Y'know, I don't want to be the one telling John McCain to fight.
He may fight, he may not, but that's not the particular piece of advice I think he needs to hear from anybody.

I'm still waiting for that same fire McCain had at the end of his convention speech. Is he hiding it for some reason? If he isn't going to fight for me why in the heck should I fight for him?

Even when I didn't agree with John McCain on an issue, I always believed that he had good reasons for doing whatever it was, for reasons that he believed were right. Unlike certain other Presidential candidates I could name. Standing up and screaming has never been his style, and in fact he never looks good when he gets angry (remember in 2000 when he lost his temper with Bush during a debate).
I'm going to trust him at least a little longer.

The Democrats injected John McCain with a paralytic toxin before the general election campaign even started. It's called Toxo-Cantankerosis Temper-Tantromium, which renders one unable to move, for fear of being labeled a senile old coot who can't control one's emotions.
It is among the most toxic substances in the modern pharmacopia.

Our station puts Dennis Miller on from 4-6pm in our area, and I always look forward to listening to him on the drive home. Such a smart guy, witty, and from politics to entertainment to anything else, always has spot on comments and interesting guests. If Obama wins at least we never have to hear race as an excuse from the black community anymore. Rice, Powell, Thomas, Obama....I don't think black folks can cry victim anymore, certainly a card that has been played to political advantage in this election. It will almost be cathartic for the USA. The only problem is, it will be 4 years of extreme socialism, much of it hard to reverse...take it from someone from socialist Canada. Yanks, once your citizens get a taste of extreme socialism, it becomes an addiction and almost heresy for a politician to reverse and at times, even discuss. Things are grim, I pray for you!

For several reasons, I think I understand McCain fairly well. He will say or do nothing that would, in his mind, compromise his dignity or sense of personal honor. He will talk straight and work to persuade. He is a passionate man on the issues, but is handicapped as a politician since he will keep it largely internalized. We will need to fight for him and he will not suddenly become someone that he is not out of the expediency of the moment or to satisfy the wishes of his backers.
It's a damn shame since his opponent has no such constraints and will say and do anything imaginable to reach his end.
John McCain is at his center a very good man and, yes, we will have to drag him across the finish line.

I found that a) drinking lots of water, b) eating lite meals at regular meal times, and c) making myself stay awake until 9 pm after I arrived was the only way to get back in sync within 3-4 days.
No naps - going for a walk when I got really sleepy (about 2 pm) helped.

He needs to take a page from Andrew Jackson's book and challenge those that accuse him of having anger management problems to a duel to the death, in order to prove them wrong once and for all.

Archives prove Obama was a New Party member
The New Party was a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left. It was an attempt to regroup the forces on the left in a new strategy to take power, burrowing from within. The party only lasted until 1998, when its strategy of "fusion" failed to withstand a Supreme Court ruling. But dissolving the party didn't stop the membership, including Barack Obama, from continuing to move the Democrats leftward with spectacular success.
/it's official, Lord Ocama is a card carrying socialist
. . .
J. Brown of Politically Drunk on Power has dug up multiple documentary sources (with hyperlinks) proving that Barack Obama was a member of the New Party, despite alleged attempts to cover up his tracks by scrubbing evidence. He or she deserves tremendous praise for doing this detective work.

I REFUSE to conform to that PC expectation.
I readily admit that there are condescending at best and insulting at worst words and phrases that demean blacks. One of the ones heard frequently in old movies is the calling of a black man "boy." That does make me wince--as much as I love the movie Casablanca, Ilsa does refer to Same that way. While it's clear that she does not mean to be insulting, it is indicative of her internalized awareness of her cultural/racial perception.

I have had a hunch that John McCain is going to save the heavy ammo for the last debate. In last nights debate, they had like, what, one minute to make their statement. It would have been next to impossible to call Obama out in one minute, without having to keep using the next minutes to try and tie it all together. I think that McCain will use the last debate to confront Obama about his ties with the murderer/terrorist, Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac, Barney Frank, the 2005 legislation that the Demonrats shot down, etc.
I could be wrong, nothing will surprise me either way, but when speaking, people most remember what they heard last.
A "townhall" setting for that debate, where Brokenjaw left some very important topics to not be talked about, would have been a very tough place for McCain to address Obama's very questionable ties, to everything, and to do it in any effective way.
Hopefully, McCain will come out swinging in the last debate.
If not, oh well, my Faith is not in any man.

