Austrian Fascist Leader Dies in Car Crash

World | Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 8:46:44 am PDT

Neo-fascist Austrian politician Joerg Haider has been killed in a car crash.

Austrian far-right politician Joerg Haider has been killed in a road accident, police reports say.

Haider died near Klagenfurt in Carinthia, his political stronghold. He was driving alone when his car came off the road and he suffered severe head and chest injuries, police told the Austrian APA news agency.

The 58-year-old was a former leader of the Austrian Freedom Party, and was known for his anti-immigration and anti-EU policies.

Police investigators in Klagenfurt told the BBC that investigations into the crash were under way.
He had reportedly been due to attend his mother’s 90th birthday celebrations later in the day.

“For us this is the end of the world,” the deputy leader of Haider’s Alliance for Austria’s Future, Stefan Petzner, told Austrian news agency, APA.

And for the rest of us, perhaps not such a bad thing that the Alliance should suffer so.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. I hope his party finds a new leader who leads them away from fascism to a sane conservative position.

I bought Bill Ayers' 2001 memoir, Fugitive Days, for reasons unrelated to this project. As I discovered, he writes surprisingly well and very much like "Obama." In fact, my first thought was that the two may have shared the same ghostwriter. Unlike Dreams, however, where the high style is intermittent, Fugitive Days is infused with the authorial voice in every sentence. What is more, when Ayers speaks, even off the cuff, he uses a cadence and vocabulary consistent with his memoir. One does not hear any of Dreams in Obama's casual speech.

hmmm - Why doesn't Obama speak like his books? meanwhile -Ayres does sound like his books. things that make you go hmmmm.
"just a guy in my neighborhood." sure.

I could not figure out why the Iranians were shipping nuke waste to the Eastern Med. This article figured it out: the whole ship was a radiological bomb. The ship would blow a cloud of nuclear waste over Israel and the entire region.

If the reports of the cargo's nature are proven, it means that Iran has been caught red-handed attempting to commit genocide.

While Israel would be within her rights to just nuke Iran for trying, Israel will not do so, but that in no way changes the bottom line- the Iranian regime has committed an egregious act a war crime of war crimes. For this, the Iran should be blockaded until the regime surrenders power or hands over her leaders to international judgment. The answer to can the Iranian regime be trusted with nuclear weapons is no. If their leaders are wiling to murder millions of Palestinians, Saudis, Egyptians, Iraqis, Lebanese and Jordanians (who knows where their little cloud would go?), then they are unfit to sit at the table of nations.

If I were the Iranians, I would be doing everything I could to get the pirates to sink that ship.

If the story is verified it may destroy Hamas: they have been in bed with the Iranians and their friendship was repaid with an attack that might have killed everyone in Gaza.

You're right.re: #88 der_ich

Where he was driving he was only allowed to drive 70 km/h (43.4 mph), apparently he was much faster. On the Austrian autobahn you can only drive 130 km/h anyway.

He might have been distracted by his cell phone, or swerved to avoid an animal, who knows? But I'd guess he was driving faster than 70 km/h. Maybe 90 km/h.

The accident is unfortunate because it gives zombie life to a movement that should die of rejection at the polls and ridicule in the marketplace of ideas.

The mainstream political parties open their nations to opportunistic infection by fascists, though, when they refuse to consider limiting immigration that, unchecked, has the potential to destabilize society. All sorts of aggressive and potentially lethal meme infections are possible when the political immune system shuts down.

Follow up on my comment above-

There have been multiple reports on the ship causing pirates to get sick.

Somali pirate have been in the news of late; they have been terrorizing the East African shipping lanes for the last few years, lately they have reached the point where they are completely out of hand. Traffic going between the MEd and Indian Oceans is being attacked.

We nee to know more:

what is on the ship?
where is the crew?
Where are its officers?

But most importantly, the one burning question that should cause us all to worry: ARE THERE ANY MORE OF THESE SHIPS OUT THERE?

Bomb ships could attack Japan, Europe, the US east or west coasts. Florida would be quite vulnerable.

The people whose business it is to worry about such things are doing just that. I would not be surprised to see every ship approaching the US side of the Atlantic being checked. While we were speculating about the US attacking Iran, people forgot the Iranians may have had a plan to attack us.

Note further, the sudden and precipitous drop in oil prices does, in some ways, force Iran's hand. With their revenue down, their ability to control their people is diminished- oil money is the fuel for the regime.

