A clown is funny in the circus ring, but what would be the normal reaction to opening a door at midnight and finding the same clown standing there in the moonlight?

A clown running for president of the United States is kind of scary too.

Grassroots “Kids for Obama Parade” (Organizing)
On Sunday, October 12, Washington State kids and families will parade around Seattle’s Green Lake. “Kids for Obama Parade” will illustrate one of Barack Obama’s core beliefs: Everyone’s voice counts. Join us as Obama’s youngest supporters rally their families and call for change, for a better America. At 2 pm, rain or shine, children and teens will express with words and drawings their hopes for the future of America on “wish flags” that will be mailed to Obama. The first 300 kids will be given a helium balloon, an expression of solidarity. At 3 pm, the “Kids for Obama Parade” will skip, toddle, stroller, rollerblade, pedal, and red-wagon clockwise around Green Lake in a cloud of red, white, and blue balloons and a garland of kid-made wish flags. How to prepare? If possible, bring home-made signs and wear red, white, and/or blue clothing. That goes for moms, dads, big brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grandparents too. Please spread the word.
Time: Sunday, October 12 at 2:00 PM
Duration: 3 hours
Host: Erika Berg
Location:
Green Lake (Seattle, WA)
beside the Bathhouse Theater
7312 W. Greenlake Dr. N
Seattle, WA 98103

Also these:
al-Taqiyya part 1, part 2, part 3
Written by a Muslim, for Muslims; all quotes are sourced. The writer states his intention in the second paragraph:
I intend to demonstrate and prove that the concept of "al-Taqiyya" is an integral part of Islam, and that it is NOT a Shi'ite concoction.

It looks like this may be a coulrophobia thread.
p.s. I'm not exactly a newly-hatched lizard, but rather, one that has shed old skin for new. Formerly known as wannabuyaduck, with a nod to Joe Penner, I had been thinking for awhile about how I would really like to put up a fox avatar, having always liked foxes with their looks and nature combining something of the dog and something of the cat (when I was a kid it would annoy me that the foxes were almost always the villains in stories and cartoons) -- and nowadays, most of my gainful employment involves qwerty work, so it seemed fitting enough. The question of brown fox or red fox was solved by the fact that though I am in one of the bluest of areas, I have more of a red-state state of mind. So here I am, same lizard but new skin -- not a sock, not a troll!

And on a personal note, I found out this evening that I may get laid off the last full week of the month. There's a chance I won't, thanks to my particular training, but it's only a chance right now. In a week I should know for certain one way or the other.
Nevertheless, I'm still able to smile tonight. I'll be able to pay my rent for next month, cover the bills for this month, and I'm going to a gathering of like-minded types tomorrow. Life is... well, let's just say it doesn't suck.

Dude. You should really seek the advise of a financial planner - you and the Mrs., bring the kids - all 17 of them.
A stock here or there might make you rich - or unbelievably f*cking poor.
Get your dollars allocated according to a risk/reward spectrum you're comfortable with, and f*cking leave it there. Update your goals annually. If your planner is reluctant to have an annual meeting, move your dough.

it likely was a contributing factor.
What?
It is also "likely" that Obama knew that Ayers and Dohrn were unrepentant domestic terrorists when he first met them in 1988...
It is also "likely" that Obama was criminally involved with Tony Rezko...
It is also "likely" that Obama's paid surrogate Acorn is heavily involved in voter freud in several swing states...
It is also "likely" that Obama not only knew about Acorns voter freud efforts, but funded them...
It is also "likely" that Obama was sitting in his pew with his wife and children while Reverend Jeremiah Wright was spewing his "hate-whitey", "hate America" rhetoric...
It is also "likely" Nancy Pelosi awarded her husband's company several government contracts illegally...
It is also "likely" that Dianne Finestein awarded her husbands company several government contracts illegally...
It is also "likely" that Obama was working with known Saudi terrorist supporter Dr. Khalid al-Mansour...
It is also "likely" that Obama knowingly sent his Muslim outreach director to meet with Hamas and Hezbollah...
Shall I go continue?

You sound like me on the last full time job I had. I couldn't wait to get laid off.
I was quality control of a software product. I would break it, write up how I broke it, then the programmers would fix some of the bugs, all the while selling the product like it was ready to roll.I knew the company was going down the tubes. I was right. Today, they are history.
Been there, done that. The second full-time IT job I had. Only, I didn't leave of my own volition.
Then again, the jerk who fired me was caught two months later in a monstrous lie, when he told his boss the department's assignment could be done in two weeks. The rank-and-file then told their boss's boss (on their own) that two weeks didn't have enough hours to get the work done... more like six weeks if everyone worked 24/7.
Jerk was gone very shortly after that.

