Reposting from a previous thread, re Sarah Palin.
In a frank discussion today with a friend, he said: "They hate her because she's a WOMAN! She's sexy, she's SMART, she's fertile, she's in charge, she procreates, she has a stud husband, she likes to f*$K!
She's a force. She uses what she's got and takes no excuses. I love Sarah. She can be my president any day because she gets people.

IMO, little O's campaign is not uniting people, as he claims, but it's setting race relations in this country back 40 years, maybe more. White people cannot seem to have a discussion about the presidential race without being labeled as bigots or racists if they vote for McCain, no matter what the real reason is for their voting preference. On the other hand, blacks can vote for little O for no other reason than he is black, and that's because of "pride". Right... I tell you what. Since everything whites say nowadays seems to be a code word for "black", I've got a code word for you, and I've heard it used by several of my black friends at work. When they discuss the race, they use the word "historic". I've come to the conclusion that the word "historic", when used by a black person in reference to the presidential race, actually means "I'm voting for Obama because he's black and I'm black. That's it. And there's nothing you can say about it because you're a racist voting for McCain". It's amazing. I've also come to the conclusion that this year's presidential race is the political equivalent of the O.J. Simpson acquittal. In that case, a predominantly black jury basically said "we know he's guilty, but since white folks have gotten away with killing black folks for so many years, this is a little bit of payback. So there". This year, blacks are saying, in much greater numbers "hey, we know this guy will probably screw the country up, but he's one of us, and it's our time to be in power". In essence, it's payback time. Okay, the rant is over. Time to get off the soapbox and start ducking.

Some women identify with Obama's effeminate ways, others like his handouts. Women tend to favor social benefits, even if they are stupid. However, for some (and maybe enough) women, that appeal can be undercut by pointing out the dangers Obama poses.

What is shocking me is that suddenly terms that I learned in college in intro to poli sci classes are now being described as code words. I'm not talking about the terms that we are seeing in the news. I heard someone say that a term I would use to support the constitution is now a code word. You know now that I think about it, what better way to destroy our country than to start describing every word connected to our political system as code words.

For one who raises sooooo much money and has soooo many supporters and sooooo many delegates and alllll the media and soooooo much support from the machine including the coveted Colin Powell why isn’t he further ahead in the polls then the not so conservative McCain and the not very smart wrong pick Lady VP?
Hmmmmmmm! All the money in the world just can’t buy this presidency so easily can it?In a year when a party that could not loose stands up a candidate against a man who could not win with enough of money to bribe God himself - here we sit on the verge of shutting him down- NOBAMA!
McCain is taking PA. Obama's ad blitz will backfire. Plus something is not right with Obama heading to Hawaii. Bill and Hill are being summoned to PA.

Some women identify with Obama's effeminate ways, others like his handouts. Women tend to favor social benefits, even if they are stupid. However, for some (and maybe enough) women, that appeal can be undercut by pointing out the dangers Obama poses.

Ozark Mountain Daredevil - not to complicate things again, but how do you find out if you have more than one firewall? I have a few things and I don't know if they all have firewalls. Spybot and AVG and I have no idea how to shut off the Windows one or if I should.
Spybot is an anti-spyware program I use, it's good. I'd also recommend downloading windows defender, ad-aware, and spybot search and destroy, you can google all the names, but make sure you only download the free programs.
AVG is an anti-virus program, and also good. I've been using all of these FREE programs for years with zero problems.
The only thing is that since they're free, you'll have to run and update them yourself. But all you have to do is click on the update button before you run them to download their latest updates
Hope this helps you out, since I got tired of my family and friends, including you all here, paying for stuff that is available for free and works just as good as the stuff you pay for from Norton, Symantec, etc.

Hmm. I think Dennis Prager is right on when he says:
"Why won't those who favor redefining marriage accord the same respect to the millions of us who want gays to be allowed to love whom they want, live with whom they want, be given the rights they deserve along with the dignity they deserve, but who still want marriage to remain man-woman?"
I support such civil unions as it gives them important legal rights. Gay marriages also poses a serious threat to many religious who may be targeted, sued, or lose their tax-exempt status due to so-called "hate speech".

