Secret Service: No One Shouted 'Kill Him' at McCain Rally

Politics | Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 9:30:03 am PDT

If you need any more evidence that you cannot trust the media in this election, here you go.

All week, every media organization in America has been endlessly repeating that someone shouted “Kill him” at a Sarah Palin rally when Barack Obama’s name was mentioned. As Jake Tapper might say, they were all “atwitter” about it, and used this incident to promote the view that McCain and Palin were deliberately inciting “dangerous extremism.”

Just one little problem. The Secret Service investigated the incident, interviewed security agents and dozens of audience members, and the only person in that whole crowd who heard “Kill him” was ... the reporter, David Singleton of the Scranton Times-Tribune.

It’s a phony story.

Secret Service says ‘Kill him’ allegation unfounded.

SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him.“

News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.

Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.

“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.

He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.

Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”

UPDATE at 10/16/08 9:39:06 am:

And in a little bit of irony, look who got all atwitter at the “Kill him” story: Jake Tapper.

The Center for Media and Public Affairs, a media analysis group, kept a tally of jokes told about the presidential contenders on the "Late Show" and "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" in the five weeks after McCain chose Sarah Palin to be his running mate and vaulted the little-known Alaska governor into the national spotlight.

The total: Republicans, 286. Democrats, 42.

You know folks, we are in big trouble if Chairman Obama gets elected. It has been slowly happening over the years, but we can certainly now say that the media has become a real fifth estate in our country, working totally for the left. And, if we get a "all left, all the time" government out of the next election, they will start working on locking down any other source of free speech.

At one time I would have thought that this idea was a little to out there to really have any feet, but, what I am seeing in this election cycle, the MSM may as well just put up a sign that says "Welcome to the Ministry of Truth."

"It is not a crime to write, but it is a thought crime to reflect on what you have written. The Party writes for us, and my job at the Ministry of Truth requires me to re-write what they have written. I do not write lies; I simply substitute one bit of nonsense for another. I correct the statements and the Ministry of Truth will see to it that no matter where the original statement appeared; newspaper, book, publication or film, these items will be destroyed and replaced with current copies. Everything fades away into this shadow-world where even the date of the current day will become uncertain."

My wife constantly insists that NPR is unbiased... She likes listening to "Wait, Wait, don't tell me!" on Sunday mornings, which is a comedy game show that lambastes Republicans much more than Democrats. Every other line from the show mocks McCain, especially his age. The only jokes they throw in about Obama regard his "divine" "God-like" aura; jokes about him healing the sick, etc. Bush and Palin's "stupidity" is a given on that show. Every guest caller expresses their fervent support for "our next President, Barack Obama!".

Unbiased, my ass.

The 300 at Thermopylae died. Thermopylae, which lies in a Greece Xerxes never got to conquer. You don't have to win every battle to win the war. You just have to win the right battle.

Despair and fear only have the power you give them. I'm not saying not to be afraid. It would be foolish not to be afraid. My son once asked what courage was, and I told him that courageous people are afraid, but they go and do what must be done anyway. So the media pounds like a drum for their favored candidate. They can pound all they want, you don't have to listen. We have put it all on the line for this moment---but so have they. Our best chance for victory is merely to show up and vote. So be afraid, but vote anyway.

Thousands of Christians flee Iraq city

At least 6,000 Christians have fled the northern Iraqi city of Mosul in the past week because of killings and death threats, Iraq's Ministry of Immigration and Displaced Persons said Thursday.

The number represents 1,424 families, at least 70 more families than were reported to be displaced on Wednesday.

The ministry said it had set up an operation room to follow up sending urgent aid to the displaced Christian families as a result of attacks by what it called "terrorist groups."

Iraqi officials have said the families were frightened by a series of killings and threats by Muslim extremists ordering them to convert to Islam or face death.

This "reporter" should be fired, but first made to explain himself. Every media outlet that ran with this lie should retract it, but of course they never will. And now Obama has spread the lie for all the world to see and it'll never be corrected.

This should be the top story on every network that a presidential candidate promulgated a deliberate lie for the world to hear.

But it'll never happen.

The media is dead to me.

Another example of creative journalism. Note how quickly it was picked up by major MSM outlets. Can it be that the MSM was alerted? Hopefully he will get the Dan Rather/Mary Mapes award at the next Pulitzer ceremonies.

