As Charles upgrades his website systems, ACORN has been working on upgrading from a community activist group to a political force. It's been in the works for years, but they're getting more vocal and are pushing to dominate in New York.

They established the Working Families Party with that goal in mind, and their ground game is pushing to dominate in the city and state.

FCC Probe Signals Democratic Attack Machine

A Federal Communications Commission investigation of on-air military analysts is providing a glimpse of what Democrats and an Obama administration will do to critics once they capture Washington.

The FCC has sent letters to some of the nation's most prominent military analysts -- some of them pro-President Bush and pro-war -- suggesting they may have broken the law when they appeared on television stations to comment on and explain the war on terrorism.

The FCC investigation raises the question of whether a Democrat-controlled Congress and White House next year will investigate -- and perhaps criminalize -- all sorts of actions taken by the Bush administration. Obama is leading in all presidential polls, while Democrats are set to greatly increase their hold on the House and Senate.

The FCC letters came at the behest of two House Democrats, who say the analysts parroted on air the private briefings they received at the Pentagon. This may have broken the law, the lawmakers said.

/are we having fun yet?

In case anyone's interested:

Remember my essay yesterday about Obama and the Weather Underground? Remember how tantalizing yet incomplete and somewhat disappointing it seemed?

Well, erase that memory from your mind!

Because I have now just finished an extensive and thorough revision of the entire thing! Every suggestion for improving it that everyone made to me was implemented; dozens and dozens of new jaw-dropping links added; and an entirely new last section that completely changes the whole tenor of the report. All those things that you wish I had done are now there.

Anyway, I highly recommend taking a fresh look at it! :

OK, here's a rumor from over at Lucianne.

(So, take it for what it's worth.)
The word is that it isn't the words 0bama says that are so damning.
It isn't his reaction to other people bashing Israel either.
The word is that something ''uniquely Muslim'' happens and 0bama slips into the ritual easily and naturally.
Was it a prayer?
Was it an intonation of certain verses?
I don't know.

CBS appears to slime soldiers: Alarming Sex Assault Rate Found Among Vets

For a soldier, the wounds of war can be felt long after a tour of duty ends, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports, and not all of them are inflicted by the enemy. Tuesday, researchers reported that an alarming number of female soldiers have sought treatment for sexual assault committed by fellow soldiers.

A Veterans Administration study found that one in seven female veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan seeking medical care from the VA suffered sexual trauma - everything from harassment to rape.

Medical records of 125,000 war veterans, both men and women, showed 15 percent reported sexual trauma. That works out to nearly 2,600 veterans, almost all women.

Notice that the sentence in bold doesn't assert that the "one in seven females" were "seeking medical care" BECAUSE OF sexual trauma, but that one in seven "suffered sexual trauma - everything from harassment to rape." Maybe the sentence is just poorly written, but it could also be that CBS is trying to pull a fast one, making it seem that one in seven of medical visits by females were because of sexual trauma.

First, how are they defining "harassment?" And it's ludicrous to put harassment in the same category as rape.

Something smells about the CBS story.

re: #14 Kosh's Shadow

I've got my doubts about that. Nuclear detonations underground have specific characteristics that naturally occurring quakes don't. There are ways to tell them apart. That's how the US knew what the North Koreans were up to and how they figured that the North's underground tests were a fizzle or an incomplete test.

How do we know this? Because we figured out how to detect Soviet nuclear tests by their seismic signatures.

We would know what the Iranians were up to if they detonated a nuke test underground.

This is likely part of the puffery by the Iranian mullahs to further shape the media battlefield and propagandize. They've repeatedly lied about their capabilities, even though they are pushing towards full nuclear capabilities. I just don't think that they're quite there yet.

Formed in 1998 by the auto- and communications-workers unions and the Acorn community group, the Working Families Party started out pushing for labor- and immigrant-friendly measures, like a so-called living wage, in the city, Suffolk and Westchester Counties. But it soon began using its cadre of canvassers and organizers in carefully chosen political races — mainly primaries — with noticeable effect.

They're using ACORN's built in ground game to expand their political reach.

