Stick to your guns, Mandy. If I recall, it was a mineral shipment from China to the Netherlands -- an Iranian ship, but that means little in many cases. And mineral shipments are often dangerous -- doesn't mean they're dirty bombs.

Somebody could prove all that wrong with a rock-solid bit of evidence about dirty bombiness, but I'll wait with you.

Seriously, Israel. Don't give them a second chance on this.

94 Palandine  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 8:14:07pm

Palandine works on getting her CCW permit.

Thi will entail getting a new id card, and the Show-Me State has put in place the Real ID act. This means, even though I've had a valid MO drivers license for more than 20 years, I'll have to produce:

*A birth certificate or passport
*A SS card
*My most recent utility payment

Here's where it gets fun. My SS card disintegrated on me some time back. To get a replacement, I'll have to show them a birth certificate or passport, and a driver's license.

I appreciate Missouri's efforts on behalf of real identity, but it ticks me off that a law-abiding citizen has to jump through such crazy hoops because of illegal immigrants and identity theft.

And, FWIW, I've never been asked for ID when I go to vote. Strange...

How many people does a bomb have to kill and wound at an officers' dance to be considered a weapon of mass destruction? 25? 50? 100? 300?

I use the term WMD to refer to Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons. Ayers bomb, though deadly, was a conventional bomb. This does not in any way mitigate the evil intent of its construction.

Probably not...have to wait for the interview (fingers crossed)...

Is it a straight application, where they basically ask you for name, ssn, previous experience, etc., or does the application ask you any questions like, what makes you interested in or particularly qualified for this job, in which case you express your passion for the area because of the links to your family history - you get the picture.

I was thinking that as I read it-what do they ask for when you go to vote?

I'm a registered voter (only once, even though this IS St. Louis). About a week before the election, they send you a notecard that says what the election is for and where your polling place is. I go to the polling place and hand them that card. They look through a book that has the names and addresses of everyone in the precinct, with an electronic version of your signature. They cover that, and you sign next to your name. They compare the sigs, and give you your ballot. I always have my driver's license out, and they NEVER look at it.

re: #94 Palandine

Strange...

I just finished my basic pistol class this past weekend, and have not decided for certain if I'm going for a CCW yet- I have the certificate and 6 months to make up my mind. In Michigan, rules vary by county, so I have to go in front of the gun board. Plus, the application costs $105 statewide.

FYI- they just started asking for ID to vote in my area. VERY glad that's happening, although I live in a pretty civil area, so I'm guessing we're less likely to have voter fraud here. I think.

I'm a bit confused about something...all these libs around me at work keep dismissing the William Ayers and Tony Rezko dirt as meaningless because of "guilt by association." Is not Obama's entire campaign based on guilt by association, linking McCain to Bush? Am I high here?

Correct them that it was a deliberate 5 year + alliance because Obama shares ayers views. With the REv. it was 20 years of mentorship. What is a mentor?

Is it a straight application, where they basically ask you for name, ssn, previous experience, etc., or does the application ask you any questions like, what makes you interested in or particularly qualified for this job, in which case you express your passion for the area because of the links to your family history - you get the picture.

It's an academic application, so you send in your cv, your teaching evaluations, your articles, and you also write a cover letter, which is where you sell yourself. I felt safe saying that I was from PA originally and really, really wanted to settle in the state again. But I think G-G-Grandfather Henry might be a bit much in the first stage. Even though he's buried right there in the National Cemetery.

Drudge developing ......... good news for McCain in upcoming polls ...... for what their worth .....

I got polled today...caller ID said Washington DC call.....didn't catch who was doing it...four questions.
?1) If election held today who would you vote for 1 for McCain 2 for obama and 3 for undecided....of course I chose 1.
other 3 questions had to do with IL
?2) listed two running for senate
?3) asked if how economy going to effect whether voting demo or repub
?3) ask about IL constitution......which we are suppose to be voting on whether to let them look it over and make changes if needed/wanted....Gov. Blog is against it.
Talked to my younger sis later and she said she got polled from same place today.
Other note.....local radio station did a poll this week and McCain won by a lot here in Southern IL.

I think.

I'm not sure I WANT to carry, but I do know that I want the option, so I'm going to get my CCW. Just paid for the class, which I take next month. Then $100 to the Sherrif, then all this fooling around with ID.

Another dead thread! I am reposting because I want to get the news out about the vandalizing of my McCain sign and my house in an act that the investigating policeman described as "terrorism." He served as a Marine in both Afghanistan and Iraq, so I guess he knows what terrorists look like.

