Does anyone else get a creepy feeling when they see those blue & red Obama "hope", "progress", or "change" posters all over the place?

I am aware that this comparison is way too overused, but aren't they a bit 1984?

This isn't necessarily a dig on Obama or his candidacy, but instead a comment on the "propaganda" feeling to the one-word, repetitive, plastered everywhere aspect of this poster. It is almost 100% exactly what we have been warned about through movies, and literature regarding brain-washing, in a futuristic totalitarian environment. In almost every movie I have ever seen about such an Government/World/Country their are one word (or very few word) posters plastered everywhere advocating the "leader". (the fact that they use the single words "Hope" and "Progress" makes it worse, as this is almost exactly what is used in the literature/media scenarios)

This theme can be seen in the last Harry Potter Movie, V For Vendetta, 1984, etc.

(just something to think about)

Joe The Plumber sings!

I just got a viral newsflash in my e-mails:
Your donations requested this season, its deductable
A hard hat, a plunger and pail
No push poll could take the wind out of my sails
Because my pipes are being flushed out this evening
With hard hat, a plunger and pail

Im puttin on my hard hat
Pushin on my plunger
Fillin up my pail

Im sloggin out my sewer
Puttin in the pipe wrench
Hangin with the snails

Im steppin out, my dear
To breathe an atmosphere that simply reeks with methane
And I trust that if you spread my wealth that I’ll roto-root your drain

For Ill be there
Puttin down my plunger
Chattin with Obama
Givin him some pain

(Apologies to Irving Berlin)

In my neighborhood, people take those red and blue posters with Obama's face and "Hope" and tape them over the windows in the top of their front doors. So at night the light shines through them like it's something holy and it looks really, really creepy.

re: #1 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

So who is going out to see W this weekend?

Here's the first and last paragraphs from Roger Ebert's review of W in the Chicago Sun-Times. I truly, honestly hate that POS Ebert.

Oliver Stone's "W.," a biography of President Bush, is fascinating. No other word for it. I became absorbed in its story of a poor little rich kid's alcoholic youth and torturous adulthood. This is the tragedy of a victim of the Peter Principle. Wounded by his father's disapproval and preference for his brother Jeb, the movie argues, George W. Bush rose and rose until he was finally powerful enough to stain his family's legacy. Unlike Stone's "JFK" and "Nixon," this film contains no revisionist history. (BULLSHIIT!)

One might feel sorry for George W. at the end of this film, were it not for his legacy of a fraudulent war and a collapsed economy. The film portrays him as incompetent to be president, and shaped by the puppet masters Cheney and Rove to their own ends. If there is a saving grace, it may be that Bush will never fully realize how badly he did. How can he blame himself? He was only following God's will.

54 Walter L. Newton  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 11:39:19am

Amazing.

I have seen two major polls today that show Mc/BO just a few points apart, yet on the front page of CNN's web site they have this blurb...

"John McCain and Sarah Palin are on a mad dash to blunt Barack Obama's surging momentum and hold the states that have traditionally voted for Republicans"

"Surging momentum?" This is why Joe Public will put Obama into the Whitehouse.

And of course, there is The People's Cube, which turns the Leftist's propaganda tools back on them. It's been called "the Stalinist Version of The Onion," but I'd say it's what The Onion's take would be on Stalinism, both historical and present-day.

Someone just walked out of our local Dem headquarters (it is only about 200 ft from my business) with a HUGE Obama sign (had to be 6 by 10) that said "change". I would love to follow them and see where they put it. Guaranteed by morning it would be removed or vandalized. Last election there was a Kerry Edwards sign that was at least 10 by 10 near a main intersection in my town and someone spray painted "commies" across the whole thing. It stayed up for a month. LOL

Mentally challenged man says his vote wasn't right

Jack Justice has been voting since he turned 18. Typically his family takes him to their neighborhood precinct. This time Primus Industries, his adult day rehab program, took him to vote. His family was shocked, but what shocked them more was that Jack claims that his aide commandeered his vote.

"They told me to vote for Obama, I said no I wanted to vote for McCain," said Jack Justice, a voter.

Jack Justice says the person helping him, selected Obama's name. His sister says the family is often asked to sign a permission slips for trips, but for this they were never notified.

