UNRWA denies all

David Tell of the Weekly Standard has been highly critical of UNRWA, the UN organization that administers Palestinian refugee camps in Jenin and elsewhere. Well, UNRWA has noticed that people are catching on, and they’ve finally decided to do something about the terrorists and anti-Israel incitement in their camps.

They’re writing letters of denial.

Paul McCann, chief of the Public Information Office at UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza, wrote a weaselly letter to David Tell that (among other bald-faced lies) makes this jaw-dropping claim:

UNRWA is scrupulous about protecting its installations against misuse by any person or group. Only once, in Lebanon in 1982, has there been credible evidence of such misuse by Palestinians, and it was promptly dealt with.

David Tell’s reply to McCann is a must-read. I’ll just quote the first sentence:

DAVID TELL RESPONDS: Should The Weekly Standard remain a going concern for another hundred years, it is almost inconceivable that we will ever again have occasion to publish anything nearly so dishonest as the letter above.
