Hey!

2 Sharmuta  Mon, Oct 13, 2008 6:39:18pm

I can't imagine why any person with integrity would want to run for office after this election cycle, and that is truly sad for America.

A good collection of anti-Obama songs, parodies and satires!

The candidates have the same background. One was indoctrinated by violent, America-hating Communists. The other was tortured by the Viet Cong.

stolen from Puma confluence: smiles at jvsp
John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama all die and go to heaven.

God looks down from his throne and asks McCain, “Do you think you deserve to be in heaven?”
McCain takes a breath and then replies, “Well, my friend, I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for the betterment of my country and what is right.”
God looks down and then says, “You can sit to my left side.”
So, McCain takes his seat.

Then God asks the same question to Hillary, “Do you think you deserve to be in heaven?”
Hillary thinks for a second and then replies, “I think so because I have fought tirelessly for the rights of so many people for so long.”
God again looks down and this time says, “You can sit to my right side.”

Finally God turns to Barack Obama and asks, “Do you think you deserve to be in heaven?”
Obama smiles and replies, “I think you’re in my seat.”

My favorite, courtesy of buzzsawmonkey on an earlier thread:

Gimme ACORN

When I was young I did despise
White folks, and so I organized
Angry ghetto communities
And trained them up to vote for me

Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
'Cause the vote will go my way

The national financial mess
Is 'cause ACORN the banks did press
So now I try to minimize
That it and I have quite close ties

Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
'Cause the vote will go my way

They sign up folks who don't exist
So that elections they can twist
But if you question my vote base
I'll say that you're obsessed by race

Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
Gimme ACORN, and I don't care
'Cause the vote will go my way

They're trying to sell Oliver Stone's "W" as a frat-type comedy, full of pratfalls and broad one-liners. They know if they present it honestly as a leftwing hit piece nobody will go to see it. They're spending a lot of money advertising it on Fox.

Question for all techies:

On NY Nan's computer, which is XP Media Center we keep getting an error message that there is something wrong with Media Center. I think that I have to repair XP Media Center from the disc that came with the computer. My question is, if I put in the disc and run 'repair' will it affect any of the files (picture, documents, etc.) on the computer. Is it a better idea to back up all these files to an external hard drive first.

I'm pondering how we could inject sanity back into our political system. How is it that our first president -- and perhaps our finest -- managed to hold the office and not only do a good job, but reject overtures for kingship?

Are we simply morally bankrupt now? Or have we built moral hazard into the system?

I think term limits for Congress would help. They get stuck into the system, drunk with power, and don't dare make any important decisions for fear their careers might falter. Term limits would preempt that.

Any other thoughts?

I never back anything up and I routinely lose all my files every 3 years or so. Burn it all to a DVD or cd's, then repair away.

Back up all you rimportant doc and pics then try and do the repair. There is a good chance that it will not work and you will end up reformatting and reinstalling Windows again. There is a very specific order that you need to do the repair procedure. Search the internet as it been a few years since I've done it .

Yes, it would be a good idea to have a backup anyway, but no, the repair shouldn't destroy your data. You will need to run Windows Update afterward, though, because doing a repair from the disc will overwrite some newer files laid down by Windows Update.

If you are getting vague error messages like that, you should back everything up before you attempt a repair. It is not difficult to make a mistake on the repair and wipe out your files.

Just think:

300 million Americans

Rule out people less than 35 and older people who are infirm and you have about 100 million possible presidential candidates. Of those, lets just say, 25% have some criminal record or other disqualifying history.

That leaves 75 million people.

Of those, lets say 0.01% have the intelligence, character traits, and education to be a good President.

That leaves 7,500 excellent Presidential candidates.

And look what happens election after election.

God must hate us.

We're morally and philosophically bankrupt. During the time of the founders reason and science were highly respected. Today everything is about how people feel. Bush was pushing "compassionate conservatism", and liberals are pushing empathy.

Hi..
First off.. here is a secret..copy and paste the error message into google.com
Technology advances..going back to the original version is usually not as good of a solution as downloading the recommended upgrade..

Term limits are a must to end this cronyism that has made our Congress into a big self serving fraternity. At least we could limit the liability somewhat when we have Jr's entering that vote "present" and do nothing more than posture themselves as a silly putty Presidential Candidate!

I can't tell you the number of times I've corrected people when they mis-speak about the Constitution. Perhaps next time the primaries can consist of the parties running around and capturing any number of unwilling participants, and then weeding them out until they get the one that says, "Okay, if you insist." We can turn it into some kind of reality TV show and just maybe get more people involved in the process.

Well, if the Bible is to be taken literally, our government is the way it is because that's how God wants it.

Proposition Eight in California was placed on the ballot by stating that marriage is defined as between one man and one woman. My Official Voter Information Guide staters the following regarding this Proposition:

Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.
Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.

I wasn't aware this right was already in the Constitution.

Thank you, Jerry Brown.

They're trying to sell Oliver Stone's "W" as a frat-type comedy, full of pratfalls and broad one-liners. They know if they present it honestly as a leftwing hit piece nobody will go to see it. They're spending a lot of money advertising it on Fox.

I saw an article this weekend that said Stone claims to be non-partisan, and the proof of that he cited was that he cut a number of over-the-top scenes from his oinker.

Right. He's about as nonpartisan as Olbermann.

