Democrat Sex Scandals: Do They Really Exist?

Politics | Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 11:54:38 am PDT

Democratic Congressman Tim Mahoney is at the center of one of the most repulsive scandals in recent memory, but he continues to run for reelection and refuses to resign.

A document obtained by ABC News reveals new allegations of threatening behavior and sexual harassment toward a female staffer, that go far beyond Mahoney’s public confession, including claims that he urged one of his mistresses to serve as a “tease” for big donors.

The former Congressional staff member, Patricia Allen, was paid $121,000 by Mahoney after she was fired and threatened to sue.

The settlement was reached after Allen hired a lawyer who sent the Congressman a “demand” letter, listing specific examples of Mahoney’s alleged “gross misconduct” and “stalking” including:

“a) Calling Allen late in the evenings and demanding ”phone sex;“

b) Demanding that Allen answer his calls or face termination;

c) Demanding that Allen attend fundraisers and ”tease c-ck“ to bring in more donations from the male members of the public;

d) Demanding that Allen engage in sexual conduct with another woman for his enjoyment.”

Democrats can do no harm.

No, they don't, because Democrats can do no wrong. Just ask them./

6 lawhawk  Fri, Oct 24, 2008 11:57:07am

All you have to do is look at the media coverage of the story. Outside ABC News, which broke the story, it's barely visible.

Compare with Foley's mess two years ago. It's no contest.

Bias? What bias?

7 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Fri, Oct 24, 2008 11:57:42am

Sex scandals are only for Republicans because then it's hypocrisy. When Democrats do it, they are just being true to their nature. It's not hard to figure out.

10 MandyManners  Fri, Oct 24, 2008 11:58:25am

20 newsjunkie_ky  Fri, Oct 24, 2008 12:00:29pm

Democrats NEVER admit a mistake of any kind. They never resign. They pretend nothing ever happened and deny, deny, deny.

Reminds me of that old movie, "Guide for the Married Man", get caught cheating, just deny, deny, deny even if the evidence is getting dressed in front of you.

Good riddance.

Mahoney's a disgrace of the highest order, but I disagree strongly with your first sentence. Foley was trying to sleep with teenage boys who came to Washington as part of a page program designed to teach them about our legislative process, not how to get molested by a powerful man.

Democrat? Sex scandal?

Those three words don't go together. In fact a lot of words when added with Democrat do not go together: Muslim, jihad, pro-military, taxes, Mexican, black, ACORN, William Ayers, media, bias, anti-American, Iran, Fannie, Freddie, socialist, socialism, communist, communism, borders, God, family, tax cuts, less govt, racism, sexism, fascism, experience, honesty, LULAC, la Raza, smart, patriotic, shame, etc.

Not enough time to list them all....but you get the point.

Why should any Democrat resign? Mayor Nagin panicked and failed to lead and people died. Re-elected. Mayor "The bi**ch set me up" Barry caught in hotel room with hooker and cocaine? Re-elected. Senator William Jefferson, corruption with $90,000 in his freezer? Re-elected. Even to the Presidency. President W.J, Clinton, engaging in sex with a subordinate and lying about it to the American people and his family? Forgiven because "he does so much good".

Adding to the list...Democratic Mayor John Street of Philadelphia was trailing in the polls a few years back when it was found out the FBI was investigating him. His popularity soared and he was re-elected.

His son also threw a Molotov cocktail into an opponent's field office once. Street defaulted on numerous loans and was into heavy nepotism.

I would add one of the results of this pattern is to so poison the political environment that any misstatement or mistake is called a lie by the opposition. Because if lying is not morally repugnant - why should the media or voters bother to waste time trying to discern of a statement was a lie or a mistake.

This is just sex, Lt. for life John F. Kerry, is a traitor, a liar, a fraud,
he lied under oath before congress, he voted with others to conspire to shoot U.S. Senators and Congressmen, still yet he sits in our U.S. Senate.

Problems, ya, "We the People" got problems. The great spirit is pushing some of the out of the boat for us, some of the pushing we will have to do ourselves.

