OK, over in the Wall Street Urinal's Oppinion section, in the article titled, "The Europeanization of America"

A nice, well meaning person, with whom I have no umbrage, but with whose ideas one must absolutely insist on correcting -- for the sanity of all logic-minded mankind, writes that"

"Barack Obama is likely to become the next president of the United States. Six weeks ago John McCain was leading Mr. Obama. But [ed: emphasis mine] according to RealClearPolitics, as of yesterday Mr. Obama led in the national polls ..."

OK, STOP. Just stop with the G*d Damned references to the "Real Clear Politics" aka RCP polls -- especially the "RCP National Average" numbers.

The RCP average is mathematically meaningless. It is a morass of meaningless data that people everywhere appear to be accepting as meaningful -- to the determent of all.

For any given individual "poll" result mentioned by RCP, one can say that one can take a measure of the amount of bias in the poll; e.g., establish a degree to which sample selection bias and push-polling play a role; then one can make rational decisions based upon focusing on that poll.

However, when one takes a group of poll results, without their similar associated measurements of individual poll-bias, and just throws the numbers together in an average, then since the information about the bias is absent -- information without which the poll results have no meaning -- THE AVERAGE HAS NO MEANING.

Anyone who tries to sell you on the validity of meta-poll results, like (but not necessarily limited to) results like the RCP National Average, are intellectual dog poop mongers.

Now, some of those people are well-meaning intellectual dog poop mongers, and you and I can certainly forgive them -- but a correction must occur.

So, let's please take our heritage of logic and intellectual development a little more seriously, seriously.

His domain was stolen out from under him, in an apparent attempt to shake him down for more money to reregister the domain. This despite telling them within ample time that he was going to do so.

Last I heard, his lawyer readership was telling him to sue. He's at patterico.net now.

If you have the NoScripts plugin you will need to allow the site to run javascript.

It shouldn't require any plug-ins. My best guess is that you have Javascript turned off. Go into the preferences/properties, and try turning on Javascript.

BTW you mentioned archiving youtube videos on the previous thread. There are several firefox plugins that make it easy to download videos. I use DownloadHelper

Firefox can be one buggy browser. I'm tempted to just go back to FF 1.5.

I want to point your attention to an ugly fact: Obama's official site now has a section explicitly targeting kids age 12 and under, urging them to persuade their parents and grandparents to vote for him. The same age group is protected by regulations even when it comes to marketing of products like candies and cereal. The site also offers a "kit" for people who want to orgnanize Obama events for kids. Here're a few quotes to give you feel of it:

For the first time in campaign history, children ages 12 and under, have a place to go and actually vote—through their voice. What a great way to be introduced to politics and to express your support for Senator Obama.

Implement T-Shirt Thursday. Get friends to wear an official Obama for America T-Shirt to school. Take an adult (voting age) to the polls on Election Day and encourage them to vote for you, by voting for Senator Obama.

I've written a post that walks through the site; feel free to use it the way you see fit. It'd be great if you could highlight this issue on LGF. I think some parents can still change their opinion of Obama once they hear this.

AFAIK< all ballots are supposed to be held until the close of the polls on election day. then, and only then, are they supposed to be counted.

I'll take humidity over snow any day....in fact, if it snows in Houston (which it has, actually) people forget how to drive. Of course, they do the same when we get a heavy rain shower. Nut still, it beats snow.

It would be nice to see fall trees though....I love the firey colors of fall.

Wow. If anyone still believes that The One is even remotely likely to "morph" into a free-market capitalist (like Christopher Buckley does), or even a centrist (like Peggy Noonan and Colin Powell do), once he's in the center seat, this should tell them that they're chasing a rainbow.

