Iowahawk: A Note to the Hoi Polloi

Humor | Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 2:20:42 pm PDT

This is why I call the dreaded Iowahawk “some kinda damn genius:” As a Conservative, I Must Say I Do Quite Like the Cut of this Obama Fellow’s Jib.

When my late father T. Coddington Van Voorhees VI founded the iconoclastic conservative journal National Topsider in 1948, he famously declared that “Now is the time for all good conservative helmsmen to hoist the mizzen, pour the cocktails, and steer this damned schooner hard starboard.” In the 60 years since he first uttered it after one-too-many Cosmopolitans at one of Pamela Harriman’s notorious foreign policy black tie balls, father’s pithy bon mot has served as a rallying cry for conservatives from Greenwich to Chevy Chase. Today, I say it’s time for we conservatives to once again grab the rigging and set sail with the flotilla of the true conservative in this race: Barack Obama.

Trust me, I haven’t taken this tack lightly. No Van Voorhees has supported an avowed socialist since great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandpapa Cragmont Van Voorhees lent Peter Minuet $24 and a sack of wampum to swing a subprime mortgage on Manhattan Island. Old dad himself often recounted how, as a lad, he would command the family chauffeur Carleton to drive the Duesenberg down to the Times Square Trans-Lux so he could hiss Roosevelt. But I’ve taken a good measure of this Obama fellow, and I must say I like the cut of the man’s jib.

How can I say this, you ask? One look at this Obama chap is all the answer you need. Suave, tanned, unflappable, Harvard connections; it’s obvious that here is a man to the conservative manor born. One imagines him at the helm of the Ship of State, basked in the sunlight diffusing through the seaspray over the bow, like some beautiful rugged Othello from a rapturous Ralph Lauren catalog, calmly issuing instructions to the deck crew in that magnificent mellifluous baritone of his. It’s that easy-going, almost effortless grace that has all the A-list conservatives like David Frum and Kathleen Parker whispering Reaganesque in hushed tones. Even Peggy Noonan — the Grand Dame of Gipperism — has succumbed to Obama’s undeniable conservative charms. Just last month I listened to her wax poetic about the Adonis of Chicago between chukkers at the Newport Club polo tournament final.  “Why Peggy, you old dowager,” I quipped, “I believe you just had an orgasm.”

Certainly, my endorsement has raised more than a few eyebrows around the National Topsider water cooler, particularly among the alumni of jejune cow colleges like Michigan or Dartmouth. They sometimes point to Mr. Obama’s radical Rolodex and his hooey about “weath redistribution” and “dictatorship of the proletariat.” But, as I patiently explain, this is precisely the point - it is hooey, over-the-top rhetorical flourishes obviously designed by Mr. Obama to win over benighted inner city hoi polloi (a feat, I might add, that even the Great Communicator himself was unable to accomplish). As for his so-called radical ties, who among us hasn’t sent dinner party invitations to Gore Vidal and a leftwing terrorists or two to enliven the postprandial conversation? Leonard Bernstein loved hosting all manner of Weathermen and Black Panthers and Symbionese Liberation Army celebrities at his Park Avenue pied a terre, but it didn’t mean the Maestro wasn’t in favor of low taxes. On the contrary; I know for a fact he itemized every cent of the catering bills for his famous terrorist cocktail parties.

WASHINGTON WATCH: OBAMA'S PERSONAL FOREIGN AID BILL

"IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES, December 7, 2007 [Pearl Harbor day...]

Mr. OBAMA (for himself, Mr. HAGEL, Ms. CANTWELL, Mrs. FEINSTEIN, Mr. LUGAR, Mr. DURBIN, Mr. MENENDEZ, Mr. BIDEN, Mr. DODD, Mr. FEINGOLD, Ms. SNOWE, Mrs. MURRAY, Mr. HARKIN, Mr. JOHNSON, Mr. SMITH, and Mr. KERRY) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations."

Obama's bill S2433 passed the committee, and is going to the Senate. Senator Coburn is blocking this bill.

Quoting a portion of the Bill, "At the summit of the Group of Eight (G-8) nations in July 2005, leaders from all eight participating countries committed to increase aid to Africa from the current $25,000,000,000 annually to $50,000,000,000 by 2010, and to cancel 100 percent of the debt obligations owed to the World Bank, African Development Bank, and International Monetary Fund by 18 of the world's poorest nations."

