Politics | Sun, Oct 12, 2008 at 6:24:13 pm PDT

Go ahead, Ace. It needs to be said.

Trolls can really ruin your day. And even, your presidential campaign.

He's been getting troll-infested.

2 Dark_Falcon  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:26:40pm

So, can we can call this "Troll Hammer II"?

3 livefreeor die  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:27:01pm

I have to admit that the last couple of weeks, when I see the words "open registration", I cringe. No offense meant to all the new lizards who are on the up and up.

4 lifeofthemind  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:27:46pm

Huffing and puffing to run from thread to thread.

5 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:27:53pm

Awesome! I have fought every damn one of these Whitey tapes, Obama's girl friend, Obama is a muslim rumors. They have not helped our cause.

Way to go. You're Aces in my book!

6 looking closely  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:28:06pm

Saw this earlier.
Supposedly the poorly-confirmed rumor that Ace is alluding to below is that Ayers used to baby-sit Obama's kids.
No idea if that's true or not.

7 offendi  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:28:07pm

Conservatives will never get good press or a fair hearing, even if John McCain throws a tea party and endorses Obama for President.
(He seems to have pretty much done everything else so far).

8 Mike McDaniel  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:28:49pm

The question is, how many of the nut-cases are plants?

9 MrPaulRevere  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:29:02pm

Forget a flame war, they are lobbing white phosphorus grenades in the comments there.

I wonder if that woman knows how stupid she sounded.

13 Pent.  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:29:58pm

The sad part is that there are so many arguments against the opposition that there is no need to resort to such accusations.

14 jones  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:30:02pm

re: #10 buzzsawmonkey

We've got plenty of folks here who, given a gram or two of encouragement, will launch into the birth certificate or "Obama is a Muslim" crap.

Like pawn hunting in chess. Fun, easy and will cause you to lose.

If he did have a pal-gal, he'd probably get more sympathy than anything else from the story, given his charming bride.

19 Mike McDaniel  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:31:19pm

No, fanatics generally can't consider viewpoints not their own. I often have the same problem, but I know I have it and I try to fight it (and am successful in fighting it).

21 livefreeor die  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:32:48pm

re: #18 ploome hineni

did you see the story?

I googled the name someone mentioned a couple of threads back. Some of the PUMAs are on it. What they have sounds suspicious but then, they've been running with the fake birth certificate story so who knows what's going on.

22 Arkay  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:32:53pm

It must also be said:

How many of these persons screaming "Terrorist!" at McCain rallies are Mobys?

I.

Wouldn't.

I'll go further and suggest it is all of them.

Plays too much into Democrat stereotypes of Republicans and, frankly, we have more class than that.

I agree, he needs to use it ...er...liberally.

26 FIVEOFNINE  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:34:57pm

Maybe the people who were shouting terrorist, muslim, etc were liberal plants whose job was to rile up the crowd, knowing that the press would attack McCain on this.

Just thinking

Manufactured issue. Which required McCain to make the public statement he did, causing the Obamatons to rub their hands in glee, an conservatives to start eating their own some more.

32 FrogMarch  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:37:01pm

Kos kid plants or self-indulgent retards. Either way, an appropriate smack down.

33 willowone  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:37:02pm

I'm so glad it was Said, thanx Ace.

34 offendi  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:37:03pm

My sense is that a good majority of voters are not going to be driven to vote for Obama over a half-baked moronic comment by a cretin or two. Sure a lot of "whites" recall Obama was sitting over in the pew when Rev Wright was making his endearing comments about the country. "Typical white person" about grandma by Barry wasn't exactly respectful about granny or white people either.
People are going to be driven to vote by who scares them less in these perilous times and Maverick has been stinking it up in making the case he is the better choice.

re: #11 ploome hineni

what Obama pal-gal story?

/why didn't ace just delete and block the spammer?

He didn't want to mention the name of the woman as relates to that story and just pulled it entirely (he left the original from last night, which linked to me) because a lot of people were mentioning her name.

I left her name up, and curiously, her website has been yanked, which appears a bit suspicious.

While I don't believe the story will gain much traction, I left it up to make a point. It started with a Daily Mail story and seems pretty well sourced, moreso in fact than the NYT piece linking McCain with a lobbyist. My point with my original last night was just to poke the libs in the eye since they just make things up about McCain/Palin and the source for this was a major news outlet.

53 Hard Right  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:40:09pm

The MSM is using the incident to claim McCain/Palin are preaching hate or encouraging it. As usual they ignore the hate from the left as Michelle Malkin points out.

Given how quickly stuff has been shoved aside by the MSM with Barry, it's good to see that the Acorn and Ayers stories still have some legs after one week. The Acorn one seems especially ready to explode given how more and more states are getting fed up with all the fake registrations.

Anyone who has worked or volunteered on a campaign knows that you are like Don Rumsfeld; you fight with the Army you have. Any time you are sitting there or marching with an assortment of college students, retirees, true believers and hopeful climbers there is one who is going to be strange. There are two frustrating things that happen. The first is that you can have 39 sober focused intelligent people who are ready willing and able to discuss the issues standing there but they will be ignored. One clown shows up in a tin foil hat with a hand made sign and the press run to them like Chuck Schumer at the sight of a camera. You can't blame them to much since it is their job. The second thing is why it rankles. You know in your bones that the other side is more populated with Troofers, anti-Semites, and all around wierdos but somehow that staory doesn't get reported.

Big thread on Lucianne on this:
McCain’s ignoble failure to ignite

No, I don’t mean his physical ailments, partly brought on by age and partly by the vicissitudes of torture at the hands of his captors in Hanoi 40 years ago. And I don’t mean his policies, although God knows he has some explaining to do there as well.

I am talking about his inability to carry the battle to his enemies — to look a man square in the eye and tell him, “You are wrong.” He hasn’t yet determined how to run a campaign aimed against Barack Obama’s many flaws, and time is running out. Heck, even Joe Biden understands that McCain looks weak and ineffective on this score.

