The last two threads depress me.
Gloom, despair, and agony on me, deep dark depression, etc.
Most of it isn't the actual news, it's the reaction to the news.
On the upside, it's going to snow here in beautiful downtown Colorado.

Obama is now up by 108 in battle ground States. Meanwhile soup lines have turned riotous when Wall Street foodies discovered that arugula would no longer be served as a side.

"Ex"? [Jonah Goldberg]
AP headline: "McCain TV ad raises Obama's links to ex-radical."
Again, reasonable people can disagree on how to define "radical." But if you're going to say that Ayers is merely an ex-radical, even though he apparently hasn't changed his basic views or apologized for his violent past, I'm a loss how you can ever use "radical right" about people who were never violent at all — and who far less radical than Ayers is today. I mean pretty much every liberal in America refers to Gingrich-style Republicans as "radicals." If they're radicals, what the hell is Ayers?

I think it was RealWest who was making silly typos a day or two ago.
I posted a reply to one and included "Go back to sleep".
He took immediate offense, and then calmed down quickly, and I think he went to bed at that point.
Four or five posts later, I did about the same thing he was doing -- PIMF was no help at all.
So, I knew.

Am I the only one who thinks pinning hopes on the Bradley effect is a load of shit? I've been following free rep and drudge and every point increase in Obama's polling leads to the Bradley effect being increased a point in the comments.
When it was Obama by 3 - Bradley effect 4. Obama by 4, 5. Obama by 5 -- Bradley Effect is six.
Sorry. But 6% would be 7.2 million people. And as for the PUMAs - I've been following Hillaryis44.org religiously but that is bullshit. I live in Arizona - Air-ee-zone-ah. Conservative bastion that is filled with anti-African American sentiment as well as a slight disgust for immigrants. And Clintonians are supporting Obama.
I'm for throwing polls that are close out. But Gallup's only been wrong twice - and those races were close. And aggregate polling on RCP shows that Bush was ahead in 93 out of the last 100 polls conducted. We need to wake up and stop putting false hope in stupid shit like white guilt.
These posts slamming polls are reading like the kostard movement in the final weeks of the 2004 campaign. Polls can be wrong. But If 100 polls come out showing the same trend, let's man-up and stop giving people the false impression that we'll be fine. Putting campaign signs in your lawn, posting on this blog about confident and that other stuff will *not* change the reality of this sitch. What will is phonebanking. Canvassing. And delivering calm, composed reasoning to persuadables and so-called undecideds that taxing small business will destroy this economy, that we can't afford Medicare and Medicaid as it bloody fucking stands let alone a bloated, federal run health care program - that though this is a recession, we will recover because we always recover.
Or we can do the same shit the Kostards did. We can say November 5th will show us the truth. That we'll be alright on November 5th. And then have our spirits utterly fucking crushed by the reality we ignored.
Work like your 10 points down, 20 points down and if you don't pull your weight, we will lose. If you work like the Bradley effect will save our ass, YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO AN MSM MYTH THAT HAS LITTLE BASIS IN REALITY. OBAMA WON IN STATES WITH WHITES - HE IS POLLING WELL IN WEST VIRGINIA for fuck's sakes. THE BRADLEY EFFECT IS BULLSHIT.
I repeat. BULLSHIT.

I don't think here will be much of a Bradley effect. There are so many good reasons people can cite for not voting for Obama. Nobody has to feel guilty for voting against him. So even if people have a prejudice, the Bradley effect would not show up in a poll.
Problem is...so many people may vote FOR him because he is black. They think it is apologizing and fixing racism and the past. Which, is crap as I think it will make race relations worse...

Let's hear what the strongest arguments McCain can use from some of the Lizzards here. Make the case for him, and against Obama. What would you like to hear on Tuesday?
Someone on Fox spoke to this earlier tonight, and I think it's exactly the right argument that will score major points. McCain should make the same case:
The worst thing we can do to fix this mess is over-react and veer too far the other way towards too much new regulation, which could, and very likely would, clog the pipes. We need to trust the market, while protecting it from artificial, government authored mandates. The roots of our economic woes started with loosening standards, and a spasm the other way could be very hurtful to a recovery. If the next administration layers on a bunch of new regulations and taxes, especially on small businesses, any recovery will at best be weighted down, and at worst seized up completely. All signs point to an Obama administration following just this prescription.
Do we need some new oversight? Yes. But it's must be the RIGHT KIND of oversight. Between his tax increases on small business', his zeal to regulate, his dreams of an expanded government, and the special interests in his party, an Obama presidency is simply too risky for our country, at a critical time like this, to take a chance on.

