Something you don't see so much in big cities.
Wife wants fish for Friday, so I'm at a local cafe to get takeout. I'm a bad man, so I've already stereotyped the patrons by sight. One table worries me. A lot. Big guy. Muddy boots, flannel shirt. Dude with a face like Freddie Kruger before the reconstructive surgery. Just sitting there, quiet-like. At the table a boy, I don't know how old but less than ten. Kid's chattering away about everything and nothing, bouncing around in his seat, craning his neck around to see everything to be seen.
Their food comes and the kid reaches for his burger. The man says the first word I've heard him speak. Sounds like someone shaking gravel in a galvanized bucket. One word. "Son."
The kid stops, they both bow their heads to pray.
I'm still stereotyping, but I don't think that Obadin has his vote.

This arrived via email this morning.
Letter from a business owner to his Small Business Association
Dear Fellow Business Owners,
As a business owner who employs 30 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Obama, will be our next President, and that my Taxes will go up in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, I figure that the customer will have to see an increase in my fees to them of about 8%. I will also have to lay off 6 of my employees. This really bothered me as I believe we are family here and didn't know how to choose who will have to go.
So, this is what I did. I strolled through the parking lot and found 8 Obama
bumper stickers on my employee's cars. I have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of another fair way to approach this problem. If you have a better idea, let me know. They're all good people.

I have just about worn my brain out reading all of the political websites and blog. Now I have to put up with Halloween and all I keep seeing when I close my eyes is Beezurk Obama.
Talk about a nightmare, I can only say that I voted for McCain in early voting here in Texas and I've got my fingers crossed.
At least that trial balloon that the Obama campaign tried to float about him having a chance to win in Texas disappeared in a hurry. Being from El Paso is bad enough since it's a Democratic stronghold. I would move to another red state if Texas went Beezurk for Obama.
Anyone heard any new polls today? Not that I trust them, but I find that they are entertaining in their efforts to poll more Democrats and then state that Obama is up 12 points.
Will be opening a fine pilsner beer in just a few moments so Happy Halloween to all of the LGF lizardoids.

Lizard news: Rare dragon-like reptile found breeding in New Zealand for the first time in 200 years
A rare dragon-like reptile with lineage dating back to the dinosaur age has been found nesting on the New Zealand mainland for the first time in about 200 years, officials said.
Four leathery, white eggs from an indigenous tuatara, which once roused fears of extinction, were discovered today by staff at the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, conservation manager Rouen Epson said.
'The nest was uncovered by accident and is the first concrete proof we have that our tuatara are breeding,' Epson said.

GOOD NEWS !
1. made calls for McCain Pailin, today is Nevada Day alot of people were home. In a few hours of calling,I had only one caller who told me he would not vote. Nobody for Obama. Many had already voted.Spirits were high. there were more volunteers than phones available, door to door operations in progress.
2. early voting stations had long lines ,and cars were overwhelmingly tagged with McCain/Pailin stickers. I think we are going to win the swing state of Nevada, and one of the biggest stickers volunteers wanted was Democrats for McCain. Polls are wrong here and that could mean that PA OHIO FLA will be easy McCain wins.

What's also interesting to consider, fellow lizards, if the enormous bump that the McCain campaign received after selecting Palin for VP.
It's telling, that perhaps there IS a large silent majority evading pollsters and keeping quiet, as they do practically every election.
Some of these polls had McCain/Palin up 10 points over Obama that week. Where did they go? Are you telling me that suddenly, because of Palin, that an enormous amount if people suddenly decided to vote for McCain-- then suddenly changed their minds back again?
We know the polls are whack to begin with, but can someone explain this? It's unimaginable that the media's immediate tearing down of Palin caused thousands of minds to change after they thought she was a good idea to vote for. This may just be more evidence of people "embarrassed" to tell a pollster what they really think, based on constant media barrages.

I think kid's candy should be taxed and the proceeds used to fight global warming which is a serious threat to chocolate worldwide.
Global warming will not in any way threaten the chocolate as 'cacao' is a tropical tree which thrives on hot temperatures.

Hawaii officials declare Obama birth certificate genuine
Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said today she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.
Fukino says that no state official, including Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama's certificate be handled differently.
She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.
Some Obama critics claim he was not born in the U.S.
Earlier today, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama's citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.