The MV Iran Deyanat departed Nanjing, China, July 28, and, according to its manifest, planned to sail to Rotterdam, where it would offload 42,500 tons of iron ore and "industrial products" purchased by an unidentified “ German client”. The ship has a crew of 29 men, including a Pakistani captain, an Iranian engineer, 13 other Iranians, 3 Indians, 2 Filipinos, and 10 Eastern Europeans, stated to be Albanians.

What a tangled web of deceit.

re: #166 Charles

No question on the 48 hour rule Charles. Even longer. We may never know for sure. If that ship is radioactive, the story will come out.

What cannot be argued are the implications if the story is true: Iran was attempting a radiological Pearl Harbor, probably on Israel but the ship could have been used against any Western coastal city.

If it was a bomb ship, the Ayatollahs had better pray the US or Israelis are not able to verify the cargo.

If there was a significant amount of radioactive material on the ship, where did it come from?

Did the Iranians buy some waste from the Chinese or North Koreans and then mix it with some kind of dirt or powder that is easy to disperse to the air in an explosion?

One thing is certain, the US ought to seize the ship to preserve the evidence. Because it was first taken by pirates, under the laws of the seas, we are permitted to board the vessel and take it.

At the very least, if the ship is contaminated, it poses a unique environmental hazard. The only safe way to dispose of the ship is take it to the deepest waters and sink it.

This is the stuff of nightmares.

According to an emigre group, NCRI, which is opposed to the Tehran regime, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (aka Pasdaran) controls 30 percent of Iran's non-petroleum exports and more than half of Iran's imports. (WashTimes, 10-28-07)

The Iran Devant is very likely under the control of the Pasdaran, and most likely under the control of the Pasdaran's Qods Force.

The Qods Force reports directly to Khamenei.

Doveryái, no proveryái -- "Trust, but verify." (It rhymes in Russian!)

Incidentally, just FYI, you can prevent the LGF hamsters from splitting up long strings of Cyrillic and other non-Latin characters by sticking in an empty italics or bold tag with nothing inside it -- e.g.:

довер < i > < /i > яй

(Only type it without any spaces -- sheesh, fuckin' hamsters.)

Which displays as:

доверяй

(Generally speaking, I believe, the hamsters don't like more than five non-Latin characters in a continuous row -- but putting an empty tag into the middle of longer words, as demonstrated, confuses them.)

This accident is actually bad news. As I said last night:

Hmmm...

There are two major rightwing parties in Austria. They got about 30% of the vote combined, but the leaders of the two parties hated each other... and that was going to keep them from forming a formidable alliance.

Now that impediment is gone...

Hmmm...

This will eventually strengthen the far right in Austria.

And by the way, the root common to these similar-looking Russian words is вера (ra) -- meaning "faith." I have no idea if it's ultimately an Indo-European cognate with the Latin vera, a feminine adjective form meaning "true," or if the resemblance is coincidental.

As with the English "faith," the Russian vera can also be a girl's name when capitalized. Thus, the 1988 Soviet movie Little Vera -- noteworthy for what was, in CCCP terms, shockingly candid sex, though it's a snooze by our standards -- has a punning title, which can be interpreted as either ''the little girl named Faith'' or "a paucity of faith." (This double meaning is commented on by a character in the movie, lest any audience member miss it.)

I won't shed any tears over him. I would say, "His poor mother", but who knows, maybe she's a Nazi sympathizer?

Not a sympathizer! She and her husband always have been and she is down to the present day a staunch and proud Nazi.

Haider's party BZOE and Strache's party FPOE had close ties to Saddam Hussein and both have also close ties to Iran and Libya.

Look what kind of t-shirts Strache wore during the election campaign

BZOE and FPOE are promoting more socialism not less but only for Austrians. Haider as governor of Carinthia implemented so much socialism that Carinthia is nearly bankrupt.

btw: Haider had a similar accident in 1993 with a white BMW which he survived nearly uninjured. He was a very, very fast driver and loved sportcars

He was able to afford such cars b'cause of the from a Jewish family stolen Baerental

As long as I'm going OT about the russkii yazyk, a few months ago I came across this rather crude humor page aimed at Russian Jews (and/or Russian "Jews" of questionable halachic status) who've resettled in Israel.

At lot of the humor is based on the fact that many Hebrew words coincidentally sound like cussing to Russian ears, and the best joke concerns an emigre named Fëdor Ivanov who has to be admitted to the hospital because of vodka-related complications. (Imagine that!) Note, by the way, that Fëdor Ivanov is a perfectly commonplace Russian name and is equivalent to "Theodore Johnson."

Of course the Israeli nurse writes his name on the chart using Hebrew letters. Alas, after "Fëdor Ivanov" is hebraicized according to standard Cyrillic-to-Hebrew transliteration rules, the Israeli doctor making his rounds quite naturally pronounces the patient's name as "Pidor Yebanov" -- which, to a Russian, sounds just like Faggot McFuck.

