A flea and a fly flew up in a flue.
Said the flea, "Let us fly!"
Said the fly, " Let us flee!"
So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

Yikes! I never in a million years thought I'd be eagerly reading conservative blogs. I'm not an official PUMA but I am one of those that has seen the mask fall off of the "progressive" face and what I see is disgusting. I'm one of the many disillusioned that has fallen into depression and completely confused about what I thought I knew...good guys/bad guys. And like many of us "racist" Obama doubters, I can no longer talk to my friends. The dishonesty and hatred that comes out of their mouths (and those fricken' email chains!) is damaging our relationships. One friend won't even speak to me anymore. I'm still wandering the desert but I feel better over here than over there for the moment. I despise what Obama and his mob represent and the way that they have behaved. I am ashamed of my former party. I can't imagine that anything good could come out of his possible presidency. But then I can't believe he's gotten this far....
Thanks for letting me join in.

Here in Lexington, we've had a real problem this summer. I think that is what started my Meggie on her downward spiral. Vet then had me give her Capstar pills to kill fleas within an hour. This resulted in bad things happening to my little furgirl resulting in congestive heart failure and her passing.
Vet said fleas were becoming immune to Frontline.

Two Texans were on a trip to New York and stopped in a delicatessen for lunch. One of them noticed a woman at the next table, blue in the face and clearly choking.
The two Texans leapt from their seats. One grabbed the woman and hauled her up onto the table on all fours. The other pulled up her skirt, pulled down her panties, and licked each of the cheeks of her tush.
Of course, the woman was so shocked that she let out a scream, sending the plug of food that had been choking her flying across the room.
As she let out a torrent of swear words, one Texan turned to the other and said, "That Hind-Lick maneuver sure works swell, don't it?"

Here here, Sharmuta. The photos of lefty dips with signs to the effect of "I vote with my brain, not my vagina" make it all too clear that the last thing these commies in chiffon want is a free-thinking, independent, strong female candidate. In contrast, conservatives have welcomed her with open arms: conservative women see her as a role model, and conservative men don't mind...um...seeing her :)

Oh, yes indeed. It's a gradual process, though. The Progressives seem to be very good at convincing the softer-skulled that people like Clarence Thomas, George W. Bush and Sarah Palin are ignorant and stupid -- in the face of the plain fact that each of these people have out-achieved all but the tiniest handful of their fellow Americans.
On a related front, it was flabbergasting to see how self-proclaimed feminists rallied around a serial sexual harrasser and accused rapist, simply because they felt he offered some political clout for their ideology. How he avoided answering Juanita Broaderrick's charges is beyond me.

There is a hatred for America that now runs though it's veins. White leftists, Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, many Asiatics, EuroTrash, all believe they are here to pick through the carcass of this country. They have been taught from birth that white Americans are the quintessential evil of the world, not only in our schools, but abroad. Many of these individuals are filled with hatred for America. One merely has to think of those around Obama who have prospered by preaching such nonsense. I think these people are close to 50% of the electorate, even if they profess otherwise.

LA, CA......
SFV to be maddeningly inexact.....
have you tried spraying your yard and carpets etc with SEVIN? it's available last i looked at home & garden stores. spray once a week, at directed strength, for 3 weeks at the beginning of the season, since the cycle for fleas is ~14 days IIRC (this is more than they advise, so use at own risk) then every two weeks until the season is over. once it dries it's reasonably safe, and it definitely kills the little shits. w*rks outdoors, and on furniture where the little darlings sleep, bedding etc.
another trick is to vacuum thoroughly, and then immediately remove the bag, spray the entry opening, then bag it into the trash. this evacuates many eggs larve, etc....

Yes, I have noticed and it is what our Vet recommends even knowing that our dog is allergic to flee bites. When we first put it on it seems to do okay for week or two and then she starts itching like crazy. We have to take her in and get a shot to help and give her benadryl to help out in between.

They're a sort of loose confederation of different groups with similar attitudes. It all got started when Howard Dean and the other Democrat Party grandees began publicly calling on Hillary Clinton to drop out of the primary race in the name of "party unity." Some guy (you can look up his name) started the "Party Unity, My Ass!" movement, and it quickly coalesced the anger of the mostly female supporters of Hillary into something like a political movement. But Hillary doesn't control it (though I am sure she wishes she did.)