Obama's bill S2433 would require the U.S. to initially direct .7 percent of our GNP into the United Nations coffers for distribution as they see fit, for "food" to third world nations. Under earlier agreements, this would evolve into a national tax on the U.S. The UN is attempting to levy this on all first world nations.

The U.N. would also have the power to increase this rate of taxation in the future. The U.S. would be required to surrender some of its sovereignty over foreign aid, by putting it under UN control. The bill would force the U.S. to sign onto the U.N.'s Millennium Declaration, which would commit Americans not only to "banning small arms and light weapons" but also to adhere to the International Criminal Court Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol, among others. This bill will cost America $845 billion above and beyond what America already spends on global aid in the next thirteen years. Evidently the only way to raise that funding is through a global tax, preferably on carbon-emitting fossil fuels. On the forum run by Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, one writer reported that an estimated tax of between 35 cents and 1 dollar per gallon on gasoline would be needed.

In summary, IN ADDITION TO current US policy and procedures regarding a wide variety of existing foreign aid programs, Obama's S2433 is designed to subject sovereign Americans, on US soil, to United Nations taxation and rule, disarm private citizens, raise the cost of fuel, and spread our wealth around the world without our direct say-so.

SB2433 directs the President to take action on this Bill within one year after it's enactment. This is what is waiting in the wings, for just after an Obama inauguration.

10 Tamron  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 2:30:21pm

On 4 July 2005, here's what a Kenyan economics expert had to say about the well-meaning but ultimately damaging 'aid' flooding into his country:

"FOR GOD'S SAKE, PLEASE STOP THE AID!"

Kenyan economics expert James Shikwati, 35, says that aid to Africa does more harm than good. The avid proponent of globalization spoke with SPIEGEL about the disastrous effects of Western development policy in Africa, corrupt rulers, and the tendency to overstate the AIDS problem.

SPIEGEL: Mr. Shikwati, the G8 summit at Gleneagles is about to beef up the development aid for Africa...

Shikwati: ... for God's sake, please just stop.

SPIEGEL: Stop? The industrialized nations of the West want to eliminate hunger and poverty.

Shikwati: Such intentions have been damaging our continent for the past 40 years. If the industrial nations really want to help the Africans, they should finally terminate this awful aid. The countries that have collected the most development aid are also the ones that are in the worst shape. Despite the billions that have poured in to Africa, the continent remains poor.

SPIEGEL: Do you have an explanation for this paradox?

Shikwati: Huge bureaucracies are financed (with the aid money), corruption and complacency are promoted, Africans are taught to be beggars and not to be independent. In addition, development aid weakens the local markets everywhere and dampens the spirit of entrepreneurship that we so desperately need. As absurd as it may sound: Development aid is one of the reasons for Africa's problems. If the West were to cancel these payments, normal Africans wouldn't even notice. Only the functionaries would be hard hit. Which is why they maintain that the world would stop turning without this development aid.

SPIEGEL: Even in a country like Kenya, people are starving to death each year. Someone has got to help them.

Shikwati: But it has to be the Kenyans themselves who help these people. When there's a drought in a region of Kenya, our corrupt politicians reflexively cry out for more help. This call then reaches the United Nations World Food Program -- which is a massive agency of apparatchiks who are in the absurd situation of, on the one hand, being dedicated to the fight against hunger while, on the other hand, being faced with unemployment were hunger actually eliminated. It's only natural that they willingly accept the plea for more help. And it's not uncommon that they demand a little more money than the respective African government originally requested. They then forward that request to their headquarters, and before long, several thousands tons of corn are shipped to Africa ...

SPIEGEL: ... corn that predominantly comes from highly-subsidized European and American farmers ...

Shikwati: ... and at some point, this corn ends up in the harbor of Mombasa. A portion of the corn often goes directly into the hands of unsrupulous politicians who then pass it on to their own tribe to boost their next election campaign. Another portion of the shipment ends up on the black market where the corn is dumped at extremely low prices. Local farmers may as well put down their hoes right away; no one can compete with the UN's World Food Program. And because the farmers go under in the face of this pressure, Kenya would have no reserves to draw on if there actually were a famine next year. It's a simple but fatal cycle.

