The markets don't like uncertainty. And there is a lot of that going around right now. They don't like presidential elections, either. I expect them to settle down after Nov 5th and they'll take a wait and see attitude when either McCain or BHO is in and what direction the new Pres will go.

Shame less self promotion - FOR DENVER AREA LIZARDS - Press release.

Theatre Guild continues The New Venture Series
FREE Staged Readings of New Work by Colorado Playwrights

“Appearances”
by Walter L. Newton

Directed by Rick Bernstein

(Denver, CO) On Wednesday, November 12 the Colorado Theatre Guild presents the next installment in an ongoing free staged reading series showcasing new works by Colorado playwrights. "Appearances" by Walter L. Newton will be presented in a staged reading directed by Rick Bernstein (Artistic Director of Miners Alley Playhouse) at the Miners Alley Playhouse, 1224 Washington Avenue (Downtown Golden -Corner of 13th & Washington - 2nd Floor) on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m.

"Stephan is a successful, 50 year old prosecuting attorney for the city of Chicago. He returns from the funeral of his mother with a valise and the hope that its contents will answer some questions about his deceased father. What it does reveal is that his father is alive and has been serving a life sentence in the state prison. And the reason he is in jail shakes the very core of his entire family. He discovers that what appears to be reality can quickly be shattered by family secrets. "

Adapted by Walter L. Newton from Joanne Greenberg's newest novel. Just as Greenberg dealt with schizophrenia in her book "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," she returns once again to a difficult social and medical issue and offers her amazing insight into the human condition." In 2004, Newton’s adaptation of Joanne Greenberg's "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" received 3 nominations for the Post's Ovations Award including Best New Play.

“Appearances” is presented FREE to the public and will be followed by a talkback with the author and cast which includes Rick Bernstein, Paige Lynn Larson and Laura Norman.

Wow. I just got the following from an Obama supporter with whom I correspond on occasion. I guess he thought it would "change" (drink!) my mind. Notice the utter contempt for anything that is not part of the worldview of the "elites":

Dear Red States:

We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building. You get Dollywood. We get Apple, Intel, Cisco and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Yale. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You now get to make the red states pay their fair share. Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that New California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 990 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Congratulations. I loved "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" -- I read it when I was probably 12 or 13. I was a weird child.

39 Grandma  Mon, Oct 27, 2008 3:25:53pm

So this will be a little personal ancient history and I’ll try to give you the Reader’s Digest version so I don’t bore any lizards to tears. I was widowed in 1974. I never remarried. I had four children under the age of seven. They went to a school system in NJ that in 1973 was about to lose their accreditation for the high school. My kids went there, and because they WANTED an education, and in spite of a poor system were all admitted to state colleges and universities, primarily Rutgers University.

Each one of those kids lived in college dorms their first year. Then they elected to move back home and commute (we only lived 8 miles from Rutgers). I opened the doors up again, took a freezer plan to put more food in the house. Between each one of those kids, and my efforts, we put a small down payment from the remaining college savings on a new car in my name for each (down payment would have been equal to the next year’s dorm fees). The arrangement between my kids and me was that when they got a degree beginning with the letter “B”, the car would be theirs, no strings. At one point I was making three car payments on a job that only paid a supervisor’s salary.

Once the kids had transportation, they found part-time jobs (some had two or three). Two kids took out student loans for only about $2K to $3K total for each. They paid their own personal expenses, car insurance and co-pays for their health care under my insurance. One daughter who got her BA degree in 1990 actually kept her 1987 Mustang until 1996.

My point is that education is about the student buying into it. It isn’t a handout. I’m so darn lucky that every one of my four kids bought into their own education. They didn’t expect me or the gubmint to entitle that for them. Who are these little darlings today that think they’re going to earn the big bucks with the attitude about learning that they have? Another daughter had her resume professionally printed up two weeks after getting her BA degree and said, “don’t worry, Ma, I’ve been to the university and I already know who the competition is, and I’ll get the job”. She sure did. And she was the one to buy her own home at age 24.

So, screw throwing more taxes to the “education” system. When are these educators going to realize that until the child buys into their own education and works to make it happen for themselves, instead of some “community organizer” or elitist professor, that nothing will change for them?

Thanks for listening to Grandma on another lovely Carolina evening, and have a nice day.