Here's the actual conclusion of the report on Palin:
I find that, although Walt Monegan’s refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Gov. Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as a commissioner of public safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.

McCain should have said this "Now listen to this, I do not want anyone making any wild statements about Obama or making anything that could be a threat for two reasons. One because it is wrong. We can fight and win better than that and I will not tolerate any threats or abuse. Second, now listen to me and calm down, second is that I have heard a report that some extreme partisans who want to make us look bad are going to try to infiltrate rallies and cause trouble by saying something provocative or otherwise try to make us look bad. So simmer down, don't do anything rash and use that anger. Does it make you angry? It should, it makes me angry. So don't give our friends in the press booth anything ugly to show the American people. Now about your question about Senator Obama's friends....

McCain is fighting back hard
The Palins make no apologies for wanting to protect their family and wanting to bring attention to the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge and abusing the workers’ compensation system.
The Palins are right to be concerned about the fairness of the Legislative Council investigation. The Governor has consistently demonstrated, in statements and through documents she has made available, that she reassigned Mr. Monegan because of legitimate policy differences and disputes over the budget.
It is tragic that a false story hatched by a blogger after drinks with Trooper Wooten led the legislature to allocate over $100,000 of public money to be spent in what has become a politically driven investigation.

Now I'm going to throw up.

Mandy,
I've been a huge follower of James Lee Burke since before he made it big ...he was writer in residence at the local college back in the eighties and is sort of a legend 'round here, especially since he writes of this area and specifies locations that many of us locals can identify ...especially when he goes down memory lane and writes of what "used to be there".
We know those places.
However. He does book signings at a little hole-in-the-wall bookstore called Books Along the Teche in New Iberia, right down the road from the mansion he just built along the bayou.
He strolls along main street looking just like he does on the book flaps. He eats in the local lost-in-time cafes along Main Street. It's not uncommon to see him just hanging out having coffee. You'd think he was one of the most affable guys in the world.
I've attended several of his book signings. He doesn't have a word for anyone. I was really surprised at his manner. No politeness, no conversational or polite exchanges ....just him and a couple of ex-football player looking thugs standing guard as he quietly signs books. We were all ushered out after our book was signed. Then after I read Tin Roof Blowdown and realized just how *progressive* he was, I became a non-fan.
Too bad.

it's always darkest before the dawn..etc. etc.
After a while the king led his men away somewhat eastward, to come between the fires of the siege and the outer fields. Still they were unchallenged, and still Theoden gave no signal. At last he halted once again. The City was now nearer. A smell of burning was in the air and a very shadow of death. The horses were uneasy. But the king sat upon Snowmane, motionless, gazing upon the agony of Minas Tirith, as if stricken suddenly by anguish, or by dread. He seemed to shrink down, cowed by age. Merry himself felt as if a great weight of horror and doubt had settled on him. His heart beat slowly. Time seemed poised in uncertainty. They were too late! Too late was worse than never! Perhaps Theoden would quail, bow his old head, turn, slink away to hide in the hills.
Then suddenly Merry felt it at last, beyond doubt: a change. Wind was in his face! Light was glimmering. Far, far away, in the South the clouds could be seen dimly as remote grey shapes, rolling up, drifting; morning lay beyond them.
But at that same moment there was a flash, as if lightning had sprung from the earth beneath the City. For a searing second it stood dazzling far off in black and white, its topmost tower like a glittering needle; and then as the darkness closed again there came rolling over the fields a great boom.
At that sound the bent shape of the king suddenly sprang erect. Tall and proud he seemed again; and rising in his stirrups he cried in a loud voice, more clear than any there had ever heard a mortal man achieve before:
Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden!
Fell deeds awake; fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!
With that he seized a great horn from Guthlaf his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder. and straightaway all the horns in the host were lifted up in music, and the blowing of the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains.
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!
Suddenly the king cried to Snowman and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of green, but he outpaced it. After him thundered the knights of his house, but he was ever before them. Eomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first eored roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Theoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Orome the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. His golden shield was uncovered, and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. For morning came, morning and a wind from the sea; and darkness was removed, and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them ...