I blogged this while I was in Iraq, three months before I lost my arm.
While sitting around tonight, we were talking a little bit about what it's going to be like when we get home. We're not going to have a clue what has been going on in the world. Trends, fads, music, movies, TV, radio, the presence of family and friends again, getting accustomed to not wearing body armor when leaving the house, and not driving armored vehicles with loaded weapons everywhere; it's going to be very confusing and frustrating. Getting back into the swing of things, I'm looking forward to college, but in a way I'm not. I'll be the crazy old war vet sitting in class, giving scowling looks to the 19 year old who complains about writing a report, or having to read 50 pages, or how much books cost. They've never met people who come to their front gate to beg for food and water on a daily basis. People who walk barefoot across the desert in 130 degree heat just to try and sell you some worthless Saddam money so they'll have money to buy food. They've never lived in a country that has known nothing but death, torture, and destruction from dictatorship. They've never met people whose neighbors were executed for speaking out against the government. They've never had their entire town or village buried in a mass grave. These are the hardships the people of Iraq have had to face over generations. Sure, I may whine about how bad the food is, how little sleep I get, or how bad the weather is here, but it's nothing compared to these people. They live it every day. At the end of my deployment, I go home. They stay here, trying to make something out of nothing. There have been speed bumps along the away, and will be many more ahead. Things are getting better here. I don't give a rat’s ass less about what you read on CNN, FOX, Newsweek, or any other large media outlet. They only see what they want to see. They only dish out the news they want people to here, even if sometimes it’s not even news. Life is better for the Iraqis because of us.I believe in the cause here. I believe we are creating a better world by creating a stable region in the Middle East. I believe we are correct for finishing "unfinished business" left over from the first Gulf War. Most of all, I believe in giving these people freedom. Even if the term or even the definition is still vague or unknown to some people here in Iraq, its meaning is becoming well known. Out of tragedy in our own country comes a blessing to another. I do not regret coming here. I do not regret joining the military. If I should have to give the ultimate sacrifice while I am here, I know it is not in vain.

It is the same reason teenage girls like boy bands. They are not as threatening as real men. And that's OK when you still live at home with dad but not as appealing when it's time to pick a husband. These women are stuck as teenagers much like the men they hang around with that still think Dad should support them monetarily. Socialism taken is taken too far in many families and screws up kids keeping them children forever.

Did Google use its network of online services to silence critics of Barack Obama? That was the question buzzing on a corner of the blogosphere over the last few days, after several anti-Obama bloggers were unable to update their sites, which are hosted on Google’s Blogger service. The bloggers in question, most of them supporters of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and all of them opposed to Senator Obama, received a notice from Google last week saying that their sites had been identified as potential “spam” blogs. “You will not be able to publish posts to your blog until we review your site and confirm that it is not a spam blog,” the Google e-mail read.

No. I just had an advisor meeting today and realized how far away I am actually graduating. Even though I already have 90 credits, they don't accomplish jack toward my major of technology education. I might as well be a freshman! I'd just learned today I have to take a freshman writing class, which is funny because some of my writing has been published in a couple different books on the war, and I'm in the middle of writing my own book.
I was going to double major in construction and technology education, but with the setbacks I already have with my transfer credits, and the fact I have a nasty case of TBI that affects my memory and concentration, I'm going to be here long enough as it is. I do my best to hold my own intellectually, but I'm not the same person I was when I left for Iraq. I have a hard time remembering things and I've lost some of my vocabulary. It's okay though, it could always be worse. I could've come home dead.

I agree 100%. That's why I recommended the ones I did in my #105. I've been using ALL of them for at least 3 years, and most of them longer.
Generally, I found the downloads at CNET.com's website, [Link: www.download.com,...] and I've been downloading freeware, shareware, and buyware from there for about 10 years and never had a problem.
CNET is a secure spot to get tools from. I was just reminding folks to be careful. Can't tell you how many computers I've had to clean up after someone installed this "great" "free" anti-spyware app they found while surfing.