It's time for non-liberals and non-moonbats to just start acting like the MSM doesn't even exist. It doesn't matter what you do or say, or don't do or say, because the MSM will just twist whatever you do or say, and make things up if you don't do or say anything. There is simply no way to win with the MSM. There's no real strategy you can use. All you can do is forge ahead doing what you believe is right, and hope that more conservative oriented media will eventually arise to balance out the liberal-biased organizations.

Yes, If the rallies were getting that out of control then Republicans would only have themselves to blame. The Lady in Red did a lot of damage and the guy with the racist monkey did a lot of damage. They have noone to blame but themselves.

"Out of control"? One person? Please.

As to the lady in read, McCain PROMPTLY, FORCEFULLY pushed back on that, right to her face. "You don't have to be afraid of a President Obama". Um, remember? So what else did you want him to do? Slap her?

I am not familiar with the "guy with the racist monkey" story.

Found it: Contractors' Licenses in Ohio

You must hold a state license do Electrical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, or Hydronics work in Ohio. General construction contractors may need to be licensed at the local level. Check with the city or county for licensing information and requirements.

To apply for a plumbing, electrical, HVAC, hydronics, or refrigeration license, you need at least five years of experience in the field. You also have to be a U.S. citizen and have never been convicted of a felony.

The Board will review your application and if you're eligible they'll send you information on the exam they require. You must have 5 years experience to qualify to take the exam. The exam has two parts -- one on business and law and the other on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, or hydronics. Everyone must take the business and law part.

Unless Joe is still an apprentice (doubtful at his age), he's licensed.

Well, on top of that (and off topic),
racist Pennsylvania just passed a law to further socialize the state.

This law tells the consumers they cannot consume, they cannot grow--in fact they must shrink. Expect more businesses to leave the state because they cannot get the power they need to run their businesses. No electric cars for you, Pennsylvania!

...Utilities will have to find ways to get people and businesses to use less electricity on the hottest summer days, when electricity is the most expensive. That could include enrolling the owners of homes and office buildings in a program to temporarily switch off hot water heaters or air conditioners....

Yes, turn of your AC on the hottest day--can we say heat deaths and/or heat related illnesses will go up?

The electricity conservation efforts will be expensive, and utilities can bill rate payers for that cost, up to 2 percent of their revenue from 2006. Utilities must be able to show that savings from the plans will pay their own cost — at least — within 15 years.

So not only can Pennsylvanians not use as much electricity, they must pay for the non-usage.

Congratulations Pennsylvanians for electing the stupidest government possible.

She's decided that Palin is scary because she "used her position to try to get her brother in law fired and when the guy wouldn't fire the brother in law, she got the boss fired." And that Palin's husband is scary because he is "holding court" in Palin's office while she's gone. This is a highly educated person who made it to SrVP in a huge corporation. Didn't McCain "almost" mention the Palin c* tee shirt last night, and then held back for some reason.

McCain was answering Obama on the supposed "kill him" remark at his rally, and he started to say something about tee shirts.

Why did he hold back?

I was sure he did address it, although without saying the word. I need a transcript.

Well, on top of that (and off topic),
racist Pennsylvania just passed a law to further socialize the state.

So not only can Pennsylvanians not use as much electricity, they must pay for the non-usage.

Congratulations Pennsylvanians for electing the stupidest government possible.

Not even close. We here in the Peoples' Republic of California have an invincible (gerrymandered) Democrat majority that thumb their noses at the electorate on a daily basis. Good point. As you know (by "pack the court"), it was tried once.

Interesting link:

FDR Fireside Chat on the Court

Of course, his plan was to add a justice for every sitting justice that stayed on the bench after age 70. I guess you could make the case that FDR was hoping to force justices at 70 or over to retire (keeping the court intact - number-wise), but you can also most certainly make the case that he wanted to pack it.

In either event, it failed. :-)

I believe that will happen no matter what he tries to implement as "change". What he touts as we can't afford 4 more years like the last 8, will be his undoing as an INEFFECTIVE president.
The issue here is "WE the people" cannot afford 4 more months much less, 4 more years of stalemates being pushed around the Congressional Chessboard!