I have written an full report on this incident on my weblog. All Lizards are invited to read it here:

[Link: starphoenixbase.com...]

Please feel free to comment, as well. Unfortunately (and you can see why), I reserve the right to review comments before posting them but will do so as quickly as I can.

Sorry to hear you were terrorized.

My dad had an experience with hate mail. He wrote a letter to the editor at his local paper, basically outlining 0bama's ties to Ayers/ACORN. He signed his name to it and some scumbag sent a letter to my folks house that said, "When you go to the booth on Nov 4th, don't forget to take your hood off".

These people are ####ed-up.

If there is confirmation that the Iranian ship was a dirty bomb en route to contaminate the Mediterranean coast then what will Israel do? This is effectively the same as a missile launch; only it was in slow motion and crashed in mid transit. It is likely that if the plan had carried off it would have killed as many Arabs as Jews but the Iranians don't mind that and neither apparently do the Arabs. For thirty years or more the Israelis have stated that "they would not be the first nation to introduce nuclear weapons into a Mideast conflict." It appears that line has now been crossed. A close examination of the substances on the ship should provide a wealth of valuable information. Pinpointing the exact location of the source and giving intelligence on the technology used. For example if the Chinese sold Iran nuclear waste and soil from the test site at Lop Nor then a close analysis will reveal many of their secrets. If someone else provided the cargo we should soon know. If China did sell the cargo did they then leak the plans to the Israelis, who they have a long term defense relation with? The pirates may not even know who sent them. They only know their hair is falling out and they are dieing.

re: #94 Palandine

Strange...

Good for you, stick with it! Its a PITA, but you don't live in the Democratic People's Republic of Maryland, where to get a CCW you must either have a verified death threat against you, carry large sums of money, or be politically conected.

I don't think as bad as the MSM is reporting. Poll samples have been WAY out of wack oversampling Marxists by 10 points. I live in pretty conservative west Richmond and McCain/Palin signs out number Marxist signs by 3 to 1 out our way.

I'll get a better gauge tomorrow at the Palin rally at RIR. It was scheduled for a 4,000 seat venue downtown and they've moved it to the racetrack since they had over 16,000 requests for tickets. I'll be there with my 6 and 8 year olds. My 8 year old is named Sarah and thinks the governor rocks. We're raisin'em right! Other than Marxist strongholds of downtown Richmond, Charlottesville and NoVA, I just can't see Virginia going blue.

re: #74 MandyManners

I don't know of anything that burns the skin, makes the hair fall out and kills you except radiation.

There are several Industrial type chemicals that have just as bad immediate physiological effects. This link was posted on a few weeks ago and I threw the BS flag on the nuclear, and still do hesitantly. If true, Iran is going to paint themselves into one unforgiving corner. There is more fear associated with a dirty bomb than there is actual risk from the contaminants. If something is bad enough to kill a pirate locally, arrrgh!, once dispersed, the relative hazard falls precipitously and the risk of death literally falls by several powers of 10 (the idiom is that dilution is the solution). I'm not giving it a green health and safety light, I'm just saying that the risk isn't as bad as people want to make it. If it is a dirty bomb, the political fallout will be far worse than any actual radionuclide. Regardless, such fallout, literal and political, would warrant lighting Iran up.

Willing to give the government the information needed to confiscate (temporarily of course, and only during this here state of emergency. You'll get them back once it all blows over.) your guns. Look into the response of NawLeans pols during the Katrina mess. I know, the NRA won the lawsuit. Fat lot of good it did those who had their guns snapped up during the actual problem.

FYI - the interception call was the right one. The refs would make it again if they could. The Big 12 reviewed it and said it was the right call. I've seen that call made tons, in both college and pros, and every time people complain. The two running into the kicker calls, on the other hand.. well ahem.

For your reading pleasure: Notes on Nationalism by George Orwell.

Who does this sound like?

In nationalist thought there are facts which are both true and untrue, known and unknown. A known fact may be so unbearable that it is habitually pushed aside and not allowed to enter into logical processes, or on the other hand it may enter into every calculation and yet never be admitted as a fact, even in one's own mind.

Every nationalist is haunted by the belief that the past can be altered. He spends part of his time in a fantasy world in which things happen as they should -- in which, for example, the Spanish Armada was a success or the Russian Revolution was crushed in 1918 -- and he will transfer fragments of this world to the history books whenever possible. Much of the propagandist writing of our time amounts to plain forgery. Material facts are suppressed, dates altered, quotations removed from their context and doctored so as to change their meaning. Events which it is felt ought not to have happened are left unmentioned and ultimately denied.