Remember 1984 and Orwell--words have no meaning. The mojor news outlets are not to be trusted. Hell, the AP even ignored its own poll and talked about a Dem blowout. Joseph Goebbels is looking up from hell and smiling.

Well, as the resident ancient historian...it's actually pretty accurate. Many of the quotes are straight from ancient sources ("she charges a high rent for 9 months' lodging," "the only thing that ever tamed Alexander was Hephaestion's thighs," etc.). But it is so badly acted, directed, and written that I laughed through the battle scenes, any scene that involved Roxana, and I pretty much laughed nonstop from Hephaestion's death to the end.

I am not saying that Obama's philosophy is Hitlerian; merely that the cult of personality surrounding The Leader which he is fostering is similar to Hitler's in many respects. Hitler was just as noted for his ubiquitous looming portraits as Stalin or Mao--or Napoleon, for that matter.

As I said before, Obama reminds me more of Mussolini than the others. Something about the poses, the pictures of Obama swimming, etc.

Sony delayed/recalled the release of the videogame Little Big Planet worldwide because they received a complaint about one song by an African artist who is a devout Muslim that contained two verses for the Qur’an.

[Link: blog.us.playstation.com...]

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.

We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.

DC is fun if you stick to Northwest, but expensive. Arlington isn't very cheap but better than DC, and somewhat safer. If you stick near the Metro line you get the best of DC and the safety and relative cheapness of Arlington. (Depending on what you can afford, Ballston, Rosslyn, and points in between are all very nice.)

I live in Arlington, which is for the most part as expensive as DC. It's newer, so a lot of the buildings are nicer, but you'll most likely need a car, and DC is a LOT more fun.

However, if you'd like your vote to count, move to Arlington :)

Losing hundreds of high paying executive jobs and the "ownership" of the last big brewery that started in Milwaukee has been a blow here.

I see. It has had NO affect here. And some of our mamagement already moved when they merged with Molson. The Coors complex actually has palnts along a two mile stretch of Clear Creek, at the end of Clear Creek Canyon, with ends up smack in downtown Golden. And just beyond the plant, going east, Clear Creek widens and meanders across open flat plains.

What's nice is that Coors, from the time they started building here in the late 1800's, they tried to keep the visable foot print of the plants to acceptable.

I don't drink any more, but as far as I'm concerned, that beer is shit.

Arlington will probably have lower taxes. You may not *need* a car depending on where you live in Arlington, but it would probably make life there a lot easier if you had one. It's less important to have one in DC.

I live in DC itself, and like it very much, in spite of the well-known problems of this city. Also, we just got our Second Amendment rights back... some of them, anyway!

I am single, 40, and prefer urban. For as much as I think I want to save some money living in Arlington, needing a car would just mean that I'm paying expenses on a car rather than taxes.

Trite-sounding but true advice; take the time to check out the potential neighborhoods on both sides of the river. You just won't know what feels right to you until you see it. But if you like urban living, DC might be a better option for you. And much as we like to bitch about the Metro, it really does make city life a lot easier here. If your office is near a Metro stop, and you live in DC reasonably close to one, your commute will be relatively hassle-free.

There are lots of interesting neighborhoods in DC, depending on your preferences and price range. I particularly like the whole strip running north between Connecticut and Wisconsin Avenues, between Kalorama at the south end and, say, Friendship Heights at the north. If you're working in Arlington, "West End" or Foggy Bottom might be a little more convenient for you. One word of advice; if you're interested in a neighborhood, check it out by night, too. There are some areas that look perfecly okay in daytime, but ain't so great after dark. Personally, I put a huge premium on feeling I can walk around my neighborhood safely. Also, for my part I don't recommend the relatively trendy Adams Morgan neighborhood; it seems to be overpriced, on the one hand, and to have a resurgent crime problem, on the other.

Back in '04 I said it was pretty easy, we've got till the '06 midterms to do it.

Simply dump the entire voter registration roll. Require everyone to re-register with proof and citizenship and residency. The cost and inconvenience is a small price to pay for the benefit of having a clean election.

I've been rather disgusted by the lack of scrutiny at my local precinct. It's mostly staffed by older retirees, and while it's true that I have voted in person for years, I've never been asked for proof of I.D.. I brought this up to the poll worker in the '04 election, and was told, "oh, we know who you are", even when I didn't recall seeing these particular people before. Personally, I think they should be utilizing Reagan's mantra "trust, but verify"

Interesting thing about the movie W. The early commercials for it were really open with how scathing the movie was towards W, to the point that they just made me angry as heck. It was like watching blasphemy.

