Bali Bomber Executions Imminent

World | Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 11:52:48 am PDT

Mukhlas and Amrozi, two of the Islamic terrorists who carried out the 2002 nightclub bombings in Bali, will soon be put down. And then they’ll be buried with honors in their home town.

After the brothers are executed with fellow terrorist Imam Samudra, a sentence which could be carried out as early as tomorrow, their corpses will be flown by helicopter to their home village of Tenggulun in East Java.

A helipad, marked with a large white H, has been built in a paddock close to town. Nearby, the cemetery is planted with frangipani trees. It is also the resting place of their father, Nur Hashyim.

Family spokesman Abu Chozin said the family was very angry and disappointed that they haven’t been told when the executions would take place. “This is a very bitter experience for us,” he said. “It is a hard lesson but the deaths of the two brothers is for the cause of Islam.”

Village opinion is mixed. Nice to see that some retain their humanity:

"THE mother of two of the Bali bombers on death row says her sons were right to "kill infidels", as they prepare to face firing squads over the attacks which killed 202 people.
...
"I feel that killing infidels isn't a mistake because they don't pray," she said as she sat on the stone floor of the family home surrounded by Amrozi's children and wife.
...
"Neighbours in the village expressed little sympathy for Amrozi and Mukhlas.
"They should be executed because all of us should be peaceful toward one another," said Sulastri, a neighbour. "

OT: As Verasun (VSE) Goes Chapter 11, The Ethanol Industry Faces Serial Failures

The most prominent ethanol energy company in the US, Verasun (VSE), is filing for Chapter 11. Among other things the firm has been pinched by falling oil prices, which make ethanol less attractive, and rising corn prices, which makes production more expensive.

When oil was at $147 a barrel, ethanol was a savior for car and truck drivers everywhere.

The ethanol industry built tremendous production and transportation infrastructure. It was a "if we build it, the will come" strategy. Then, the world fell apart. Prices for gas at the pump are back down well below $3 instead of being headed toward $5 as they were in August.

Verasun says it will keep operating, but common shareholders have been crushed to death. The stock was at nearly $18 late last year. Now it is under $.40.

The next companies that stockholders need to be concerned about are Pacific Ethanol (PEIX), which has dropped from a one-year high of almost $10 to $.90 and ADM (ADM), which is too big to fail but could get nicked by the industry fallout.

Until oil moves back above $100, ethanol companies are in a coma.

Those Muslims who truly believe that suicide bombers die "for the cause of Islam" discredit their religion and disgrace themselves, for they are guilty of aiding and abetting terrorism and murder. Those who idolize and praise terror, even family members of the terrorists, do not deserve to be tolerated but should themselves be shunned and spat upon.

/in which case, it sucks to be Israel

That's absurd.

There wouldn't be any anti-Israeli bias in an Obama administration. Israel would be abandoned at the first sign of trouble just like every other country threatened by terrorists and tyrants (ie. Georgia, the Ukraine, Iraq, Lebanon, etc.)

OT -

I have a jar full of fortunes from Hawaii. It is a small ceramic vessel with a cork lid and it is full of small wooden beads with tiny pieces of paper rolled up inside each one. You shake them and pick one and you will get your fortune or some other bit of wisdom. Last night I said to the vessel - OK baby this one is for McCain, and here is what it said:

E hana mau i ka pono, a e iho mai no ka lani. Which translates:
By persevering in doing what is right, blessings will come to you from the heavens.

That goes for all the Lizards on this site. We do persevere in doing what is right and we will reap the benefits. GO MCCAIN.

That is lovely!
And - its a very wise saying.

Protests are planned:

The authorities are also concerned over potential unrest at the southern Java fishing port of Cilacap, where the bodies would have been brought from the prison island if they were being transported as usual by car to their villages.

Security has been visibly boosted with armoured anti-riot vehicles patrolling the town amid reports that hundreds of Islamist radicals are preparing to rally in protest against the executions.

...

"Some of the bombers' supporters are hoping to build shrines and monuments in honour of the executed "holy warriors."
One sympathiser has even suggested burying them together in a new "martyrs cemetery."
Cecep Hermawan, of the hardline Islamic Reformist Movement, said he had offered a hectare of land in Cianjur, West Java, as the last resting place for the three bombers and others like them.
"They should be champions of Islam, good and honest people. Having a shrine would strengthen the bond among the families of these fighters," Mr Hermawan said.
"For the three men, the movement is willing to foot the funeral costs. I have approached their families and they have said 'no problem'."

BTW, our favorite vacation resort is Nemacolin, just a few miles from Uniontown

NEMACOLIN! I've driven by but never stopped. It looks lovely. Well, you probably have driven thru the little hamlet we lived in prior to our move to the 'burg - Hopwood. There used to be a little grocery store there named Bunda's - they had monkeys in the back parking lot.

OMG, YES, I recall Hopwood! If you get the chance, treat yourself to a weekend at Nemacolin. It's our favorite vacation spot.

We're just now enduring a massive fireworks display - quite pretty, I'm sure, but it terrifies Miss Dog, she's just hid udner the table. Its a public display, for charity - and seems to finish now.

Thank God its cold, and raining, so the little vandals won't be too keen to go out and let lose some private noise bangs, wimps that they are.

Victim of deadly Bali blast remembered as 'priceless gift' in hometown of Midland

Associated Press

MIDLAND — Bali bomb ing victim Jake Young was remembered Wednesday as a low-key man who didn't seek praise for his successes and who beamed with joy at the prospects of being a father.

"Jake Young was special, a priceless gift to be treasured and remembered," the Rev. Bob Hopkins, associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Mid land, told the nearly 800 people who attended Young's memorial service."We know that longevity alone is not a proper criterion for evaluating the significance of life."

Young's life apparently ended instantly Oct. 12 when a bomb went off in a nightclub district on the Indonesian island of Bali.

Hopkins told the congregation that in remembering Young they should remember that life is precious and short.

To the Young family: May God bless you in your sorrow.

Notice the "Just Do It!" Tee-shirt on the woman posing in front of the monument.
I had very mixed feelings when I took this picture.
I'd been to both nightclubs many times before the bombings. Now one is rebuilt at another location and the other, The Sari Club, is a vacant lot.
Missed the bombing by months.
And the LOCALS were PISSED about it.