Senator Obama is a classic Fabian Socialist economically, of the type who nearly brought Great Britain to financial ruin in the years prior to World War Two. (Google "James Ramsay MacDonald".) In terms of social policy, he's basically a rule-by-fiat' radical, who would fit in comfortably with the likes of Hugo Chavez (and like Chavez, I'm sure his "solution" whenever reality conflicts with his theories would be to nationalize something). And in terms of foreign policy- I can't help but think that a man who has spent his entire adult life doing business with people, at home and abroad, who believe that killing Americans is a legitimate form of political discourse (Ayers, Khalidi, etc.), is at best afflicted with questionable judgment. And questionable judgment does not a President make.

The great danger presented by an Obama presidency would be very much like that Labour presented to the UK. Namely, that in spite of every wrong call he makes, which makes things worse, if we just let him do one more little thing all problems will disappear forever.

This isn't "socialism by incrementalism". It could all too easily be "self-destruction by the death of a thousand cuts".

Because the one thing I see no evidence of in Senator Obama is an acceptance of his own fallibility. As with so many "progressives", he simply believes himself to be incapable of error.

Which means that when things go wrong on his watch, he'll look for someone else to blame it on.

Like the rest of us.

Ahh - well, we get the slatey skies here, and the cold and rain and gales, but not much snow.
So every time there are about two inches of snow, everything grinds to a halt.

I could not believe that she brought that up, being officially tied to the campaign. Neil called her out on it and said "But 84% of Americans say they are against it." She said that it was all in how the poll question was phrased, and she held to her belief. I was speechless.

Based on Bernard Goldberg's books (Bias and Arrogance), I'm inclined to suspect that;

1. The vast majority of "journalists", who think socialism is the be-all and end-all (except for those holding out for full-on Communism), are all in favor of such policies. (As long as their own salaries and perks are not affected, that is.) And

2. Since they know that the majority of Americans do not share their infatuation with "rule by the enlightened", they are determined that the rest of us not find out what The One wants to do to us until it's too late.

They know about it. They just wish we didn't.

I am so freakin' p.o.'d right now - getting ready for work, have Fox & Friends on. They lead off the hour with the
report on Obamas video - legislating re distribution of wealth interview, even mention that its on youtube. Then they get into the Biden/Florida local TV interview where he's asked is the O a Marxist etc., Next they interview Harold Wolfson who defends Biden/DNC boycott of the station. Wolfson defends this saying Biden/DNC are right in the boycotting because the question as to whether O is a Marxist is a ridiculous question, not to be taken seriously. As I'm saying to myself out loud fully expecting to hear any second from one of the Fox talking heads "listen to the (hidden/missing) NPR/Chicago '01 interview with O - its in his own words !
They NEVER said this back to Wolfson and he walked away from the interview looking like he just blew that TV station/reporter right out of the water. I'm not a great fan of this show - it can get on my nerves but hey, who else can you listen to at this hour ? If ANYONE saw this also and feels same - if you have the time (I don't - already running late) how about letting them know about this unreal lapse of professionalism ? I felt like I was listening to one of the MSM stations. Grrrrrrrr !

The SP (Socialist Party) in the city council of Groningen has decided that families who have been on welfare for 5 years or more will get a flat screen TV if their old TV breaks down. Never mind that secondhand color TV's can be had for around 50 Euro's, welfare recipients will get a new flat screen for 450 Euro's. Never mind flat screens are available from 229 Euro's upward, according to our Socialists "they have a right to a good quality TV as it is not easy being on welfare for 5 years". They will be able to get a new flat screen every 8 years. As it turns out this is almost a national policy, apparently only the city of The Hague gives welfare recipients a loan for a TV, which they then have to pay back.

The other day there was also a clip on YouTube of another one of those poor welfare recipients, who went to pick up her weekly load of free food from the "food bank" in her car. The car was also partially funded by Social Services, as the poor soul was suffering from a street phobia. Well, she did not look in the least phobic to me as she happily ventured outside in her little car. I thought people with street phobia's did not even dare to step over their doorstep? Too phobic to work, not phobic enough to be stuck at home permanently, maybe?