Exactly. Not to mention from what I've seen, only one person claimed to have heard the shouts--a far left MSM reporter.
Suspect? Yes. Untrue? Not necessarily.

This same woman, Dana Milbank was the only one to have heard the man holler "terrorist". The other reporters did not nor did the crowd.

This same reporter did a story in which she claimed to have heard a Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

The same reporter is the same one that did a story concerning Gov Palins statement, "This is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America," and reporting it as a racist story.

I put up a story today on it using Malkins photos on my site.

If I recall the story was published in the Daily Mail --UK.

Now I'm having second thoughts.

I don't know what to think. I googled various variations of the name, and whenever anything looked promising and I'd click on it, the page would be gone. Even cache would turn up nothing. Could be nothing, could be something, wish I had access to Lexis/Nexis or something like that.

I honestly don't care who sleeps with whom. If it turns out there were fiscal irregularities, that's more important to me.

98 sagamoregal  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:49:07pm

What's scare me the most about McCain and very close returns on election night that can't begin to be called at midnight is that he will drag his advisors kicking and screaming to the microphones to concede too soon.

His niceness scares the shit out of me.

99 lifeofthemind  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:49:07pm

Remember Axelrod is the Prince of Atroturf. Some of these dead end stories are probably traps laid out to discredit the opposition when they report on the real scandals. My suspician was that the girlfriend story either had that behind it or was just thrown out there to cover for other rumors about Barack's apparant monastic existence. Obama since High School has made Jimmy Carter look like a bon vivant.

100 rawmuse  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 6:49:12pm

This entire election cycle has been marred by a) cross-party primary voters voting for their preferred opposition candidate and b) provocateurs showing up at rallies and acting like sh-ts ("Iron My Shirt") and others. At a Palin rally I went to, there was the Obama mob on their side of the street, but in the Palin mob I was in, there were nut jobs that were just there to stir up trouble. Oddly, they were the ones that got the media coverage that evening. I even suspected the media put them there to begin with.

It is fraying my very last bit of Christian bearing.

I posted this yesterday on another thread. The woman who said this is a 75 year old grandma from a suburb of Minneapolis. While she certainly could have been a moonbat plant (it was Minnesota after all) I don't think so. She just forgot to use common sense and good judgment and blurted out what was, for her, a very real threat. I'm sure she's living to regret it given the uproar it's caused.

Maybe 1% of McCain's supporters (or less) are trolls, and people are saying they've "ruined" his campaign.

Obama's entire campaign is run by trolls and probably the majority of his supporters are trolls, but that's OK. They can steal and burn yard signs and commit election fraud and intimidate McCain supporters with threats of legal action and crudely smear Sarah Palin and the media gives them a pass.

Sorry, I don't buy the meme that McCain's campaign has been "ruined' by these trolls. Walking for McCain/Palin, I'm encouraged by how informed the voters I'm meeting are. They know about media bias. They know what's what about Obama. They're not super excited about McCain, but they ARE excited about Palin. McCain’s ignoble failure to ignite

Again, we can't keep obsessing about this. We are wasting time talking about this when we need to keep hammering on ACORN, voter fraud, etc. If McCain doesn't fire you up, then let Palin fire you up! Let the prospect of an Obama presidency fire you up! Fire yourself up! I admit I was discouraged coming home from walking for McCain/Palin Friday night and finding the news about the troll at the rally, but I went back out today and I'm glad I did! The enthusiasm of the young people at the campaign office is infectious, and while going door to door I talked almost an hour with a man who was as informed about Obama as any of us could wish for.

Remember in that movie about the Trapp family , "The Sound of Music" they had a scene where a fresh-faced, innocent kid was singing the song " The Future Belongs to Me"? The camera panned back to reveal he was wearing a Nazi youth uniform. Chilling.

That's the core of the problem. She should have known better. She should have been corrected and properly informed by her fellow McCain supporters but she wasn't. She should have known that her statement was stupid and bigoted but she didn't.
Just this morning I was debating the accuracy of one of those spam emails spreading inaccurate information about Obama's tax policies here on LGF. When I posted accurate and easily researched information everybody pounced on me for spreading progressive propaganda. People were more concerned with damaging Obama that factual accuracy. People continued to post the false information throughout the day.
It's very damaging to cling to easily debunked propaganda because you think it will advance your agenda. I've watched the Koskidz do it for years.

It doesn't matter what we do. Even if 100% of McCain's supporters behave themselves, Obamabot plants will provide fireworks anyway. How much evidence is there that ACORN-style chicanery during the primaries yielded Obama the Democrat nomination, even when Hilary got the majority of Dem primary votes?

If *that* case can be made convincingly, it would probably both encourage turnout for McCain and discourage turnout for Obama.

I saw some mention of that at either P.U.M.A. or Hillbuzz & they're not happy about it..Americans really don't like cheaters.

Milbank has not repeatedly screamed "racism" that I'm aware, but I don't follow his every word. I know that, given that he's press, he's at the very base of the platform, and more likely to hear the comments shouted. I would not be surprised if the fools and the fanatics and the plants are heard by him because, well, they get as close to the platform as possible.

I don't follow his every word, but have heard his shrieks. His claim is suspect, but not necessarily untrue.

Although I agree that campaign and blogger trolls are unproductive, this is what we really need to be focusing on:

Obama's (proven) associations:
Rev. Wright
Bill Ayers
Fr. Pfleger
Tony Rezko
Nadhmi Auchi
Allison Davis
Rashid and Mona Khalidi
David Axelrod
New Party
DSA
ACORN
Fidel Castro
the drunk - Joe Biden

Contrast that with John McCain's associations:
Sarah Palin
Rudy Guliani
Mitt Romney
Joe Lieberman
Tim Pawlenty
Bobby Jindal
Brady Quinn
Sam Brownback
Tom Kean
Mel Martinez
Bob Perry
Lynn Forester de Rothschild

My sense is that some of the supporters of Barrack Obama just might be a lot more dangerous to the future of American democracy than some clueless and misguided supporters of John McCain.