Vote, Vote, Vote, get others to join the R's and fix them, get involved in bailing out the water leaking in, our boat is sinking, and we are just sitting here watching the water rising around us.

If your going to risk your career,(and im my case a couple of other things) you might as well make sure she is worth the risk. Otherwise, your arrogance is second only to your stupidity.

LW: I was fully expecting the grand wizard of the Klu Klux Klan to arrive from Maryland and endorse McCain. I was becoming frightened that we were returning to 1968, when they assassinated Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Those were bad times.

Bobby Kennedy was assissinated by PALESTINIAN Sirhan Sirhan, whose family is still heavily involved in terrorism.

snip

One of the most dramatic moments for me was when I was watching McCain on television, and I thought I saw in McCain’s eyes himself, when someone yelled something out, a recognition of, ‘Oh, God, what have I done?’ This is not McCain; he doesn’t cater to this. But for the first time in his political life, I think he realized that there are some strange people in the Republican tent. My father used to say, ‘Larry beware of the left because they will bankrupt you; beware of the right because they will kill you.’

Sorry, I need to answer that.

Being one of the "not good looking" women out there, I can tell you that to most people, we aren't "people of worth".

Not feeling sorry for myself, I look the way the Lord (and genetics) determined, but for one minute do not kid yourself that there is not extreme bias if you do not fit the "pretty" category. You get used to it. It never stops hurting (being judged by your appearance, not your intelligence), but like I said, you get used to it.

The Seminoles never surrendered to the United States government, hence, the Seminoles of Florida call themselves the "Unconquered People." The Florida Seminoles are the only American Indian tribe never to sign a formal peace treaty with the United States.

[Link: www.haaretz.com...]
A new poll released by the Gallup organization on Thursday shows Jewish voters favor Barack Obama over John McCain by more than 3 to 1, with 74% saying they will vote for Obama over 22% for McCain.

The poll, which has interviewed over 650 Jewish registered voters each month since June, shows American Jews growing increasingly comfortable with Obama since July, when the Illinois Senator tied up the Democratic Party nomination. The poll shows support for McCain among Jews stood at a high of 34% in June, before beginning its downward turn in July after Obama's nomination.

If Republicans continue to resist, said Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., Democrats are likely to rejoin the issue in January, when they expect party standard bearer Barack Obama to take the oath of office as president.

"There's no question the House will pass ... a much bigger (stimulus plan) than we passed before," Frank said of a postelection lame duck session. "If enough Republicans in the Senate decide to filibuster it ... then we'll just wait until January."

Don't get it yet? It's left over from the hippies. The Dems have taken on the "free love" ethic. The Republicans announce that these sex escapades are "wrong." Therefore, these things have no consequences for the Dems because their platform is "free love". The Republicans have terrible consequences because of their stated position that it is "wrong." So the same behavior is treated differently because of the one group's (often unsuccessful) attempt to raise society above this behavior that is entertaining for the participants, but really bad for families (especially kids' stablility).

Right, and McCain isn't fit to be President because he doesn't e-mail.

Wasn't Senator McCains campaign staffs one of the first to use the Internet as a campaign tool? He uses a Blackberry as a daily tool also.

He ~doesn't~use the keyboard much. To wit:

Forbes, May 2000: His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.

But his campaigns have been relying on the Internet for a long time.

Even during the hippie era, free love/lots o' sex was good when young folks/hippies did it, but gross and disgusting and wrong--to hippies--when older people or "squares" did it, or even showed an interest in it.

It was, in other words, the attitude of the teenager who is grossed out at the thought of Mom and Dad getting together, but eager to try his luck in the car's back seat.

The Democrats have elevated this adolescent viewpoint to party principle.

That's right. They still think they are young and being hip is way more important than having a country.

They're "liberal leaning" because most of them are European expatriates, or the children of European expatriates, and yearning to turn Israel into "another European country" is a big part of the national psyche.

At some level many really think that if they're liberal enough and adopt enough European attitudes, Europe will accept them.