The learned European essayist Fjordman here reviews Ali Sina's Understanding Muhammad. Since Fjordman has been accused of being a white supremacist and a neofascist, some people have also accused me of being a white supremacist and neofascist, because I publish his fine essays on jihad and the Islamization of Europe. So I thought I would take this opportunity to say that while white supremacism and neofascism are wrong and should everywhere be opposed, I do not believe Fjordman is a white supremacist or a neofascist. What many have taken as "white supremacism" is his interest in trying to stem the tide of immigration into Europe, which threatens to make Europeans into minorities in their own countries, and -- because the immigrants are overwhelmingly Muslim -- to create a series of Sharia states across Europe.
Oh, well. Robert never liked me much anyways. Under the bus with him.

More Crane
Once there came a man
Who said,
"Range me all men of the world in rows."
And instantly
There was terrific clamour among the people
Against being ranged in rows.
There was a loud quarrel, world-wide.
It endured for ages;
And blood was shed
By those who would not stand in rows,
And by those who pined to stand in rows.
Eventually, the man went to death, weeping.
And those who staid in bloody scuffle
Knew not the great simplicity.
Haven't read this stuff in years.
It's from Black Riders and Other Lines, if interested. I think you can download from google books for free.

More recently (two weeks ago), the genuinely neofascist VNN Forum (an evil site to which I will provide no link) criticized one of Fjordman's articles about Europe for not blaming Jews for the problem. VNN Forum writers called Fjordman "a neocon jew-ass-kisser who is either oblivious of the fact that jews are responsible for what is happening or is aware but doesn't have the guts to name the jew." They also pointed out that "the Brussels Journal is never critical towards the Jew" and went on to complain that "multiculturalism stops when the Jew is down and out. Those Islamophobic 'nationalist' parties accomplish nothing....I would rather see anti-synagogue marches over anti-mosque ones. The mosques become a non-issue if you defeat the wretched sheeny."
I would rather stand with Israel, and Fjordman, than with those racist neofascists.
The old "fascists can't support Israel" gimmick.

When I was a boy I loved Halloween. Not for the costumes or the scary bits, shoot man, life was already scary enough. Didn't need a bunch of store-boughten costumers to strike a pose.
Nope. It was Mom's homemade popcorn balls. Once a year, always at Halloween.
I close my eyes and it all comes rushing back. The smell of the fresh-popped corn. The pot of warm thick syrup with enough butter to clog any artery known. Mom at the stove, humming something, reaching up to push an uinruly lock of hair back with the back of her hand.
And the taste. Sweet crunchy buttery salty. Man, I'm getting old.

Got home tonight and hanging on my front door was a McCain/Palin flyer. Written at the top was 'Please Vote!' and it was signed 'Carol'. There was a xeroxed sheet of paper with it. At the top it said 'Community Outreach to New Hampshire Citizens' and the first paragraph said "I have flown from Orange County California to New Hampshire to do everything I can to assist...." and at the bottom of the page in small print was written "Paid for by California Citizen, Carol (last name)"
Just wow.
I was going to go out leafleting later tonight, but I guess I'll wait until Sunday rather than hammer everyone at once.

I just read it... he posted Fjordmann's statements, then proceed to say he "stands with him," even though Fjordmans statements focused on race, rather than culture or religion, which is the issue.
Very troubling indeed..
Yes, , despite his flimsy attempt to repackage it as a natural concern for the fate of his children, his obsession with race is there for all to see.

Last year was just atrocious. I went through about $100 in candy in a little over 90 minutes.
And they kept coming for quite a while afterwards - far more children than I know exist in the surrounding neighborhoods.
the only kids that showed up in our AO were the anchor offspring of the local maids, gardners etc...... so we quit giving out candy or decorating until after 1NOV.

Only 4 kids so far. Worst year ever. Next one that comes is getting all the rest.
On the election side, I had to pick a "personal day" holiday back in January - I thought for a moment and asked for Nov 5th. They were curious and asked why I would pick a Wednesday. I told them that no matter how the election went, I would not be fit to work - either crying or gloating. I am less worried about the possibility of crying. And I also got Tuesday the 4th off as a "voluntary-without-pay" day. I am going to go vote Tuesday and then I am going to go buy (another) gun.

See? That's what I'm talking about. I can't afford this socialist holiday. So I think it's important for the kids to know that some will support their insatiable desire for free goodies from the community, but others of us will be the ones to teach them the hard reality of life- candy doesn't grow on trees.

