RetweetMore Than 5 Million Dollars for Obama's Greek Temple

Politics | Sat, Oct 25, 2008 at 7:38:45 pm PDT

The Obama campaign, in conjunction with the entire mainstream media, has been attacking Sarah Palin for letting the RNC spend $150,000 on her wardrobe, as she runs for Vice President of the United States.

But the Obama campaign spent 5.3 million dollars for that phony Greek temple in Denver’s Invesco Field. For one night.

Not a peep from the media.

In its FEC filing, the host committee said it incurred $53.67 million in operating expenses and spent $53.86 million.

Most of that money went to pay expenses of the Democratic National Convention Committee, the party organization that staged the DNC. Nine percent of the host committee’s money went to pay its own expenses, which included salaries, marketing and staging various events off the convention grounds.

Convention expenses paid by the committee included $14.1 million for construction costs, including the stage and lighting, at the Pepsi Center and $5.3 million at Invesco Field.

And they aren’t finished paying yet:

The group said it has $7.1 million on hand but still is receiving invoices from contractors. It plans to file an updated report with those expenditures later.

Actually, that is exactly how wealth "gets spread". That money doesn't just disappear into a black hole - all along the way people made money on that event. Ditto Palin's clothes. At every step in the production of that clothing, people earned money for their families.

Hard to tell from the article if the decision to go to Invesco field for the last night cost a total of $5.3 million or if that was just the line item for construction and lighting.

Notice how when he comes on stage to speak, they give him a nice runway walk? I'm serious. Totally media savvy to the point of a disturbing cynicism or, even worse, a hollowness. OK. I am depressed. If McCain had taken in 150 million in September and BHO was taking only public financing, the NY Times would be all over this like a pit bull on a toddler. When I hear news like this and Palin is being pilloried for 150K for clothes for her entire clan--including her son-in-law to be, I wanna weep.

When I hear BHO is 8 points up in the polls, it make me despair for the intelligence of the American electorate.

It's a lot to spend on a stage.

Yes, it's a lot to spend for a stage set.

But the democrat faithful donated that money, to Obama's campaign.

I think there was a serious lack in judgment in spending that kind of money for a the set, and in fact, in changing the venue to Invesco. But Obama's lack of judgment is one of the things I don't like about him.

But other than that - again - all along the way, people earned money by doing jobs to produce that event, paid for with money freely donated to Obama's campaign. And that is exactly how 'wealth' gets spread around.

Now, we just gotta convince Obama . . .

re: #45 calcajun

Speak words of comfort to us all. What crystal ball or other device of divination allowed you to see past November 4?

Oh, Calcajun ... here's a wee secret. In the past six elections, the Party ID has never been higher than a D +4 and was once an even R and D ... and Republicans won most of these elections. This means that a Dem ID doesn't necessarily translate into a Dem win.

So, here's what you do. You take a worst-case-scenario, say a Dem +3, and you go back to the polls that publish their "internals" that show what ID's they used. Not-so-shockingly enough, many pollsters use a Dem +14, +8 or +6 (for today). This can't be true. NEVER ONCE IN THE LAST 30 YEARS has there been a partisan ID differential of that magnitude.

So you adjust it. You rejigger the numbers so that it is a Dem +3 or a disasterous Dem +4. And guess what? You got it -- McCain is winning many of the states that the MSM says he's losing.

Its not over yet.

McCain has a darn tootin' good chance of winning.

Absolutely Obama is a narcissist, as we've discussed. Another thing that truly disturbed me the other day, as I was watching outtakes from one of his speeches, is his mafioso-style command of his audience. In any of the gangster-related films, particularly Italian gangs depicted in The Godfather or Goodfellas, notice how the top, made men always look around at their capos every time they make a point, with a look of disdain and condescension, kind of a "can you believe this friggin guy ya know what I'm talkin' about" look.
Obama totally does this. Watch for it.

Yes, but that was because Athens treated fraud in government contracts as a crime, whereas in Chicago it's a perk (see Hired Truck Scandal).

I do think we would do well to adopt some Athenian practices regarding citizenship and politics:
Enrolling false voters would be grounds for both loss of citizenship and permanent exile—and the Athenians didn't worry if no one else wanted you, leave or die.
Failing to serve on a jury if able was grounds for losing citizenship.
Code Pinkish disruptions of political meetings? They had Thracian archers hired to maintain order through archery. Nothing like an arrow through the lungs to end some shrill caterwauling protest.
/I do think that some of this is a bit extreme, but it might still be better than what we have.