Truthfully, I have little problem with it. For a "law" to have teeth, all three branches of government must agree to it: the legislators to enact it, the executives to enforce it, and the judiciary to punish breaches of it. What do you think would become of a law criminalizing driving any vehicle with a Mitsubishi engine?
That doesn't mean I disagree with you on the whole Chicago corruption aspect; I'm with you all the way on that. But why punish the tenants for their landlords' malfeasance? Must prospective tenants demand their landlords' books before signing a lease? If you were a landlord, would you show a prospective tenant your books, or would you laugh at him for making such a demand?

Man, now that's entirely uncalled-for. Nice to see that gun control is working so well for the U.K. /
Speaking of T-shirts, or as the case may be, hoodies: I saw a teenager today wearing a hoodie with a huge "88" on the back. At least, at first glance, it looked like "88". In faux Gothic font, of course. Now, I know that "88" is code for "heil (s)hitler" amongst the neo-nazis. On closer inspection, I saw that "88" was in fact "89", with the tail of the numeral 9 almost-but-not-quite joining the upper loop to form an "8".
On the front of the hoodie, was the word "Frankshivah" or something approaching that. The gothic font was so stylized it was hard to tell. Was I looking at a real-live neo-nazi, or some kind of poseur or partisan of some band that mocks real neo-nazis?

In the best tradition of Bill Clinton's famous declaration that the answer to the question of whether or not he was having an affair with Monica depended on "what the definition of 'is' is," Barack Obama was clearly splitting hairs and concealing the truth when he said that William Ayers was "just a guy who lives in my neighborhood."
The records of the administration of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), released last week by the University of Illinois, show that the Ayers-Obama connection was an intimate collaboration and that it led to the only executive or administrative experience in Obama's life.
After Annenberg's foundation offered several hundred million dollars to American public schools in the mid-'90s, Ayers applied for $50 million for Chicago. The purpose of his application was to secure funds to "raise political consciousness" in Chicago's public schools. After he won the grant, Ayers's group chose Obama to distribute the money. Between 1995 and 1999, Obama distributed the $50 million and raised another $60 million from other civic groups to augment it. In doing so, he was following Ayers's admonition to grant the funds to "external" organizations, like American Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to pair with schools and conduct programs to radicalize the students and politicize them.
Reading, math and science achievement tests counted for little in the CAC grants, but the school's success in preaching a radical political agenda determined how much money they got.
Obama should have run screaming at the sight of Ayers and his wife, Bernadette Dohrn. Ayers has admitted bombing the U.S. Capitol building and the Pentagon, and his wife was sent to prison for failing to cooperate in solving the robbery of a Brink's armored car in which two police officers were killed. Far from remorse, Ayers told The New York Times in September 2001 that he "wished he could have done more."
Ayers only avoided conviction when the evidence against him turned out to be contained in illegally obtained wiretaps by the FBI. He was, in fact, guilty as sin.
That Obama should ally himself with Ayers is almost beyond understanding. The former terrorist had not repented of his views and the education grants he got were expressly designed to further them.
So let's sum up Obama's Chicago connections. His chief financial supporter was Tony Rezko, now on his way to federal prison. His spiritual adviser and mentor was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, of "God damn America" fame. And the guy who got him his only administrative job and put him in charge of doling out $50 million is William Ayers, a terrorist who was a domestic Osama bin Laden in his youth.
Even apart from the details of the Obama/Ayers connection, two key points emerge:
a) Obama lied and misled the American people in his description of his relationship with Ayers as casual and arm's-length; and
b) Obama was consciously guided by Ayers's radical philosophy, rooted in the teachings of leftist Saul Alinksy, in his distribution of CAC grant funds.
Since Obama is asking us to let him direct education spending by the federal government and wants us to trust his veracity, these are difficulties he will have to explain in order to get the votes to win.
We will want to know what kind of president he would make. The fact that, within the past 10 years, he participated in a radical program of political education conceptualized by an admitted radical terrorist offers no reassurance.
Why did Obama put up with Ayers? Because he got a big job and $50 million of patronage to distribute to his friends and supporters in Chicago. Why did he hang out with Rev. Wright? Because he was new in town, having grown up in Hawaii and Indonesia and having been educated at Columbia and Harvard, he needed all the local introductions he could get to jump-start his political career. Why was he close to Rezko? Because he funded Obama's campaigns and helped him buy a house for $300,000 less than its value.

Organizers are some scary dudes:
This is a very long read so search the page for Obama, Acorn, Alinsky, et al. This is a very informative piece which was intended as an instructional item. This was not written by an outsider. Search for Obama on the page. Why would they even mention him in 1996.
Just the Usual Suspects: All Socialist groups coming to get your piece of the pie.
Also search for CRA on the page - it tells how they forced lending institutions to change their underwriting criteria.
If this little evaluation does not scare the crap out of people out of voting for Obama ........ then they are already gone .......

