Twelve Years Old and Racist

Politics | Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 9:58:15 am PDT

As Barack Obama bashes McCain and Palin for encouraging mob-like behavior, a 7th grader is called a “racist” for wearing a Sarah Palin T-shirt.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) — She’s only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.

That’s because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt.

Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers. But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.

“Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian,” she said. “I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them that’s not true. It’s my freedom of speech, it’s my opinion.”

(Hat tip: LGF readers.)

Well, it doesn't surprise me too much that 12 yr olds don't have a full understanding of what racism is. It seems many adults don't understand either.

If MSM didn't report the "Palin is a c*nt" T-shirts, they certainly won't report this (except for this one local news outlet).

Hey, has any MSM outlet retracted the fake Scranton "Kill Him" story yet?

and a little more Obam....ererrrrr Orwell to remind us of what's at stake:

"Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and everything connected with it… All their ferocity was turned outwards, against the enemies of the State, against foreigners, traitors, saboteurs, thought-criminals. It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children."

In this election, (so-called) "racist" is becoming a badge of honor.

It means you haven't had Obama Kool-Aid forced down your throat. The only racists in this election are going to be either 1) blacks who vote for Obama only because he's black or 2) white democrats who don't vote for Obama because he's black.

28 CapeCoddah  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 10:07:05am

My older daughter just started college courses at our local community college. She keeps calling me two or three times a day, aghast at the extreme left. She has been called racist for supporting McCain. She is white, engaged to a black Naval officer, and loves it when someone calls her racist because she relishes the look on her face when she tells them of her fiancee. She is driving me nuts with the constant calls, but, I don't tell her that, I want her to keep paying attention. I have to keep reminding her not to punch anyone.

According to my teen's reports, "racist" in middle school now a ubiquitous put-down and a bully word, like a poke in the ribs is among 7 y.o.'s. And you definitely are called racist for non-conforming (e.g. professing Republican affiliation), or remarking "these shoes were made in China". Which is excellent because the word is rapidly losing its meaning in pop culture.
And yes, my teen is being bullied by a jerk with this word daily, and no, my teen daughter is not Caucasian.

Yesterday, my 9 years old daughter told me that at her grade school (Monrovia Elementary School, Huntsville Alabama) , certain classmates (for PC reasons will remain un-described) are challenging my daughter and other students in her class if they support Obama.

If the answer is yes, they give each other hi-fives, if the answer in no, they call you a loser and taught you. Apparently this has been going on for several weeks. My daughter who is barely aware that there is an election and who her parents support, but because of it, some parents are encouraging there children to “get in their face” with other students.

"White" is not a culture, any more than "black" is a culture. There are many different cultures that make up the various nationalities loosely referred to as "white" (which actually encompass a wide variety of pigmentations). There are many different cultures that exist among the variously pigmented peoples of Africa and the Pacific.

re: #63 apachesam

You beat me to the link on this story.

Apachesam

Why is the school administration allowing this?

the lib tactics to back down and intimidate people by calling them racists are very similar to terrorist tactics. when they try to spread the ropma and we don't like it, we are islamophobes.
we can't let these people get away w/ shifting focus from their evil objectives by calling us names if we don't want ie. a socialist/commie for potus or sharia law controlling our lives.
we must keep the focus on the ACTIONS of libs and terrorists.

Part of the answer to your questions depends on how badly we lose the election. 60+ Donk Senators, a Donk House, and the Obamessiah as dictator and we are in for seriously bad times. Short of believing that there will be outright Death Camps for Conservatives, I think that the sky's the limit for how oppressive the will be. The "fairness" doctrine will be passed to shut up any dissenting opinions, and worse, anyone that disagrees with the Ruling Faction will be branded as racists or worse. I think that the assault on the Second Amendment will be even worse than Clinton's first couple of years, and he killed 80 men, women, and children in the name of gun control.

Yesterday, someone mentioned FDR's attempt to "pack" the Supreme Court by expanding the number of justices. I will be surprised if we don't see something like this from Obama before the first mid-term elections in 2010. We may see that even if the Donks don't get a filibuster-proof majority. The Republicans have traditionally been weak opposition when they are in the Minority. Hell, they let Ginsburg through without even a token fight.

If we are to make it through the next four years without there being wholesale changes to the fundamental structure of our Government, the Republicans are going to have to do better than they've been doing.

I am very pessimistic about the forseeable future.

OT slightly, but related to the election:

High court rejects GOP in Ohio voting dispute

And the reason?

"...they (the court) said they were granting Brunner's request because it appears that the law does not allow private entities, like the Ohio GOP, to file suit to enforce the provision of the law at issue."

So, let me see, it's more important to observe a technicality than to help ensure a fair election. I understand the law, but sometimes - as Dickens said - "the law is a a$$."