Somali pirates release hijacked Iranian ship
TEHRAN (AFP) — Pirates released an Iranian ship that had been hijacked off the Somali coast in August, state news agency IRNA reported on Friday.
"The ship Dianat was released on Friday morning after seven weeks of ... negotiations with Somali pirates," the state-owned Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines said in statement carried by the agency.
"All 29 members of the crew are safe and sound and the ship is sailing towards international waters," it said.
The report did not say whether ransom was paid. [YA THINK?]
The merchant vessel was headed from China to the Netherlands carrying minerals and industrial products when it was hijacked on August 21 along with a German and a Japanese ship off the Gulf of Aden.
The waters off Somalia and Nigeria are the most pirate-infested in the world.

No, when 4chan rigged the Mets' voting for new theme song, that was the ultimate Rickroll!
However, the Flintstones were the first to Rickroll people, or rather, Rockrolll people!

Can someone explain to me what the Walter Annenberg foundation is doing giving William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn 100 million dollars?
Are they COMPLETELY INSANE
My God, what has happened to this world when a foundation of a close personal friend and supporter of Ronald Reagan give a $100 Million grant to two unrepentant domestic terrorists?
Only in the land of Kos could this make any sense (and Chicago of course)...
Look at how the Ford foundation and also how the Heinz money is being spent. Not likely how the people that built that wealth would want it spent. The explanation is when you are dead your useless progeny will f up your wishes.

True. He was the world's greatest pantomimist, which is what silent-movie actors are. He would have made the transition to talkies quite nicely, too, but he died shortly after they became the norm. In fact, he was originally cast as Dracula in the original. That would have been cool, though I don't think Bela Lugosi ever would have been discovered.

Hon - I did not think of that - it is my swan song - you are in a good place.
My point is - if you don't know where the market is going ... why bet on it. There are much safer options.
Having seen the dirty side of financing, my opinion of a lot of what takes place is not very positive. What do you consider safe options? Tonight, I'm grappling with the question of inflation. Specifically, where should we park out wealth for the upcoming inflation - especially if Obama is elected?

Agreed. I think a lot of the crap that arose in the 60's was the result of parents of the greatest generation trying to make it easier on their kids, with the unintended consequence of spoiling the shit out of them. And we're paying the price since and especially now. Not all of us were spoiled. We need to man the ramparts. Eternal vigilance and all that.........

Three years later, President Clinton’s Department of Housing and Urban Development tried to impose a new regulation on Fannie, but was thwarted by Frank. Clinton now blames such Democrats for planting the seeds of today’s economic crisis.
"I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was president, to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac," Clinton said recently.

McCain has nothing to lose at this point by being aggressive. He needs to show the great middle why they should move to him.
Whenever a candidate is moving to the middle, he is giving ground.
McCain is now in a position where his only option left is to fight as if winning matters.

Gas stations have never fixed flats, but most serve cappuccino.

Girls in head scarves have always been part of the school fashion scene.
All have had a relative--or known about a friend's relative--who died comfortably at home with Hospice.
As a precursor to “whatever,” they have recognized that some people “just don’t get it.”
Universal Studios has always offered an alternative to Mickey in Orlando.
Grandma has always had wheels on her walker.
Martha Stewart Living has always been setting the style.

The Warsaw Pact is as hazy for them as the League of Nations was for their parents.

Clarence Thomas has always sat on the Supreme Court.
Schools have always been concerned about multiculturalism.

Balsamic vinegar has always been available in the U.S.
Macaulay Culkin has always been Home Alone.
Their parents may have watched The American Gladiators on TV the day they were born.
Personal privacy has always been threatened.
Caller ID has always been available on phones.
Living wills have always been asked for at hospital check-ins.

I truly believe that a lot of people are going to get into that voting booth, linger, and then vote for McCain. You don't vote for an untested person in times like these. It may go down to the wire, but I still believe McCain's got a good chance--he's been in politics so long that all the dirt on him is already known, while there's still time to make the country aware of the hard-core liberal Obama is.

The local news tonight starts with:
Governor Sarah Palin Abused Her Power...
That is what a report from a bipartisan panel in Alaska concluded...Then they go to a short stringer report from Alaska and then conclude with:
But, the report also said she did nothing illegal and the firing was completely within her power as Governor...What the hell does that mean?
The insanity continues...
It means they can report whatever the hell they want and there's not shit we can do about it. Of course we see the manipulation but the undecided, unengaged ones among us - the ones that ultimately decide the election, the ones who are swayed by the last thing they see on TV before they head out the door to vote - they do get influenced by this.....sheesh.
The media is actively undermining our electoral process and they do it with impunity. They are domestic enemies and it burns the hell out of me that they get away with it.