I'm really, really sorry that poor man was shot (with what sounds an awful lot like a b-b gun).

OK, if the bank lends money with the house as collateral, then the owner has no responsible. to pay as long as the renter has good faith. See how many loans will now be available in Chicago.
Or:
The landlord loses the property in a foreclosure, the bank takes over the lease. The tenants pay their rent to the bank. When the bank finds a buyer to recover their loss in the bad mortgage, the tenants start paying rent to the new owners instead.
The original owner loses both income and credit rating. The bank makes as much recovery as they can, which may or may not match what they could do with no tenants in the property (the only wrinkle I see).
No eviction is necessary against tenants who have kept up their end of the deal.

We'd always used Advantage, just for fleas (no tick meds, etc.) but decided to try Frontline once on our (then) year old outside dog. It made him froth at the mouth. Vet said he was OK but we of course went back to Advantage and it worked fine, about once a year, if the fleas got too bad we'd give the indoor dog (the one who recently passed on) a Capstar but for the most part, Advantage worked just fine.

Hi tommoon - from your link "Dart says he's concerned that many of the people being evicted are renters who were unaware that their landlords have been failing to pay their mortgages. He says his deputies have no way of knowing whether they're removing someone who has defaulted on a loan or someone who has been faithfully paying rent."
Smooth - guess what Sheriff Dart - a forclosure order is an order of a COURT. And if the Landlord in fact hasn't been paying then the COURT determines he is no longer allowed to own the building and if he doesn't own the building, the tenants have NO LAWFUL RIGHT to remain in the building because they didn't rent their apartments from whomever the new owner (buyer at foreclosure sale) is.
What a yutz.

Barney Frank is a POS.
Frank: GOP Criticism of Housing Crisis is Aimed at Poor Blacks
BOSTON — Rep. Barney Frank said Monday that Republican criticism of Democrats over the nation's housing crisis is a veiled attack on the poor that's racially motivated.
The Massachusetts Democrat, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said the GOP is appealing to its base by blaming the country's mortgage foreclosure problem on efforts to expand affordable housing through the Community Reinvestment Act.
They get to take things out on poor people," Frank said at a mortgage foreclosure symposium in Boston. "Let's be honest: The fact that some of the poor people are black doesn't hurt them either, from their standpoint. This is an effort, I believe, to appeal to a kind of anger in people."
Frank also dismissed charges the Democrats failed on their own or blocked Republican efforts to rein in the mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The federal government recently took control of both entities.
House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio called Frank's remarks "a lame, desperate attempt to divert Americans' attention away from the Democratic party's obstruction of reforms that would have reined in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and helped our nation avoid this economic crisis."
"Congressman Frank should retract his ridiculous statements and start taking responsibility for the role he and other top Democrats played in putting Main Street Americans in this mess," Boehner said.

The sheriff will not serve the foreclosure notice to evict. The tenants stay and pay rent to the old owner. The bank loses all. The warrants has to be served for the bank to take into custody the property.

Hey tommoon - I really gotta get some sleep here - big appointment with radiation oncologist tomorrow, but I'm telling you that if the Sheriff doesn't serve the foreclosure notice then the sheriff is in contempt of court because the Warrant of eviction follows or is concurrent with the Warrant of Forclosure and a failure to serve those warrants is in fact a violation of court rules, orders and proceedings - and btw, in NYC, if the Sheriff is too busy, courts allow the banks to have their OWN process servers serve the orders of Foreclosure and Eviction.

a forclosure order is an order of a COURT.
The court also needs the cooperation of both the legislative and the executive. See my comment #75 above. The legislators may pass a law, and the judges may be ready to convict, but if the executives refuse to haul anyone before the court for violating that law, then said "law" is powerless.

Correct. The tenants in such a case are legally called "tenants at will" and may be evicted by court action if the owner wishes. The judge typically orders that the tenants be served written notice and given reasonable time to vacate, such as 30 days.