From drhurd.com:
Profiles in Pacifism
Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama for President can be explained by only one of two factors. Either he's making a decision based on race; or he never believed what he claimed to believe while in high government positions over the past 20 years. Consider the context. Powell was Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor; Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under the first President Bush; and George W. Bush's first Secretary of State. Although Powell was always associated more with the moderate than the conservative wing of the Republican Party, he chose to work for Republican Presidents who certainly believed in the use of American military force. He was no fan of President Clinton -- a rabid conservative when contrasted to Barack Obama -- and he stepped down from his post soon after Clinton took office. There's no reason to think that Obama believes in the use of any military force -- outside the context of "humanitarian" missions to aid African dictators and the like -- and, as we know, Obama even favors overt pacifism towards the West's most dangerous enemies, such as Iran. What on earth would lead Colin Powell to openly endorse him for President? One can only assume that Colin Powell never believed in the relatively hawkish policies he once pursued, particularly against Saddam Hussein in Iraq; or that he is opting to support Obama for reasons of race rather than national security principle. It's another sign that the world has gone mad, and that once respectable Americans are on the political and intellectual equivalent of a drunken rampage. Check back in a year, and witness the results of the hangover, once it has fully set in.

I don't think policy means much to Powell this time around if his endorsement is about race (I'm not sure it is, BTW). -Obama has travelled the entire USA.
“I’ve now been in 57 states”
-Did you know that …..
“Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s”
- The best one!
- Obama uses Lancet method of counting, noting "10,000 people dead" during Kansas tornado in 2007.
-Uhhhhhhhhh..... yeah.
-Obama says:
“I had an uncle, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz.”
-Obama forgets his own religion:
-Obama says Al Qaeda, ... no, ... wait ..... Al-Qaeda leadership, not in Iraq
-Obama gives Joe Biden a promotion.
-Obama remembers "the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbour".
-Blindingly obvious:
"Had those political factors not occurred, I think that my assessment would have been correct."
[Link: blogs.abcnews.com...]
Yes. And had my lottery numbers not been wrong, I would have won the big one.
-Obama says no to military army. Yes to civilian army.
“We’ve got to have a civilian national security force …. That’s just as powerful, just as strong.”
-Obama, the ambitious prophet, forecasts ahead:
"the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with .... who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.”
[Link: www.timesonline.co.uk...]
US Presidents cannot serve more than 8 years.
-Obama tells voters that McCain's policy reflects a 4th Bush term:
-Give that guy a map .....
- .... and compass ....
[Link: media.nationalreview.com...]
- ... with directions ....
- Obama wants to speak to the "President of Canada".
-Obama on Afghan languages…. Struggling, .... struggling .....

If one calls you, just before concluding the call, ask the pollster, "How do you intend to compensate for the possibility of the Bradley Effect on me?"
It might get a "Huh?" response, or it may throw a pipe wrench into the two gears spinning wildly in that puny skull.

Interesting...
In case you missed this week's issue of the Army/Navy/Air Force Times here are the results of the Army Times' poll of Military personnel re the election (in percent):
McCain ObamaOverall 68 23
Army 68 23
Navy 69 24
Air Force 67 24
Marines 75 18
Retirees 72 20
White Non-Hispanic 76 17
Hispanic 63 27
Black/African-American 12 79 (NOT A TYPO)
Enlisted 67 24
Officers 70 22
Since, historically, most active duty military personnel vote by absentee ballot (like I did in '76, '80, and '84), I wonder if the Democratic lawyers, seeing these numbers, will try to have them disqualified, like they attempted to do to Florida military absentee ballots in the '00 election (anybody remember that one? It was disgusting). And btw, I believe those numbers for the black military personnel; it just reflects the mob mentality of their civilian counterparts.

Well, the first set of slurs were created specifically to put down the ethnicities to which they refer, usually in some sort of cultural conflict.
The second set is the properly-derived demonyms:
The Swedish government is composed of Swedes.
The Polish government is composed of Poles.
The Czechoslovakian government no longer exists, anyway. And the people are properly Czechs and Slovaks.

If the no vote is greater than the yes vote and you hear that California has voted to allow gay marriage, the media will likely not report that the voters were tricked into it by one man "Jerry Brown". And Gov Schwarzenegger is obviously a RINO.

