Contact the LA Times and Demand the Rashid Khalidi Video

Politics | Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 9:24:57 am PDT

We’re calling on LGF readers to contact the Los Angeles Times and their advertisers to demand that the Times release the videotape they are concealing, showing Barack Obama at a party with radical Palestinian activists, Bill Ayers, and Bernardine Dohrn, being praised by former PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi.

They’re stonewalling, and giving people who contact them the runaround.

Please note: the existence of the tape is not in doubt; Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times explicitly wrote that the Times had a copy of the tape, in an article about Obama’s ties to Rashid Khalidi: Allies of Palestinians see a friend in Barack Obama.

At Khalidi’s going-away party in 2003, the scholar lavished praise on Obama, telling the mostly Palestinian American crowd that the state senator deserved their help in winning a U.S. Senate seat. “You will not have a better senator under any circumstances,” Khalidi said.

The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times.

The Los Angeles Times is hiding a potentially explosive video of a presidential candidate, during the final days of an election.

This is brazen, unethical media malfeasance.

Don’t let them get away with it.

Contact the Los Angeles Times.

Charles, is LGF getting a ton of traffic? Maybe the LA Times thing has gotten around!

9 Ward Cleaver  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:28:53am

My hunch is that Obama talks about the "Israel lobby" and "Zionist oppression" in the video.

So, wait a moment. The LAT is sitting on explosive evidence that might provide shocking details of what Obama said. Releasing said information right before the election is going to have a disastrous effect on the Obama campaign?

What exactly is going to convince the LAT to release that information? I don't see it. They want Obama to win, are sitting on a video, the existence of which is not in doubt, and you honestly think that a letter writing campaign will alter their position?

How about someone tracking down the source of the video and seeing whether they made additional copies. I can't believe that the LAT has the only copy.

If you wanted to know the reason for why the media is dying, that's it.

They want to play gatekeepers and want to control access to the information, instead of letting people make up their own minds about the candidates, their associations, and values.

57 Nevergiveup  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:45:56am

The only hope of this tape, if it still exists, is for someone influential in Israel contacting someone they know at the LA Times. I hope it has occured to someone over there that Obama is gonna sell Israel down the old Jordan River.

58 rudi  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:46:13am

Even if the LA Times refuses to release the tape, this story may have a major impact on the election. Widespread reporting about the Times' refusal to release the tape could damage Obama as much or more than actually releasing the tape insofar as voters becomes suspicious of what is being hidden by Obama and his defender the Times.

Whether or not this blatant act of bias on the part of the Times is reported remains a big "if."

59 nigella  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:46:22am

Running real slow for me also. Why would the LAT hold this tape?If they were so concerned about protecting Obama why wouldn't they destroy it. Smells fishy to me. Probably hoping to get the response they are getting and will release a tape that has been "modified."They can then say it was the crazy rightwingers putting out false stories about Obama.Just my take. Also what happened to the girl who said she had been attacked by an Obama supporter who carved a B on her face? I know she admitted to lying so why isn't the media running with this?

I contacted them yesterday morning, and received a form letter reply from their "readers' rep". According to it, they read all their mail, and forward to the responsible person. When I wrote this note, I sent info copies to everyone I knew, especially Jewish friends, since the party in question was a "Jew-bash". Fortunately, it's already been forwarded to several people, including ones with some clout.
This shocking behavior by the LA Times just re-enforces what Michael Malone wrote on Friday, and which was finally posted at abcnews.go.com today.

75 rudi  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:51:35am

OT (but California related)

I came across a blurb on the internet this morning, I think from Redstate, reporting that Democrats led Republicans in California early voting by only 1,000 votes, something like 220,000 to 219,000. While the writer clearly stated CA would go for Obama, he/she expressed astonishment at these numbers.

Anyone have any further information on this subject?

76 SagamoreGal  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 9:51:50am

-I agree with one of the posters above about liberal Jews still voting for Obama, video or no video. They could watch a video of Obama training the Sept 11 terrorists with a burning Israeli flag in the background, yet they would still vote for Obama.

Nevertheless, it would create a bit of panic and unease in the Obama campaign mgrs during the stretch run so it's still worth it to track it down:

-Where/when did this party take place? Chicago? Get the names of every TV affiliate in Chicago. Maybe they covered it on their local newscast the night of the party.
-An intrepid Lizard in either L.A. or NYC could go to the Museum of Television and Radio to check the archives and look it up by date/each affilate name.
-Was MEMRI in existence then? If so, maybe by some freak chance they have a copy that was sent to them by an attendee or some Arab news outlet that would have covered such a party...

re: #59 nigella

Also what happened to the girl who said she had been attacked by an Obama supporter who carved a B on her face? I know she admitted to lying so why isn't the media running with this?