Go read the whole thing.

re: #331 razorbacker

I admire you folks, I surely do.

Personally, the lack of a piece of paper seems to make little difference. Well, maybe I'm that least little bit more careful, but that's alright.

There are ways around that. Its entirely possible to design a storage area law enforcement is unlikely to find. The catch is that if they do find you look guilty of something.

Good evening,

I have been reading LGF for some time now and I finally got in. I have decided to turn off the news, just too depressing. Obama this, Obama that I am fed up with it. I just wish McCain would not of have lost his onions along the way. I wanted to get away from the news and decided to watch the History Channel's "Last Days on Earth" and who and what pops out of course Al Gore and Global Warming, which does not exist, at least in my mind. Gotta go the morning will come before I know it.

There's been carnage here too. I used to be Chubby Vegan (like you'd remember me), but there are some old regulars who have been sent packing.

You know, I was gone for the better part of a year, and when I got back it looked like a new broom had swept clean. RebTex, Ann and her hubby that I can't name right now, bigel and a lot more were gone. I figured a particularly vicious ID thread had took 'em out.

Don't believe the story. The last article I had seen on that stated that the people who gave us the info-Somali officials, had exaggerated and even lied in the past. Apparently the pursuit of American cash is behind such claims.
Also, U.S sources stated they knew of no chemicals that could cause such results--if it even happened. Besides, with our radiation detection capabilities I'd think we'd know if anything radioactive is onbaord.

re: #373 jd171

Good evening,

I have been reading LGF for some time now and I finally got in. I have decided to turn off the news, just too depressing. Obama this, Obama that I am fed up with it. I just wish McCain would not of have lost his onions along the way. I wanted to get away from the news and decided to watch the History Channel's "Last Days on Earth" and who and what pops out of course Al Gore and Global Warming, which does not exist, at least in my mind. Gotta go the morning will come before I know it.

JD171, out

Bye, and have a nice rest. Don't worry about the Gorical, someone else will be around in not too many years to scam you. What was is it .. a sucker born every day?

re: #94 Palandine

Strange...

Not necessarily. If your birthplace is on file with SSA -- and for anyone born after 1957 or so, it generally is -- all you need to get a new SS card is a valid ID. Your driver's license, assuming it's current, will work just fine.

* Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
* Posts that contain phone numbers, addresses, or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
* Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.
* REMEMBER: posting comments at LGF is a privilege, not a right. Abuse that privilege, and your account will be blocked.

re: #362 Momoftwogirls

Yes, I'm praying he comes out swinging on Wednesday night. I fear for the future of this country, my kids future if THE ONE should steal this election.

As painful as it is to watch it unfold, McCain is not happy unless he is carrying his luggage in an airport, meaning: he is the ultimate underdog. And in that comfort zone, he excels. He will kick ass Wed. because that is who he is. When the chips are down and all that... Frankly, a little less drama would suffice, John.

No ladies and gentleman, John McCain is not out first or 31st choice for President. But, Barack Obama and that contemptable man with the plugs is not even on a ballot with 1000 candidates.

So, as we have all surmised, he [McCain] is the horse we are riding and is the very lesser of two evils. I love my country too much to see it turn Socialist in my life time. That said...

I am confident he and Sarah will win, if for not other reason than I cannot find a chink in the armor of Sharmuta who's icy steel resolve was reminiscent of Churchills'. She is stalwart in her belief and who are we to question her wisdom. So I say let us win this election, John McCain. On another day, we conservatives will (hopefully) petition your office (when you are contemplating a reach across the aisle) to remember what your friends across the aisle did to you and that you not forget us who believed in you when we had no right to do the same.

If this stock market roller coaster can stop, I think Obama will lose some points. I am still scratching my head about why the people in this country think Obama will be their salvation...every policy he as listed, higher taxation of business and massive government spending, would not be the cure to what ails this country.....

Ok, I know I am 55, and I know I live in a cave (a graden apartment), and I know I'm in the arts, and I know, I live with a parrot and two finches, but come on, I'm not that lonely.

I have a friend (twenty years my younger) that comes buy almost every Sunday and we watch a DVD before I head for the theatre. We usually have some lunch.

Today he brings me a gift, a Roboquad, a fricken robot, it's base looks like some sort of lunar rover monster bug with 4 spiney legs. It's neck and head looks something like Number Five in Short Circuit.

