The thing that should get your hairs to stand on edge, is not that Biden is predicting a crises- it is that he promises that the Obama Administration response will NOT be popular with the American people.

34 Ringo the Gringo  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 10:21:11am

What's most disturbing is the last part of Biden's his comment:

“And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you - not financially to help him - we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”

What the heck does that mean?

My worry is that they'll use this 'manufactured crisis' as an excuse to 1) ban firearms 2)implement a global tax or 3)fairness doctrine.

It's how they got the 'bailout bill' pushed through, after all.

97 Rexatosis  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 10:41:02am

Bush was tested by the Chinese almost immediately upon becoming President. Bush handled the incident over our aircraft and Chinese airspace firmly and coolly. As a result the US and China, though not in agreement on a host of issues, have been able to work together on issues of mutual interest (N. Korea) and avoid direct confrontation over other issues (Formosa/Taiwan). Clinton was tested in Mogadishu early in his term and withdrew American forces. As a result Islamist Extremists saw the U.S. as weak and increased their attacks on U.S. interests (culminating in 9/11). Thatcher was tested by the Argentinians (Falklands), Reagan's response to PATCO gave the Kremlin an understanding they were no longer dealing with Carter. All leaders of major states (and minor ones as well) are tested based on the initial impression the leader has given to the public and by extension to their international peers. The question one must ask is what type of impression has Obama given the world during his campaign (remember he had avoided as many debates and press conferences as possible and whines about Fox News ad nauseum) and does Obama have the grit to face tough challenges from the Chinese, Russians, Hugo Chavez, Jihadists, Iran, etc.? While Obama likes to compare himself to JFK he often leaves out how JFK's weakness regarding his first summit with Khruschev and JFK's pulling of the plug on the Bay of Pigs during the operation led to the world to the brink of nuclear armeggedon. One must thank Sen. Biden, who seems to have been taken to an undisclosed location for the rest of the campaign, for bringing up this important issue. Thanks Joe:)

This reminds me a a cartoon around the start of Iraq. It showed Paris in ruins and some Frenchmen saying "well their is no evidence Iraq has any more WMD's."

New York or any city could have millions dead in and I don't believe The One would respond with anything more than a speech and maybe a letter to the persons/group/country responsible.

114 Joan Not of Arc  Tue, Oct 21, 2008 10:49:14am

From Joe Biden's big, fat mouth to God's ears....
Bolton, as usual, is dead-on. Obama is seen as untested and soft because he is. No one wanted Reagan as president because they knew he would take a hard-line (boy, were they right). Obama came right out and said he would meet with Ahmadinejad without pre-conditions. If skilled diplomats could not persuade Iran, Obama certainly cannot.
Slightly off-tangent, not matter who wins (and God willing it won't be Obama), other countries will always have a reason to hate America and Americans. There should be no reason why anyone wants to reach out or change.

Alan Colmes is more courageous than 90% of liberals who won't have a civil discussion with someone with whom they disagree.

By appearing on Fox News, Alan Colmes is an unusual liberal wanting to reach out across the aisle and influence folks positively, like Hillary and her handlers were the last few months of Hillary's campaign.

The service oath is to the Constitution and those who also swear to support and defend it in a specific order. Once an O' administration with a dem supermajority started trampling the Constitutional rights of the US they'd be fair game for defending against. To actually alter the Constitution takes more than the sitting Federal government can do by itself. to ignore and trample it is something they can do at risk of civil war.

Not that it'll happen anytime soon, McCain will be POTUS by landslide imo.

Bolton, with out notes and on the fly, fires back direct answers just as fast and makes both Obama and Colmes look like dummies simultaneously. Why isn't Bolton on a ballot somewhere?

If the question was only about stupidity, I would not revile Colmes so much. H+C has been banned from my TV for almost 3 years, dating from the night Colmes accused American troops of terrorizing innocent Iraqi families in their homes. Colmes drew an implicit equivalence between Al Qaeda and our own military. I was incensed when Colmes made the charge, and furthur outraged when Hannity didn't walk off the set.

That hasn't been brought up by anyone, much less McCain, in those stark terms, in this entire campaign.

Out of the pie hole of Joe the FP expert:

"Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."

Attempting to get inside this little gem is tough sledding but is says several things to me:

1. Joe has several test scenarios in mind and has already determined what the response will be - and that the American people will not agree with the decision: Astounding!

2. Is it possible that VP Joe laid this major egg without any consultation with Barry or Axelrod: If No, then double Astounding and Stupid; if Yes then beyond belief and G.. help us.

Course it is all understandable due to his admission that he has "forgotten more about foreign Policy..." . That part he did get right.

Course it is all understandable due to his admission that he has "forgotten more about foreign Policy..." . That part he did get right.

Let's not forget that in the debate with Palin, within the span of a few words, he declared:
(a) That Hezbollah had been kicked out of Lebanon
(b) That the Hamas elections gave them control of the West Bank (in fact, Hamas controls Gaza, , not the West Bank)
(c) That he and Obama wanted to bring NATO in to fill the (imaginary) void left by the (imaginary) fleeing Hezbollah. (It would be highly unlikely that NATO would want to come to the defense of a non-NATO country (i.e., Lebanon)).

And all this from a guy who is supposed to give Obama foreign policy cred.

One of the many things that pissed me off about G.W.