re: #184 Captkirk35
The case against Obama? Where to begin . . . my head spins:
143 Days in the US Senate
Big gaps in his past - especially college years at Columbia
How could one be named to the Harvard Law Review and never publish a single scholarly work?
His college thesis
His medical records were never released - why?
I found it curious that no one from his past except his wife & some siblings could or would vouch for his character at the Dem convention.
$1 million/day in requested earmarks since being elected to US Senate
opposition to BAIPA (Born Alive Infant Protection Act)
Opposition to guns rights
Stifling of free speech
No credible specific plans to help the economy
Plans to double capital gains rate, even forfeiting an increase in revenue to the government, in the interest of "fairness"
Further explanations of past relationships - Ayers, Resko, etc
Why did he launch his political career in the living room of Ayers?
Why did he write the blurb for the cover of Ayer's book?
Why was he running for public office as a member of the New Party in Chicago?
Was his trip to Kenya to support "cousin" Odinga's candidacy funded by the taxpayers?
That's what I can think of right off the top of my head, not stopping my typing.
Maybe we can get a list of these points together and send it to Sarah Palin, since McCain is tone-deaf to us . . .

Why?
The assault or not as taboo?
Well, more gay black men have come out of the closet over the years and there is more tolerance for them as a result.
As far as the assault, it was a macho thing. When I was young (at the time of the 80's gang explosion) I actually got into a fight because I didn't like the way someone looked at me. It was hyper-macho stupidity. I had someone get in my face because I was smiling for no apparent reason. "What the f*ck are you smilin' 'bout boy?"
You got "cred" by using women or being violent. That was the scumbag definition of "being a man".
I got lucky. My folks pulled me out of that neighborhood. Otherwise I would be dead or in jail.

The locals all consider him one of "ours". I don't know if he was born here (Lafayette area .......Jeanerette, I believe) or not. I know that the local lore has him a part of the local writer's underground before he made it big.
/I have a signed first edition of Lost Get Back Boogie, as well as signed firsts of everything except the last couple.
/His daughter, Alafair, is a fair writer also. Same flavor.
He was born in Houston, I think.

I'm just going to say something about the Jeremiah Wright thing and John McCain. I really don't want to hear someone or some branch of the RNC who had the money to run some ads on their own complain about Barak winning without John hammering him on this topic. If you have the money to run some ads, then you need to step up. Barak sat there for 20 years listening to a man defile this country and did not one thing to get away. He should be hammered about that for the next 25 days, and no one with the money to do it needs to complain. There, that's all I'm going to say on that subject!

Where is the media concern about the age and competency of Joe Biden who thinks President Roosevelt addressed the nation on television about the depression? Hoover, Joey, and there was no TV at the time.
The only up side to the massive media tanking for Obama is that they will flay his hide off when he bungles the economy and gets us into a major international crisis through his obvious lack of the necessaries. They will turn on him on a dime.
Obama has the real rocket scientists available to help him as President, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Schumer, and Bwarney Frank. Heh.

No, Top just made them clean off his window. Off duty drunkeness was looked upon with a wry smile back in those days.
I remember as a young soldier we had some parties that frankly I'm amazed we lived through. I partied one time over to the Navy Barracks when they acquired a brand new large metal trash can. We dropped a block of ice in there and proceeded to fill it with whatever anyone had. They poured in German beer, various wines, Rum 151, Jaegermeister, various whiskeys, vodka, various sodas, you get the idea. And I know a couple cans of grapefruit juice went in. Everyone contributed and ensured the can was full to the top.
It was truly horrible at first, but as the night went on, you kind of acquired a taste for it. I think we named it AhhhShit, because when that is what was said when you first drank it.
I remember the Naval commander and their Master Chief Petty Officer came in there Monday morning and we were all kind of just laying there, not moving much. The MCPO went over and sniffed the can, said Bullshit. He went over to the cupboard and pulled out the Tabasco Sauce, poured it all in there, tossed the bottle in there, called us a bunch of panty waisted rookies that we couldn't even mix a decent drink and they walked out.
Interesting times, indeed. ;-)>