=======================================

Senator Barack Obama, with his Kenyan roots, needs to accept a light-bulb moment from his fellow countryman -- a professional economics expert who lives and works there -- and taking a good look at how to fix the REAL problem in Africa, instead of throwing more money at dictators like his cousin Odinga. As clearly explained by Shikwati, Obama's "Aid" plan would NOT trickle down to the people who are living on $1 a day.

Read the book, "The Ugly American".

I just looked over the video's and the site. There's nothing really new here. There is only one more day in this news cycle, the weekend cycles are usually dead time and after Monday, nothing can legally air. That's two prime time news days (and Firdays's themselves are sort of soft days). So, what's the point?

The point is that these ads can get some major play in the final 72 hours, the window in which we can win this election for McCain and save the country from socialist tyranny. There's still plenty of undecideds to win over and these ads will be effective in scaring them sufficiently of Obama.

That's why it matters.

Hoi polloi (Greek: οἱ πολλοί), an expression meaning "the many" (literally: "the citizens") in Greek, is used in English to denote "the masses" or "the people", usually in a derogatory sense.

Synonyms for "hoi polloi" include "...commoners, great unwashed, minions, multitude, plebeians, proletariat, rabble, rank and file, riffraff, the common people, the herd, the many, the masses, the peons, the working class".[1]

It is often misused to mean "upper class." Possibly because of confusion with the term hoity toity.

Good Afternoon All,
This is in reference to the previous thread and may be a dumb question or
already thought of previously, but has anyone thought of trying to find
info on the AAAN dinner that is on the LA Times tape in question. There must have been something reported somewhere at the time it took place. I would think this would have been a big deal to that organization at the time and they would have info somewhere from that period of time. Oh I'm doing all of that too, but I also don't see what this has to do with the news cycle. If Average Joe/Jane Independent/Undecided American sees one of these ads before heading to the polls on Tuesday, don't you think they'd be a lot more hesitant to vote for Obama than if they hadn't seen the ads?

News cycles, it's when people are watching the tube, watching the news, reading the papers, when bombs are thrown. Average Joe's are not watching as much media on weekends, and Fridays is a soft media day.

And the bottom line is THESE ARE NOT BOMBS. This 527 would have to have NEW exclusive information to make much of a difference.

Hit the streets, spend your money in your community, it's the best way to use the last funds for this campaign.

These are not bombs.

Many of the Obots are just plain naive. They are going with the flow, with the "cool people," unfortunately enough. But it's true. When I start by telling them "Obama is dangerous," it gets their attention. And in many cases I realize they know nothing about the man. A little educatin' usually turns on a few lights in their heads. Multiply these little encounters by the millions and it can turn this election.

All my evenings starting Sat. are busy. We have a concert Nov. 1st, then I have tech every night until opening.

Then Nov. 9 and 10 we have the Roger McGuinn concert, which is all my baby.

So, you got my email address. Best time would be After Nov. 10th, any day, or any evenings Mon-Thur. After the 10th through Nov.

Dec. my schedule gets busier since we add performances in Dec.

I pointed out earlier today, that when I engage Obama supporters in conversation, I try to direct the conversation to his 2 books. What I find out is, out of a crowd of 5 or 6 people, I, the guy not voting for him, is the only one who has read his books.

It is a very typical experience for me to know way more about their candidate than they do, thanks mostly to this blog. I know his schooling, his parents, his education, his associations and his voting record.

My analysis is that this is a classic personality cult, no different than Britney Spears or Brad Pitt. Only with dangerous consequences.

Why do you say that? The only people who have voted so far are those 100% on one side or the other. People truly undecided are among those who haven't voted. Most people who really are undecided (and not just lying about it) make up their minds within the last 48 hours. I know this because in the last 4 elections, I have been one.

I have a voter fraud question.

If someone moved from one state to another, and have lived here several years but forgot to register in the new state, is it voter fraud to drive back to the old state and vote there, as long as they vote only once?

I'm not asking if it is unethical. Is it technically fraud? Would lawyers see it as such, especially ones from the other side?

No....totally legal so long as you are only registered in the old state.

Probably depends on the state. Missouri law says voters must be residents. If you left several years ago and established a residence somewhere else, you aren't a resident of the prior state.