I witnessed an uncomfortable scene in the kitchen area at my workplace yesterday. Two coworkers started talking about who they intended to vote for; one was for Obama, the other for McCain. The woman who was voting Obama kept saying that he (Obama) reminds her Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan!..Obama, she said, makes her feel proud to be American. She seemed to have no knowledge of any issues, as far as I could tell she was simply moved by his rhetoric and his style. The woman who was voting McCain kept saying that Obama isn't even an American citizen, and kept repeating the name Obama and Osama and saying, "sounds like a terrorist to me".

Both of these women sounded like complete idiots. It was disgusting to hear. I couldn't even bring myself to interject. I just walked out of the room.

Why would Barack Milhous Nobama lapsing into something uniquely muslim turn off a vast # of American voters? The MSM has made sure most people think it's the RoP, saying otherwise is racist. Bambi joining in one of their totally benign rituals (slitting a goat's throat or something) would only prove what a citizen of the world he is.

re: #58 lawhawk

I agree with you; that's why I called for the 24-hour rule. However, I haven't heard anything from the US about this. It might mean that we know it was an earthquake, but it might also mean that we are still analyzing data, or declassifying the results.
And with Olmerde still PM of Israel, until the next election, now that Livni said she can't get a coalition, they might not say either, even though they'd also know.

Here's a little Didy from one of my co-workers enjoy!

'Twas the night before elections and all through the town

Tempers were flaring, emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe with a cat in my lap

Had cut off the TV, tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden there arose such a noise

I peered out of my window saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet they wanted my pay

To give to the others who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money and quick as a wink

Jumped back on his bandwagon as I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen who were pulling his cart

I could tell they were out to tear my country apart!

¡On Fannie, on Freddie, On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi' He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause and as he flew out of sight

I heard him laugh at the nation who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think on this one final note-

IF YOU DON¢T WANT SOCIALISM GET OUT AND VOTE!

That kind of reminds me of this (the last sentance anyway):

It's true that most Americans, when asked by pollsters, think that it's emphatically not the government's job to redistribute wealth. But are people so stupid as to not recognize that when politicians talk about a "right to health care," or "equalizing educational opportunities," or "making the rich pay a fair share of taxes," or "ensuring that all Americans have the means to go to college," and so forth and so on, that they are advocating the redistribution of wealth? Is it okay for a politician to talk about the redistribution of wealth only so long as you don't actually use phrases such as "redistribution" or "spreading the wealth," in which case he suddenly becomes "socialist"? If so, then American political discourse, which I never thought to be especially elevated, is in even a worse state than I thought.

Dear Election Party Guests:

Bad news here – XXX has just been diagnosed with Strep Throat and I’ve got a 100.2 temperature. Since Strep is a highly contagious, I’m calling off the party.

I’m really sorry.

We had 104 people coming to the party – more than a quorum. I had hoped you could meet new likeminded locals from groups you don’t frequent or know much about. I was to be a diverse group: politicos, wannabe politicos, a couple CC school board members, a poll Meister and a handful of people from Little Green Footballs, a conservative political blog ([Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

You may want to join the election-day party at the Biltmore. Rumor has it that McCain will not be there, though.

Anyway, I apologize profusely. Please spread the word that the party is “OFF.”

Thanks,

XXX

re: #74 Ringo the Gringo

Is this what we've become, a nation of morons?

Wow, that is really shallow. The turnspawn and juniorturnspawn have a better grasp on the issues than your co-workers it seems. My 17 year old has really surprised me this election, he is asking my opinion on (and debating with me) on the California propositions. I've convinced him state bonds are a bad idea generally, something like if these huge projects aren't being considered by private industry then they aren't feasible financially and the taxpayer (you and I) end up paying higher taxes as a result. He's got a pretty good grasp about what having more money means. Ha!

Since this is the open thread.........
After seeing brief tidbits of (the ones) infomercial yesterday, I had insomnia from my veins contracting every time I hear his lies.
So I watched C-span and The 2008 election debate held at Regent College.
Goodguys: Huckabee, Forbes, Santorum
Moonbats: Colmes, Donna Brazil, Ferraro.

This had to be the most lopsided butt whooping I have seen in a long time.
Can't necessarily say that the Libbys had a brain trust up there, so maybe it was not fair.....

But just simple questions about taxation, socialism, lack of experience, etc, showed that the Dem candidate is ill equipped...and no one could prove otherwise.
Colmes actually threw up (figuratively) that since Obama ran his own campaign....he is well qualified.
Santorums question of more taxation creating less revenue being "fair" went unanswered by the moonie side. In fact too many questions went unanswered by the moonie side. However, every question was answered by Ferraro in her liberal NY twang talking about her grandkids (happy to pay higher taxes for them), talking about her husband, talking about her experience.......I was close to stabbing ice picks in my ears.