The leftwing Stone doesn't take political sides despite the fact that 'W.' portrays Bush as nothing much more than a dissolute drunkard who disappoints his father as you can see in this reality challenged trailer. Here is a summary of the movie by the Sun-Times' Cindy Pearlman:

In "W.," Josh Brolin portrays the 43rd president of the United States as a beer-guzzling, hazed Yale frat guy who fails at his Daddy-pulled-the-strings jobs in the Texas oil fields, manages a baseball team in Texas and then shockingly lands at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

In between, he boozes it up, puts down the bottle, marries Laura (Elizabeth Banks), wrestles with the long shadow of his father and even finds religion at age 40. All of his White House meetings end with a quick prayer session.

...The president doesn't exactly come off like a Rhodes Scholar in the film, and his personal life isn't off limits. One scene has his daddy griping about having to deal with one of his young namesake's former girlfriends.

"What are you cut out for -- chasing tail? You're not a Kennedy. You're a Bush," fumes Cromwell.

Stone insists his film isn't a satire.

More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential battleground state, a Sun Sentinel investigation has found.

Many are faithful voters, with at least 4,900 turning out in past elections.

Another 5,600 are not likely to vote Nov. 4 — they're still in prison.

Of the felons who registered with a party, Democrats outnumber Republicans more than two to one.

Good for you to carry around a Constitution. Even those who do - like US Senators - are wont to disregard it or interpret it any way they wish.

Take for example Obama's latest idea - to engage in a 90 day moratorium on foreclosure actions. Where in the US Constitution is that allowed? It isn't, unless you get into a tortured reading of Art 1, Sec. 8, Cl 18, and reason that to do the moratorium is good for commerce, but banks would strenuously disagree, and so would most people. It's demagoguery at its worst.

Ok, in a perfect world of public office, term limits on Senators and Congress to protect the American people. There would be a cap on campaign spending which would limit how long a campaign could go on and on and on and on. There would be mandatory investigation and published facts for the public and mandatory suspension of office, whenever any Senator or Congressperson was accused of impropriety in office. And each person elected to office would have to spend time in continuing education on "How the Economy Works, 101" and other critical stuff, the entire time in office. Back to sleep zzzzzzzzz

After his explorations in 1501-1502, he was one of the first explorers to come up with the idea that these places he had visited were not part of Asia (as Columbus thought) but rather were part of a "New World." In 1507, a pamphlet was published called "The Four Voyages of Amerigo" and the author suggested that the new land that Amerigo had explored be named in his honor. At first, the name of America was only meant to apply to South America, but later on, both continents of America became known by his name.

ah, I'm not sold on term limits being a good thing, except for the Presidency, to avoid that whole "kingship" thing.

We already have a mechanism for term limits, it's called "voting".

With term limits, there is a loss of experience, institutional history and memory, that might not be the best thing.

If people vote for a corrupt offiicial, like William Jefferson, then they wpuld easily vote for a second corrupt official to replace him. Term limits will not solve that problem; it won't ensure that corrupt people aren't elected.

But it term limits just might ensure that good and experienced people would not get to continue in a job where they can do some good.

Went to the Rangers/Flyers game despite the loss it turned out to be a rousing game, but I digress. Sarah Palin dropped the puck but it was better on TV. Initially the Obamatons booed, but fans drowned them out with applause. Not necessarily politically aligned but out of decorum. The puck was dropped without fanfare, nor was there any speech given. She was in and out without much ado. The whole puck drop with carpet affair really doesn't make much sense.
One political observation, an Obamaton had an Obama mask on during the game and for some reason a fan took a dislike to it and removed it from the Obamaton and returned two pieces back. The Obamaton proceeded to spill several drinks using his oversized hockey foam hand, spilling many beverages. Security removed the face vandal and left the beverage waster.
You decide which was the more heinous crime.

In 1507, a pamphlet was published called "The Four Voyages of Amerigo" and the author suggested that the new land that Amerigo had explored be named in his honor. At first, the name of America was only meant to apply to South America, but later on, both continents of America became known by his name.

If I'm not mistaken, the author of that pamphlet was just some regular priest. I think it's fitting that America wasn't named by a king or some other elite.

I have to agree with you on the term limits, Ward. Remember when they were the political hot button years ago...what happened?

//they all remembered the longer you stay in the richer you get.

I think the fuss died down after Republicans won the House and Senate. Some states (notably Washington) tried passing laws, but they were struck down by the courts.

re: #134 itellu3times

ha! I'm thinking more along the lines of Military Pay. From the Federal budget, you (lottery winner) get a stipend for room and board -while in Washington and the rest is paid by the State coffers from whence you come.

Perhaps you could get a stipend for office expense while in Washington--one staff person per xxx people in your voting district.

I think the Federal Budget lacks oversite because it is so big --put someof this back on the States and it would be easier to manage. Just have to make sure that the Federal tax burden on the tax payer is lowered the amount the State Tax will be increased. I think once many of them get to Washington, they forget about their home state and it's needs.

I second the term limits.

And they should un-gerrymander congressional districts.

Somehow we have to attract better candidates, in both parties.

