But he's a man of the people. /
Seriously though, the cost of his threads isn't important. It's that he's an empty suit whose economic policies are a prescription for disaster. His fellow Democrats are pushing tax and spend schemes that we simply cannot afford, nor even bother experimenting in because it's more of the same failed tax and spend policies that gave us the Great Society.

And remember undecided voters, Joe Biden seems to live in an alternate reality. From the debate:
When we kicked -- along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, "Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don't know -- if you don't, Hezbollah will control it."
Now what's happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel.
This is just loony, most of Biden's gaffes have been amusing, but for the most part harmless as far as policy goes. This represents something that is a current event that just didn't happen, and the press has ignored it. And Biden is supposed to make up for Obama's lack of foreign policy credentials and he gets something this wrong!
In case anyone doesn't remember, no one kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, Israel tried, but went for a brokered (soon to be broken) cease-fire that left Hezbollah fully entrenched. With useless UN "peace keepers" in place.

That is a fascinating question I've never heard anyone ask before. He was obviously a loner at college and law school, where he is either unremembered or left only a shallow impression. I hear this frequently strangely enough. As I have said before, that is why I have a campaign sign up. As I'm sitting out front smoking and drinking my coffee, I get people come by all the time and ask questions. It is amazing how many people have NOT heard about the things we routinely discuss on LGF daily. No one that has stopped had even heard of ACORN, much less their nefarious activities. They have heard the constant chipping away at Palin-this is tempered because "everyone" knows the press lies.
Short answer is; Yes, there are still undecided voters out there that are for the most part unaware of events. Admittedly, it is a self inflicted wound on their part-but true nonetheless.

Now .. try, though you won't succeed, to put yourself into the mind of a black American. How can you experience or understand the legacy of segregation, violence and second-class citizenry your ancestors went through and not take pride in a black American on the verge of winning the presidency? How many black American voters do you think are uttering to themselves: "If my grandfather had only lived to see this." It takes a great deal of maturity and a clear understanding of the possible future consequences for someone to put their racial pride aside and swim against the tide on this one. So, there will be no name-calling, at least not here, for people who cast their vote on the basis of race in this election. As I said, It's understandable.
I have a name for those people: racists. I'm against one standard for whites who vote on the basis of race, and another for like-minded blacks. Also, how many black people alive today really "experienced the legacy of segregation, violence and second-class citizenry"? Certainly there are some, but not the majority. And if the majority of blacks "understand the legacy" of what their ancestors went through, then they should understand that it's not the color of one's skin that matters, but the content of their character, right? And we're back to Obama's character....

With $605 million already, Obama asks only $10 more from each of us.
Having hauled in a record $208,333 every hour of every day last month -- $150 million in all -- plus a few more unreported millions so far this month, Barack Obama is worried that he might come up short in the political money war with the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket.
Just to relieve himself of that $150 million before the polls open, Obama will have to spend $12.5 million a day.

I am not surprised by the number of undecideds. After Obama mades his infamous 'get in their face" speech, well, I did just that with any Obama supporter who happened to stumble into me. At first I was surprised by their lack of knowledge regarding the candidates. After several of these encounters it became apparent that a lack of knowledge was actually a criteria for Obama support.
The point being that if a lot of Obama supporters are for the most part ignorant of the candidates, it is not a far leap to assume their are a lot of politically ignorant voters out there, many who can't make up their minds who to vote for, because they really don't much about either candidate.

I thought about that, too. I found one video on You Tube of a guy who says he was at Harvard Law with Obama and they played basketball together at the gym. According to this guy, Obama was hands down the smartest guy who had ever gone through Harvard Law.
Ok, I accept that being on the Law Review is a big deal, and being its leader is even more so. But where is the documentary proof? If this guy is such a braniac, there should be oodles of good stuff he's left as a trail behind, but none is proffered.

re: #60 filetandrelease
I have yet to find a SINGLE Obama supporter that can go ~any~ further than the talking points. Once those are shot down, they usually resort to hollering and name calling.

Alternatively, the ones he did hang out with are afraid to go public or say anything against him. (Clearly, they wouldn't be afraid to say anything positive, if they could).

What bothers me is the number of people who are willing to admit every single one of Obama's failings--every one--even to the point, or almost to the point, of conceding that at best all they can do is make excuses for his many bad positions, ugly alliances, etc.
And then say that they are going to vote for him anyway because "we need change."
I told several fellow-congregants yesterday that, if it weren't for the fact that they are going to drag me down with them, I would like to see them living under an Obama presidency--just so that they'd get what they wished for. But that I was not about to inflict such a thing on myself if I could help it.