I believe the military survey numbers. When we took over for the Georgia National Guard in Iraq, I could not believe how segregated everything was within their ranks. Everything from their tower shifts to the living quarters were separated based on race. The only thing that wasn't segregated were the NCOs running the post. But they've bitched about one another as soon as the other would turn their back. Apparently the Civil War is alive and well in Georgia.

or, in other words:
I don’t know what ‘the west’ wants, but Americans are simple: we want
the rest of the world to go away and stop bothering us.
Understand I’m not speaking for myself — I’d be on a plane somewhere
365 days a year if I could manage it. But Americans generally don’t
like being forced to confront the outside world. We have quite a large
country of our own and if we find it cramped there’s always Canada
(America Lite).
Americans want to spend their days working. We like working. We like
coming up with crazy plans and turning them into billion dollar
businesses. If we’re not working we want to hang out with family. We
don’t like thinking about politics, we’re not the French. We don’t
like having to learn the differences between Shia and Sunni because,
quite frankly, we don’t give a damn. We just want to work and hang out.
From time to time Americans are forced to recognize the existence of
some other piece of the world: Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq. We resent
being forced to do so. We didn’t really know these places existed,
didn’t care, and don’t wish to be irritated by them because we have
work to do.
So we fall back on simple, direct solutions to ease the irritation:
nuke ‘em all. Nuke ‘em all, and then get back to work. It’s not that
we harbor particular malice toward one country or another, one religion
or another. What we harbor is indifference. If you threaten our
indifference by forcing us to pay attention to you and your intractable
foreign problems we may have to blow something up just so you’ll go
away. There is, after all, money to be made, and work to be done, and
family to be hung out with.
We’re busy: don’t make us kill you.
I grant that in some cases it’s our own government’s actions that force
us into the position of having to learn where Fallujah is
(answer: who cares?) but that doesn’t alter our underlying sense that
the whole world should just stop bothering us and let us get back
to work.

Oh, you know who is back I see. Doesn't have much else better to do I guess.
I'm back in Beijing now, just checked into the hotel. Nanchang was a blast, the turnwife and I ventured out into the back streets of the city and mingled with the locals. We must have been the first foreigners to visit some of the little noodle kitchens and sit down with the locals to eat. At one we had accumulated a crowd of about 10 children who were wondering around all giggly around us. It got a little overbearing after a while so I gestured move away and said boo-yow. The shopkeeper shooed them away but the mingled outside until we were done eating then the oldest approached us again. She had brought back her English language studies booklet so I caved in an read English and quizzed them all for a little while. They followed us all the way back to the hotel! Another little noodle kitchen we frequented was run by this husband and wife, she worked the day shift and he filled in later in the day. This place is about 8' x 12' with the cooking wok set alongside the street side window, great food and of course cheap. A bowl of noodles with a meat and vegetable topping (soup stock flavor to die for) ran about 4 RMB and icy cold Tsingtao is about the same. We got such good service considering the total lack of language understanding. Although the owners were obviously barely getting by the man refused to allow me to leave a tip! We returned the next day and had an early lunch and the turnwife sat beside the wife and they watched Chinese soaps on the TV. The turnwife says these Chinese soaps are juicy ... Ha! Just fantastically kind and friendly people over here in China.

Knoxville gasoline prices continue to fall, dropping Tuesday to an average of $2.87 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Diesel dropped 3.5 cents to $3.554.
Gas prices in the Knoxville area have plunged about 70 cents in the past month and are down about $1.78 since peaking Sept. 15 at $4.652, the highest average price in the country at that time.
A year ago, Knoxville motorists paid an average of $2.685 for gas, the auto club reported.
Retail fuel prices have fallen steadily in recent weeks as consumers have cut consumption and oil prices have plunged more than 50 percent since hitting a high of $147.27 a barrel on July 11.

