Iran Sets Preconditions for US Meeting

World | Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 8:51:49 am PDT

Barack Obama may intend to meet with Iran without preconditions (yes, he did say it, no matter how often he tries to deny it now), but Iran isn’t granting Obama the same courtesy: Iran’s Vice President Sets Two Preconditions for Talks with US.

They’re very simple conditions, really. Just remove all US forces from the Middle East, and abandon Israel to the wolves.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Vice President for Media Affairs Mehdi Kalhor said on Saturday that Iran has set two preconditions for holding talks with the United States of America.

In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency, he said as long as U.S. forces have not left the Middle East region and continues its support for the Zionist regime, talks between Iran and U.S. is off the agenda.

It is the Americans who are in dire need of reestablishing ties with Iran, he underlined.

Iran is not obliged to reestablish ties with the U.S., he said. “If they take our advice, grounds for such talks would be well prepared,” he said.

We all know that the polls showing Obama up by double digits are bullshit, and the numbers have been skewed. We all know the media is in the tank for Obama and have already declared him the winner.

Now the latest trick is to tell us sheep that McCain has conceded - just because he asked a few batshit crazy supporters to lighten up a bit.

And many are falling for this tactic. Tell us enough times that McCain is done and I guess it comes true right?

Don't fall for it!

It aint done yet. Get the word out on who Obama really is. Every day I hear stories about people on the left who do not know about Ayers, Rezko, and the 27 other scandals surrounding Obama.

Get the word out.

26 Reluctant Democrat  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 9:05:31am

I think someone should ask Obama what his response is to this overture by Iran. How about at the debate?

27 webrider  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 9:05:33am

Obama will just be another Jimmy Carter, only further left (hard to imagine, isn't it?) He'll wring his hands, the NYT will praise his forebearance and cool way he avoids rushing to judgment etc. End result, we'll see reinvigorated Islamic Jihadism (remember, always remember, Osama bin Laden's "strong horse") because they will be emboldened by his apparent (and real) lack of principle and strength. Jimmy Carter was perceived as weak, because he was. Indecisive and vacillating. Obama has been that and more, never taking a position which could come back to show him for what he is. Voting present to avoid the possible criticism of being "wrong". He IS a moral coward and NO leader. I just hope we can survive two years of Democrats in power in the white house and congress before we get a chance to throw some of them out.

Absolutely!

The best thing McCain can do is come out and call Obama a fraud. Mention the ACORN scandal that is right now blowing up. Mention the fact he has not accomplished one damn thing, other than organize people to vote for a fraud. He had the audacity to write TWO memoirs with nothing on his record.

It is also up to us, you and me, to help McCain! Obama has rabid supporters who are taking to the streets. That is the difference.

We need to get the truth out there.

I have been trying to locate a McCain/Palin or GOP campaign headquarters in Manhattan where I can volunteer. I called the GOP state headquarters in some 516 area code number (which is Long Island), no one even picked up the phone. My emailing has gone unanswered. When I went through all the ghastly menus at the McCain website, all I got was that whatever "volunteer" positions were available in my zip code were already full up. I'll call national headquarters next.

Ya gotta admit. It's pretty discouraging.

They had one foolish generation in response to the cost of meeting a challenge and then rose to a challenge again. Their subsequent decline while sad was excusable in that they really did not have the resources and did have America to lean on. The US has no excuse. We had the post war generation lose its nerve over Vietnam and then the following generation is throwing in the towel before Islamic supremicism.

Obama's Foreign Policy Litany

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems

I will not weaponize space

I will slow development of future combat systems

and I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure the quadrennial defense review is not used to justify unnecessary spending

I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons

and to seek that goal, I will not develop nuclear weapons

I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material

When are the general elections in Israel, and what are the chances for Bibi?

They must be held by March 2010, but probably Livni would call for earlier ones if she can get a coalition together. The latest poll has Livni and Netanyahu tied in event of an election.

Israel has a really screwed-up constitution (they apportion seats in the Knesset according to various groups, etc., so everyone has a say). It keeps them from presenting a strong, united face to their neighbors at times. I'd love to see that change.

Even if Iran never attacks Israel, Iranian nuclear weapons will cause other Arab states - Egypt, Jordan, etc. - to go after their own nuclear arms, endangering not just Israel but pretty much everybody. Obama's stance on Iran is doubly foolish: not only does he risk a second Holocaust, but he also risks a Sunni-Shia nuclear arms race.

re: #20 LoFlyer

Yep, that's reasonable as hell. Obama would jump on it in a heartbeat! The US should renounce the UN and start a "league of Democracies". The fact that the Sauds and Iran dominate the UN is a disgrace

A League of Democracies would merely evolve into another United Nations.

