Palin-Hatred Reaching Rabid Level

Politics | Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 8:50:49 am PDT

The media keep yammering on about John McCain and Sarah Palin’s imagined “subtle racism,” but they’re silent about the ugly, in-your-face demonization and hatred you can easily find everywhere Obama supporters hang out. This morning’s example: A Truly Frightening Prospect.

Biden Admits Obama is Unprepared for International Crisis - Time for That Primetime Event (UPDATE)

Drudge now reports that Oprah Winfrey is offering to produce the half-hour Barack Obama infomercial.

Also, Ed Morrisey has proof that Obama did endorse Ayer’s book A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court. See the photo for yourself.

As for the "FrighteningProspect" poster: Brilliant!

More name-recognition and more visual recognition for Sarah Palin. Keep at it, foolish Left -- all you've succeeded in doing is making her the most famous woman in America. Which in the long run means more votes, since fame=popularity, so mater how much you intend to demonize.

On that shared office thing--could one of the lizards in Chicago actually go by that office building and take a look around. Some office buildings are actually rather small, and it is conceivable that there might be ready proof that they were closer than anyone wants to let on.

By the way, is there a way to change one's nic, other than by going out the door and coming back in under a new name the next time registration opens up?

38 Ojoe  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 8:58:11am

Why the insane hatred? IMHO because Palin has real faith & it panics some people who have none. It is a spiritual thing you see here. and here is a quote from the Interview Palin had with Jay Newton-Small, Time Magazine, August 29, 2008:

Where do you see yourself going? Staying on in Alaska. Washington?

You know, I don't know. I knew early on that the smartest thing for me to do was to work hard, do the best that I can, make wise decisions based on good information in front of me. And then put my life, get myself on a path that could be dedicated to God and ask Him what I should next. That will be the position I will be in as long as I'm on earth — that is, seeking the right path that God would have laid out for me.

What's your religion?

Christian.

Any particular...?

No. Bible-believing Christian.

What church do you attend?

A non-denominational Bible church. I was baptized Catholic as a newborn and then my family started going to non-denominational churches throughout our life.

Bolds are mine, and there you have it.

These people can't gin up the hatred of McCain, so they're going after the next best thing - Palin. And Palin is showing that she's got a tougher skin than anything Obama's supporters can dish out. Obama would cry racism the moment someone complains about an Obama stated position. Palin merely shrugs it off with a smile and a witty comment.

That causes the left's hatred to burn hotter.

It's that abortion stance that has some of my coworkers acting as though she's the second coming of the devil or some other such blatherings. I would counter with the fact that Obama's so far to the left on the issue of abortion that he supports infanticide, but that wouldn't even begin to register with some of these people.

There, I fixed it. Now for a picture of Obama with blue goo coming out of his mouth....

Everything thrown at Palin is magnified when applied to Obama.

Here's a heartening article:

News outlets sweat over exit poll accuracy

In theory, exit polls should match election results. But for all the care that goes into conducting accurate exit polls, errant results aren’t completely uncommon. Respected polling analyst Mark Blumenthal found that during the Democratic primaries this year, preliminary exit polls overestimated Obama's strength in 18 of 20 states, by an average error of 7 percentage points, based on leaked early results.
The reason? Obama’s supporters were younger, better educated and often more enthusiastic than Hillary Clinton's, meaning they were more likely to participate in exit polls.

Ah ha! Went back to the website, clicked on "About the Project".

It is apparently run by three charming souls, "Jenny", "Dean" and "Sarah". Their thumbnail bios are simply, heh, heh----precious. "Jenny" likes dogs better than cats. (Hey, I'm impressed!) "Dean" is a self-described "jerk" (no argument there!) "Sarah's" bio has a picture of Sarah Palin herself accompanying it. (The others have blocked out their faces in the same way bad guys on "Cops" have theirs covered). This, along with the name, makes me wonder if "Sarah" isn't suffering from some sort of twisted hero-worship of the very woman she wants to defame.

If you go to Dean's bio, and click on the highlighted "Shepard Farey" link, you'll get to a website that sells the giant Obama OBEY poster.

I soooooo agree with you......the more they bring her name up...and continue to talk about her.....means more people are going to want to find out what all the fuss is about.....and will spend more time listening to her and finding out more about her.

Remember when Palin was picked to appeal to the base- again because of such values.

Well, Catholics, many at least, don't seem to give a damn about the abortion issue in this election.

A Catholic Shift to Obama?

Not this year. Catholics, who are quintessential swing voters and gave narrow but crucial support to President Bush in 2004, are drifting toward Barack Obama. And this time, some church leaders are suggesting that single-issue voting is by no means a Catholic commandment.

In an interview yesterday, Gabino Zavala, an auxiliary bishop in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, said his fellow bishops have long insisted that "we're not a one-issue church," a view reflected in their 2007 document "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship."

Well, McCain wouldn't go on those shows directly because he doesn't have the street cred. Palin's choice as VP was to get the fundamentalists, red meat, conservative core energized, and this is all part of the plan. It lets McCain be McCain. Besides, she gets to circumvent the big media outlets and speak directly to tens of millions of people outside the traditional venues.

I'm not a fan of Dobson or Robertson, but from a political standpoint, she's doing what she has to in order to win the election for McCain by energizing the base to get the vote out.

Contrast that with Biden, who's being holed up in a secret bunker because every utterance he makes is a gaffe and a half.

Delaware County, Montgomery County, Chester County & Bucks County in Pennsylvania.