Remember in that movie about the Trapp family , "The Sound of Music" they had a scene where a fresh-faced, innocent kid was singing the song " The Future Belongs to Me"? The camera panned back to reveal he was wearing a Nazi youth uniform. Chilling.

"Tomorrow Belongs to Me" from "Cabaret."

Welcome home & a big thank-you for your service.

Yes, Thank you...and I have to apologize that we've failed on the homefront to keep the enemy at bay. We've been infiltrated by serious socialist/marxists that are on the verge of taking over the entire country via a group called Acorn. It's been in the works for decades via a communist "small 'c'" Ayers who is a terrorist who blew up the Pentagon, the Captital building and the New York Police Station - and 17 more bombings. People died. His associates fortunately blew themselves up when preparing a nail bomb for the Officer's dance at Fort Dix. Now this guy Ayers is going to be sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom.

Here's a metaphor: Years ago my doctor had to burn off a number of warts off my hands and he said to me:

"Your immune system should be fighting these off."

Well our political and social immune system should have been fighting off these radical wart politicians but instead it embraced them and allowed them to become parasites on our system. Now the Political Wart Parasites are about to kill the host society that tolerated them.

I'm so sorry that we didn't know more, fight harder, and pay more attention to this threat. We owe our fighting men more than this. We've failed, but we are fighting back.

Over enthisiastic young people are usually easy to control when they get temped to offer or take bait. The bigger problem is the person, usually a female in her late 40s to 50s, who is itching to start yelling at the crowd about "Baby killing" or "Fidel stole my Father's ..." or "They're really ... (socialists or Moslems or ...)." Even if they are correct they are wrong. You do not want to lose their energy, fact is they show up. You do not want them to scare away other supporters and you do not want them to antagonize the audience. Politics is retail trade folks. This is sales and you sell more with a smile.

Ace's rant should be taken to heart, but I hope that right wingers don't fall for a new anger/hatred narrative that the left is using to push valid investigations into Obama's past associations off center stage once again.

I mean, Obama campaign strategists are carefully linking the 'angry haters' stories to Ayers/Acorn, just at a time when thoughtful re-evaluations of Barry's Chicago alliances, political origins, cronies and judgements are emerging amongst voters - when they are beginning to take a second look. When even the FNS panel spends half of its air time expressing shock at the tiny percentage of conservative 'reactionaries', I wonder if we are not being taken for another ride.

I have been to a McCain townhall and the people asking questions were not screened before speaking. Maybe she is just an older woman who is scared. We have access to many ways of getting information. I feel sorry for older people who are at home wondering what in the hell is going on in this country right now. So, I don't think saying the woman should have known better or that she was trying to cause trouble. She may just be an older person who really does think what she said ........ he could have answered her question better but unless she was from the campaign ..... I don't really fault her. Obama have been with taxes all over the map. From raising capital gains taxes to 28% to lowing taxes on 95% of Americans, including 40% who do not pay any federal taxes.
He even explained that we need to raise taxes not to increase government revenue, but to ensure "fairness".

So whatever is his published "plan" does not matter. If we look at his record, limited as it is, the only sure thing is that his ultimate goal is income redistribution.

The people who are doing this are not "plants". What a ridiculous assertion. I remember a few years ago when this site had a lot of "Deport/Kill all Muslims" from regulars and I routinely got into heated arguments with those people, who in turn accused me of being a secret Muslim. I have been an LGF reader for six years and I was here when registration was open to all, and yet I was avalanched with angry comments by fellow LGFers for advocating that not all Muslims should be killed/deported. Since then and for some time now, Charles has mercifully been deleting such hateful and backwards comments because it taints us all with an ugly brush.

(this is why I don't post much - most days I get here, read two things and feel like my head's going to explode)

I agree. People are making a mistake fretting about it and talking about it so much. Forget about it. Maybe now that the word is out the idiots will wise up ... but remember, they're idiots. And even if all McCain supporters behave themselves, there will probably be Obama plants to provide MSM fodder anyway.

See, we are making the mistake they WANT us to make ... engaging in self-criticism, introspection, and crap like that, right in the heat of the battle. We can't AFFORD this, people! The media will find ways to make us and McCain/Palin look bad no matter WHAT we do! Do not let them distract you, do not let them get you off message, do not let them make you back off the attack!

During the Israel/Hiz'b'allah war, we kept BEGGING Israel to ignore the MSM coverage and stay on the attack until Hiz'b'allah was wiped out ... instead Israel caved when the MSM broadcast enough stories about the "horrible widespread destruction" in Lebanon.

We must not repeat their mistake. We can NEVER, collectively, be perfect, and if we insist on absolutely perfect behavior from every single McCain supporter at all times before we will go all out for victory, then we are holding ourselves to an impossibly high standard and placing ourselves at an impossible disadvantage.

ciaospirit exclusive. About 50 supporters met with Joe Lieberman earlier today for a cup o' joe at a place called Cup O' Joe in Bexley, OH (suburb of Columbus). A lot of those at the coffee house were expressing the same sentiment. So, lizards and other frustrated McCain supporters, here's what Senator Lieberman had to say about it.

Come on. These people have learned from the Palestinians, the Soviets, probably Josef Goebbels as well. They know about propaganda. They know how to manipulate the media (and today's media doesn't even need manipulating, it's basically the Socialists' propaganda arm in and of itself now). 311 odinga  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 7:33:51pm

FYI

Fannie Mae was created in 1938 to help people buy homes who wouldn’t have been able to without Fannie Mae. Fannie Mae’s capital comes from the sale of government guaranteed bonds. This is a system that has worked very well for decades. Franklin Raines and other executives realized that the way to get huge bonuses for themselves (Raines got 90 million himself) was to make MORE loans. There were only so many lower-income people who needed a loan and could afford to make payments.

Raines came up with an innovative approach: Fannie Mae abandoned income verification because this process was restricting the number of loans (and, therefore, Raines’s bonuses). He created a series of clever new loans where homeowners’ payments doubled after just a few years. Many unsophisticated home buyers were unaware that their loan payments would increase, and drastically, fatally.