re: #123 Ozark Mountain Daredevil
Norton, Symantec, etc, and any anti-spyware, anti-virus or firewall programs you have to pay for are a waste of money. Delete them.
There are great programs available for free that work as good or better than those you have to pay for, and like I said, I've been using them for years and never had a problem.
See my #105 above.
I was a serious Norton supporter for about 15 years, but the past 5 years they've bloated beyond recognition and are almost their own operating system, for complexity.
Microsoft's firewall only checks and blocks incoming traffic, and ignores outgoing traffic. Meaning you have no defense against a questionable program on your computer 'phoning home' without you knowing about it. Thus you're safer with a firewall that monitors both incoming and outgoing traffic for problems.
I played with a wide variety of freeware antivirus, antispyware and firewall programs for a couple of years, and finally got tired of small incompatibilities between them, as well as a lack of support from authors who understandably cannot spend much time helping someone for free. There ain't no free lunch, and ya gets what ya pays for.
Due to ongoing pesky little annoyances, after reading some reviews I finally dumped all of my antivirus, antispyware and firewall software and got Sunbelt Software's combined antivirus/antispyware product (VIPRE), and also their firewall. I left the standard XP firewall on my wife's computer, and installed the Sunbelt firewall on mine for comparison. The Sunbelt product is definitely a stronger firewall, but you need a bit of technical knowledge to keep it tuned up, similar to ZoneAlarm Pro.
What I like best about it is how they blended VIPRE's antivirus and antispyware modules together, which makes a more efficient product that uses less processor time. VIPRE also has a tool for showing you what programs load at startup, versus what programs are running in the background right now.
Also take a look at Registry Mechanic to keep your registry clean, Driver Detective to keep your drivers updated, and Acronis TrueImage which gives better hard drive backup protection than Norton Ghost. Get a monster external USB hard drive, do regular backups with TrueImage, and keep the USB drive in a safe, or at a different location.
Also check out a nifty little free utility called Process Explorer by Sysinternals, a Microsoft subsidiary. This little program is like Windows Task Manager on steroids. If a pesky program is hogging all of your CPU time, Process Explorer can be used to throttle it down or even to temporarily suspend it's operation so you can go about your business.
Luck.

Now, about those tire valves...
Sorry, can't make the connection. At any rate, talking about tire valves. One thing I did for a while today is watch a drive up bike repairman fix flat tires for the locals. They put out a big sandwich board that has the price of their various repairs (this is what I gathered not that I could read anything other than how many RMB for each). This guy and his wife were fixing flats and it was very entertaining to watch. They were so meticulous in there work, first buffing the tire applying the solvent then the patches. Oh and hand air pumps of course. One trick I picked up on was he had sort of a mini hammer and anvil setup and would pound around and around the patch to really make that sucker stick. I guess you learn something every day, ah and he did remover the shrader valve for a close inspection and replacement if needed. Ha!

At face value, nothing. I mean....shit- didn't stop Ellison from getting elected. But if that is the case (which I doubt), why wasn't this disclosed until now? I think it would make most thinking people ponder what else was being hidden from them.
Plus I imagine a fair number American Muslims are much more saner and moderate than 0bama's "NAW NAW NAW....GOD DAMN AMERICA!" faux 'church'.

Try Gibson Research's "SHIELDS UP" scanner. Not a download -- it sees your IP address and pings all vital ports on your internet connection, letting you know afterwards how the test came out. If you have any leaks it recommends how to plug 'em. Shows you how vulnerable your computer is to hacker attacks.
Click on the Shields Up logo on his opening page, and then scroll down to the Shields Up selection and select that. Then click on the radio buttons for the type of port scan you desire.
Steve Gibson is a legend. Great website -- read his info notes. Also has a few other free utilities to plug internet leaks etc.

You guys need to be nice to me today. As a Pennsylvanian I'm starting to feel just a tad beat up in this election. :-(
/did I say starting?
well, if you lived in the PRC with me, you'd get crap 24/7/365, instead of every 4 years.....
but our winters are warmer, and i throw great parties! besides, the in ground pool is still 80*ish, and it was 90* here again today: if you're gonna do fall, this is the way.
(now, will you please throw out Murtha? %-)

re: #405 empills
littleoldlady have you gotten any phonecalls from obamanites yet?
You're kidding, right?
There's two Republicans and one Democrat in this house. (I'm the Dem, btw.) The interesting thing is the Republicans are getting mail from the Democrats, I'm getting mail from the Repubs, and as far as phonecalls...I haven't answered my phone in over a month but I KNOW we're getting calls from everyone running for office anywhere in this country! ;-)
re: #406 Bordm
At the very least I hope that Murtha is FINALLY sent packing.
The election is going to be close in PA...