I'm a bit P.O.ed this morning and frankly not at the moonbats. If I offend anyone, well...good. I apologize if this is OT but I need to post this before the Useful Idiots I work with get in. How many of you watch The View? How many of you or your sisters or your wives watch Oprah? Two and a Half Men? The Daily Show? Probably more than a few. Well, congrats on being part of the problem. I think the time for walking softly and carrying a big stick is over. If you patronize any of the advertisers on those shows, for shame. You don't like Tina Fey then why don't you cancel your Amex card? Don't like the fact that video game used an Obama billboard? Don't buy it or anything else produced by that company. We have pocketbooks, it's time to start using them more wisely. And "getting in their faces" works both ways. It's not enough to say in your kitchen or anonymously post on the internet "Yeah, it sucks my local paper endorsed Obama". You need get on the phone or internet and contact all their advertisers and say you won't patronize them anymore. And parents? I'm looking at you. Stop being hypocritical and lazy. Times are tough and if you say "oh, no, I can't not buy Product A or not watch Show B 'cuz my kid's will hate me" then just enroll them at Bard and register as a Democrat. We don't need the likes of you. So, next time you see an Obama sign in a coffee shop, a bakery or grocery store call up the management and tell them they lost a customer. My local Vons had an Obama supporter inside their store. Guess where I don't shop anymore? And yeah, it's a bitch to drive farther away but I'd rather support a store that doesn't harass me. Don't like the fact one magazine endorsed Obama? Cancel ALL your subscriptions. Don't just wait for the NY Times to call up and ask you to subscribe. Call them and tell them you never will. Let's get noisy and stop being scared. Freedom of speech ain't free and I'm tired of our side putting up with it.

Y'know, I made another post yesterday, and haven't had a spare moment to publicize it:

Volunteering at an Obama Phone Bank

3 had no answer
4 were message machines
7 answered but didn’t want to talk or immediately hung up
2 were disconnected numbers
1 was an Obama voter (who would vote on election day but who didn’t want to volunteer)
1 was a McCain voter

So, according to the Zombie Poll, you're saying it is a tie.

heh.

I just watched McCain talking at a rally and he said "Now is no time for someone to be tested in a crisis with the economy the way it is and with two wars going on", and he said the same thing yesterday at another rally. I think the last thing independents and soft dems want to hear is ANYTHING having to do with war, especially the war in Iraq that they feel we shouldn't have been in in the first place, so just "saying" war is a hot button topic. I think McCain should change the conversation to how RISKY Obama IS because we don't know how HE will respond. Responding to an international crisis is much different than and economic crisis and if his response would be anything like his reticent response to the economic crisis, we're all in big trouble. Again, McCain needs to POUND the fact that Obama hasn't been tested and he's just too RISKY! I'd be yelling it from the roof tops.

Well, the GOP can't win without their support, so it has to be done. Reagan never had a problem with appealing to that constituency, so it's not like you have to sell your soul to them to be part of a broad coalition.

I don't think its a fine line at all. Its pretty blatant.

Catholicism ain't a democracy and never has been. The Church is essentially a private organization, and it can give its communion to whomever it deems worthy.

If that doesn't seem right, perhaps you should "pray for more faith". (That's the answer a nun I know got when she asked her Bishop why women couldn't hold more senior positions in the church).

But if this is causing you angst, don't worry about it. Fortunately, you can still vote for whomever you choose, then ask for absolution afterwards.

Secondly, when his own mother was dying in 1995, Obama did not go out to see here because he was too busy campaigning for the Illinois Senate. Now, I think Ann was a piss-poor excuse for a mother, and I don't blame Obama for not felling close to her. Why the insane hatred? IMHO because Palin has real faith & it panics some people who have none. It is a spiritual thing you see here. and here is a quote from the Interview Palin had with Jay Newton-Small, Time Magazine, August 29, 2008:

Bolds are mine, and there you have it.

BDS was originally born out of W's openness about his faith, I believe.

The irony of this poster is that Judeo/Christian beliefs are to the Left what a crucifix is to a vampire:

John 3:17-20
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed.

If you're trying to energize the base in late October, you've probably already shit the bed on your campaign. Sending Palin to these guys is like sending Obama or Biden to chat with Air America and Keith Olbermann. At this point, you need to assume that they're with you, because if they're not, you're going to lose anyway, and if you don't spend that time on persuadable undecideds, you can write your concession speech now.

The biggest part of any election is getting the base out to vote. Realistically that's as important as convincing the so-called "undecideds" to go your way. So if you look at this as an investment in that light, it makes sense.

Also, as a not-incidental side issue, empirically Palin can't seem get a fair shake in the traditional media. Why give her enemies more chances to rake her over the coals?

I saw the marriage ammendment thing yesterday and I'm done trying to like Palin.

What of it? Even if such a thing could pass both the Senate and the House with flying colors, then get the signature of the President, it still needs the endorsement of 3/4 of the state legislatures.

If you're still worried about it, just remember the Equal Rights Amendment. It's still around, but it's in a Persistent Vegetative State.

I find it interesting that, for one thing, Obama isn't flying to Hawaii immediately. He should have gone last week if he really cared about Grandma. Secondly, when his own mother was dying in 1995, Obama did not go out to see here because he was too busy campaigning for the Illinois Senate. Now, I think Ann was a piss-poor excuse for a mother, and I don't blame Obama for not felling close to her. But I think it says something negative about his character that he couldn't even make the gesture, if only for his sister's and grandmother's sakes, when the woman was on her deathbed.

Something happening this weekend that he may not want to be around?