Greatest outcomes.....Brazil shown to be out of touch, unable to answer questions matter of factly...only emotionally......Colmes shown to be the rambling whiner he is and all three of them had no answer other than "you owe it to america" to face higher taxes.
Couldn't even admit that tax cuts spur the economy and create more tax revenues.......had to redirect to "yes, but the deficits increased".....

Unbridled moonbattiness.

Man...such an easy choice when you look at the right side of that panel and the left side.....

Hey all y'all - I posted this towards the end of the prior thread and, since I gotta go eat some lunch and do some more chores, I wanted to re-post it in case nobody's made the point in this thread:

Right now THE ISSUE IS THE ECONOMY. Who's gonna get taxed, where's the tax money gonna go, how badly are small businesses gonna get whacked with increased taxes AND with Obama's "You WILL provide Health Care Benefits to your employees or we WILL FINE you (amount of fine unspecified)". Once folks FINALLY figure out that no matter how much dough they make, they are gonna ALL be less well off economically under Obama, either by paying higher taxes or losing their jobs, McCain wins BIG.
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day and that I get the chance to see you all down the road (and pray Charles gets that upgraded web server set up and provisions it before election day/evening!).

There is a massive group of don't-key-my-car McCain/Palin voters in the background. and they aren't very happy.

Competence, in this case, has been understood as a personal attack on Charles' ability to run this website, which many here respect. When taken this way your comment has a very sarcastic and condescending tone. Naturally, this has upset some people.

An excellent analysis of Obama in the wake of Marcuse at Jewish Indy.

It lays out how Obama's brand of leftism allows him to make any promise and not be bound to it, and how the Left sees such as a sign of intellectual greatness.

Examples from Obama's writings and recent "flip flops" cited.

And one Marcusian principle from Repressive Tolerance is stressed - that "change" only creates more repression unless it is truly revolutionary.

In other words, anything Obama represents himself as now is completely changeable after election day. And his promise of change means a promise of revolution.

Republicans (even this one) are for:

1. Energy independence
2. Lower Taxes
3. Smaller govt.
4. A strong national defense
5. Policies that reward a work ethic

The Democrats (especially this one) are for, basically, the opposite.

Johnny Mac is not an inspiring speaker (usually), but he is getting better. Johnny Mac's biography is very inspiring.

BHO is an inspiring orator. His biography is shameful.

To me, it's a clear decision, but the moode to "toss the bums out" is almost overwhelming. It's a long-shot for JSM to win.

Many pardons if you have seen this, but The Telegraph article on Frank Davis

“He knew Stan [Obama's granddaddy] real well,” said Dawna Weatherly-Williams, a close friend of Mr Davis "he and Stan would smoke pot together.”

While his mother was in Indonesia during part of his teenage years, Mr Obama lived with his white grandparents. Mrs Weatherly-Williams said that the poet was first introduced to the future Democratic presidential candidate in 1970 at the age of 10.

[Davis] stated that “under certain circumstances I am bisexual” and that he was “ a voyeur and an exhibitionist” who was “occasionally mildly interested in sado-masochism”

On other occasions, Mr Davis would cruise in Hawaii parks looking for couples or female tourists to have sex with.

Obama loses two points, McCain gains four, within the last week

The race has tightened in part because of changes in a couple of important swing voting groups. Independents back Obama by 5 percentage points today, down from a 9-point edge last week. Similarly, among white Catholics, Obama held an 11-point edge over McCain last week and today they split 46-46.

Her exact quote:

"If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it's not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets."

Some past quotes of Miz. Jong:

"The record shows that voting machines in America are rigged."

"My friends Ken Follett and Susan Cheever are extremely worried. Naomi Wolf calls me every day. Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can't cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves."

That just breaks my heart for poor Hanoi Jane.

"Bush has transformed America into a police state, from torture to the imprisonment of reporters, to the Patriot Act."

Let us not forget that Miss Zipless was a staunch Hillary supporter and said this back in May:

Despite his penchant for saying “sweetie” to shut women up, Barack Obama does seem more likable than Hillary Clinton. But so what?

