Another 'Redistribution' Statement from Obama Surfaces

Politics | Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 12:32:16 pm PDT

He’s doing everything he can to downplay and disavow it now, but Barack Obama has been talking about the redistribution of wealth for quite a long time; since the beginning of his political career, in fact. Ed Morrissey links to an article from the March-April 1996 issue of “New Ground,” the official journal of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America—who endorsed Obama: New Ground 45 - Chicago Democratic Socialists of America.

One of the themes that has emerged in Barack Obama’s campaign is “what does it take to create productive communities”, not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the best instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left. He felt the state government has three constructive roles to play.

The first is “human capital development”. By this he meant public education, welfare reform, and a “workforce preparation strategy”. Public education requires equality in funding. It’s not that money is the only solution to public education’s problems but it’s a start toward a solution. The current proposals for welfare reform are intended to eliminate welfare but it’s also true that the status quo is not tenable. A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. While Barack Obama did not use this term, it sounded very much like the “social wage” approach used by many social democratic labor parties. By “workforce preparation strategy”, Barack Obama simply meant a coordinated, purposeful program of job training instead of the ad hoc, fragmented approach used by the State of Illinois today.

The state government can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs. As Barack Obama noted, when someone gets paid $10 million to eliminate 4,000 jobs, the voters in his district know this is an issue of power not economics. The government can use as tools labor law reform, public works and contracts.

Why stop there? Why not just guarantee everyone $100,000/year? That would solve everything, wouldn't it?

And you never will. Obama, as well as a number of Democrats now, and some RINOs, do not want everyone to prosper, and surely do not want us to win. You see, we are naught but plebs to their patrician sensibilities, and as such, must never be allowed to be as successful as they have been.

The Ø is a communist through and through. Redistribution is just the tasty candy shell over the chewy center. Next time you meet a moonbat, ask how much is in its wallet, and how much it is willing to redistribute to some nitwit on the street. When it names a tidy sum (as it will have to, in order to be a good little communist moonbat), tell it you're the nitwit, grab the whole wallet and run.

52 Sunlight  Tue, Oct 28, 2008 12:44:47pm

The issue with Obama is that he is dense. This redistribution stuff has been going on for years and doesn't make anything better. For example, in educational state 50 (or maybe we've moved up to 49) it has been shown that substantially more money is being (and has been) spent per capita (per student) in lower income areas than in higher income areas. And yet the achievement gap keeps getting worse and the drop out rate is astronomical in those areas (and not so great across the board). So the issue does not appear to respond well to $$$$ thrown at it, but probably requires a more tough love approach to getting families to keep their kids in school, give moral support to the importance of their education, etc. Actually, Obama would be a great advocate for that, but no, he's got his victim story and he's stickin' with it.

It's not that these statements have "surfaced". It's that they were there all along and the media was incurious to report on them. They could have reported on Obama's socialist predilections and associations - after all, in this instance he's getting an endorsement from the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America. They haven't.

They've chosen not to.

So, the job of uncovering this stuff is left to those who are intrepid enough to take on the job that journalists wont do.

Note too what Obama says about those in business and their ability to run companies. He clearly believes that the owners of businesses who make decisions to hire and fire and take salaries cannot be trusted to do so, and that the government should be the ones to impose economic justice on the situation.

That's socialism in a nutshell.

The media agrees with Obama. Marxists target specific areas of our society long ago. Entertainment, journalism, and education. It's taken 2-3 generations but's its paid off. Entertainment would be far worse off had it not be for Reagan as SAG President, exposing them and fighting them. Journalism and education had no Reagan to defend them.

re: #72 buzzsawmonkey

From the link:

This raises the question of whether Mr. Obama can in good faith take the presidential oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution" as he must do if he is to take office. Does Mr. Obama support the Constitution as it is written, or does he support amendments to guarantee welfare? Is his provision of a "tax cut" to millions of Americans who currently pay no taxes merely a foreshadowing of constitutional rights to welfare, health care, Social Security, vacation time and the redistribution of wealth? Perhaps the candidate ought to be asked to answer these questions before the election rather than after.

Every new federal judge has been required by federal law to take an oath of office in which he swears that he will "administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich." Mr. Obama's emphasis on empathy in essence requires the appointment of judges committed in advance to violating this oath. To the traditional view of justice as a blindfolded person weighing legal claims fairly on a scale, he wants to tear the blindfold off, so the judge can rule for the party he empathizes with most.

Liberal Media wonders if they are up to the job of adoring Obama as well as he deserves:

Countdown to the Obama Rapture

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say that the press corps is in the tank for Obama even if they're voting for him in overwhelming numbers. Obama irritates many of the reporters who cover him because he's so controlling and inaccessible. So they're not as much in love with Obama as they're in love with the idea of Obama, of the "meaning" of his run for the presidency, of the redemption he offers a sinful nation that scratched slavery into its liberty-loving Constitution.

WTF?