I am the last thing you would call a social conservative, but what they have done to Sarah Palin pisses me off. For people who supposedly are for freedom of choice for women, they are sure down on Sarah Palin's choices with regard to her son Trig, and her daughter's out-of-wedlock pregnancy. As for what she is supposed to be able to do for womens' choices? Her and what Starfleet? She's going to be the Vice President, and the President of a Democrat-run Senate. From whence will come the jackbooted thugs armed with speculums and pregnancy tests?

This is all being done to her because the liberals can't find a lot to lie about with McCain, they know McCain isn't Bush, and they don't know what they are doing without a George Bush to run against. So they decided to make Sarah Palin into their George Bush. NEWS FLASH---she's not George Bush either, boys and girls.

I don't give a sh*t (so much) about gays being able to marry.

I do care about how they go about advancing their political agenda -through litigation, hollywood productions to mainstream the lifestyle, etc.

But I don't agree with comparing them to a race or religion.

Never in my life have I seen such relentless character assassination as these attacks on Palin. Since the basis for most of these attacks, lack of experience, low intellect, are obviously unfounded, I can only conclude the far left is afraid of this woman and therefor must destroy her. They see the respect and admiration Palin receives from conservatives and it scares the hell out of them.

This encourages me for the future of the conservative movement. Win or lose, Palin will survive, and the RNC is paying attention and hopefully looking for more Palins.

OCR (it's software as opposed to hardware) goes over any image you submit and picks out text characters. So, let's say you have a digital camera and you snap a picture of a newspaper column. You get a picture of text...but the individual characters in the text are not able to be edited. (Most digital cameras will save the photo as a jpeg, etc.). Again, if you have OCR software, you run the jpeg picture through it, and the OCR will recognize letters..turning the photo's text into editable (manipulable), individual characters, text...Just as in this text box I'm writing in right now -- it's all individual text characters that I'm entering -- it's not a jpeg (jpeg-- one uneditable picture)...hmmm...Have I explained this well enough? probably not...

Delaware County is blue collar and Philadelphia transplants. Haverford (and probably Swarthmore) and Havertown are seriously Obama. No doubt Chester City, as well. The rest...I don't know.

I can see Chester County going McCain.

Montgomery...I was in Villanova last weekend. A TON of McCain signs. Maybe 2 Obama. Bryn Mawr is of course lost. The rest of Lower Merion might be a toss up. I don't get to Upper Montco much so I don't know.

If any county will go full out Obama, it will be Bucks. Too many New Yorkers there.

Will this year come to the "who would you rather have a drink with at the bar" determination? I can't attribute this properly, cause I can't find the real author of the article, but the basic premise was over the past thirty or so years, you could go back and see who you'd rather have a drink with at the bar and that was who actually won the election. For this year, who would you rather have a drink with at the local bar?

McCain? An old war vet POW? He's got to have some interesting tales. But then again, this is a guy used to reaching across the aisle, playing the middle ground. Can you really trust him? But, to a lot of people, it's not even him that's attractive, it's the hottie he brought to the bar with him. She is fine. A fine looking woman who'll kick back at the bar with you pound the beers down and root for her favorite hockey team on the tube. Now there's a winner.

Obama? Let's be honest. A lot of people consider him to be some sort of messianic figure, so some of that has to be taken into account. Who wouldn't want to share the counter with Jesus Christ Superstar? Maybe the One will perform a miracle, you've got to be honest--which one will the One perform? But, then again, the guy's a marxist. He'll sell me on the you can get through life the easy way--won't have to buy your own beer, 'cause the gov't will pick up the tab. He's the celebrity at the bar. Then his buddy is one apt to drone on and on ad nauseum. But then again, running mates in prior years haven't been as much of a factor in the race for the White House.

So the choice is there, who would you rather sit at the local bar and have a couple of brewskis with? McCain or Obama.

Me, I pick Sarah Palin.

I've lived in rural socially (more or less) conservative areas, to industrial moderate Democrat town, to liberal urban areas. Each has a large population that doesn't really follow current events ("they're all a bunch of crooks"). But will go out and vote on a single issue.

-2nd Amendment rights. I know people from Democratic blue collar families that vote Republican over this

-Abortion; Goes both ways, and I guarantee you that the pro-choice crowd is getting all over their people out to vote. If Palin can reach the middle aged or older socially conservative type by going on these shows, that could make a difference.

I know public school teachers who get huge pressure from the brotherhood to vote Democratic, but will vote Republican over social issues.

Catholic = Pro-Life

Fr. Thomas D. Williams explains:

People — including apparently some “ardent” Catholics — seem to forget how central the pro-life issue is to Catholic morality and why that is so. We are not quibbling here about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. It is no exaggeration to say that the inviolability and sacredness of innocent human life is to Catholic morality what the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is to Catholic dogma. Both are not only non-negotiable; they are foundational. I would challenge Catholic Democrats to come up with any moral question on which the Church has expressed itself with greater clarity than on the intrinsic evil of abortion.

To seed a woman who in the heartland of America(a country who "is losing its way"). The bible says "the lord shall come as a man whom blind followers will not see".

Also, as a not-incidental side issue, empirically Palin can't seem get a fair shake in the traditional media. Why give her enemies more chances to rake her over the coals?

Gotta disagree there. I think she should be out and in their faces, giving them every chance to rake her over the coals. If she can't survive it, she doesn't deserve the job.

The designer says he's going to eliminate the "heavy" turbine powerplant and replace it with batteries, electric motors, and an engine powering a generator. I'd love to see how that's going to be lighter, since the turbines I work on in 15-place helicopters weigh less than 700 lbs and make over 1800 shaft HP. I think he's blowing smoke, since the only possible weight savings could come from a smaller fuel load (turbines are not thermally efficient powerplants, but they are very light).