An unsigned opinion, and no mention of how many voted one way or the other. (But I'd guess it was probably unanimous.)

Sad.

re: #160 buzzsawmonkey

What is interesting is the refusal of black Americans to embrace their heritage. Black people whose ancestors came here as slaves are people with some of the longest ancestral residence in the United States, since importation of slaves ceased by Constitutional fiat by 1804. In other words, all black Americans have had American antecedents for over 200 years.

Yes, these people were in bondage for another 60 years, but in those 200 years the black Americans--who came here from many different regions, and tribes, of Africa and therefore had no common culture--evolved a distinctly indigenous culture of crafts, folk tales, music, etc. It may have had its roots in the slave experience, but it has been growing among a free people for almost a century and a half.

Yet this indigenous culture has been dissed and downplayed for the last 40 years in favor of assuming a spurious, faux-African culture concocted by Marxists; Kwanzaa, for instance, is a bogus holiday that exists nowhere in Africa, but pretends to be African, and turns its back on the indigenous American black experience. In the same way, the educational achievements of black Americans during the Jim Crow period are downplayed in favor of exalting the would-be revolutionaries. Figures such as George Washington Carver, a staple of textbooks 40 years ago, are seldom mentioned. The musical genius of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and hundreds of others are ignored and/or dismissed by ideologues seeking to build a fake Africa-centric culture to supplant and conceal the genuine achievements of indigenous Americans.

This, to my mind, is a theft from the American black community, by its own "leaders," of scandalous proportions.

Quoted in full, as I can only give you one upding!

Can We Please Define 'Racism'?

By Selwyn Duke

James Watson, the geneticist who helped unravel the structure of DNA, came under fire for saying that Africans are not as intelligent as Westerners. Aside from his remarks being deemed baseless and unscientific, he has quite predictably been labeled "racist." Why, some thought police even want him charged under Britain's Orwellian "racial hatred laws" (Watson is conducting a speaking tour in Britain presently). He has apologized, and averred, “I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said."

In light of this tendency to apply the "R-word," one that claims as victims late sportscaster Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder, manager of the Cincinnati Reds Dusty Baker, former baseball commissioner Al Campanis, late NFL player Reggie White and many others, I have a question.

What is "racism"?

Is it simply voicing beliefs about differences among races? Am I a racist if I say that blacks have darker skin and frizzier hair? No, I suppose not. What about if I point out that blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crime and that 70 percent of black children are born out-of-wedlock, versus 27 percent for whites? Well, in our culture that is borderline. But why? On what basis should we determine what is "racist"?

One might think that pointing out negative characteristic qualities or the weaknesses of a race makes a person a racist, but even this cannot be so. After all, we take pains to emphasize that sickle cell anemia is unique to blacks and that they are more likely to develop heart disease. Then there is the fact that Tay-Sachs Disease is found only among certain distinct groups, mainly Jews. In fact, were we to claim that these crosses are borne equally by all, we would be labeled "racist" for ignoring what ails minorities. It would be said that we really didn't care if they lived or died. This gets confusing, though; on the one hand we're castigated for pointing out differences, on the other we're complimented for doing so.

It might seem that we mustn't bring to light differences when doing so can lead to discrimination, but not so fast. When we emphasize the fact that only certain groups suffer from certain diseases, they receive attention and funding that others will not. Moreover, showcasing disparities in performance among the races has long been used to justify quotas and set-asides.

So, this is where one must start to think that there is more here -- or less -- than meets the eye. Is it that we cannot point out differences which, when brought to light, can lead to discrimination that doesn't benefit politically-favored groups? Ah, now we're getting somewhere. That certainly is part of the equation.

What, though, should be our standard? Well, it cannot be discovered by analyzing what has been said about Dr. Watson but, rather, by what is usually left unsaid. As was the case with the reception given to The Bell Curve, critics tend to take the position that the issue should not be raised, much less debated.

And that brings us to the crux of the matter. All intellectual inquiry, be it scientific or philosophical, should be a search for Truth. This search must be sincere and remain unfettered by agendas or dogmas, and we do otherwise at our own peril.

This is why the politically correct thought police are so destructive. When they criticize a man like Watson, not only do they rarely say his statements are untrue, but the Truth of the matter doesn't even seem to enter their minds. No, it doesn't because they are blinded by their agenda.

Yo. Don't be dissing Diddy.

177 Ozark Mountain Daredevil  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 10:37:55am

Oh, having an agenda or hypothesis doesn't make them unusual, but an intellectually honest seeker of knowledge will alter his hypothesis when the data contradicts it. To these folks, however, their agenda is deified and takes precedence over Truth; thus, when the Truth contradicts their agenda, instead of altering the latter, they simply suppress or rationalize away the Truth. Or, that is, anything they may fear is Truth.

