Obama Campaign Urges Kids to Have 'The Talk'

Politics | Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 10:53:14 am PDT

The Obama campaign’s attempted use of children to influence their parents is absolutely open and blatant. Why doesn’t this outrage people? This is political cynicism of an amazing degree.

Barack Obama | Change We Need | The Talk.

Do’s & Don’ts

Do share your personal reasons for voting for Barack Obama;

Do have confidence — your opinion matters to people who care about you;

Do read up on Barack’s positions on the issues you know matter to them;

Do find a good time when both you and they will be open to a conversation;

Do talk to them in person if you live nearby, or on the phone if you don’t;

Do ask your friends to talk to their parents and grandparents as well;

Don’t worry about knowing everything about policy positions before you have this conversation;

Don’t feel defensive. Stay calm, cool and collected;

Don’t wait until the last minute — it might take a few conversations for you to convince them, so start as early as possible;

Don’t catch them at a bad time — make sure you have their attention and enough time to have a conversation.

Unbelievable. And it gets worse.

Ideas to Get the Conversation Started

Approaching your parents about who they are voting for can be intimidating if you’ve never talked about politics with them before. But this campaign has been built by supporters sharing their stories about what inspires them and why they want to see change in this country. Here are some ideas for ways you can talk to your parents about why you support Barack:

Call or ask in person if they saw the debate and what they thought about it. Tell them why you are voting for Obama and why it’s important to you.

Print out for them information on some issues you know are important.

Share Barack’s speech from the Democratic National Convention or Meet Barack, a video about who Barack Obama is, where he comes from, and what his values are.

Email them and tell them why it’s important to you that they vote for Obama.

Think about their perspective. If they are Republican, or are concerned about Barack’s policies, think about where they are coming from and what makes them think the way that they do.

And they’ve produced a video to go with this outrageous effort:

Youtube Video

Notice: near the end of the video, one of these kids actually threatens his grandparents that he won’t help them with text messaging or Tivo unless they vote for Obama.

Obviously they're racists, in need of reeducation.

16 shibumi  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 10:59:41am

I don't think this is a bad idea. Why, you might ask?

One would hope that many parents out there are more learned and experienced than their children. Consequently, when their little O-bots come and explain to them all the reasons to vote for their Messiah, the parents should be able to reasonably shoot gaping holes through each and every arguments.

Result? More votes for McCain!

Yes, kiddies, don't worry your pretty little skulls full of mush about the actual details of what the Obamessiah wants to do for, I mean, TO your country.

Whatever happened to "letting kids be kids"?

My dad died when he was 76 and I NEVER (seriously, never) knew who he voted for. He believed that his vote was a private matter.

Thanks for letting me form my own opinion, Daddy.

How ironic that Obama, who described all sorts of youthful indiscretions in his autobiography, is now asking for the kids to "get out the vote".

27 smokefire  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:02:59am

..............God, this reminds me of my EARLY, EARLY catholic teaching.

Remember the stories the nuns told about the commies, scaring us that everyone would inform on each other, if you were not a communist. Children would tell on the parents, etc. Seems to me that this occurred during the Nazi regime too.

Hmmm, makes one wonder, doesn't it

28 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:03:12am

Please send my child to me with an open mind to teach me the ways of Obama. Please. Opening up this dialogue would be very helpful. Very helpful.

Didn't read it real carefully, did it tell the children to completely ignore any facts that parents may throw back at them?

29 Walter L. Newton  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:03:27am

OT (sort of) I posted this in the last thread, just as Charles added this new thread. So, if you dodn't see this...

I sent an email to Mr. Rosenberg titled "Interesting shirt color?" And here is the body of the email.

Mr. Rosenberg

I read your email response to "tiffany," about her on going journalistic investigations in reference to voter registration, as I copy below...

From: Rosenberg, Thomas
Date: Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 2:32 PM
Subject: At least in today’s blog you spelled my last name right

In other words, I am going to read what you write and watch what you say. Hopefully you will be fair and impartial as you told me you would be.

Interesting. Back in the 30's, people with brown shirts went around making pre-emptive strikes like this. Have you ever heard of these folks?

I wonder what that says about your client, Mr. Obama?