Gas stations have never fixed flats, but most serve cappuccino.
Their parents may have dropped them in shock when they heard George Bush announce “tax revenue increases.” 1987 was late Reagan, thankfully.

Under water grottos, caverns
Filled with apes

Stepping on the figs

Eat, they crunch.

Their fangs, dance,
Tumble in the

Musty, wet pelts
Glistening in the blue.

No lie - it's the line that got him kicked off TV!
Ahhh... "You Bet Your Life" circa 1952... According to Wikipedia the exchange went like this: One hilarious response to a contestant who had over a dozen children brought down the house. In response to Marx asking in disbelief why she had so many children, the contestant replied "No, Groucho. You don't understand. I REALLY, REALLY love my husband.", to which Marx responded, "I love my cigar too, but I take it out of my mouth once in a while."

Is that about the worst "poetry" you've ever read in your life?
Note to Obama: Don't quit your day job, Barack - babbling your ass off and saying absolutely nothing is working for you, man.
An excerpt from "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.
"Vogon poetry is of course the third worst in the Universe.
The second worst is that of the Azagoths of Kria. During a recitation by their Poet Master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem "Ode To A Small Lump of Green Putty I Found In My Armpit One Midsummer Morning" four of his audience died of internal haemorrhaging, and the President of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived by gnawing one of his own limbs off. Grunthos is reported to have been "disappointed" by the poem's reception, and was about to embark on a reading of his twelve- book epic entitled "Zen And The Art Of Going To The Lavatory" when his own major intestine, in a desperate bid to save the universe, leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain.
The very worst poetry of all perished along with its creator, Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Greenbridge, Essex, England in the destruction of the planet Earth."

ACORN Fraud In Pennsylvania
Clarice Feldman
The American Spectator documents huge vote registration fraud in Pennsylvania:
A retired Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice says that she is "not confident we can get a fair election" in the state come November.
Justice Sandra Newman, accompanied by Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico and Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Robert Gleason, expressed her concerns at a Harrisburg press conference this morning. A thick document replete with photo copies of phony registrations and aerial shots of vacant lots used as "addresses" for "voters" was handed out to journalists.
Gleason was even more explicit.
"Between March 23rd and October 1st, various groups, including ACORN, submitted over 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County Election Board" with 57, 435 rejected for faulty information. "Most of these registrations were submitted by ACORN, and rejected due to fake social security numbers, incorrect dates of birth, clearly fraudulent signatures, addresses that do not exist, and duplicate registrations. In one case, a man was registered to vote more than 15 times since the Primary election.
---
This is just unbelievable. Hollywood libs, media bias, and academic twaddle are one thing. But right under our nose the left has rotted out our financial system via subprime loan, and undermined the most precious cornerstone of our constitutional republic: free and fair elections.
"Not confident we can get a fair election in the state come November."
Read it and weep.

Well, my experience has proven otherwise on reliability, but it is a limited sample.
I once demonstrated the size difference of the 9mm and .45 cartridges by dropping an empty 9mm casing into a .45 casing. I'd rather have a .45 over 9mm, but I wouldn't worry about only having a 9mm.

Fascinating. From Obamapedia.org:
POP
Sitting in his seat, a seat broad and broken
In, sprinkled with ashes,
Pop switches channels, takes another
Shot of Seagrams, neat, and asks
What to do with me, a green young man
Who fails to consider the
Flim and flam of the world, since
Things have been easy for me;
I stare hard at his face, a stare
That deflects off his brow;
I'm sure he's unaware of his
Dark, watery eyes, that
Glance in different directions,
And his slow, unwelcome twitches,
Fail to pass.
I listen, nod,
Listen, open, till I cling to his pale,
Beige T-shirt, yelling,
Yelling in his ears, that hang
With heavy lobes, but he's still telling
His joke, so I ask why
He's so unhappy, to which he replies...
But I don't care anymore, cause
He took too damn long, and from
Under my seat, I pull out the
Mirror I've been saving; I'm laughing,
Laughing loud, the blood rushing from his face
To mine, as he grows small,
A spot in my brain, something
That may be squeezed out, like a
Watermelon seed between
Two fingers.
Pop takes another shot, neat,
Points out the same amber
Stain on his shorts that I've got on mine, and
Makes me smell his smell, coming
From me; he switches channels, recites an old poem
He wrote before his mother died,
Stands, shouts, and asks
For a hug, as I shrink, my
Arms barely reaching around
His thick, oily neck, and his broad back; 'cause
I see my face, framed within
Pop's black-framed glasses
And know he's laughing too.