But the UN has no place being located in a country that is a protagonist in most of the worlds affairs. They should be located in a county like Switzerland, which is totally neutral.

We should then remove ourselves from the UN. It is an organization, which in theory, should be an ideal means to prevent strife and create a more prosperous world. In reality, being controlled by third world countries, it is merely a stage in which petty dictators get their shot at threatening the USA in peace while obtaining more money.

Frankly I can't think of a single time the UN has ever made anything better or solved a crisis. Korea was one of the UNs first challenges. Well, 58 years later and we are still there. And we are all still aware of how well the UN Peacekeeping force manned by French soldiers executed their mission in Lebanon when they requested anti-aircraft. To deal with Hizballah? No, to threaten the civilized neighbor of the country.

What?

"The collapse of the capitalist system based on usury and paper and not on goods traded on the market is proof that it is in crisis and shows that Islamic economic philosophy is holding up," said the Egyptian-born, Qatar-based cleric.

"The Western system has collapsed and we have a complete economic philosophy as well as spiritual strength," he said at Sunday's opening of a conference on Jerusalem.

"All riches are ours... the Islamic nation has all or nearly all the oil and we have an economic philosophy that no one else has," Qaradawi said.

He urged Muslims to "profit from the crisis to bring about the triumph of the (Islamic) nation, which holds the spiritual and material resources for victory."

So how come Iran has to IMPORT gasoline if your economic philosophy is so great, huh?
So how come when the largest Islamic Nation in the World was suffering terribly from a Tsunami a couple of years ago, private American Citizens collectively gave the Indonesian people MORE aid than all of the Muslim nations in the world COMBINED. Where did those private citizens get that money since we don't and never will follow your economic philosophy? And if your economic philosophy is so great, why didn't all the other Muslim nations in the World do more to help out the Muslims in Indonesia?!
Geebus, anyone who even sounds semi-rational over there is considered an "expert."

When it comes to Obama wanting to talk to Iran...

Obama has never been about protecting America or leading the world to become a safer place.

Obama is running to become the American people's boss. He's never been about the idea of Presidents working for the American people. He wants to tell Americans what to do and what to think (including what to think about America.)

He wants to tell Americans how warm American homes can be and how much food Americans can eat. He wants to convince Americans that the country is a bad place that he intends to reinvent to his (and to other Marxists) liking.

Obama is about bringing America down so that he can "rebuild" it (as he has said in his ads many times) to be something other than what America has ever been up to now.

This is a political coup attempt by the Weather Underground and their ilk.

In November, America will either be saved from this horror or it won't.

I think the current polls are wrong, but I hope that the percentage of voting Republicans this year is extremely high.

I'm thinking we need some massive overhaul in our national election laws.

1. Voter registrations will only be accepted at county election commission offices, and in person.

2. A valid picture ID must be presented at registration.

3. Background checks will be made to determine if the voter is eligible (ie convicted felon, illegal alien, residence)

4. A valid picture ID must be presented in order to vote.

5. Absentee ballots will be scrupulously checked for validity and tossed out if voter is ineligible.

6. Any GOTV organization that is found to be registering ineligible voters will face federal investigation, and if this organization is in violation in more than one state, that org's registrations are all invalidated.

7. No GOTV organization receives federal funds.

re: #138 Adina in Judea

Remember earlier this year ....... dems kept saying ....... we have so many more democrats this year ...... that was the message they were pushing .... to intimidate republicans .......... now we know they have registered more democrats ....... but all the registered voters are not actually registered TO vote ........ because they are not actual people ........ it was just a scam to intimidate ........ that whole we have a million plus more dems registered we find out is crap .......the amount of democrats that will vote against him is more than anyone thinks .......... half my family are yellow dog dems and they are voting McCain .......

I think it has more to do with sports than politics. In the afternoon lots of lizards watch their football/baseball teams lose or get into a dicey situation; evenings well some start to celebrate or commiserate with adult beverages; mornings always look bright!.

It was Saddam. The IAF did its usual outstanding job. The first set of F-16s breached the reactor containment building, the second set put their bombs through the holes the first ones had made and took out the reactor. Back in the early 80s, IIRC.

re: #116 HDrepub

Some of the Greatest Generation seems to have spoiled their children.

