Quislings.

2 Perplexed  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:42:43am

Way past time for the press to be held accountable for their actions.

3 jetprop  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:43:01am

Dang. Wish I could be there.

Hopefully someone will be taking photos.

4 CIA Reject  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:43:03am

If this tape were about the details of a classified terrorist surveillance program the LAT would have released it months ago.

FREE THE TAPE!

5 ugh!  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:43:22am

The McCain campaign should file an emergency motion for a preliminary injunction to compel release of the tape. It's a win-win. If the tape is released, it's bad for Obama. If the Times resists, it's bad for Obama. Either way, it garners the most publicity.

6 Charles  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:43:32am

Now if you quote Obama's own words, you're labeled a "conspiracy theorist".

10pm Pacific and it's in the morning? A rare mistake, Charles.

That having been said, I hope the protest draws enough attention to get some news coverage. We need to keep this story alive.

9 FurryOldGuyJeans  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 8:45:19am

Freedom of the Press doesn't mean Freedom from Ethics. The MSM has become an insurgent and seditious force of its own.

Good luck.

Quislings.

Quislings? Too vague and requires some historical knowledge.

Try:

Sellouts
Traitors
Dog in a manger
Slept with a buddies wife/gf
Rat bastards
Cowards
Anti-Americans
Commies

Those might begin to reflect what the presstitutes really are during this election cycle.

So much for objective journalism.

Never has been just a critter. There has always been bias and there will always be bias in reporting, and journalism by its very nature and defintion, as opposed to reporting, is bias writ large. There always has been and always will be, implicitly or explicitly, an agenda lurking in whatever a human being reports about something.

LA Times, what you've got here is a classic ethical dilemma. Either decision results in good and bad.
1) Release the video and lose confidentiality cred.
2) Hold the video and lose consumer confidence cred.
But consider this. By holding the video, not only will you be rightly and blatantly accused of media bias but even more importantly - you are setting a standard for acceptable behavior for the past life of the president of the United States of America! How you can rationalize that choice #2 is the more ethical decision is beyond reason!

I still have my 3-day weekend LA Times subscription. I've thought about canceling, but there are no other local alternatives. The LA Daily News just endorsed Obama, and doesn't give a hoot about the tapes, either. By habit or addiction, I have to read a morning paper...

Wall St Journal is a pretty decent rag - most of the time. Keeping your subscription to the Times out of a habit just feeds the beast. Only thing good about the Times is their sports page and you can get that online.

Hmmmm..mumble grumble grumble!

These people obviously do not have much experience arranging protests.

Many errors were made.

First of all -- 10am? What the hell? Folks, you've got to arrange it when people can get off work to be there! You simply NEEDED to have it during the lunch hour (12-noon - 1pm) or after work (5:30 is a good time, because it's still light).

Most McCain voters are employed. Therefore, they can't show up at this rally. Big mistake in the timing.

Second error: they don't give an ending time. Terrible! You not only have to say when it starts, you have to say when it ends. Because not everyone will be able to show up at 10am sharp. But if they don't know when the rally ends, they're much less likely to commit the time to show up, not knowing whether or not it will be over when they get there. You NEED to say "10am-12noon" or whatever, to get the most people.

Third: The organizers don't really explain who they are. It's a little hard to decipher from the Web site. And they didn't get any co-endorsements. People are much less likely to show up at an event only sponsored by a single group with no known track record.

Fourth: They needed to have a separate page for the event listing -- not just on the main page of their site. Makes it seems very odd that way.

Fifth: The entire organization seems to have been founded around the idea of having a protest march against Obama after he's been elected. Why good will that do? Absolutely nothing! What an idiotic idea.

All in all, I'm pretty disappointed in the arrangements for this protest. I think we NEED to have a protest over the video, I just don't think it was put together very well, frankly.

Try Poland. I think it's the national sport. Leap-frogging, at 80 miles an hour, on two lane roads, with lorries as wide as the lane, you have to slip out into on coming traffic lane to see if you can pass.

We're not used to taking to the streets yet.

Give us a year or two under an Obama regime and our pitchforks will be sharp and our torches will be ready at a minutes notice.

Obama, there's a HUGE difference between "inasmuch as ye have done FOR the least of these my brethren" and "inasmuch as ye have done UNTO the least of these my brethren". Check the context. Try Poland. I think it's the national sport. Leap-frogging, at 80 miles an hour, on two lane roads, with lorries as wide as the lane, you have to slip out into on coming traffic lane to see if you can pass.

I had a private driver once, in north east Poland. Honestly, scared the shit out of me all day. And it was cloudy, wet and snowing.