Scary,

I am not suggesting anyone else do this, but I am finished with these facists.

30 Tupac23X  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:03:43am

Thank G*d I don't have to have the correct version of "the talk" with my kids....they already know. Unfortunately, I don't feel so strongly about the others. My 8th grader said they did a mock election and 110 of 150 voted for the big zero. My oldest, a Junior in HS was told by a black "friend" that he was basically a racist for wanting McCain to win and asked my Son why "we can't let them have their president?"

That framed the crux of this problem for me nicely, at least as far as much of the African-American community is concerned. This is "their" president, damn qualifications or policy. I'll say they're right about that; if he wins, they can have their president because he won't be mine. Just like I've been hearing in my damn ears for the last 8 years.

Reminds me of a quote I once heard. Something about chickens and roosting, etc.....

34 JohnAdams  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:04:48am

Interesting that somebody really put a lot of time into this. But then the Left has grown to its current state precisely through the indoctrination of children method.

35 musicman  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:04:51am

Repost - what I sent to the BHO site:

My "suggestion for the campaign":

I will grant you, this is a "different" campaign. Just when I think Obama/Biden have reached absolute bottom, I am stunned to learn there are depths yet undiscovered. You are targeting children now? Who does this? A lot of names come to mind. As but one example, I offer this:
[Link: studenteducationforum.ipbhost.com...]
The glaring similarities between what is listed at that link and Obama's current campaign are staggering. Hope and change? You betcha. I suggest this campaign start to be more honest about what that actually means.

I'm astounded. This is nothing short of indoctrinating youth and children by by-passing parental authority and guidance. It's anti-family, and anti-scriptural.

It is, however, reminiscent of Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge tactics.

We cannot, must not elect this man as our president.

51 Ringo the Gringo  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:07:15am

It is a typical tactic of the Left to step between between parents and their children. It's the primary reason why the Left always campaigns so vigorously against parental notification for abortions performed on girls under 18.

Now go study your reading, writing, and arithmetic and forget about the liberal bullshit they try to indoctrinate you with.

Thank you.

54 WrathofG-d  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:07:29am

Charles asked: "Why doesn’t this outrage people? This is political cynicism of an amazing degree."

To the Democrat, trained in the neo-Com ("neo-Communist") mold, children being involved in Politics is the highest goal, and a sign of a bright future. They understand, as is taught by their dogma, that to control the children today, is to ensure a future in their imagine tomorrow.

There is a long history of this type of behavior from the Neo-Coms. (The Big Schlep is a recent example)

63 Logician  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:08:04am

This effort will backfire on Obama and the Democrats.

Obama's political philosophy is crude leftism and his policies nonsense. A certain proportion of the young people who follow the advice of that video are going to end up realizing this, which will bode well for future elections. Very few, if any, parents are going to be persuaded that nonsense is sense, so there will be no effect on the current election, except perhaps to make a few parents more eager to vote for McCain.

Friendly discussions between children and parents about politics are an unequivocally good thing, regardless of who advocates it.

Send whatever you want. The fact remains that the only reason everyone is in an uproar is because you do not want a black man to be in-charge of this country. You forget the white america has the money but black america and other minorities built this country. Why doesn’t everybody tell the truth, you don’t want him because of race. Stop making excuses not to elect him for other reasons. If you would vote in a known alcoholic why can’t you vote in a black man.

Ok, now I'm convinced.

We have been lucky with ours. We have 2 daughters, 22/married, 2 yo daughter, and youngest is 18yo. this is her first election. We never rubbed the kids noses in politics, but we discussed it in front of them, and neither ever seemed overly interested. At the beginning of this nightmare run, my oldest was apathetic, but thought Hillary was going to win it all, in her passing opinoin. We had a talk, and she did what I asked her to do, listened, read, and asked, and is now voting for McCain, calling me all the time to tell me of her many moonbat encounters. Thank the lord she now recognizes them as such. Our youngest also started calling me when the mortgage crisis hit maximum frenzy to ask me to explain it to her. She likes the analogies I use, and then went on to listen, read, ask questions, and she concluded we were right, and is voting for McCain. All in all, it was pretty painless, and I guess my kids have some sense!