William (#10),

How many fraudulent online credit card donations does it take to hit $5M?

$5M is peanuts.

The Obama Campaign's Massive Credit Card Scandal

It turns out that the Obama campaign's crack team of fundraisers decided to turn off all security validation for credit-card donations. Want to enter the name Pedro Martinez when the credit-card belongs to Arnold Fizbin? Need to use the ZIP code 99999 when the card owner's ZIP is 02154? No problem! The Obama campaign doesn't care!

In order for this to occur, the "Address Verification System has to be specifically disabled to allow this fraud."

Scott Johnson reports that tests of the Obama website confirm that all security validation is disabled.

I went back to the Obama site and made three additional donations using the names Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Bill Ayers, all with different addresses. All the transactions went through using the same credit card. I saved screenshots of the transactions... I tried the exact same thing at the McCain site and it didn't allow the transaction."

A... review of the Obama campaign finance filings found that the FEC had asked for the redesignation or refund of 53,828 donations, totaling just under $30 million.

But none involves the donors who never appear in the Obama campaign reports, which the [Center for Responsive Politics] estimates at nearly half the $426.8 million the Obama campaign has raised to date.

MBNA has been the No. 1 donor to Senator Biden's campaigns since 1993 and has made substantial contributions to Senator Snowe and Representative Michael N. Castle, Republican of Delaware. Combined, those three politicians have received more than $700,000 from MBNA and its employees since 1993, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group in Washington that tracks money in politics.

I wonder where their money "floats" from the time it goes to Senator Government and then vendors ...Probably one of Biden's buddies in Delaware and I am sure they had a few "notes" on how to get creative with the credit card donations ...

there is no hysteria, in fact i have had many good conversations w/ people that were reasonable and logical.
lots of tilted heads from those pondering the actual meaning of the nebulous 'hope' and 'change' mantra as i emphasize how we don't need a feel good guru, we NEED A LEADER who speaks plainly.
he will win in ny but people are not thrilled w/ the empty suit.
i still have hope that most common sense americans across this country will see what a hoax he is.

We can challenge. We can engage.

Too often we remain silent when our friends, our family and our coworkers praise statistic solutions and the politicians that propose them. We must now step up and no longer allow them do so without being asked to support their positions.

We do not need or want to be rude.

We just need to ask them to support their claims.

"How is that going to work?"

"Who is going to pay for that?"

"Why do you think the consequences are worth that?"

etc.

Be sincere.

Engage them in a conversation.

Do not let them make you the argument, they are the one that have made a proposal, even if it just an off hand remark. Make them defend it.

It is a thousand such little conversations that we could have had but did not that has brought us to this point where the impossible has become a real possibility.

We must challenge. We must engage.

The NY Times has been a leader in leftist-supporting news coverage and news boycotts.

There must be tens of millions of people REALLY pissed off by that. While many may not be subscribers, they do patronize the NY Times' ADVERTISERS. Those advertisers are sensitive to their customers, ESPECIALLY IN THESE ECONOMIC TIMES.

The Times has just built an expensive new building, sales are falling, and they have been financially downgraded to a junk rating.

Here is a stark vulnerability in the flagship of the leftist MSM that can be leveraged to start a needed return to media even handedness.

A massive campaign and web/paper petition to boycott the NY Times AND ITS ADVERTISERS should be very effective at pushing this Pravda wannabe either back to its senses, or off the cliff.

re: #150 Geepers

A... review of the Obama campaign finance filings found that the FEC had asked for the redesignation or refund of 53,828 donations, totaling just under $30 million.

But none involves the donors who never appear in the Obama campaign reports, which the [Center for Responsive Politics] estimates at nearly half the $426.8 million the Obama campaign has raised to date.

Which means that they likely spent the money while it was and is "on the books" but will be in the hole when it is all over.

So all the hype about Obama raising the largest amount is is nothing more than a campaign stunt. If the real figures are only half that. Additionally it means that all those small individual contributions supposedly from the "people" are fake.

So much for Obama's budgeting and fiscal responsibility. Can't manage a campaign budget (legally) which he touted as his experience, how can he run a country with billions of dollars.