Federal regulators recognized the threat to Fannie Mae, the taxpayer, and the economy, and warned Congress. In 2005 Congress initiated reform, Senator McCain sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005. Had this bill become law, the abuses would have been illegal, the present crisis would never have occurred.

I'm glad Ace went on this rant, because I agree with him completely. There are nut jobs out there (on both sides) but I don't care about the liberal nut jobs. I care about how the nut jobs on our side are hurting our party and what we're going to do about it.

Mega up dings, Ace.... if I could give them to you, that is.

Sharm, as I 've been saying ... we can forcefully tell them to shut up, But then we have to just forget about it and move on. You can't completely eliminate such behavior, and we are wasting precious time and energy trying to do so.

As I said, years ago. Some of the older readers here may even remember the Israeli guy who was banned for continually trolling threads claiming that all of Europe should be nuked as punishment for the Holocaust, and his hateful rhetoric drove away many European LGF readers.

The last time I commented in a thread, I was accused of being a Muslim simply because I advocated that not all Muslims were evil. Some defended me, many vilified me, and that was the same year that Charles stopped allowing comments inciting violence.

Maybe you're a Muslim and you don't know it. Do you have blackouts 5 times a day? ;)

McCain may have lost the presidency by refusing to get into the Wright matter. When he told people ' don't go there', it was implied condonation of ignoring any other hatemongers or sleazeballs in Obama's orbit. Wright was the loudest and most offensive, and by giving him a pass, McCain allowed the Obama campaign to defuse any other connections that would or should have been problematic.
Horse/barn door thang.

It comes down to people remaining involved in their local republican politics, and when these people reveal themselves, they should be shown the door. This cannot, and should not be tolerated by republicans or we are going to have to continue to fight the charge that the party is racist even when we know better simply because of a few loose cannons.

Ever see Barack give an audience member a microphone? Has he ever done a townhall format? Can you just imagine the pro-Stalinist screed that would pour from his followers if he did? BDS writ large anyone?

Talk shows pre-screen callers and hover over the dump button for a reason. In the "Obama is an Arab" senile oldster footage, McCain grabbed the microphone from her and rebuked her comment. Same thing; bad prescreening and dumped. Only now the MSM, Barack's force multiplier, distort and use the event for, shock-me-bald, propaganda. We respond to their predictable clownishness like it's freaking Armageddon. To SOME of us, McCain was given a chance to be, once again, a LEADER and show America the art of diplomacy. It's not the first time someone with diminished capacity has gotten the microphone at one of his townhalls, and it won't be the last. He's not afraid of them, why should we be?

Want to know how to handle a heckler or a dementia patient? Sarah showed us last week, and McCain showed us here. Class acts, both of them.

It's Over the top with the "screaming out " of anything. Did anyone else notice that at the last debate when McCain and Obama crossed the aisle to shake each others hands, that Obama got very close to his face and whispered something in McCain's ear. Since then, he has and the campaign trail speeches have capitulated to "Being Respectful" even though McCain has stark differences. Also, Up to that point, Obama was captioned as saying,"Say that to my face". Why is direct confrontation that is factually based so disconcerting to so many? Mano y Mano. It needs to happen.
I think both candidates are aware of the damage the superficial mud slinging is causing in the campaign for both of them.
There are Major Issues which have not been said to each other face to face. If they both would stick to the REAL facts, especially McCain, and validate his statements with the FACTS, then we would see the two candidates debating over relevant Facts, not accusatory name calling. OR, worse yet, outbursts from frustrated audience participants who quite honestly (I believe) are just trying to railroad a dominoe effect response of the crowd. This is whether they are "plants" in the crowd, or legitimately ignorant in the way they express their frustrations.
Townhall like settings have a tendency to provide "too intimate" of contact with a crowd of unknowns. I believe it would behoove McCain to consider sticking to his written speeches in these fundraisers on the campaign trail.
Confrontation of the character fault issues needs to be done in the Candidates debates!
Amongst adults, I believe NO one should be made responsible for another persons behavior, good, bad or indifferent. To think otherwise, would squelch our ability to be individuals with a mind of our own. I do not want to live like a sheeple! If someone is "Acting OUT in their behavior, get the hook, and get them off the stage or the blog! ACE, do not punish all of us for the indiscretions of some mindless troll/s! Do not silence yourself either, what you have to offer is important to you and for us to see/hear! Don't let this troll have anymore control than they already commanded!

Sen. Lieberman didn't really answer your question about why Sen. McCain isn't fighting hard.

I worked for a politician, once, for 15 years.

People in an elective office have to walk a very fine line when they speak in public. Just because a question isn't answered during a meeting or conversation doesn't mean that the issue simply stops there. In private, there are further discussions, with ideas and strategies thrown around, some dismissed, some adopted and acted on.

I couldn't get the video to play, so I didn't hear what Lieberman said. Sometimes you have to listen between the lines, so to speak.

I've only been a member of LGF for about 24 hours, but one thing that's dawned on me already is that this community is part of something bigger. We're all part of a movement that, while small and seemingly threatened by overwhelming odds, has the capability to poke needles of light through the dark carpet of bias that is the MSM's perception of McCain supporters. This is, I believe, an incredibly important goal not just for McCain's electoral futures but for the future of the nation. Alternative media sources like LGF prevent the MSM from having a monopoly of the worldwide community's opinion.

Don't screw it up by making us all look like racist idiots. It reduces our credibility. The actions of one can change the perceptions of many, and the MSM certainly isn't going to get real anytime soon. It's up to us to change opinions. Curb your enthusiasm, si vous plaissez.

Could not agree more with Ace's entry. Redneck sheriffs with their "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" make all of us Nobamans look like mouthbreathing jackasses. Thankfully it is a very small minority of all right-thinking people. That being said, EVERYONE on Daily Kos and the like are the left wing equivalent of the racist, mindless morons we have to share our side of the fence with. Unfortunately screaming "racist" and "hatemonger" at the drop of a hat like they do, doesn't have the same damaging effect as actually BEING a racist or hatemonger so our small few idiots actually hurt our position.

