Hey RW.. It's better to get that lose over with now..The pressure on the colts going undefeated throughout the year was way too much for any team to bear..Look at the pats last year..too much pressure..
The Giants are going to the Superbowl. ( barring injury of course )
It's not worth the spotlight of being the only undefeated Superbowl champ..24/7..

People that can do this always amaze me. I've mastered the coordination to master complex game ad other machine controls but have a complete tin ear. Love good music but pretty sure it's outside my abilities to play it just as much as to be an NFL receiver.

Can we take these peoples abilities and give them to the rest of us? I can make my own money but not my own music.

Charles "Icarus" Johnson

Even listeners who find everything to do with fusion stupid will have to admit this guitarist was smart taking on a far-out nickname that results in many of his credits reading Charles "Icarus" Johnson. As long as the "Icarus" part is in there, it is easy to tell him apart from many other performers with the same name, including the famous guitarist and singer from the gospel group the Sensational Nightingales. Of course, the music itself is a further dead giveaway, the expression chosen in order to hint at a state the aforementioned listeners might rather find themselves in than listening to any of this Johnson's efforts.

Fans of fusion, on the other hand, will point at Johnson's hands and describe the searing lead guitar passages they have created since his tenure with Stanley Clarke from the mid-'70s onward. In addition, he has shown his versatility by adapting to the many demands of a bandleader such as vocalist Al Jarreau and has also played the band game as a member of Pages, an ensemble featuring Jarreau as well as a host of Los Angeles session hotshots. "Automatic" is one of the compositions Johnson co-wrote while flipping through Pages. A single anecdote pinpoints this artist's stature in the music business: he has the clout to borrow an amp from pianist George Duke for a gig. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide

/I'm pretty sure he still get's his fair share of royalty checks

Seeing Red on this one.....

The girl told deputies her mother disciplined her by restricting her water intake, and was primarily given toast to eat. She said she hadn't seen a doctor in several years.

She and her 12-year-old brother were taken from the home by Child Protective Services and the girl was admitted to Children's Hospital for treatment of severe malnutrition. She was in the hospital for two weeks.

During the investigation, investigators said they found the girl's mother restricted her water intake to about half of a small Dixie cup per day. The mother only let the girl shower every two or three weeks, and watched her during each shower and bathroom break to keep the girl from surreptitiously drinking water, Urquhart said. "She looked more like she was 8 or 9 years old. Clearly very, very malnourished," Urquhart said. "All of her teeth had to be either pulled or capped

Well, ok, it is Slate after all, but still stuff like this:

Last week's so-called town-hall event showed Sen. John McCain to be someone suffering from an increasingly obvious and embarrassing deficit, both cognitive and physical. And the only public events that have so far featured his absurd choice of running mate have shown her to be a deceiving and unscrupulous woman utterly unversed in any of the needful political discourses but easily trained to utter preposterous lies and to appeal to the basest element of her audience. McCain occasionally remembers to stress matters like honor and to disown innuendoes and slanders, but this only makes him look both more senile and more cynical, since it cannot (can it?) be other than his wish and design that he has engaged a deputy who does the innuendoes and slanders for him.

Michigan has become, under the last eight years of Democrat leadership, including representation at the state and federal levels, all of the following:

• 50th in the nation in personal income growth.

• 50th in the nation in its unemployment rate.

• 50th in the nation in employment growth.

Regardless of the outcome of this race the News Media, television and print, must pay for their utter disregard of fairness and truth.
Most conservatives have been aware of the slanted picture the News Media presents to the American public but it has gone beyond any reasonable bounds into the realm of propaganda and borders on treason.

THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY CONSERVATIVES.

A boycott of all purchased services provided by all of the Liberal News Media must begin immediately. Since the First Amendment disallows, with good reason, any restrictions on them by government, then it is up to the public to punish them for their blatant manipulation, through omission or commission, of the facts concerning all the candidates. They no longer should be given the benefit of the doubt and should be assumed to be lying in some manner about all of their "reporting". Anyone who disagrees should reexamine these past months and explain in what particular I am in error.

The audio-visual entertainment industry, either owners of or participants in the News Media, should also be part of this boycott. Their money, influence and other resources have been made available to the liberal left for many years now. They have become a consistent source of propaganda and lies concerning this country and conservatism. They must be deprived of as much of their profits as are accounted for by conservatives. We have given our enemies the resources to defeat us and destroy this country just as the buying foreign oil funds the terrorists and other enemies of this country.