"THE QUESTION" for the next debate (hint, hint Bob Schieffer):
Sen Obama if health care is a right shouldn't it be added to the Constitution, and if so, what other rights do you believe Americans do not have that should be added to the constitution by amendment?
Well, uh, Bob, when I am president, we will uh, amend the Constitution to uh, first, add Amendment Number 28 - the Right to Health Care. And there are a few others that we can add at the same time. Those would include, uh, Amendment Number 29 - The Right to have an Abortion, Amendment Number 30 - would abolish Amendment Number 2 (The Right to Bear Arms) and most importantly Tom, I would offer Amendment Number 31 - The Right to Nationalize Industry and confiscate wealth on behalf of the "middle class" in America Bob, because that's only fair.

He was pissed off that McCain had nominated Palin without consulting the allies.

I think it was in the Guardian, dated 10 Sep. His line of reasoning was that since Britain is the US' best ally, and sure to be sucked into any war this crazy woman might start, then the Brits should get to vet any selection of candidates.

I have wondered, however, whether the government could facilitate people's forming their own groups for insurance coverage.

Alright-he doesn't use the ALL-IN-YOUR-FACE, rude, arrogant putz style we have all (?) come to know and love from American Idol.
The Republicans are handicapped in this race. Reading any article in most newspapers and magazines will reflect ~that~ quite easily; as will watching the TV. THAT is why it is up to us to spread the word.
This has nothing to do with my playbook. First off, it's my opinion. Second, my opinion has been formed by listening to a hell of a lot of people who know much more about this game than me.
We who support McCain are simply preaching to the choir. It doesn't matter how much we work the phones or talk to our friends and pass along our opinions to undecided voters, these voters have to be convinced that the have seen or heard something about the candidate that would impress them enough to vote for him.
And as I say, people MUCH smarter than myself are saying that McCain is not running a good campaign. And I agree, and that's agreement is what I am passing on here.

I'm sorry gentleman's, but i saw the debate and McCain didn't crush Obama like it was needed to be.
Now i believe that, unfortunately for America and for the world, that Obama may and can win.
The only good thing of a Obama victory is to see how the moonbatery will deal with Obama. It's going to be funny to see them protesting against the same man they support now.
I hope I'm wrong. Personally, i don't have nothing against Obama or democrats (as an European and Portuguese, American domestic agenda is something i should not concern), but i don't see Obama as a man with the guts to deal with Dinnerjacket and other thugs, or to deal with the problems of this XXI century. After all, it's only going to be a missed chance and a waste of time until America realize that it need another president to fix what it's wrong and get America on track.

I'm not sure how much of this I even believe but here goes;
It may be that McCain is timing his push back so that He can shape the news and the responses so that certain things are fresh in the memory just before 11/4/08.
Think about it, I remember how a lot of scandalous stuff has come out and you don't hear anything about it 2 weeks later. (unless of course it's a rep doing it) I think McCain knows this and has made a strategic decision to keep from lobbing all the grenades at once and let bho/the media have time to clean everything up and raise some other issue just before the vote. They're now having to talk about ayers whether they want to or not. Sure they're trying to fuzz things but it's out there, front page, top story. I am also sure the timing of this bailout is really making him mad. Paulson's a democrat and help create the situation. Why the urgent need for action just before the Vote? I think they knew this stuff long before this and are using this to stir the sh!t up to hurt McCain. Bush does not like John. (for reasons some of us can relate to) Would he try to sabotage him? Sure. Why not? When has bush cared about fiscal responsibility. Neither Him or His pops are any kind of fis cons. Could be it was out of bush's control. Paulson might have gone over his head or around and made things even worse if Bush didn't go along. So watch the timing. Particularly the final 5 days. That's what voters are going to take into the voting booth.

How much do you want to bet, since terming it a "right" last night, the government will now have to regulate everybody has the same rights?
In that, my inference would be nobody can have more rights, therefore, a common denominator will have to be established, hence, to ensure everyone has the same rights.