It's ironic, too, because these leftists are the same people who usually condemn Christianity for stifling scientific enterprise (a false claim). How many times have we heard about Galileo (his story has been mischaracterized)? But who is stifling scientific inquiry and open debate now? Even more egregiously, these modern-day inquisitors would imprison those who violate their dogma. They have become guilty of what they decry.

The Truth is that the outrage here isn't Dr. Watson's remarks; they're either true or not. What's outrageous is that we're suffering under the yoke of those to whom Truth means nothing -- the practitioners of a dark faith. They don't care if a statement is correct, only whether it's politically correct. They hate the Truth when it contradicts their agenda, and they'll stop at nothing to still the tongues of those who would dare voice it. Racists? These miscreants are infinitely worse. They are Truthists.

And what is the Truth about racial differences? For one thing, is it logical and rational to claim that, except for appearance and a few diseases and conditions of the body, every group is the same in every way?

This is the left's implication, and it's absurd. It seems especially odd when you consider that most of these inquisitors are secularists who subscribe to the theory of evolution. Yet, despite their belief that different groups "evolved" in completely different parts of the world, operating in different environments and subject to different stresses, they would have us believe that all groups are identical in terms of the multitude of man's talents and in every single measure of mental capacity. Why, miracle of miracles, all these two-legged cosmic accidents, the product of a billions-of-years journey from the primordial soup to primacy among creatures, whose evolution was influenced by perhaps millions of factors, wound up being precisely the same. It's really the best argument for God I've ever heard, as such a statistical impossibility could only exist if it was ordained by the one with whom all things are possible.

Lastly, if we really care about a race's welfare, shouldn't we "diagnose" its condition -- whatever that condition may be -- properly so that its gifts may be best utilized, its inherent weaknesses best mitigated and its problems best remedied? If this makes sense with physical crosses such as sickle-cell anemia and heart disease, it makes sense for all crosses, be they spiritual, social or, dare I say, intellectual. Stating this isn't wrong or racist, and it shouldn't be repressed. And as Dr. Watson might say, that's something you don't have to be a Sherlock to understand.

A little OT, but I want to do a poll. Now that early voting is starting I have a dilemma. I live in a western state that could easily be called "little Cuba". Therefore, if I vote early I fear that the embedded ACORN types who run everything here will just have more time to 'misplace' my vote. Same with absentee. On the other hand, if I wait 'till election day, I may not have the chance to vote. Two years ago (I hate to give anyone ideas) some 'community activists' sent their hordes out to heavily Republican polling places on election day. They parked their cars in all the spaces, milled about, and even stood in line, therefore discouraging at least a few voters. When I voted in the primary, I breezed into the early voting place, and offered to show them some I.D. They said they don't check, and simply refused to go any further. They're going to try to steal this election, and right now I have no faith in the system. Anyway, WWLD? ( What Would Lizards Do?)

Vote early, and volunteer with your local GOP to be a poll watcher.

I'm sure that's also true. Nevertheless, I believe there are very large numbers of parents who have view points that run seriously counterpoint to the re-education camps many publicly funded schools have become. Did you read about the parents in Mass. who attempted to get the Kindergarten class their little boy attended to inform them before they handed out work-books expounding upon gay marriage as a norm. I think there is such a thing as homophobia; I'm actually not sure if these parents were homophobic, but they certainly did not share the same viewpoint as the state of Mass. on the subject. Tough luck for them and tougher luck for their children attending a Mass. public school. BTW, the school officials had the father arrested - led away from a meeting w/school officials in handcuffs - for his civil insistence on notification. I think that's very scary.

Actually I think it "appears" more racist, as in lumping two disparate groups into a "non-white" category.

It also distorts the results. I don't think Hispanics and Blacks are in lock-step on many, if any, issues so why lump them together?

I agree that it probably distorst the results, and from a skeptical point of view, that may be the intention. If the groups were separated and it became 85-10-5 and 65-25-10 that might show even more racism. Ironically there is only one other 'race' listed in the poll - White. There is no 'other' grouping in the results.

My faux pas. Further down in the detail there is. According to the poll 3% of blacks back McCain.

Black 81% 3% 16%
Hispanic 59% 29% 12%

Poor little girl is already partially brainwashed by the Public School System. She's afraid to say "WHITE" when she refers to herself. "WHITE" and "BLACK" are bad terms and we must apply the appropriate labels when we speak about ourselves or we are Racist.