Remind your family and friends of like-mind to do what they can to avoid putting anymore cash into the pocket of those who will destroy our way of life.

Still and all, given that the Obama has decided to manifest his support for campaign finance reform by accepting contributions from tens of thousands of "Americans" (they were too, they checked off "I am an American Citizen") in Iran Syria, Gaza and Tunisia and by reneging on his promise to accept public financing, I would think that McCain could spend a few thousand bucks there - not with any hope of winning, but because "giving up" on Michigan sends a horrible message for his campaign.

The only one that I now about is called Hustler. He probably has others, though.

You shouldn't be buying Hustler just on general principles in any case, regardless of the publisher's politics.

But, but, if you disagree with them or criticize them or take away their livelihood you are engaging in censorship and depriving them of their constitutional rights.

Watergate has become the revisionist preference of so called American educators. From my understanding it takes up a good portion of history books today including “The Reagan Years.” In essence then the accepted academic norm is to instill a negative review of Republicans since the days of Watergate.

Given this, Republicans by way of Nixon has become the perennial straw man of the academic left that permeates our institutions today and subsequently the mores of youth today.

Yeah, I thought that was the case -- from my vantage point last night (as I mentioned) it looked like they were all going to be spared.

Hitchens of course isn't exactly an atheist. He's an anti-theist. More than likely he fears Palin's past experience with Pentecostalism.

I certainly hope that Hitchens realizes that he is endorsing Diversity Inc. which in my estimation will lead to the local codification of Sharia-Like laws and their subsequent normalization.

Hitchens has a tendency towards cluelessness depending on his state and hedonistic intent.

Hi Irene - well I for one pray it will remain a cold civil war but I suspect all bets are off the table about that if Obama wins - especially if he wins some true battleground states because of ACORN or ACORN type fraud.

I can just see a hastily armed force of media-conformist lefties laying siege to some anti-Obama enclave, perhaps one that is suspected of harboring fugitives like GW Bush and D Cheney.
This people's militia would arrive chanting and singing, spiffed out in new uniforms (Chebama t-shirt and BDU pants) and on fire with the righteous zeal of revolutionary change, but they would mutiny the first time they missed a mandatory bathroom break or had to go three days without Starbuck's. What they might actually do with their weapons doesn't bear thinking about. When faced with the inevitable disaster, their first impulse will be to call for a UN peacekeeping force but that will bring them another rude surprise.
To paraphrase Abe Lincoln, the combined armies and police forces of Eurabia could not fight their way from Galveston to Crawford in 100 years even if civilians were the only opposition.

I never thought Hitchens would endorse McCain. First, because when all is said and done, he is a leftist. Second, he has always had deep feelings for his non-white brothers. Third, I think he's tired of being ignored by his old friends and receiving all the adulation that he did previously. It's hard to go from the tippity top of the heap to being scorned and ignored.

This same guy has tried to argue that the "Cold War" as a construct of the "industrial military complex" and all the "stories" (gulags, 100 million + dead) are propaganda to keep us in fear, so he war profiteers could get rich. Nothing to fear from communism says he.

I really quit trying for the most part at that point, where do you start deconstruction a world view like that?

I have to think that this 'worldview' is just openly dishonest. On paper, forget in practice, Communism espouses the absolute need for wide spread murder of dissenters, even peaceful dissenters. It makes no bones about any other options. Communism's built in mechanism for dealing with the types of people that are given to gaming the system to get ahead, is murder.

The theory being that eventually you can kill enough entrepreneurial and opportunistic people that there just will not be any more. That eventually after enough institutionalised murder society will deliver a 'New Man'. Of course, Communism fails to address the kind of 'New Man' you will arrive at in this society built on a genocidal bloodlust directed against relatively common human behavior. Apparently he will be extremely self-sacrificing in regards to sharing the fruits of his labor with others to alleviate suffering from deprivation, but conversely find human suffering that derives from actual physical oppression and murder morally acceptable, or possibly even virtuous. Of course, no one ever accused Karl Marx of being a genius. Oh wait...

Where exactly do these peace loving Communists really think that the ideology goes? There is this common meme that 'Communism works on paper'. I guess it does if you are an idiot.

My feelings exactly which is what motivated me to say that. Hitchens has proven that he is at the very least a feeble alley of even the least of conservative values. I suppose sometimes that the 911 Conservatives can only go thus far and Hitchens has proven that considering his pandering endorsement of Barack Obama on the questionable site, Slate. Over time I suspect that anyone can be corrupted and Hitchens has proven that he is corruptible.