Wow, I would have said the opposite because in order to "reside" in a state, you have to take a driver's license, a residence, you know, those sort of things. If you move to another, you no longer reside in the old one.

I'm certainly not a lawyer, but it seems someone could drive to their old state (where someone else will now be living at their former address), vote, and then go to the state they actually reside in and vote again. The states don't cross-reference rolls too much as far as I know.

re: #122 Big Steve

If people are really undecided at this late a date, then it is difficult to predict what would convince them. Campaign finance reform forbids running campaign ads for the last 48 hours before the vote. It does not forbid the media from running "stories" that are about the campaign.

No one believes that the media are a neutral arbiter in this election. This gives them two days to hammer home the support for their candidate unanswered by the McCain camp.

If people are really undecided at this late a date, then that could be the difference. The last ads that they will have heard will be pro-Obama "news" fromt the Media. As close as this is, that could be the difference in who is President. Especially since the Media has shown that it isn't above manipulating the "news" that it conveys to boost their candidate.

That was one of the reasons, you may recall, why Florida was such a close vote in 2000. The Media called the state before the polls had closed in the panhandle.

This is supposedly the reason for "motor voter" laws (like Ohio's). So that you don't have to drive back to your previous home precinct to cast your vote. Same-day registration makes it possible to cast your vote where you now actually live, assuming that you can prove you actually live there and have done so for some minimum time period (varying from 30 days to one year, depending on the state).

Of course, such laws assume that not only the voter, but the state officials responsible for ensuring a free and fair election, are honest.

/In Ohio, that is probably only half true.

cheers

To NEVADA Lizards:

Mac and Sarah to hold their last campaign rallies in YOUR state!

John McCain and Sarah Palin have chosen Nevada for their last stop of the campaign season! Please mark your calendar for these very special events, to take place this Monday evening, November 3rd.

Senator McCain will hold a "Road to Victory Rally" in Las Vegas, and Governor Palin will hold a "Road to Victory Rally" in Reno.

Time, location and ticket details to follow. Get ready to make history in Nevada!

Also, check out the post by "SugnSpicesmom" down the page a bit. A quote from her post:

Anyway, thanks to all. Things are crazy over here today! We're working these phones and getting lots of positive responses. Still getting the asshole Obama supporters, too but that's to be expected.

However, we were just told that exit polls show the Democrats voting 4:1 over Republicans BUT....those polls are showing Obama 50/McCain 48 which means there's a shitload of Democrats and Independents that are crossing over and voting for McCain! YA-FRICKIN-HOO! Republicans almost ALWAYS vote on Election Day so that will take care of Obambi here in NV.

Everyone - listen to me - McCain IS going to win this election. I feel it deep in my bones!

Keep working!

If this is a conservative - believe me - I am glad he is gone and I hope he never comes back. One of the best things that will happen this election - after McCain wins we would have also cleaned out the party from all the RINOs. GOOD FUCKIN RIDDANCE!

Satire. It's satire*.

*Satire is often strictly defined as a literary genre or form; although, in practice, it is also found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, human or individual vices, follies, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, or other methods, ideally with the intent to bring about improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, the purpose of satire is not primarily humour in itself so much as an attack on something of which the author strongly disapproves, using the weapon of wit.

A very common, almost defining feature of satire is its strong vein of irony or sarcasm, but parody, burlesque, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre are all frequently used in satirical speech and writing. The essential point, however, is that "in satire, irony is militant".[2] This "militant irony" (or sarcasm) often professes to approve the very things the satirist actually wishes to attack.

Well then you actually prove my point. If you don't have females teaching males, and males teaching females, etc., these sort of things cannot happen.

The liberal taskmasters look at these type of same-sex arrangements and attack them as this-or-that but refuse to see the benefit they give to the society. How much harm has come out of mixed-sex education? Just look at college. It is no longer a place for education but instead a place to drink, do drugs, and "experiment".

By definition, you are legally able to vote in a precinct where you are legally registered no matter where it is. It is the registered part that you have to be careful of because most areas send out new voter cards periodically and they will send to their address on file. If you don't live there you won't get the card. Also there are periodic reviews to see if there are multiple registrants at the same address. You don't need to have a current voter card to vote however if you got sent a new card and didn't get it and either got struck or the current resident sent it back, you might find yourself not on the precinct roles and then you would have wasted your trip back.

