Humor | Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 1:11:14 pm PST

The “Keith Olbermann” segment from Saturday Night Live — dead on target (but as usual, way too long).

Only watched a couple minutes. It goes on and on like most SNL skits. When will they learn, less is more.

Olbermann is such a putz.

Maybe they can ask Keith to comment. After all, when a Democrat candidate looks bad, isn't it the timing that's in question?

Saw this on Hot Air while ago - Afflect has so many of KO's mannerisms down and it's pretty funny. But waaaaayyyy too long. It should have been 5 minutes, tops.

Could we somehow require that all SNL skits be no more than 3-5 minutes? Around 3 minutes they hit lame-o.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a presidential election where so many people are blind to the truth. I find it mind boggling and beyond my comprehension.

Can people really be that stupid?

Since we're talking about TV, did you see Joe the Plumber on Cavuto?
Cavuto kept muscling him into a corner ("McCain has these policies, too") and Joe kept coming back at him! This is a guy that Obama fell over by accident.
America is a great country.

I have not watched one second of MSNBC. I will have to if McCain wins just for the hilarity that is going to ensue. It will be a perpetual SNL skit!

definitely on the long side, but pretty funny. I swear though I heard some nuts in the crowd who started to clap or hoot because they actually agreed with what this characterization was saying.

i could also tell, through stifled laughs, that some people didn't know if they should laugh at or not.

They are being purposely obtuse. They think that if they wish hard enough, the world will be an ideal place tomorrow Wednesday morning. This is not, to the moonbats, about the men running, or what they represent, this is about the (D) next to the name of the candidate. As long ad that (D) is elected, they do not care about the person whose name appears alongside the (D). It is as dangerous and stupid as passing out blasting caps to toddlers to celebrate the 4th of July.

I disagree. This is about the big "S," the socialist, Obama. These people want a Euro-styled socialism in our country. Many of Obama's supporters may not be able to argue the fine details about socialism, but they know what he is promising, and that's what they want. So, it doesn't matter if they have any awareness of the pitfalls of socialism or the history of socialism, but they do know they want it.

35 CyanSnowHawk  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 1:28:46pm

I watched that last night. It was very good, but like Charles said, it went too long. That seems to be one of the big problems with SNL. Maybe should shorten the show to an hour, since they only seem to have an hours worth of material.

Slightly OT:

I seem to have found an anthem for Nobama campaign.

"Something For Nothing"

Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
Countless ways
You pass the days

Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Looking for an answer
To the question you have found
Looking for
An open door

You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be

What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your own song

You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be

Remember when he accused Palin of violating military security when she announced that her son Track and his unit were about to deploy to Iraq? In fact, the deployment had been announced publicly weeks before and a big send-off rally had been planned well before Palin's selection as McCain's running mate. Overbight ignored all this and made an ominous speech about military plans and troop movements being national security secrets, the betrayal of which was a serious crime. To the best of my knowledge, he never retracted this idiotic statement.

FCC Probe Signals Democratic Attack Machine

A Federal Communications Commission investigation of on-air military analysts is providing a glimpse of what Democrats and an Obama administration will do to critics once they capture Washington.

The FCC has sent letters to some of the nation's most prominent military analysts -- some of them pro-President Bush and pro-war -- suggesting they may have broken the law when they appeared on television stations to comment on and explain the war on terrorism.

The FCC investigation raises the question of whether a Democrat-controlled Congress and White House next year will investigate -- and perhaps criminalize -- all sorts of actions taken by the Bush administration. Obama is leading in all presidential polls, while Democrats are set to greatly increase their hold on the House and Senate.

/first they came for the Generals . . .

The FCC letters came at the behest of two House Democrats, who say the analysts parroted on air the private briefings they received at the Pentagon. This may have broken the law, the lawmakers said.

79 buckytheinfidel  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 1:43:48pm

I have seen Keith Olbermann's show, very briefly, while I was in my hotel room at Disney World. You see, Disney, for some reason, doesn't carry Fox news, only local channels, the Caliphate News Network, MSNBC, and assorted other stuff. So I was in my room one evening, turned on the tv, was bored by the sight of the same old crap on CNN and clicked the channel changer.

What did my wondering eyes behold but Mr. Olbermann in full rant. It was worse than watching Charles Grodin have one of his temper tantrums (I used to watch those out of a morbid fear that he was going to have a stroke and I would be the only person to call 911, because Lord knows, no one else was watching that poor bastard.).

I sat there, dumbstruck, as he screamed at the camera for about three or four minutes, I dunno, it seemed like an eternity. Finally, my mother, hearing the screaming and fearing I was under attack, came into the room and rescued me. I think she changed the channel or something. I don't remember. When I came to, it was the next morning and I was at the swimming pool.