I don't see it that way. What helps Obama is if the right wing doesn't have a LEADER who is fighting for the position. I don't care if McCain said the right things tonight at some speech or on Fox news. Campaign stops and appearing on Fox news is simply preaching to the choir.

He was pissed off that McCain had nominated Palin without consulting the allies.
Yes- We had dinner over the weekend with a couple from Yorkshire with whom we reached a Mexican Standoff over the election. We were trying to explain how Obama is a socialist and people are not getting the whole story here because the media is rooting for him, and they were both like "oh, I think you are mistaken and being mislead- if this was true, surely the media would be reporting on it." He just could not digest how on earth it was that we didn't see Obama as a force for good. I tried to get the point across that as Americans, we don't really give a rat's ass what other countries think of us, and you tell us we lost a lot of good will with Bush, but I kept telling him that if we had it in the first place it wasn't exactly obvious. It got a bit ugly unfortunately.
What was most remarkable actually was that this wanker even felt like he was entitled to an opinion about this election in the first place since he is not a citizen of this country!

To them wealth is never generated. It is just passed around from one rich guy to the other like some big game -- all they want is a fair share of it.
The American Dream of the little guys pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps doesn't exist -- it is a lie.

Cool. I say, he is running almost as good a campaign as he can run under the constraints we are given. Yes, I wish he was more aggressive, but that is the style I have acquired in my career, he has not-given he is a negotiator in the Senate.
I'm not judging his campaign based on silly assed debates that are created and run by the opposition party. Trying to get out all the talking points that are needed in those constraints is like trying to do the same thing in an on-line chat room. The limitations are too constraining to adequately do so. Both of these debates have been time wasters for both candidates.

Some of them are too easily misconstrued by those who do not know the English language well although they've spoken it all their lives—those words and phrases I avoid. Abusing masculine/feminine/plural nouns to avoid offense I rarely do. English almost always picks one gender of something and makes it the plural of the whole group unless the speaker is specifically specifying a gender:
Lion, lioness, lions
Gander, goose, geese
Bull, cow, cows
But for some reason people don't seem to know that when someone calls a group of men and women "men" and think it is patriarchal. Is it matriarchal when ganders get called geese? PC is destroying the language. I should brush up on my Latin—at least it no longer changes.

No it doesn't. If I was going to have a "come to Jesus" moment, than I would surely want to read the book that tells me what he thinks and what he did.
McCain is that book. And I would hope the hell that an American who is interested in his responsibilities as a voter would not vote for someone just because someone was "proselytizing."
You can tell me all about a candidate but at some point, I'm sure a hell going to go right to the source and see if what I had been told has any truth behind it.

Missouri officials suspect fake voter registration
Officials in Missouri, a hard-fought jewel in the presidential race, are sifting through possibly hundreds of questionable or duplicate voter-registration forms submitted by an advocacy group that has been accused of election fraud in other states.
Charlene Davis, co-director of the election board in Jackson County, where Kansas City is, said the fraudulent registration forms came from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. She said they were bogging down work Wednesday, the final day Missourians could register to vote.
The nonpartisan group works to recruit low-income voters, who tend to lean Democratic.
I hear Obama was a community organizer.

Sen Obama if health care is a right shouldn't it be added to the Constitution, and if so, what other rights do you believe Americans do not have that should be added to the constitution by amendment?
The whole concept of healthcare being a right is so profoundly immoral. The 'Right' to force people to work for, and provide a service on your behalf under threat of legal action, imprisonment, or force by Federal or State Governments for those that don't comply with such a mandated contract was abolished on December 6th, 1865 with the ratification of the 13th Amendment.

Think about this. You get health care from the government. It still takes money no matter how crappy it is. And here you are you bible totin', gun clinging, bitter person...
And by the way guns are dangerous. Could cause bodily harm if it goes off accidentally. That really drains the system. It makes sense if were are trying to save the taxpayer money from unnecessary gunshot wounds, we, your government health care provider, should take them away from you. You know -- for your own good.
And way too many of you Southerners like your BBQ. But cooking fatty meat over partially uncombusted hydrocarbons is dangerous...