But here's the thing, our economy, our society, is a lot different now than it was two hundred years ago. I think we should learn that, from the recent financial events. Technology. We may need some serious new government organs, conservative or not. I don't have anything particular in mind - except, just maybe, and please don't shout - a national healthcare system. But that's just a sideshow, your question was about politics. We need some good ideas, is what we need.

re: #153 reine.de.tout

ah, I'm not sold on term limits being a good thing, except for the Presidency, to avoid that whole "kingship" thing.

IMHO the "loss of experience" is a non-factor.
Term limits will not ensure corrupt people aren't elected, but it will ensure they don't get entrenched.
The good and experienced people I've seen have term-limited themselves. Those people include (Colorado Senator) Hank Brown and (Tennessee Senator) Fred Thompson. Both of those went on to improve conditions as private citizens.

Also, I consider the current Congress to be akin to a "Kingship".

I guess every human endeavor is subject to human frailties, as we all too often see. I think the trick is to revere the system and the our country not for what it can do for us, but for what it allows us to do for ourselves. We take, but only a rare few ever really give back to our country. It is a symbiotic relationship, our country and ourselves - it helps us, but only if we help it.

I guess that "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" is really the goal for which we should strive and that philosophy may be the only thing that stands between us and oblivion.

Maybe McCain's "Country First" is more powerful than than your garden variety political slogan. Maybe it's a two word road map away from where we currently find ourselves.

re: #153 reine.de.tout

That latter line is the one being pushed by Bloomberg in NYC. He wants a 3d term, but the law as passed by a voter referendum limits him to 2 terms.

He says he's the only one qualified to lead the city at a time of financial upheaval on Wall Street.

I'd like folks to remember that it was smart people like Bloomberg who pushed us into this mess in the first place. Lots of smart people saw nothing wrong with subprime lending and the toxic paper produced as derivatives. Lots of money was made in good times, but the moment the housing market slowed and began retrograde, all hell broke loose.

Now, Bloomberg hopes to capitalize on people's fears to demand a 3d term.

I'd point out further that he's made some truly bad choices over the years, including mandating fuel economy standards that automakers simply can't provide because they lack the production capabilities, and his primary solution to the city's budget crunch isn't to cut spending, but to consider raising still more taxes. Only belatedly does cost control come into play.

As for term limits in general - I abhor them. The best way to deal with term limits is to vote the bums out of office. However, if the voters have passed laws that institute term limits, the only way to get around that is for the voters to change their minds and vote accordingly. Anything else is a conflict of interest that is nothing more than self-dealing (again, the NYC case).

I forget who said it, but a good rule of thumb is that no one who wants the Presidency should be allowed anywhere near it.

IMHO the "loss of experience" is a non-factor.

I'm unaware of any employer who would think it was a good idea to get rid of his experienced employees and replace them with brand-new, untried, untested employees every two to six to eight years.

The experience I'm talking about isn't just the experience of one person, it's the combined experience of people who have learned to work together in some way or another.

Term limits will not ensure corrupt people aren't elected, but it will ensure they don't get entrenched.

I agree that corrupt officials should not become "entrenched", but the solution to that is the power of the vote, not term limits. Where you live, what is the percentage of registered voters who actually vote in an election? People need to take their vote seriously enough to get out and vote. If they don't . . . well, term limits isn't going to help.

Also, I consider the current Congress to be akin to a "Kingship".

I don't think any one individual has that level of power or authority - the power and authority is institutional, it's about how one party is the majority party and one is the minority party, and it's about how the majority party wields its influence. And that will exist whether the players are all new or not.

It's not in the state constitution. What happened was that the state supreme court (lower case intended) ruled that same-sex marriages were protected by the state constitution.

What the measure intends is to add the prohibition to the state constitution so that the courts can't f**k around with it any more.

I have no problem with domestic partnerships -- in fact, I think domestic partners should be eligible for Federal spousal benefits (such as SS survivor benefits), which they're not -- but marriage is a millennia-old religious ceremony intended to help propagate the species.

Screwing around with that concept without voter input tends to piss people off, hence the ballot measure.

The situation is real bad in Florida, especially considering that they should have been embarrassed into taking action to completely overhaul the system after 2000. They didn't. They went with the high tech electronic voting machines that often don't work and need to rely on paper ballots.

But they ignored the basics of culling the voter rolls of those who died, are felons, or otherwise moved out of the jurisdiction, etc.

Election departments are always sold a marketing scheme in terms of improved voting methods. They mainly need to conserve tax dollars and hopefully try to avoid an integrity fail in an election. The bottom line is can you trust your election workers and administrators. Usually the workers yes, the administrators often lack some integrity.

A national voter id is needed. Vote at the polls. No ID, no vote. Advertise it as "being as simple to vote as getting off your ass to the polls"

I'm pondering how we could inject sanity back into our political system. How is it that our first president -- and perhaps our finest -- managed to hold the office and not only do a good job, but reject overtures for kingship

Reputedly, he was emulating the Roman hero Scipio Cincinnatus, who went back to his plowshare rather than be dictator for life. I think Washington figured his colleagues were screwing it all up, anyway, and he didn't have any desire to have his face as a symbol of the debacle to come. A military man, he probably didn't have the yen for government that the bureaucrats and rabble-rousers of the time did. Just my personal speculations, though.

Very common in sales environments.

Arguably common in tech environments, too, where three years experience is considered "senior".

Face it, nine out of ten legislators never do anything at all, no matter how long they serve, it's all their staffs and political parties and lobbyists, in the positive aspects of their jobs.