The press loved frat boy George W. Bush and hated nerdy Al Gore eight years ago. And look what we got? Endless war, economic meltdown, torture, a bigoted Supreme Court, the destruction of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, a desecrated planet. One of the lead stories over at thePajamas Media home page:

Ten Reasons Why McCain Doesn’t Have a Prayer by Rick Moran

Gee, thanks, Rick.

I'm guessing he is wrong on his assessment.

For the very reasons he says people are going to vote for Obama, I see people going for McCain. He is another of those writers obsessed with polls, taking comfort or despair in cold hard numbers when in reality it is people that make the election and he is just not considering emotions and their impact on peoples votes.

Three of the last four reasons he cites are all financial in nature and even though the public may be blaming the current administration, the reality is most people are acutely aware that Barack Obama and his administration will not help in any way, instead leading us, possibly irretrievably into a financial quagmire. In great economic times, Americans may be willing to gamble on the economic experimentation's of an OBama administration, but this isn't the time.

I really don't understand the hostility here. I don't believe I have hit anyone over the head. I posted links and you decided to read the information and found it lacking. Okay. I find it credible as have others with far more expertise than me. If you could tell me a little bit about your background in literature it might help me to determine whether I should throw out the analysis of Bruce Heiden professor of Greek and Latin at Ohio State in favor of your opinion.

It's just that it has been explained over and over by the 'higher ups in charge here = Charles', that this is a bogus story and it is useless to push it. I, personally, in my almost 2 years of being here have RARELY / if ever seen Charles wrong on a single issue, or if there is new information that comes to light on a credible story, he is the first to make an update on it, or full on say that it was wrong information and it should be corrected. His 'moonbat' sense is through the roof. If something doesn't pass his 'smell test', he is the man of the hour. While many blogs end up with 'egg on their face' by jumping the gun on many things, this place is the tightest of the tight ships on the internet waves...

This has nothing to do with L.A. Times suppression / censorship or assaulting of one's free speech...so don't look at it that way.

The problem, as I've tried to explain over and over, is that posting ridiculous pseudo-stories like this one discredits LGF. I consider this stuff to be even worse than deliberate disinformation -- it's promoted by conspiracy theorists, kooks, and WorldNetDaily, and when you post it here it makes it that much easier for people to just dismiss the REAL stories.

Example: at almost every web site that covered the LA Times video story, you can find comments saying: "Oh yeah, right, this is like that Michelle Obama whitey tape, right?"

That stupid piece of crap story had an enormously damaging effect, and right-wing bloggers who uncritically jumped on the bandwagon should be ashamed of themselves for harming their own cause.

Found out that a couple I know (retired Navy believe it or not) decided to vote for Sen. Obama. When I asked why, they couldn't tell me specifically, but said it was because we needed change.

Okay, here's my problem. I don't care if someone decides to vote for Obama...as long as they a) understand his positions, and b) agree with them.

BUT, it makes me furious to think of my vote being negated by someone who is either too lazy or stupid to even find out what the guy they're voting for is actually proposing to do if elected.

Charles, it doesn't matter what you say to lefties, including your close friends. They will not address the points made; they will simply discredit and zero out the source of the info. So for example, I saw an e-mail coming through that forwarded a McCarthy article from NRO and several responses came back through, not addressing the socialism and "redistributive change" that Andrew McCarthy wrote about, but rather smearing McCarthy because of some contentious accusation of someone who attacked McCain - or something - I couldn't figure out what this person was saying. But nothing about the socialism topic... So if they'll discount NRO, then nothing anyone says will make ANY difference to these folks (I know a bunch of them).

While we're at it, I ask the same question about AARP and the Sierra Club among others. I am on the board of a non-profit organization and the requirements for not lobbying or endorsing political candidates is right in our articles of incorporation - as they are for all IRS recognized non-profits. Yet the IRS never seems to care to enforce this rule against these blatant violators.

The Sierra Club does not claim to be a charity. They don't exactly advertise the fact that contributions to them are not tax deductible, or it is only found in extremely fine print at the bottom of their ads and literature.

AARP was forced to spin off their insurance operations into a separate for-profit company, and their overtly political operations into other organizations. AARP also has a whole bunch of political fronts masquerading as non-profits. IIRC, Divided we Fail is one of them.

re: #370 Sunlight

It's not about those people though, and I know exactly who you are talking about. Being scrupulous and credible is purely beneficial. Moderates, independents, whatever you want to call them, make up a sizable portion of the electorate as well as the non-voters with political leanings that will be raising children and engaging in other activities to re-enforce a non-"progressive" culture.