If I remember correctly, Poland has the most per capita car realted deaths in all of Europe.

Never has been just a critter. There has always been bias and there will always be bias in reporting, and journalism by its very nature and defintion, as opposed to reporting, is bias writ large. There always has been and always will be, implicitly or explicitly, an agenda lurking in whatever a human being reports about something.

You are correct about there always being a bias. But I think the MSM tried to be objective, or at least hide the bias, until this election cycle.

My wife is not the news junkie I am. As she watched the election through my eyes this time she was stunned at the bias. There were so many obvious examples this cycle you could convince anyone with a reasonably open mind that the press was against McCain and Palin.

The MSM is not going to die after this election. But they are going to be repositioned when it comes to credibility. I think the major newspapers and networks are going to be lumped in the Fox and talk radio going forward. Because, as you pointed out, they always were biased and now everyone knows it.

Rodney King: a fine example of why the notion that wealth can be "spread" is insane:

If you’re not a news junkie you probably didn’t notice that Rodney King was arrested again. He was speeding at 100 miles an hour, high on PCP, when he ran a red light in Rialto, California on August 27. It is just a matter of luck that King hasn’t killed someone yet. This was his fifth arrest since a kangaroo court awarded him $3.8 million some years ago because the LAPD had “violated his civil rights.” Or perhaps it was because the court was afraid that rejecting King’s claim would spark another riot that would kill 58 people and cost the city $16 billion in destroyed homes and stores.

One of King’s post-riot arrests was for beating his wife, just in case you thought he was a nice guy harassed by police simply because he was black.

Apparently, in addition to going to jail again, Rodney King is now broke. Which is one of the reasons you haven’t heard much about his latest bust. Because the post-riot life of Rodney King gives the lie to virtually every liberal nostrum for improving society, eradicating poverty and making us all equal.

There has until recently not been all that much of a need to hide the bias since the media spoke largely with one voice and opinion. Only with the rise of the internet and the new media has the bias become apparent to more and more people as it has been exposed.

This election cycle has had a large shift, though, and that is largely due to the exposure of the prior bias having an influence.

The curious mentality of an Obamaniacs can be seen in this online poll at a pro-Obama blog:

Will Barack Obama be allowed to be President of the United States?

1. Yes, he is too popular and visable. 25%
2. No. The white man will never allow it. 63%
3. Unsure. 11%

For Obama supporters, it really is about race & racism. Yet I have never heard even one McCain supporter say he or she was opposed to Obama because of his race.

I suggest we do a little poll, here:

In order of importance, what are your reasons for opposing Obama?

1. His values/character/integrity
2. His foreign policy
3. His economic policy
4. His lack of relevant experience
5. His race

For me, the top reasons are, in order of importance: 1, 2, 3 & 4.

It was a fundraiser for the Arab American Action Network (AAAN) at the Burbank Manor Banquet Hall--which is smack dab in the middle of the Arab-American community on the southwest suburbs of Chicago. They had just published a Needs Assement of the community, and this acted as a launch for that as well. The unintended advantage of an Obama presidency (chas v'sholom) ending the "special relationship" between the US and Israel is that it might force some of the Israelis with moonbat tendencies back towards reality.

But there would still be a horrific price to pay.

Then again, it might have the opposite effect. There is a perversity in leftist thought such that, when faced with hard reality, the left is apt to go into a suicidal spasm.

It is nothing but insane to say that Obama is a committed Zionist.

Speaking for myself, the reason I have always been intrigued by Jews love affair with collectivism (be it fascism, socialism, communism) is that they tend to be the first course when the cannibalism starts

I have also never understood their deep distrust of evangelical Christians either considering most of the movements which targeted Jews in the last few hundred years have not been religiously motivated and that devote Christians were often the second or third course at the collectivist feasts.

I only recently learned about the whole "repair the world" think. It only partly explains the first question and does nothing for the second.

If it is true, it can be accounted for by the inroads liberalism has made in the Jewish community, coupled with the reflexive Democratic/anti-Republican vote pattern ingrained in retirees who grew up during the Depression and still think fondly of Roosevelt.

How about this for an idea:

Tell the LA Times that the tape actually has a number of very explicit clues that could uncover a secret CIA operation designed to thwart an Al Queda attack. Tell them that, if they release the tape, there's a strong possibility it will put the lives of U.S. agents and soldiers in substantial jeopardy.

The chance of helping our enemy would be far too great a temptation for them. They'd leave burnout marks, they'd release the tape so fast.