The things that are going on in the American election and in the world right now (such as a very real possibility that Iran tried to hit Israel with a dirty bomb on that ship that killed Somali pirates) - well, it's hard sometimes not to get very angry (not to mention sarcastic, sardonic, etc.)

It seems (from what I've seen here) that 99.9% of LGFers know what constitutes crossing the line into totally inappropriate expressions of this anger.

We do have the right to the anger, though. Mountains of it.

The left lives and breathes utter rage, yet they complain when one person at a rally or on a right wing blog crosses the line. It's clearly a double standard.

I guess I'm trying to say that people on the right shouldn't beat themselves up too much when .1% of right wingers say inappropriate things.

Many of us are understandably and justifiably angry about Obama's shady and dangerous associations (almost too many to count.) Obama is trashing America while seeming to court (or at least flirt with) America's worst enemies. All this is going on in a situation where America's worst enemies have monstrous intentions backed by limitless hatred of America and Israel.

It doesn't help us get this message out when people on our side cross the line, but I think part of the problem is that the .1% who cross the line are exaggerated as if they accurately represent 100% of the right wing.

404 bbcrackmonkey  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 7:51:12pm

Honestly, the reason McCain is losing in the polls right now has almost everything to do with the fact that the economy is taking a nosedive right into the damned ground, and the Republicans are mentally associated with that via the Bush Administration. Even though the economy is in shambles because of a myriad of factors stemming from the housing bubble, which both political parties had little control of, and even though the Democrats had a majority in the House during much of the Subprime buildup, people will naturally fall away from the Republican platform because they are associated with big business and thus the failures on Wall Street today.

Claiming that Obama is friends with a terrorist or is a secret Muslim/secret Arab/secret Communist isn't going to help McCain's campaign a single iota because most people wouldn't care even if all of the above were true. They look at their 401k plummet in value and instinctively blame Republicans and McCain by default, as he has had to move closer to Bush in order to take over his political apparatus that got him elected in 2000 and 2004.

I just got the Second Amendment stuff ........ I am bitter and clingy ... you know ...... here it is .....

Senator Barack Obama's Contempt for Your 2nd Amendment Rights

The right to bear arms is a fundamental right provided by the Constitution as a means for Americans to protect themselves, their families, and their property. Senator Barack Obama has sought to diminish and even remove the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens and has gone so far to say that he does not believe people should own guns. The right to own a firearm is exceedingly important to the citizens of this nation, especially to the significant number of sportsmen who enjoy the outdoors. Senator Obama's record on the Second Amendment is extreme and simply does not resonate with the American people.

BARACK OBAMA DISMISSES GUN OWNERS

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

- Senator Barack Obama (April 6, 2008)

THE OBA MA FILE

Running for the Illinois State Senate in 1996, Senator Obama supported banning "the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns." Senator Obama also supported waiting periods and background checks to purchase all firearms.
In 2001, Senator Obama voted against a bill to allow individuals to carry a concealed weapon when they have a valid order of protection out against another person.
In 2003, Senator Obama voted in support of legislation that "would have banned most of the privately held hunting shotguns, target rifles, and black powder rifles" in Illinois. He also voted in support of a measure that would have prohibited multiple sales of handguns within a 30-day period.
In 2004, Senator Obama voted against legislation "drafted to protect homeowners from being prosecuted in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion."
In 2004, Senator Obama expressed his opposition to right to carry concealed weapons by saying, "I mean, I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry."
Running for the U.S. Senate in 2004, Senator Obama received an "F" rating from the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund. Senator Obama advocated national legislation banning concealed carry.
In a 2004 candidate questionnaire, Senator Obama supported banning assault weapons.

Those are the odds. We have to deal with it.

But, Charles, we have to accept that, despite our best efforts, idiots from our side, or Obama plants, may show up at McCain/Palin rallies and say or do things that WILL be splashed all over the media. We CANNOT spend all our time and energy trying to prevent this, or reacting when it does. We are in the middle of a deadly serious struggle for the future of our nation. This is precisely how the media and the Obama campaign WANT us to react to this stuff. It takes us away from hitting on ACORN and everything else.

We need a consistent strategy of staying on the attack, NO MATTER WHAT. If we have to acknowledge and denounce a stupid remark from an idiot, fine, but couple the denunciation with an attack, such as "Yeah, we have a few idiots ... but Obama has ACORN."

414 Ruthless  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 7:53:36pm

Hello fellow Lizardfolk. Slightly OT, but there is sad news to report today at the Ruthless household here in New Mexico, where terrorists have struck. In my desire to exercise my patriotic duty and to express my support for the Republican ticket I recently placed a McCain sign in my front yard. Today, individuals unknown vandalized both the sign and my house in an act that the investigating policeman described as "terrorism."

As soon as the report had been filed I took down the sign and will not replace it, not because I am afraid (they don't call me Ruthless for nothing) but because Mrs. Ruthless (who isn't really very Ruthless at all) was terrorized by this attack. The policeman who filed the report used the word "terrorists" to describe the perpetrators. He served as a Marine in both Afghanistan and Iraq, so I guess he knows what terrorists look like.

I have written a full report and commentary on this incident on my weblog, titled "There Is an Infection Loose in America," includin photographs of the damage. All Lizards are invited to read it here:

[Link: starphoenixbase.com...]

Please feel free to comment, as well. Unfortunately (and you can see why), I reserve the right to review comments before posting them but will do so as quickly as I can.

One more thing: I recently went to the McCain office in Albuquerque and put myself down as a volunteer to drive voters to the polls on election day. Tomorrow, I am sad to say, I will call them to withdraw. It is not from my own fear, but from my wife's fear for my safety. THIS IS HOW TERRORISTS WORK, and it is daunting to see that our country is apparently crawling with entry-level terrorists where ever you look. To paraphrase The One, this is not the America I knew.

421 yesandno  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 7:55:16pm

When history writes all of this, it will come down to the media. The media defined the race, choose the candidates, choose the winner, and told the people of America that they were not intelligent enough to understand the "broader" world where effete snob-ism is the pedestal from which they reign looking down on all of us.