The left revel in corruption and lunacy and call it virtue. This discredits them among independents a lot more than they will admit, or the media will report. There is a reason why Democrats absolutely must run as moderates. If they expressed the views of their base out in the open they would never get elected except in the most 'liberal' of districts.

If Republicans have a base to pander to, that isn't abjectly embarrassing and damaging to their national image as such is the case with Democrats, it is a purely beneficial scenario.

After they scanned the bar code on my voter registration card, they printed a label with my name and address, which they stuck onto a logsheet; I then had to sign the label. Another worker took my card form the first person, then wrote my name on another, separate yellow log.

Then I was handed a smart card, which was programmed for my precinct. I inserted that card into the touchscreen machine, voted, then hit Submit, which recorded the votes and ejected the card. I then handed the smart card to an election judge, who stuck it into a reader to record the votes.

UK Times Online has a list of the 10 worst US presidents of all time. Surprisingly, George W. Bush is only the 6th worst. I would have expected he would get top-honors from the journos' panel of experts. That singular distinction of "worst president ever" went to James Buchanan.

Even more interesting is the explanation of why Bush is considered 6th worst:

The September 11 attacks, eight months into his presidency, created a central focus for the Bush administration that lasted into his second term. Bush responded by declaring a “war on terror” and leading military invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan as part of his doctrine of pre-emptive military action. The lengthy operations have plummeted in popularity throughout his time in office.

Domestically, he implemented tax cuts and the “no child left behind” education programme but has been criticised for his failure to deal with the impact of Hurricane Katrina and the collapse of the US financial market.

"Bush Jr. invaded Iraq based on faulty intelligence and then catastrophically mismanaged the war, dragging America's name through the mud."

Let's look at those "reasons":

1. Faulty intelligence on Iraq -Well, who didn't have faulty intelligence on Iraq's WMD? The fact is, WMD was only one reason Bush went to war in Iraq. The other reasons were all proven valid.

2. Mishandling the war in Iraq. Guilty as charged. However, ultimately Bush did change strategy with the Surge, and now the Iraq war is won. Ten years from now, a stable democratic & free Iraq will be a solid American ally. History will prove Bush was right.

3. Katrina. Hello? The media have given a complete pass to the Democratic mayor & governor of Louisiana. Bush fumbled, but the real fault lays elsewhere.

4. Financial meltdown. OK, this is 100% a Democratic Party disaster. Bush repeatedly tried to fix the problem, the Dems blocked it.

In summary, the of the 4 reasons given for Bush's ranking as the 6th worst president of all time, not one of them will stand the test of time and reasoned analysis.

There is some genuine interest in the subject. But the author is coming out of worldnetdaily. I think anyone that wants to be taken seriously about their facts would not go via worldnetdaily. The National Enquirer is more reliable.

Just to be blunt. WorldNetDaily is tainted. If I see a link to it, I think that the author or the linker doesn't have it all together. And I think I have probably linked to them before. But experience makes one less foolish.

People won't always know the background until it's explained to them. Much like trying to get an Obama supporter truely informed on what is lacking in Obama.

As a general theme from conversation, the older guys aren't buying into the pro-O union spewage, as they hunt, have worked other jobs, or have the smarts to look at how Chicago's unions and workers fare under O and his Dem buddies' ministrations. The younger guys... well, not so much. Good thing the railroad is full of old farts.

I don't think Iran will test a nuke, unless it is for the propaganda value, in which case they will have decided not to use them, which I doubt. I was out on a case up in Merritt Island Florida last week. Had to get statements from an Arab convenience store owner and some witnesses to an event that happened there a week earlier. The store's on a street called "Tropical Acres Drive". My trusty GPS takes me to what I think will be a run-of-the mill store up the coast. "Tropical Acres" Drive... I'm assuming that after this case, I'll have lunch nearby in a waterfront restaurant. It's a nice, sunny day.

I arrive in my vehicle with a McCain/Palin bumper sticker and park near the dumpsters because when I arrive, I quickly realize that this is a really bad area. The store is adjacent to a run down public housing complex. Obama signs surround the perimeter of this entire housing complex.