It's not clear to me if it's a BB gun, or something that shoots a larger steel ball. It evidently propels the balls with enough force to draw blood, if the story can be taken at face value. I can readily believe the poor fellow could have been blinded had one of the pellets pierced his eye.
I agree the story exaggerates the deadliness of the weapon, and may also draw the false conclusion that the perpetrator was set off by the Obama shirt, when it may have simply been a case of naked racism that needed no trigger. Also rather telling is the evident blind faith that the victim of this crime has in Obama.
As an aside, we recently had a gang-related shooting in Calgary, Alberta. A drive-by shooting, IIRC, involving handguns (heavily restricted in Canada). An innocent passer-by, a young man recently immigrated from Brazil was shot shot in the head and permanently blinded by his injuries. There is a hatred for America that now runs though it's veins. White leftists, Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, many Asiatics, EuroTrash.
Pat, that isn't particularly constructive commentary there. I know more than a handful patriotic 'blacks and mexicans' that certainly don't hate America, even if the former are voting for Obama because of identity politics. Many latinos are socially conservative and are well aware that the problems in South and Central America have roots in Marxism and chronically corrupt leadership.
The Asian population of America is largely conservative. I recently just saw a Filipino colleague of mine retire whom had immigrated to our country as a young man and then served 26 years in the US Navy, including in wars in South East Asia.
From my anecdotal experience, the majority of Europeans here are Eastern Europeans, and are also far from being America haters. On the contrary they are probably some of our most staunchly patriotic immigrants.
I even went to college with some at least nominally Muslim Lebanese boys that I couldn't honestly describe as being haters of our country. Ones that were aghast at their country being torn to pieces by Islamists, and were glad to have a refuge from regressive barbarians.
I understand what you were saying, but the way that it was phrased was pretty over the top, and can definitely come across in a way that I doubt that you actually intended.

Herb and Marion Sandler were co-chief executives for Golden West Financial Corp., and were once hailed as "voices of reason" as they guided their company and it's subsidiary, World Savings, safely through the 1980's and 1990's, when thousands of other savings-and-loan failed.
In October 2006, after 40 years of running what was once referred to as an "endearing mom-and-pop shop" they sold their business to Wachovia in a $24.3 billion deal as USA Today reports.
This past weekend, Saturday Night Live (SNL), produced a skit dealing with the massive bailout for Wall Street that has just been passed by the U.S. Senate, House and signed by President Bush.
In the skit, SNL cast skewered Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Congressman Barney Frank who is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee for opposing reforms regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and toward the end of the skit cast members played Herbert and Marion Sandler, with the screen shot showing the caption "people who should be shot" as well as George Soros, with the caption "Multi-Billionaire hedge Fund Manager, Owner Democratic Party."
Herb Sander spoke to the Associate Press the morning after seeing the SNL skit which derided them as "predatory lenders" who had duped borrowers and Wachovia, After seeing the skit replayed on the Internet, Sandler was described as "seething," about how he and his wife were portrayed.
More information about the Sandlers can be found at New York Times Magazine from a March 9, 2008 piece called "Self-Made Philanthropists."
Although many SNL skits are available at Hulu and other video uploading sites, this particular skit was uploaded, was shown and linked to, but has mysteriously disappeared and now when someone clicks the link they are greeted with a message saying "Unfortunately, this video is no longer available but here are other related videos to watch," and underneath are clips from other SNL skits.
The video was captured and uploaded by Pat Dollard, who declares "yank this b*tches".
Conservative author, blogger and syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin has painstakingly transcribed the whole skit with screenshots at her blog MichelleMalkin.com.
Others interested in why this specific video was yanked off of every video upload site it was put on are claiming that NBC is also deleting questions about the bailout skit from their messageboards.

In every jurisdiction with which I'm familiar, the Sheriff falls under the Judiciary Branch of Government, NOT the Executive. City Sheriffs (or Marshalls, name depends on the jurisdiction) serve the COURTS.
So then, sheriffs are Officers of the Courts, not Officers of the Law? Would that make them colleagues of trial lawyers?
And, the last I knew, sheriffs served the citizens who elected them.

Smoke and Pyro
White Smoke---Covering/Screening only
Yellow Smoke---Designated target (Fire at will)
Purple Smoke---All after is sarcastic
Green Smoke---Kook Identified
White Star Cluster---All Clear
Yellow Star Cluster---Cease-fire
Red Star Cluster---Danger
Some Examples:
Red says something smart and instead of "ducking," pops white smoke and disengages.
Anyone needing assistance might designate a post (or a thread in the subject line) with yellow smoke.
Prior to typing a sarcastic remark, "pop purple smoke." When removing tounge from cheek, send up a White Star Cluster.
Green star clusters would probably be most effective for the person on SGT Casey's duty roster with an addition to a subject line.
Yellow star clusters used to designate a friendly under fire or to initiate compromise under a misunderstanding.
Red star cluster, any kind of warning.