Chaos ensues!

(Yeah, I know this'll be pretty obscure to most people, but I just love saying "Faggot McFuck.")

re: #92 Ayatollah Ghilmeini

I've been saying all along it was radiation poisoning, and probably a dirty bomb. I had expected an attack elsewhere, in a Western port, but this makes a lot of sense.
If confirmed, it would justify an immediate attack on Iran, including possibly a nuclear attack.
Maybe the Russians know this, and it could explain why they are now saying they will not sell advanced anti-aircraft missiles to Iran.

But the fact this isn't in the MSM says a lot; it should be the most important story.
And if it had gone off, there would be pictures of dying paliterrorists, and articles bemoaning how the Muslims could no longer pray at the mosques on the Temple Mount, and very little about dying Jews.

Interesting how G-d takes care of His people, and gets to punish some pirates at the same time.

"Mr. Haider’s death has led to an outpouring of emotion hardly ever seen in Austria, compared by some observers to the swell of mourning in Britain after Princess Diana’s death in 1997. Mr. Petzner, 27, openly wept on Austrian television recalling how he had said goodbye on Friday night to his boss. Gerhard Dörfler, Mr. Haider’s deputy and now the acting governor of Carinthia, said, “The sun has fallen from the sky.”
Condolences rushed in from across the political spectrum. President Heinz Fischer, a Social Democrat, called Mr. Haider a “politician of great talent,” and said he was “deeply affected” by the news."

He was beloved by the people in his country, even his enemies, but he was reviled as a Nazi. Doesn't add up. Perhaps the pejorative labels were attempts to discredit him and not really representative of who he was. Reminds me of all we hear about Palin, if we read the liberal media we'd think she was quite loathsome as well.

The Libyan Connection

On June 28, 2000, the Times of London reported that Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi had ordered the deposit of $25 million into a bank in Carinthia, the Austrian province governed by Jorg Haider, de facto leader of the far-right Freedom Party. (The Freedom Party is an immigrant-bashing organization that is home to many neo-Nazis and former Nazis and has downplayed German war atrocities.) Col. Ghaddafi's cash gift - which Haider described as "Christmas for Austria" - was meant to ease the strain of sanctions imposed on Austria by the European Union after the Freedom Party joined Austria's national governing coalition.

This was the second rabbit Haider pulled from his hat as a result of two private forays to Tripoli, where he met Ghaddafi. After his first Libyan excursion, Haider announced he was tackling Austria's high gas prices by arranging for Libyan gasoline to be sold in Carinthia at a discount. News photos showed Haider, the Porsche-driving populist, beaming as he pumped gas for motorists.

Over the years, Ghaddafi has been wooed by several neofascist leaders, including Italian fugitive Stefano delle Chiaie, who was accused of masterminding a series of bomb attacks in Rome and Milan. Described in a 1982 cia report as "the most prominent rightist terrorist " still at large," delle Chiaie wrote a letter to Ghadaffi, inviting him to join in a common struggle against "atheistic Soviet Marxism and American capitalist materialism," both of which were supposedly controlled by "international Zionism." Delle Chiaie added: "Libya can, if it wants, be the active focus, the center of national socialist renovation [that will] break the chains which enslave people and nations."

Interesting, but a little on the far-fetched side. The fact that it comes from Russian sources automatically makes it suspect, too.

Much (all)? of the Oct 6 story here (see #92)

On August 21st, 2008, the MV Iran Deyant, 44,458 dead weight bulk carrier was heading towards the Suez Canal. As it was passing the Horn of Africa, about 80 miles southeast of al-Makalla in Yemen, the ship was surrounded by speedboats filled with members of a gang of Somalian pirates who grab suitable commercial ships and hold them and their cargos and crews for ransom. The captain was defenseless against the 40 pirates armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades blocking his passage. He had little choice other than to turn his ship over to them. What the pirates were not banking on, however, was that this was no ordinary ship.

If some people are minimizing the nazis and the ever-growing European (and probably American) neo-nazis, then what has been learned in my lifetime? I was born in 1938, and obviously did not become aware of the evil until I was about 7 years old, safe and sound in a Boston suburb, while my grandparents' zt'l families HY"D were burning in the ovens, or starving to death.

Charles has posted so many threads on the subject, sounding an alert to what is happening, as we sit, a very few totally unaware, un-caring, in a state of denial, or just thinking that it will just go away.

If this is how it is, while survivors are still here to bear witness, then what will it be like by the year 2050? I shudder to think.