The flashback was to the time that he "stole" the chocolate ration from his sister, ran away and when he returned, both his sister and mother was missing. All there was in the apartment were rats, chewing on the furniture and food scraps.

We don't know what happened to his mother for sure, but Winston blames his mothers and sisters disappearance to his stealing.

And that's where he developed his fear of rats (Room 101)

I remember being a kid, with my brothers and sisters, all of us under 10, sitting cross-legged on the floor of my grandparent's living room glued to the tv. My grandfather, a figure we feared beyond all reason, sat quietly reading the paper. Suddenly Lyndon Johnson was on the tv saying, "my fellow Americans....." My grandfather let out a rash of curses directed at the President, that were bluer than blue and contained the awful "N........lover". My grandmother ran in from the kitchen. Now we all thought, being kids, that my grandfather regularly lorded over my grandmother because she was the archtypical kind cookie baking granny and he was the gruff mean grandpa. However, she literally got one inch from his face and screamed at him to NEVER say those words in front of the GRANDCHILDREN AGAIN! He slunk down, flipped his paper back up and didn't utter another word. This is my earliest "policital" discussion with an adult.

Why doesn’t this outrage people? This is political cynicism of an amazing degree.

It's hard to get too outraged over this, especially since he's clearly urging adults with living parents to get them to vote Obama, hence "Do share your personal reasons for voting for Barack Obama" and "Tell them why you are voting for Obama and why it’s important to you." (Emphasis added to underscore that "kids" 18+ are the target)

I don't discuss politics all that often with my parents, but I do from time to time. I don't think it's all that outrageous that a candidate would want his voters to use the obvious influence they would have with their parents.

O.K. kids - let's have an experiment in the type of governmnent your favorite candidate is advocating.

1. All speech in the house must be approved by your parents and conform to parental respect standards. (This means no complaining about the way things are run or we will send your little brother to shame you in public)

2. To insure fairness all candy, toys, electronics, computer time and other desirable items will be distributed evenly between all household members. Fair will be determined by a majority vote including your little brothers and sisters. Anyone unhappy with what is deemed fair can appeal to the court of parental opinion.

3. In order to reduce your carbon footprint the drivers test we had scheduled for your 16th birthday will be replaced with a bicycle safety course.

Any questions?

But you must accept that if Barak Obama is elected president, our taxes will be higher, so there will be no money to buy any additional Play Station updates, no more Wii games, no more cards for the Apple Store where you get 99 cent song downloads for your IPod. The money we shell out for those $150 pairs of jeans? Gone in taxes, because Barack Obama will make it so.

Now, do you still want us to vote for Barack Obama?"

165 Walter L. Newton  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:29:16am

Why would this "bother" a lot of people. Parents have gone further and further away from having any control of thier children. They let the public schools do it, the sports teams do it, this support group and that support group do it, the day care, night care, group care, play dates, all kinds of activities that puts the kids in the hands of the community.

And media and marketing isolates children from thier parents. For the girls we have a whole make believe world of Hanna this or Britanny that, concerts, dolls, movies, high school themed activities, while at the same time the boys are shown the hidden evils of winning, being better than the next person, any self-worth versus group worth.

This is just par for the course, Obama rocks!

The kid who, towards the end of the video, talks about blackmailing his grandmother by not helping her with text messaging if she doesn't vote his way needs to be taught a little bit of good old-fashioned respect.

He seems to have learned "reverence for grandma" all too well from Obama Himself.

I don't discuss politics all that often with my parents, but I do from time to time. I don't think it's all that outrageous that a candidate would want his voters to use the obvious influence they would have with their parents.

Adults have been corrupted by civilization. Children are pure and idealistic, and to be trusted. Rosseau's ideas (that froggie bastard). I think the commies like him.

191 Nancy  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:35:59am

It's even worse.........encouraging that children to use emotional manipulation on their grandparents. I was outraged when I saw this before. This comes very close to advising children to use "emotional blackmail" and at the very least it is emotional manipulation ==use
love as a WEAPON.

"Talk to your grandparents about Obama"

This message is exclusively for Obama supporters who: 1) Have grandparents who are planning to vote for John McCain or are undecided about their choice for President and 2) Know someone whose grandparents are voting for John McCain or are undecided about their choice for President.