Canadians are so tough they don't need guns:
B.C. man says he won deadly fight with black bear
Updated: Wed Oct. 08 2008 16:41:32
Darcy Wintonyk, ctvbc.ca
A B.C. man found himself in a deadly fight with a black bear, and had to kill the large animal to escape with his life. The attack left him with deep gashes in his head that required more than 60 stitches.
Jim West, 45, was walking with his two dogs near 70 Mile House -- about halfway between Kamloops and Williams Lake -- when his dogs reacted to a noise in the woods.
"All of a sudden I heard a 'whoof' on my right and I looked over and there was a bear six feet away from me," he said.
West knew right away he was in serious danger.
"Just one look at that bear and I knew she meant business," he said.
"The bear rose at the same time as my foot went up. I'm not sure if it was her teeth or her claws that caught me in my upper lip."
That's when West was knocked down. He rolled onto his stomach and clasped his hands around his neck to protect his throat.
"She then tore a chunk out my scalp, bit me in my left arm and ribs," West said.
The Caribou man credits his dogs for drawing the bear away, giving him a chance to defend himself. When he turned to stand up, the bear -- apparently a mother -- swatted him in the right arm and bit him again. Knowing he would likely die unless he put up a fight, the bleeding West summoned the strength to get on his feet and picked up a stick about as thick as his arm.
"The bear was running at me full tilt," he said. "I swung the stick and hit her right between the ears and it stopped her dead in her tracks.
West says the initial hit stunned the bear, but he realized the animal would attack again if he didn't keep up the fight.
"I knew if I went down a third time I wouldn't get up again," said West.
"I pretended I was driving spikes with a sledgehammer, and I didn't stop until that bear went down and I saw blood coming out her nose."
After West crushed the bear's skull, he dropped the stick and wrapped his shirt around his head to stop the profuse bleeding. He then walked to a nearby lodge, where he was taken to hospital for dozens of stitches.
Matter of survival
Conservation officers found the bear three hours later, and confirmed the bear's injuries. West says fighting back was a matter of survival.
"Most people would be so scared that they would just stay on the ground and let the bear chew on them, but I have a bit of a temper that I try to stay on top of," he said.
But also West blames himself for the attack, saying the bear was just following its instincts when it attacked.
"With my experience in the woods, I know bears are out foraging in the fall, but with the wind in the face, I know he couldn't smell me or hear me," he said. "I know that people should be prepared when they go out."

I found this interesting article, how come this hasn't been raised before now?
"Portrait of two ladies and their treatment by the Gray Lady"
Sure, many conservatives say The New York Times is biased against Sarah Palin, but let's remember the Times editorial published right after John McCain made his choice: "So much for the snickers about Boring McCain. His choice of Sarah Palin enlivens a leaden campaign season. It energizes the Republicans. And for all Americans, not just women, it's a genuinely historic moment. The verbs of Sarah Palin's life convey her solidity: worked, earned, raised, ran, won, led. In selecting her, Mr. McCain pays signal tribute to the difficult path pursued by many American women."The Times, in its usually fair-minded way, noted that some would say Palin's selection was merely political, but it then rebutted that criticism: "By choosing a woman who seems untested on the national stage, it will be said that Mr. McCain looks desperate, driven to gamble that the women's vote will turn into a plus. Maybe, but so what? That has always been the first criterion for running mates: Who will bring the most to the ticket?"
OK, confession time: This was not the initial Times editorial about Sarah Palin. It was the editorial on July 13, 1984, that supported Democratic VP candidate Geraldine Ferraro: Merely trade Ferraro for Palin, and Walter Mondale (that year's Democratic presidential candidate) for McCain. This year, the Times is repeatedly demanding that Palin "fill in for the voting public the gaping blanks about her record and qualifications to be vice president." In 1984, as WORLD reader Keith Appell pointed out to me, "the Times made no such demands—but blindly accepted that she was ready."

White Smoke---Covering/Screening only
Yellow Smoke---Designated target (Fire at will)
Purple Smoke---All after is sarcastic
Green Smoke---Kook Identified
White Star Cluster---All Clear
Yellow Star Cluster---Cease-fire
Red Star Cluster---Danger
Some Examples:Red says something smart and instead of "ducking," pops white smoke and disengages.

The estimable John Lott on how badly Biden mangled the truth in his debate with Palin, and how the MSM has been covering for him ever since.
When you interview for a job, here is a hint: make sure you know what the job is. Joe Biden failed that test last Thursday. He couldn’t even get right what a vice president does, but the media didn’t notice.
The media is all over itself about how smart and experienced Biden is. Political analyst Charlie Cook is quoted in the Washington Post on Saturday as saying “Biden is clearly so much more knowledgeable, by a factor of about a million.” Saturday Night Live does a skit about Biden being smart, if slimy. Meanwhile, Governor Sarah Palin is treated as being nothing more than a simpleton.