Deconstructing The Power of the Global Elite

By Judith Young
October, 2008

"In the aftermath of Congressional approval of bailout legislation granting sweeping powers to the financial elite, the body politic appears to be helplessly mired in the relentless unfolding of classical fascism before its very eyes. Coming to terms with this terrifying predicament can benefit from a primer that renders naked the forms of raw power used by the global elite in advancing its agenda for full spectrum dominance. This will enable us to determine if we are in fact helpless and to use care and deliberation in finding the means to take our power back.
...
As our best minds address the hair raising elitist victory represented by the bailout legislation, I encourage their deconstructing just how this criminality managed to succeed by tracing its origins in history in terms of the threefold model of power given in this article. In my own view, the current crisis is a crisis in the Chinese sense of the term, i.e., an opportunity in disguise. Because the crisis is rightly perceived as a conflict between Wall Street and Main Street, as an incongruence between the actions of government and the political will and best interest of its constituents, and more generally as a power grab by authoritarian capitalism that is in full daylight for all to examine, it is an opportunity like no other for educating the populace. It is an opportunity like no other to awaken and educate the people so they are no longer sitting ducks for the three forms of power delineated in this article. Especially the third: history abounds with examples of how the first two forms of power lose their hold, indeed in many cases back off, when confronted with a people who value the quality of life over life on any terms, a people who will go to any lengths to protect their basic rights as human beings.

It is that spirit that infused the birth and early life of our Republic. I am betting that it is still alive and well in America."

=====================

Judith H. Young, Ph.D., has a B.A. and an M.A. in Philosophy and a doctorate in Political Science (Brandeis University, 1973). In the 1960s she was a published think tank researcher with a Top Secret security clearance in the areas of arms control, strategic studies and international aerospace activities. In 1973-74 she taught International Politics at Mount Holyoke University in Massachusetts.

I spend 2 hours this morning calmly going over some problems the guy has had submitting work requests, the guy seems very understanding, asks questions, we go over the details and everything he needs to fix. 20 minutes ago, he resubmits everything with no changes made at all and then, when they get rejected, he asks what was wrong with them.

I'm just forwarding everything to my manager. The guy has developed a real reputation for this kind of crap.

My response to the sod would be something like this;

Yes, you have all that.

We have;

87% of the arable land.
91% of the grain crops.
85% of the vegetable crops.
96% of the legumes and root crops. (That's "peanuts" and "potatoes" to you.)
97% of the heavy industry.
91% of the mineral resources.
69% of the working-age population.

and

100% of the people who aren't busy despising their fellow Americans for not being leftover radicals from the Days of Rage.

You may be boutique America, but we're that part that does the actual work. If you want to know how well you'll be able to function without us- study Japan very, very carefully. Because you're about to become an island nation, like them. The difference is, in their case, it was a decision made by nature several billion years ago. In your case, it'll be your own fault.

And BTW- can you fix everything in your (no doubt expensive) house or car without help?

We have most of the schools that teach people to do that sort of thing, too.

cheers

The winning definition: "Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

My response to the sod would be something like this;

Yes, you have all that.

We have;

We have most of the schools that teach people to do that sort of thing, too.

cheers

eon

Great stuff!
thanks.

Has anyone noticed the "new" VW ads featuring Brooke Shields? Creepy, huh? She espouses about getting pregnant for "German engineering". Given Germany's rather dark history with eugenics and encouraging women getting pregnant for the Reich, this ad campaign is a bit sordid.

Sound off please...

Probably a post election bounce, but January reports of bad Xmas sales will cause more selling. If BHO wins there could be huge cap-gains selling before year end to avoid his tax hikes.

The 'Market' tends to assimilate forward risk so we are seeing the market's reaction right now to an Obama win. There will be more negative movements during the next week unless the Obamination makes a massive strategic blunder. Not holding my breath on that however as the Obamination runs the clock down and keeps his mouth shut.

What your friend does not realize is that his "Estate Bleu" Empire is wanting. Take CA for instance. The Blues have the Bay Area and LA. The rest of the state is Red. That's right, we got the food, the farms, the water, the wine, Yosemite--not to mention all the military installations.

As far as beaches go, the best are in Florida and along the Gulf Coast. Where, I might add is almost all the domestic oil and gas production. The Red states also produce all the coal and natural gas.

As for the east coast, again, outside the major urban (and urbane) areas, it's Red counties, again, where all the farms and food are located.

So, Blue States, go on and leave. Don't let the door hit you on the ass.

by Walter L.

Ok, I want to clear my conscious a little. Hopefully you could make a blog post to help some fellow clinton supporters out.

I work for a campaign and can’t wait for this week to be over.

I was doing it for a job. I was not a fan of any candidate but over time grew to love HRC.

The internal campaign idea is to twist, distort, humiliate and finally dispirit you.

We pay people and organize people to go to all the online sites and “play the part of a clinton or mccain supporter who just switched our support for obama”

We do this to stifle your motivation and to destroy your confidence.

We did this the whole primary and it worked.

Sprinkle in mass vote confusion and it becomes bewildering. Most people lose patience and just give up on their support of a candidate and decide to just block out tv, news, websites, etc.

This surprisingly has had a huge suppressing movement and vote turnout issues.

Next, we infiltrate all the blogs and all the youtube videos and overwhelm the voting, the comments, etc. All to continue this appearance of overwhelming world support.

People makes posts to the effect that the world has “gone mad”

Thats the intention. To make you feel stressed and crazy and feel like the world is ending.

