McCarthy: The L.A. Times Suppresses Obama's Khalidi Bash Tape

Politics | Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 11:52:38 am PDT

Andrew McCarthy picks up on the Los Angeles Times’ outrageous suppression of a potentially explosive videotape: The L.A. Times Suppresses Obama’s Khalidi Bash Tape.

Why is the Los Angeles Times sitting on a videotape of the 2003 farewell bash in Chicago at which Barack Obama lavished praise on the guest of honor, Rashid Khalidi — former mouthpiece for master terrorist Yasser Arafat?

At the time Khalidi, a PLO adviser turned University of Chicago professor, was headed east to Columbia. There he would take over the University’s Middle East-studies program (which he has since maintained as a bubbling cauldron of anti-Semitism) and assume the professorship endowed in honor of Edward Sayyid, another notorious terror apologist.

The party featured encomiums by many of Khalidi’s allies, colleagues, and friends, including Barack Obama, then an Illinois state senator, and Bill Ayers, the terrorist turned education professor. It was sponsored by the Arab American Action Network (AAAN), which had been founded by Khalidi and his wife, Mona, formerly a top English translator for Arafat’s press agency.

Is there just a teeny-weenie chance that this was an evening of Israel-bashing Obama would find very difficult to explain? Could it be that the Times, a pillar of the Obamedia, is covering for its guy?

Don’t let them get away with it.

I contacted some advertisers and the LA Times this morning. Hope we help. I can't believe what's happening with the press. They are no longer journalists--now propagandists.

I suggest starting any contact letter with "Your advertisers will receive a copy of this message." Then write your letter. Then copy the letter and send it to the advertisers with the heading "This is the public opinion of those you advertise with. It might benefit you to advertise through other channels." Just a suggestion.

This is good. Keep at it. I've started getting back the auto-responses from their advertisers, including one that noted rather shamefacedly that the LA Times is not currently on their advertising schedule. That, at least, took a moment's thought. People respond well to pressure.

Here's a nice little nest of facts:

In 2001, the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit that describes itself as a group helping the disadvantaged, provided a $40,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, for which Khalidi's wife, Mona, serves as president. The Fund provided a second grant to the AAAN for $35,000 in 2002.

Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.

Obama served on the Wood's Fund board alongside William C. Ayers, a member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to overthrow of the U.S. government and took responsibility for bombing the U.S. Capitol in 1971.

Ayers, who still serves on the Woods Fund board, contributed $200 to Obama's senatorial campaign fund and has served on panels with Obama at numerous public speaking engagements.

WHAT IS THE LAT HIDING?

I have recently started up a conversation with a couple of LAT reporters. I asked them both yesterday what was up with this. One of them e-mailed me back and said that he no longer works for LAT and if he could find out anything he would let me know. The other reporter has not yet responded to me yet. Here is what I asked them....

Dear Robin and Matt,
Because you have been so kind to actually respond to me in the past, I want to ask you both something. I understand, according to the following LA Times article, Allies of Palestinians see a friend in Barack Obama, that a videotape of a meeting is being held by your newspaper and Peter Wallsten is refusing to release it.
[Link: www.latimes.com...]
“The event was videotaped, and a copy of the tape was obtained by The Times.”
Please look at the following website:
[Link: gatewaypundit.blogspot.com...]
According to Wallsten the evening not surprisingly turned into a classic Jew-bash:

"During the dinner a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, "then you will never see a day of peace."
One speaker likened "Zionist settlers on the West Bank" to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been "blinded by ideology."

Should Wallsten release the videotape?

Yes, I'd love to know.

The L.A. Times has been pro-Palestinian for decades now, and was even willing to lose Jewish readers (and it can't afford to lose any readers) rather than cut back on their hugs-'n-Kisses PLO articles.

The fact that they're so scared to release this video makes me think there must be more to it than just Obama being supportive of the PLO; if that were the case, they'd probably have released it already, thinking it good PR for Obama, that would probably win over more people to the Palestinian cause. I may be wrong of course. . . but it would be nice if the LAT would release it, just to clear things up.