Anyhow, Ben Affleck gave me flashbacks.

Why did you cut cable? If you don't mind saying, that is. I still think of the song, "57 channels and there's nothing on" pretty frequently, but I think I'd lose my mind if I couldn't get Fox and the Weather Channel.

Because I didn't want to pay to discover that song was right. Every once in awhile, I regret I don't have it for a special program, but for the most part, I don't miss it because I rarely watch tv at all any more.

Sorry to go OT but here's an editorial by Cal Thomas that might be a good one to pass on to your e-mail lists, etc., also posted in the links.

"Electing Barack Obama president of the United States would be a roll of loaded dice. We will live (and possibly die) to regret it. Republicans have made many mistakes and deserve the punishment they are now getting, but the one charge that cannot be laid at their doorstep is that they wanted to re-write the Constitution and weaken the country.

Obama will do that and more. Wake up, America, and stop flirting with this guy because you are flirting with potential disaster."

Drudge had a story about Olberman going to the studio to watch the rehearsal of this. He wasn't expected, apparently and Affleck (understandably) was rather uncomfortable. Of course in the comments on the article Olby's lackeys were screaming how it was insane that anyone would think Keithy was being heavy-handed by showing up like he did -- he just wanted to see what they were going to do!

Of course, if anyone's been there they know that Olby could have watched the rehearsal from the internal feed in the building right in his office or dressing room.

But that wouldn't have made his point, would it?

Affleck did a great job. It's long, but it's funny throughout, IMO. I hope they do more like it. :)

Any disaster that results from an Obama presidency, from the nuking of Tel Aviv to a bottomless economic depression, can be laid firmly at the feet of the media-industrial complex and its characteristic internal culture. They are the true and literal enemy.
Many on the right are fond of saying that the media are the public relations arm of the Democratic party. It is the other way around: the Democratic Party is the political arm of the media culture.

"The medium is the message", to cite McLuhan. Never cared much for him, but maybe he is apropos in this case.

re: #156 kynna

Olby's lackeys (Keithers?) have especially short fuses and seem to be wound even tighter than their hero.

The Alaska governor also pointed to comments that Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden made to an environmental activist, promising no more coal-fired power plants in America. Good point.
And I have been wondering......................

Reagan could bypass the press by calling press conferences and scheduling speeches. Those were the days before cable became a major force. The stations would all air the speeches or press conferences and would preempt regular programming to do so.
Anyone watching TV would just be stuck with that.

Now viewers can just change the channel. The old networks can't afford to air presidential speeches, etc. when facing competition from those channels that don't air them. So they pick and choose what they want to air.

I think it's much harder for a president to reach people directly today,
and especially for a president the MSM itself doesn't want to promote.

When the President of the United States calls a press conference the networks air it. If it's important and well delivered the folks listen. Now there lies the problem.

Eh, well, the last eight years haven't been exactly highlights in rhetorical history.

However, anyone who thinks Obama speaks well hasn't been paying attention. I keep waiting for a coherent point to be made, and it never happens.

Only thing is, early voting ended on the 31st.

I have not watched one second of MSNBC. I will have to if McCain wins just for the hilarity that is going to ensue. It will be a perpetual SNL skit!

I think he is perfect for VH1's Celeb Rehab with Dr. Drew. He and Gary Busey could room together.

It's been a battle all day, but Five Reasons to Vote Against Obama has now topped Five Reasons to Vote Against McCain on the Herald site.

Top articles in News & Opinion
1. Five reasons to vote against Obama
2. Five reasons to vote against McCain

If you want to have a good laugh read the comments on the McCain column. It was written by Margery Eagan who is drowning in the tank for Barry and has a major case of full blown PDS.

This woman is a pure nut job and her reasons for voting for Obama are, well....silly and not very well reasoned out to be frank.

She quotes, “Even at McDonald’s, you’re interviewed three times before you get a job,” said former Reagan chief of staff Ken Duberstein in criticizing McCain’s non-vetting of Palin." She doesn't mention that Duberstein (the traitor) has come out wih a full endorsement of Barack Obama. Why wouldn't he slam Palin? Slap him down as a credible endorser.
She goes on: “Of course not,” said Lawrence Eagleburger, McCain backer and George H.W. Bush’s secretary of state, when asked this week if the Alaska governor could take over as commander in chief. “And I devoutly hope that (she) would never be tested.” Me too.
She doesn't mention he had also stated that many Vice Presidents have not been ready. The next day, in an interview on Fox News, he retracted his comments about Palin.

The rest of her article seems to be primarily Palin slapping.

Governor Palin must really scare the living hell out of these insecure type women.