My son's 2 & 3rd grade friends started hoot'n & Holler'n at him when he said "black guy" in their presence a few weeks ago. They told him it was Wrong to say "black guy" they even almost started to go tell their mommies on him. I home-school and refuse to use Politically Correct labels in our home. I say White, Black, Mexican, Korean, etc. It was OK in their minds to make him feel like a weenie just because he didn't say African American. What the Obama worshipers are doing may pay off for them in the short run, but it will prove disastrous for the democrats in the long run.

Post after post on sites like Hillary Clinton Forum, PUMAPac, HillBuzz - all the PUMA sites, including Democrats for McCain - deploring ACORN's tactics and declaring "I'll never vote for another democrat, EVER!" (unless it's for Hillary) by life-long democrats may very well indicate a deep and final rift in the democrat party.

If only 35-40 percent of the 18 million Hillary supporters leave the democrat party because of Obama's shenanigans, future democrats across the board will have a much more difficult time of getting elected.

Plus, the thuggish and vile accusations of "RACIST!" will not deter most voters when they're in that voting booth, all alone, with no one to see how they voted.

Ohio's Ms Brunner may have succeeded in getting her way by perpetuating voter fraud, but the tens of thousands of Ohio voters who are turned off because of being accused of being "Bitter" and "clinging" - many of the democrats - will hopefully negate the fraudulent numbers.

And they will vote, whereas the 200,000 questionable registrants are not guaranteed to do so.

Today, news out of New Mexico, the state GOP looked at information for 92 newly-registered voters in one district, and found 28 had "missing or inaccurate Social Security numbers or birth dates. In some cases, more than one voter was registered using the same Social Security number. In others, people who the Republicans said had no Social Security number on public record were registered." All of these are of individuals who have already cast ballots in the June New Mexico state legislative Democratic primary.

For all that the Donks like to pretend that they're oh so beyond good and evil, they are actually some of the most ridged dogmatists around. Any disagreement with their orthodoxy, no matter how small or benign, is SIN. It must be vigorously attacked, refuted, and driven out of the body politic like some possessing demon being excorcized by a "holy" Priest.

They make Martin Luthor look like a hedonist by comparison.

Barack Obama - Narcissist?

I. Upbringing and Childhood

Obama's early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations. Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia: a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995.

The maladaptive coping mechanism called "splitting", in a narcissist regards the people arouind him as either all good or all bad, is a very common trait in narcissists and Obama exhibits this in his habit of throwing formerly loyal followers under the bus.

re: #311 CommonCents

Abolition of private property can be summed up by "imminent domain". Wasn't the same judge who ruled the Ohio election case the same one that pushed the domain case?

Justice John Paul Stevens, writing for the majority, cited cases in which the court has interpreted "public use" to include not only such traditional projects as bridges or highways but also slum clearance and land redistribution. He concluded that a "public purpose" such as creating jobs in a depressed city can also satisfy the Fifth Amendment.

The court should not "second-guess" local governments, Stevens added, noting that "[p]romoting economic development is a traditional and long accepted function of government."

Stevens's opinion provoked a strongly worded dissent from Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who wrote that the ruling favors the most powerful and influential in society and leaves small property owners little recourse. Now, she wrote, the "specter of condemnation hangs over all property. Nothing is to prevent the State from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall, or any farm with a factory."

If this has already been posted, sorry, but John defends Joe, my favorite part highlighted:

"You may have noticed-- there was a lot of talk about Senator Obama's tax increases and Joe the Plumber. Last weekend, Senator Obama showed up in Joe's driveway to ask for his vote, and Joe asked Senator Obama a tough question. I'm glad he did; I think Senator Obama could use a few more tough questions. The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe. People are digging through his personal life and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks. The question Joe asked about our economy is important, because Senator Obama's plan would raise taxes on small businesses that employ 16 million Americans. Senator Obama's plan will kill those jobs at just the time when we need to be creating more jobs. My plan will create jobs, and that's what America needs."

McCain needs to keep Joe in the limelight and keep defending him.

They both have friends that bombed the pentagon.

357 Kenneth  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 11:26:16am

Obama displays the following behaviors, which are among the hallmarks of pathological narcissism:

Subtly misrepresents facts and expediently and opportunistically shifts positions, views, opinions, and "ideals" (e.g., about campaign finance, re-districting). These flip-flops do not cause him overt distress and are ego-syntonic (he feels justified in acting this way). Alternatively, reuses to commit to a standpoint and, in the process, evidences a lack of empathy.

Ignores data that conflict with his fantasy world, or with his inflated and grandiose self-image. This has to do with magical thinking. Obama already sees himself as president because he is firmly convinced that his dreams, thoughts, and wishes affect reality. Additionally, he denies the gap between his fantasies and his modest or limited real-life achievements (for instance, in 12 years of academic career, he hasn't published a single scholarly paper or book).