Give house member three four-year terms, and Senators two six-year terms. Twelve years is plenty enough.

Bottom line, one person one vote.

Voter fraud does more damage to our political system than all the smears, accusations, bias, etc. Win or lose a political campaign can be hard to swallow. The dilution of a single vote can never be swallowed.

Another danger is defeatism which prevents a single vote from being cast.

If you don"t vote, you have no voice, nor are you entitled to one.

Regardless of frustration, the only vote that doesn't count is one not cast.

re: #150 lawhawk

The situation is real bad in Florida, especially considering that they should have been embarrassed into taking action to completely overhaul the system after 2000. They didn't. They went with the high tech electronic voting machines that often don't work and need to rely on paper ballots.

But they ignored the basics of culling the voter rolls of those who died, are felons, or otherwise moved out of the jurisdiction, etc.

IIRC, there were numerous instances of people being registered to vote in Florida and another state (I recall NY being cited); they voted in both states.

I take it they haven't fixed that, either.

My post #267 tells what happened when I did a google on the first line.

Did you copy and paste that? The file name info doesn't look good (all runs together). It appears to be a problem with a digitally signed file (drivers are usually digitally signed, as a security measure).

How are you tonight, Walter. Are you back at work full time yet?

Yes. I was back running lights/sounds for the shows 4 days after the operation. And then this past weekend I started my full duties, which includes faciltiy maintanance stuff.

My job title is production manager/facility manager, which is a fancy way of saying I do everything from cleaning toilets to running the shows.

We only have 3 full time paid staff, other tech people are paid by project, actors get a stipend for rehearsal/show and we have a lot of volunteers.

My busy days are only Fri., Sat. and Sun., athought I have jop related things I do at home and meetings off and on.

Long answer, short answer, I'm good to go and I'm going.

Last November, Obama told the group, "I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran (the) Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work."

Obama appreciates ACORN's work so much, and vice versa, that Obama last December promised to implement ACORN's agenda as president. On Dec. 1, 2007, Obama spoke at the Heartland Democratic Presidential Forum organized by Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change. When asked if Obama would sit down with community organizers in the first 100 days of his presidency, Obama said, "Yes, but let me even say before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we'll be calling all of you (community organizers) in to help us shape the agenda."

Obama pledged before leaders of community organizing groups including Gamaliel and ACORN: "We're gonna be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America."

That's what we were afraid of.

I think that the primary differences between George Washington and every other President that came after him is that George Washington did not want the job. He viewed it more as a duty to be done then an honor to be sought.

I just bought my first book-on-tape and am listening to a wonderful narrative about the election of 1800 -- Jefferson's election. The author mentioned that both candidates, Jefferson and the incumbent Adams, actively pursued the presidency, an historic first. Prior to 1800, candidates saw the presidency as a burden, a citizen's duty.

Prior to 1800, the presidential candidates did not campaign but they did allow proxies to campaign for them.

I wish I lived in 1799.

The comparison of employees presumably chosen by an employer after an interview/selection process is not really comparable to people elected to high office. Given the oft stated question about Obama about how he ever got this far (and many reps and senators are not noticeably better) the analogy is perhaps more like the un-fireable trooper in Alaska. If the experience were all positive, yes, keep the 'employee', but if not we need a way to turn the rascals out over the inherent advantages that incumbents enjoy. Perhaps one idea would be term limits that could be overrulled by a supermajority in the popular election.

When the One declared war on the capitalists,
I sent money to ACORN and MoveOn.org;
War is Peace.

When the One called on us to shout down his critics,
I followed his commands blindly flooding the media with protests;
Freedom is Slavery.

When the One promised to meet with America’s enemies (without preconditions),
I was proud of my country for the first time in my life;
Ignorance is Strength.

When the One came for me,
it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished;
I loved Big Brother.

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

I just bought my first book-on-tape and am listening to a wonderful narrative about the election of 1800 -- Jefferson's election. The author mentioned that both candidates, Jefferson and the incumbent Adams, actively pursued the presidency, an historic first. Prior to 1800, candidates saw the presidency as a burden, a citizen's duty.

Prior to 1800, the presidential candidates did not campaign but they did allow proxies to campaign for them.

I wish I lived in 1799.

We live in momentous times now.

This is a hell of a time to be alive, even if much of it thus far seems to be about waiting for the dam to burst.

That sounds like union talk. Might as well begin the whole speech with the cliched “brothers and sister” as they do at the beginning of most political speeches given before a union audience. More specifically he would be “speaking to” NEA members. Given that you can say that Obama is partaking in typical “union speak.”

See patronizing.

There is no sanity left. My wife has remained friends with a nun she had in grammar school back in the 60's. I was home the other day and she stopped by to drop something off for my kids. I happened to be listening to Rush and he was playing a clip of Sarah Palin. Nun says "is she still talking?"...real nasty. I said I liked her and off we went. Long story short, I asked her how she can vote for a guy who fought for infanticide and she says "Well, McCain is sending our young boys off to die". Ended it there...can't curse out a nun. After she left I sucked down a few Sam Adams' to recover.

I may be naive, but I think that the failure of our schools has produced generations of people who have no idea how government works (nor do some of them care to know).