There is tremendous confusion here between what is "black" and what is "southern." My father, who grew up in the Jim Crow South, was totally mystified by some of the things Yankees suddenly designated as "racist." Fried chicken and watermelon? That's a southern thing, and no southerner would have associated that with blacks.
Likewise what Yankees called "soul food" back then was just southern food. I am amused when people think words like "folks" are black. Or confuse a southern accent with a "black" accent.
It was Yankees who associated many of these things specifically with blacks.

5. obama is against expanding nuclear and coal. is against drilling for oil.
and will therefore make america even more dependent on foreign energy sources

6. obama's associations with unsavoury characters - like reverand wright and bill ayers.

7. "spread the wealth around" - obama is a socialist

8. obama is so pro-abortion its insane... all the way to supporting infanticide for live birth abortions

9. obama is a transnational and would cede american soveireignity in strategic decisions to the United Nations to a far greater extent

10. obama is anti-free trade and is a protectionist. which could tip the economy into depression - which is what happened in the 1930s.

Marge has lost it, but I understand. An aging, uninteresting, unattractive woman will always hate somone like Sarah Palin. It must be like high school all over again for poor Marge. Funny how she plays the role of the flighty dope who can't find her way out of a paper bag on her radio show, but she slams Palin for not being intelligent. I want McCain to win because I want to feel safe and I want to keep as much of my hard-earned money as possible. But I also want him to win so people like Marge and her sisters will have to endure four - maybe eight - years of the beautiful and talented Sarah Palin.

From a post over at Hot Air (by Patch), an interesting look at the top coal producing states, in light of Obama's "I'll bankrupt the coal industry" statement.

From Wikipedia

27 states produce coal. The major coal-producing states are (in descending order as of 2000, with annual production in thousands of short tons):

Wyoming (338,900).
West Virginia (158,257)
Kentucky (130,688)
Pennsylvania (74,619)
Texas (49,498)
Montana (38,352)
Illinois (33,444)
Virginia (32,834)
North Dakota (31,270)
Colorado (29,137)
Indiana (27,965)
New Mexico (27,323)
Utah (26,656)
Ohio (22,269)
Alabama (19,324)
Arizona (13,111)

Mac and Sarah are hammering O on it in every stop they make today, and will probably hammer again tomorrow. With the polls sliding in Mac's direction, this comes at a very good time.

Just got back from phone banking at McCain/Palin HQ. Made about 150 calls. I'd say about 75-80% were answering machines. The remainder: 1 for Obama, 3-4 refusals to answer, 3 undecided, and the rest were for McCain.

One guy who refused to answer asked me how much my mortgage payment was and if I cheated on my husband. That was a first!

Eh. I've been known to "toy" with telephone solicitors. On occasion I've asked what color underwear the caller was wearing. It has ended in abrupt terminations sometimes, but has actually led to interesting conversations on other occasions. On only two occasions has the caller stated she wasn't wearing any.
Most times I will obfuscate intentionally, asking question about the weather, locations, price of gas, etc... It gets to be a game to see if they will hang up first.

re: #300 Intrepid

From a post over at Hot Air (by Patch), an interesting look at the top coal producing states, in light of Obama's "I'll bankrupt the coal industry" statement.

From Wikipedia

27 states produce coal. The major coal-producing states are (in descending order as of 2000, with annual production in thousands of short tons):

Wyoming (338,900).
West Virginia (158,257)
Kentucky (130,688)
Pennsylvania (74,619)
Texas (49,498)
Montana (38,352)
Illinois (33,444)
Virginia (32,834)
North Dakota (31,270)
Colorado (29,137)
Indiana (27,965)
New Mexico (27,323)
Utah (26,656)
Ohio (22,269)
Alabama (19,324)
Arizona (13,111)

Mac and Sarah are hammering O on it in every stop they make today, and will probably hammer again tomorrow. With the polls sliding in Mac's direction, this comes at a very good time.

Total United States: 1,437,174

Well, probably not tomorrow, as they're in Nevada, which isn't a major coal-producing state.

re: #377 buzzsawmonkey

1) Nobody can point to any achievement that Obama can claim to his credit.

2) Obama's associates/alliances are, without exception, noxious: Rezko; Ayers & Dohrn; Wright; Pfleger; Khalidi. Maybe some of them aren't as important as others--but look at the number of noxious people he CHOSE to associate with, thought nothing wrong in associating with, and only ditched (at least in public) when it became a problem for him.

3) Obama's connections to ACORN as attorney and organizer/trainer; ACORN's vote fraud on his behalf (at least 10 states); ACORN's hand in creating and exacerbating the subprime mortgage mess which is the basis for the current financial crisis. Related: Obama's retention of Franklin Raines as an "economic advisor," and the large Fannie Mae campaign contribution he received.