Hey, did I mention a friend and I won the Halloween costume contest at work yesterday? We won first 4 years in a row ... sometimes just the two of us, sometimes as a group. First time we won we did the Men in Black. Then we got with a group to do Village People. Then we did Sonny and Cher (I was Cher, she was Sonny). Then we did Gilligan's Island (I was Gilligan, she was Mary Ann, and we got a group to play the rest of the castaways). The next year we did Popeye and Olive Oyl (I was Olive) and came in second--everyone thought we wuz robbed. Then we got one other person and played Elvis impersonators ... came in third. But this year we got back on top (admittedly the competition was not that great) playing fitness coaches from hell. Our employer just outfitted the fitness center (which for two decades consisted of a track and some old crappy equipment) with brand new Nautilus machines, a Smith machine, reclining bikes, treadmills, climbing machines, dumbbells, and other cool stuff, so we decided to kind of "promote" it. I dressed up like Coach Hines from MAD TV, although I wasn't able to get a partly-bald wig and just went all bald, and she dressed like a female gym coach with a big butt and hairy legs. People loved it.

Top One Reason Why McCain Might Win
Posted by: Bill Dyer at 7:25 PM
(Guest Post by Bill Dyer a/k/a Beldar)
J-Pod has 10 Reasons Why McCain Might Win, and it's a nice list, worth a glance at least.
With due respect to him, however, I'll have a better list. It has precisely one item on it:
1. We haven't had the election yet. So anyone who tells you — based on public opinion polls or science or guesswork or magic or anything else — that he or she knows what the outcome is going to be is lying to you.
Read the whole thing...

Iran threatens US with suicide bombers
Only a few days ahead of the American presidential election, Iranian parliamentary speaker 'Ali Larijani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah 'Ali Khamanai have launched harsh verbal attacks against the United States.
Referring to the US army's attacks in Pakistan and Syria, Larijani said they would not be answered with diplomatic protests.
"The US method and conduct, expressed by this aggression, will only be stopped by a clear-cut and unexpected response, whose grounds were set by the martyr Hussein Fahmida," Larijani said during a parliamentary session on Wednesday.
Fahmida was 13 when he detonated an explosive device he carried on him, destroying an Iraqi tank during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s.
"America should be aware not to put its huge body on top of the suicide bombers' explosive devices," Larijani said.
On the same day, Khamanai said the differences between Iran and the US were far beyond differences of opinion.
"The Iranian people hate the US… [because of] the various plots the US government has hatched against Iran and the Iranian nation for the past five decades," Khamanai said.
The Supreme Leader added that any nation that would not honor Iran's identity and independence would have its "hands cut off."
Meanwhile, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday to set up a joint UAE-Iran committee.
The MoU was signed during UAE Foreign Minster Sheikh 'Abdullah Bin Zayyid Al Nahyan's visit to Teheran.
"We shall push the relations toward a horizon that will serve the interests of the two peoples," Bin Zayyid told reporters after the signing ceremony.
The MoU may facilitate the setting up of a joint security organization between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), of which the UAE is a member.
The GCC's secretary general, 'Abd A-Rahman Bin Hamad Al-'Atiyya, is currently holding a series of meetings with Iranian officials in Teheran.

OZYMANDIAS
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

I haven't been selfish before, but someone sticking a gun to my head and others' for more national ponzi schemes gets me feeling like clinging to my religion, guns and my money. going to be hiding funds in any tax shelter I can find. 2K in charity last year, which I am not able to deduct is goin' somewhere else this coming year.
I was part of a small business startup a few years back - 1 silent owner, owner/salesman, 1 autocad/estimator, 1secretary/accts rec, and me fabricator/foreman of myself and 5% off the books owner.
500K in first 6 months, 1 million in the 2nd 6 months and up to 8 guys in the shop. But we barely made payroll most of the time and you bet quarterlies were a massive kick in the nuts for the owners of a small s-corp with our on the book profits - basically eliminated what little there was. so great lets jack that up.

re: #273 Noam Sayin'
I'm hiding in my basement.
Last year was just atrocious. I went through about $100 in candy in a little over 90 minutes.
And they kept coming for quite a while afterwards - far more children than I know exist in the surrounding neighborhoods.
I turn off the porch light when I see cars drop of loads of kids.
The funniest part about Halloween is an hour after the little kids are done, stoned teenagers with pillowcases and no costumes start making the rounds.