I wrote a lot of pretentious crap poetry back in the day, but, damn. Man has daddy issues.

I honestly think part of what ACORN seeks to do, in addition to putting in place a mechanism with which to steal the election for Obama should the results be close, is to undermine our confidence in elections in general. It's not unlike what they're attempting to do with the economy. They're trying to get us to conclude that our system no longer works, at any level.
What can be done to repair this damage BEFORE November 4th? Anything? Is our confidence in THIS election already undermined? I am seriously thinking it is.

Evil Clown
He wears those flappy floppy shoes
And those billowy bright clothes
And a big red ball like Rudolph’s
Perched on the tip of his nose
He sports those huge and shiny teeth
Which resemble piano keys
And a massive string of handkerchiefs
To catch his clowny sneeze
He wears a bulky jacket
Filled with all kinds of tricks
Which he whips out with his fat white hands
As he plays his clowny shtick
He has a flower tucked into
His much too wide lapel
If you get too close to smell it
He’ll drench you all to hell
And he wears a buzzer in his palm
That shocks you when you shake
And a bucket of confetti
That over your head he’ll rake
He drives around in his weird little car
With his loud brass honky horn
And is always either smiling
Or else comically forlorn
He has that frizzy hair that floats
Around his balding head
With his whole face hued fish belly white
He looks more than faintly dead
Under piles of pancake makeup
Caked from forehead down to throat
And all his features are painted on
In suffocating coats
You can never tell what he’s thinking
Or exactly what he’ll do
But if you do it with him
The joke will be on you
If you chance to meet him
Beware what he’s about
For Clowny just might getcha
Ifnya don’t watch out
The chap is vaguely sinister
With his creepy clowny grin
And those beady little clowny eyes
That threaten to suck you in
He's positively eerie
Some have dreaded to behold
His spooky painted visage
Since they were two years old
Some kids from the beginning
See him as a Boogey Man
And who’s to say that they’re not right
If he’s more than their dreams can stand?
Hollywood knows he’s chilling
It doesn’t surprise a bit
That when Stephen King needed a monster
He made an evil clown IT
Some people think it’s funny
That other folks fear clowns
But remember John Wayne Gacy:
Guard up, and comments down.

I'm so glad you're making some progress, dentistry-wise. I will most likely be in town the weekend of Halloween, my best friend and I are taking the kids trick or treating in her awesome neighborhood, then having a party for the parents and kids. I can't decide between 80s or Goth for a costume. 80s would be easier and cheaper (it's actually expensive to dress Goth if you don't already have the clothes LOL) but I'm afraid I'd just look like a fat mom trying to relive the "glory days". Some had it, some didn't. The ones that did had the "slide rule" sight on the top like a Mauser Broomhandle. They are generally pricier than the ones without as there weren't as many of them made (somebody figured out that 300 yard shots with a pistol caliber were next to worthless LOL) especially later in the war, so they have a higher collector value than the ones without.
Speaking of Broomhandles, they seem to have dropped in price recently. I've seen several really nice ones for rather affordable prices at some of the fun shows I've been to lately. Not as many Star Wars nerds wanting to have a "Han Solo blaster" anymore? I remember just a few years ago even real beaters were going for ridiculous prices and a Broomhandle collector I met told me it was because of "Star Wars" fans buying them.

One last rant before I go to bed......
Michigan was treated like a buck toothed bitch during the democratic primary.
The state was marginalized by D'oh! and Hillary, owning to the fact that Michigan gets no respect for its political clout. (which is marginal anyway)
A democratic state....led by democrats.......in deep dookie......

soros has the money but keeping the required permits for each jurisdiction for each guard would be an interesting task in itself. Or does the local police get stuck with the duty of protecting soros instead of protecting local citizens? If local police, then does he get charged for it instead of it being the local taxpayer dime?

As a early morning mental excercise: Imagine how an Obama administration would apply the doctrines of Hope and Change to the following situation
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is ready to drop North Korea from a terrorism blacklist, the Associated Press has learned, in the latest attempt by the administration to salvage a nuclear deal with Pyongyang before President Bush's term ends.
The act of striking North Korea from the list of countries said to be perpetrating terrorists acts could come as early as Saturday, now that Bush has approved it, say diplomats briefed on the initiatives pressing the North to abandon its atomic weapons program.
The removal would be only provisional, officials said, and North Korea would be put back on the State Department's "state sponsors of terrorism" list if it doesn't comply with inspections of its nuclear facilities. The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because the administration has not yet announced the step.