The leading Obama cheerleader among the commentariat is Newsweek's Jonathan Alter, whose "erection of the heart" for the candidate has no match. Alter sees the presidential election as a world referendum on the United States and "the common sense and decency of the American people." Obama symbolizes hope over fear, and his election would produce an "Obama Dividend" that would "blow the minds of people in the Middle East and other regions, and help restore American prestige." Obama, Alter continues, "knows how to think big, elevate the debate and transport the public to a new place."

Oh, Obama will blow all right, but not like you think.

Speaking of "redistribution," read this from the Wall Street Journal on how Obama, if elected, could re-make the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and what that would mean.

And shudder.

In some ways, this is at least as, or even more, important than the Supreme Court--because this court hears cases involving the operation of the Federal Government, and the Supreme Court takes only a fraction of the cases submitted, leaving the rest of the appeals decisions standing.

Read this.

Speaking in July 2007 at a conference of Planned Parenthood, he said: "[W]e need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges."

One would be localized and do little to fundamentally change the country. In 1992, he was Director of Illinois Project Vote, a voter registration campaign that made Carol Moseley Braun's election to the U.S. Senate much easier than it would have been. At present, he practices law in Judson Miner's law firm and is President of the board of the Annenberg Challenge Grant which is distributing some $50 million in grants to public school reform efforts.

Obama is the payoff for their preserving.

I agree, of course. Regarding the original question -- why is this coming out only now -- my reply assumed that we out here would have been doing the digging, not the MSM. I should have made that clear.

What if a conservative blogger had been "on to" the Alinsky Machine years ago? What if this stuff (and who knows how much more is there, waiting to be discovered) was in that someone's data vault this time last year? What if it had been put out before the primaries?

REDISTRIBUTION:
After retaking the island of Guam, the United States government in 1948 negotiated a settlement with the islanders following the total destruction of the islands livelihood (coconuts). This subsidy was to paid for 20 years, the length of time it took to bring a coconut grove to maturity. In 1968, the subsidy expired, this is one generation of people not working, not being productive, and being on the government dole. In 1967, all the labor done in Guam was done by Philippines, in 1968 they were replaced on a ratio of 5:1 with Guamanians. I cannot speak as to how the economy of Guam has progressed since 1970, but at that time it was in shambles due to the citizens of Guam being on a government REDISTRIBUTION. Any time in a democracy, the citizens discover they can vote themselves on the take from the government, the democracy has failed.

A comparison: Which would be more damaging to this country known as the USA?
A direct nuclear attack on a major American city?
Or, 4 years of unfettered communist/left wing rule?
One would be localized and do little to fundamentally change the country. The other will rot the foundations of the Republic and make the principles of the Founding Fathers a forgotten idea not even mentioned in school textbooks, with an unrecognizable document as the new constitution, and the old constitution villified as a racist capitolist abomination.

apples and oranges. both awful & bad.

Here's a profile of Obama from Democracy Now! in 2004.

It's an interview with an editor from the leftist magazine In These Times. Obama is immediately described as "unflinchingly progressive."

"He'll speak before Jewish audience and talk about his problems with Israeli policy in a way that inspires trust."

re: #52 Sunlight

You are correct, of course but the great disadvantage we suffer is that you can't fit your analysis on a bumper sticker.....and that's what we need to do to get the attention of the large number of unengaged people out there. We need to distill our concepts down.....something along the lines of "I never got a job from a poor person" - profoundly simple but probably needs to be word-smithed to take the percieved sting out of it......

Hehehehe. I've lived in a Socialist country or two in my time on this mortal coil. The sheeple are in for a rude awakening. The medical RATIONING, aka universal health care, isn't very quick about handling your aches and pains and it ain't free. Every appliance and convenience is taxed to the hilt, for example, in Belgium, the number of complete toilet and bath units in a house get taxed. Television sets and radios are taxed. All kinds of privacy raping home and property inspections are done to assess tax revenues. Game shows don't award "A brand new CAR!", instead, you get "a brand new SOCCER BALL" because the luxury taxes will sink a middle class working stiff.

On the bright side, garage sales will make you some serious $$$ because used goods tend not to be taxed, unless the "Dear leader" changes that, if elected.

It's not the size of government although that is a factor. It's not even the corruption as politics attracts the corrupt or taints even the most pure with a corrupting influence.

The thing that will bring democracy and even a republic low is the ENTITLEMENT mentality that grows from big corrupt government.

Once that mentality is established those who vote for it demand more and more and their numbers grow until democracy collapses under the weight of entitlements. Then the normal routine kicks in and a tyrant gains power until he's overthrown in rivers of blood and democracy climbs back out of the mire.

Such is the cycle of history. Why does the US think it's any different from any other democracy in history?

THAT is exactly what happened in Australia when the Federal government tried unsuccessfully to rip guns from warm fingers of its citizens a decade ago.

There were even schemes whereby high powered weapons were handed in for cash. Thousands of old rusty rifles appeared the $$$ were taken and nice shiny new shotguns were purchased. Much to the chagrin of the left.