Do you think that it is a coincidence that Biden made his comments a couple of days after the classified intellegence breifing from the White House?

Do you think he knows that if The One is elected there is a chance he'll need to at least bomb Iran, or possibly use nukes?

I think he knows something - the voracity of the security threats - and needs to prepare their voters for the fact that the anti-war diplomacy addict may have to kill people with the mean US military, and....AND use Haliburton to support it!

Oh, I TOTALLY agree! It sounded like he was warning folks about OBAMA more than anything. I believe he still feels the same way about Obama's unpreparedness and we got a glimpse into his remaining skeptism about his running mate. That's what we've been getting....little "nuggets of truth" out of both candidates.

re: #278 lawhawk

Part of my reasoning on this is that the media is trying to browbeat the base into thinking that McCain's giving up in places like CO. The McCain campaign has to counter that with actions and deed, but you're right that McCain hasn't exactly run a top notch campaign.

When you're in a political brawl, you use all the tools at your disposal. You don't withhold those that might be particularly effective - aka Rev. Wright.

I agree, but selecting Palin was the nod to those folks. In the 2001 VA GOV race, Republican AG Mark Earley was running against Democratic businessman Mark Warner. About a week or so out from the election, Earley started running ads on rural Christian radio stations. His campaign gave some story about how they had made their case to the undecideds, and they now had to hope the undecideds heard them and the campaign would go back to its base to bring them out. Warner, for his part, was barnstorming through the reddest parts of the state. I knew at that point that Mark Warner would be our governor. When you're making 11th hour appeals to your base while the other side is trying to expand the playing field to your territory, you are in deep, deep trouble.

The race isn't over, but I wonder if anyone bothered to tell Senator McCain.

True that she has to get out in the traditional media outlets, but which is going to give her greater exposure? Going on 700 club can hit many more households and more frequently (by reruns) than a similar segment on CNN or MSNBC. If it's audience you're after, it makes sense to go that.

Still, she should be pushing to get on the networks' shows to give independents and moderates a reason to vote for her as well and dispel some of the smears tossed in her direction.

From LA Times:

Sen. John McCain is remembered as a passionate contrarian who won the hearts of his classmates at the Naval Academy. Sen. Barack Obama, who attended Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School, is remembered as a daunting scholar and calming influence. Sen. Joe Biden, who had a brush with plagiarism at Syracuse University College of Law, is remembered fondly by professors who found him charming.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, however, is barely remembered at all.

Funny. I thought when Hillary was in the race I read innumerable articles that Obama is barely remembered at Occidental and nthey were unable to find a single person who remembered him at Columbia. As for the daunting scholar crap, Obama has refused to release any records and we have not seen a single paper he wrote. By all indications, he was a mediocre student that took full advantage of the then new affirmative action policy at The Harvard Law Review, but was unable to get an article past the editorial board review committee.

re: #228 Charles

How else would we be able to reign in a very active Leftist Judiciary? Liberals in the appellate circuits want to force gay marriage. The Legislative branch is co-equal to the Judiciary. Right now they aren't co-equal. The Judiciary has grown in power to a point that it is the trump card when dealing with social issues. This needs to be redressed, and that is why there is a movement to define marriage as union between male and female.

I agree that amending the Constitution is a bad idea, as is Federalizing the issue in a place where the Federal Governement is not appropriate. OTOH, what is a decision based on the penumbras and emanations but a form of Amending the Constitution without the appropriate oversight of the Population through the Amendment process. I think that simply allowing unelected judge to dictate to the States what is acceptable to a given community is bad policy. There is a political process that needs to be carried out on issues that are as controversal as Gay Marriage. We are supposed to be a Representative Republic.

She's running for vice president, and it's a bad idea to give the impression she's shying away from hard questioning.

hard questioning is one thing but that's not what the msm would engage in.
the msm would take anything she said and distort it to make her look bad.
that would be their goal in interviewing her. they would do anything to stop her from getting her point of view out. they are crocodiles.

re: #318 Ben Hur

Do you think that it is a coincidence that Biden made his comments a couple of days after the classified intellegence breifing from the White House?

Do you think he knows that if The One is elected there is a chance he'll need to at least bomb Iran, or possibly use nukes?

I think he knows something - the voracity of the security threats - and needs to prepare their voters for the fact that the anti-war diplomacy addict may have to kill people with the mean US military, and....AND use Haliburton to support it!

An addendum to my previous reply...

In agreement with what you said, I think Biden was also trying to prepare the democrats for Obama/Biden having to make decisions relating to and CONTRARY to the liberal european fantasy that everyone in the world "will get along" if That One is elected. The fairy tale romance will soon come to an end.

Secondly, I can't help but wonder if the Bush admin wanted to bring Biden IN to that knowledge of a "testing" of Obama because...
A. They knew he would talk about it which would increase doubt about Obama.
B. They knew it would ignite again the lingering doubts that Biden himself has about his own candidate that would ...MAKE HIM TALK ABOUT IT!

Either way, it was a beautiful plan!

These:

*Comments are open and unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Little Green Footballs.
*Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
*Posts that contain phone numbers, addresses, or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
*Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.
*REMEMBER: posting comments at LGF is a privilege, not a right. Abuse that privilege, and your account will be blocked.

Re: Biden's "first 6 months of our term we will face some big challenges..." speach.

Is it me, or is it as if 9/11 did not happen?

Does everyone not realized that the world has changed?

We've moved past the Clinton "the Cold War is over" 1920s attitude.

9/11 was a pretty big challenge.

The War of Terror is a pretty big challenge.

The world as it is now is a challenge.