The more recent commercials seem to be a mite bit less scathing, and instead seem to be saying how great a movie this is. It's like they've throttled back on the hatred for W Bush in the commercials for fear it would turn people off from seeing the movie.

Hmmmm.... maybe they've started seeing some sort of backlash against their vitriol?

314 ibmkeyboard  Fri, Oct 17, 2008 12:28:15pm
The Supreme Court sided Friday with Ohio's top elections official in a dispute with the state Republican Party over voter registrations. The justices overruled a federal appeals court that had ordered Ohio's top elections official to do more to help counties verify voter eligibility. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, faced a deadline of Friday to set up a system to provide local officials with names of newly registered voters whose driver's license numbers or Social Security numbers on voter registration forms don't match records in other government databases. Ohio Republicans contended the information for counties would help prevent fraud. Brunner said the GOP is trying to disenfranchise voters. In a brief unsigned opinion, the justices said they were not commenting on whether Ohio is complying with a provision of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 that lays out requirements for verifying voter eligibility. About 200,000 of 666,000 voters who have registered in Ohio since Jan. 1 - have records that don't match.

Yep, I work in DC. I would recommend Arlington and a car over DC. Arlington is close enough to get to DC anytime. Plus living in Arlington will cut your nasty commute down. Look for a bus route or subway that will get you to work easy from a prospective apartments.

McCain-Palin signs are getting stolen out of yards in San Diego County, in large numbers. Rumor circulating that somebody is paying punks $2.00 per sign.

Anybody else seeing this?

Here in Madison WI, a radio station put up a McCain sign in a volunteers yard to see how long it would last. An intern filmed the sign for less than 3 hours before it was vandalized and then stolen. Unfortunately according the the radio host the recording was to poorly lit to post on line. They are now accepting videos and pictures from the general public.

[Link: michellemalkin.com...]

If true, that could be another Joe the Plumber moment . . . if the guy would come forward.

Although I wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

Michelle,

About 11 or 12 years ago, I was the foreman for a small blacktop company in Delaware. ( I still live in Delaware today) We paved good ole’ Joe the Senator’s driveway. At the time Joe explained he couldn’t afford it, so we worked out a payment plan. He was supposed to pay us 6k down then 1k a month for the next six months.

He paid the down payment (cost of materials) but Joe never made a single payment. After about 6 or 7 months, we finally got a lawyer and threatened to take him to court. He finally got his brother to pay us the money he owed. I don’t believe we ever got the interest we asked for.

Because of size of the company (about 5 of us) I never got my vacation pay that summer!

True story!

I ended my blacktop career in 99, but I’ll never forget this.

Hi all,

I wanted to share this in case there was any doubt about the true purpose behind the Obama, (hope and change) campaign. I don't like where this is going.

[Link: www.crossroad.to...]

From the Link:

"Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday." --Letter from L. DAVID ALINSKY, son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky

"An organizer working in and for an open society is in an ideological dilemma to begin with, he does not have a fixed truth -- truth to him is relative and changing; everything to him is relative and changing.... To the extent that he is free from the shackles of dogma, he can respond to the realities of the widely different situations or society presents."

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”

While we're on an Open Thread, I have a question for any of you (including Charles) who are Amazon affiliates.

I have used their "Recommended Products" banner with various search terms Jewish+American+History, Jews+U.S.+History, pro-Israel+History, and can never avoid anti-Semitic titles (books by Finkelstein, Israel Shamir, Zundel, Findley, and other disgusting pricks) from popping up in the banner.

Amazon has told me there is no way to block any title they sell from showing up in the "Recommended Products" banner, so in the meantime I have removed all these banners from my website and only link to specific titles.

Has anyone else has this experience and what did you do about it?

It's been out in the open all along; his sweetheart deal from Rezko regarding the side lot on his house, the sweetheart mortgage deal, and, if I recall, a sweetheart deal on the price.

Well, yeah, WE all know that, but for most people, a sweetheart deal on a $1.3 million house doesn't sink in.

Being stiffed on work you've done well is another story. Many people - especially small business owners - can relate to that.