As far as the sheriff in Chicago goes, I say its fairly practical not to evict anyone and everyone that comes across his desk. Under normal circumstances of course he should, but with tnes of thousands of foreclosures why throw people out of homes that the banks probably wouldn't be able to sell anyway?
IF the bank in question is actually willing to keep up the property and actively try to sell it its a whole different story, but too many times these houses are just becoming abondoned and used for squatters and then condemed.

I'm sifting through this Obama-New Party thing, and while I've already drawn my own conclusions long before this story regarding the fact that he is a radical Leftist, I keep seeing things like...
Though Illinois was not one of the states that permitted electoral fusion, in 1995 Barack Obama nonetheless sought the New Party’s endorsement for his 1996 state senate run. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.
...brought up in articles, but cannot find a citation where it is explicit that Obama sought the endorsement, just that he was endorsed and the DSA/New Party claimed him as one of theirs. Just because he was endorsed doesn't mean he sought the endorsment. I believe he did seek it, but I need some evidence before I can spread the word.

An example from Geraldine Ferraro on 'Good Morning America,' September 3, 2008:
ROBERTS: She illuminates a lot of the strengths of, of John McCain being a maverick and being a reformer some things that people have forgotten. Now, there is one thing that Governor Palin said when -- concerning Hillary Clinton, and remember all of the thought that there was sexism and what was covered and how the press was dealing with that.
FERRARO: I'm one of those people who complained bitterly about that.
ROBERTS: Right and the article with "Newsweek," Sarah Palin talked about how maybe it was Hillary Clinton did a disservice to herself by bringing that up. I want to get your reaction to this.
PALIN (VIDEO CLIP): When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism, or, you know, maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think that, that doesn't do us any good.
FERRARO: You know that, that, was a complaint that we heard from a lot of women. But to be quite frank, it wasn't Hillary who was complaining. It was us. It was, it was me and several others. In fact if you take a look at the Hillary Clinton voters, there are some people there who are called PUMA....Those are the women who turned around and said that the sexism in the press was so bad during the primaries and they're furious at the DNC, the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, and Barack Obama for not speaking up against this. And they say there's this double standard. If racist -- if the media had approached Barack Obama in a racist way, everybody would have been screaming and rightly so. With Hillary, not so. And one of the things I mentioned earler when I was on, on GMA, was I said, you know, there was a guy sitting there with a sign saying "iron my shirts." Why didn't the media report that? Does that not indicate that there is sexism in this country? [Actually, quite a few media outlets picked it up.]
Had somebody been there with a sign for Barack Obama that said shine my shoes, would there not have been a reporting of that? No double standard. No double standard. And there are those PUMA people are those people who say "we're not going to vote for Barack Obama. We're going to vote for John McCain. Or we're going to write in Hillary, or what we're going to do is we're not going to do anything on the top line." Those, some of those people, maybe John McCain will pick up. But, you know, it is, it is a very bad place to be. And I have to tell you, even Governor Palin thinks that's whining. A lot of those PUMA people and I will be watching very carefully to make sure that you treat her just like anybody else. Go to her, her qualifications, go to her experience. Go to whatever you want to. But make sure it's done on a basis where she's treated like a guy by the media. No sexism. Because we'll be looking.
An example from Cal Thomas on 'FOX News Watch,' September 13, 2008:
THOMAS: I was going to say there's an interesting double standard here when we're dealing with women. 1984, when Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman on a national ticket, "The New York Times" had a totally different editorial approach than they did with Sarah Palin. They did not talk about her fitness or readiness or any female qualifications in 1984 in their editorial, but this time they are all over the place saying that that ought to be the primary standard for selection as vice president.

Pepper spray is more effective against a bear than against any other mammal. Bears have the most sensitive scent organs, even more so than dogs. The strong odor of pepper spray basically incapacitates the bear.
However, bear in mind things like wind direction and how the spray may affect your own ability to escape the scene. In other words, it works best if you're upwind from the bear, and not the other way around!

As part of our Corrections Officer training we get to be pepper sprayed in the eyes as a requirement for our Chemical Weapons Certification. We do not however have to be shot as part of our Deadly Weapons Certification. I'm pretty sure I'd choose the pepper spray but then I'm not a bear.
In other words, it works best if you're upwind from the bear, and not the other way around!
sounds like sprinkling cayenne pepper on the ground around your AO might w*rk best..... kinda like CS crystals for bears.