S

It doesnt matter if you are beautiful, pretty, not so pretty, plain or even a bit homely. To be judged by looks and not intelligence is depressing. There are currently too many women who think people should look at her body instead of her mind.

Needless to say, I'd rather have my natural 50yr old body and mind than have the body and mind of someone who has had so much plastic surgery that God might not be able to recognize her. The ego of such a person must be tremendously hungry all of the time.

New Gallup poll shows 75% of U.S. Jews plan to vote Obama

Is this for real?

This is how you know that they are libs before Joos and the "Israel is the most important, or at least important" at all to Dem Joos is a joke.

From what I know, and I do know, MOST (by a huge majority) of ISraelis are worried (to say the least) about an Obama presidency.

The LA, NY, and Miami Joos, as much as they'd like to think otherwise, don't know more about Israelis, Israel or Israel's situation better than the Israelis themselves.

That sounds too good to be true, but the notion that the "youth vote" is overwhelmingly in Obama's camp is surely horsepuckey.
What they mean is the college vote.
Working youth will go for McCain, IMO.

Also, the younger generation is more conservative than the boomers on some issues.......most notably on abortion and the Soc Security scam.

I posted this a couple threads ago, but the youth vote -- 18-30 -- was broken down like this:

2004 44% Bush; 54% Kerry
2000 46.2% Bush; 47.6% Kerry

So, lets assume a worst case scenario and the youth vote splits 40 to 60 for Obama. At about 18 percent of the population, this isn't a huge number. And this also includes black youth, not a Republican cohort.

What people who haven't spent time with the Jewish community haven't figured out is that Jews tend to be passionate about whatever they set themselves to. And they work hard at it and they speak up when some might sit silently. Therefore, you find Jews as leaders in many arenas. Think neocons, social justice democrats, bankers, artists.... all across all the spectra. But to think there is a lump of a "Jewish Lobby" is absurd because these Jewish involvements frequently work to cross purposes in performance...

That is one fact I will never understand. How can they vote against their own survival? Do they think that the islamists will care if they are secular jews, or religious jews? No, their stated plan is to kill all of them.

It's not voting against our own survival, many Jews simply find the totality of views espoused by the Democrats preferable to those held by the GOP. On social issues, for example, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more liberal religious group than Jews. On foreign policy, aside from Israel, Jews also tend to be quite liberal. And even on Israel, the overwhelming majority of Democrats in Congress stand with the Jewish State, Clinton and Gore were fabulously popular among American Jews when it came to Israel, and for that matter, even Barack Obama has a pretty good record on the issue in Congress. Obama co-sponsored the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act, he demanded that our UN Ambassador, Zalmay Khalilzad, "ensure that the Security Council issue no statement and pass no resolution on this matter that does not fully condemn the rocket assault Hamas has been conducting on civilians in southern Israel for over two years," and even the (lamentably now defunct) New York Sun opined, “We're no shills for Mr. Obama, but these Republicans [who questioned the Senator’s support for Israel] haven't checked their facts."

There's plenty to criticize Senator Obama on, but little of it would resonate with American Jews. Hence the overwhelming support.

Yes. Blacks would be counted twice, so to speak.
So in that poll the youth would be split about 50-50.
I personally don't believe it will be so different this time.

My daughter, BTW, whose gets to vote for this first time this year!
(Like your daughter, she'll be voting for McCain.)

Thanks - The Blues Brothers was formative for my young mind. A teacher of mine was a stunt driver in the film and we watched it at band camp every year. Growing up in the shadow of Chi Town I could identify with the location, the music and the humor.

Says a lot about me that could easily show up in an FBI profile doesn't it!

LOL - I grew up in Montgomery Township. West of Chi Town. We'll keet the FBI out of it.

Market is certainly not helping McCain. Have no idea why anyone thinks Obama is better for the economy...

Opposite party as the one in the White House. If this was eight years ago, Florida would never have mattered, as then-Gov. Bush would have cleaned up in all the swing states. Such is the nature of our political system.

Guess What? Democratic Sentate Candidate Noriega Allows Fraudulent Donations Too

I did the whole fraudulent donation thing to McCain and Obama; the results were as noted on your page.