This has caused many of us to grab the duct tape and surround our heads with strips of it lest the whole head explode from the very idea that we are indeed headed where we are headed despite our screaming to go in another direction.

The closer it gets to the actual voting day, the more the pressure on all of us to make a point, any point, that might influence and change things. Some of us go to far. Oh, there are those egging us on. Some from the other side. But we have enough nut cases to not have to import any. Besides, sometimes I feel like a nut myself.

If this is true, then our country is not worth saving anymore. Americans went through hell in the 30's, but they still didn't elect a damn Commie. And this was before Communism had been proven to be a dismal failure.

America is always worth saving. This is our home. Love it or leave it etc. etc.

And also, many people turned to extremism in the 1930s such as fascism and communism, since they had seen their own political systems fail them so spectacularly.

As a matter of fact, I think you're a plant. A COMMIE plant. Come here to sow doom and gloom I bet :-)

I wonder how we'd feel if moonbats haunted McCain's campaign, barking Siddd-Neyyy! every time he tried to speak. In fact, I wonder how the average uncommitted voter would feel about it.

Probably the same way (s)he feels when (s)he hears Huu-Seeein! But in the opposite direction.

re: #414 Ruthless

One more thing: I recently went to the McCain office in Albuquerque and put myself down as a volunteer to drive voters to the polls on election day. Tomorrow, I am sad to say, I will call them to withdraw. It is not from my own fear, but from my wife's fear for my safety. THIS IS HOW TERRORISTS WORK, and it is daunting to see that our country is apparently crawling with entry-level terrorists where ever you look. To paraphrase The One, this is not the America I knew.

Sorry, I can't say I understand your withdrawing from driving people to the polls, no matter how terrorized your wife is. You are not sparing her from future terror. In fact, by caving to the terrorists, you're making it more likely that she will be terrorized again in the future.

The shady association that the McCain camp needs to be hammering about is between Obama and Franklin Raines. Thats the one that will strike a sour chord in the American electorate. Obama is up to his ears in the mortgage crisis. That is more damaging then the other storylines about him.

In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae's chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case's D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.

Nobody who actually means to do something tells the world before he does--and if he does tell the world, he's an idiot. Telegraphing punches is a fool's game.

That and Lieberman plays the "nice" guy just like McCain. It was a bit sickening today. He actually said that Obama is not ready to be President now but could be in the future. I couldn't believe he said it. Obama will never be "ready" because he's an exteme socialist, Joe!

But Lieberman left there knowing supporters are not happy about all this nicety nice. Several bent his ear about it. He acknowledged their concerns but never really addressed them.

If America had a politician named Adolph Mussolini Hitler, he would have a difficult time getting elected. Racism would have nothing to do with it.

Obama has names similar to TWO of America's worst enemies in the 21st Century.

His name could only be worse if it was:

Barack Hussein Ahmadinejad Obama

It isn't racist to respond with repugnance to the names of our enemies. However, it doesn't help protect America from Obama's Marxism and his longtime dangerous associations with people who have names like "Bill."

We already know that his name sounds like two bad people, so I don't think it helps us to bring it up again when there are so many things he's actually done that should get the negative attention.

Well, with the smiley, I know you're just joking about me being a plant (but if I WAS a plant, I like to think I'd be a Venus flytrap).

But my point is, even though lots of people in other parts of the world turned to Communism and Fascism in the 30's, and many Americans were enamoured of Communism and Fascism as well (including Charles Lindbergh), the bedrock majority of Americans rejected them out of hand. Now we have possibly 50% of the electorate ready to vote for a guy who is definitely a socialist and likely a radical socialist or even a communist, before the economy has even entered a recession. Just the potential of tough times ahead has them seeking a magical fix from the very same economic philosophy that we only recently finished fighting a 50 year Cold War against, and which is a demonstrated spectacular failure. Is something in the water turning Americans into morons?

What is the point of using his middle name? Some link to the late dictator from Iraq? Like George Walker Bush... does that make a link between W and John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban? It's just dumb.

I must disagree with you as well. If used normally, there is nothing wrong in doing so. Using it does not automatically mean it is an attempt to smear him. Do you hear yourself?

That's no way to tell somebody that they're wrong! What are you thinking?! You're not going to convince anyone with that kind of limp-wristed mamby-pamby crap. You should first:

A) Begin your disagreement with a personal insult, preferably one involving your opponent's mother
B) Call their loyalty into question and accuse them of working for Al-Qaeda/Hamas/The Gays
C) End your comment with "You're dismissed..." or "Next!" or "You got served!"

Example:
Your mom is gay, you're gay, you work for gays and receive gay paychecks from The Gays. Furthermore I disagree. You're dismissed...

OK. Look just under my name, in this reply. You will see date and time in dark grey. Then, in blue, you will see "reply" and "quote".

When you wish to simply reply to a remark made by a poster (say, me), you click "reply"; the cursor will move down to the comment box, and you will note that (Huzzah!) some code will appear and the comment number you're replying to, and the commenter's name.

Quote is much the same, except that it quotes the remark. That allows you to parse it, if need be.

It's fairly simple. It just automates the control + c we used to do.

Obama should not have made an issue of using his middle name. It never would have hurt him in the polls, and by this point people would have been desensitized to it. It isn't even as if 'Hussein = Hitler'. Hussein will continue to be an extremely common name, as essentially all Muslim names come from Qur'anic figures, or from early Muslim history.

Obama failed to handle the issue with class, and revealed a sensitivity to it that will continue to be attacked. He also tried to obfuscate the issue saying that 'Barack Hussein' was a Kenyan name, when in fact it is a Muslim name. If he had been on the level about it and come out with the truth rather than lying and then changing his story, like he always did, no one right now would even be discussing the appropriateness of using his middle name at all.

Personally, I don't think the "possibly 50% of the electorate" is thinking this deeply about the election.