With countries that don't have the self-hating guilt ridden 5th column sections of their populations (or have them, and they've been suppressed) all trying to expand their spheres of influence according to their national interests now that the Cold War is over and the pie is up for grabs (ie, doing what EVERYONE country on Earth was doing before the Cold War).

It's cold and calculated.

I don't think Joe knows how geopolitics work.

I don't care that he knows them by their first names.

That's why the world loves The One.

Who would you rather have in charge of Britain, let's say.

Someone who will sacrifices Britian's national interests so other states trying to advance their national interests will like Britian more, or someone who will put Britain's national interests first.

As a non-Brit, who sees the competition on the world stage, I would want someone who would be weak and sacrifice his interests for mine.

I assume that remark was tongue-in-cheek, but there is a reason why historically the vote was only given to those who owned property (or more specifically the head of household who did), and its because they were the only ones to pay taxes.

Its the converse of "no taxation without representation". . .you have to pay taxes to earn representation.

And this makes perfect sense.

Otherwise, you *might* end up with a situation where 40% of the electorate who don't pay any income taxes vote for someone who promises to hand them "free" money confiscated from the top 5% of earners.

"Sorry, but you'll never convince me that the correct way to negotiate social issues is to amend the US Constitution."
Well I don't know. I mean, Women got the right to vote (which was indeed a social issue as well as a political issue) by Constitutional Amendment and States got smacked down on denying all or any part of the Bill of Rights at the State level by Constitutional Amendment.
Of course we also had Prohibition by constitutional amendment, but also had the good sense to repeal it the same way.
I don't think a constitutional amendment is the BEST way to deal with 99% of social issues, but there are times when it is the most effective way (and NO I'm not in favor of a Constitutional Amendment on Gay Marriage).

433 Scion9  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 10:00:21am

re: #374 nikis-knight

Much of law, from tax codes to constitional amendments and provisions, atempt to direct social behavior.
But I won't try to argue this particular here much.

The issue with the 'give up on the gay rights' mantra, is the same with the 'give up on immigration reform'. We are told to sit down and shut up by a minority of people. A majority of people even in the most liberal of states don't want open borders, and they don't want gay marriage. That these are issues that can't be discussed or opposed is entirely manufactured by coastal elites.

We've already seen the end route of where gay marriage goes in Massachussets, with the State government stepping into Churches and Church run charities and dictating that they conduct gay weddings and support gay couples, which is contrary to their theology.

If the secular beliefs that gay marriage is a right, and Churches must respect that right, it is going to have to be legislated federally, because it is a violation of the 1st Amendment's Establishment Clause.

We are currently violating it right now, by disallowing religiously sanctioned polygamous, arranged and underaged marriages because those customs are not consistent with American cultural norms and would not be tolerated by way too many Americans.

Taking a stand at the federal level one way or the other is what needs to be done. As it stands now, a marriage is binding across all 50 States, regardless of where it takes place. You can only get married in a few places as a homosexual, but if you take into court (which will eventually happen if it hasn't been already) you can be a married gay couple anywhere after the fact. A few judges in a single state, whose majority population doesn't support this social institution dictates the law for the entire country.

I know one man who is rabidly anti-gay. Out of curiosity, I asked him his thoughts on gay marriage last week.

I was startled when he said he supported it. I asked, "You're usually ranting and raving about 'the gay agenda'. I thought you disliked gays."

He replied, "I do. Being gay is a completely unnatural thing. It's not an 'alternative lifestyle'. It's just a perversion. If they're not going to change, then I hope they have a miserable life."

So I then asked, "If all that is true, why do you support gay marriage?"

His answer: "Have you got a better approach to ensuring a life of misery for someone than letting them get married?"

What upsets me is how Obambi started the whole issue of Joe the plumber, yet when Joe didn't agree with him, he threw him under the bus, too.

Last night after seeing Joe on H&C, they followed up with the O commercial about he is going to be fighting for the "little people", the people worrying about high gas prices, putting food on the table and sending their kids to college. He says that's who he will be thinking about every day he is Pres.

And then they played the clip where O was making fun of John McCain for standing up for Joe the plumber. I just cannot see how people believe anything he says, he is totally two-faced.
(Rooting for the Phillies and the Rays).

The treatment of Sarah Palin has been the worst I have ever seen. I just wonder if some of these idiot men would like it if their wife was being talked about this way.

People are just so thrilled that we may break the "racial" barrier with O, but still cannot (or will not) accept women who are smart, articulate, caring and strong. I mean, who in the hell is Jon Stewart to say f**k you to her? She is still the sitting Governor of one of our United States. No respect and no class.
If these people are the elite, I will just continue to hang out with my working class friends and family, the people who make this country great!

How about dressing Obama up in a KKK outfit and placing him in front of a burning cross with blood on his hands?

How about Obama with a bag of candy in one hand and a NAMBLA sign in the other?

Charles,

The reason that the Marriage Amendment has so much apparent support has little to actually do with the amendment itself, but the view that the courts have taken to legislating the result for the nation without Legislatures crafting law on point. I think that's the salient point, and people are tired of the courts drafting legislation as unelected bodies. An amendment would be the ultimate in democratic process, requiring multiple votes across the nation to approve the change. That's also why so few have been adopted in the course of our history.

There have been literally thousands of Amendments to the US constitution proposed over the years (hundreds in the past few years in fact). Some have managed to get approved by Congress, but have expired because the states haven't concurred by the necessary numbers (or simply expired because they failed at some stage of the procesS).

Fortunately for us the State in which he resides is so blue it won't make any difference anyway.