...I have been overwhelmed and inspired by the passion and commitment of young Obama volunteers and supporters everywhere I have traveled as one of the national co-chairs of Barack's campaign. Harnessing that energy for the purpose of moving older voters toward Barack Obama seemed like a natural.

Rep. Schakowsky ...argues, the most effective argument may be an emotional one.

The one thing most grandparents have in common is that they have the most wonderful grandchildren in the world - so clever, so handsome, so pretty, ever so precious. Even if you are still unsure of your path in life, and even if your parents and friends occasionally wonder about you, your grandma and grandpa love you and have faith in you.

That is your weapon! "Precious" needs to get on the phone and say, "Grandpa, Grandma, I am asking you to vote for Barack Obama. This is really important to me. It's about my future. It's about the world I will be living in. It's about the world I want for my future children. (They will love that one!) Please! Do it for me!"

...The really great part of this strategy is that everything you could possibly say to your grandparents about how important Barack's election is for you is one hundred percent true.

Hoffer is great in that book:

"A man is likely to mind his own business when it is worth minding. When it is not, he takes his mind off his own meaningless affairs by minding other people’s business. . . The burning conviction that we have a holy duty toward others is often a way of attaching our drowning selves to a passing raft. What looks like giving a hand is often a holding on for dear life. Take away our holy duties and you leave our lives puny and meaningless. There is no doubt that in exchanging a self-centered for a selfless life we gain enormously in self-esteem. The vanity of the selfless, even those who practice utmost humility, is boundless.”

THREATEN GRANDMA THAT IF SHE DOESN'T VOTE FOR OBAMA YOU WON'T HELP HER WITH THE COMPUTER OR TIVO AGAIN?!

I hope Grandma tells him to shove it HARD someplace where it will HURT!

She can also remind him that she can HIRE someone to help her -- and that someone WON'T try to pressure her to be his political puppet!

If I pulled that on my grandma my mother would have cracked a hot iron across my head.

Pre-election the Obama kids will attempt to persuade their parents to vote Obama.

Post election will they be asked to turn in those parents who didn't comply?

If we are headed to a radical Leftist Government -without checks and balances - history has shown that anything is possible.

259 F451  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 11:47:28am

My sons are both Republicans. We have already had any number of fascinating discussions about B.H. Obama at dinner -- but probably not quite of the character these Obamians had in mind.

My wife, too, has had a few conversations at work with co-workers who wanted to talk politics and seemed open-minded. So far, no one has convinced her to vote for BHO, but she may have inclined a few other people in the opposite direction.

Sadly, we both also know any number of BHO voters who are not only immune to reasoned persuasion, but who become downright nasty upon finding that we are not devotees of The One.

When he introduced Romney the crowd went wild. McCain didn't seem all that pleased. It seemed like the crowd really would like Mitt to be running.

Those leaks about conflict between Mac's and Sarah's campaign staffs, plus the "Palin is a DIVA" rumor, are reportedly coming from Romney advisers now working with McCain.

Both my boys did. Public school, too.

It was a great teaching opportunity, for me if not for their teachers. 'AF' is a great way to lead into the way revolutions end up devouring their own. For '1984,' they both used the front section of Anthony Burgess's '1985' to get c. 1948 background their teachers didn't know about.

Who Needs ACORN? We've Got Elections Canada

Naw, we don't need to count *every* vote....

On October 14 Liberal Ujjal Dosanjh won his seat in Vancouver South by a margin of 33 votes, which under Elections Canada rules triggered an automatic recount. Here's the curious thing, though: the judge in charge of the recount didn't open all the ballot boxes. According to some sources, only 28 out of 184 ballot boxes -- fifteen percent -- were counted, after which the judge declared Dosanjh the winner by a now diminished margin of 22 votes. The Conservative candidate, Wai Young, said only "a sampling" of ballot boxes were recounted.

Again, how much of those rumors are started by those who want to create friction and divide Republicans. I also read that it was Romney aides who didn't like Sarah Palin.

I am skeptical because it sounds more like someone trying to create "internal" infighting --drive away the Romney supporters from McCain.