Not only that he back stabbed McCain. McCain has been courting Powell for years, it was McCain who recommended Micheal Powell for the FCC. To rub salt in the wound Powell deliberately delayed his announcement till late, for maximum influence.

Ok. last week I had the nerve to point out that Colin Powell is a patriotic American and I was cursed roundly for my opinion.
I still think Powell is a patriotic American for the following reasons:
He is joining the winning side and that may not be a bad thing. The man is canny and obviously has great survival instincts.
He has vast experience in the dirty business known as international diplomacy.
Who would you rather be defense Secretary, Powell, or Bill Ayers?
Are you really arguing that being "canny" and a "survivor" is to be respected, or even honored with the Patriot title? Doing the "dirty business of international diplomacy" (read, roll with it) is somehow a testament to his patriotism? You really do dishonor to those who do have principals.
As for the Ayers comparative that is just a silly straw man and you know it.
It is clear, at least to me, that Powell has thrown in where he sees he is personally best served. I don't think it is race. I do think it is petty revenge.

Obama then crossed the street with Sasha. At least one video cameraman who was not part of Obama's traveling press corps followed him for a while. Obama grew visibly irritated.

Back when you were soliciting ideas for possible angles on Obama I posted this suggestion and then just a few days later you amazed me with the report about Obama's days at Columbia. You have produced some of the finest genuine journalism in this campaign. The MSM has been reduced to nothing more than a cheering section for Obama. What was so striking about it was that no one from Columbia remembered anything about him. That's really hard to imagine. Where are his former classmates or buddies? Surely someone would come out bragging about how they knew Obama back in his college days, There must be some reason none of them have done that. I just can't figure out what it is. My best guess is what they remember would be damaging to Obama and they don't want to be the one to knock over the house of cards.

I call BS. Patriotic but misguided by twisted thinking. And he is apparently comfortable with Sen. Obama's friends. Sen Obama hasn't changed, these people are still his friends. They are just waiting quietly in the shadows.

Though the VB members have not committed any violent crimes yet, they are just postponing them and waiting until they have an absolute majority. hmmmm - the photo juxtaposed with this from Ayaan Hirsi Ali:
I would ban the VB [Vlaams Belang] because it hardly differs from the Hofstad group [a Jihadist terror network in the Netherlands, involved in the assassination of Theo van Gogh]. Though the VB members have not committed any violent crimes yet, they are just postponing them and waiting until they have an absolute majority. On many issues they have exactly the same opinions as the Muslim extremists: on the position of women, on the suppression of gays, on abortion. This way of thinking will lead straight to genocide.
Paul Belien of Brussels Journal is deeply connected with the Vlaams Belang, and Robert knows this. The fact that he's put them back in his blogroll speaks volumes about the choice he's made.
And Gates of Vienna has turned into a reeking sewer of racism. I'm done with Robert Spencer. And very, very disappointed in him.

I'm a bad man, so I've already stereotyped the patrons by sight. One table worries me. A lot. Big guy. Muddy boots, flannel shirt.
I'm generally very open-minded about people who look "different," but a few years ago I was in a record store when a kid--early 20's probably--headed down the aisle where I was browsing. He was in shabby clothes, with freaky hair and several very odd piercings through various parts of his face. As I said, I am open-minded about people, but his look seemed to me like it also came with an attitude. So I made no move to get out of his way, as I would usually do. Maybe I had an attidue of my own for a few minutes.
As he came up alongside me, and couldn't get through, he said to me, "Excuse me sir, could I squeeze by?"
I'm not really proud of that moment, and I haven't made the same mistake since.

Careful, they're probably not from Microsoft. Spyware/malware/viruses are gettign VERY sneaky. I just spent a week on a PC cleaning out registry problems from a very nasty virus that locked out administrator privileges, and denied access to the "processes" screen.
This little nasty also tricks the user into turning off the firewall with some pretty sneaky official "Windows-looking" apps.

I understand your position, but how long does it take for that low-end PC to become a major headache for the low-end user? Registry problems come to mind, and they are present in every Windows machine, no matter what one spends.
Even with the "cost-savings" of a low end PC, the thing is a brick in a year, bogged down and virus-ridden, having already cost the user a lot of time. By now, this user wants a new one, or is taking it to computer repair people to re-load the OS. more time and $.
For low-end, I recommend a mac-mini off craigslist. The thing'll last for a long time with no OS maintenance.