I think they're thinking:

1. Democrat
2. World seems to likes him
3. Those who don't like him are racist

I've seen left wingers on message boards get into people's faces to say that the only possible reason not to like Obama is racism. I don't think they want as much socialism as Obama has in mind (at least not all of them) but I think they've got themselves convinced that America owes this election to Obama.

I don't think that as many Dems will actually vote for Obama as most people seem to think, though. I think some doubt exists about him that a number of Dems don't want to talk about.

You know I'll change
If change is what you require

Your every dream
Hope, desire

Here comes the mirror man
Says he's a people fan
Here comes the mirror man

And if it seems
I'm not the one you used to know
Our little friendship
Left behind not long ago
Don't feel too hurt
As distance heals the strongest pain
Things are much better now
And just a nagging doubt remains

Actually, I have stated "facts": that the Democrats are responsible for the economic meltdown. But that's irrelevant. My point about the facts is that my faith is based on them. I had no intention of listing any facts. I was responding to your Darth Vader quote about my faith.

You are reading a hell of a lot into my rather brief comments. You have no idea who I am or what I have done. Understand, I do not think this issue is really that big a deal. I am just responding logically to it's relevance. Many of the people will not be bothered by the middle name thing . Are you ready to say that that it will affect no one? Of course not. You are just saying that you're not going to worry about it, and you want to say "Hussein". OK. No big deal. Go ahead and say it.

He only has our best interests, as he is a fine an honorable man, just like McCain said. From his point of view, tearing down America, rebuilding it in a socialist utopia is really for our benefit.

Yes, that would be very fitting. There is a certain mindlessness about most of them and their adherence to a set of ... mantras.

Go ahead and say it.

re: #570 Moe Katz

I may be wrong, but I believe Barak as in Ehud is derived from the word for lightning, not "blessed" (baruch).

"Barak" is a Biblical name (Deborah's General in battle.)

"His name means lightning - one midrash [early commentary] says he was so named because his countenance shone like lightning - and this strong noun is conjured in instances where G-d makes his presence shown."

"Barack" in Arabic may be a mispronunciation of "Baruch," but since the Qu'ran is a plagiarism of the Jewish and Christian Bibles, they also have a huge number of mispronounced Biblical names in use as Arabic names (such as "Mousa" for "Moshe/Moses" and "Daoud" for "David.")

So the Arabic "Barack" could be a mispronunciation of "Baruch" ("blessed") or a correct pronunciation of a Biblical Hebrew name. The three letter roots for lightning and blessed are close but not the same, of course.

Maybe someone else knows better.

Thanks.

No, the Dems are using it in their campaign material.
I usually eat breakfast on weekend mornings at the US Egg restaurant on Baseline in Tempe, which now has the unfortunate distinction of being in the same mall as the Arizona Dem Headquarters. Here is more on Obama crying wolf to the secret service:

[Lufkin daily news ]

A Lufkin woman received a surprise visit from the Secret Service last week because of a "death threat" comment she reportedly made about Sen. Barack Obama to a campaign volunteer asking for her support of the presidential candidate.

Two federal agents arrived at Jessica Hughes' home Thursday to ask her if she said, "I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor." Hughes said her words were deliberately twisted by a volunteer who was apparently unhappy Hughes was rude during a phone conversation the two had. The Lufkin mother, a Republican, said she received a call on her cell phone Wednesday from a woman with the Obama Volunteers of Texarkana.

"She asked if I was an Obama supporter, to which I replied, 'No, I don't support him. Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.' (And then) I hung up."

"I find it hard to believe that (campaign volunteers) don't tape these calls. They call people unsolicited and they aren't monitoring the calls or recording them? I think that is absolutely ridiculous," she said. "She has made a charge that will follow me the rest of my life," she said.

For my own curiosity, over the past few months, I`ve kept a personal list of crazy LGF commenters, the type of people Ace describes. A great many on this list have been banned by Charles. However, I personally think the percentage of detrimental commenters is higher than 1% -- and that isn`t a knock on Charles. LGF is tackling the most important and often inflamatory issues in the world today -- and there are so few outlets available to people who feel strongly about them. On the internet, it is immpossible to shut the door and still be a succesful diseminator of truth. You have to trust people`s intentions, until you no longer can. IMO, LGF attracts some of the most intelligent and thoughtful readers and commenters anywhere online -- and with Charles at the helm (with a clear voice that fascists need not apply), it all makes LGF an obvious force for good in the world.

Side note: anyone who reads and posts comments on the following blog is 99% likely the type of person Ace is describing:

I grew up in a small town (not that far from Minneapolis); it was not uncommon for my elderly mother and her friends to sit around over coffee and sort of warp news stories, and make them more sensational that they really were.

I think if I were going to assign blame, it would be to the campaign itself for failing to adequately screen the questions, or screen them at all.

They had to be cleared the day before by the secret service. The first 2 rows were reserved for guests (kevin mchale) and rep. volunteers. I sat 3rd row and was less than 10ft from him. We did go through metal detectors. I AM SURE THE SECURITY IS TIGHTER AT OBAMA RALLIES.

It was clear to everyone in the building that something was "wrong" with the woman who made the "Arab" comment. She walked down the aisle, instead of sitting in her seat, and approached McCain. He even made a comment like "you can't get the mic like that", but gave it to her anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to know she was on medication.

He sure was put in a bad spot by her. This is after several asked him to essentially take the gloves off. He finally admitted, "I get it", like he said about amnesty. I was shocked when he started telling one man not to be scared of BHO. I was the one who actaully started booing, and yelled out "scared? Terrified!"

1) yes- the c*** t-shirts turned up on an ABC reporter's blog.

A blog ain't ABC nightly news. Or Good Morning America. Let me know when they pick up this story. I won't hold my breath.

2) pointing to the left is not an excuse for misbehavior by some republicans.

Who said it was. My gripe is that the wackos on the right make all the MSM newscasts-I watched that old lady on countless tv news shows- while the wackos on the left are a blip. Meanwhile, the 'rage' of the McCainiacs has been a top story for days. In fact, at this very moment I'm listening to Axelrod work this story big time on MSNBC. He's blaming Palin for not shouting down an audience member, claiming that it is 'her pattern' to incite such outbursts. Jesus fing christ.