I am highly sensitive because of my belief that these quick desires (even among friends) to jump to the Jews, is a subtle Anti-Semtism. How? The entire Country seems to be going for Obama, yet people still concentrate on Jews.

It's funny because four years ago he emerged as a supporter of Bush. In fact he mocked Jews who were driven to vote Democratic regardless of the candidate! (Even recently he was horrified of the idea of Secretary of State Kerry, for most of the reasons stated in the article in 2004.)

What I don't get is why he thinks that Sen. Obama would be less inclined to give the UN veto power over the U.S.'s foreign policy than Sen. Kerry would?

Sort of like what happened in Rhodesia once Mugabe took power. For the ONE to succeed he'll have to find someone to blame for all of the bad things happening to America. re: #199 turn

I read somewhere that the Jewish vote in Florida is going something like 75% Obama. Is this true and if so can some prominent Lizards please explain to me how this can possibly be considering O's fondness for the Palestinian "cause".

Its a form of mental disorder called Democratism;i.e the belief in the Party as a form of religion.
The origin was at the time of the Great Depression, when the Right in America spawned the American Firsters and other groups which manifested active and even violent displays of overt Jew hatred.
Jews flocked to the liberalism of the Democratic Party, and with much justification.

Although times and party cultures has changed, the off-spring of these stalwart, mostly secular or Reform Jewish,Democrats have been inculcated with a religious-like belief in this Creed, which, since it is based on faith, transcends reason.
I know a number of Jewish professionals who are voting for Obama, despite the fact that it is not in their economic interest to do so, and that they are unsettled by Obama's fellow travelers such as Wright and Khalidi.
I spoke to a lawyer yesterday who stalked away from me in anger when I told her that Jews ran from the Socialism of Russia and ironically, their grandchildren are supporting its rise here by voting for Obama.
She said that Jews must for Obama for the future of "our children."

325 jester6  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 10:25:22am

re: #307 WrathofG-d

No need to apologize. I was only offering my comment to let you know there are many people who ask the question out of good will and genuine interest.

I have always been intrigued with what one might call Jewish exceptionalism. Here is a group of people who throughout history have had more impact and been more successful then perhaps any other group. From a purely objective standpoint, the number of Jews who are leaders in their chosen field today is fair more then should be expected given their proportion in the population.

I am not very religious so I don't believe God is behind it. I also do not believe in genetic predetermination. So I have always been interested in learning what cultural or behavioral elements drive this.

I know full well many people make the same observations I do and end up believing in some complex theory involving black helicopters, the new world order, Jewish bankers etc. But long before the Greeks knew they could blame the Jews they made up a story about a god in a chariot pulling the sun across the sky to explain something they could not understand. People still make up crazy theories to explain things they cannot understand today - be it global trade or the electoral process.

I certainly appreciate, but might not quite understand, your concerns about antisemitism. If it is any comfort though, sometimes a question is just a question and ignorance is just ignorance - no antisemitism involved.

On another note, on Glenn Beck this AM I heard Obama's call for a Civilian Security Force. It seemed he squeezed it in, with little pause during applause, right after talking about the need to expand the Peace Corps, or something like that.

If that's not an example of the "razor in the apple" or the "candy coated enema hose", I don't know what is.

re: #119 zombie

Agree, but perhaps it should be considered baby steps to bigger and better. An initial crack in complacency.

My guess is that at some point Cooper raised capital and ended up with some outside directors on his board. The CEO of a gun company giving money to a "gun grabber" is very bad for business.

A few years ago Colt decided to go along with a gun control proposal from the Clinton administration and the company was nearly destroyed. If they did not have the exclusive right to make M4s for the US military I doubt they would still be in business. Cooper does not sell the type of guns that would be bought by the government.

Wasn't the mysterious 1960's hijacker who bailed out with millions and was never found named Dan Cooper?

I only knew him as DB Cooper but according to Wiki he went by Dan on the plane.

In any event, I am fond of saying guns are bigger then God when it comes to politics in this country.

- More people own guns then attend regular religious services.
- There are four guns for every gun owning household.
- Gun owners are more likely to be single issue voters than anyone else - including registered party members and abortion minded voters.

Come out against gun rights and you lose a 3 or 5 percent block of swing voters. If Obama goes after guns in his first term the Dems in the House will pay for it in 2010 just like they did in 1994 after Clinton's Assault Weapon Ban.

If the la times can not release the tape, they probably can release a transcript of what was said.

Are there any lawyers here who know whether or not the LAT could be formally prosecuted for supressing information that could very well be critical to our Nations' security?

The MSM has become an insurgent and seditious force of its own.

It most certainly has.