Feels that he is above the law, incl. and especially his own laws.

Talks about himself in the 3rd person singluar or uses the regal "we" and craves to be the exclsuive center of attention, even adulation

Have a messianic-cosmic vision of himself and his life and his "mission".

Sets ever more complex rules in a convoluted world of grandiose fantasies with its own language (jargon)

Displays false modesty and unctuous "folksiness" but unable to sustain these behaviors (the persona, or mask) for long. It slips and the true Obama is revealed: haughty, aloof, distant, and disdainful of simple folk and their lives.

Sublimates aggression and holds grudges.

Behaves as an eternal adolescent (e.g., his choice of language, youthful image he projects, demands indulgence and feels entitled to special treatment, even though his objective accomplishments do not justify it).

Now go watch Obama's performance at the charity dinner last night. You can see all these characteristics on display.

no joke, makes a lot of pieces fall into place.

The thought is that one of the main driving forces behind narcissism is abandonment by the mother at an early age.
Could this be the "Mom/Dad are your friends" mentality which would leave children without support and anyone whom they can count on? I am not phasing this well, but kids need parents who love them not "friends" who happen to be older. It leaves them adrift in a complicated and sometimes dangerous world.

since it seems we are OT again and splooging about Obama again:

Does anyone else get a creepy feeling when they see those blue & red Obama "hope", "progress", or "change" posters all over the place?

I am aware that this comparison is way too overused, but aren't they a bit 1984?

This isn't necessarily a dig on Obama or his candidacy, but instead a comment on the "propaganda" feeling to the one-word, repetitive, plastered everywhere aspect of this poster. It is almost 100% exactly what we have been warned about through movies, and literature regarding brain-washing, in a futuristic totalitarian environment. In almost every movie I have ever seen about such an Government/World/Country their are one word (or very few word) posters plastered everywhere advocating the "leader". I just heard on Rush a McCain audio from a speech today where he nailed Obama for attacking Joe the Plumber. Any links? It sounded like McCain has taken the gloves off and put on a set of brass knuckles.

McCain should keep mentioning that Senator Government is smearing a private citizen who merely asked Obama a question after Obama entered his hood.

Link here. Good stuff.

That's exactly it. Obama's father dumped them when he was 2. His writings about this period are full of anger & resentment. When his mother remarried he was taken off to Indonesia and immersed in a Muslim society. When they split up, he was dumped back on his white grandparents. The formative years of Obama's life were a series of traumas of abandonment and disslocation. Obama also wrote about his discomfort over his mother's attraction to black men. That reveals an unresolved oedipal conflict.

Now consider the series older men, his surrogate fathers, which Obama has been drawn to:

Frank Marshall: communist, black radical & admitted sex pervert
Rev. Wright: angry, racist preacher
Bill Ayers: terrorist

There is absolutely nothing racist about that shirt, or any of Sarah Palin's comments on the campaign trail for that matter. So much of the left has been completely unhinged for a while and I think we're getting a look at how much worse it can be when they feel like they're getting the upper hand politically. Apparently power corrupts even those who were already pretty corrupt to begin with.

And it really makes me angry when they go after children. That's just despicable. A 12 year old taking part in the political process instead of sitting in front of video games all day (or whatever kids do these days) is admirable in my opinion. The left has gone absolutely insane and the MSM is aiding and abetting.

With a majority in Congress and filibuster proof, to boot, it won't matter how much we scream, there won't be a damn thing we can do about it.

Historically, such obstacles have also been addressed outside of the halls of congress. "We" can do much "about it" both legally and in more creative policy making directions. There are levels of survival, along with tactical avenues yet unexplored, avenues which many of those currently caught in a potential policy making wet dream have yet to fully envision. It will undoubtedly be rough to see businesses board up and an all out assault on free market infrastructure, but take heart. People will vote with their pocketbooks again after seeing a term of true free unrestricked Dem reign and what fruits it yields. And let's wait for the official result on this election first and foremost.

Yes, it's called "Projection", another maladaptive coping mechanism. The liberal feels racist sentiments himself, but feels guilty about it and cannot properly integrate those feelings into his own psyche, so he projects them onto his antagonists.

Modern education has done a marvelous job of conditioning liberal guilt. Obama has been a master at activating the latent racist guilt in liberals and using that to project upon conservatives.

Oh God, a Civil War between the lefties and everyone else? We'd DESTROY them, as they lack balls, military figures and don't believe in weapons. It would make the 6-Day War look like an eternity.

Unfortunately, the Leftist claim to hate weapons and violence is just rhetoric. They don't mind weapons and violence as long as they are the ones holding the weapons and committing the violence. Guns are only bad when they are in the wrong hands (i.e., those of private citizens).