On a related note, from Breitbart:

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Newsroom staffing at the Los Angeles Times is shrinking again.

Newspaper spokeswoman Nancy Sullivan said Monday that 75 staffers are being laid off in the latest round of cuts.

She declined further comment and would not disclose how many journalists will remain at the paper.

The Times, which is owned by Chicago-based Tribune Co., reduced its overall staff by 250 people last summer, including 150 from the newsroom.

Editor Russ Stanton blamed the cutbacks on the economic slowdown.

At Khalidi's 2003 farewell party, for example, a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, "then you will never see a day of peace."

One speaker likened "Zionist settlers on the West Bank" to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been "blinded by ideology."

I know, I know! It really must have devolved into one heck of a Jewbash/Israelbash for them to be so squeamish about showing it!

(And, if anyone from the LAT is reading this----if we're wrong about this being a Jew/Israelbash, then release the video, prove us wrong for G-d's sake!)

If they release anything, it'll probably be a heavily edited copy.

My letter to the LAT follows:

Dear Sir:

I understand that your paper is in possession of a videotape from a 2003 event in Chicago at which Barack Obama lavished praise on the guest of honor, Rashid Khalidi, who also happens to be an apologist for Palestinian terrorism. Also present at that event were Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, who both were terrorists who engaged in multiple bombings before being rehabilitated by the Chicago political scene and academia. Sen. Obama was reported to have spoken at length about Khalidi in glowing terms.

My question is how and why the paper continues to refuse releasing the contents of the full video. What is on that video that has it sequestered by the editors of the paper? The public has a right to know who Sen. Obama associates with and on whom he seeks to lavish praise. On what grounds is the paper refusing to release the details? Surely, I can think of no reason as to why the paper is refusing to release this information unless they are allowing their political leanings to cloud the judgment to report newsworthy items. The steadfast silence only heightens suspicions that the video contains information that the Obama campaign would rather not have to explain away.

There is no legitimate reason for which the video remains from public view, unless the editors have made a conscious effort to bury newsworthy information that might pose hazardous to the Obama campaign. That the paper has chosen this path makes me wonder whether the paper would take a similar position had the paper come into possession of a tape showing Sen. McCain or Gov. Palin making similar comments under similar situations. I sincerely doubt that the paper would go to such lengths to keep such video from public view had it involved Sen. McCain or Gov. Palin.

It is my sincere hope that the paper reconsider its editorial decision to sit on this video and to release it so that the American people can decide for themselves. The media is not a gatekeeper to information, but a pathway for which such information can be gathered. Continued actions to block the free flow of this information only serve to undermine the credibility of your institution and I hope that you reconsider.

Sincerely,

lawhawk

Barack Obama when he was only 40:

His past views, his tax plan, and other spontaneous offerings ("Spread the wealth around") are a fair enough representation of a European socialist view of how to take money from higher wage earners and redistribute it to the less well off, apparently on the twin premises that one's income is really property of the state, and, that the mechanism by which a market compensates people is arbitrary and unfair and in need of 'redistributive change.'

My college kid just sent this (and sent me a copy as well):

Dear LAT Editor,

As a student at XXXX, I have been taught that a truly free vote is predicated on access to information. If information is withheld, the possibility of making an informed choice is greatly reduced.

During these last days of the election, your reporter, Peter Wallsten, has been sitting on a videotape of Barack Obama speaking at a party with left-leaning radicals. I have no idea what is in that tape, but would like to know. In all probability, it won't hurt Obama's chances of being elected.

But that's not the issue. The issue is access to information. You have the information and you are sitting on it. You are refusing to let ordinary voters make an informed decision about Obama. If there is nothing to hide, why hide it? And if there is something to hide, voters should know about it.

I am finally old enough to vote in a presidential election and want to be as informed and responsible as possible.

So please let people like me decide on the content of this videotape. Don't be like Nixon and try to withhold taped evidence.

