

I swear to God, she is the coolest politician I've ever seen.

WMDs? Actually we have found them, over 500 so far. When I was there in 2006 we had to start carrying our MOPP gear with us out on patrol. Apparently some terrorists unknowingly made an IED out of bomb containing Sarin gas. The guys who were hit by it were all ok, but it gave them a scare. Saddams WMDs are a lot like Russia's nuclear bombs: they know they have them, they're just not sure where they put them.

You are clearly a far-right wingnut anti-Asian racist, and will one day soon be required to stand before The One as He passes judgement on your sorry right-wing ass. Hope! Change!