I'm sorry...I thought you were referring to Obama...it seems you were speaking of Soros (or Moyers)...in that case I do not know...but Soros can afford a small (or even a large) army to protect him...perhaps what is left of Saddam's Republican Guard?
I was thinking the Fighting Uruk-Hai.
The only problem with whacking Soros is, he probably has some sort of "insurance policy"...if he gets whacked, some sort of trade or deal will be automatically put into effect that will really f*** up the economy.
But maybe I've just seen too many Bond films.

Okay, I have a logistic question, having just read this.
How do they get 1/2 million fake votes out of their 1/2 million fake registrations?
I don't know how they work. But I do know that voter fraud tied to 0bama is not going to go over well with people in this country. The vast majority of us are honest and vote once like we're supposed to. If American feel that their vote is going to be worthless thanks to fraud, that undermines our very system. This is bad ju-ju for team 0bama. From your ink:
Asked whether the Pennsylvania State Democratic Party had come forward to work with the GOP on the ACORN voter fraud issue, Gleason tersely shook his head. One source did say that much of the impetus for the fraud was "an Obama effort," as opposed to the Democratic Party as an institution.
This is bad news- for 0bama, but also for us. How are we supposed to trust our votes matter. Americans will NOT like this.

The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal ruled yesterday that a controversial article about Islam in Maclean's magazine did not violate the province's hate speech law, marking the third time this year the Canadian Islamic Congress has failed in its efforts to force the magazine to print a rebuttal.
In dismissing the complaint, the three-member tribunal ruled that the article by Mark Steyn, which was published in 2006 and described the demographic and ideological dangers posed by a growing Muslim population in the West, was not likely to expose Muslims to hatred or contempt.

The worst thing isn't that people don't so much care, it's that they seem to almost completely rely on 3rd parties to tell them the truth and have very little in the way of deductive reasoning. It extends to their personal lives well beyond their thoughts on government, which doesn't bode well for the future.

Iran calls for halting oil price slide
Published: 10.11.08, 10:15 / Israel News
Iran's oil minister, Gholam Hossein Nozari, is calling for stability in the oil market, saying the biggest challenge now is falling demand for oil due to global economic recession.
Nozari told reporters Saturday that stability in the oil market is important both for producers and consumers. The stunning collapse in oil markets accelerated Friday, sending a barrel of crude plunging below $78. (AP)

Everyone here says I should run for President, not necessarily because of my views, but I guess just because I give a damn and when I speak about things, they have no idea what I'm talking about so it sounds smart.

It's not even about moonbattish. People here just have no clue about anything. At least moonbats have their views and they know WHY they have their views. Some people I talk to are so utterly clueless. I've only heard ONE person articulate their reasoning for voting for Obama and that guy's basically a socialist anyway. The rest are completely lost.

Apple Computer reported today that it has developed computer chips that can be implanted and play music inside women's breasts. The music is in stereo, of course.
This is considered to be a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts, and not listening to them.

I've only heard ONE person articulate their reasoning for voting for Obama and that guy's basically a socialist anyway. The rest are completely lost.
I think it's more likely that even the ones that can't articulate why they are going to vote for him are socialists with a little "S" as well and just aren't aware of it.
Jefferson was aware that the form of government that he wanted, with a free market, a small government and as much power for the individual over their own life as possible while maintaining a State capable of guaranteeing those freedoms wasn't one that lended itself naturally to mankinds social instincts and required both education and vigilance to preserve.
That education and vigilance is gone, and we are going to back running into the arms of the most powerful Tribal Chieftans that we can find in the Socialist Nannystate, as it is what people have been doing for time untold. Of course what was once just barbarian Tribalism is now being repackaged for the new millenium as "Progressive" and sold as something new for even those that are politically aware, yet historically inept.

So they asked 3 different voters, "Do you support Obama because of his pro-life position or because he wants to keep the troops in Iraq till we win the war?" And they answered like, "Well, both, yeah, I think both positions are important, I agree with Obama on those."
And they asked, "How do you feel about Sarah Palin? Are you okay with Obama picking her for his running mate? Do you think Sarah Palin will be a good VP if Obama is elected?" And they answered, "Yeah, sure, I support Obama on Palin, I tjhink he was right to choose her for his running mate."