Of all people I would expect to see Hitchens see the parallels between the Labour Party of the UK and Barack Obama. In the end he reverts to an analysis based on American popular culture and a blindness towards that which he pretends to espouse.

His book “God is Not Great” is simply boring. I believe that Hitchens only writes for himself and that mostly he just likes to hear himself speak. A charlatan indeed.

I had Israel Kirzner as an economic professor back in the day. He started off the course by writing a freedom line on the board. On the very left was communism on the very right capitalism with everything in between. He then superimposed on top of every economic system the level of individual liberty/freedom for each one. Needless to say, communism had total state coercion, even death matched up with it.

OMG, the Marxists in class went crazy. They were literally leaping out of their seats. I was actually scared at the reaction - it was the first time I saw students in class go berzerk.

Unreal... New 8th Grade English Textbooks Now Contain 15 Page Section on Obama!

Related details from the REAL DEBATE WISCONSIN site:

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!

My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son's new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin - McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama.

I was shocked - No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush - Just Barack Obama. I'm wondering how it is that Obama's story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his "Life of Service". Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an [Link: www.obama2004.com...] sign.

Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid's throats? All the kids grouped together and read the story. After that, they discussed it... I guess it appears that Obama is planning ahead. If he doesn't get his coveted Presidency, Obama is going to make sure, that the younger generations know all about him, and his "life of service".

If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online. There is a note in the book that says, For more on Barack Obama, visit the Literature Center at [Link: www.ClassZone.com...] The book is: Wisconsin - 8th grade - McDougal Littell Literature - copyright 2008. The Obama story starts on page 830. I hope you will take the time to look at this book. I'm really angry about this - In fact, I would love to rip the pages right out of this book.

By the way, you might find this interesting: I did a little checking on McDougal Littell, and it appears that MCDOUGAL, ALFRED L CHICAGO , IL 60611 - N/A/RETIRED has been making contributions to Barack Obama's campaign!

I found that information on this website.
[Link: www.newsmeat.com...]
Now I'm not an expert at these things (just a PTA mom), but It looks to me like Alfred McDougal is connected to McDougal Littell the same company that publishes the 8th grade textbook that has 15 pages on Obama. Like I said, I'm not an expert, but I'm sure you have someone who can delve into the dirty little details.

I guess my question is: Is it ethical for an Obama supporter to publish an educational book which has a 15 page Barrack Obama story in it? If the tax payers are paying for these books, why is it okay for McDougal Littell to promote Obama? This really bothers me. I would have no problem with it, if Obama had actually done something important. Why is Obama being put up on a pedestal, before he actually wins the pedestal? All I can say, is we can thank the liberal media, and now the liberal book publishers. Thanks to them, I'm sure there are probably thousands of these books all across the United States.

Isn't the USA the only country in the world where the civilians are legally allowed to own all manners of firearms? That in itself should give any one pause for thought. . . . .

Not "any manner" but there are more than enough to do the job. It is illegal to own a machine gun, for instance, but this can still be done by paying a $300 fee and registering the weapon.
Lefties are preparing a major push against privately-held firearms, targeting not the guns themselves but their ammunition. They advocate prohibitive taxes, impractical technical requirements, and selective application of consumer safety regulations to shut off the supply of ammo to those wicked gun-clinging right-wingers out here.
Unfortunately for would-be leftist enforcers, there is a great deal they don't understand about this. Suffice to say that most serious gun owners can re-load fired cartridges and many can make their own bullets. A small percentage (but still a very significant number) have the tools and know-how to manufacture ammunition and even guns from scratch in clandestine workshops. Guns and ammunition are not rocket science, it is a venerable technology, and the knowledge of that technology is ubiquitous in this part of the world.

Great paraphrased quote!

But what was the original quote you were paraphrasing?

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some trans-Atlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us with a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined with a Bonaparte at their head and disposing of all the treasure of the earth, our own excepted, could not by force make a track on the Blue Ridge or take a drink from the Ohio in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up from amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we must live through all times, or die by suicide."

It could be possible that it become a case of professional anti-trust. Since the educational material these educators present are for the benefit of their own gain. It could be argued that since Obama represents a prejudiced partisan inclination towards the said teachers own self interest. Etc.

You can petition for an opposing view which should be the standard. An ethical educator would provide a medium that include opposing views. Of course keep in mind that activist socialism does not by nature allow for the presentation of opposing views.