Try this little experiment: venture to a mall and have a chat with a 21 year old who is eligible to vote in this year's election, you will probably hear (like I have) "I am voting for Obama because he really speaks to me" or "Obama cares for poor and middle class people". Then bring up McCain, and you will hear something like "He's too old" or "He is only for the rich people". If you ask them to name one specific ISSUE each candidate stands for, all I've heard is "Obama will get us out of Iraq and McCain won't". As a follow-up (gotcha) question, I asked "Should Obama sit down and talk to the Iraqi President, Mr. Ahmedinejad, before he pulls out of Iraq?" and they absolutely agree...Yes, Yes, he should talk to him! I've also asked them to name ONE single Supreme Court Justice...none could tell me. Then I asked them to name either a Senator or Congressional representative of where they lived. None could tell me. And finally, I asked "What is bi-partisanship?" :-( Sad.

From 1957-1966, I attended Catholic parochial school. The nuns and teachers reigned supreme in our classrooms that held upwards of 60-70 students. It was absolutely no nonsense in the classrooms (you could hear a pin drop). Children were there to learn. Period. And the nuns constantly reminded us how much tuition our parents were paying to send us to parochial school and how many parents couldn't afford to send their children.

I still can still remember how to diagram a sentence and I remember the quadratic formula. I had to read 3 books during the summer before my 8th grade (one for each month June-August), and for extra credit we could read more. Then I had to give an oral book report standing in front of my classmates on one of the 3 books I read during vacation using only a 3x5 card for reference my notes.

But we were also taught civics, a subject that has long been removed from school curriculum. We learned about the workings of local, state, and the federal governments. We read the Constitution. And in our history classes we learned about our country's history and how the Founding Fathers crafted a marvelous document called the Declaration of Independence. Since we lived so close to Wash. D.C., we took field trips to visit the White House and the Capitol. We were encouraged to write letters to our Representatives. We elected student-candidates to represent us, held debates and conducted mock elections. We were encouraged to campaign for our candidate, too. I learned a lot about the workings of our governments.

And then I entered the public school system in 1967, and civics was an elective subject. I opted for typing class instead. The civics classes were rarely full, and only the "nerdy" kids took the class for credit. Eventually, civics classes were dropped completely from the curriculum.

The point I am trying to make is that unless school teachers intentionally teach children about the workings of our government, then they will grow up to become adults who vote for candidates because they make them feel good, or because Sean Penn is supporting them, or because a candidate has promised them something really good, but not because they understand and agree with the candidates position on an issue or on his/her platform.

I think maybe I finally understand that phrase, "Freedom is Slavery". Maybe what is meant is that they will be given goodies from the government and thus won't have to work any more. They will thus be free from work and responsibility.

And I haven't even begun to understand what he did to Hillary and the Women's movement! Talk about one nasty election season, and still we have hypnotized zombies walking around chanting "O-Bah-Ma!". And then of course there's the MSM that just let's it all slide by and then jump on Sarah Palin like she's evil for calling Barry on his connection to Ayers. I've watched this election season go by and keep thinking to myself, that I'm watching a man drown and no one's throwing him a life jacket. They're too busy complimenting the guy that threw him overboard for being such a good sport.

Barry's an empty suit with bad judgment if he's letting this kind of campaign behavior just "happen" without calling it out. But hey, he's got a Presidency to win, right? (ACK!)

...Mr. Obama has said eloquent and lofty words about education, as he has about other things - for example, how it is "unacceptable in a country as wealthy as ours" that some children "are not getting a decent shot at life" because of the failing schools.

In a predominantly black suburb of Chicago, where the average teacher's salary is $83,000 and one-fourth of the teachers make more than $100,000, Barack Obama noted that the school day ends at 1:30 p.m.

In his book "Dreams from My Father," he said candidly that black teachers and administrators "defend the status quo with the same skill and vigor as their white counterparts of two decades before." It is not a question of Mr. Obama's not knowing. He has demonstrated conclusively that he knows what is going on. But for all his eloquent words, he has voted consistently for the teachers' unions and the status quo.

"I owe those unions," he has said frankly. "When their leaders call, I do my best to call them back right away. I don't consider this corrupting in any way." Only other politicians' special interests are called "special interests" by Barack Obama, whose world-class ability to rationalize is his most frightening skill. ...

Just to ask for some Lizard input: Does anyone here think that Obama's campaign is doing more harm than good to the great strides in Civil Rights since the 50's? For instance, every time someone criticizes Barry, there is a plethora of slimy campaign hacks and MSM hacks who crawl from the bowels of the earth and pull that ugly Race card from the deck. Truly, there are things to criticize Obama on: 1. socialist economic policies 2. his questionable ties to radicals 3. his "unconditional" diplomacy talks with terrorist heads of state..I could go on...And after that Race card is flung, everyone scurries like cockroaches and rats from the kitchen light, trying to stay out sight.

It may well be that the future could resemble Fahrenheit 451, where the books not totally lost to an Alexandrian fire will be kept and passed down through the dark ages by recitation. Something would survive. There is just too much that has been printed and recorded for it all to be lost.

I can't even hang out with them anymore it's so bad.

Friends, eh.

I'm hoping Rush goes to Obama's website reads the programs he wants to implement and breaks them down, because there is a lot of scary stuff there. This information needs to be spread far and wide so that people are thinking about actual ideas and connect them to Obama, instead of "hope and change."