No, what I was going to say was I hosted her son and his GF here for a few days in August. What a nice young couple. Even like, "old fashioned" polite. Very nice people, good houseguests. Really a pleasure.
When they left here, they were headed down to DC for a few days before going out to LA. I don't think they were planning any time in Philly, though.
You know, when one of my sons was in Australia for a summer internship, aussiemagpie met him at the airport, took him under her wing, put him up at her house and then at a friend's, took him around sightseeing. Rezko is squealing like a pig.
Rezko also was friendly with Obama - offering him a job when he finished law school, funding his earliest political campaigns and purchasing a lot next to his house. But based on the known facts, charges so far and testimony at Rezko's trial, there's no indication there'll be an October surprise that could hurt the Democratic presidential nominee - even though Rezko says prosecutors are pressing him for dirt about Obama.
"I think this strikes fear into the Blagojevich administration and the Statehouse Democrats but not into the Obama campaign," says state Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-Westmont, a John McCain delegate to the GOP convention but an old friend of Obama.

Why Ayers Matters
by Michael Reagan
To listen to the Obama spin-masters you’d think that the McCain campaign’s questioning of their candidate’s association with unrepentant terrorist bomber Bill Ayers is a smear tactic falsely elevating a casual relationship between the two men into one where they worked together in promoting Ayers’ far-left goals.Their reaction to the continuing revelations that disprove that claim is one of sheer panic -- and they have a good reason to be scared witless that any in-depth probe of what went on between the two comrades will reveal Obama’s true colors -- all of them dark red!
If the truth becomes better known -- and it will if the Ayers issue is doggedly pursued -- it will be clear that Obama was not only deeply immersed the fetid swamp of Chicago’s far-left political scene, but was from the very beginning of his career carefully groomed by the city’s socialist left to follow the path he’s on now in his quest for the presidency of the United States.
Giving credence to the charge that Obama was “groomed by an older generation of radical leftists for insertion into the American political process, trading on good looks, brains, educational pedigree, and the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to right the historical racial wrongs of the [past]” as the American Thinkers’ Thomas Lifson has written:
• Obama belonged to the socialist New Party, described by Lifson as “a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far-left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left.” A March 22, 1998 article by John Nichols in These Times revealed, “After six years, the party has built what is arguably the most sophisticated left-leaning political operation the country has seen since the decline of the Farmer-Labor, Progressive and Non-Partisan League groupings of the early part of the century.”
• Obama has been allied with ACORN and their Project Vote, the radical leftist group now charged with massive vote fraud aimed at electing Barack Obama president of the United States. Obama has long been directly involved with ACORN. An article by Toni Foulkes of ACORN, “Case Study: Chicago-The Barack Obama Campaign,” which appeared in Social Policy magazine in 2004, Foulkes revealed ACORN noticed Obama when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. Wrote Foulks: “He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois’ refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act … Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar … and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them). Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office.”...

Non-defeatists will find this interesting:
Acorn article proves Obama trained Acorn leaders
Obama's campaign website states:
Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.
Is that really a FACT, or just another lie? Let's take a look at a quote from a 2004 article - Case Study: Chicago- The Barack Obama Campaign - written by Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN Leader, which was published in the journal Social Policy. Did we mention that Social Policy recently pulled this particular article from their website, while leaving links to all other articles up?
"Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5,000 of them).
Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for STate Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends."
Not only does Foulkes boast of Obama's ACORN leadership training, but also makes it clear that Obama's post-law school organizing of "Project VOTE" in 1992 was undertaken in direct partnership with ACORN. The tie between Project VOTE and ACORN is also something that Obama and others have attempted to disprove in recent weeks as ACORN has come under fire for allegations of voter registration fraud.
As recently as March 2008, the Los Angeles Times also made reference to Barack Obama's involvement with ACORN:
"At the time, Talbot worked at the social action group ACORN and initially considered Obama a competitor. But she became so impressed with his work that she invited him to help train her staff." (LA Times, March 2, 2008)
All this information was easily pulled up with minimal time investment. It took less than thirty minutes to find, despite attempts by some to bury the truth. If I could find this with little effort, imagine what could be dug up with a serious, in-depth investigation. Scary, isn't it?
Nevertheless, Barack Obama's campaign website continues to lie and deny the truth about his involvement and association with ACORN. No matter how many times you say it, it does not make it true. The facts do not lie, Senator Obama. It's time to come clean and tell the truth, and it's time for the American people to demand it.
***Update: A person who left a comment on the story below (thank you) has notified us that the Obama website has changed. We have done a follow up story that can be read following this link Here is our follow up story:

I just posted the McCain ACORN ad on my Facebook.
I have an odd gripe with some of McCain's ads....the announcer. That female announcer they use most of the time is really annoying. I find myself wincing when she says things like 'so disrespectful'. She sometimes sounds like a parody of someone trying to sound authoratative. I don't know if they think women will be more likely to sit through the ad with a female voice..and the fact that she's female isn't my problem with her...it's her voice, the inflection. Replace her.