I had a S&W 629. She stayed in the tent with her Colt Diamondback. We were undergunned somewhat. One of the other campers came over with a .45. We looked at each other, shrugged, and yelled at the bear. A short time later a guy came with a truck full of bear dogs to "exercise" them and they chased the bear for hours. After we all went to sleep the bear came back for the fourth time and tore the neighbors camp to shreds. Nobody woke up.

re: #276 victor_yugo
There are two schools of thought on the role of the executive in terms of checks and balances. Some executive offices have veto power, the ability to unilaterally pardon, etc, such as the Presidency and that is the limit of their ability to check the Legislature and the Judiciary.
The other Jacksonian school of thought being that, Executives have the responsibility to uphold the spirit of the law (extending from the philosophy that all public servants do) and can outright disobey the Judiciary and Legislature with impunity, unless those bodies wish to drag the Executive into court, or impeach him and actually remove him from office wearing leg irons; or specifically in Jackson's case more likely a coffin.
I have a feeling that Jefferson intended for the first school of thought to be true, but his system lacking a level of perfection that he desired concerning the power of the executive office proferred by the Constitution in the letter of the law, did not actually hold up during Jefferson's own tenure as President.

Think I came across a sort of smoking gun: Chicago New Party Update.
About 50 activists attended the Chicago New Party membership meeting in July. The purpose of the meeting was to update members on local activities and to hear appeals for NP support from four potential political candidates. The NP is being very active in organization building and politics. There are 300 members in Chicago. In order to build an organizational and financial base the NP is sponsoring house parties. Locally it has been successful both fiscally and in building a grassroots base. Nationwide it has resulted in 1000 people committed to monthly contributions. The NP's political strategy is to support progressive candidates in elections only if they have a concrete chance to "win". This has resulted in a winning ratio of 77 of 110 elections. Candidates must be approved via a NP political committee. Once approved, candidates must sign a contract with the NP. The contract mandates that they must have a visible and active relationship with the NP.
The political entourage included Alderman Michael Chandler, William Delgado, chief of staff for State Rep Miguel del Valle, and spokespersons for State Sen. Alice Palmer, Sonya Sanchez, chief of staff for State Sen. Jesse Garcia, who is running for State Rep in Garcia's District; and Barack Obama, chief of staff for State Sen. Alice Palmer. Obama is running for Palmer's vacant seat.
The person who did the legwork to find this is the New Zeal blogger. And he did it back in January 2008.

If the Shift Lieutenant orders me not to fire his ass is grass. In the case of police in sanctuary cities that do not turn in illegal aliens who then commit some horrendous crime, they're being taken to civil court.

hard to say..... in the 50's Truman sent the 82nd to Little Rock. here in Lost Angels, even though there's a state medical marijuana law and the city gives licenses (and takes fees for) medical marijuana shops, when the DEA shows up, the LAPD goes along to provide area security. each scenario would be different, depending upon the unique nature of what law where, and the personalities at each level, plus the political landscape.
in short, there is no cookie cutter answer.

Most Democrats, while having socialist leanings, are more about State-Capitalism planned economies. Modern Dems are more like the Teddy Roosevelt Era Republican progressives. The TrustBusters that want Wall Street bloodied, but not killed outright.
Out and out Socialists they are not. Those slight left of center Democrats might just be willing to be swayed to voting for a slightly left of center Republican instead.

The fact that I avoid certain things also means that I don't learn how to use &/or manipulate them. I have, on rare occasions, for instance, downloaded a podcast of a radio show interview. Unfortunately carrying anything like that in the outdoors requires reems of paperwork, liscences and such. Just the sheer thought about paperwork is staggering enough. Not to mention the fact of carrying it all.
There was a time, at least in B.C., that if you were in possession of a Free Miner's Certificate, you could get a permit to carry a handgun in the bush. The law recognized, quite reasonably, that toting a long gun, in addition to the other tools that a prospector might be expected to need, was impractical.
I've had an FMC for years, and never bothered to get a permit to carry a handgun, although I've packed a rifle in bear country. I've seen bears, and even had one walk right past the tent in which I was sleeping, but never had to shoot at one.
I have been in the bush on several occasions in the company of people who were toting handguns. Even got to shoot a few rounds.

There's more. Jonathan Martin of Politico says that McCain's camp has promised "something to talk about" Thursday morning.
And treat this as the rumour it currently is at a Hillary Clinton forum, but an insider claims the mother of all October Surprises is cooking.
Hint: ACORN. RICO.
(Sorry I've been away! I've been blogging up a storm, and commenting in places where McCain needed a voice)
Interesting, especially if anything comes of it. There's only one way to describe this!