4) The huge financial fraud of the Obama campaign: disconnecting the verification procedures on its website donations page which allowed to accept illegal foreign donations and donations under fake names without detection. Related: Obama's pledge to take public funds, then reneging when he found he could get more money by fraud. BTW, he has spent more on this campaign than both Kerry and Bush combined did in 2004.

5) The attempts by the Obama campaign to suppress free speech: the "Obama Truth Squad" in Missouri; the inundations of calls and emails orchestrated against any media outlet which has aired anything less than laudatory; the campaign's appeal, in one case, to the Justice Department; the investigations of "Joe the Plumber's" personal life. And this is without his being in office; imagine what free speech will be reduced to if he makes it.

6) Obama's call for a "national civilian security force" funded equally with the US military.

7) Obama's Amazing Shrinking Tax Floor. Is it $250,000? $200,000? $150,000? It keeps changing all the time.

8) Obama's desire to appoint federal judges who will not interpret the law, but will take into account people's background and circumstances rather than apply the law as written. "Social justice" replaces justice.

9) Obama's willingness to meet with terror leaders and enemies with fewer preconditions than he required to meet and debate with his opponent in this race.

10) Insert your own reason here: His opposition to the Second Amendment? His blatant playing of the race card in any and all circumstances? His commitment to "sharing the wealth?" His opposition to domestic drilling? His desire to bankrupt coal-fired plants? There are too many to choose from.

That's great! And any of those on their own is like, enough of a reason. It's amazing there could be at least 75 reasons why.

re: #265 wolfie

There is tremendous confusion here between what is "black" and what is "southern." My father, who grew up in the Jim Crow South, was totally mystified by some of the things Yankees suddenly designated as "racist." Fried chicken and watermelon? That's a southern thing, and no southerner would have associated that with blacks.
Likewise what Yankees called "soul food" back then was just southern food. I am amused when people think words like "folks" are black. Or confuse a southern accent with a "black" accent.
It was Yankees who associated many of these things specifically with blacks.

And many of the biggest racists are not from the South either. I was born in the North, lived a long time in Florida, now live in a Southern State. They have no idea about the people of the South who are for the most part gentle and generous and with a great deal of common sense. I am happy I live here....

I do like their coffee, so I patronize them, but I hate how they try to package a lifestyle, telling you what music is good, or to read the NY Times, or to buy Ethos bottled water because it somehow saves some impoverished kid in Africa (I guess the plastic bottles can be used to make a raft so the kid can cross the Atlantic to the US).

I'd also add the sheer fiscal irresponsibility of Obama's "money management". Has someone been keeping a tally on all the reams, and reams of money this guy has been running through -- rather it's the Annenberg Foundation millions to "educate" Chicago area kids (with zero demonstrable results), or his millions spent on booking Prime Time for his narcissistic "Ain't I great?" ad; or the zillions run up in campaigning blitzes; or his booking out the Chicago area parks for a preemptive "victory" celebration prior to finding out who's the actual "winner"; not to mention the Greek Columns; etc, etc. And, then voters are actually silly enough to believe that this jerk Obama is gonna "fix" America's financial worries? ? It's truly mind boggling...How many trillions upon trillions of dollars could this Bozo go through if ever elected POTUS?

I like how the reasons to vote against McCain aren't economic reasons, foreign policy reasons, social issues, or character. It's all about the Vice President. Hmmmm.

As Charles predicted when she was nominated, the media has been smearing her non-stop. They are hypocrites and scum. Palin's only crime is being a pro-life Republican. She threatens the Dem's hold on single women, and the threat must be neutralized.

I can't believe how many acquaintances of mine repeat the phony "not qualified" mantra about Palin...and when asked about Obama's qualifications, their answer is that he's run a great campaign.

Had a friend call her "power hungry" today.

Obama: not qualified, desperate for power, anti-US Constitution, socialist, bitter socialist wife, Presidential candidate.

Palin: successful mayor and governor; successfully cleans up corruption, does good things for the State of Alaska and its residents; honest...I trust her to do the right thing more than the other three combined; pro-freedom, pro-growth, pro-US Constitution; cute in glasses; can kill and dress large animals; VP candidate.

So, I had off Friday, and the group went across the street to the Starbucks as usual- and started talking about their own plans for election day. . .since EVERY one of them is scared to go to Grant!

So, she recognized my address and called me after Shabbos.

27 states produce coal. The major coal-producing states are (in descending order as of 2000, with annual production in thousands of short tons):

Wyoming (338,900).
West Virginia (158,257)
Kentucky (130,688)
Pennsylvania (74,619)
Texas (49,498)
Montana (38,352)
Illinois (33,444)
Virginia (32,834)
North Dakota (31,270)
Colorado (29,137)
Indiana (27,965)
New Mexico (27,323)
Utah (26,656)
Ohio (22,269)
Alabama (19,324)
Arizona (13,111)
Total United States: 1,437,174