Then I thought, just for the hell of it, I'd try the same thing with our Texas Senate race matching Cornyn (R) and Noriega (D).

Cornyn's site wouldn't let me because the address and zip code didn't match. Guess what? With the same info, donating five to surrender-monger Rick Noriega was peachy. I'm not going to say it's a trend with only two examples, but you think this might be a little bigger than Obama? I'd test it myself on other races, but the thought of giving more than $10 to these assholes doesn't sit well with me.

There's plenty to criticize Senator Obama on, but little of it would resonate with American Jews. Hence the overwhelming support.

This is not true for Orthodox Jews. Just the fact that Israel's and America's enemies want to see BHO as president, that's reason enough to vote for McCain.

True, but the Orthodox make up only a small percentage of American Jews.

Israel's and America's enemies shouldn't get to decide any of our votes, IMO.

Kinda like what the Islamic fundamentalists did in Europe huh? We are forced to live by our standards while they are free to establish their own. And we wonder how Eurabia came into being. Wake up people, it's happening here in baby steps!

really, really creepy. I wonder how many people at that service even put two and two together, or if they just wandered away thinking that Barry O loves them....and thanks to Bush and Rove in SC in 2000, they may still have doubts about McCain.

Anyway, I think churches should lose their nonprofit status. They should pay property taxes at least.

New Gallup poll shows 75% of U.S. Jews plan to vote Obama

Is this for real?

Of course it is. Actually it shows a gain for Republicans. Usually Jews go about 86-88+% for the Dems.

I'm glad I'm married to a very secure man.

When one is secure in who they are they seek another with the same value system. When people embrace the whole "hope & change" thingy, it tells me that there are a lot of in-secure people out there. Witness the divorce rate. Witness the reduced penality for in-fidelity in marriages that produces increases in the divorce rate.

When people project a personna they are not, we get a tradgey, a divorce. For there to be a legitimate bond, one must present themselves as they are. I suspect that the population at large has yet to learn this lession and is about to elect someone who projects "something different". This will sell with many Americans since it re-inforces their belief system. It may not be the core of how they think but it supports how they "feel".

Saul Alinsky got it.

Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity. (Rule #4 for Radicals)

Exactly! And our problem is accurately described when we hear our side say they went to Washington to change it, but instead it changed them! I remember after 9-11 how President Bush said so many people sent in emails and cards telling him they were praying for him. This continued as we went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am beginning to think that we need to pray much harder for our Congress men and women, as if they were going to war!

To me and just to me, it seems as if we no longer treat stories like this with the level of shock or horror that we did back in the 1940's or even the 1980's for that matter. It is as if they would not be NORMAl politicians if they were not scamming for money or cheating on their spouses. When the public does not treat this as status quo behavior is the day some of this ceases.

What really makes me mad is that the GOP has seen the DNC get away with this type of thing or worse, and so they give up, give in and end up doing the same things. If they say we are hammered harder for our sins because we preach or run on the morality ticket; well then for heaven's sake live like you are the morality ticket! Do not give in to temptation.

And we need to start hammering home things like this and Pelosi saying SHE was going to run the most moral, bipartisan and clean House in the history of the House. We must start holding them accountable and stop this Chicken Little Ideology of being Conservatives and Republicans. UGH! We want to fight back, not run and hide!

Sure they do! Didn't the former sexual harasser in chief get caught turning interns into humidors (and flying DNA blast shields) qualify as a sex scandal? It sure did.

Belated response, nevertheless, hope you find it. Given your interest in creating/maintaining strong, honest relationship in marriage - are you familiar w/the work of Harville Hendrix? Admirable psychologist determined to bring 'therapist assisted divorce' to zero. He's good.

Oh yes, and the divorce stats are seriously skewed. Some young people (understandably) shake in their boots at the 50% divorce rate and sadly, avoid marriage. The "50% of people get divorced" stat is made by counting 2nd and 3rd divorces. In other words, divorce rates increase after divorce/remarriage. I'm divorced, remarried and firmly determined not to add to to the problems created by divorce any more.