Yes.
But your account does not 'appreciate' until you pay the money back (including interest). All funds that go to the account count as loan payments until the loan is paid off.
Only the portion of your account that you borrowed is affected. So you are paying yourself the interest on the loan amount. Once you get to a point in your 401k that the loan is minor to the total not a bad deal IMHO for what it's worth.(or under current conditions the only investment that is still of value)

Plus not all companies allow it. At one layoff that I went through, we were told that all loaned money had to be paid back to the 401k or it would be considered a taxable distribution. I hadn't borrowed, so I was fine.
That's an IRS rule, if I'm not mistaken. The company can't maintain that loan within your 401(k) if you're not in their employ. If you leave, everything has to even up, I think. I'm no expert.
Borrowed from mine to buy my house, but a portion of that also makes interest, so my loan is like, 2% or something. I'm not sure, but right now I think I'm making more on that loan amount than I am in the rest of my balance - or should I say, not losing as much as the rest.
I've lost about 10k since July.

For sure. When I was a Platoon Sergeant, I used to take them on a health run on Monday morning. We would keep going until the smell of alcohol wouldn't get a bunny high running along side us. Depending how close to payday it was the run could go awhile.

OT:
gmsc said this yesterday....What McCain really needs to do is to get the idea of Obama's inexperience and mysterious background across so that it becomes a meme.
I'd love to see a John McCain ad that goes something like this:
Who is Barack Obama? He was born in . . . well, that's a matter of current court dispute, so we have to refrain from talking about that.
As he grew, Obama was heavily influenced by his father's religious and philosophical views of . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
In his teenage years, Obama made many friends in line with his beliefs, such as . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
He was able to attend college, and even graduated Harvard Law School, thanks largely to funding by . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
After he graduated, he used his legal expertise to help out groups like . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
He also married Michelle Obama, who has given speeches on Obama's proposed policies. The point we disagree on from her speeches . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
After law school, he also made numerous more friends in line with his beliefs like . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
He also joined several organizations whose philosophy was . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.
After that, he became a senator, announcing his candidacy for president after holding that office for 143 days.
So, there you have it - Obama was born, graduated from Harvard Law School, became a US Senator, and then ran for president. We could tell you more, but . . . well, the Obama campaign would prefer we didn't talk about that.

The real question is how long has that been true?
ACORN Falls Close To Tree-----Eyebrows were raised last week by a fundraising invitation sent by the Friends Of Bill de Blasio. de Blasio, who managed Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign, held the December 7 event to fund his run for the 39th Councilmanic District seat.
The invitation listed the committee's address as 88 Third Avenue, which may be familiar to some as the address for the community group ACORN. The contact on the invitation was Kara Hood, an ACORN political organizer. One insider thought that the connection between the candidate and the community group was too tight, and could imply that ACORN's stance on community issues was politicized. "That's a little too close for comfort for me," he said.

Michelle Obama strikes me as someone too comfortable with outspoken, violent or virulently America haters, such as as the Ayers and that whole 1960s racial-based radicalism.
Remember those US athletes who raised their fists in a defiant salute on the victors' stands while the US national anthem played during the Mexico City Olympics in 1968?
Michelle & Obama's reluctance to show love or pride in America unless they're "getting" something for nothing reminds me of that time.

The past couple of weeks...economically and politically...haven't been half as much fun as a backed up toilet.
How did we get here?
But seriously, it's been decades in the making. The 1930's might be a good place to start ... socialism and communism first got a toehold here then. In the late 50's our media made a celebrity out of Fidel Castro. Then the media misreported Vietnam and inspired a generation of radicals who went on to get involved in academia and the entertainment industry. Meanwhile our growing prosperity gave birth to a growing sense of entitlement. Then came Johnson's "Great Society," building on Roosevelt's "New Deal" and vastly expanding the welfare state. And finally, the advent of politicial correctness, which made it unseemly to judge or criticize anyone for anything, unless of course they are white males of European descent or female Alaskan governors, then they are fair game.

Just remember, socialism has many shades.
That's true.
That's why I like my socalism as predictable as possible.
The major difference between HRC and JM is abortion and several social issues like that. Hillary would not have repeated Bill's blunders as regards terrorism, and trying to re-create her original healthcare bill would have been a non-starter.
Given current economic conditions, SocializedNational Heathcare is also a non-starter. She would not pull troops from wherever prematurely. She actually has some street cred on foreign affairs.
I've heard McCain speak on several issues, and I know what his position actually was on several issues.
In midsummer "Drill Baby Drill" was not an option, and I still mistrust him on immigration.