No I stand by it. The racist monkey guy should have been stopped by his fellow Republicans. He was waving around the monkey and the only people who complained were the LLL protestors. That tacit complicity from his fellow McCain supporters cost votes because the MSM filmed him and ran the footage.
The Lady in Red should have never been allowed near a microphone. She was working for the McCain campaign and other people there should have recognized her as a nut and kept her from speaking.
This isn't fair. The MSM never covered the "Palin c=nt" t-shirts because it doesn't fit their agenda. We can't rely on the press to cover for bad Republican behavior. They're not going to do it. It isn't just one reporter involved with this vicious smear of McCain-Palin supporters.

This also isn't just about other reporters picking up the story and running with it.

Are we to believe that the media was there and there were no recorders? No video cameras?

The media that was there is withholding information in order to perpetuate another lie. Everyone in the media is looking for a "Gotcha" moment. They are all recording these events.

What do we call this? "Kill him"-gate?

Who in the media got a recording of the speech

- heard the accusation that a guy yelled "Kill him!"

- went back and listened to their recording of the speech

- didn't hear "Kill him!"

- and then said NOTHING.

Did anyone in the media record the speech?
You know they did.

Did the Secrete Service ask if any media at the speech if they recorded the speech?
You know they did.

Did the Secret Service hear any recordings of the speech?
You know they did.

If the Secrete Service did hear recordings of the speech, the Secret Service did not hear "Kill him!".

So which reporters have a recording of the speech and are not telling us that no one can be heard yelling "Kill him!"?

Also, David Singleton did not report the alleged incident to the police or the the Secret Service at the Palin rally.

I spoke to an agent with the Secret Service who said it would have been very helpful if Mr. Singleton had reported the alleged incident to the police and or Secret Service agents at the scene. This tells me that it very possible Mr. Singleton went into "wouldn't it be cool if..." mode and fabricated the incident back at the office. He also realized that filing a false report would be much easier from his office than from the rally where numerous people would be able to instantly, and with great credibility, be able to testify that nothing of the sort was said from any vantage point at the rally. Not bringing up the issue at rally also makes it easier to avoid the whole issue of filing a false police report.

Or does it?

This story is not over. This stinks to high heaven.

I got a hoot out of that beautiful copy on the Islamic Circle site:

Be Part of this Historic Dawah Campaign!

CTA Bus Front - Each bus will be covered on their side and on the top panel with beautiful message of Islam, insha Allah. A toll free number, 1.800.662.ISLAM (4752), will be posted, along with website and email, for interested viewers to call and obtain more information.
As the bus roams around the city of Chicago, making frequent stops, it will be proclaiming the message of Oneness of Allah, and inviting humanity to study the true faith of all the Prophets of Allah (peace be upon them).

Just heard "the One" mocking McCain for "fighting for a plumber" on the ABC Radio top-of-the-hour news during Rush. O couldn't get that line out without stuttering and stammering all over the place even in front of his DISCIPLES!

re: #301 sattv4u2

Many Community Organizer Leaders generally use a macro management style to obtain their crucial information and tenet structure and form the power of the group. It is backward in approach to conventional planning structures. You must as a citizen be convinced and needy for assistance and that they are acting in and on your own well being and behalf. It is a perception game. They train or pick pseudo minded people in their programs that match their core ideology and follow prescripted parameters and goals that are presented to them. Then... they go out into the community and poll to find out what, who and where they will gain the most support. Of course this consensus is found in most poverty areas lacking innercity support. The community project concocted then has great fluidity in that, like Obama, they can chameleon shape the way it finalizes as long as it is what the people want or think they want or how it will better their immediate "world". It's a win-win socialist concept. They then apply and receive grants to finance their cause. Use someones elses money to create wealth distribution for your constituency group. You come out of it looking like a hero, when actually it was a pyramid scheme of others working to get the idea accomplished. He built his career this way.
Do you think it will be any different if he becomes president?

If this does come to be, it should be noted by Jews, and Christians what the Muslims are actually saying/ actually believe.

ie: that Jesus, Moses, Noah, and Abraham were Muslims! (this is a strong aspect of Islam that bodies like CAIR, and the MSM like to ignore, or dispute. Islam isn't about respecting other religions...its about submitting other religions, because as far as Islam is concerned: there is no religion but Islam.)