No, you're not wrong in this. Obama claimed to be the "post racial candidate" back in the primaries. Perhaps he should have informed his surrogates of that.

Rush (the band) -- always ahead of the curve and everyone else:

Superconductor

Packaged like a rebel or a hero
Target mass appeal
To make an audience feel
He really means it

Package the illusion of persona
Careful to conceal
The fact that she's only too real
She's got to screen it

Hit you in a soft place
A melody so sweet
A strong and simple beat
That you can dance to

Watch his every move
SUPERCONDUCTOR
Orchestrate illusions
SUPERCONDUCTOR
Watch his every move
SUPERCONDUCTOR
Hoping you'll believe
Designing to deceive
That's entertainment

He can put a target on the market
Bask in your applause
Reality withdraws
Now he believes it

The role becomes the actor
She's addicted to applause
The stage a world because
She never leaves it

Hit you in a soft place
With sentimental ease
They know the fantasies
That you romance to

Watch herhis every move
SUPERCONDUCTOR
She can manipulate reactions
SUPERCONDUCTOR
Watch herhis every move
SUPERCONDUCTOR
Pin the donkeys on herhis tail
Fantasy for sale
That's entertainment...

In fourteen hundred and ninety-two
A sailor from I-taly
Waltzed up and down the streets of Spain
And shat in every alley.
He waltzed right up to the Queen of Spain
To beg for ships and cargo,
He said, "I'll be a son of a bitch
If I don't bring back Chicago."
He said the world was round-o,
He said it could be found-o,
A hypothetical m**terb**e
Son of a bitch Columbo.

Hmmm. Ancestors is the wrong word.

Speaking of ancestors, I caught a look at a list of Gov Palin's ancestors the other day. Apparently it came up because the Moonbats are so frustrated at not finding dirt on her that they're trying to manufacture ancestral dirt. How pathetic is that?

Anyway, I noticed a familiar name - looks like the Gov and I are 10th cousins, once removed! S'pose I can get an invite to the inauguration?

Oddly, though, our common ancestor is also an ancestor of both Howard Dean and John Kerry. Maybe I should run for President, too - apparently it's a family tradition! I'm actually kind of surprised nobody familiar showed up on Obama's list (not that I'm complaining...)

He uses a lot of tricks and slight-of-hand to push the idea he's for free enterprise, when all of his policy ideas would kill ingenuity and creativity. All that the government has to do is leave us free. In fact, that's the one thing it is supposed to do, because the source of wealth is the independent mind free to innovate. Government controls just limit our ability to be creative, and when we aren't allowed to keep the fruits of our efforts, that takes away the motivation to create.

Now, extrapolate that out, and imagine all of the creative minds in America suddenly less free and less motivated to create. That will have a stifling effect on the U.S. economy and consequently on the quality of our lives.

Send the campaign a note telling them that you are a long lost shirttail relative and McCain Palin supporter who would be thrilled to attend the inaugural, if you could only get a ticket.

You have nothing to lose.

I've heard some moonbats are saying her parents were Jewish - of course, to them, it is a smear.

That reminds me - technically, didn't McCain slam Arabs recently when one of his supporters started claiming Obama was an "Arab", and McCain immediately interrupted - saying, "No, he's a good, decent person", or something like that? Seems like nobody caught that (fortunately)...

Funny thing is, I've heard if said that Obama's 7/16 Arab, but I haven't seen anything to back that up. Kenya is certainly close enough to the Middle East that there could be something to it. Either way, I wonder how many African-Americans realize he has no slave ancestry (althought I don't suppose they care).

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Edward & Margaret Griswold (our common ancestors) were New England WASPs. So I can vouch for that 4096th of her ancestry (or whatever it comes out to). :-)

If you haven't seen it, the WSJ is hopping on the Osama-ACORN bandwagon.

Acorn is spending $16 million this year to register new Democrats and is already boasting it has put 1.3 million new voters on the rolls. The big question is how many of these registrations are real.

After citing chapter and verse, they continue:

The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.

What was that Wright said about chickens and roosts?