I don't think we can solely blame that on how the boomers turned out. The 50's and 60's were quite a boom for the economy of the US. And the beginning of the "modern conveniences". The boomers have been quite coddled, not just by their parents, but by their country, in economic sense, and in liberty sense. Hence, the radical protests of the 60's. While their parents had to deal with the famine and hard times of the Depression, the boomers were dealing with Social Injustices (segregation). While the greatest generation was ridding the world of an evil anti-semite fascist, the boomers were burning bras and lighting joints because they didn't see the need in fighting communism.

The boomers believed that their struggles WERE and ARE more important than anyone else's. They were self-centered. And the media and Hollywood has pretty much joined the echo chamber, repeating it over and over and over again, the boomers and their great times in the 60's. The only consolation of the 60's boomers is the fight against Social Injustice, but the reality is the movement started in the 50's and had nothing to do with any of the 'radicals' per se, they (the radicals) just used it to make themselves look "progressive". The real work was done by Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr et al.

I went way out of my comfort zone and offered to volunteer at our local GOP office this past Friday. Granted, I live in a liberal university town that is basically in the tank for Obama, but there was NOTHING TO DO. The phone never rang, and I sat there for 2.5 HOURS listening to two other volunteers talk about homosexuals, the liberal professors, religion, etc. The one guy found out that the other volunteer was a nurse and he proceeded to ask a very personal health question in front of me. I finally escaped with a couple of yard signs and will never go back. I will try to do some phone banks from my home next week. Ugh.

I partially agree.

I don't think that 'bad mouthing' is effective unless you're intending to define an unknown. If you can make up people's minds, in your way, at the outset, you're winning.

McCain's mistake was going negative on the wrong things. He pulled the kindergarten ad out, I'm sorry to say, of his arse. He should have gone straight in with associations, character and honesty from the first. Bam.

She'd have to appoint herself the replacement (the governor makes the appointments for replacements). Can you imagine the howls? If I were she, I'd finish my term, get re-elected, and stay as far away as possible from DC. She is most viable as an outsider, reformer candidate, especially during an Obama administration. To stay visible, she does a lot of campaigning for Republicans for Congress in 2010, etc.

I hate to say this, but it may be best for her career NOT to be vice-president, so she can maintain that outsider image, and won't be linked to any blunders by a President McCain.

Voting is not a right. It is a privilege. That privilege is forfeited when someone is convicted of certain crimes, among other things.
It is legal to arrest anybody with an outstanding warrant. Whether that person would be afforded the privilege to vote before being carted off to jail would (or should) depend largely on his status at the time.

Astute!

Where in the Constitution does it state that voting is a privilege? Is there a Supreme Court opinion that says that?

re: #187 baxtrice

I didn't say all boomers were spoiled.
I do agree with most of what you say, except I am a boomer, and my experiences fit none of the above. I wasn't one of the spoiled ones, I had to work for everything I got.

This FactCheck 'debunking' has a loophole in it you could drive an aircraft carrier through:

Capital Gains Rate: It's untrue that Obama is proposing a 28 percent capital gains tax rate. He said in an interview on CNBC that he favors raising the top rate on capital gains from its present 15 percent to 20 percent or more, but no higher than 28 percent. And as for a 28 percent rate, he added, "my guess would be it would be significantly lower than that." Furthermore, he has said only couples making $250,000 or more (or, his policy advisers tell us, singles making more than $200,000) would pay the higher capital gains rate. That means the large majority of persons who pay capital gains taxes would see no increase at all.

re: #290 MandyManners

The right of a felon to vote can be reinstated.

It varies from State to State. Some States rescind the right to vote for life if you have been convicted of a felony. Some only rescind the right while you are serving your term, and afterwards your rights are fully reinstated automatically. In some, your right to vote is never taken away regardless of your crimes and felons can freely vote.

The the equilibrium of Individual Rights and States Rights that will occassionally come into contention is covered by Burke quite a bit. At the time of the founding of the Nation, the concept that the State would have to infringe upon the rights of its citizens in order to preserve itself wasn't as alien of a concept as it is today.

308 uptight  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 10:29:54am

At first I thought this was comical, ironic, self-delusion - like a mouse threatening a cat.

Now, I think about it, the statement is damn scary.

Iran know they'll have a nuke. The preconditions aren't to "just talking", they preconditions are to negotiations to stop a nuclear strike on Israel - that's the precondition is throwing Israel to the dogs. The ultimatum will be, give Israel to the Muslims or see its population vaporised.

