Open | Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 8:20:43 am PDT

Right after the last entry we posted last night, our Internet connection went down, and it just came back a little while ago. So here’s an open thread to contain all that pent-up verbiage we sense out there...

I wonder if when the dust settles we'll find that China and the Gulf States own all our major corporations, if they don't already.

This story is what, 2 months old?

Well nice they finally got around to it.

Obama tried to sway Iraqis on Bush deal

At the same time the Bush administration was negotiating a still elusive agreement to keep the U.S. military in Iraq, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to convince Iraqi leaders in private conversations that the president shouldn't be allowed to enact the deal without congressional approval.

Mr. Obama's conversations with the Iraqi leaders, confirmed to The Washington Times by his campaign aides, began just two weeks after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination in June and stirred controversy over the appropriateness of a White House candidate's contacts with foreign governments while the sitting president is conducting a war.

Hugh Hewitt was fantastic on Larry king live last night - he brilliantly made the case against BHO on the Ayers story in all of its ramifications.

Without resorting to undue drama or hysterics, Hewitt simply lined up the facts and the history to let the listener/viewer reach his/her own conclusions.

At the end, he posed a simple question to a panelist - a Dem female congresswoman from Florida - about Obama's connection to Ayers, a question that could have been answered with a simple yes or no answer.

The answer was as you might have guessed- the 'congress person' launched into an immediate and hateful attack against Gov Palin and effectively, McCain's bad judgment in deliberately selecting such an unqualified VP nominee.

It was breathtaking to watch the overt evasion.

I don't know why, but your Philly street kid remark reminds me of a story my dear departed grandmother told me . . .

My uncle (her son) and my mom used to play together on the streets of the Bronx. Some bigger kid came up and started pushing around my uncle, who was a little small for his age. My mom, 5 years younger than my uncle, got really mad and punched the kid in the mouth and gave him a fat lip.

Later that evening, the father & that kid came knocking at my grandmother's apartment. The father demanded to see the kid who hit his son. My grandmother produced my mother - all of 8 years old.
The father looked at his son and yelled, "You let yourself get hit by a GIRL?"

Nana said he was slapping the kid up the side of the head down the hall and out of the building, scolding him along the way.

Any moral to the story?

Maybe that street punks can get taken out by girls? Maybe that street punks get what's coming to them in the end? Maybe that Soros will slap The One all the way down the hall when he loses in November - "how could you lose to a girl?"

Maybe it's just a funny story . . . or not.

No, journalists in Russia commit suicide by jumping out of buildings with a bullet in the back of their heads.

yeah. people are a bit odd, way down south. everyone kept telling me "you know, you are south of the Mason-Dixon line here". I kept thinking wait a minute, in the dictionary, next to the word Northeast, is a picture of new jersey, where did these people come from?

;) I was born and lived way down south before coming up, and NJ is way more redneck than Mississippi or North Carolina.

Yikes.

Well, a federal judge ruled last night that the Secretary of State in Ohio is breaking federal election laws.

Other than that, there's nothing much going on here in the Buckeye state. *Yawn*.

Good to hear that!

I don't expect Brunner will actually stop it until after the election, do you?

Oddly, it isn't south of the Mason-Dixon Line. The M-D Line takes a southward jog to go between Maryland and Delaware. Thus, you are both north and east of the Mason-Dixon Line. Basically, the M-D Line separates the holdings of Lord Calvert and William Penn, as Delaware was a part of the grant to William Penn.

Well Charles, you'd be proud me. I finally bought new tires (Specialized Hemisphere) and tubes for my 20-year-old GT mountain bike yesterday, after talking about doing it for two years. Next up is a major tune-up, which will run $100, plus probably new cables and chain.

And driving in the White Mountains, you always have to be on the lookout for these critters:

I love those signs with how many moose accidents have occurred.
Mt. Washington is so beautiful. Was there in '93 Labor Day weekend with my former fiance.