You don't forfeit your right to free speech by not voting, but IMO, you do forfeit your right for your subsequent opinons to be taken seriously.

I know what Killgore said. What I said was in direct response to what he said, nothing more. I wasn't trying to convince him not to vote for The Big Fascist Tool; I know there's no worry about that.

As for a cast vote giving you the right to be taken seriously: the evidence says otherwise. There's no shortage of people who will deride you and laugh at you for your opinions, whether you cast a vote or not. Besides, you have no right to be heard at all. The only right you have is to say your piece.

How are they going to channel all of this hate if O gets in office?
They had better hope McCain wins, or they'll have no life at all.

They'll channel their hate in an open all out effort to suppress free speech, steal or break anything they think others don't deserve and other fun activities on the communist to do list when the socialists take over... if you've read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich or anything significant about the fallout of the Russian revolution as it transformed into Stalins Russia you should have an idea of what's coming... the biggest difference will be that any US forces employed elsewhere will be for show or as *peacekeepers* under UN mandate... internally though it would be a mess... I'll be happy to deal with the extreme leftists whining, ranting and rioting for a short while rather than an O' win... (which is where I think it's heading anyhow)

Hmmm. This election's getting to me - I've never posted this frequently. Anyway, for what it's worth:

Killgore Trout -

Please vote. It's such a precious right, one that really means something in this country, if nowhere else in the world. I'm from the group of folks who've only gotten their chance to vote because their foremothers had the courage to keep protesting after getting thrown in jail and having the crap kicked out of them for insisting that women do, in fact, have the right to vote.

Personal story: All my voting life, I've voted Democrat. This is the first year I'm voting Republican and I'm not sorry for it in the least. I've read a lot about these candidates, heard a lot from both sides of the aisle and have realized that, when push comes to shove, I don't want a wimp running my country. Obama's a wimp. Both McCain and Palin have shown guts and courage throughout their lives; don't toss them into the gutter because they don't agree with you 100% on everything. I don't agree with them on everything but, dammit, they're going to lead this country and not take shit from anyone trying to tell them that America is bad, evil or in any way lesser than any other country on this planet. That's got to be worth your vote, if nothing else.

But, enough of the McCain/Palin pitch. Vote, even if it's for Obama/Biden. Don't become apathetic in this most important right, or you may lose it.

mac :]

marriage is a contract sanction by religion and society

what is the problem of have a 'gay' marriage sanctioned by law?

.....we cannot force religions to change to accommodate sexual preference

how about forcing Christianity to drop the divine attribute of Jesus?

If marriage is a contract, then it falls under contract law. The problem is when a contract that is valid in one state, is considered invalid in another. Must Alabama legally recognize a same-sex marriage contract established in Massachusetts?

Historically, marriage is one area where the "full faith and credit" clause of the Constitution has not been enforced.

The more over the top and insane in their vitriolic hatred the more of the centrists and *undecideds* they shove away from them. Folks with this mindset think that they are on a holy mission (whether or not they believe in God etc) and that their shit doesn't stink. They act like monkeys, flinging shit thinking it will drive away the enemy/intimidate others... in reality it only isolates them more from the larger society on which they prey for survival and the lonelier one is in the jungle the harder the going gets to survive/succeed... In a sense it's social darwinism at work, they've dropped any facade of civility and are about to learn that the human jungle ultimately will react to uncivil asswipes with rejection when it has the choice.

That may be so (that if she can't handle it, she doesn't deserve it), but that doesn't mean that running that gauntlet will help her. As the old saying goes, its better to remain silent and be thought an idiot, than to speak and remove all doubt.

I don't think Palin is an idiot, but I certainly DO think that if you interview someone (anyone) for three hours, they're eventually going to say something stupid or something that can be taken out of context to look stupid. A few quick edits, and it looks like EVERYTHING they are saying is stupid.

Charles Gibson misquoted Palin to her face and that turned into some kind of "gaffe" specifically designed to paint her as a religious lunatic. Why isn't that going to happen again? Can you trust these so called "journalists" NOT to try and take these sorts of cheap shots now at the 11th hour? At this point, given their recent history, no, I don't trust them to do that.

Palin could take certain precautions (like taping her own interviews to help skirt this sort of intellectual dishonesty), but once the "spin" is out there, it can be hard to contradict.

As a related matter, how much has Obama's refusal to answer hard questions (or more appropriately, the media's refusal to ask them) hurt him?

Sorry, but you'll never convince me that the correct way to negotiate social issues is to amend the US Constitution.

I'm against gay marriage, but I have to agree with that statement. Just because the majority of people agree or disagree with something doesn't make it necessary to mess with the greatest living document written.

my post as I read it, was almost incoerent

gays can and should (if they want) enter into a binding legal contract and call it anything they want to, and it can be enforced just as a RELIGIOUS marriage ceremony is enforced

but

it would be a contract

the 'gay' agenda in this case is the corruption of religious tradition as we know it

So whats to stop Gays from forming their own "church" and having their marriages as a "religious ceremony" As a matter of fact, I've always been surprised they havn't as of yet

re: #482 FrogMarch

why do blue states vote against gay marriage?

Because blue states are not a monoculture. There are still many Democrats who are not dyed in the wool reds but are instead just your typical labor union cog-in-the-machine types. These guys have as much disdain for homosexuals as anyone else does. Then you have "minority" Democrats who were seduced by the siren call of "whitey is out to get you." Blacks and the amalgamation of ethnicities known as "hispanic" don't think much of gays either.

The Democrats who really beat the drum for gays are your "destroy the culture" variety who do so simply for its destructive effect upon the society. These guys are pro-gay for the simple reason that homosexuality has traditionally been seen as wrong. If social conservatives are for something, these guys are against it.