They had just started the indoctrination in our kids school when they attended (1990's) and they reported what was being taught. I had to explain things to them at the level they could understand to keep them balanced. When they got out of school, all three of them started watching for themselves and are now very conservative. As I said on another thread, one is just to the right of Ghengis Khan. Have to bring him back a bit sometimes.

This is Charles with Stanley Clarke in Tokyo, but it's mostly from the back so you can't really recognize him.

Here's another version of the same photo on the official Stanley Clarke site. On the gallery page, it's called "Stanley and Icarus jammin' Tokyo."

Can't find the one good photo showing Charles and Stanley from the front, however. Drat.

Here is Charles (far left of the photo) in his late-70s band "Pages." Taken from a Pages fan site (it's MySpace page, so don't click unless you can handle their feature-laden site):

Pages Fan Site.

Pages, the one of the best AOR group cannot be forgotten among us.
In 1977, Pages released their debut single "I Get It From You" c/w "If I Saw You Again" produced by Bobby Colomby. And their first album "Pages"(Original Vinyl: Epic, USA 35459, Reissued CD: Epic Europe 475861 2 (1994) was followed.
Their highly sophisticated jazz-influenced progressive rock music with Westcoast harmonies was as remarkable as Steely Dan in late 70's.

The original members of the group were as below:
Richard Page: Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards
Steve George: Keyboards, Vocals
Peter Leinheiser: Guitars
Jerry Manfredi: Bass
Russ Battelene: Drums

In 1979, Pages released the excellent second album "Future Street" (Original Vinyl: Epic USA 36209, Reissued CD: Epic Sony, Japan ESCA5888 ) including their masterpiece tune "Who's Right, Who's Wrong".
You can find Charles Icarus Johnson as the guitarist of Pages replacing Peter Leinheiser and George Lawrence joined as a new drummer on this album. Although both of Epic albums were really excellent, they were underestimated.
Pages signed with Capitol Records for releasing their third album "Pages"

I can't find the YouTube video with Charles in the white tux, but he's on this track:

L.A. COWBOYS - ENDLESS SUMMER
(Click "more info" for list of band members, including Charles.)

Finally, his wikipedia page mentions his music career:

Charles Johnson was born in New York and raised in Hawaii. He launched his first career (as a jazz guitarist) in the mid-1970s. Extensive recording credits include at least three albums that went gold: Reach For It by George Duke, School Days by Stanley Clarke, and Live in London by Al Jarreau.

There's plenty more, but that should convince any doubters.

Happy Halloween.

what's interesting is the number of Obanal ads we're getting here in Lost Angels...... that would seem to be carrying coals to newcastle, except for an interesting experiment i conducted fryday evening.

HRH and i stopped at McCormick & Schmits at a mall near Dingyland after we left the convention. while we were inside snacking and slaking our thirst, someone walked a big dog down the sidewalk, with the predictable side effect.

we were headed to the car ande noticed the gift, as we passed, i told the oncoming party "watch out for the Obama." they laughed.

we then realized that we hadn't gotten our parking validated, so we turned back, and met another party coming towards us, so i repeated my warning. more laughter.

after getting our stamps, we headed back, and the scene repeated itself.

now, if the zero is *that* popular, you'd think at least one person out of all those spoken too would have taken offense or at least said something......

And now, a little non-political story that may just put a smile on your face:

Housekeepers at Beckham mansion arrested for 'stealing items and then selling them on eBay'

A couple who worked as housekeepers at David and Victoria Beckham's mansion have been arrested on suspicion of stealing personal items from them for sale on eBay.

Victoria's parents Tony and Jackie Adams raised the alarm after they spotted trinkets and items of clothing for sale on the internet auction site which they recognised.

When Mr and Mrs Adams travelled to the Beckhams' seven-bedroom home they discovered the items were missing and alerted police last Friday.

So, sports star David Beckham had personal property stolen from him, and the thieves' intention was to sell it as sports memorabilia. Yet, somehow, David Beckham will be getting his property back while not risking a single day of jail and/or prison time.

O.J. Simpson, you may want to study this story carefully!

Interesting- even the 0bama people think the polls are whacked:

Buoyed by encouraging poll numbers -- today's ABC News/Washington Post poll has Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., beating Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, 53% to 43% -- lots of Obama backers out there seem to think this thing is over.

Sen. Hillary Clinton's senior adviser Howard Wolfson today writes "A PreMortem for The McCain Campaign," stating, "The economic crisis dealt the McCain campaign a fatal body blow." He goes on to explore what McCain should have done differently.