Alas ! Back on 9/06 I asked for this:
Connect the dots...anybody ?
And tonight I get directed here:
Connected !
Yippeee ! A nice flow chart that any prosecutor would be proud of.
Anybody hear the O'Reilly/Williams exchange tonight ?
J.W. "Bill, you don't really believe Obama is down with Ayers' political views do you ?"
B.O. "No, absolutely not - that would be absurd"
I feel like everyone from McCain to O'Reilly are trying to convince me I don't see what I think I see.... WTF ?
I'm normally confident about most things and trust my instincts. On the rare occasion that I've been twisted to not trust them (instincts) the eventual vindication wasn't enough. Its the crummy feeling though in the mean time waiting to see if you were right all along. In this case it could be months. I also do not want to ever be on a "side" that is spewing BS, saying/doing anything just to win or, just being gullible and drinking the kool aid with the likes of those that conduct themselves in this manner.I've always thought of this site as a "sure thing". The "48 hour rule" is one of the reasons. For my own sanity though I need to check in now - 'cause its getting too deep or, should I just say "it is getting deep". So here goes:
The stink surrounding the chosen one:
Is it at least as bad as an end run to force "Socialism" down our throats through lies, deception and cover up ?
On the economy of late:
On one hand McCain named Dodd & Frank. I was all too happy to hear that because I've been running my mouth about the 2 myself. But then we have him and O'Reilly (I very seldom watch 'The Factor") coming on and saying there is nothing connecting Obama & Ayers philosophically/politically and siding with Williams.
I wonder if my imagination hasn't gotten the best of me. I would love to hear McCain spell it all out just so I can "clear house" here - dispel that what is a dead end and pursue that which needs pursuing if one wants to be "connected" with the reality one exists in.
I did read that Corsi has come down sick after all he's been through while abroad. THAT really had me wondering if I was getting so worked up that I was misunderstanding what I was hearing ! I'm still surprised Hannity didn't mention it today (unless he addressed it at length Friday night (?). I'm also putting much into the current and ongoing investigations into ACORN/voter fraud. I was hoping Mr. Rezko would shed a little more light on the "goings on" in Chi Town. I don't want to be here in 2 weeks depressed after learning all these "trails" were hyped only to find out they led to a dead end. Its one thing to legitimately "lose", another to lose after selling your soul to win. I believe in a clean fight and may the best man win. If there is corruption etc., it should be exposed and to me its still fighting fair and fair game. I know Charles wants to keep it above the belt and is lamenting the idiots that are making headlines. Maybe this is all a long winded way of asking (for instance the chart link above) am I going too far out there or are all these elements (the "dots") within reason by fair and objective standards ?

Keep in mind - I have absolutely no one in my life to bounce these thoughts off of so I do it here and depend on "you". It can get difficult at times.

Regardless of the outcome of this race the News Media, television and print, must pay for their utter disregard of fairness and truth.
Most conservatives have been aware of the slanted picture the News Media presents to the American public but it has gone beyond any reasonable bounds into the realm of propaganda and borders on treason.

THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY CONSERVATIVES.

A boycott of all purchased services provided by all of the Liberal News Media must begin immediately. Since the First Amendment disallows, with good reason, any restrictions on them by government, then it is up to the public to punish them for their blatant manipulation, through omission or commission, of the facts concerning all the candidates. They no longer should be given the benefit of the doubt and should be assumed to be lying in some manner about all of their "reporting". Anyone who disagrees should reexamine these past months and explain in what particular I am in error.

The audio-visual entertainment industry, either owners of or participants in the News Media, should also be part of this boycott. Their money, influence and other resources have been made available to the liberal left for many years now. They have become a consistent source of propaganda and lies concerning this country and conservatism. They must be deprived of as much of their profits as are accounted for by conservatives. We have given our enemies the resources to defeat us and destroy this country just as the buying foreign oil funds the terrorists and other enemies of this country.

Remind your family and friends of like-mind to do what they can to avoid putting anymore cash into the pocket of those who will destroy our way of life.

re: #592 jcw46

Dead on. They undermine the very foundation of our democracy by actively skewing the information we need to make informed decisions on. They do as much, if not more damage by their omissions or silencing of information.
Case in point - something I heard tonight from Mary Catherine Hamm on O'Reilly - regarding the Obama Ayers connection and the way the mainstream media is downplaying it. Consider what would happen if McCain had associated with an unrepentant abortion clinic bomber - the clamor would be deafening and he literally would be forced out of the race in days. They have a tremendous power and wield it with impunity.

They need to be hammered......

re: #593 David Baker

How did McCain become such a gutless wonder? What did we miss along the way, certainly not his years as a senatorial back slapper. And where does he come off calling himself a maverick, when he's been nothing more than a go-along to get-along political punk.

Sir, I think you are being a little hard on McCain. True, most of us are very disappointed in him, but he is fighting an uphill battle with Obama's thugs and the MSM against him. Also being used against McCain is the Race card. Every time Mac gets some good attacks in, the Obama supporters scream RACISM at the top of their lungs.

McCain is navigating a slippery slope. Let's have a little more faith.
Just my two cents, you don't have to take my advice.

I've often wondered why liberals seem to congregate in cities - too many rats in a cage maybe? I grew up in Chicago where you have to go underground to be a Republican but the rest of the state is mostly Repub....to no avail since Chicago's numbers drown them out

Militay pay and military housing. Let them live like we do. Let them work the way my husband does. Let them eat MRE's for a while and try to get a generator that works so they can have electricity or scavage supplies so they can build a walkway so they don't have to walk through the mud. Let them live like the people who are willing to die for our freedoms, see if that changes their tune.

re: #600 LGoPs

If I'm allowed to generalize for a bit...*winks* Liberals prefer the "big city" because it's urban and more cultured. Rednecks live in the country, and don't wonder into the city very often, and if they do, they stay at the country and western bars. Libs don't do country and western, it's "low class". Being a liberal is all about being Intellectual, and Hip. You can't be that if you live in Podunkville, surrounded by farmers and truck drivers! LOL

Or at least, that's how my liberal friends would describe it to me.

Sir, I think you are being a little hard on McCain...

I don't think so, he never misses a chance to sabotage himself. He's as intuitive as a block of wood, and has stacked himself up to be even more dangerous than Obama. Frankly, would you trust him with... anything?

If he can't figure out how to deal with a Chicago street organizer, he doesn't belong anywhere near a serious challenge. He's just too feckless.