OT...But Holy F*ckin Cow
Iranian Nuke Scientist: Weekend Quake was a Nuclear Test

This past Saturday night, southern Iran experienced what was reported as a significant earthquake - a seismic event measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was just north of the strategic Straits of Hormuz, which separates Iran from Abu Dhabi and Oman and which is the gateway to the Persian Gulf.

The report quotes an Iranian nuclear scientist who claims to be working in uranium enrichment for the project, and who said that the "quake" was acutally an undergound nuclear bomb test.

Israel Insider adds that the test/quake was actually the second in a series. Nine days ago, a 4.8 Richter scale event occurred, with its epicenter only five kilometers away from the weekend tremor.

The Israel Insider source reports that two nuclear rockets are currently ready - and are intended for use against Israel in the coming months.

I didn't say anything about (statutory) rape, or whether she was right, or anything of the sort.

What I said was that it was refreshing for the guilty party in this instance to say that what she did was "due to sexual urges" rather than taking refuge in crap about being a "sex addict," or "depressed," or some other bullshit psychobabble.

And it is. She admitted she was horny and so behaved wrongly. That doesn't change her guilt in the slightest--it merely makes her more refreshingly honest than the whining excuse-mongers who do the same thing here.

That was another teacher earlier. This one hasn't admitted anything. But, yeah she was honest about it.

Gotcha. I vote in Texas (a lot of good that does McCain) and I periodically get "confirmation postcards" at my current address (Germany) making sure I'm still around.

Well my wife, who I dearly love, but tends to flame out politically and cancel my vote, just got back from early voting and in the end could not pull the lever for Obama. In the end, just couldn't take the risk and voted McCain. So bless her heart, I guess she gets sex tonight.

TMI, but...YAY! (The voting part, I mean. Buy her something too!)

Man, is this tough."

Anyone on the fence at this late date is, I suspect, thinking purely in Dancing With The Stars terms.

"The Rep guy is smart but he is, like , such a geezer. And the gal with him- does she do her own hair?

"Oh wow, the Dem guy is hottttt. But his buddy is soooo dummb.

"Anybody want more 'cap while we decide who to vote for? I'm buyin'."

You'd be amazed how many people I meet every day whose ideation never gets above this level.

Proof positive that we live in the safest society in the history of- history itself, as Douglas Adams would say.

That's crap alright.. A nuclear explosion has a completely different frequency signature than a earthquake...

See I politely dissagree. See my previous post but my wife honestly changed her mind in the booth. This is really the true test of being undecided. I wouldn't equate being undecided at this point with being uninterested or ill-informed.

I'm in agreement with you. I decided long ago. So did my wife. But I can honestly see someone vacilating up to and including entering the booth. Who DOESN'T want "CHANGE" of some type in their lives. Who DOESN'T "HOPE" for something better! Mind you, I'm not saying that Obama WILL bring change and/or hope for the better, but to many people those words alone resonate.

Curtain closes, you're in the booth all alone, your conceinse finally is free of all the noise, all the talking heads, all the cluter. CHOOSE!

I'm hoping many Obama supporters (and PUMA's) have an epiphany at that moment and come to realixe, I can NOT vote for that!

A Credit Card Payment Expert Explains the Depths of Obama's Fraud

Excerpt 1:

In other words, an organization like Move On.org could run tens of thousands of transactions for millions of dollars using essentially cards belonging to only handful of very large liberal donors like George Soros, Peter Lewis and Eric Schmidt.

Excerpt 2:

Obama's site violates his agreement with Visa/Mastercard. Visa Mastercard regulations require each credit card acceptor to "obtain the 3 digit Card Validation Code [CVV2 found on the back of your credit card. 4 digits for American Express Cards] and submit this code with all authorization requests with respect to transactions where the card is not present..."

Excerpt 3:

Many foreign credit cards do not have CVV2 codes. Requiring such codes would limit foreign donations.

Excerpt 4:

This response indicates to the merchant acquirer if the card information was validated as to ownership of the account. It is the merchant acquirer that determines what to do when the authorization response is received. In most cases the transaction that comes back with any negative meaning is denied. However, if the merchant acquirer has adjusted their system to accept any response as acceptable the transaction would be completed.