Ayers is simply a reflection of Obama's own policies.
If you were to look at Ayers alone and his connection to Obama it would not a small issue. But when Obama's own statements actually fit into Ayer's political, and world view, you have an issue.
His views on Israel. His views on "wealth spreading". His views on patriotism. His views on American's standing in the world. His views on Nationalization of everything. Etc.

Obama is just a Bill Ayers who has a carefully crafted political past (where he runs against no one and votes for nothing controversial), and who can use his skin color as cover. If you call Obama anti-American, Communist, or dangerous to this country, you are now a racist, and Ayers and his pals get the White House they tried to burn down four decades ago.

Same problem here. My mother will vote for Obama because for some reason, Palin sends her into a frothing rage. My Dad and I, on the other hand, are big fans of Sarah :)
My mom's dislike of Sarah has something to do with her supposed inexperience (and yet she has more than Obama but is only up for VP, not the top slot) and Palin's lack of support for abortion. Not sure why my 60+ year old mom, who has spent her entire adult life as a non-activist housewife and mother is suddenly so concerned about abortion. She would never have had one and I'm pretty sure this is the first time it's ever come up in conversation between us. And yet there's so much questionable about Obama and she just doesn't seem to care about that.
Like you said, I love her but I don't get how anyone can view Obama as the better candidate or good for the country.

Indeed we're watching the 2008 election fiasco unfolding before our very eyes. She goes beyond that demanding that others not do the checks either, and has claimed that the databases that would be used to verify the voter information is somehow inaccurate. It's the total breakdown of trust in the most essential of government functions - assuring accurate and trustworthy elections.

I wouldn't go as far as to call Ayers a "mastermind" but the facts show that all is going according to plan (albeit maybe slower than they have desired).
These facts are evident by the platform of the Democrat party, and the actions of the "grass roots". The Left is almost in lock-step with the mantra of the Revolutionist/Communist manifesto. The Democrat chants we hear today are quotes from Ayers book, and the Anti-American, Communist teachings of the time.
This is what scares the living ____ out of me, for the future of America.
If Socialism actually worked, I'd be all for it. (shoot, I was all for it in College, practically a card carrying Marxist) But History (something no longer honestly taught in Socialist leaning Universities, etc.) shows that every time Communism was tried it failed, and with horrible results!

Goodbye- I'm not coming back. I am disgusted by Sarah Palin- she is an insult to working, educated women and all Americans. My grandparents allcame here over 100 years ago for all the freedoms they didn't have under a Tzar and a Kaiser and their sons fought in WWII and worked hard jobs so their children could be educated- so some badly educated person with a secessionist husband can say I'm not a real American because I live in a big city, have a good education(that I paid for) and no doubt, because I am a Jew. Well, I'm a harder worker and more of an American than she'll ever be. I'm not reading this ever again- so feel free to say whatever crap you want about me. You should be ashamed of her too.

Dunno how strong the Catholic Church is in the USA - but from past history us Euroweenies can tell you that taking on the Catholic Church on something like abortion is a very very big mistake!
By 'Church' I mean the Bishops, Cardinals, up to the Pope - not a good idea at all!
Even the proper, bona fide communists (as opposed to the B0-communists) in Poland got beaten by the Catholic Church ... Pope John Paul II, anybody?
A lot of people here only see the Kennedy Catholics. Liberal weenies from MA and their nationwide cohorts. There are many other Catholics in the US who are anti-abortion and the whole partial birth abortion survivor issue is being talked about within the bounds of our homes and friends homes etc.
I look forward to excuses from obambi to take away ALL tax exempt status from organized religion in an effort to both garner money and to set up the state religion of a rainbow communism.

So, my sister is going to vote for Obama because... she thinks Sarah Palin is a religious nut who will create a theocracy in America. Yeah, no kidding. I asked her why she thinks this, she showed me a YouTube video with Pentacostals speaking in toungues and said, "that's what Sarah Palin believes in." I asked her how she "knows" this; she heard it on "The View" (She also didn't vote for Bush because Rosie O'Donnel said he was "too stupid"). I asked her if she knew what goes on weekly in Obama's church, she says, "It doesn't matter, he doesn't go much." I finally ask her why she's so fixated on Palin. I remind her that she really liked McCain back in 2000. Her answer: "He's different now. He's one of Bush's kind. Also, he'll almost certainly be dead in the first year, he's got skin cancer, so you're really electing Palin."
Wow.
I mean, I love my sister to death, but I think that in any decent society, she wouldn't be qualified or allowed to vote. Seriously. Why should we be led by the winner of a popularity contest among the lowest common denominators? I'm starting to think that property ownership might not be a bad requirement after all. Maybe our founding fathers were onto something...