Do we now refer to the cable network formerly known as "Home Box Office" as (his) Holiness Barack Obama?

I haven't watched HBO in any form for 20+ years. Mostly a bunch of overpriced rotten tripe.

From the Earth to the Moon was a very good HBO miniseries...Tom Hanks and Ron Howard did a bang-up job on it and I highly recommend it if you're into the early days of NASA.

Next, shortly before the election John McCain will sneeze while talking about his opponent and someone will report that he said the word "n-----".

Therewas an article this morning I read about some purported individual who supposedly "Found Islam" as he was waiting for his ride and saw the sign on the bus side. He knew in an instant that Allah was calling him home!
Prayer mat areas in the buses now?

329 realwest  Thu, Oct 16, 2008 11:22:04am

Sorry for the repost folks, but I originally posted this on the next thread over, but I think it applies as well here:

"Well I just couldn't take it anymore: I sent a letter to Sean Hannity and another letter (e-mails) to Bill O'Reilly linking to this story.
I think it's just way too important to not advise each of them (with all their faults) of this to see if they pick up on it.
There's a chance that O'Reilly will since he doesn't have to do any research at all for this and can easily insert it into the spaces between which he plugs his new book."

re: #328 notutopia

I believe the busses are public so they couldn't have prayer space in them. All that took place in Chicago (it seems) is that the bus system sold advertising space to an organization advertising Islam. This really isn't a problem to me.

I am only pointing out what the ads say, and how that plays into and reflects Islamic theology. Making lemonade out of lemons if you will...

All your prophets are belong to us!

Are you f*ing kidding me!?

I know the man's tone-deaf, but I would think even he wasn't dumb enough to mock his opponent for fighting for a hard-working citizen in a hands-on profession.

Years ago, at the beginning of the Reagan administration in fact, I read this novel The Spike by Arnaud de Borchgrave and Robert Moss and I've never forgotten it. Art imitates life indeed. It starts during the Vietnam War, and is about the editorial practice of "spiking" stories that for one reason or another (lack of space or out and out bias) aren't reported. Sins of omission and commission, without actually bald-faced lying by the press. This story had a sinister premise that this was a concerted effort to harm the US and the West. Get a copy (they're as cheap as 99 cents) and see if you don't see some creepy and dangerous parallels to the press in general today. Very well written and disturbing.

#302. Kilgor T. Seems to me that most of the disagreement you are having here is because of a basic failure to communicate properly - a breakdown of underlying assumptions possibly on both sides.

In your 302, the argument has some legs but utterly breaks down when you suggest , "Republicans should take responsibility and keep people from embarassing the campaign."

Well, nice trick if you can do it but it is so unrealistic it is no wonder lizards are calling you out. For example, just how would the Republicans take that responsibility? Preemptively, or only ex post facto? Either way, the argument leads inexorably to horrors we do not wish.

Better just to let the MSM hang themselves in the kind of manufactured dung we are curently talking about.

re: #195 Honorary Yooper

There's only one Dem I've voting for this year, for my county's state's attorney. Why? He's been after a certain mayor in the second largest municipality in the county, and I want that mayor behind bars. Otherwise, screw the Dems this year.

Oh yeah, our (in) famous hip hop mayor Kwame Thugpatrick. Innit great how the Cannadian Governor is doing a 5 day foodstamp eating spree to highlight how hard it is for families to survive off what they can buy with their daily allowance?
For starters, the food stamps are meant to supliment income, not serve as the only means of buying food and point two, shouldn't people on public assistance NOT be breeding 'em if they can't feed 'em?

re: #282 Occasional Reader

Forgot to report the silly liberal knee jerk of the day; a lib friend who said that the one thing he didn't like from the campaigns was Palin saying Obama "palled around with terrorists". "That's like saying, since McCain was held by the North Vietnamese, that he palled around with communists." I gently explained the difference between "voluntary" and "involuntary". This man, by the way, has a certified genius-level IQ. Not kidding. I can't explain it.

It's one thing to have an IQ and another to use it.

Stop being so PC mate.

You're not using the word n*****, so why do you have to use ------ to express your point.

Next thing someone will reclassify "The Dam Busters' movie R20 because Group Captain Guy Gibson's dog was called 'n*****' .... and he got accidently run over just before the raid on NAZI Germany's Ruhr Valley dams.