Excerpt 5:

What is interesting to me is that the merchant acquirer has knowingly violated a basic CNP fraud prevention technique to accommodate a merchant (Obama Campaign). I think that both the Associations (VISA & MasterCard) would be highly interested in looking at the merchant acquirer that was processing these transactions.

It's dependent on on the laws of the state you vote in, and their laws regarding residency requirements for voting. My guess is that it would be fraud.

255 AceR  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 4:02:00pm

I just saw an add by Acorn on Fox saying that John McCain is trying to prevent black people from voting. I got so angry after I saw the ad.

This tirade is directed to Acorn and all the deadbeats who are whining that "whitey" is trying to prevent them from voting this year.

Excuse me, but if you were too stupid or lazy to get your butt out there in the past 4 years to register to vote, then what does that say about you? Crap, this election has been going on for over a year. You mean to tell me that in this past year you never once asked yourself the question "Am I registered to vote?"

I'll bet if they were giving away free TV's to anyone who registered at the local Best Buy before the next election, there would be a line stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast filled with deadbeats signing up.

And now, with only days left before this election, Acorn lobs the "whitey is tryin' to keep poor ol' black folks from voting" bomb. To Acorn I say "Shame on you".

Each and every time I have ever moved, I made sure that I registered to vote based on my new address. Just like I made sure to schedule an install of cable, and have my electricity, telephone and water hooked up.

Responsible citizens, who take voting seriously as their civic duty, make the effort well before the election to ensure they are registered to vote, so that their vote will count. Why is that so hard for Acorn and their "customers" to grasp?

And while I am bitching, I want to respond to Ohio's new rule that allows the homeless to register their home address as a park bench. Maybe I am being very insensitive to those who set up house on a park bench, but IMHO, if the post office can't deliver mail to your address at #6 Park Bench Place, then those folks should take a pass in this election and wait until they get their house in order. But that's just me....

Pissed off in Maryland.

yes there is a technical big difference between consensual and non-consensual rape. I would never deny that.

Yet you did anyway in the comment I responded to initially. "RAPE" in big scary capital letters without any qualifiers.

But society has rightfully decided that in instances where one over the age of consent (18) has sexual relations with one that is under the age of consent, it is based on an unequal balance of power between the parties.

If you believe that the child was in no way swayed by the fact that the predator was a teacher, then I believe you are fooling yourself. Beyond that, the age difference alone gives the 30 year old an unfair advantage over the child. Have you spoken to a 17 year old lately?

It is not the age difference that give the imbalance, it is the student/teacher relationship. It is unethical for a teacher to do that to an 18yo as well. The fact that there was Teenager/Cougar action going on does lend itself to jokes, and it is funny, based entirely on societal stereotypes of what 17yo boys are like.

Lastly, if this was a male teacher and a female student, I imagine you would be singing a different tune.

Possibly, since that stereotype is of a dirty old man predator/innocent girl prey relationship as opposed to the way that it looks when a 17yo boy scores a 30yo+ woman.

*I will take this opportunity to once again state that if school was separated by sexes (men teaching men, and vice versa) we as a society wouldn't have these issues!

The last time Halloween was on a Friday night, we had a group of adults stumble by (in costume) and they wanted vodka (LOL) and I gave them some!

Absolutely brilliant! Iowahawk is a National Treasure. I hope somebody emails this to the National Review. Point of fact, those guys at NR did accept T. Cod - I mean, Buckley the Younger's proffered resignation pronto, (much to BTY's and K. Parker's evident astonishment.)

What the fuck is this monkey talking about? Palin is an awful woman? Why - because she is a normal human being? That piece is disgusting! If this is a conservative - believe me - I am glad he is gone and I hope he never comes back. One of the best things that will happen this election - after McCain wins we would have also cleaned out the party from all the RINOs. GOOD FUCKIN RIDDANCE!

So sad to see how high grade, but nonetheless obvious sarcasm can be so lost on some folks.

Does anyone know of a good anger management class for this person?

This is something best read aloud in one's best Thurston Howell III voice.

God, this is funny. "Consuela, mix us another pitcher of Martinis."

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be in a re-education camp with Iowahawk.