(Thanks for your input)

I hate twisting the language like that

Please, oh please, walk me through your reasoning -- how exactly does the phrase same-sex couple amount to a "twisting of the language"?

Do you actually think that same-sex couple is in some way an Orwellian euphemism, rather than a straightforwardly literal description?

Yes, I would trust him. I don't trust Zero-Bama and his merry band of marxists-socialists one bit. McCain is fighting against the spectre of BDS that has clouded every good American's mind in this country. He's fighting against people who want to see him roll over. The fact that he hasn't rolled over gives me hope.

I have to have faith, if I don't, then what do I have left? I refuse let some jackass empty suit with a closet full of socialist fascism filled to the brim into the White House without at least standing up. That way, when they do come to shut me down, I have my self-respect.

We must support McCain, it is too late to bitch. This is the home stretch. Shit or get off the pot.

True, I can offer no viable alternative. We're caught in the classic Catch-22, the Marxists vs. The Walking Cadaver.

But who knows, maybe I'll snap out of it. Still, I wouldn't blame Sarah one little bit for getting as far away from that back-slapping, beltway clown ASAP. McCain is a gross insult to a woman like her.

But if she hangs in there, I'll cast my vote for that fool in the hope he gets a debilitating heart attack on inauguration day.

re: #2 Sharmuta

I can't imagine why any person with integrity would want to run for office after this election cycle, and that is truly sad for America.

If those with integrity don't run, then the battle is lost. I myself decided to run for town council this year to ensure fiscal responsibility is not forsaken in these lean times and make sure the entire town is heard, not just a vocal minority. It has been an eye opening experience, mostly positive responses from the residents as I walk the entire town to hand out brochures and discuss concerns.

I do understand your comment, here in Florida we have had some nasty campaigning for several races. It is a shame candidates have been allowed to run dirty campaigns (many times airing falsehoods) to smear the opposition instead of discussing their platforms. Seems we have 'truth in advertising' laws when it comes to products we buy, but not for politicians ads...where it is needed most.

Christopher Buckley said he's going to vote for Obama because he thinks he won't really govern from the left just because he's spent his adult life building a power base composed of neo-Leninists and Black Power radicals.

When you consider that, if elected, he's going to have a cabinet full of leftist cronies, and a rubber stamp Congress, I don't think that a Hugo Chavez type scenario is that unthinkable.

Like so many others, I think Mr. Buckley is ashamed of conservatism--no doubt considers himself a libertarian which has a much better chache. Okay. And, it is really the height of intellectual fashion to "plump" for Obama--"McCain is so, well, frumpy. And that troglodyte fundie female with the glasses! One despairs, really. No, Obama will make all sorts of satisfying noises for the most radical left, but the good counsel of his Democratic colleagues, the wiser and cooler heads in governance and statecraft, will carry the water on policies that actually matter."

re: #52 Cognito

I'm pondering how we could inject sanity back into our political system. How is it that our first president -- and perhaps our finest -- managed to hold the office and not only do a good job, but reject overtures for kingship?

Are we simply morally bankrupt now? Or have we built moral hazard into the system?

I think term limits for Congress would help. They get stuck into the system, drunk with power, and don't dare make any important decisions for fear their careers might falter. Term limits would preempt that.

Any other thoughts?

The common thread of shared values and perceptions has been unraveled. Moral relativism, and the unyielding lens of 21st Century leftist deconstruction of history has fully triumphed. We have no unifying, positive, shared history or vision. America is now among her own children, the hateful, oppressive, venal bully of neo-Marxian propaganda. "Racist America, greedy America, gluttonous and callous America, preening exceptionalist America!" Every schoolchild knows the founding fathers were not good people, they were brutal and corrupt.

Case in point: Brookheiser [sp?] was on Colbert Report a few weeks back, about his newly released George Washington biography. Colbert couldn't eviscerate Washington fast enough, he was so not-impressed with our First President. When Brookheiser pointed out that the first President refused to be named monarch, or made President for life, Colbert jumped like a snake on a titmouse, his ivory fangs grinning widely, "Ah, Yes! He was the slave owner President!" "Oh, Yes he freed his slaves--AFTER he died and didn't need to USE them anymore!"

Nice work Stephen. Nice fat bank account for you, plus cut another fraudulent myth down to size, way to make sure we only have the most cynical and self-hating consensus available.
/rant off/ I can't watch Colbert anymore, he has grown so utterly precious

I'm not exactly encouraged these days. For the longest time, I kept saying that this was going to turn our way. I knew that the MM polls were all biased and filled with disinformation but I still believed. Now, I'm not so sure McCain is going to pull it out.

When I go to work, it's depressing. People who hated Obama just a few weeks ago, and swore they'd never vote for him, are now planning to do so, just out of spite, from what I can see.

I tell them, it's the liberals fault. They don't listen. They don't like McCain no matter what, even when I tell them what he went through at the Hanoi Hilton. It's like they're brainwashed. "Thats old news" they say when I tell them McCain is a war hero and would be much better at standing up to our enemies.

My wife said to me last night, "You know, if you're not discouraged, you're probably not watching the news or reading the papers." She might be right. I'm wondering if it might make more sense for us to be sending money to our favorite Senate and House candidates these days.

McCain is probably done, much as I hate to admit it. But maybe he brought it on himself when he failed to run a conservative campaign.