Was listening to a local radio talk show on my way home from work last evening. He is a black man, and was asking for calls from listeners to respond if they thought the "Bradley effect" was gonna impact the election. Of course, all that were behind Obama thought people didn't want to share they were prejudiced, so yes. The others said why can't we be against him for his policies? Interestingly, the host said he had to share that even though he is black, he had already voted early, and could not vote for Obama for personal reasons. I was shocked! He also commented (he has mostly black callers/listeners) he hoped the black community wasn't going to be disappointed if/when Obama wins.....that they will not see all these "changes" that are being promised to them.

It was enlightening.

My father was involved in a business project in Poland. At that time, Poland was fresh out of communism (about 8 yrs ago). The job my father had was to teach the managers, workers and others involved with this factory how to operate in a capitalist market. The younger workers ate it up. They understood the concept of self reliance and responsibility. The older workers, which were raised under communism gave my father the most trouble. When something would go wrong, no one wanted to take responsibility. Problems and challenges were never dealt with because under communism no one is held accountable and personal responsibility is non-existent. No one OWNS anything. My father would call people out on their mistakes and they thought he was "mean, aggressive and angry".
That is the problem with socialism and communism. There is no excellence. No one strives to be better than the next guy. There is no accountability. Pretty soon, everyone is the same, walking through life without purpose, standing in line for bread and toilet paper.

America is about excellence. It was founded with personal responsibility at the core of the Constitution. If our society falls into the socialist model, America as we know it will cease to exist.

Bush won in 2004. McCain is defending those states. If McCain does, he wins.

Obama has to work on increasing Kerry's tally from 2004 or else he ends up the same as Kerry. On the sidelines and wondering where it all went wrong.

I need a new motherboard (no big deal) but PROBABLY also need a new Hard Drive - and I don't have the Operating Disks for this Gateway Windows XP Home Media Edition. Ordered 'em from Gateway and they are sending them, (but in spite of the specificity with which I placed the order, they call it a Restore CD, whatever the hell that is) but it will take 2-3 weeks.
Geek Squad dude didn't think I'd hurt HD by using the computer but it takes FOREVER for the computer to shut down and I can't do a FULL NORTON SCAN which is why tech thought it could be the HD.
Please don't ask about why I don't have my own OS disks, cause it's a long story (and embarrassing to me) and I don't have any blank CD's to back up what I have on this HD - my pills and illness have made me virtually immobile - at least for now - so I can't go out and get some and besides which I can't even burn CD's cause I don't know how and because one of the reasons my motherboard has to be replaced is that at least one UBS port is burned out and the CD player is acting hincky.
Just CRAP.
I just hope and pray this sucker holds together long enough for me to be with all y'all on the final run up to and the celebration threads the day after the election. As I said, Just CRAP!

Indeed. Frank thinks that cutting defense spending 25% is going to have a positive effect on the mission in Afghanistan or the war on terror. It is revealing as to their entire outlook for the defense posture of the nation. They like to say that the Afghan campaign is the war they can support, but posturing and saying that they want to cut spending 25% is a mighty interesting way of showing it given how defense spending cuts along those lines will adversely effect the capabilities of the US military to operate around the world, not just in Iraq.

Geek Squad is going to replace motherboard, CD drive (if need be) hard drive and - if I could only get them in time, the OS CD's and do a data transfer for me for $99.00 (I - for once - got smart and got a 3 year extended warranty when I bought his sucker in February of 2007) and that's really just for the data transfer and to make sure everything is working smoothly. So I'll basically have a NEW COMPUTER by the time all is said and done for $99.00 plus a lot of agita!

Ordered 'em from Gateway and they are sending them, (but in spite of the specificity with which I placed the order, they call it a Restore CD, whatever the hell that is) but it will take 2-3 weeks.
Geek Squad dude didn't think I'd hurt HD by using the computer but it takes FOREVER for the computer to shut down and I can't do a FULL NORTON SCAN which is why tech thought it could be the HD.

WOW! If you are into a new MB and Drive, it may behoove you to consider a new PC, it probably will be cheaper. Check out www.tigerdirect.com a lot of times you can get a very nice barebones system for under $200.