Introduction
Beginning in October 2007, Governor Sarah Palin and members of her administration repeatedly clashed with Department of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, a member of her cabinet, over budgetary issues and department direction. On July 11, 2008, after multiple efforts to reach a consensus had failed, Governor Palin offered Mr. Monegan a new position as head of the Alaska Alcohol Control Board. Mr. Monegan declined the offer and was dismissed as a result.
That basically says "Move along. Nothing to see here".

I'm going to get dinged-down for this, but I'd have voted for Hillary instead of several people the Republicans might have selected (my choices were Fred! and Duncan Hunter).
That would have included McCain with almost anybody except Sarah Palin.Hillary is "dependable". I can tell you what she's going to do in almost any situation. She does NOT hate the country. She is one seriously ballsy b!tch.
The one dependable thing that Hillary will do in any given situation is whatever she thinks will gain her political advantage. She and Bill have that in common.
She would be a left-wing disaster as President, but less of one than Obama -- because Hillary understands that you have to coax America gradually to the left. She learned that the hard way with HillaryCare and with the 1994 backlash that put Congress in Republican hands for 12 years.
By contrast, Obama is far likelier to go hard, hard left all at once -- and he has the Democrat Congress with which to do it. Undoing the damage of his first two years in office will take a decade or more.

Think people!
I again applaud your passion and tenacity but here, well, I do not agree; I think he (McCain) simply does not need to say anything to reduce the fervor and zeal that was starting to catch fire. He could say that we want to watch the rhetoric but there is no need for him to be complimenting BHO - he needs to understand that many of us find BHO to be despicable. My axe to grind is over this undermining of our troops and administration by backdooring communications with Iraqi leaders to benefit his candidacy. This is just one of a plethora of issues I have with this individual who I also am confident is at his heart, a Socialist.
So, in my view, BHO is abhorrent. It is ok to say that.

Well, none of the ones I saw really giving up the ship have much stock in this blog, in terms of participation. I'd take what they have to say with a grain of salt.

Snip:
Speaking to a group of young Catholics in New York almost one month before Election Day, I had a harsh awakening as jarring as a shot of Wild Turkey 101. Weeks before going to the polling booth, Americans do not know Barack Obama. In a packed bar, I was discussing the contentious question of whether a Catholic can support Obama for president. I highlighted the priority that defending innocent human lives takes in these considerations, according to the Church. I then went through Obama's radical record on abortion. The jolt came after I finished speaking, when one by one, people told me they had no idea Obama was so radical.
They were shocked. And so was I.

You know, Sharmuta, he didn't have to say anything. Nada. Zip. Zero.
I was appalled at his lack of understanding what this campaign is all about and what is at stake. This is not some collegial senate discussion. Who the hell is he trying to impress with his politeness or idiotic sense of fair play against a corrupt and evil political machine? And who the hell is he to lecture his supporters like they were children? It means he's seriously out of touch with the reality of this campaign and doesn't know how to play the game. I borrowed about 20K from my 401k back in early 2000 for part of the down payment on my house (not my first house). 10-year term, ~10.5% interest. Paid it off in about 4 years. Not having that money in the market 2000-2004 wasn't such a bad thing. I think the "paying it back if you leave the employer" is an IRS rule.

You think it's off-limits to criticize your candidate when you think he's not always doing what it takes to win?
There is a difference between honest criticism and the remarks that have been reflected the last few days.
But, I have always found it strange how everyone "knows" exactly what it takes to win and if the candidate would just do what this given person wanted the election would be his/hers.
I've seen the same thing with average people second guessing Generals in how they would have run a battle and won. Or coached a ball team and won.
But then, that thread was overrun with a whole bunch of people with under 300 posts. Many with under 50.