Liberal Larry explains Obama’s economic plan and the peanut butter sandwich:
[Sarcasm]
He [Obama] just wants to share his peanut butter and jelly sandwich with all the people of this country. Well, not quite everyone. Just those who need it the most. And it's not exactly HIS peanut butter and jelly sandwich he wants to share, either. After 8 long years of Bush's failed capitalist policies, the nation's peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are now unfairly concentrated in the hands of a small few [like George Soros]. While the proletariat has been living hand to mouth, the richest 1% have been gorging themselves on sandwiches made from the peanut butter and jelly of the working class.
In fact, the sole reason you don't have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is because a rich guy somewhere has two. Obama just wants to liberate a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from their greedy cakeholes and spread them around a little, so that all Americans can have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's not Socialism, it's compassion. And President Obama plans to be pretty compassionate with other peoples' peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, believe you me.

I liked the Truth About Muhammed. I think it is pretty spot on. It is hard to keep from hating the Islamonazis when one understands what they are all about. Frankly, I am prejudiced against the Mohammedans. I'm also prejudiced against neo-Nazis and the Klan. I don't need to know any more about them other than the beliefs that being in these kind of groups represent.
So I wasn't (and am not) troubled by Spencer's book. I am troubled with his apparent embrace of the neo-Nazi movement that we are seeing with VB, BJ, GoV, etc. We can win this war without the "help" of those kind of people bring. I have always suspected that the reason people are embracing these groups it that they want to have access to hard-core thugs if it comes down to it, but they don't want to get their hands dirty.
I have no need of that (if it comes to it, I have no qualms about getting my hands dirty), and have no desire to soil myself with these types of "allies". We could very easily "win" the War with their help only to lose the next war against out putative allies when they decide that they can come after us.
We don't need them to win, and have a lot of downside to being associated with them. We don't need them.

-S-
That's a good one. I started back on Apple ][ and never switched, I've had PCs and run Vista on my MacBook Pro.
My decisions are based on TOC, yes a Mac is more up front. But in all the years I've run Mac I've seldom had hardware problems, when I do have problems service especially at Apple stores is excellent, I've walked in with recently purchase stuff that had issues and walked out in minutes with a replacement. I keep my macs longer than PC life cycles. I spend far less time futzing with OS issues, all those little things that seem to crop up in windows, drivers, dlls, registery, virus, that take away productive time.
If MacOS was 80 of the market, it would be the target of all the worms, viruses and trojans. The crackers are going for bang. However OSX with it's UNIX core is inherently more resist to that type of stuff.
So in the end my decision is based more on what works best than anything else. Linux still requires a far amount of geekiness to get to run optimally but is some distros are much better.

I just came back from early voting for McCain. I an now officially a selfish, bitter, gun-clinging redneck racist wingnut!
To celebrate, here's something I'd like to pass on:
Jack Tapper of ABC list all of the goodies promised by Obama in just one stump speech. The list is really staggering, even more so than the usual political BS. It is way to long to excerpt here. There are so many outrageous ones, its hard for me to even pick a favorite. But here are a few good ones:
"eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in 10 years"
Uh, right. We are going to completely eliminate half the fuel coming into the economy in 10 years.
"lower premiums" for those who already have health insurance;...
"end discrimination by insurance companies to the sick and those who need care the most";Perfect. We are going to prevent insurance companies from dong any risk management, we are going to pile on even more "must cover" rules for all kinds of crap from acupuncture to mental health, and by doing so we are going to lower premiums.
This may be my favorite, though:
"reopen old factories, old plants, to build solar panels, and wind turbines"
LOL. Barrack is going to open some of those old GM plants in Flint, Michigan and build solar panels. Seriously, is this a rhetorical flourish or does he really believe that factories are generic production facilities that can make anything, kind of like those little buildings you make in an RTS?
Update: And if you think that voters just discount all this stuff, don't miss this video of Obama supporters talking about the free gas and house she is going to get.
By the way, none of this will push me to vote for McCain. McCain promises all kinds of crazy stuff too, its just less compelling stuff to voters. He is not losing because he is promising less -- I think he is losing because Obama has a better grasp of what expensive shit people want to be promised than does McCain.