The very well-armed urban gangs in this country would likely fight on the side of the Leftists, since they probably figure they would have a great deal more power in a corrupt socialist country (they could control the black market, for example). Quite a few gang members have joined the military to learn such things as urban warfare tactics.

Bragging and false autobiography

The narcissist brags incessantly. His speech is peppered with "I", "my", "myself", and "mine". He describes himself as intelligent, or rich, or modest, or intuitive, or creative - but always excessively, implausibly, and extraordinarily so.

The narcissist's biography sounds unusually rich and complex. His achievements - incommensurate with his age, education, or renown. Yet, his actual condition is evidently and demonstrably incompatible with his claims. Very often, the narcissist lies or his fantasies are easily discernible. He always name-drops and appropriates other people's experiences and accomplishments.

How Reason Works

What if Obama had the strongest record of bipartisanship in the Senate, with major bills to his credit like the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign reform, the 2003 McCain-Lieberman climate stewardship and the 2007 McCain-Kennedy immigration reform acts.
What if McCain had the most extreme partisan voting record in the Senate?

What if Obama offered a broad, sensible energy policy that embraced both emerging and current resources, including building the greenest power plants possible with nukes?
What if McCain declared that the nuclear waste technology we've invested hundreds of billions in over the last three decades is unacceptable, and refused to build nukes until we invent something better than Yucca Mountain?

What if Obama offered sensible tax policies that have historically led to healthy business growth and financial freedom for more Americans?
What if McCain promised to cut taxes for 95% of us while proposing almost a trillion dollars in new spending?

What if Obama had called for reform and oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2006 that could have prevented the current financial collapse, only to have his efforts squashed by the opposition party?
What if McCain was the second highest recipient of political donations from Fannie and Freddie in his short Senate career, and had the former head of Freddie heading up his VP-vetting team, and the WaPo published the fact that the disgraced former head of Fannie was a financial advisor to his campaign?

What if Obama had been the leading supporter of the surge strategy that has won the war in Iraq?
What if McCain's primary claim to fame was his leading the charge to lose the war by withdrawing all our forces in Iraq where Al Qaeda declared their new caliphate?

What if Michelle Obama devoted her time and wealth to charitable organizations over the last couple of decades, and she adopted a Bangladeshi girl with a cleft palate on a visit to one of Mother Teresa's orphanages?
What if Cindy McCain got a $200,000 raise in her job as a Community Relations Director in a hospital when her husband became a Senator, and once in the Senate her husband put in a $1M earmark for her employer U of Chi Hospital, and she declared that when her husband won the nomination for Presidency was the first time she was really proud of her country?

What if Joe Biden had a proven record of opposing his own party and winning, and confronting Big Oil and winning, and sharing the revenues he levied on Big Oil with the citizens of his state?
What if Sarah Palin imagined we and the French "kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon" and said President Roosevelt "went on TV in 1929" (before TV existed) to talk to Americans about the Depression (before FDR became President in 1933)?

Well, hell, I'd vote for Obama. There's nothing racist about it.

I have to admit that I was starting to have doubts about McCain and was leaning towards Obama. But when McCain grabbed that microphone from that anti-Obama woman and defended Obama while his own audience booed him, I began to understand why McCain is such a remarkable and very non-Washington kind of guy.

And his appearance on Letterman, and remaining graceful under Letterman's constant fire, sealed the deal for me. I like McCain. I can trust him at his word. Oh, and at that roast, what I found even less funny (it was decidedly disgusting) was when Obama made the following statement about his colleagues:

“There was a point in my life when I started palling around with a pretty ugly crowd, I’ve got to be honest. These guys were serious deadbeats; they were lowlifes; they were unrepentant no-good punks. That’s right: I’ve been a member of the United States Senate.”

I don't find that funny in the least. In fact, I suspect, it probably a true reflection of what Obama feels about his fellow Americans. Again, not funny.

Questions

- is there something his internal poling showing that we don't know?

re: #28 CapeCoddah

My older daughter just started college courses at our local community college. She keeps calling me two or three times a day, aghast at the extreme left. She has been called racist for supporting McCain. She is white, engaged to a black Naval officer, and loves it when someone calls her racist because she relishes the look on her face when she tells them of her fiancee. She is driving me nuts with the constant calls, but, I don't tell her that, I want her to keep paying attention. I have to keep reminding her not to punch anyone.

My daughter is beginning her second "post college" year up in the bay area and she is slowly deprogramming herself from the 4 year far left indoctrination she received in school up there (and she went to a Catholic college!)...
She is beginning to see things as they really are...not as they should be...

If enough (real) people go out and vote for McCain, then the LLLeft won't have enough voter fraud to overcome it! Voter fraud only works in cases where the vote is fairly close.