Sadly the entire issue is being used as a political football between these two camps. Homosexuality is a non-issue in reality. What matters are the choices that someone makes when it comes to sex, whether they be gay or straight or something in-between. Promiscuity and other dangerous sexual practices are bad. Monogamy is good. Social cons would do well to promote that message instead of bending over backwards to pretend that being gay is somehow a choice and that if gays just try hard enough they can somehow become straight.

Right. In reality, the problem is that the government shouldn't be in the business of recognizing "marriage" - that's a religious institution. So, to make it fair, don't make gay marriage illegal, just take marriage out of the government's role and have it be a contract. I agree with this. But...

I've got to agree with Heinlein. The right to vote is to precious to give away just due to where someone was born. It needs to be earned.

Hell, if we just restricted voting to people who own at least 10 acres we would knock out most if the parasites.

Hell, if we just restricted voting to people who own at least 10 acres we would knock out most if the parasites.

I used to buy into the idea of earning the right to vote, ala Heinlein etc. Now I don't think so. Any way of restricting someones right to vote can be abused. The only thing I think should stand would be for convicted felons being banned. Any litmus test, like a quiz or a drivers license like confirmation setup can be set to make one group or another less likely to pass (or so the screamers would be all about). Land ownership excludes a huge majority of people. Military service and possibly some kind of Federal/State services (such as FBI, CIA, State Police etc not congressional staffers/unionized paper pushers) might not be a bad idea at first but it forms the country into an aristocrcy of a different sort rather than a Republic. Want to *fix* the stupid voter problem? Become involved in the education system as a local board member or a teacher and cut out the liberal biased BS and subversive commie stuff from curriculum's and enforce *standards* for education. Help the next generation grow up with a more analytical outlook and desire to think for themselves instead of being sheeple...

Someone (perhaps here?) once proposed a modification to voting so it would be based on income. First, everyone gets a vote. Then, folks would get an extra vote for every $10K or so of annual income. The idea would be that everyone had the franchise, but (properly calculated), it would minimize the ability for people to "vote their own largess from the public trough."

Not sure how I feel about the idea, but it was certainly interesting.

"Boy howdy! It sure does. Funny, for such an expensive dress, it's shocking they way they managed to screw it up so bad. Now this one over here, which is 80 dollars cheaper, really accentuates your perfectly-proportioned bum."

re: #543 leereyno

Bingo! That needs repeating. The "gay agenda" is really a leftist agenda, and many homosexuals are letting themselves be used as pawns to advance the leftists agenda.

re: #568 subsailor68

Someone (perhaps here?) once proposed a modification to voting so it would be based on income. First, everyone gets a vote. Then, folks would get an extra vote for every $10K or so of annual income. The idea would be that everyone had the franchise, but (properly calculated), it would minimize the ability for people to "vote their own largess from the public trough."

Not sure how I feel about the idea, but it was certainly interesting.

I think that was me. At least I have advanced that proposal once. And got myself jumped on by N.Y. Nana, too, if I remember right. I still believe there needs to be some structural way to prevent that downward spiral of the shiftless voting for the candidates that promise them bread and circuses. Perhaps you could have universal suffrage for President and the House of Representatives, but restrict voting for Senate seats to people who have a track record of being net contributors to the economy, as evidenced by their tax records.

Anything that makes someone else's voice less than others is a bad idea. (besides that income is not a guarantee of being smart in political choices, look at all the fundraising abuse for O')
The alternative is not mob rule since we don't live in a directly purely democratic setup, rather a representative Republic so that it is hard to make substantive snap changes to the fabric of the system, slightly harder to treat the treasury as an open piggy bank for all. Harder though, not impossible as is being proven by the current fannie mae/freddie mac self induced crisis...

re: #242 Killgore Trout

I've toyed with the idea but I just can't do it. I will not be voting this time.

Gay marriage trumping all the other issues must make it simple.
I, too, don't over think it. I just determine which candidate the enemies of the USA want to be president, and then I vote against him.

608 anotherindyfilmguy  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 12:30:30pm

Or to put it another way:
If the weight of one persons ability to vote is based on income would anyone consider it *fair* that some trust fund baby who travels the world playing anarchist at G-8 summits/any US POTUS convention etc has more of a say than most folks in the Military?

re: #89 Teacake!

What is really odd is how the left hates big corporations and they hate a woman who takes them on.

One day I hope to figure out what the fuck goes in the lefty brain that creates the wonderland looking glass phenomenon.

A little late, but I have to remind you of a quote by Frederich Nietzche:

"When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back into you"

And believe me, there is no abyss greater than the vacuous space of a lefty's brain, so don't do it man!

610 DeeAitch  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 12:35:45pm

I oppose all fancy franchises. If an agency is created to decide between the quality of voters, it will be used to create an impregnable oligarchy.

One of the things that I like about Sarah Palin is that she seems like she'd want to have one of those framed and hung in her office.

Remember, I'm suggesting that voting rights be linked to the income tax paid by an individual, as an admittedly imperfect measurement of that individual's contribution to the cost of maintaining government. A "trust-fund baby" might not actually pay much tax at all, maybe even less than you, or less than Joe the Plumber, say.

Basically, what I'm looking for is a way of codifying "He who pays the piper calls the tune."

And I know it would be a tough sell. Perhaps we need to find some way to disenfranchise those who become parasites by choice or by repeated exercise of bad judgment.

Bear in mind this is all a matter of exploring possibilities; thinking in a sci-fi sort of space here, apropos Heinlein being mentioned up-thread.