We have also had quite a hand in skewing many many polls, some we couldn’t control as much as we would have liked. But many we have spoiled over. Just enough to make real clear politics look scarey to a mccain supporter. Its worked, alough the goal was to appear 13-15 points ahead.

see, the results have been working. People tend to support a winner, go with the flow, become “sheeple”

The polls are roughly 3-5 points in favor of Barack. Thats due to our inflation of the polls and pulling in the sheeple.

Our donors, are the same people who finance the MSM. Their interests are tied, Barack then tends to come across as teflon. Nothing sticks. And trust, there were meetings with Fox news. The goal was to blunt them as much as possible. Watch Bill Oreilly he has become much more diplomatic and “fair and balanced” and soft. Its because he wants to retain the #1 spot on cable news and to do that he has to have access to the Obama campaign and we worked hard at stringing him a long and keeping him soft for an interview swap. It worked and now he is anticipating more access. So he is playing it still soft.

This is why nothing sticks.

The operation is massive, the goal is to paint a picture that is that of a winner, regardless of the results.

There is no true inauguration draft or true grant park construction going on. There will be a party, but we are boasting beyond the truth to make it seem like the election is wrapped up.

Our goal is to continue to make you lose your moral. We worked hard at persuasion and paying off and timing and playing the right political numbers to get key republican endorsements to make it seem even more like it was over and the world was coming to an end for you all.

There is a huge staff of people working around the clock, watching every site, blogs, etc. We flood these sites. We have had a goal to overwhelm.

The truth is here. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

I am saying this because I know HRC was better for the country, and now realize this. I was too late by the time I connected to her. To me Barack was just a cool young dude that seemed like a star. I didn’t know him or his policies, but now I understand more than I care to and I realize his interests are more for him, and the DNC and all working like puppets with dean. I always thought a president wanted the better good for the country. The end result I see is everyone dependent on the government, this means more and more people voting for the DNC. This means the future is forever altered. I don’t see this as america, so I am now supporting John Mccain.

Freedom will always succeed. The US was blessed by many natural resources, but we would also have blossomed on the moon. When you punish success, you get less. When you reward failure, you get more. And you can only "re"distribute the wealth ONCE. Then you have to make more wealth.

Quite true!

As for the Palis, it's interesting that they complained after Israel's War of Independence that Israel got all the good land and they got the barren/awful land.

The settlements in Judea and Samaria (and previously in Gaza) are/were beautiful, though. The idea of "bad land" didn't keep Israelis from making their parts of it beautiful. Even the Jewish communities on sand in Gaza were really lovely.

It's a frame of mind. When a people is handed what they have, they never have enough. When a people works for it, their love of accomplishment really makes the fruits of their efforts lovely and worthwhile.

If Obambi wins (G-d forbid), he will poison everybody (both those who get things for nothing and those who are robbed after having earned their wealth.)

re: #39 Grandma

You must be proud....heck, I am proud of your kids and I haven't even met them...

You are quite an individual and thanks for sharing a wonderful story full of truth and inspiration.

Can anyone explain why John McCain is planning on taxing our health care benefits? I don't understand this. Why? And I did a lot of research on this. Can anyone explain to me how McCain's $5000 rebate, which I understand will go directly to the insurance companies----which, as we know, hate to pay claims---will benefit me when I have a policy worth $13K? How?

Also, if I'm forced on to the open market, what insurance company will go near me, even for an exorbitant rate, with my pre-existing condition? What will McCain do for me if I'm told that my premium is $3000 per month and it explicitly rules out any coverage for anything related to the disease most likely to give me problems? How---and why---would a private, for-profit company help me in this situation?

I'm pretty angry about this. And I've personally gotten several friends and family members to contact McCain's campaign for some answers. None of them have been told anything except "Look at our website." and "Obama's lying. Don't trust him."

That's not good enough. I despise the Democrats, but I'm so pissed about McCain taxing my health care benefits---something vital to my life and my family---that I'm thinking of voting for Obama, or staying home, just to shove it back in McCain's face.

He's not a real conservative anyway. We should have never nominated this insurance company crony.

re: #124 JimCap

McCain’s health insurance proposal is certainly one of the weakest points of his platform.

Taxing company-paid insurance premiums as income on a 13K policy would result in an increase of about 4K on the taxes of “JimCap” – if his employer actually pays the entire premium amount. With a 5K tax credit, Mr. Jim Cap would come out about 1K ahead at the end of the year.

Most companies do not pay the full cost of health insurance, many pay nothing at all. In those cases the worker is already paying income tax on some or all of the money that goes to the health insurance premium. If Mr. Jim Cap is in this circumstance, the McCain proposal will put him ahead by up to 5K at the end of the year.

Of course buying health insurance as an individual is a losing proposition in almost all circumstances, as the premiums are considerably higher and the carriers generally exclude “pre-existing conditions”. This is the central flaw that is left unaddressed in the McCain proposal.

The McCain proposal only works well for people who already get health insurance through some kind of group affiliation – employers, clubs, associations, etc.