Thank you,

By Jonathan Alter | NEWSWEEK

In the end, the problem was the LIVs. That's short for "low-information voters,"

the three fifths of the electorate that shows up once every four years to vote for president but mostly hates politics. These are the 75 million folks who didn't vote in the primaries. They don't read newsmagazines or newspapers, don't watch any cable news and don't cast their ballots early. Their allegiance to a candidate is as easily shed as a T shirt. Several million moved to Obama through September and October; they'd heard he handled himself well in the debates. Then, in the last week, the LIVs swung back to the default choice: John McCain. Some had good reasons other than the color of Obama's skin to desert him; many more did not. In October, a study by the Associated Press estimated that Obama's race would cost him 6 percent. The percentage was smaller, but still enough to give the presidency to McCain.

Say that to my face Alter, say it my face, I dare you.

A good synopsis of what an Obama Administration would bring:

The Europeanization of America

1.The U.S. military will withdraw from Iraq quickly and substantially, regardless of conditions on the ground or the obvious consequence of emboldening terrorists there and around the globe.
2.Protectionism will become our national trade policy; free trade agreements with other nations will be reduced and limited.
3.Income taxes will rise on middle- and upper-income people and businesses, and individuals will pay much higher Social Security taxes, all to carry out the new president's goals of "spreading the wealth around."
4.Federal government spending will substantially increase. The new Obama proposals come to more than $300 billion annually, for education, health care, energy, environmental and many other programs, in addition to whatever is needed to meet our economic challenges. Mr. Obama proposes more than a 10% annual spending growth increase, considerably higher than under the first President Bush (6.7%), Bill Clinton (3.3%) or George W. Bush (6.4%).
5.Federal regulation of the economy will expand, on everything from financial management companies to electricity generation and personal energy use.
6.The power of labor unions will substantially increase, beginning with repeal of secret ballot voting to decide on union representation.
7.Free speech will be curtailed through the reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine to limit the conservative talk radio that so irritates the liberal establishment.

The UN endorsement is in.........

"Obama was and is unstoppable," the official said. "Please, God, let him win," he added.

[snip]

"It would be hard to find anybody, I think, at the U.N. who would not believe that Obama would be a considerable improvement over any other alternative," said William H. Luers, executive director of the United Nations Association. "It's been a bad eight years, and there is a lot of bad feeling over it."

[snip]

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has avoided showing a public preference about the presidential campaign -- although he has hinted at a soft spot for Obama in private gatherings, according to U.N. officials.

[snip]

"We do not consider him an African American," said Congo's U.N. ambassador, Atoki Ileka. "We consider him an African."

[snip]

Kofi Annan, the first black U.N. secretary general, said the prospect of an Obama presidency would be "phenomenal."

This is what we can expect in the future. The Fairness Doctrine will be back in full force if Obiden gets elected. No more Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity.

FYI: I was contacted by a major news organization today regarding the video of Barack Obama toasting former PLO operative Rashid Khalidi at a Jew-bash in Chicago in 2003.

They're working on a story.
I will let you know if and when there are more updates.

Maybe, maybe not. It may just be the way to rope-a-dope the blogs until it's too late. Keep up the pressure, folks.

You won't regret being civil to someone, even if it's Charles Manson. On the other hand, by remaining civil you are forcing yourself to articulate exactly what the perpetrator has done, without buzzwords, without fluff, and without rancor.

Just saying that in it's simple naked simplicity is more damning than any insult anyone could hurl.

Not to mention a greater chance of actually being read and action being taken. Abusive letters/Emails usually get disregarded and trashed.

If the truth continues to be hidden, as the LA Times refuses to make this video public, your journalistic credibility will be destroyed in my mind and the mind of everyone I speak to about your paper.

I subscribe to the LA Times and have always enjoyed your paper, despite the obvious left-leaning bias that shows up in front-page pieces subtitled “News Analysis.” I’ve always appreciated the balance shown on your editorial page by columnists, though not necessarily by the editor. Panel blocks Georgia voter checks

ATLANTA (AP) — Federal judges have ordered Georgia elections officials to stop using Social Security numbers and driver's licenses to check voters' immigration status until the U.S. Justice Department decides whether to approve the process.