His attacks on Michael Totten and Glenn Reynolds for claiming that moderate muslims might exist and his support for genocidal Serbs indicated that he was headed this direction anyways.
I'll clarify that he says he doesn't support genocide. I think Totten always makes great points with his point of view. The Glenn Reynolds things I looked at briefly and it didn't mean anything to me from either viewpoint.
I expect that he talked to both and established some common ground with them leading to the blogroll. From that high thin air that we aren't breathing in here.

A certain Albanian atheist poster and I were banging on this theme for some time back in the day, that the cut of the jib of this Spencer fellow was not as likeable as one might, uh, like. Colour me unsurprised. I absolutely guarantee you that the Lady M, for her part, is dancing around right now to the strains of New Order's "Told You So".
There have been signs for months that this was in the works. Spencer's pro-Crusades contribution to the "Politically Incorrect Guide" series was a freakin' HUGE sign. Providing the blurb to the obscurantist P.I.G. Guide To The Bible was, in my view, worse.
My understanding, which I believe I shared with That Other Commenter, was that Spencer holds himself as a believer in European civilisation as European, and defines Europe in magical terms. He always claimed that his beliefs were Catholic - and maybe they would be, in Pope Innocent III's Vatican.
I hope everyone has learnt something. You see someone ranting about "culture", no matter how well you think you know him, watch out.

OSX is a bit less prone to bloat as well. ran my 400mhz imac until 10.5. Never did crash/kernal panic, and still have yet to on my new imac. And I transfered the whole mess of profiles/setting off the old machine. And I practice unsafe surfing. To crash OSX, ya have to open up your box and piss on it.

Okay, I hope this hasn't already been posted but I'm too lazy to search the thread. I got the following e-mail from the McCain/Palin campaign:
The State of the Campaign
If your television is tuned to cable news as frequently as ours are here at campaign headquarters, you have seen the pundits say John McCain and his campaign are done. And, if you've followed this race since the beginning, this is clearly a song you've heard before. I wanted to take some time today to give you some insight on the state of the race as we see it.
An AP poll released this morning revealed a very telling fact: ONE out of every SEVEN voters is undecided. That means, if 130 million voters turn out on Tuesday, 18.5 million of them have yet to make up their mind. With that many votes on the table and the tremendous movement we've seen in this race, I believe we are in a very competitive campaign.
Here's why:
All the major polls have shown a tightening in the race and a significant narrowing of the numbers. In John McCain's typical pattern, he is closing strong and surprising the pundits. We believe this race is winnable, and if the trajectory continues, we will surpass the 270 Electoral votes needed on Election Night.
National Polls: Major polls last week showed John McCain trailing by double-digit margins - but by the middle of this week, we were within the margin of error on four national tracking surveys. In fact, the Gallup national tracking survey showed the race in a virtual tie 2 days this week.
State Polls:
Iowa - Our numbers in Iowa have seen a tremendous surge in the past 10 days. We took Obama's lead from the double digits to a very close race. That is why you see Barack Obama visiting the state in the final days, trying to stem his losses. It is too little, too late. Like many other Midwestern states, Iowa is moving swiftly into McCain's column.
The Southwest - It is no secret that Republican candidates in the Southwest have to focus on winning over enough Latino and Hispanic voters in Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado to carry them to victory. John McCain has overcome challenges Republicans face, and has made up tremendous ground in these states with these voters. For these voters, the choice has become clear, and you have seen a big change in the numbers. John McCain is now winning enough voters to perform within the margin of error - putting these states within reach.
Colorado - Barack Obama tried to outspend our campaign in Colorado during the early weeks of October and finish off our candidate in Colorado. However, after our visit early this week, we saw a tremendous rebound in our poll position, and Colorado is back on the map.
Ohio and Pennsylvania - Everyone knows that vote rich Ohio and Pennsylvania will be key battlegrounds for this election. Between the two: 41 electoral votes and no candidate has gotten to the White House without Ohio. Senator McCain and Governor Palin have been campaigning non-stop in these key battleground states and tonight Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has pumped up our campaign at a rally in Columbus. Our position in these states is strong and undecided voters continue to have a very favorable impression of our candidate.