Two reasons, in my opinion. For one, it's obvious that she has serious mental problems and isn't a representative example of a McCain supporter. She could just have easily been an Obama supporter. And no one wants to be seen as piling on a mentally ill person. Two, going on and on about her would just reiterate how the MSM is neglecting to report on the REAL attacks on McCain/Palin supporters- at rallies, at their homes, on their cars and property, etc. And they don't want to report on those incidents. That's just what I was thinking, anyway.

Has Fry's (Fry's Electronics, "Your Best Buys Are Always at Fry's. Guaranteed") been added to the list of advertisers to contact?

They're a big Widescreen TV/stereoand PC retailer in certain regional markets, and generally run a few 2- or 4-page ad on Saturdays.

BestBuy is one of their major competitors.

They represent 20-25% of the San Jose Mercury's ad revenue, and probably similar amounts for other newspapers.

My guess is that a call from Fry's gets a very perky and eager-to-please answerby the top execs at the paper.

Isn't the policy to post a public web site address that would contain the email (or a phone number).

Charles point is a very good one. We don't want LGF to be a place where harassment can occur out of (with a direct number or email posted).

I posted a radio station number in August and was politely reminded not to do that.

What will convince them to release the info? A boycott of their advertisers. If their advertisers take their money elsewhere, they can't pay their bills.

IMHO, it's a waste of time to contact the LAT directly. The advertisers, now they are another story. Talk of a boycott might make them queasy in this economy. The advertisers are the ones that hold the cards here.

The American Family Association seems to be pretty good at boycotts. I'm not sure if this is their kind of thing though.

The LA Fishwrap doesn't give a crap what we think. They are our educated betters and know what's best for us stupid, clingy, gun-totin', Bible readin' xenophobes.

Has anyone else contacted FOX?

I will. Just sent an e-mail to Rush. Thanks Mandy.

I sent three (each to different departments) yesterday. Got an auto reponse thank you and don't have time to respond to all emails.

Obama Campaign Cuts All Ties With WFTV

..."I don't know who's writing your questions," Biden shot back.

Biden so disliked West's line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate's wife.

"This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election," wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

McGinnis said the Biden cancellation was "a result of her husband's experience yesterday during the satellite interview with Barbara West."...

...."Mr. Biden didn't like the questions," Jordan said. "We choose not to ask softball questions."

Great interview and it's about damn time somebody in the media started doing this. They should've been doing this MONTHS ago. Bravo Barbara West and Bob Jordan. We need to show our support of their efforts.

91 Maine's Michael  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:00:06am

I fear that for most Obama supporters, this is a non issue. If they are OK with voter fraud, they are certainly gogin to be OK with selling Israel out.

They just don't care.

Perhaps an undecided or two may care.

92 zombie  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:00:36am

How many Los Angeles lizardoids are there? Must be a hundred at least, if not many more.

How about somebody scheduling a protest in front of the Los Angeles Times office?

No one needs to reveal their names or who they are. Just make a public announcement for it, and whoever wants to can show up.

Publicize the protest on other blogs as well.

I propose Tuesday at noon. Their address is in the first link above.

If I was down there, I'd do this more officially.

Who's up for "Making the official announcement"?

She was charged with filing a false statement to the police, wasn't she?

I don't know, was she? I think she should be charged. But after it came out that she'd already been tossed out of the Ron Paul campaign for doing crazy stuff, I was thinking that the press didn't want to make a huge deal of it, because she's obviously got mental issues..? Ah well. I'm probably wrong. LOL

Also, they are running an interview today with John McCain, same reporter, Barbara West.

Well, I sent them a semi polite demand to release the video. I asked them if they existed to dispense propaganda or provide enough information to the American voter so that they can make an informed decision. Not holding my breath, because I think I already know the answer.

Rudi - don't know about California but we have early voting here in North Carolina too - have had 25% of registered voters already vote (which will hopefully make the lines MUCH shorter on Election Day when Mom and I will vote - we are both somewhat physically handicapped and can't stand for long periods of time - BUT they haven't counted the votes yet. And even if they have counted 'em out in California, it's illegal under Federal Election Law, iirc, to release the actual early vote tallies.
What they are doing is "Exit Polling" and we all know just how accurate that is! LOL!