Boise State smoking ban includes parking lot of Bronco Stadium, cars parked on campus
But Bronco fans won’t be permitted to puff cigarettes or other tobacco products outside the stadium between game plays — or during tailgating parties. For that matter, anywhere on campus. The smoking ban that takes effect in the fall of 2009 will include Bronco Stadium and the parking lot, where thousands of fans congregate to grill, drink and, in some cases, smoke.
The plan to expand smoke-free areas to envelope all university-owned and leased property was announced Tuesday.
They began considering expansion of the school’s smoke-free zone to include the whole campus about three years ago, before the idea caught on nationally. BSU will join at least 160 colleges and universities with curb-to-curb non-smoking policies.

Yup, that's the difference between this election and Europe voting in Socialists. Their Socialists (and even most of their Communists) played by the rules, as ours have for decades as well. People in Europe voted in the Socialists with open eyes, knowing exactly what their program was.
But the Socialists realized they would NEVER win in America, at least for another 30-40-50 years or more, running as Socialists. But even with the Socialists running a backdoor campaign, and spending hundreds of millions of dollars, and engaging in massive voter fraud, the race is still a dead heat.

Man is inherently capable of and vulnerable to sin; even those who have been ordained Bishops and Pope. That does not undermine the status of the church as the bride of Christ. The members of the body may stumble with their crosses but the mission and purpose of the church continues and is guided by the Holy Spirit to achieve the glory of God. Even Peter denied Christ, his Lord and Savior but God rewared him anyway with the title of vicar of the Church. God understands and expects our failings. It is the mercy and grace however that he pours out to the contrite that restores our states of grace.
Tying this in to a comment ago about BHO possibly exempting the Catholic Church's tax status, I add only be not afraid of this occurring.

As Boortz writes...
Is race a sound reason to cast a vote? Probably not. Is it understandable? Absolutely. I cannot fault a black American for voting for Obama. It may turn out to be a negative vote insofar as their dreams and goals are concerned. It may not work out all that well for their children, especially if they're ambitions and talented. But I don't think many of us can absolutely say that we wouldn't be casting the same vote were we in their shoes.
Boortz excuses blacks who vote for Obama for no other reason than race. How in the hell, is that helpful? Make up your mind damn it. Do you want informed voters or the same racial identity politics? I think this diminishes an otherwise well written essay.

Ok, I accept that being on the Law Review is a big deal, and being its leader is even more so. But where is the documentary proof? If this guy is such a braniac, there should be oodles of good stuff he's left as a trail behind, but none is proffered.

When did Palin say that those who lived in big cities weren't really American, etc.?
or those that are educated?
or Jews? (considering that she keeps an Israeli flag in her office, this might be the weirdest comment of the paragraph.)
Also, wouldn't a strong, independent, woman think it pretty cool that even though the first Dude looked at the weird independent party, Sarah's beliefs did not allow her to become a puppet for his ego?

Let's experiment:
I cannot fault a white American for voting for McCain. It may turn out to be a negative vote insofar as their dreams and goals are concerned. It may not work out all that well for their children, especially if they're ambitious and talented. But I don't think many of us [black people] can absolutely say that we wouldn't be casting the same vote were we in their shoes.
Yep. Sounds just as stupid that way, too.

Btw, I think this might need to be reiterated...With polls there's usually a category titled "undecided"...but that's something of a misnomer. Many times the respondent to a poll will choose not to answer a poll question...but rather than come out and say this, they'll claim, "Well, I'm undecided" (yeah, sure...) In reality, they've made up their minds, but they're not willing to go public or state who they've chosen as the next POTUS (and they're certainly not going to be telling it to a pollster.)

Just got back from the neighborhood freight place, and one of their customers was laughing about having absentee ballots from three countries: Haiti, South Africa and the US. I know of instances where one can vote in two countries legally, but I think three is probably pushing the bounds of believability. Wouldn't take a genius to figure which one was probably the most fraudulent, either. So it's happening, it's happening retail, and it's happening right here.

True on both, but knowing her I think it would have come up at some point before Palin's nomination. Of all the things she could object to about a candidate...this wasn't the one I'd have expected to be her hot button issue. I think it's really something else. She hates Bush and I think maybe she just wants an excuse not to vote Republican.