That's not what lots of smart folks in the Obama campaign think. They believe Obama's poll numbers are artificially high, McCain's are artificially low, this race will come down to two or three points, and anything could happen.

Hey you, infidel! Get the fook out! Iran Urges Outsiders to Leave Region

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has urged outsiders to leave the Middle East, saying it would be the best choice before them.

"Those who have come to the region from tens of thousands of kilometers away are after their illegal and illegitimate interests by imposing their will on regional nations and countries," Mottaki said in a joint press conference with the Leader of Lebanon's Free Patriotic Movement Michel Aoun in Tehran on Monday.

Polls all ACORN'd up?

Bookie makes a very interesting point about a possible "Dewey Beats Truman" thingy going on.

Incidentally, everyone talks about ACORN creating fraudulent registrations, but no one talks about the fact that they are all Democratic registrations. As someone said in a comment, that’s got to affect all the polling, because the polls are weighted in favor of Democrats now to reflect all these so-called registered Democrats. If these people don’t show up on election day (since even the most fervent fraudsters will have a hard time showing up in 72 places on one day), well, it may be a reprise of “Dewey beats Truman.

My instincts tell me at the most we are only talking a percent or two in the polls in just a few states max - but we are in many ways in terra incognita here WRT Chicago politics on a national scale.

Makes you go hmmmmmmmmm....

Time to bring back one of my favorite bets. A while back, a buddy of mine mentioned that he saw a picture of Truman holding up a newspaper with the headline, "Dewey Beats Truman". I bet him he couldn't show me such a picture in one week that hadn't been photoshopped. He bet me $10 that it was a real picture.

He came back the following week, handed me $10 and told me to shut up about it.

(The headline actually reads "Dewey Defeats Truman", not "Beats".)

"you implied that this video was inaccurate, and im merely pointing out that its not."

I then responded with;

"And I'm saying that after all the stuff I've told you discounting all of this type of mumbo-jumbo and you discounting those morsels of information, I can just as easily discount these too.

It's cool dude, whatever. You can believe what you want to believe. After all, who am I to say anything? You can go ahead supporting a guy who is most obviously a socialist, who's been around radicals, and racists his whole life, who's been collaborative with people who have DIRECTLY CAUSED OUR FINANCIAL CRISIS, who's been around mobsters, and who has been more than "sort of connected" to a group with a LONG HISTORY of voter fraud, intimidation, and corruption.

You want me to prove them? I already have. It's up to you to listen."

----

Then I added with your suggestion;

"BTW, since you're so hell bent on proving his experience, link me to one substantial, and I really mean substantial piece of legislative that came STRAIGHT from Barack Obama's pen. That's all I want.

You can sit on committees all you want, but when you vote present most of the time, and declare your candidacy for President halfway through your ... FIRST term of being in the Senate, those don't mean a damn thing."

I don't have a link on hand, but I've read up on him. He introduced legislation that made videotaping interrogations and confessions mandatory in capital crime cases, which I agree with (although I'd add the provision that the video be available only to the defense and prosecution and not the jury). That was as a State Senator.

He also introduced legislation for greater transparency of government spending, ironically along with John McCain and Tom Coburn, as a US Senator, which I also agree with. I don't remember the name of the bill, but it mandates disclosure of all federal spending and also searchable on the internet.

He also has a bill in committee right now that deals with illegalizing the kind of voter fraud ACORN engages in, which is a big lulz. Kind of funny that the reason we probably know how much public money is going to ACORN is in part thanks to Barack Obama. Bet he is kicking himself now.

Like I said, most of his bills are typical Democrat stuff. Green legislation designed to funnel public money to partisan organizations, etc.

The Republican US presidential candidate John McCain was not tortured during his captivity in North Vietnam, the chief prison guard of the jail in which he was held has claimed.

In an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Nguyen Tien Tran acknowledged that conditions in the prison were "tough, though not inhuman". But, he added: "We never tortured McCain. On the contrary, we saved his life, curing him with extremely valuable medicines that at times were not available to our own wounded."

re: #414 aboo-Hoo-Hoo

They had this story on MSNBC I think it was. They actually interviewed his the NVA Hanoi-Hilton guards on televion, that of course engaged in the kind of truthfulness and honesty that we can all trust, as has historically been the case with all information that comes out of Communist nations by way of officers of their governments.

Really sick stuff. Then again, these are the same 'journalists' that are 'embedded' with terrorists and videotape them in the process of committing terrorist attacks.