I can't see why McCain would look "displeased" because Romney got applause because the reason McCain would have brought him OUT publically as part of his economic team would be for to get the positive applause!

Romney is experienced in that area. McCain knows it.

Be very careful because it is to the Democrats advantage to have a division among Republicans.

I'm sure you'll get badges for "learning about the birds and bees", "community organizing", "singing songs of hope" and "getting out the vote (for democrat candidates only)".

I was subbing for a 7th Grade PSR teacher last year, and the ropic of what “Thou shall not kill.” Really means. Through discussion, the kids believed defending your family was OK, and a soldier killing combatents in war was OK, when one girl spoke up and said, “War is wrong, period.” So I asked her if that meant we should just give up when one nation or group decided they did not like how we lived and told us we had to do what they want or they would wage war on us. She thought – paused and hesitated—and then doggedly said, “Yeah, we should do what they want because war is bad.” So I asked her if she was familier with muslim sharia law. She said no, so I told her some of the high points of a few of them – stoning women for infidelity, crushing homosexuals or burying them alive, burkas, freedom of religion, driving, school, etc. I then asked her if she still felt the same way if the folks said we had to adopt that law or wage war. She didn’t.

So kids at this age can be reasoned with.

Of course, she has probably had another year of blather and won’t remember that day, but you just never know. So when kids bing up politics, talk to them and see if they can’t be reasoned with. Sometimes they listen far better than adults, and when show alternatives they were never exposed to, think and make their own minds up.

344 Fred72  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 12:17:03pm
Do talk to them in person if you live nearby, or on the phone if you don’t;

Hmm. It's clear from the writeup that the Obama campaign is targeting kids -- children -- and not young adults of voting age. That's an important distinction.

This shows you how messed up the campaign is; somebody forgot to tell them that children don't typically live with their parents. That's a pretty embarrassing blunder. I suppose their excuse is that they mean children of divorced parents who only live with one of them.

346 kynna  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 12:18:58pm

Parents,

When your children come to you with pleas to vote for Obama, ask them what they understand of his policies. At the same time, wonder to yourself if you actually understand his policies. If you truly do then you will most definitely not be voting for Obama, but you'll need to explain those policies to your children. If you don't then look into those policies (hint: you will have to look beyond the MSM).

Next, pick up the phone and call the Obama campaign headquarters. Tell them if they interfere with your child again before said child is eighteen, then you are going to complain to every federal election agency you can find and you'll do it through a lawyer.

Next, wait for police to arrive to arrest you for being a racist.

Some time ago, back when we were "losing the War in Iraq." The Simpsons TV show came out with an episode in which the US Army was supposedly "early recruiting" Springfield Elementary School students. Naturally, Bart was signed up and Homer had to bail him out by taking his place as an Army Recruit. This leftist portrayal was crap then and when they actually do it -- like with these naive children -- it is crap now!

When David Koresh did this to children -- Janet Reno and the Justice Department killed them to, you know, protect them.

How will this brainwashing turn out any differently?

So the Weathermen have gone from telling young people to "Kill your parents!" to having their front man get kids to pressure their parents and grandparents to "Vote for Obama!"

How soon before they would have children report their parents to authorities for disagreeing with a Weathermen President if he gets into office?

If the U.S. elects a man who sees the U.S. Constitution as problematic in a situation where his party has all three branches of the government - the checks and balances will go right out the window (along with the future of the U.S. constitution itself.)

The fact that Obama is getting funded by hundreds of millions of dollars from overseas (which is illegal) and that he used voter fraud to defeat Hillary in the caucuses and vast voter fraud in the election itself - this is a coup attempt.

This is truly frightening.

The MSM on the whole is a co-conspirator in this, too.

how sinister.
what are the implications of this?
that children should do more than encourage their parents and grandparents who to vote for.
turn them in, threaten them?
this should not be a burden for kids. they should not be asked to cajole, entice or compel their elders who to vote for.

totalitarian states often use children to spy and report on their own parents.
obama is insinuating himself right into the family unit as if it means nothing.
very inappropriate.

Some good news in this, however, is that the Nickelodeon kids vote this year was extremely close - only two points apart!