I took the guidelines to mean physical location addresses.

105 nigella  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:08:47am

Rudi, about California, those must be absentee ballots right?I'm a Californian and those who normally vote absentee are heavily Republican. That has been the case in the past. If that many Dems voted absentee that is probably not a positive sign. Don't worry though California will never vote for McCain anyway.

Yes, let's write the LA Times .. but let's also write Rush .. and let's tell Rush about the lack of response from the LA Times. I'm going to Rush now.

phoning is too time consumptive AND is easily traced back to your home phone number!
Pick the ADVERTISEMENT depts and the EXECUTIVE depts to send your emails to. Don't forget to send the link of the OBAMA story from April, in the LA Times with your email letter.

The Bill Ayers/Obama Idea Of Education

In 1997, Ayers and his mentor Maxine Greene persuaded Teachers College Press to launch a series of books on social justice teaching, with Ayers as editor and Greene serving on the editorial board (along with Rashid Khalidi, loyal supporter of the Palestinian cause and the Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University). Twelve volumes have appeared so far, including one titled Teaching Science for Social Justice.

Obama, as chaiman of (Ayers') Chicago Annenberg Challenge, was dispersing funds for projects like this, and awarding grants to individual teachers/administrators. He was directly carrying out Ayers'/Dohrn's agenda --politicizing teachers and students at all levels, for their never-foresaken revolutionary cause of overthrowing capitalism.

110 cblesz  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:12:05am

Apparently we are not allowed to post the author's email address. I was unaware of that. Although if you go to the story it is right there at the bottom of the article...

re: #30 MandyManners

From how the LAT has relayed the existence of the tape, I'd say that they got it from an outside source, not an employee; "The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times."

If the LAT taped the event, I'd believe that they would have said it as such.

Mr Wallsten-

For the benefit of an 'informed electorate', please release the videotape of the Rashid Khalidi dinner.

It is malpractice for the LA Times not to make this available. I trust the paper will do the right thing.

Proper "form" is to provide the link, and tell everyone where to find the address. Yes, it's the-long-way-around-the-barn, but Charles' point about not wanting to be a possible source of addresses which facilitate harrassment is very well taken.

115 RedDirtGuy  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:27:36am

I'm not trying to disobey your rule on posting addresses or other information, but I would like to know the name of the national desk editor at the LA Times. From there, I can figure out his/her email address at the LAT.

118 hermeneutics  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:02:31am

122 ga_republican  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:15:24am

The closest comparison I can think of is the Trent Lott/Strom Thurmond birthday celebration. Lott was forced to resign from a leadership position for saying something nice to an old man on his birthday. Obama says nice things about an Israel basher and the story doesn't even see the light of day. And based on the guest list, is it possible that Obama was sitting with some folks that he doesn't want anyone to know he was close to?

123 Son of the Black Dog  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:20:13am

The Organization of News Ombudsmen has a page of links to other news organizations here.

Would it help to write to any of those, as well?

129 buckytheinfidel  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 3:45:22pm

People need to organize and start picketing at the LAT AND its advertisers. If I lived in HellA, I'd take time off from work to go do it.

Phone calls and e-mails they can ignore until this blows over. Actual live people in front of their building demanding a free and open press, that would be a bit tougher to deal with. And it would get more media attention. Picketing the LAT's advertisers would get the message across even more pointedly.

130 RirghtSideOfTheFence  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 4:14:40pm

Atlas Shrugs is also asking people to write to the LA Times. I just did. I'm afraid I wasn't very polite. I told them that withholding this important news is not journalism, but communism. Hope I didn't go over the line. They probably won't want to interview me.

131 wanderer  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 4:26:33pm

The best response to the Los Angeles Slimes suppression of a video that reveals the real Obama is for LA Lizards to cancel their subscriptions to the Slimes, never buy a copy, or ever visit their website.
I personally have not purchased a copy of the LA Slimes since they did their Thursday before election day drive-by on Schwarznegger during the Davis recall election five years ago. The Slimes circulaltion is in freefall, its pages keep shrinking, and its advertising revenue has got to be heading south at an alarming speed.
I live in Southern California and am up for an expose demonstration in front of The Siimes offices. The LA rag is near moribund but let us shorten its period of suffering.