I guess I'd have to go back to the debate tape to get it right. Was it "health insurance" or "health care" that Obama said should be a "right?"Either way - when you start spouting off about new "rights" the point is When does he stop?
Amendment Number 28 - the Right to Health Care.
Amendment Number 29 - The Right to have an Abortion
Amendment Number 30 - Abolishes Amendment Number 2 (The Right to Bear Arms)
Amendment Number 31 - The Right to Nationalize Industry and confiscate wealth on behalf of the "middle class"

Assuming you're serious, you do realize that you would violate the US Constitution by requiring otherwise eligible voters to answer questions about it, don't you?
I did not suggest the above criteria. I decried the fact that there are thousands of voters who cast their precious ballot because they like a candidate's hair ,or don't like the way he smirks or they have absolutely no grasp of the issues. I have actually been asked, "Why would you not vote for a black man?" by some younger voters, suggesting that I was racist. I suggested they were fools if they were voting for Obama merely because of the novelty of him being black.
I have said it several times--the founders of this Republic never meant for all its citizens to have the vote. They knew the dangers of mob rule and worked very hard to avoid it. The rationale was that ordinary folks were too busy providing for their families to adequately familiarize themselves with the issues. People of means--the landed classes-had the education, time and temperment to weigh the issues and vote. The whole point was to keep the mob from voting itself bread and circuses.

Last night was McCains chance to show those interested voters who and what he was, he failed. And don't blame it on the constraints of the debate. It was the TWO CANDIDATES who agreed on the format, not Tom Brokaw.

Roll rate is a performance indicator. It is a quantifiable. Ergo you don't need to fly one - you get a test pilot to produce the tables.
(Actually, you get a flight test engineer to tell the pilots what to do - a stick monkey)!
So unless somebody has personally flown any and all aircraft, he cannot comment on known performance?

Everything we do in medicine which is billed out, comes in the form of codes.
Diagnostic, and procedural. Other types of codes exist, but I digress.
With more of the information being digital, this can become reality.
Information will be culled, used as support for policy directed by health and human services, therefore minimizing voter's influence, and granting more control to the bureaucracy.

Flying planes is fun. But fighting one is different.
F5s were nice, but when they got picked off by F16s and F15s because they had radar and missiles and we didn't, the fun stops real fast.

"Ordower said Wednesday that ACORN registered about 53,500 people in Missouri this year. He believes his group is being targeted because some politicians don't want that many low-income people having a voice.
"It's par for the course," he said. "When you're doing more registrations than anyone else in the country, some don't want low-income people being empowered to vote. But in my opinion, if McCain wants to tie up this election, then he is going to have to convince the Independents and the possible swing voters. And not one of use can do that job for him. We can be behind him to lend the support and encouragment, but McCain has to start acting like a leader.

I don't see it that way. What helps Obama is if the right wing doesn't have a LEADER who is fighting for the position. I don't care if McCain said the right things tonight at some speech or on Fox news. Campaign stops and appearing on Fox news is simply preaching to the choir.
Last night he had the oppertunity to talk to a lot of people ON BOTH SIDE and independents. That's when he should have been saying the right things.
Look, the MSM is not going away right now. McCain has to work in the medium that is offered to him. Whining about how Brokaw did this or that doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
McCain wasted a chance to get his message out last night. On a national level, he only has one more chance. That's not really good odds.

Not to worry - I suspect nearly everyone at this site will support McCain. Moreover, while there are a few out there who are getting wobbly (understandably) - most understand that there is hope. Here is why: 2 things, those being polled are giving in many cases white guilt answers. Second, there may be more PUMA(s) than you know. But third, McCain and mostly Palin are far from done yet. It has been said repeatedly here and other places but the last two races - especially, Gore/Bush were not close at this time in Gore's favor. Zogby has at 2 %.
That is a good sign in spite of all the many many bad things that have happened. Ignore the press - they are invested in defeat ofMcCain the way they were invested in defeat in Iraq.