Re dirty bomb freighter story, it resembles this fictional story:

Where We Live
By Daniel J. Pinney

18 February 2008
Excerpts:

My parents grew up in Beirut. My father, educated at Oxford, returned home to teach at the American University there, receiving a tenured position as a professor of world history in 2021. My mother was a schoolteacher, and his childhood sweetheart from the old neighborhood. She died, giving birth to me, in 2030. I was named after the street in Cairo where I was conceived, during their honeymoon.
[snip]

On the last day of July of that year, a tramp freighter sailing under Liberian flag anchored in the harbor at Netanya and, on an afternoon when a cool, steady wind was blowing in off the sea, detonated a cargo of high explosive heavily laced with plutonium dust, a textbook "dirty bomb." Three days later, having determined from a careful review of satellite telemetry that the vessel's previous port of call had been the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, Israel's Knesset issued a statement condemning the Lebanese state and Hizb Allah for perpetrating this monstrous act, or at least allowing it to happen. Beirut and the Party of God each issued denials, and expressions of regret at the atrocity, but to no avail. Israel retaliated by launching two medium-range missiles with small nuclear payloads, confirming at last their nuclear arsenal to the world. The first missile obliterated Tyre; the second blew a radioactive crater half a kilometer wide in the southern precincts of Beirut that had long been reputed to be Hizb Allah's stronghold in the capital. With the state's blessing, Hizb Allah retaliated, firing two Iranian-made ship-to-shore missiles carrying mustard gas from small boats that hid beneath the radioactive cover afforded by the fallout hanging over Tyre. Those missiles decimated the populations of Haifa and Tiberias, or those who had not yet had the sense, or the means, to flee. In a matter of days, southern Lebanon and northern Israel descended into a chaos from which neither would ever emerge.

Following up on #206:

I have no idea how "blue" came to be a rather obscure slang code for "male homosexual," and after Googling, I still don't know. There's a slightly famous (in gay circles) short story called "Am I Blue?" in which all the world's homos magically turn Smurf-colored for a day, but that was from the mid-'90s, while the gay-pr0n mag Blueboy goes back to 1975.

In Russian, golubói (denoting "light-to-medium shades of blue") is mainstream, universally-understand slang for male homosexuals, but I have no idea whether it has a historical link with the English codeword, or if the two usages emerged independently.

This English-language page about the Russian slang term says that the origins/rationale for goluboi aren't proven, either -- though possibly it derives from homosexuality being perceived as an affliction that mainly strikes milquetoast aristocrats (in Russian, as in English, members of the upper-crust were traditionally said to be "blue-blooded").

215 roberth  Sat, Oct 11, 2008 1:18:06pm

I wish Charles wouldn't use the term fascist for every right wing extremist/nut. It just plays into the hands of the left who have sold the idea that fascism is a right wing phenomenon when it has historically been imposed by left wing politicians such as Mussolini, Hitler, and Woodrow Wilson.

It is true that the left have this Pavlovian impulse to brand anyone they politically hate, a "Nazi". Arguments are branded "racist" and countries are branded "apartheid". To a group of people juiced to the gils on their own cultural sensitivity, calling someone a racist is the ultimate slur. Doing so also stiffles any debate.

You are right that we should watch out for "truths" adopted from left wing attack dogs, and hell - enough of them would call Charles a Nazi and you and I a Nazi for reading his blog.

But there's a difference between rejecting the casual "Nazi" slur for anyone right of Livingstone, and calling the BNP, Vlaams & Haider "Neo-Nazis". I mean just because the left throws the terms around, that doesn't mean they are always wrong.

Haider was a Neo-Nazi - sure a new flavour, but at heart the same extremism. The same threat. We need the moderates to speak out against Islamofascism. The moderates need to steal the agenda from the NeoNazis.

I thought it might have actually been a Lexus, but, searching blogs, I found out that it's a Volkswagen Phaeton, which, I suppose, is appropriate considering whom the founder of Volkswagen was, and came across this doozy which indeed is blaming the J00Z.

Heider was father of two girls and was happily married with his wife, and he was coming from his mother’s birthday parties riding to home at speed of maximum 30 mph. And we are supposed to believe that he died because he lost control of his car that is most modern car Germany has ever built? Heider had never had any tickets for speeding or any other crimes. Mossad had spied him, paid one of his aides to deliver information about Heider’s activities to Israel. Oddly this spy was never punished, because Jewish judge decided that there was no crime.

Haider may have been a general scumbag, but I'm pretty sure he never literally fit into the above three categories. But I do concur with some of the early statements - if his movement dies with him, that would not be a bad thing.