Haven't they been saying W. looks like a chimp for the past 8 years ? I find it hard to believe that this person went out and got a chimp just for this purpose - they are quite an investment in time and money. I haven't seen the pix - is there some type of article attached to the monkey that points to Obama ? If not, this seems like the the rush to judgment. Is it not possible that he brings the pet everywhere ? Most people get a kick out of trained chimps. I don't think my first reaction to this would have been "oh look, the guys goofin' on Obama !"
If I were to think anything politically related to the chimps presence it would be "Oh look, a Bush hater".Chimpy Bush McHitler" (or what ever the freakin' name the left has given W.). If there was something about the chimp that leaves no doubt that it was an intentional slam on Obama then the guys a tool and never should have made it through the door.

Maybe the Dems are putting their people at the GOP rallies and let them shout disgusting things.

Spending time exploring Obama's socialist ideas and policies should be enough to convince anyone not to vote for him. Rational discussion and debate is what is needed most...

re: #652 leftover54

I hear the message loudly.
It's time for the candidates themselves to take the kid gloves off and do their own Bidding and Fight with honour and Facts! We the voters are anxiously awaiting the Truth of the Facts presented before them that are not being brought to the face of the opponent themselves! The rightful exposure of extreme socialism needs to occur between the candidates, not their supporters. We are the fact finders. But it is their responsibility to "slit the throat" of this election!
It is not an unexpected or an unintended consequence then to have the Voters attempt to Do their Dirty Work for them!

re: #656 onlyNYneocon

Exactly! So much for "vetting".
That is why I strongly suggest that McCain end these Town Hall setting rallies and just get on with the scripted speeches. This venue allows too much potential for unintended consequences both to himself and to the core topics he needs to be hammering on in these last few weeks on the trail.

A quick look at one other major conservative blog this morning has commentors bashing those who don't buy into the "Obama is a Muslim!" meme. I also see the "Obama is a terrorist!" thing in the same string of comments. I'm almost surprised NOT to see the birth certificate thing there too. I used to find Democrat comments about how they're the 'reality based community' hilarious in their irony. Increasingly, I find those on the right infected by the same sort of sensationalising paranoid hysteria.

Unfortunately, the person running that popular conservative blog keeps posting tidbits riling these people up. . . which doesn't help.

Yes, it needs to be said, again and again and again, but trolls have little to do with it. It's the Kos element on the right, the professionally outraged, who are too adolescent to have figured out that McCain won the primaries because voters preferred him, and have been whining and bitching and getting crazier all the time. Malkin, who wrote Unhinged, is now one of the craziest bitches on the internet.

Malkin, who wrote Unhinged, is now one of the craziest bitches on the internet.

How did you know that's the site I was talking about (it was)?

667 Banner  Mon, Oct 13, 2008 9:22:46am

I realize that this far down no one will probably read or see this comment, but what the hey, I feel like venting.

Sometimes (very rare sometimes), I feel like becoming just the very person the liberals claim we are, and wish that we all would. That we'd pick up our guns and engage in an orgy of mindless violence, murdering and killing the stalwart defenders of the left, purging them all from our fair society until none are left. That we'd reform the schools and education system so that the facts get taught, and teachers do not endoctrinate under pain of death. The Politicians and Judges who put other countries before ours, or who put their own welfare before that of the citizenry are simularly punished.

But I don't. I don't do it, I do NOT rant it all over the world and the websites, I don't even say it at parties on the (extremely) rare occasions I've had a little too much to drink. And if any one has a right to do it, it is surely me. I have been physically assualted by liberals for having unpopular ideas, I won't even go into the verbal threats and assaults! Just saying that I was a Reagan supporter and think that Bush is doing an Okay job has gotten me more grief in my life than you can image. People actually hounded me on line and to my face for years.

Back when I used to go to (peaceful) anti-Clinton rallies I soon found my phone tapped, BATF agents following me around (I kid you not, they actually pulled out badges when confronted, one of my friends was paranoid about the people following us around taking our picture), I lost my security clearance and had to change to a whole new industry in order to make a living (not easy but I did it).

All this stuff annoyed me, and it forced me out of politics of any kind. I don't go to protests (the peaceful Republican kind, where you just walk around with a sign and do what the police tell you to. I've never been to a riot and have no desires to), I don't campaign for anybody (I used to do that too), I don't go to the capitol and sign up for the chance to have my 60 seconds to tell my legislature why I approve or disapprove of a particular bill. I don't get involved in community efforts to 'get our voices heard'. I don't even sign petitions.

In short I have been effectively muzzled by the left and the democrats. I still vote, but that's all I do. If maybe the people on the right, and the Republicans did something to protect people like me from the harrassment of the left maybe I'm contribute money to them again, but being out of work for two years and having to retrain has taught me that the democrats play for keeps and I can't afford to lose my career again. And why should I risk anything anymore? Look at the leaders in the Republican party, every last one of them these days is a joke, they do not inspire loyalty, and they will not fight for you, much less what they claim to believe in. Obama is mostly likely going to win, and only those with enough intelligence to realize that this country was once a greater place then he will surely make it will even care about what he is doing.
And I can just imagine what will happen to all the people who opposed Obama and tried to educate the electorate on him after he wins. It's not going to be pretty I'm sure.

Charles, Tell Ace that the sheep know their shepherd's voice. The 'undecided' voter is as mythical as the recently-invented "Flying Spaghetti Monster". What is real is the liberal's most hated vice: Hypocrisy. Remember this adage: When a person stands for nothing, then all things are permissible and hypocrisy becomes an impossibility. McCain's camp, however, dared to be civil; and when one of its base crossed that line, then Obamanation gently reminded everyone of the curse of hypocrisy. Obama's Apostles aren't hypocrites because it takes an enlightened mind to understand the nuance between the Republican's use of said tactic and the Democratic version. If you ever hear a Democrat decrying this behavior in their own camp, look for their hands; they're probably behind their back with crossed fingers.