Read my #343 that Badge was responding to. It's about a possible October Surprise which would derail Obama's campaign.

About the ACORN shite that's allegedly going to hit the fan tomorrow a.m. Supposedly the riots will be 'cause Bush-Cheney are stealing this election but I suppose not everyone knows the 22nd Amendment.

Matrix, I'm not on board with "Mocha Messiah"...but yes, it has to do with his possibly being in a whole mess of trouble if this is true.

re: #341 Alberta Oil Peon
Even got to shoot a few rounds.
bear in mind i'm not advocating shooting every bear who comes by looking for food, but if it comes down to protecting someone who took the precautions and the bear goes nuts, we're short one bear.
stupid people that don;t take the necessary precautions are on their own. i'm a firm believer in natural selection.

That was reported on Friday, when the offices of ACORN were raided in Nevada. However, this is where it gets interestin'.
Karl Rove was seen in Vegas on Friday, after the ACORN raided story broke. I wonder if he found some interesting juicy bits to report, and was waiting for a concerted October Surprise attack?

Slightly OT: there are rumbling(s) of a Army alert because of this. Expecting riots allegedly.
I'm not buying this. First- it's the whacko leftist who have threatened riots if 0bama loses. Two- the first time I saw this rumor you're reporting here was from a leftist at Politico. I wonder if they're not trying to use fascist scare tactics to smear the republicans.

Here is some thinly veiled satire by Liberal Larry which lampoons Obama:
[Be careful because this is a spoof site - use grain of salt]
…desperate times for John McSame. His lipstick-adorned pig has been on the attack all day, erroneously claiming that Barack Obama has ties to Bill Ayers - an Anti-American Marxist who blew up buildings, murdered police officers and judges, and plotted a violent overthrow of the U.S. Government in the 1960's… She actually says it like it's a bad thing. Why Palin would want to energize Obama's base is beyond me...
I don't know about you guys, but if I refused to participate in any progressive organizations that had a known domestic terrorist on it's board, I'd never get anything done... Besides, if Obama refused to take money from every America-hating Marxist who supported his candidacy, he would have only three cents in his war chest with which to fight… John McSame.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if that's what it was: a smear tactic. But that's what the GOP is known for, right?

Small town (pop. ~20K).
For most of what I do on the computer, the speed doesn't really bother me. WTF . . .
20K means you probably have a central office (CO) somewhere, reasonably nearby. Heck, a tiny town of ~10,500 near here has its own CO.
To offer DSL, the telco needs a minimum line quality, which virtually guarantees at least 33.6K connections for conventional modems, possibly as high as 41K or even 48K.
Not saying you should just go out and get DSL; just that you probably have a serious line quality issue.

I think we are mostly on the same page on this. There are instances where bears will attack without provocation, but mostly the people who get hurt have done something that the bear reads as weakness or as an opportunity to feed. You leave food out, the bear thinks it's his.
Usually when I'm in the bush, I'm making enough noise swearing at the tag alder and devil's club that any bears within earshot run away and put their paws over their ears.

Precisely what I blogged about just now, Sharm.
I would say that of the two rumours currently being floated as the much vaunted October Surprise (the other that Obama was affiliated with the Socialist Party in the 90s) that this is the stronger of the two.

Yes, I'm sure I could get DSL; I've even told myself at times that I really should.
Then again, if I did that, I might have to attempt to seriously learn some shit about things like photography, YouTube, downloading MP3s & all the crap I've been avoiding. Not sure I'm ready to climb all those learning curves . . .

I'd urge everyone to calm down about this alleged upcoming RICO indictment. Barry has been wallowing in sh1t for twelve years now and it hasn't hurt his campaign. Even if he were found guilty of a RICO violation and gnawing on the body of a young child, the 48% of Americans who worship him would still support his campaign. If we expect McCain to win this, we still need to fight in the trenches. Contact every person you know.

There is only one thing that I can say about this, because otherwise I agree with you.
It's just that RICO charges are very very serious (duh, I know). It has the capability of bringing down so many in the Democratic Party, if corruption was abetted or encouraged by the higher-ups.

in my best Chris Farley voice..."Remember in the movie "Dave", when the bad guy was sitting in front of the TV with his friends and he'd just launched his presidential campaign, and fake president Dave was addressing congress and the bad guy said "Now you're finished putz!" and fake president Dave confessed to all the crimes AND implicated the bad guy and then the bad guy is sitting in his livingroom all alone 'cause all his friends left him? Wouldn't that be cool to see happen to a certain "O"?
/sleep deprivation no doubt.