Looks like Iowahawk's pearl has landed at someone's swinish feet. It's called "sarcasm" sir.

Dude...one word for you: "satire".

If you need a second word, try "decaf".

re: #76 rawmuse

I pointed out earlier today, that when I engage Obama supporters in conversation, I try to direct the conversation to his 2 books. What I find out is, out of a crowd of 5 or 6 people, I, the guy not voting for him, is the only one who has read his books.

It is a very typical experience for me to know way more about their candidate than they do, thanks mostly to this blog. I know his schooling, his parents, his education, his associations and his voting record.

My analysis is that this is a classic personality cult, no different than Britney Spears or Brad Pitt. Only with dangerous consequences.

Presenting facts to an Obama supporter is like throwing tennis balls at a block wall--they just bounce off, and don't even leave a mark.

A dear friend of mine is a complete Obamaton. When I compare Obama's policies to Carter and warn of the same results, she insists that this would be just fine by her--because everybody did quite well under Carter.

You just can't help people like that.

Cult of personality is a good way to put it. One could even call it a religion, as belief in Obama seems to be a matter of faith rather than a rational decision.

281 Zimriel  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 6:04:35pm

I admit, Hapster #18 was some shunny fit.

But all of you idiots piling on at comment #277, 279 etc aren't any better. Can't anyone word-search on his name and see what he's said since then?

282 Sevoguy  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 6:30:22pm

Tonight on Hanity (radio program), Dick Morris told the audience that the The National Republican Trust PAC needs 1.5 million dollars more to continuously air a video about Obama and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in battleground states. According to Dick Morris, these videos are having an affect.

WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY really disliked Pat Buckanan.

So do I.

William F. Buckley wishes he could posthumously rework the will now.

Pants-peeingly funny. The allergy meds, however, make me dehydrated and the boxer/briefs are still dry.

Yes, I saw your comment, and I agree! It might have been the Ayers thing.

Hope you are doing well, and I'll catch you later today, on some other thread. And Happy Halloween!

Iowahawk kills me - his satire is in the top one percent. If you haven't seen his work on the subprime fiasco, treat yourself to some tears of joy.

288 Daisy  Fri, Oct 31, 2008 7:47:41am

Iowahawk is, and always will be, top-drawer. Brilliant - you stayed in perfect form throughout. As a Conservative of the old mold, I feel vindicated. Thanks!

289 fidget  Fri, Oct 31, 2008 9:19:42am

Nice mention in the opening of Rush Limbaugh - congratulations. Glad to say we knew ya' way back before you were famous...

290 freeus  Fri, Oct 31, 2008 9:22:49am

HOOORAAHHHHHH! Rush giving Iowahawk some love! Gotta send Rush an email to make sure he does not label Iowahawk a Lib!

I could not have made it through this election without the humor from Iowahawk. My fav was the "Teleprompter" and now this. Long may Iowahawk reign in satire and much needed humor on the blogosphere! And may he go beyond the internet! The world needs Iowahawk.

re: #134 Silhouette

I have a voter fraud question.

If someone moved from one state to another, and have lived here several years but forgot to register in the new state, is it voter fraud to drive back to the old state and vote there, as long as they vote only once?

I'm not asking if it is unethical. Is it technically fraud? Would lawyers see it as such, especially ones from the other side?

"Sil" -

Technically it is fraud - AND - I have done it with the fiction that my current address was "temporary" and my prior was my permanent address in case I were called on it. Have never been called on it, and so it goes.

re: #148 imploder

Wow, I would have said the opposite because in order to "reside" in a state, you have to take a driver's license, a residence, you know, those sort of things. If you move to another, you no longer reside in the old one.

I'm certainly not a lawyer, but it seems someone could drive to their old state (where someone else will now be living at their former address), vote, and then go to the state they actually reside in and vote again. The states don't cross-reference rolls too much as far as I know.

Hey, it works for all the "nearly dead" New Yorkers/Jerseyites that live in Florida and dual-vote in each place...

The practice has been going on for DECADES, yet neither state has an interest in stopping the practice. Hell, go to Ohio, sit on a park bench for a day, then go vote!

In this day and age of electronic record keeping and superior technology, there is absolutely NO barrier to doing such a crosscheck, and yet here we are...