This will, obviously, be my last post here.
I am not a racist or a race supremacist, and oppose all racism and race supremacism. I have explained many times that I believe a race-based approach to the jihad resistance is wrong. I explained in my post about Fjordman that I didn't believe that he was a racist or a race supremacist. If you all believe that that judgment in itself makes me a racist, I respectfully suggest that this is a logical leap that is unwarranted.
The jihad threat is very large, and has nothing to do with race, but everything to do with ideology. I don't agree in every detail with all those who are fighting it, or with every wording they have ever chosen, or with every emphasis they have. But I am more interested in building alliances and coalitions than with anathematizing those who don't agree with me on every detail. And no, this does not mean that I am interested in building alliances or coalitions with any actual race supremacists, neofascists, or neo-Nazis. Such people are always and everywhere to be opposed.
That's all. Good luck.

McCain/Palin campaign e-mail, continued:
Obama campaign faces tremendous structural challenges in the final days of this campaign
Obama has a challenge hitting 50%: Barack Obama has not reached the 50% threshold in almost any the battleground state. He consistently is performing in the 45-48% range. When we look closely at the primary votes, we see a history of a candidate whose Election Day performance is often at or behind his final polling numbers. If this is true, our surge will leave Obama with even or under 50% of the vote on Election Day.
Early Vote: The Obama campaign has promised that their early vote and absentee efforts will change the composition of the electorate. They have sold the press on a story that first time voters will turn out in droves this election cycle. Again, the facts undermine their argument. In our analysis of early voting and absentee votes to date: The composition of the electorate has not changed significantly and most folks who have voted early are high propensity voters who would have voted regardless of the high interest in this campaign.
Expanding the Field: Obama is running out of states if you follow out a traditional model. Today, he expanded his buy into North Dakota, Georgia and Arizona in an attempt to widen the playing field and find his 270 Electoral Votes. This is a very tall order and trying to expand into new states in the final hours shows he doesn't have the votes to win.
The Final Barnstorm
On Monday, we will have a 14 state rally with our candidates crisscrossing the country trying to turn out our voters and sway the final undecided voters. Governor Palin will hit Ohio, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada and Alaska in the final day of campaigning, while Senator McCain will travel from Tampa, Florida, to Virginia, then Pennsylvania, Indiana, New Mexico, Nevada and finish the night in Prescott, Arizona. The enthusiasm and excitement we generate on Monday will be the electricity that powers our "Get Out the Vote" efforts on Tuesday.
On the Ground
Our field organization has tremendous energy and is out-performing the Bush campaign at the same time in 2004. This week our field organization crossed a huge threshold and began reaching more than one million voters per day, and by week's end will have contacted more than 5 million voters. Our phone centers are full and our rate of voter contact is significantly out-pacing the Bush campaign in 2004. We have the resources to do the voter contact necessary to support the surge we are seeing in our polling with old fashioned grassroots outreach.

Last part of McCain/Palin campaign e-mail:
On the Airwaves
In the final days of the campaign, our television presence will be bigger and broader than the Obama campaign's presence. The full Republican effort - the RNC's Independent Expenditure and the McCain campaign will out-buy Barack Obama and the Democrats by just about 10 million dollars.
In short: the McCain campaign is surging in the final 72 hours. Our grassroots campaign is vibrant and communicating to voters in a very powerful way. Our television presence is strong. And, we have a secret ingredient - A candidate who will never quit and who will never stop fighting for you and for your families.
In these final hours, Senator McCain and Governor Palin are counting on you - they are counting on you to knock on doors, to make turnout calls, to contact your friends and neighbors. Get our voters to the polls and help John McCain fight for your and for our country. This is our last mission on behalf of John McCain and I have no doubt I can count on your effort and energy to carry us across the line to victory.
Cross your fingers and hope they aren't just blowing smoke.

They key to Vista is a honkin' big graphics card.
I've put Vista on a bunch of test machines to test software and hardware drivers.
Ignore MS recommended minimums for Vista.
Processor: Multicore or Multi proc is better, much better. Dual core or dual proc at 2Ghz out preforms a single at 3.4Ghz.
Memory: 2GB RAM, faster is better, more is better.
Graphics: Any machine with graphics on the motherboard, where main RAM and the CPU help with graphics task IS SCREWED. You need a AGP 8x or PCI-Express card with 256MB for EACH screen you run. Vista is a graphics hog, and any deficiencies in that area bog it down big time.