For one, up until the point the book was published he had written and published next to nothing. What he had written would barely receive a passing grade in a college freshman writing class, let alone live up to the caliber of "Dreams of My Father". Secondly, he had to have major editorial help, up to and including a ghostwriter. The interesting part is who some say the ghost writer is, or at least, could be. Read the whole story here. Secondly, he had to have major editorial help, up to and including a ghostwriter. The interesting part is who some say the ghost writer is, or at least, could be. Read the whole story here. I just heard it on talk radio, so apparently its getting around.
The Ayers theory is advancing with some solid research.

Buy a house instead.
Have one. Nice little house on a hill three blocks from the waters edge.
Paradise.
I also have an interest in a large waterfront home. We are having a little trouble renting it out at the moment.
My real estate investments are the best things on my books at the moment.
I am looking for reasons why I should not look at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and AIG as bargains to be picked up at their bottom. I figure their must be a good rock solid reason, I just don't know what it is yet.

Well, they've already done that, for all intents and purposes, but I am not in disagreement with you - McCain had to do something. Frankly, I sort of wish he had gone down and bitch-slapped that plant that made the ignorant proclamation, but I fully understand that was out of the question. ;)

More signs of the exponentially expanding psychological disorder (aka mental illness, aka liberalism, aka the cult of obamessiah), as covered by David Boze, a conservative radio host from 770 KTTH in Seattle:

and this one: Seattle's Kid Zombies for Obama, Obama the "Messiah", AND Will YOUR kids learn to report YOU?
One listener to Dave's program called in to suggest that there be a "Pit Bulls for Palin" event at Green Lake park in Seattle, concurrent with the obamaton love-fest. It would be quite a sight, I'm sure!

People must be told about who Obama really is, and why he must not be elected. McCain needs more volunteers in key states to help get the message out.
The past week or two have been disastrous for America, and the rest of the world, economically. Expect more of that shit if Obama comes to power. This is how Socialism starts.

re: #674 Irene NYC
You know, Sharmuta, he didn't have to say anything. Nada. Zip. Zero.
I was appalled at his lack of understanding what this campaign is all about and what is at stake. This is not some collegial senate discussion. Who the hell is he trying to impress with his politeness or idiotic sense of fair play against a corrupt and evil political machine? And who the hell is he to lecture his supporters like they were children? It means he's seriously out of touch with the reality of this campaign and doesn't know how to play the game. Obama's camp must be laughing their asses off. I'm stunned and horrified.
So you're going to bad mouth him? Give his political opponents fodder for their ads?
Yeah, he could have given a better answer. But when Obama sucked his way through the whole "breath-alizer/inhalizer" thing, his supporters never put him down, no matter how ridiculous it was.
Yet here we are, tearing John McCain down for making what is arguably a "country first" answer.
He may not have torn into Obama like you'd wanted him to, but he made a statement that was honorable, and presidential.
And if he loses the election because of it? Then I'm on his side. I don't want to be a part of a slimy, win at all cost group.
I'll still be a proud American if Obama is my president. And I won't have lost my self respect.

I know why he did it. I had an idea why he did it before I even knew what the questioner had said - I said to a friend, "Well, what question was he asked? I'll bet it was pretty bad."
Having said that, I think what's troubling is that he couldn't find a way to do this without lying to his own supporters about Obama. And if he wasn't lying - if he truly believes that an Obama presidency is nothing to fear and that Obama is a decent man - then at least some of us who believe otherwise feel a little bit like fools tonight, because up until now we thought we were all fighting for the same thing, for the same reasons.
Not trying to argue with anybody...just trying to articulate why this is so depressing.
I wouldn't miss the chance to vote against Obama, in any case. When things get bad under total Democrat control of the U.S.A., I don't want that sitting-out-the-election "blood" on my hands.

Good thing you don't smoke. I'm assuming that, because you'd know where your matches were otherwise. Or your lighter.

So many stocks are at stupid low prices. Its a bit of a pickle trying to sift the wheat from the chaff.
I am thinking about Johnson and Johnson and Hershey's. I am trying to figure out what if anything is bargain at this level worth risking the money. I am willing to gamble a little bit, but not too much.
To quote - someone - The time to buy is when there is blood in the streets."
I agree that we have a buying opportunity. However, I let the pros pick them for me - mutual funds. I did reallocate to sectors that I think are really ridiculously undervalued now and therefore have huge growth potential. And I more than doubled my pretax contrib. :D

I have a lot of lighters and backup matches, just in case. I can't fallback and use a burner, as I am afraid of my stove.