Ok, this little mother goes roaming around the room, scanning everything, figuring out where the furniture is, and now the liitle sucker can get around the living room without bumping into anything, unless I stand in it's way, then it figures out how to get around me.

My parrot is sitting on her highest perch, screaming at this thing. Well, it has a damn noise sensor, and heads toward the source of the screaching.

So here is this robot, looking UP at the parrot, scanning it's IR eyes, reflecting off the parrots cage, beeping at the parrot, and the parrot is screaming at the robot.

And that was all just in the "awareness" mode. I can't wait to put it in "guard" mode, we're fixin' to have a fight.

Any guesses on what Wall Street will do this week? Continue the nose dive and crash into the mountain? Or, pull up just in time and start to climb again? If this stock market roller coaster can stop, I think Obama will lose some points. I am still scratching my head about why the people in this country think Obama will be their salvation...every policy he as listed, higher taxation of business and massive government spending, would not be the cure to what ails this country.....

There are those who think that the prospect of an Obama win is fueling the nose dive.

I am in an extremely liberal area, it seems everyone here thinks Obama has won already. I do take comfort in the fact that a few people I know have changed their minds about him recently.

Obamas strong suit is his judgement. He said so himself since he has zero for experience. He has no senate experience since he went from election to campaigning for Prez. His judgement scares me.
Somehow, I get the feeling that when he voted present, he was less then half right.

The reports from Asia show markets recovering there. I suspect that there will be some more down days, but with some up ones too. The panic may be slowing down, which is what we need. If things settle down over the next few days, it will be good for McCain, especially if he can get across some of the points that need to be made about the Democrat role in creating the problem in the first place.

LOL! This will be interesting!

"We're a couple points down, OK, nationally, but we're right in this game," McCain said to cheers. "The economy has hurt us a little bit in the last week or two, but in the last few days we've seen it come back up because they want experience, they want knowledge and they want vision. We'll give that to America."

-John McCain

590 JacksonTn  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 9:14:36pm

I got an email from McCain about an hour ago about 2nd amendment rights...... it was I guess directed at Tennessee bitter clingers ........ I think they are targeting each state as needed ....... below is an email that someone from Georgia just received ........ it's about Ayers ......

Bill Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who helped found the Weather Underground. He and his organization were responsible for attacks on government buildings and public officials' families; their actions resulted in deaths and serious injuries to police officers and other innocent American citizens. Ayers eventually teamed up with Senator Barack Obama to work on educating our youth in Chicago.
Now, we are calling on Senator Obama to come clean to the American people about his ties with Bill Ayers, and explain when he first learned about Ayers' attack on the Pentagon and Ayers' other terrorist a ctivities.

THE FACTS

Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground got their start in domestic terror by blowing up a police memorial statue -- what they called a "pig" statue -- in Chicago.
The Weather Underground professed a hatred for American law. In 1970, they attempted to kill a New York State Supreme Court Justice and his family with a car-bomb.
In 1995, Senator Obama launched his political career in the living room of Bill Ayers' Chicago home.
Senator Obama published a rave review of Bill Ayers' book about juvenile justice in the Chicago Tribune. The book questioned the necessity of a prison system, compared America to South Africa's apartheid system, and dismissed the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.
The Obama campaign has offered at least seven different stories about Senator Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, including several different timelines about when Senator Obama learned of Bill Ayers' terrorist past.
Senator Obama said a few days ago he thought Bill Ayers was "rehabilitated." However, on perhaps the most horrific day in our nation's history, September 11, 2001, Ayers said "I don't regret setting bombs... I feel we didn't do enough" to terrorize America.
THE BOTTOM LINE

Senator Obama's explanation of his relationship with Bill Ayers is a matter of trust. If Senator Obama cannot tell the truth about his long-time relationships with Bill Ayers and ACORN, how can we trust him to be straightforward with the American people about his plan for the economy or our national security? We need a president with strong judgement and firm convictions. America cannot risk electing a president with poor judgment and blind ambition.

Maybe they are kicking it in gear ...........

Discussing this with my sons last night, 2Cents, and it seems to us that IF Obama is elected, it will be as head of a nation that no longer exists.

America was founded on the SHARED belief that all have equal rights under the law, but Obama's efforts would FORCE (taxation) producers to fund health plans, welfare plans and the UN's poverty plans, meaning that America has dissolved, transformed into something non-American with the election of Obama.