Unfortunately, this looks like another one of those elections where the vote may be very, very close. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

On the other hand, the massive effort the MSM seems to be putting into making it look like the vote will be really, really close could itself be a sign that it's not really all that close, and that McCain might actually win by a large margin.

ah... but did you watch their body language and facial expressions? McCain was relaxed and chuckling. You could see the twinkle in his eye and really felt he was enjoying it. The audience too was having a good belly laugh.

But Obama was stiff, his smile was forced and it kept falling back to a snear. He was struggling to show he was a good sport, but he found the experience tiresome. He would deliver his punch lines and then lift his chin a survey his audience. The audience laughed nervously.

The contrast between the two candidates was dramatic.

One thing about this election if nothing else:
It is a stark illustration in real racism, victim politics and insanity in general. A LOT of people are learning lessons about what real racism and fascism are and feeling like they've been suckers their whole lives.
Prediction:
Either biggest landslide ever for McCain.
Unless Acorn and others have sealed the deal already that is...

462 Hanoch  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 12:46:33pm

This is one of many examples of the fascistic tendency that seems to be growing on the left. Rather than debating ideas, the left resorts to lying, bullying and intimidating to get their candidates in power. When they are able, they do everything they can to strip people of their freedom, whether it be by confiscatory tax policies; using judges to legislate; excessive regulatory schemes that restrict individual liberty; promoting the "fairness doctrine" to kill the few media outlets for conservative opinion, etc., etc. Americans need to wake up before it is too late; otherwise, the US will be another Europe sooner than we realize. There is a good editorial in today's WSJ about where this election ultimately may be taking us.

From Wikipedia definition of racism "

1. The belief that each race has distinct and intrinsic attributes.
2. The belief that one race is superior to all others.
3. Prejudice or discrimination based upon race.

Not from Wikipedia:

4. A white person.

5. A Republican. (see above.)

If it's racist whenever a white grade-school girl likes Gov. Sarah Palin, is it sexist whenever a black grade-school boy prefers Sen. Obama? Is it racist if a white prefers Sen. Biden over Gov. Palin? For answers to these questions, see definitions 4 and 5 above.

Oh, and while we're at it: Are black people are innately superior with respect to their resistance to sunburn? Do Tibetans breath better at high altitude, rainforest dwellers sweat less than steppe dwellers, Greeks hold their wine better than Icelanders, and so on? Maybe the diversity of humanity is, like, real.

Eliminating Cards
Following on from my previous line of thought, does anyone mind if we use the acronym CARDS for the liberal mental disorder of screaming "RACIST" at every single thing?

CARDS stands for Compulsive Arbitrary Racial Defamation Syndrome.

Identifying this as a syndrome will help cure it.

The only reason liberals suffer from CARDS at the moment is they believe their disorder carries the power to stifle or sidetrack a debate. And they are right.

You could be making a perfectly logical point about Obama's healthcare policy and a liberal will suddenly call you a "racist" for no apparent reason. You then spend the next half hour arguing the fact that, not only are you not a racist, but the point you are making was nothing to do with race. The Liberal is happy because he has distracted you from your point. He also feels morally superior.

This strategy has been used so often that it is getting out of control. If nothing is done to keep it in check, liberals will be wondering the streets like drunk Tourettes victims, yelling "racist" at the lampposts.

Now, in any future debate, we can crush their strategy by yelling back "aha - you are suffering from CARDS, you loser". You then offer a brief explanation of CARDS and the power is drawn from their strategy. Yelling "racist" shifts from being a serious political/social accusation to being a tired old cliche - something they should be embarrassed about dropping into an argument. A really cheesy tactic and a sign that they are total losers for reverting to it.

If you don't believe this can help, then think carefully about how "Godwin's Law" stops anyone comparing an opponent to the Nazis.

They may even have a good point, but the moment they say "so and so is a Nazi", they've lost.

We have to make it so that the moment a Liberal yells "racist" he's lost the argument. Brining up their CARDS is a neat way to handle this.

Oh God, a Civil War between the lefties and everyone else? We'd DESTROY them, as they lack balls, military figures and don't believe in weapons. It would make the 6-Day War look like an eternity.

We'd destroy each other. And the war would go on and on. Nobody would use nukes, because the military would lock them down very tight. Cities would be besieged, as country folk cut the roads. Rail transportation would fail. Shipping would be more difficult to interdict, and the rurals would be at a disadvantage in terms of buying weapons or supplies from abroad. In the end, this might prove the undoing of the "right" in such a war.

The left would be undone too, because the destruction would be so extensive that it would be impossible to reconstitute a nanny state. It would, unfortunately, be possible to set up a police state. We could end up with an Orwellian nightmare that left and right would both hate.