They kept muttering " but ... but... it wasn't supposed to work that way'!

Meanwhile the REAL guns were buried all over the place.

The ACORN doesn't fall too far form the tree:

Like Father, Like Son

Election '08: Barack Obama's economic blueprint sounds like one his communist father tried to foist on Kenya 40 years ago, with massive taxes and succor shrouded as "investments."

As a Nairobi bureaucrat, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. advised the pro-Western Kenyan government there to "redistribute" income through higher taxes. He also demonized corporations and called for massive government "investment" in social programs.

Barack Obama Sr., who died in 1982 at age 46 in a Kenya car crash.
Writing in a 1965 scholarly paper, Obama's late father slammed the administration of then-President Jomo Kenyatta for moving the Third World country away from socialism toward capitalism. He chafed at the idea of relying on private investors — who earn "dividends" on their venture capital — to develop the country's fledgling economy.

"What is more important is to find means by which we can redistribute our economic gains to the benefit of all," said the senior Obama, a Harvard-educated economist. "This is the government's obligation." The "means" he had in mind were confiscatory taxes on a scale that redefines the term "progressive taxation."

"Theoretically," he wrote, "there is nothing that can stop the government from taxing 100% of income so long as the people get benefits from the government commensurate with their income which is taxed."

Hope for whom? Liberation for whom?

Here is the point that a few pundits have made. BHO has never lied about this; it's how he really feels. To tell the truth on someone is NOT negative campaigning --it's letting people know where he really stands.

There's a way this can be pitched to the electorate so that it does not appear to be finger-pointing, but as a way of McCain and the GOP distinguishing themselves from the Dems--all of them.

Hell, Howard (the Duck) Dean even said today that "one-party" rule would rock. The GOP under Bush never really had one-party rule. The Dems controlled the Senate from the summer of 2001 until November 2002--and that wasn't by much. The GOP controlled both houses from late 2002 through 2006--and they did not have a super majority. What Dr. Dean is looking for is a true one-party power block--like in the USSR or China. This is the point which needs to be hammered for the next 6 days!

I found that yesterday. I also found another of a multitude of radical leftist groups and foundations in BHO's career.

GAMALIEL FOUNDATION (GF)

Obama's McKnight In Shining Armor
Excerpt:

Obama waited five years to apply to Harvard. As WorldNetDaily reports, from 1985 to 1988, he worked for a subsidiary of the Chicago-based Gamaliel Foundation, founded on the principles of Saul "The Red" Alinsky. He worked as a consultant and trainer. On the board of Gamaliel sat Northwestern University professor John L. McKnight, a student of Alinsky's radical tactics. While at Gamaliel, McKnight became Obama's mentor in community organizing.

As we have noted, when Obama worked for Gamaliel, he was paid by the Woods Foundation, which supported the radical group. Obama would later serve on the Woods Foundation board with terrorist and socialism advocate William Ayers. McKnight schooled young Obama in the gospel according to Alinsky. He apparently saw much promise in the budding politician, a way to advance Alinsky's radical socialist agenda into the highest levels in government.
[snip]
Being tutored by McKnight and other Alinsky disciples, Obama said while campaigning in Iowa last year, was "the best education I ever had, better than anything I got at Harvard Law School."

Shortly before Obama entered Harvard, he praised McKnight and his organizing principles in an article titled "After Alinsky: Community Organizing in Illinois." In it, he called for more "power" to put in place "a systematic approach to community organization." Power seems to be a recurring theme with Obama.

At Harvard, Obama took advanced training courses at the Industrial Areas Foundation, a group founded by Alinsky and associated with Gamaliel.

229 abolitionist  Tue, Oct 28, 2008 2:19:35pm

More:
Like Obama's 20 year association with TUCC/Wright, there's a Teflon™ cloak of religiosity around the Gamaliel Foundation.

Obama has long been linked—through foundation grants, shared polticial activism, collaboration on legislation and tactics, and mutual praise and support—with the Chicago-based Gamaliel Foundation, one of the least known yet most influential national umbrella groups for church-based “community organizers.”
—Stanley Kurtz, National Review, September 1, 2008, p. 32

THE GAMALIEL FOUNDATION’S FAITH AND DEMOCRACY PLATFORM Snippet:

We have a vision for our country that is based on radical hope, inclusive community, and shared abundance for all.

That does not sound exactly flat-out communism, does it? Well try this bit, from the link near the bottom:
The Vision of the Gamaliel Foundation

We claim the value of a sacred community over isolating individualism. We further claim that each person has the right and responsibility to make the sacred community a reality.

Got that? Individualism is a BAD thing.

More:

Therefore, Gamaliel has structured itself to effect the systemic changes necessary to advance the values we have claimed. People with faith in a good and just God and people who share these values will organize through Gamaliel to bring about shared abundance, sacred community, unrelenting hope, equal opportunity and justice within our communities and throughout the world.

What was that one piece of legistation Obama got passed as a US Senator? Something about a worldwide welfare program subsidised by the USA, iirc.