Of course, for Iran to be this confident, they'll have to think that the US will have a president that will tie Israel's hands and stop a premptive attack on Iran's facilities or a retaliatory strike on Tehran & Mecca.

IOW, Iran thinks the US will elect Obama - a spineless liberal - and this is making them super-confident of forcing the Jews into the sea.

I hope the US electorate make this connection.

But what they're threatening is intimidation. The voting process by nature involves identifying yourself. Someone exercising a basic Constitutional right (thanks, Cognito) should not be afraid of any consequences; such a threat is voter suppression. A police officer pulls you over for speeding or disrupting the peace outside a bar, runs your name, and finds out you have outstanding warrants, that's totally different.

If you or I were to go to our polling place and find Obama supporters taking down names of registered Republican voters as they went in, we'd be outraged, and justifiably so.

I just don't think the electoral process should be a glorified police sting.

Some states felons have to petition to get their right to vote back ...... there is an Obama supporter who has an organization to get prisoners the right to vote .... I will try to find the link ...... I saw him give an interview on television during the primaries .....

Is that rule for everybody or only replubicans?

They spread that rumor last time and nobody seriously bought it. Acc to my daughter who lived in Philadelphia at the time people were showing up in droves and being led into voting booths without any check in procedure at all. Nothing. So you could go from place to place and even get back in line and revote. No controls at all. This was briefly commented on by some philly press but was quickly forgotten

re: #263 MandyManners

Where in the Constitution does it state that voting is a privilege? Is there a Supreme Court opinion that says that?

A right is something that cannot be removed. As we all know, those include the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We afford those rights to non-citizens, as well as citizens.
A privilege is something that can be removed. The privilege of voting is not afforded, for example, to a non-citizen.
Lyndon Johnson (in 1965) signed into law the Voting Rights Act, which is a piece of civil rights legislation.

I suppose if you want to get picky, rights are occasionally removed as well, like in the cases of murderers and so forth.
Liberty is quite often temporarily removed by incarcerating somebody for a crime.
In this last case, sometimes the incarcerated person loses his "voting rights" (actually the privileges) as the result of his crime after liberty is restored.

You can argue semantics as you wish. If you do that, please include "the right to healthcare", "the right to a dwelling", and so forth.

Obama is an American. No, really. Update: Shocker - Berg a truther?

FactCheck. org is a pretty reputable site. Hot Air used it just this morning to help squash the embarrassingly stupid Obama Birth Cert rumours....

Obama is an American. No, really. Update: Shocker - Berg a truther?

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961, making him a natural-born citizen of the United States. Hawaii’s certification of live birth proves this, as Allahpundit and I have both noted this summer. Fact Check also verified it, although the video does its best to undermine that by noting the connection to the Annenberg Foundation. By the way, Berg and the video manage to mangle this, too, by claiming Obama sat on the board of the Annenberg Foundation itself and distributed their funding. He ran the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, one of the foundation’s beneficiaries. (The St. Petersburg Times also verified the certification independently.)

Charles has linked to it recently as well. There are many reputable sites where you can check out Obama's tax policies or you can embarrass yourself by spreading easily debunked lies.

re: #337 jwb7605

There is a distinction between a Natural Right, which is a birthright, and Civil Rights. By their very nature, Civil Rights don't exist outside of the particular entity that grants them. Voting Rights only exist in relationship to the Government in which you are voting to empower. Natural Rights exist outside of any construct of Government, and Government can literally only interact with them in a way to infringe upon them, and is incapable of granting them.

Criminals can have their Civil and Natural Rights denied when they have denied those Rights to others in society by breaking the Social Contract that we all must abide by. Should the Government not take away the Rights of those that fail to respect the Social Contract, then it is not binding, and you fail to have a properly functioning government.

Entitlements are in no way Rights, and in the case of entitlements of a monetary nature, they actually infringe upon the Involuntary Servitude clause of the 13th Amendment. When you start having a 'Right' to healthcare, the Government then must gaurantee that 'Right' to you by making sure that there exists a class to serve you.

Regardless of complicity in being a part of this class of servants, or just compensation, it still violates the 13th Amendment. Should any of those servants refuse to work, they have violated these fictitious 'Rights' of everyone they serve. To claim an entitlement as a 'Right' is to fundamentally misunderstand the nature of what a 'Right' of any kind is.