One last -- pardon me, I know I said I was done, but I had not read all the comments above, particularly from Charles, which comments deeply sadden me.
The statement that I have "embraced the neo-Nazi movement" is false, and libelous. Charles, you and your friends here are now in the position of saying that everyone who doesn't believe these people (Fjordman, Belien, etc.) are neo-Nazis must themselves be neo-Nazis. Well, Ian Buruma recently published an article in the LA Times saying that the European anti-immigration parties were not neo-Nazis. Diana West has written the same thing in articles that have been picked up at the National Review and quoted favorably by Roger Kimball at Pajamas Media.
Unless you all are prepared to say that Buruma, the LA Times, West, Kimball, and National Review have "embraced the neo-Nazi movement," you can't logically say it about me.
Now that really is all.

If you saw the stats I saw, what's really striking is that in early-voting states overall, while there's a slight increase in early voting this year, it's not enough to support the Democratic promises of much higher turnout this year. African-American participation is up, but youth participation is about the same.

Boy, does he have you fooled, robert.

Hi Raw. I wish I lived where you live. Sounds fun. Every wee kid gets to dress up as a fantasy character. When my daughter was small, she was a different insect every year -- except when she was four-years-old and a blue fairy. My teen son was a Hasidic Jew last year. I hope that doesn't offend anyone.
I had a little *girl* dressed in a bright blue burka - complete with the face screen at my door tonight. I was so taken aback by surprise!
It really gave me the chills.

Please show me where Fjordman has promoted the mass deportation of Muslim citizens. I have not seen him say that.
In any case, whether he says it or not, I do not support the mass deportation of Muslim citizens. You all seem to be assuming that someone who supports one thing someone else says supports everything he says. That is a false assumption.
PLEASE don't do this, Mr. Spencer. I respect your writings so much. Please don't sully your ability to educate people by associating with those who advocate alliances with white supremacists and the worst sorts of xenophobic European nationalists. Geert Wilders doesn't do that, and he lives in the belly of the beast. It's easier for you. Please, please, reject them until they stand on the side of civilized westerners, those who don't throw over one form of fascism for another.

re: #727 mich-again
Fjordman has promoted mass deportation of Muslim citizens. That is more than just a "detail" about him. It defines his whole grand strategy.
It may be that this is the only solution. When the time comes and nothing else has worked, is this solution better than bending over in submission?
We do not win by allowing ourselves to be fragmented from others who would support us.
Islam is an ideology we must stop before we have to face the grand question, "When a group is determined to the last person to wipe out you, your family, your friends, your nation by any means available, is it still evil to commit genocide on them before they can commit genocide on you?"
Sit on the situation long enough and that is the question you will have to ask.
Fjordman may be right when the situation becomes extreme enough. It appears it may be extreme enough in some parts of Europe. I don't see it as being wrong to say, "Pick up your belongings, sell your property, and leave. You do not belong here." (I do see something wrong with what I see coming in the future when BOTH sides declare "get out or die." I see something wrong with plundering these people as we invite them to leave. But strongly inviting them to leave is just fine with me.)
I suppose that makes ME a racist about to be banned from here. So be it.
I will not submit. That means I will do ANYTHING that I can manage to avoid submitting, including genocide if need be. I've made peace with my tough question above. Consider it and then consider what you do next.

I'm sure I've seen this strawman before as well. It's not about defining people as neo-nazis, the problem is with anyone who promotes a racial nationalist agenda. And that has always been the problem with Brussels Journal, Pamela, Fjordman, and yourself, and that is why we have seen you trot out the same lame responses that they have already done before you.

If McCain wins then the usual fringe element will jump up and down and cry but as in 2000 their paranoid fantasies will go nowhere. If Obama's cronies steal this election then between a third and two thirds of the nation will soon be convinced that the government is not legitimate. How will he govern? Can anyone expect the officers of the law enforcement and military services to obey orders from someone who was inserted by fraud and foriegn money? The wilder conspiracy theories, that this site has worked to keep out of the contest, will spread like a cancer as all traditional sources of information and outlets for authority, accuracy and soveriegnty stand discredited.

Just for Charles' blue posts somewhere in the 600's (which is about where I came in). I had only just heard of RS, but I gather racism, and not the kind we joke about.
Just looked through Roberts posts for the last week and they all started tonight with what I thought was a fairly beneign post that did not threaten anyone. Quote
"This will, obviously, be my last post here.
That's all. Good luck."
I haven't looked at Roberts posts previously but this was a well reasoned post undeserving of the threat of exile. Sorry, Charles. I call 'em the way I see 'em. It's your blog, but many of us have issues with its either your way or the highway policy. We are not monolithic thinkers here, and deserve a little lee-way to debate and explore possibilites and conjecture.