Which could trigger MASSIVE (millions per month) EXODUS of responsible, productive people to Canada and Mexico and South Korea, Thailand, Australia and other bastions of responsible free enterprise where a modicum of justice STILL ALLOWS productive people to KEEP WHAT THEY EARN!

In a few months, max, the Union of Soviet Socialist States of America would be out of money bigtime, would have a serious lack of productive people (and corporations) producing anything, and Obama would be 'forced' to once again establish American borders, with armed guards...

...to keep people IN!

Really? I'm 55, and most of the single woman I know my age have turned into "cat woman." I'm as frisky as when I was in my 20's and I just can't tone it down. I'm a talker, opinionated, lively, my mind is going in 8 directions at once. These ladies my age just have not "uumph" anymore.

At 55 I'm finally healthier than I have ever been, stoped drinking, stopped smoking, stoped eating, lost 180 pounds, no extra salt, no caffeine, nothing. NO FUN EITHER.

Geeessshhh

Last year at the Columbia U. demonstration against Ahmedenijad, when the BBC crew were coming out through the gates, I told them straight to their faces that they were nothing but liars. One got quite red in the face and asked me why I said that and I spewed off a list of things the BBC had had to retract (which, of course, I knew because of LGF). And you know what? They got upset, really upset. Nobody had ever questioned their professionalism before - they were the BBC after all. Then their driver pulled up and they got in their car and drove away, but that guy who got red in the face looked back at me clearly perturbed.

The MSM is gonna go down soon. This is gonna be their swan song.

McCain considering new economic plan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain is considering rolling out a new comprehensive economic package to tackle the U.S. financial crisis, one of his closest supporters said on Sunday.

"I think it goes along the lines that now is the time to lower tax rates for investors, capital gains tax, dividend tax rates, to make sure that we can get the economy jump-started," said Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Five killed in U.S. missile attack in Pakistan

By Haji Mujtaba

MIRANSHAH, Pakistan (Reuters) - Suspected U.S. drones fired two missile on Saturday into a Pakistani region regarded as an al Qaeda and Taliban safe haven, killing at least five militants, residents and an intelligence official said.

It was the second such attack in North Waziristan tribal region on the Afghan border this week......

The Pentagon had no comment on the report.......

Pakistan has condemned these attacks and a Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman earlier on Saturday said these strikes would neither be helpful for Pakistan nor for the United States.
"Such strikes will fuel anti-American sentiments which will neither be beneficial for us nor for the United States," the spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said.

Funny things, us conservatives...we sit around, brow beating each other over several McCain/Palin supporters making asses of themselves. And yet, as Michelle Malkin (www.michellemalkin.com) has partially summarized, the left can repeatedly threaten to assassinate a sitting President...and suffer no consequence! Here is a less threatening, yet vile and disturbing example of how the left approaches the issue of "Free Speech"...

From [Link: www.weeklystandard.com...]

Meanwhile, the Washington Post has a piece on "community activists" using peaceful and legal means to silence McCain supporters in Prince George's County:

The sign went up Sunday evening, bold black letters against the stark white background of the marquee at the Colony South Hotel & Conference Center in Clinton: "Country First. McCain/Palin."

By daybreak, pandemonium had broken loose all across heavily Democratic Prince George's County. Many local supporters of Democrat Barack Obama, jolted by the message as they headed down Branch Avenue on their Monday morning commutes, grabbed cellphones and BlackBerrys to notify friends. Operators of neighborhood e-mail group lists cried foul to their memberships. The NAACP logged calls. Community leaders demanded boycotts of the hotel, a common venue for Democratic events.

"Businesspeople have to be mindful of the sentiments and sensibilities of their market trading area, and Prince George's County is overwhelmingly for Obama," said community activist Arthur Turner of Kettering, who was among those advocating a boycott. "People I have talked to look at the sign as a slap in the face. They feel it was blatant disrespect. . . . I have heard people say they will no longer patronize Colony South because of that disrespect."

832 JacksonTn  Sun, Oct 12, 2008 10:02:10pm

The democrats who have been the "so-called" leaders of the feminist movement are showing their true colors ....... Obama ran the most sexist campaign ever against a woman ...... the democrats said nothing about it ...... only about any hint of racism would Dean raise his ugly head ....... I hope the republican men in this election ....... actually any real mean would stand up and fight for this woman ...... Sarah ...... how do you think Todd feels right about now ...... and he cannot say anything ........

I am so mad right now ........ I have to get off the computer ......