Inside the store, behind bullet proof plexi-glass sits the owner. The area outside is quiet. It is 11:00 am. I take his statement and inspect the store. The guy tells me that he is 'terrorized' on a daily basis by the occupants of the complex adjacent to his store. In my mind, I think that he is making self-serving defensive comments because this is a personal injury case filed against him. I am hired to help defend him but can't help but think that perhaps he embellishes.

As we wind up the meeting, and I exit the store for exterior photographs, several trucks pull into the parking lot. An African American male gets out and makes a "hoot-hoot" noise. Suddenly, a crowd of 40-45 African Americans who occupy the housing development surround the store, the owner and myself. It was at that moment that I remember I have a McCain/Palin sticker on my vehicle. They began to chant and blow their vehicle horns. More emerge.

"Racist"! "White Bitch"! "GTF Out of Here Hoe"!

I no longer have a sticker on my vehicle. Why? Because, I am afraid. I think that there are many who feel as I do but remain silent. The silent majority will cast their votes and I believe McCain will win.

When this election is over, I hope that there are no riots. If any blood is spilled, it will be on the hands of the Main Stream Media. I hope they are proud of what they have created.

BTW, the question should not be, "Do they make me look fat?" but "Do they make me look stylishly fat?"

Most women, thankfully, do not correspond to the anorexic bag-of-bones look. And if they were to bother to look at pictures of women from a few decades ago, they would see that the Anorexic Junkie look is a thing of very recent origin. Marilyn Monroe would be considered "fat" today, as would icons of the '30s like Jean Harlow or Kay Francis.

The thing to do is find clothing that flatters your body--and, more important, that you feel comfortable in. The most objectively-glamorous outfit is going to look like hell on you, even if it fits, if you don't feel relaxed in it.

ACORN's systematic fraud

Acorn insists it operates with strict quality controls, turning in, as required by law, all registration forms "even if the name on them was Donald Duck," as Wade Rathke told me two years ago. Acorn whistleblowers tell a different story.

"There's no quality control on purpose, no checks and balances," says Nate Toler, who worked until 2006 as the head organizer of an Acorn campaign against Wal-Mart in California. And Ms. MonCrief says it is longstanding practice to blame bogus registrations on lower-level employees who then often face criminal charges, a practice she says Acorn internally calls "throwing folks under the bus."

Yikes! Well we all know who trained them to do that!

In summary, the of the 4 reasons given for Bush's ranking as the 6th worst president of all time, not one of them will stand the test of time and reasoned analysis.

I believe the reason Bush is considered (by so many) to be a horrible president is his absolute inability to communicate. Bush without a prepared speech is a dunderhead. If Bush had Obama's gift for gab (bullsh*t), all the country would be in support of third term.
I'm exaggerating greatly of course, but his approval numbers would be far greater.

The most important thing about a jacket is how it fits in the shoulders. One of the things that differentiates the cheap jacket from the good one--regardless of price--is the size of the armholes.

A good armhole (scye) fits snugly around the arm. This does two things when you move your arm; it ensures that the body of the jacket won't ride up with the sleeve, and ensures that you won't get that ridiculous flight deck above your shoulder when the shoulder pad angles up.

How do you know this stuff? Or rather, why do you know this stuff?

Bush's prepared speeches can be dreadful as well. In personal meetings one-on-one or in small groups, people are impressed with how well he listens and talks. Very natural and empathetic. It's the large group settings he flounders in. His press conferences are the worst. So yes, his poor communications skills give him a disadvantage, but the media really did him in. They have systematically misquoted him and fed the public an steady stream of anti-Bush propaganda. Why? Because he is a Republican & 80% of the media are Democrats. Some things never change.

I'm thinking of doing an experiment to see whether my name is now off the precinct sign in list on election day, which is what the poll people said is done - they signed us in on the computer and with a signature card and then we voted and they said our names would not appear on the election day list... and we have a bridge for sale. But I might go over there on Tuesday just to see.

Is there any way you could get into trouble if you are caught trying to vote twice? Just askin'

Unless you could prove Alzheimers, you'd be in some pickle.

Good night!? That is creepy. Stay safe.

Speak softly a carry a big f**kin' gun. If possible get a handgun carry permit. Florida recognizes most other states permits too.

Some things never change.

agreed.