Gotcha - read it. Yes, I would loved to have seen John McCain come out and slam Obama last night, but I do not think the format was conducive to it. Not with those asinine questions posed by the "town hall folks", who were pre-screened for moonbattery.
He's going to have to come out strong on the stump, and in interviews. And when the last debate rolls around, he should have enough clear talking points that maybe he can lob some good hits over Obama's bow.
I am an optimist, and I do not believe in giving up until it is clear - on Nov 4 late evening - that we have lost. And I also know that there are many who waver easily in their support. I think it's important to encourage the "troops" to not give up, to keep fighting! If you cut the top 2% of wealthiest members from the rolls of both parties, and adjust for their numbers, the Republican party is the one comprised of the poor.
The Democrat 'middle class' is largely upper middle class, country club types. Anyone who has been to college should be plainly aware of this without any statistics. Young people aren't liberals. College kids are. College kids aren't brainwashed by their professors into being liberals either (at least not entirely). The campuses are full of Trustafarians whose parents are Dems.
There is no Conservative voice on campus, because unless they got a scolarship, worked their ass off doing double time with a job and school, or are one of the relatively rare offspring of upper middle class republicans that paid their way, Conservatives don't go to college because they can't afford it.
Of course all of these rich kids sit around decrying how Republicans are keeping the poor down.

How's it looking in CO?
He's been running a dead tie (as of the weekend). I haven't seen the local polls today, since the debate. I had some programming work come in and I have been researching some stuff for Kaiser. Part of what I do for a living is piece meal programming for a few clients.
I'll check around my links, let you know on some thread.

Obama's campaign has been endorsed by ACORN's political action committee and their sister corporation received nearly $1 million from Obama's campaign which they originally misrepresented on their FEC report
I read through some of the comments, and got to a link to a site named We Will Not Be Silenced. It's the Democrat-against-Acorn version of PUMA.
Some video previews on the same site indicate the people are not too happy.

After watching the last debate, with attacks and counter attacks virtually identical to those of the first debate, I don't see it as likely that either Obama or McCain are capable of anything new that will change the way people are already planning to vote.

Not PC of course, but the original (Art 1. Sec. 4) says the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives shall be prescribed by the legislature thereof. Doesn't seem to rule out a qualification test to me!
Well it appears the "legislatures thereof" have in fact ruled out a qualification test. Rightly so, I believe. In this day and age it just seems a little creepy.
Hell, I don't know the answer to "What is the last line of the Declaration of Independence?" But I bet I could find the answer inside of 2 minutes (as most any sixth-grader with a computer and internet could).

I've come down with an intense case of apathy.
You have been on a long trip to the other side of the planet. It used to be that such trips took long enough that you would not suffer from the ill affects of being out of sync with the rising and the setting of the sun. Our circadian rhythm does not like to be abused.
In the thousand year perspective, our troubles of today can look small and insignificant, but in truth, the results of the small things that we do or do not do today will have an effect that can be felt a thousand years from now.
Take a quite moment to clear your head.
It may take a day or two or even seven to get back in sync with the rising and the setting of the sun.
We will be here.
Your shield and sword will be ready for you to take them up and join us in the battle.
This election may well be our battle of Thermopylae. It would kind of suck to have sat it out on the sidelines, would it not?

Why hasn't the McCain campaign lobbied in the press every day for Obama to release his medical records? Why aren't they screaming this to the rooftops?
His mother died of cancer in her 40's. He admits he was a lifelong smoker until recently (and admitted just recently to sneaking smokes on the campagin trail). McCain's mother is 93 (or so) and still going strong! McCain could easily live to see Sarah Palin finish out her 2nd term in the White House. Obama's chances of living into his 70's or 80's are lowered by his genetic "minuses".

Great post!
We live in "interesting times" because news and our bodies can get around the Earth quickly. It's easy to get jaded and to get tired of all the stupid hoohah.
However, this election will probably be a significant one--for the future of all humanity. If the U.S. becomes a socialist hellhole--like Russia, China, Venezuela, Zimbabwe--what will the world look like in the Year 3000? Maybe it will be under the thumb of a Chavez-type nutcase or of Islam.
Let's all work hard to prevent that horrible future.