What a loser you are.
At this point, McCain and Sarah Palin could spit in my face, kick me in the nuts and call me a hick and I'd still vote for them. It's not about me or them. It's about our country.
Madisonsfriend reveals the shallow self-centeredness that is at the heart of our problems. I believe Sarah made some remark while in the Midwest about people in this area being more patriotic than on the coasts. Now, of course any rationally-thinking McCain/Palin supporter would realize that she was not talking about him/her personally, just about the difference between the coasts and the midwest in general, and that her remarks were pretty mild compared to Obama's "clinging to guns and religion" statement and Murtha's "rednecks" statement.
But Madisonsfriend takes Sarah's statement personally and abandons the ticket. That she feels personally insulted is much more important than doing the right thing for the country.
This is called cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

Obama is all about eliminating the secret ballot for union organizing, letting the labor thugs know who votes against them and where they live. Do you think your ballot is safe? Dems have already taken to harassing those who donate money to Republicans (information which is widely published and easily available), but soon being registered as a Republican and voting that way will be published and give your neighbors carte blance to attack you, while the massive Obama "domestic army" looks on in disinterest.

re: #50 Ward Cleaver
Gun Control is a big issue to me. I've been worried about the direction our country has been going since the end of the Reagan Administration. Bush the Elder was a poor President, and Clinton was worse. The first two years of Clinton were hard-Left. We threw the Democrats out in '94, and Clinton tacked back towards the center, but a lot of damage was done. Even now, when the "Assault Weapons Ban" has sunseted, we still don't have the options available that we did in the late '80's.
I think that an Obama Administration would go to work immediately to try and disarm the Civilian populace, and nothing Obama has said gives me any reason to doubt that. I don't believe that our country can survive the gutting of the Second Amendment. What would be left in the aftermath of such a decision would not be the United States of America. And I don't believe that Gun Control would be the only issue that an Obama Administration would act on.
He wants to change America, all right. Change America into something that is fundamentally un-American. Disarming the populace is a milestone along that road. Once that line is crossed, it is damn hard to go back to the way things were. Especially if that line is crossed with brute force. There is nothing that Obama has said that makes me think that he wouldn't use force against American civilians to bring about the change he desires. Certainly, his embracing of Communist Terrorists doesn't give me a lot of faith in his principles.
I am deeply worried about the results of this election. It isn't a matter of voting for Dumb or Dumber. Obama is hostile to the basic precepts that make America a great nation.

I don't think the piling on occurs by one poster saying something snide, then another reading that and posting theirs, and on down the line. It's more of everybody reacts to the original post and BAM, up go a whole buncha comments that look like a pile on but in reality aren't. If you're gonna leave, just go. You don't have to make a big announcement to the thread.

Madisonsfriend is gone, and she's not coming back. Her words. And she invited the piling on, since she said she wouldn't be around to read the responses.
I disagree. Disagreeing isn't reason for "piling" and name-calling. But you have parents, I don't have to get into it further with you. You do what you believe is acceptable & I will do the same.

You have to take into consideration that Boortz lives in Atlanta. There are more blacks in the south so there are a greater number of them who would fall into the racial revenge category. Just the way it is.
Atlanta is the city "that's too busy to hate". That has been pretty much true as of late. Blacks do well in government and in the business community. Every now and then the old race baiters like John Lewis (D) will make a comment to stoke up old fires.
As to why Boortz said what he did, I don't really know.

re: #259 Iron Fist
All our liberties hinge on the 2nd Amend. When words (the 1st) fail to retain our liberty we have the 2nd.
"Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons."
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
—Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle
We stand or die as a Republic on the 2nd.

To me, this election is a slow motion train wreck. I don't want to watch, but I feel compelled to look. At times I'm thinking I'm witnessing something truly historic happening, and historic in the worst way possible.
And after seeing what's happening after the British and Australian populations were defanged (serious gun control), I have no desire to see such a nightmare happen here. With Obama, the constitutional 'scholar', all things are possible. And not in a good way.

He still had the stick in his hand, and you could see the injury on my face, and he admitted it. He was arrested. He actually said, “I don’t know why I did this. I too am confused as to where any of that post came from. Maybe he/she will explain it to us, maybe not. Either way, we don't have to attack.
Hey...thanks for the down ding, wrath. Considering I posted my response eight minutes after her post I fail to see the "piling on". Post something stupid...expect comments...positive or negative. If she was that upset about Palin and wanted to leave, then leave...don't expect sympathy by posting a farewell note.