I have to say, that picture of Palin as a Vampire is pretty cool, and if I were Sarah Palin, I'd hang a copy in my office for a laugh on Halloween.

615 classicLib  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 1:03:55pm

My God.

Attention rabid Palin hating lefties. Even if McCain loses this election, you have not heard the last of Sarah Palin. We finally got our Margaret Thatcher, and we aren't letting her go. Yeah, she needs to gain more knowledge, but in general that is a pretty easy task. She currently has something that usually can't be taught, leadership and she's genuine. She is the type of person that I would follow to hell and back simply because she is a leader and inspirational. I'll take a leader that needs to brush up on some facts over some bookworm wonk that couldn't inspire confidence in even the biggest kool-aide drinker.

re: #595 Charles

But that's different. He is The One.

I think there are enough Americans who don't think he's "the one" (including individuals inclined to vote for him) that asking him questions that *SHOULD* be asked of anyone with his background and paltry record would be fruitful.

The problem here isn't with Obama, its with the fawning liberal media, that has given him a pass in ways that are inexplicable outside of overt partisan bias.

Nobody has been asking him tough questions, except for maybe Joe the Plumber, and we all see what happened to him.

But at this 11th hour, I'm not holding my breath.

Looks like an NBC artists concept for the weekly SNL Fey skit from here.

Not nearly scary enough for Halloween, though.

Seems Sarah has liberal eating habits since she's evidently been feasting on blue blood socialists.

If the VP thing doesn't pan-out for her, she'd make a hot new Elvira or Fangoria...and make no mistake about it, the loony lefties literally loathe the fact Sarah is attractive...every time they see or hear it I can envision their blue blood boiling like a witches cauldron.

621 Spiny Norman  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 1:58:59pm

I think someone should print up stickers reading "JUDEN" and paste them over "VOTE" on these things and see if the loony liberal left that think they're oh-so-clever will see the history.

Ahh, I long for the days when you could have a simple disagreement with someone over politics.

Remember, this is only the latest in what has been a long, long litany of falsehoods, genuine smears and general looniness of a left-wing ideologiocy that truly thinks Socialism is a good idea.

This is what a good college education gets you.

Glad you did. Wish you many many more years. But to the point: did you consider the gigantic difference in historical context?
I am just beginning to read a piece ( the link to which I will have to find and post here) beginning so: " Since the time of Hitler civilization never has been so close to the brink of total catastrophe. This American election will decide whether civilization as we know it will survive".

re: #65 Pawn of the Oppressor

This seems to be their chief "talking point", such as it is - vote for Obama because McCain could die and OMG SARAH PALNIS IZ DUM AND SCARY!1.

My girl in NYC parroted this one right off the bat after she said she was voting for Obama. She seems to be aware that 0 is an inexperienced idiot though, so maybe there's hope. Dunno if I can talk her out of voting for him (she's a lifelong Dems Good/Repubs Evil type), but it's worth a try.

So basically she believes whatever the dizzy Hollywood left "celebu-tards" say. We all do at first and something happens to make us sit back and say."wait a minute....."

re: #541 sattv4u2

So whats to stop Gays from forming their own "church" and having their marriages as a "religious ceremony" As a matter of fact, I've always been surprised they havn't as of yet

(A) There is at least one Christian "denomination" in the U.S. -- the Metropolitan Community Church -- that was originally established by gays with the idea of having gay-majority congregations. (Quote marks around "denomination" because I think that MCC considers itself "non-denominational," but to my mind, saying "we're not a denomination" is like saying "I don't speak with an accent.")

(B) Besides MCC, other non-gay denominations do perform "blessings of the union" and suchlike for same-sex couples.

(C) But in any case, these religious ceremonies have absolutely no legal significance in most U.S. states, because most state governments will not issue marriage licenses (or ANY form of legally binding "couplehood certificate," under any name) to same-sex couples. That's kinda what the whole ongoing debate is about, if you haven't been paying attention.

Now I've seen everything: Alec Baldwin describes Sarah as polite, gracious and a good sport.

If she can win over a rabid lefty like Baldwin, there's no telling what the woman is capable of.

I just love that she seems to have such a great sense of humor about herself and doesn't let the attacks get to her. She went onto the left's turf Saturday night and totally disarmed them.

628 zack  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 3:15:59pm

We love her all the more. In just a few weeks, she's made many lifetime allies. Due to all the abuse thrown her way, I'll vote a straight ticket for her and everyone on her side of any ballot she appears on.

I think that's also why Tina Fey decided to do no more Sarah Palin impersonations.

Two articles above this one is a story about the "Stop Obama" bus.

This whole campaign is nothing but "don't vote for them" campaigning, rather than "here is why you should vote for us".

And you wonder why America is in such a sad state...

Sarah Palin so outshines the bitter haggard Tina Fey...you could feel Fey trying hard to keep her claws retracted as she passed by the lovely Gov. Sarah.

I realize that I'm expecting too much from these idiots - but how come THEIR websites never have a "contact us" button, or a place to post comments that disagree with them ? It's nice that the left can just toss stuff like this out there, and it's just expected that it's ok, because they're the left.

re: #119 opinionated

It's me too.

If that audience is not already highly motivated for the McCain ticket, the whole thing is futile.

A total waste of her time.

I disagree. If Sarah can motivate them to go to work on their friends, neighbors, people they know who are going to vote for Obama, it will NOT be a waste of her time. Many people, including some of us, would never vote for Obama, but many of us are not assertive enough to work on O supporters.

I laughed when I read the Klein quote because if you substitute "Obama" for "Palin" it makes perfect sense.