re: #341 dak
Roll rate is a performance indicator. It is a quantifiable. Ergo you don't need to fly one - you get a test pilot to produce the tables.
(Actually, you get a flight test engineer to tell the pilots what to do - a stick monkey)!
So unless somebody has personally flown any and all aircraft, he cannot comment on known performance?
see, this is what's bothering me about your first statement of opinion; it was a non sequitur. what was the point?
this part of a comment by jwb7605 was the start:
"..... We can launch him, refuel him, and recover him.
He's flying the single-seater A-4, and Palin has assumed fighter cover"
(McCain did fly A-4s in Viet Nam on strike missions)
You respond with this at 293
"ya, the problem is that the A4 was a pathetic little scooter. It could roll like a SOB, but that's about all. No offence to any Navy or Marine that flew it or maintained it."
sounds like a negative comment about::? McCain? The A4? What was the point? This lead me to think wonder who were you to pass that judgment about the A4 (or him for that manner)?
So I asked: Have YOU ever flown one?
Now when I asked merely whether YOU had flown one you get all defensive. I never said you cannot comment on known (in your opinion)performance. I asked what your experience was. "have you flown one?" that's all. what I get back is snarky defensiveness that:
1. never answers my question directly
2. questions my right to my question
I wish I had the room to insert some points that anyone can find about
The A-4 Skyhawk here. If you read some of this, as I have, you'll realize why DAK's comment stirred me up a bit. Aviators are a group of people who combine some physical and mental talents that are very rare. Particularly so are Carrier pilots. Possibly the most dangerous job in the world is a night landing on an Aircraft Carrier. Anyone who has qualified for night landings is very special indeed (john Mccain for one) and their opinion, particularly about aircraft, should be given serious consideration.
At the Wiki site you will read that the A-4 was a little better than what DAK's off-hand comment might lead you to believe. Here's one quote: "Skyhawks were well loved by their crews for being tough and agile". (Navy crew is not shy about expressing contempt for inadequate equipment. At sea, what does not work properly can/will get you killed.)
Here is another link where aviators/aviation techs express their
opinion about the A-4
There just seemed to be an undercurrent of disrespect and offhand disregard of facts in Dak's comment.

For the vast group of voters, perception is reality, they tune out a good percentage of the dialog, and can't decipher the rest. And in politics, perception is reality.
Watching the debate the impression is that McCain is uncertain, and the weaker of the two.
He has some great qualities, but public speaking isn't one of them. He's tone deaf to audience reaction, so unable to build on the moments when they actually get the point and are ready to rally. McCain shuts them out and focuses on getting out his message, in his typical cadence, the only one he seems to know. Start low and slow, ramp up a tiny bit, them end slow and low. A terrible style that doesn't grab the audience. Way to tightly wrapped.
Unfortunately he's pitted against an opponent who makes up for his lack of substance by spouting meaningless, but eloquent and exciting, b.s.
While his adversary is packing a Damascus steel 10 inch chef's blade, McCain is dragging a plastic picnic spork into The Iron Chef kitchen.
And I'm not confident the judges can see beyond the flashy knife work and discern the difference between a solid meal and moldy, poisonous, government cheese.

In order for McCain to completely decimate BHO and his support lifeline, he needs to keep BHO on the defensive - constantly, and put him off his guard. Grill him. He needs to make BHO dissolve into a stumbling muddle of "uhs". Make him panic.
First of all, he shouldn't be afraid to tell the truth. Call him a socialist radical with a racist, anti-America agenda.
Then he needs to continually hound him on:
1. his records: legitimate birth certificate, Columbia and Harvard transcripts, medical reports, bar exam (no one has picked up on this yet)
2. his passport: We know he has/had an Indonesian passport, which is how he got into Islamist Pakistan in 1981 with his Pakistani roommate. He would never have gotten in with an American passport.
3. his associations in connection with Ayers and anti-American/anti-Israel terror supporters: Edward Said (thankfully dead), Rashid Khalili, Khalid al Mansour (and the Saudi connection), Ali Abunimah
4. his radical left and Black Liberation associations, NOI (Farrakhan)
5. his illegal campaign contributions, ad nauseam
6. his interference in international politics: his meddling in the Kenyan political machinations of his cousin, terror thug, Raila Odinga, his treasonous meddling in Iraqi discussions of troop withdrawls till he's president
7. point to his socialist "community organizer" activities, associations with Rezko/Auchi, ACORN, Chicago political machine, fraud, corruption, ad nauseam
McCain must keep in mind that time is running out to save America from this hideously evil man who will remove the flag from the White House and invite the worst subversives to trash the building, the Constitution and our rights and our precious, fought-for heritage. McCain fought and suffered so bravely for our country. Now, this American hero must fight bravely to save the country from impending disaster.