Is there a name for the psychological disorder that causes Liberals to label anything they disagree with "racist"?

It's become a sort of compulsion now.

I think it would help liberals deal with this disorder if someone can come up with a label for it.

Perhaps Charles could organise a competition.

My suggestion would be CARDD (Compulsive Aggressive Racial Defamation Disorder)

Projection, perhaps. In my mind, anyway.

You hit the nail on the head.

Every time we see the real Obama we get a little better glimpse into who and what lies beneath that cool demeanor. Obama's inability to really laugh at himself last night, his inability to effectively joke - other than reading the jokes that others wrote for him to say - tells us volumes about who he really is. Last night Obama was only playing at being "one of the guys." He is incapable of being a real, honest human.

I was forced into a conversation yesterday by a liberal aquaintence. He began the conversation by bemoaning the fact that the two of us just can't seem to have a civil conversation about politics. I calmly explained to him that we see the world very differently - the best we can hope for is to explain how and why we each see things the way we do. He then proceeded to brag about all the books he reads by experts in their fields which corroborate the theories that he believes in. I told him that these experts may be highly educated but that does not necessarily give them any wisdom. He then called me an idiot.

Gee - I wonder why Democrats and Republicans can no longer have civil discussions.

UMMM yeah - what else would you call it?

My teen survived into freshman year at college. The insult last year was "gay"
It is a real mean world our kids learn to navigate, a fine line between having friends who are worthwhile and decent, and fearing to stand out too much in the crowd. Those of us who are the praying sort need to pray for our country's kids, not just our leaders.

I wish I had a way to contact this girl - I would tell her that the instant comeback is to call the loser who insults her so unfairly "sexist". There's no answer for that, then.

I, too, have been called a racist for daring to complain that Obama lied about not knowing what the heck his pastor was saying. The moonbat instantly glommed onto the wrong point - that I was disgusted with "a black man expressing his anger at white America" (which, while "true", was not what I said, because I hadn't wanted to go into all that again) - & ignored that I was making a point about Obama's honesty. And I made the choice to, rather than focus on her illiteracy (or cheap shifting), I would then just educate her about Wright. I pointed out the flat-out lies the man has told, & his supporting Hamas - and got no answer. I suppose I did okay.

Pfft. My 12yr old daughter gets called a racist at least once a week because she doesn't support the one. Mind you, this is in a town that traditionally votes 85+% GOP. She revels in the knowledge she is the one who has cast aside considerations of a man's skin color and looks only at his character. It helps that she understands why the lights come on when you flip a switch, where the food on her table was grown and raised, how roads and garbage delivery get paid for and why being a "gangsta wannabe" is beyond stupid. It also helps she's 5'9" 130# with about 0 oz of fat with the speed and reflexes that come from competing with her 6'3" older brother... The brother bit also taught her how to look for her opponents' weaknesses - her teachers have taken to complementing us for raising a young lady that is so adept at avoiding physical confict through the use of intellectual arguments. Some of them actually realize she is just beating up her opposition in the most effective manner available.

My daughter and her friend, elementary school, got called racists and crackers yesterday because they don't like a boy because he's mean to them. Funny thing is, is that they're friends with the mean boys sister and the kid calling them racists and crackers was white.
I told her to quote MLK next time they had an encounter with him. Judge by the content of their character not by the color of their skin. I pointed out to her that just because the kid that called them crackers is white it doesn't negate his racist remark.

I was recently accosted on the street by a black woman I've neither seen nor met before. She got in my face, very angrily (per Obama's instructions) and, after a diatribe against McCain and all Republicans, accused me in front of my work associates (we were going to lunch) that I must be a racist since I do not support Obama; I assume she had overheard a conversation my associates and I were having about the current state of politics, specifically the registration of non-existent voters. I backed away from this woman to get out of immediate striking distance and asked her in a reasonable and non-threatening tone if anyone accused her of being a sexist since she does not support Palin. A look of bewilderment appeared on her face briefly, followed by the most outrageous inferences (most involving language a sailor wouldn't use) about my values, my family, my religion, and my race, only the last one of which would she be able discern. My associates witnessing this tirade (one was female and one were black) were at first embarrassed for this woman, but before long they started laughing so hard they were crying.

This was the topic of a very interesting lunch; I had never previously known the political views of my colleagues, but by the end of the next day two of them came to realize that they could no longer support Obama.

Maybe this young lady, already a smart one, should just ask her accusers if anyone has ever accused them of being sexist. I seriously doubt it has ever happened, at least non within this context.

Girl at the Latin School of Chicago was accused of being a racist for supporting McCain. It's a private school in Chicago.

Won't be long before you are attacked for wearing a McCain button. Kind of like having a gold star in Germany pre 1940