Georgia is one of several states that needs federal approval before changing election policy because of a history of discriminatory voting practices.

The three-judge panel's 27-page ruling Monday orders Georgia officials to make "diligent and immediate" efforts to notify voters who have been flagged as ineligible.

It also blocks the state from removing flagged names from voter lists unless voters say in writing that they are ineligible.

ask for a non-fat soy latte, I should think. I rather like the article as it displays the pathetic idiocy and moral vacuity of the media.

Zombie, this is the thread from Free Republic about that protest:

Protest this Friday in front of a Los Angeles Mosque

The contact email address no longer works. I've sent a message through the site to the person who posted the thread.

Other L.A. protests:

Anti-Israel protest FRIDAY July 7 - WE ARE COUNTER-PROTESTING! YOU ARE NEEDED IN L.A.

Was organized by StandWithUs who have an LA chapter.

Mock Hanging of Osama in Front of L.A. Mosque this Sept 10th was organized by the United American Committee

Have you contacted ProtestWarrior? Are they still a group?

WrathofG-D talked at LGF about an L.A. protest in the past.

I'm emailing people from all of these groups and people who started threads on the protests. You might want to emal them also.

Hey I just noticed that Andrew McCarthy links to my Prairie Fire exposé at the end of his piece about the LA Times tape! He references the Palestinian stuff I included. Yeah baby! I knew I put that in there for a reason.

You should send that article to Dennis Prager, he likes to highlight the anti-smoking zealotry.

re: #253 SeafoodGumbo

Great research. I simply don't have time to organize it -- it'll have to be up to you.

But I know how these things work. Someone just has to announce the time definitively, and everyone will jump on board. That could be you. Don't wait around for some organizer to set up the time. Just decide when and where the protest will be, and start sending it around! Hopefully it will snowball on its own.

It has to be immediate, the sooner the better. Too late for today, so I suggest tomorrow, during lunchtime -- 12 noon - 1pm. In front of the LA Times office. After work is too late, I think, though it is a possibility.

Just post it at Free Republic or somewhere and let it take on a life of its own.

re: #256 zombie

Wouldn't tomorrow be too soon? Wouldn't Wednesday be better so that people can get a heads-up?

Let me give it an hour or two to hear back from all of the people I emailed. They have organized protests in LA before and would know locations and times that are suitable. I'm in LA, only the LA is Louisiana, not Los Angeles.

Let me see what I head back and then I'll plan the next step.

McCain and Palin are on record as hating Stevens but the MSM will not credit them.

If he only had a couple hundred thousand frozen in his freezer, he would have been OK.

Oh yeah, and if he had a D after his name.

Since he doesn't...24/7 news coverage linking him to McCain!

If anyone is forced to release the tape, will that mean the suppression of the fact that Obama attended Columbia - taking Middle Eastern Studies in the early 80's - all the while, once again, sharing the neighborhood w/Ayers - this time NYC - might be lifted?

Obama has steadfastly refused to discuss his days at Columbia.

Charles: Let's don't let them get away with it?

Charles, they don't CARE about truth!
If they did care about truth they wouldn't be winning right now.
But they have thwarted all attempts by anyone to debunk anything they have that is untrue by simply not caring.
The 0bama constituency is made up of 96% of all black voters and also includes easily 90+% of all voters on the dole.
Another huge chunk are voters whose job it is to dole out the dole.
Then there are ''teachers.''

Meanwhile those who oppose him include many so ideologically driven as to sit on their hands rather than see a moderate like McCain win.
We lose.
I just hope your site isn't shut down in the waves of United Nations hate speech laws soon to be enforced here by 0bama and his national security forces.

Why not release the Rashid Khalidi video tape?

Reporting the news rather than hiding it might help stem your ever decreasing circulation and staff.