Denying only certain people the Right to vote, is in no way similar to gauranteeing all people the right to healthcare or housing. It would similarly be a violation of actual Rights if you disallowed certain segments of society from owning property and access to healthcare. That is the real comparison.

In the Parade insert of Sunday newspapers Your tax savings? under McCain/Obama

When will these stupid people realize that these top wage earners get larger savings simply because they are paying more to start with.

...For example, a person with an income of $1 million could see his taxes increase under Obama by as much as $94,000, whereas under McCain’s plan he could save about $48,000...

The writer would have the reader believe the million dollar earner would be paying nothing, not $48k less than he/she is paying now. But, the reader can see under Obama the "rich guy" would get socked for $94k.

But, seeing as I only earn a third of what the "rich guy" would pay under Obama, I guess I am supposed to buy off on Obamas class warfare.

I don't trust those numbers. Have they factored in:
1. the recent economic events
2. the Dem spending plans

They haven't factored in capital gains.

Nor have they factored in the obvious, which is that changes in taxation status have effects on the economy other than what individuals directly pay.

Specifically, the top earners who get the tax increases under Obama are the ones that create all the wealth and jobs. Increase their taxes and you have less economic growth and likely job loss.

Then the ones at the bottom of the tax pyramid will pay even LOWER taxes. . .since more of them will be unemployed!

They're also grossly distorting the Tax Policy Center's information....

The impact of the tax code on economic activity under each candidate's policies would differ in several important ways. Under Senator McCain's proposed policies, the top marginal rates (35 percent on individual income and 25 percent on corporate income) would be significantly lower than under Senator Obama's plan (39.6 and 35 percent, respectively).

A more accurate analysis here: Marginal Tax Rates Under Obama (50%), McCain (40%)

Obama actually increases taxes on incomes $20-60,000.

Great VDH blurb:

The common denominator in all this? Ask Bill Clinton who saw all this earlier in the primaries. Team Obama has so prepped the battlefield that it is nearly impossible to raise legitimate questions about Sen. Obama's mysterious past without incurring charges of racism and / or character assassination. The modus operandi is to have Obama high in the clouds talking about hope and change and brotherhood, descending on occasion to lament those who cruelly lie about him, and then ascend again as he unleashes a variety of surrogates who preemptively create a climate in which McCain can say very little without being condemned s illibera and worse.

He understates it. Democrats (read: MSM) will barely question reality at all these days, and certainly not the intentions or capabilities of a black man in a suit.

re: #399 J.S. Well the fact that they are funded by Annenberg doesn't necessarily mean they are deliberately obtuse or misdirecting things. But it is a clue.
But my rebuttal to the pronounced tax benefits to the middle class made at #600 in the prior thread made no reference at all to Annenberg Foundation.

In some states, not even then.

DesertDog's No. 383 has a great link. [Link: www.aclu.org...]

It appears that only in Kentucky and Viriginia are felons permanently barred, and seven states permanently bar some.

From what I've read, a felon cannot vote until he is free from parole.

Then perhaps a parole officer could revisit the recommendation of the parole board when parole ends?

Some felons commit such horrible crimes that they should never vote, IMO. But those that reform are given a chance in some states.

It's 2 AM, I just dumped Ayers' history with Obama onto an Obamaton and now she's asking, "Who cares?"

Wth.

re: #408 SpartanWoman

The conservative pundits have been reluctant about McCain at best. Limbaugh and Levin have probably been the most acidic and their loud support now is peppered with caveats and open ridicule. Most of them refused to support anyone during the primaries and Levin named himself a Romney supporter too late to do any good.

You can't call the candidates McLame and Hucklephony and then whine about dems using these tactics.

Conservative pundits spent most of their efforts stopping Hillary and have thus heped Obama.

What do you suppose the poll numbers would be between Hillary and McCain? The Palin gambit wouldn't have had the same effect.

I think TN has an additional requirement that they must have paid all their back child support - in addition to all the fines assessed as part of their sentence - before they can vote again.

Of course, I may have dreamed that. But TN does have some very stringent child support laws, and they are strictly enforced.

Dear Mullahs
I have a counter proposal.
After the electoral college does it's job and keeps the obamanation out of office, we destroy your entire military and your nuclear sites and leave you to the wolves. No occupation since you are so against it. You can rebuild on your own.

I can live with that.

I emailed our state GOP to volunteer. Haven't heard back from them. Great organizational skills.
*sigh*

Don't wait for a reply.

Go down to the local party office and volunteer there. The State Parties at this stage of the game are a complete CF.