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has been declared the winner of the 2008 Kids Pick the President National Poll, Nickelodeon announced.

A record-setting number of votes -- upwards of 2.2 million -- were cast in the network's online poll.

Nickelodeon said it has held a kids' vote every presidential election year since 1988, and children have correctly predicted the winner in four out of the last five U.S. presidential campaigns.

This year, Obama received 51 percent or 1,167,087 votes, while Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., received 49 percent or 1,129,945 votes.

It isn't scientific, but I'd really love to know how so many kids were drawn to McCain (enough to put the difference at only two points when it wouldn't have been surprising if the difference had been 20 points.)

Nickelodeon viewers 'vote' for Obama [by only 2 points!]

In 2004, they chose Kerry at 57% versus Bush at 43%.

A friend of mine at work became a Republican four or five years ago, but her grown son is still a Democrat (after having grown up with her politics all his life.)

She told me that the conversations between the two of them about the election are tense enough to avoid now altogether because they just get into very bitter arguments about it. They've stopped talking about politics completely for this reason.

What's interesting is that her son intends to vote for McCain, though.

He's a died in the wool Democrat who doesn't like McCain or Palin, but he is worried enough about what Obama would do that he is voting for McCain.

It doesn't make the conversations any easier for my friend because he dislikes McCain and Palin so much, but she is very happy that he plans to vote for them anyway.

This Stalinist crap is just a small taste of what we can expect from an Obama Administration. Kids will be indoctrinated to rat out their parents for "mind crimes"--certainly the kids going to public schools. This is absolutely the weirdest, most 'third worldly' election I could ever imagine for America in my worst nightmares--nightmares that won't necessarily end with a McCain/Palin victory. After all, Obama bin Biden has got this far, hav'nt they? Sadly, I'm sure I will lose a few old friends over this election--seperating the wheat from the chaff , I guess. I just can't see honestly welcoming anyone into my house who has bought into this surreal Orwellian mindset.

The thing that annoys me about this thing is that the campaign treats us like idiots. (And by "us" I'm referring to teenagers)

It may be targeting younger kids, like 12ish, but not only a) that's gonna be really annoying because then the 12 year olds would be idiotic fanboys and girls and b) he SHOULD be targeting teenagers, though if I had to guess, those are probably who he hires to do his website.

Well, if the kid's parents have brains, and the website is suggesting "Don’t worry about knowing everything about policy positions before you have this conversation," then the kids are gonna be destroyed in any sort of debate.

And besides, Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Odd Parents, and the like have a) given me a good sense of humor, believe it or not and b) have taught me good life lessons. Hasn't taught me much about the "real world", but that's what parents, books, and experience are for, right?

385 revvy  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 8:16:15pm

Ugh.

Not only is it especially detestable that Obama is using kids to get to their parents, but way to enforce the stupid idea kids have today that they know as much or more than their folks!

I'm still a teen (though that's changing next year - I'm too young to be an adult!) and I LOVE my parents. But more than that, I respect the fact that I am their child and nine times out of ten - and probably more than that - they know better than me by simple way of experience. I was raised to respect my elders, unless they do something to suggest that they don't deserve that respect. In turn, my parents respect me and never talk down to me, because I've proven that I can conduct myself maturely. I don't HAVE to threaten or yell at my parents in order to get them to listen to me, because I've earned the privilege of having my opinions hold weight to them. If I say something wrong they correct me, but never in a condescending manner.

If I got on the phone and yelled at my parents for not registering to vote (or any reason for that matter), or tried to blackmail my grandparents into doing what I wanted, do you even KNOW how much trouble I'd be in? But in the first place I'd never do that. I respect them too much.

This whole Obama Youth thing is just making kids feel even more self-important than they already do - and trust me, I know it's a problem. If I had a dime for every one of my peers who I saw or heard treating their parents like dirt, well, my college tuition would no longer be a problem. Thanks a lot Obama, for making the kids I'm around every day all the more insufferable.

Yes, I read the whole thing as a teenager. The horror if it was too arresting to put the book down. And Hitler Youth Groups featured very strongly in Hitler's take over of Germany. Now we have Obama using the children against their parents, too.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.
