Stick to your guns, Mandy. If I recall, it was a mineral shipment from China to the Netherlands -- an Iranian ship, but that means little in many cases. And mineral shipments are often dangerous -- doesn't mean they're dirty bombs.

Somebody could prove all that wrong with a rock-solid bit of evidence about dirty bombiness, but I'll wait with you.

Seriously, Israel. Don't give them a second chance on this.

94 Palandine  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 8:14:07pm

Palandine works on getting her CCW permit.

Thi will entail getting a new id card, and the Show-Me State has put in place the Real ID act. This means, even though I've had a valid MO drivers license for more than 20 years, I'll have to produce:

*A birth certificate or passport
*A SS card
*My most recent utility payment

Here's where it gets fun. My SS card disintegrated on me some time back. To get a replacement, I'll have to show them a birth certificate or passport, and a driver's license.

I appreciate Missouri's efforts on behalf of real identity, but it ticks me off that a law-abiding citizen has to jump through such crazy hoops because of illegal immigrants and identity theft.

And, FWIW, I've never been asked for ID when I go to vote. Strange...

How many people does a bomb have to kill and wound at an officers' dance to be considered a weapon of mass destruction? 25? 50? 100? 300?

I use the term WMD to refer to Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons. Ayers bomb, though deadly, was a conventional bomb. This does not in any way mitigate the evil intent of its construction.

Probably not...have to wait for the interview (fingers crossed)...

Is it a straight application, where they basically ask you for name, ssn, previous experience, etc., or does the application ask you any questions like, what makes you interested in or particularly qualified for this job, in which case you express your passion for the area because of the links to your family history - you get the picture.

I was thinking that as I read it-what do they ask for when you go to vote?

I'm a registered voter (only once, even though this IS St. Louis). About a week before the election, they send you a notecard that says what the election is for and where your polling place is. I go to the polling place and hand them that card. They look through a book that has the names and addresses of everyone in the precinct, with an electronic version of your signature. They cover that, and you sign next to your name. They compare the sigs, and give you your ballot. I always have my driver's license out, and they NEVER look at it.

re: #94 Palandine

Strange...

I just finished my basic pistol class this past weekend, and have not decided for certain if I'm going for a CCW yet- I have the certificate and 6 months to make up my mind. In Michigan, rules vary by county, so I have to go in front of the gun board. Plus, the application costs $105 statewide.

FYI- they just started asking for ID to vote in my area. VERY glad that's happening, although I live in a pretty civil area, so I'm guessing we're less likely to have voter fraud here. I think.

I'm a bit confused about something...all these libs around me at work keep dismissing the William Ayers and Tony Rezko dirt as meaningless because of "guilt by association." Is not Obama's entire campaign based on guilt by association, linking McCain to Bush? Am I high here?

Correct them that it was a deliberate 5 year + alliance because Obama shares ayers views. With the REv. it was 20 years of mentorship. What is a mentor?

Is it a straight application, where they basically ask you for name, ssn, previous experience, etc., or does the application ask you any questions like, what makes you interested in or particularly qualified for this job, in which case you express your passion for the area because of the links to your family history - you get the picture.

It's an academic application, so you send in your cv, your teaching evaluations, your articles, and you also write a cover letter, which is where you sell yourself. I felt safe saying that I was from PA originally and really, really wanted to settle in the state again. But I think G-G-Grandfather Henry might be a bit much in the first stage. Even though he's buried right there in the National Cemetery.

Drudge developing ......... good news for McCain in upcoming polls ...... for what their worth .....

I got polled today...caller ID said Washington DC call.....didn't catch who was doing it...four questions.
?1) If election held today who would you vote for 1 for McCain 2 for obama and 3 for undecided....of course I chose 1.
other 3 questions had to do with IL
?2) listed two running for senate
?3) asked if how economy going to effect whether voting demo or repub
?3) ask about IL constitution......which we are suppose to be voting on whether to let them look it over and make changes if needed/wanted....Gov. Blog is against it.
Talked to my younger sis later and she said she got polled from same place today.
Other note.....local radio station did a poll this week and McCain won by a lot here in Southern IL.

I think.

I'm not sure I WANT to carry, but I do know that I want the option, so I'm going to get my CCW. Just paid for the class, which I take next month. Then $100 to the Sherrif, then all this fooling around with ID.

Another dead thread! I am reposting because I want to get the news out about the vandalizing of my McCain sign and my house in an act that the investigating policeman described as "terrorism." He served as a Marine in both Afghanistan and Iraq, so I guess he knows what terrorists look like.

I have written an full report on this incident on my weblog. All Lizards are invited to read it here:

[Link: starphoenixbase.com...]

Please feel free to comment, as well. Unfortunately (and you can see why), I reserve the right to review comments before posting them but will do so as quickly as I can.

Sorry to hear you were terrorized.

My dad had an experience with hate mail. He wrote a letter to the editor at his local paper, basically outlining 0bama's ties to Ayers/ACORN. He signed his name to it and some scumbag sent a letter to my folks house that said, "When you go to the booth on Nov 4th, don't forget to take your hood off".

These people are ####ed-up.