I'm originally from Queens, NY. Dad worked for the NY Transit Authority. He had his run-in's with folks that didn't want to drop the token in the box. Came home bloody a few times in the late 60's early 70's.

I guess what bothers me the most is that all of the progress that has been made since the late 60's and early 70's has been completely erased and eroded by this election, at the hands of the MSM. The tensions here in Florida are extremely high. I can't even go shopping anymore without feeling like my African American sisters are angry with me. It's never been like this before.

As a matter of fact, the other day at a local McDonald's, I saw a vehicle with that white window paint stuff that you see for H.S. Football games and such. What was on the window? "Black Power".

How long has it been since you've seen that slogan?

Again.. The MSM will have a very high price to pay after this election.

My punishment recommendation? Line them all up. String them up by their toenails, upside down. Dip them in excrement and beat them with wet ramen noodles. Then, fire them all.

I don't know why people always say that. I think he communicates fine. But then I'm from that same part of the country and know a lot of guys like him.

I agree. I've watched many of his news conferences. (Most people don't) He does fine. To me his biggest problem is he has not been very good at counter-punching the attacks by the media, the Democrats and some of his own party.

The argument that he thought it was not 'presidential' is no excuse. Now as a result, we get BHO. I think Sarah Palin will be an excellent vice president. The only 'pit bull' in the race. And that's why she is hated by the LLL.

My wife and I have said the same to each other over the dinner table.
May I suggest to you to get a Florida handgun carry permit, for your job safety? Sounds like you have plenty of reasons to need one.

Excellent advice! Except for me, that means I'd actually have to, shop. Which means I's have to bring Mrs. Tofu.
Nah, that would take days.

Yes, we've applied for the permit. We're one of those "statistics" that you hear about on the newz. As I said, I'm well trained and never needed to carry but times are changing. So sad to see all of this progress down into the toilet.

I told my son last night: If Martin Luther King, Jr., was running, I'd be so excited, the Nation would be elated because we are ready for an African American president, or a woman. We are MORE than ready. The problem is Obama and what he stands for. This is what is so incredibly sad. Imagine if we had Martin Luther King, Jr.,... how energized this Nation would be. It would be an awesome time for all of us.

Instead of an upstanding, respectable, honorable, forthright, straight speaking, truth telling man... we get a Chicago Thug. What a shame.

Interesting story, but Google Maps does not show a "Tropical Acres Drive" anywhere in Merritt Island, Florida. The satellite view doesn't show anything that looks like a run-down housing project.

There is a Tropical Trail Drive and a Tropical Cove Drive on Merrit Island. I am sure that the poster just confused the name.

Iran feels economic pain as oil prices fall

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) _ Three weeks ago, a hard-line cleric close to Iran's president gloated publicly that the world financial crisis was God's punishment on the United States. The laughter, however, was short-lived.

Iran plunged this week into a bitter storm of political recrimination, largely directed at President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as officials and ordinary Iranians realized with shock that the Islamic republic faces a severe economic crisis of its own.

The reason: As oil prices plunge because of the global slowdown, Iran is caught in a classic crunch. Ahmadinejad's government failed to save enough of the billions in oil windfall it earned during the good years to now cushion the bad.

The same crunch afflicts Venezuela and to a lesser extent, Russia, as all three struggle with falling oil prices.

But in Iran, the economic crisis has quickly turned political. Economic woes are the key issue as Ahmadinejad — already deeply unpopular and suffering from exhaustion, he said this week — seeks re-election next summer in a tough vote. And they are shaping up as his weakness.

Critics say he has recklessly squandered Iran's oil windfall on costly, subsidized imports, from fruit and other goods to the gasoline the country must buy overseas because of a refinery shortage, while failing to take any needed reforms.

But never fear; blaming the USA is always near....

Ahmadinejad said earlier this week that he suffers from exhaustion.

Yet he appears unbowed. In a speech Wednesday, he called the world financial crisis a U.S. creation, although he stopped short of outright calling it God's punishment.

"They say it is a global crisis. No, this crisis is your creation," he said of the United States, addressing a group in western Iran in a speech carried on state TV. "You plundered moneys and are in debt. Now you want to take money from the pocket of other nations again."

The crisis, he said, "is the result of your behavior, the result of you distancing from divine rulings, the result of trampling morality, the result of aggression and lying. The only solution is a return to morality."