177 Who Watches the Watchmen?  Fri, Oct 10, 2008 9:02:06am

Fitzmas in October?

The buzz in those corridors is that federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has been leading a team of FBI investigators in 10 states working on a RICO case.

Today, it was announced that ACORN is being investigated in 10 states....

Our source in federal courts said, “Any crime that involves more than two people and is carried out across state lines qualifies as a corrupt organization. The fact that those “Goodwill” donations were made in Texas and received at Obama headquarters in Chicago or Washington means it qualifies for RICO.”

The “Goodwill donations” referred to above are the $228 million in undocumented, unverified campaign contributions the SoetorObama camp has received — which the McCain campaigned filed a complaint to the FEC on this past Monday.

re: #104 colin nelson

I got into a discussion with an Obamanite about Ayers too. He insisted it was a "smear tactic"

Him: "It's just a smear tactic. If it was so important, why didn't they bring it up before now?"

Me: "They did bring it up before, but the pro-Obama media has ignored it."

Him: "It's just a smear tactic. Obama must know thousands of people, so what if one of them did something wrong years ago. It has nothing to do with Obama."

Me: "Ayers isn't just a random acquanitance, he helped Obama get several jobs, he even helped launch Obama's political career. And Ayers is unrepentant. Even after Ayres said he felt he didn't bomb enough, Obama continued to associate with him."

Him: "It's just a smear tactic. What about McCain? He's pals with Bush and Bush is the real terrorist!"

How can you get through that? The man has installed an impervious wall in his head.

183 realwest  Fri, Oct 10, 2008 9:05:18am

Pent up "verbiage"? How about pent up "Wit and wisdom" wouldn't that be better, albeit perhaps not as accurate?!

Good afternoon Kenneth - WHY do you do that - get into a discussion with an Obamaniac? Ya know it's just gonna wind up frustrating you!

You don't. Take the time you would argue with him and use it to convince an "undecided"

I'm beginning to wonder, what's the point of even opening the markets at this point? It seems to just be making things worse. Corrections are all well and good but this has gone beyond all rationality. Maybe we should just close them for a month. Get these people to look around them and see that we still live on an abundant planet with billions of hardworking people with the ability to transform raw resources into usable goods.

188 Beach Lover  Fri, Oct 10, 2008 9:13:01am

well here it is afternoon already! Hey everybody. I can't do long threads. Guess I need a new computer.
Anyhow, did ya see this

CLEVELAND - A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

"Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they'll give me a dollar to sign up," said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

"The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, 'You are?' I say, 'Yup,' and then they say, 'Can you just sign up again?' " he said.

they did this last time also. So why in the name of anything good and holy can these votes be counted? I mean, seems to me that anyone that registers and votes before Nov 4th should have their vote held until it can be researched to be valid. What's so hard about that?

There's some good news. A judge has ordered the Ohio Secretary of State to match new registrations against DMV and Social Security databases. Whether she'll comply is another story, but contempt of court is a fairly serious matter.

The fact that they registered and voted on the same day makes it even more crucial to verify those voters.

Hi Real, I hope you're doing all right.

I don't get frustrated, I get a kick out of disturbing their closeted brains. The moonbat inquestion was in the process of brainwashing another guy when I interrupted him. The other guy looked shocked when I described how Ayers & Obama worked closely for years. He wan't aware. So I think I might have openned his mind a crack.

Well, I'm up in Canada, so this discussion was only academic anyway. Our federal election is on October the 14th, by the way. The Conservatives are going to win, the only question is whether or net they get a majority.

I hope Reszko spills his guts to Fitzpatrick soon so we can see some fireworks over at BHO Central.

Kenneth: there is still lots of time and as we know the MSM can turn on a dime so, I am optimistic that they will have to cover the real news that Lieberman said that the Obama/Ayers connection needs to be brought out and discussed.

Even the "old gray lady" (NYT) cannot ignore that!