As the Dow plummeted nearly 700 points yesterday to fall well below the 9,000 mark, the Iraqi stock exchange -where this broker was merrily keeping up with her booming business - was flourishing, buoyed by four-year lows in violence and hopes of a reconstruction windfall.
Last month, Iraq's general index went up nearly 40 percent, about the same percentage the Dow dropped over the past year. The jovial trading-floor mood is reminiscent of Wall Street's bygone "greed is good" era of the 1980s.

...The paperback America Alone includes a new introduction by Mark looking at some of the reaction to the book since it first appeared - while in The Tyranny Of Nice Kathy Shaidle and Pete Vere examine the more litigious ends of that reaction, and shine a long overdue spotlight on the disgusting activities of Canada's "human rights" commissions. Aside from Shaidle and Vere's trenchant expose of the Canadian state's assault on liberty, The Tyranny Of Nice also includes a special introduction by Mark reflecting on his own travails over the last year.Whatever they were intended as, the Canadian Islamic Congress lawsuits were a vindication of the twin themes of America Alone - a resurgent Islam, and the west's loss of civilizational confidence. So The Tyranny Of Nice makes a perfect companion to the new paperback of America Alone.

AIG CLARIFIES AGENT MEETING
NEW YORK, October 8, 2008 –American International Group, Inc. (AIG) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Edward M. Liddy sent a letter today to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson to clarify the circumstances of a business event held by an AIG subsidiary, discussed during an October 7, 2008 hearing by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
The event, mischaracterized as an “Executive Retreat,” was held by one of AIG’s insurance subsidiaries for independent life insurance agents, not for AIG employees. These agents were top business producers for the company, and of the more than 100 attendees, only 10 were employees of the AIG subsidiary who were there to represent their company. No AIG executives from headquarters attended. The meeting was planned months before the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s loan to AIG.
In his letter, Mr. Liddy assured Secretary Paulson that AIG now faces very different challenges, and “that we owe our employees and the American public new standards and approaches.” Mr. Liddy assured Secretary of the Treasury Paulson that AIG is “reevaluating the costs of all aspects of our operations in light of the new circumstances in which we are all operating.”
Mr. Liddy concluded, that “AIG is focused on doing what is necessary to address our capital structure, repay the Fed credit facility and emerge as a healthy global insurer. In the meantime, our insurance businesses continue to operate normally and satisfy the needs of our policy holders.”
# # #
American International Group, Inc. AIG's common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, as well as the stock exchanges in Ireland and Tokyo.

Sometimes I wish McCain would follow the same advice and just shut up. Oh why, WHY, can't he learn to say what he needs to say while spinning it to his advantage? He didn't have to say Obama is a "decent man" or that we "don't have to be afraid" of an Obama Presidency. He knows full that Obama is less than decent and that we have plenty to fear from a President Obama. You can tell from the way he turned away from that lady that he knew he wasn't being completely honest with her about how he feels about Obama.
All he had to say was, "We don't need to be making threats or spreading wild rumors. The facts about my opponent are damaging enough. Let's just stick to those."

Ya got a point. People are angry. Really angry. I kinda understand why McCain said what he did. Kinda. To some he may seem to be caving, but nobody in the media is being fair-minded either. If I watched any TV (which I don't), I'd probably be soaking up all this good angst that's flowing over the waves as well. The clips I've seen on the web of some of McCain's crowds and the people who are speaking to him are no less 'angry' than I am. It seems to me that if McCain actually encouraged the anger the media would use it against him and so would obama. We'd probably have a Dean moment if he really let go. We don't need that - I don't think. We just have to remain resolved, pound the ground, refute the errors, point out the glaring lack of sound judgment on the part of obama, and let our votes do the talking.