So far this year, we've not been able to collect on $60K of receivables. 20% of these have the courtesy to work with us, even if it's $10 a month. We know times are tough and are willing to work with people - as long as they keep in touch with us. The other 80% of this are bums who don't even acknowledge the bill and arrange some kind of payment with our collections person.

Thank goodness we saved during the good times and can weather this economic storm.

But many small business people have a VERY difficult time paying mortgages, car payments, utilities, etc, when someone makes promises to them and don't come through.

For doing this to a small business person, I would consider Joe Biden a bum of the first order.

To be fair, I already thought of him that way anyway. If he did what this guy says he did, this just confirms it.

Someone just e-mailed this to me yesterday (although I know the song is not a traditional Dead song):

The Dead Reunite For Obama
By: Howie Edelson
The surviving members of the Grateful Dead reunited on Sunday night (October 13th) at Pennsylvania State University at a benefit for Sen. Barack Obama. The Allman Brothers Band opened for the Dead -- who officially dropped the "Grateful" from their name following the 1995 death of leader Jerry Garcia. Sunday's gig marked the first time Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Phil Lesh have performed as the Dead in four years.
Drummer Hart, who had previously performed with bandmates Weir and Lesh at an Obama event back in February, says that Obama's views on climate change especially hit home for him, telling The Associated Press, "I believe him enough to be able to get up in front of my constituency, these people out there and tell them 'I believe.'That's really important. The Grateful Dead does not take this lightly. We've never really done something quite like this."
Although Obama was not at the event, a taped video message from him was played over the Bryce Jordan Center's scoreboard.
The Dead's setlist was: "Truckin'," "U.S. Blues," "Help On The Way," "Slipknot!," "Franklin's Tower," "Playing In The Band," "Dark Star," "St. Stephen," "Unbroken Chain," "The Other One," "Throwin'Stones," "Playing In The Band (Reprise)," "Touch Of Grey," and "Not Fade Away."
Joining the band was Allman Brothers band and Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Haynes and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti.
Hart says making music with others is always a satisfying and emotional experience:"Sharing it with others, it sort of ups the ante for me, personally. I'm a groupist. I like to group. I like to have conversation with other musicians, and I like for us to have conversation with an audience. It's sort of a full-circle, round-trip kind of a thing. I get more energy and so forth from it. It's more powerful when you share it with others, for me."

She's a 17 month-old White Mini that thinks she's a Giant - yesterday she was determined to take down a motor scooter traveling up the steep hill adjacent to my parent's home. She also has the attitude that she should be the focus of attention at all times...

The TF2 trivia challenge is hilarious. It involves Ron Paul at about 4:30. Death By Horse is pretty damn funny too.

We might bail out the Iranian economy? No, no way, no how.

If the economy collapses in Iran, voters might actually realize Ahmadinejad is to blame and vote him out.

Let the strikes go on - no rescue!
Nothing is as frightening for tyrants than the people actually rising, after decades of suppression.
Think Eastern Germany 1989 and what they shouted at their dear leaders and the stasi: 'We are the people!'

Voted against Mondale (what a tool)
Voted HARD against Dukakis
Voted against Clinton (thought he had potential though)
Voted VERY VERY VERY HARD against Clinton(s)

You know If Adam hadn't eaten that golden delious apple we would all still be prancing around with no clothes on in Paradise...
Oh No.. I just thought of Michael Moore with no clothes! AAAAHHHHGGGG! Somebody hand me the mind bleach....

Aesthetically, I actually prefer women being dressed up (at least at the start). Most people look better dressed than undressed. A custom-fit real corset looks great on most women. Excuse me for a moment.

Federal Suit Against McCain Campaign for "Inciting Violence"

A Kansas City lawyer and supporter of Barack Obama for president has filed suit in federal court, alleging that the Republican ticket has incited violence against the Democratic nominee.

In her lawsuit against Sen. John McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin and campaign manager Rick Davis, Mary Kay Green said she had been injured by their campaign tactics and suffered “terror of the heart, anxiety and grave fear” for Obama’s life.

Green said the GOP campaign had used hate speech to work its supporters into a frenzy, leading to death threats against Obama. The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday, has been assigned to a federal court mediation program for resolution.

Let's make being a conservative a criminal offence.