If there is confirmation that the Iranian ship was a dirty bomb en route to contaminate the Mediterranean coast then what will Israel do? This is effectively the same as a missile launch; only it was in slow motion and crashed in mid transit. It is likely that if the plan had carried off it would have killed as many Arabs as Jews but the Iranians don't mind that and neither apparently do the Arabs. For thirty years or more the Israelis have stated that "they would not be the first nation to introduce nuclear weapons into a Mideast conflict." It appears that line has now been crossed. A close examination of the substances on the ship should provide a wealth of valuable information. Pinpointing the exact location of the source and giving intelligence on the technology used. For example if the Chinese sold Iran nuclear waste and soil from the test site at Lop Nor then a close analysis will reveal many of their secrets. If someone else provided the cargo we should soon know. If China did sell the cargo did they then leak the plans to the Israelis, who they have a long term defense relation with? The pirates may not even know who sent them. They only know their hair is falling out and they are dieing.

re: #94 Palandine

Strange...

Good for you, stick with it! Its a PITA, but you don't live in the Democratic People's Republic of Maryland, where to get a CCW you must either have a verified death threat against you, carry large sums of money, or be politically conected.

I don't think as bad as the MSM is reporting. Poll samples have been WAY out of wack oversampling Marxists by 10 points. I live in pretty conservative west Richmond and McCain/Palin signs out number Marxist signs by 3 to 1 out our way.

I'll get a better gauge tomorrow at the Palin rally at RIR. It was scheduled for a 4,000 seat venue downtown and they've moved it to the racetrack since they had over 16,000 requests for tickets. I'll be there with my 6 and 8 year olds. My 8 year old is named Sarah and thinks the governor rocks. We're raisin'em right! Other than Marxist strongholds of downtown Richmond, Charlottesville and NoVA, I just can't see Virginia going blue.

re: #74 MandyManners

I don't know of anything that burns the skin, makes the hair fall out and kills you except radiation.

There are several Industrial type chemicals that have just as bad immediate physiological effects. This link was posted on a few weeks ago and I threw the BS flag on the nuclear, and still do hesitantly. If true, Iran is going to paint themselves into one unforgiving corner. There is more fear associated with a dirty bomb than there is actual risk from the contaminants. If something is bad enough to kill a pirate locally, arrrgh!, once dispersed, the relative hazard falls precipitously and the risk of death literally falls by several powers of 10 (the idiom is that dilution is the solution). I'm not giving it a green health and safety light, I'm just saying that the risk isn't as bad as people want to make it. If it is a dirty bomb, the political fallout will be far worse than any actual radionuclide. Regardless, such fallout, literal and political, would warrant lighting Iran up.

Willing to give the government the information needed to confiscate (temporarily of course, and only during this here state of emergency. You'll get them back once it all blows over.) your guns. Look into the response of NawLeans pols during the Katrina mess. I know, the NRA won the lawsuit. Fat lot of good it did those who had their guns snapped up during the actual problem.

FYI - the interception call was the right one. The refs would make it again if they could. The Big 12 reviewed it and said it was the right call. I've seen that call made tons, in both college and pros, and every time people complain. The two running into the kicker calls, on the other hand.. well ahem.

For your reading pleasure: Notes on Nationalism by George Orwell.

Who does this sound like?

In nationalist thought there are facts which are both true and untrue, known and unknown. A known fact may be so unbearable that it is habitually pushed aside and not allowed to enter into logical processes, or on the other hand it may enter into every calculation and yet never be admitted as a fact, even in one's own mind.

Every nationalist is haunted by the belief that the past can be altered. He spends part of his time in a fantasy world in which things happen as they should -- in which, for example, the Spanish Armada was a success or the Russian Revolution was crushed in 1918 -- and he will transfer fragments of this world to the history books whenever possible. Much of the propagandist writing of our time amounts to plain forgery. Material facts are suppressed, dates altered, quotations removed from their context and doctored so as to change their meaning. Events which it is felt ought not to have happened are left unmentioned and ultimately denied.

Go read the whole thing.

re: #331 razorbacker

I admire you folks, I surely do.

Personally, the lack of a piece of paper seems to make little difference. Well, maybe I'm that least little bit more careful, but that's alright.

There are ways around that. Its entirely possible to design a storage area law enforcement is unlikely to find. The catch is that if they do find you look guilty of something.

Good evening,

I have been reading LGF for some time now and I finally got in. I have decided to turn off the news, just too depressing. Obama this, Obama that I am fed up with it. I just wish McCain would not of have lost his onions along the way. I wanted to get away from the news and decided to watch the History Channel's "Last Days on Earth" and who and what pops out of course Al Gore and Global Warming, which does not exist, at least in my mind. Gotta go the morning will come before I know it.

JD171, out

There's been carnage here too. I used to be Chubby Vegan (like you'd remember me), but there are some old regulars who have been sent packing.

You know, I was gone for the better part of a year, and when I got back it looked like a new broom had swept clean. RebTex, Ann and her hubby that I can't name right now, bigel and a lot more were gone. I figured a particularly vicious ID thread had took 'em out.

PS, I was born in Chattanooga TN.

Yeah, I am thinking they did large amounts of work that we would never want to even think about ......... the guys pretty much stuck together ....... they partied at our house all the time when I was a kid ........ mama told me he was in Vietnam before we said we were there ..... but he didn't talk too much about it to her either ..... all his buddies stayed friends for life ...... he passed about six years ago .... tough guy ....... but not as tough as mama ........