...The solutions being implemented also send the message that resources devoted to risk management are wasted. All of these plans reward the financial institutions that acted like lemmings by chasing the mortgage-related debt bubble rather than rewarding the financial institutions that exercised restraint and risk avoidance and independent thought and action. This unfortunate "heads Wall Street Wins, tails America loses" economic policy is wholly inconsistent with the principles of personal and corporate responsibility that are essential to a functional free market.Firms like Merrill Lynch that took decisive steps to deal with their problems now look like suckers, as do banks that watched their leverage ratios and paid diligently into a deposit insurance program that offers protection on a far smaller scale than their investment banking rivals are getting for nothing. ...

Good morning! The sun came out again! Hopefully everyone is refreshed and ready to take on the world. Looks like we are going to need to band together and figure out what to (legally) do with the ACORN gang and Obama's Band of Thieves as well as point out Palin tried to get a trooper fired who was drunk on the job (with a gun), tasered a 10 year old and threatened his father in law's life, yet the person at the center of the probe didn't have the sensibility to think this guy may, perchance, not be a suitable for continued employ as a State Trooper. Scandalous? Yes, but not in the way the Dems would like it too be.
Let me get some coffee, however, as that may have only made sense to moi!

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I see that the media is up to its usual tricks, headlining that there's an ethical violation in the whole Palin firing of a state worker who she was fully authorized to do under state law. No sanction against her, no violation of law, but a trumped up ethical charge - so that's how the media is playing it.
When Headlines and Facts Collide.
It isn't pretty.

Western Journalists in Iraq Stage Pullback of Their Own
BAGHDAD -- The number of foreign journalists in Baghdad is declining sharply, a media withdrawal that reflects Iraq's growing stability and the financial strains faced by some news organizations.
In a stark indication of the changing media focus here, the number of journalists traveling with American forces in Iraq has plummeted in the past year. U.S. military officials say they "embedded" journalists 219 times in September 2007. Last month, the number shrank to 39. Of the dozen U.S. newspapers and newspaper chains that maintained full-time bureaus in Baghdad in the early years of the war, only four are still permanently staffed by foreign correspondents. CBS and NBC no longer keep a correspondent in Baghdad year-round.
"It remains important and it remains interesting," said Alissa J. Rubin, the New York Times' acting bureau chief in Baghdad. "But what's in front of us now is almost a static situation. There's not a clear narrative line. The stories are more complex."
Veteran journalists say stories about Iraq, where roughly 155,000 U.S. troops are deployed and where the United States spends approximately $10 billion a month, have become tougher to get on the air and into print. News coverage that once centered largely on the U.S. military experience is shifting, like the country itself, to a story of Iraqis taking the halting, often mundane steps toward building their own government.
More than five years after the U.S.-led invasion, many of the most important stories in Iraq, such as debate over election laws and negotiations over the legal framework that will govern the presence of U.S. troops here after the United Nations mandate expires at the end of the year, are playing out incrementally and often behind closed doors.
Gen. David G. Perkins, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, said stories about violence get top billing. Less-sensational events, such as a recent voter-registration drive for the highly anticipated provincial elections expected early next year, go largely uncovered in the Western news media, he said.
"There are a lot of things going on, a lot of very complicated things going on. And to cover that, you really have to understand the details and the sophistication of it," Perkins said. "When you have a big explosion where 20 people die, it doesn't take much understanding of the intricacies of what's going on in the country to run out there with a camera and report that 20 people have been killed." ...

True.
I was just reading this...
The Government Is Contributing to the Panic
It's time to let markets do their messy work.
The problem I have with letting certain financial institutions just go belly-up is that people who had no control over how their pensions were handled will be the ones who lose it all.
What's the market equivalent of tar and feathers?

Bloated contracts, pensions, bad debts/toxic paper, and products that no one wants to buy.
Those are the four key problems facing both companies.
A merger wont solve the first two, the third might get reduced exposure, and wont solve bad product lines unless you're going to dump more brand names.

re: #843 Cap'n DOC
Good morning Cap'n! Uh, isn't that sorta the way Dole ran his "campaign"?!
I mean McCain needs to come right out in front of the American people and tell them, in a calm, coherent manner, what we know about Obama, ACORN, Ayers,
Rezco et.al. and etc. and he needs to do it NOW.
And btw, how come Obama breaks his promise to take Public Financing - as a result of which he gets to buy 30 minute blocks (2 so far as I know) of primetime TV - to talk about change and hope and the MSM isn't ALL over his ass for it? What kind of hope and change is it to throw out campaign finance reform? Much less take money from THOUSANDS of Americans in places like Iran, Syria, Tunisa etc.?
If any of the investigations are allowed and funded to continue post election (assuming Obama wins) I think we'll have to go back to the 19th century to find a presidential campaign that's more corrupt than has been Obama's so far.
