Soviet Doggies Bark for Barack

You have got to be kidding me.

Yesterday Zombie posted a photo of a silly Barack Obama poster featuring a barking dog, titled Bark for Barack!

But the original version of this poster was anything but silly. It’s a copy of a Soviet propaganda poster painted in the 1920s by Russian Constructivist artist Alexander Rodchenko.

Good grief. Someone pinch me.

I never in a million years expected this to make it into an LGF post!

Still getting over being stunned, but -- thanks, Big C!

As I commented in the previous thread:

Is there anything associated with Obama not soaked in Communism some way or another?

My update at the bottom of the post reads:

"Turns out even this innocuous bit of silliness has a communist connection. The “Bark for Barack” poster is based on this famous graphic design by Soviet artist Alexander Rodchenko, who “used photo montage to enhance his images to create more powerful images that would be used for propaganda for the USSR.”

20 Griffon  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 5:30:45pm

Okay, here it comes again--America has shown the knack for having the right person for the right time, in any given situation. Even a cursory look back through our history will bear this out. The stumbles ( Carter) merely point out the correct path to be taken.
I see no reason for this election to defy this tradition.

BARACK OBAMA'S REAL VIEWS ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT

CHICAGO, Oct 15, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The following is the text of an open letter to the nation's hunters and sportsmen issued today by Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson:

Fellow Sportsman,
Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association.

I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama's attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama.

Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month.

Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family.

Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner?

And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let's not forget Obama's pal George Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN's international effort to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people's money to fund his campaign to take your guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Violence.

CHANGE!
.

It would appear that people just do not care or just do not allow themselves to hear anything bad about Obama. It is mass hysteria. The abandonment of rationality. I have talked to people until I was about to burst a blood vessel, shown videos, trotted out diagrams and frigging pie charts...

People have lost their minds in this country.

Going to be a ruff four years.

I find it interesting that two summers in Israel, the kibbutz people were telling us how they are moving away from socialism so that their young people have opportunities to innovate (and don't leave for greener opportunities elsewhere). And then, what do you know, the U.S. starts moving toward socialism and the stultification that entails. Very weird.

Sargie, on the other hand, feels he should have everything provided for him simply because he is. Half way through walks, he just lays down, and keeps doing so until someone carries him.

I'm being reminded of the book, "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds," and the words therein: "Of all the offspring of Time, Error is the most ancient, and is so old and familiar an acquaintance, that Truth, when discovered, comes upon most of us like an intruder, and meets the intruder's welcome." A lot of the Obamabots appear to fit that description, and welcome truth as described in the quote.

re: #154 Racer X

I think part of the problem is that many Americans do not remember, or do not know, the extent of the atrocities committed by communists.

All they think of is Mcarthyism, and how it was bad to accuse someone of being a communist. Forget about actually being a communist.

In the 20th century Communists were responsible for far more deaths than the Nazis could have even dreamed of. But they don't teach that in school.

And speaking of McCarthy, the Venona project proved that nearly all the people he fingered as Commie spies working in the US government in the 1950's were, in fact, Commie spies working in the US government. Another tidbit they don't teach in school.

[Link: www.aldf.org...]

I'm usually not into "left-leaning" activism, but in this case it seems that dogs in MA don't fare very well.

In 2002, over 700 dogs were seriously injured on the tracks in Taunton and Revere. It's easy to overlook statistics, but remember that each dog is an individual with his or her own story. Each dog that could be someone's pet and live inside a warm house instead suffers extreme weather conditions and is made to work so hard he or she can't possibly sustain the lifestyle. Some of the injuries in 2002 included broken necks, crushed skulls, and sudden heart attacks that caused the dogs to drop dead on the racetrack. Of course, it is rare for an animal with a broken bone or other malaise to be treated - it is much more cost effective to simply kill him. This practice quickly turns into a systematic disposal when you consider that a thousand dogs are living together in cramped quarters without medical attention, participating in such a dangerous activity. Diseases are spread from dog to dog and delicate greyhound bones are routinely snapped in half. Most of the dogs injured and subsequently euthanized in 2002 were only 1-2 years old.

In Miami, FL, these greyhound racing centers tend to bring a lot of riff-raff to the area for the events.

re: #175 loggiedog

I met the people who created the petition for this law in Boston. They brought a rescued limping greyhound with them. These people told me that injured dogs are usually euthanized and rarely are they released to families to take care of them. That's not what I'd call humane, no matter how regulated the industry is.

Nonsense. We have dozens of injured greyhounds that make fine pets in good homes.

Greyhounds are very injury prone, even in a home setting. I can't tell you how many times mine have been in for cuts, scrapes, sprains, and breaks. It's the nature of the breed - whether they race or not.

COAL OFFICAL CALLS OBAMA COMMENTS UNBELIEVABLE

CHARLESTON - At least one state coal industry leader said he was shocked by comments Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made earlier this year concerning his plan to aggressively charge polluters for carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.

"What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there," Obama said in a Jan. 17 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that was made public today first on the Web site newsbusters.org, which calls itself "the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias." The story later was linked on The Drudge Report.

An audio excerpt from the interview can be found at YouTube.

"I was the first to call for a 100 percent auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter," Obama continued. "That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Calls and e-mails to West Virginia Obama campaign officials seeking comment for this story were not returned as of Sunday evening.

According to the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training, the coal industry provides about 40,000 direct jobs in the state, including those for miners, mine contractors, coal preparation plant employees and mine supply company workers.

Rodchenko wound up being too avant-garde for the Soviet establishment:

"...in 1928 Rodchenko was becoming subject to increasing criticism. As soon as his photographs were published in the magazine Novy LEF, the magazine Sowjetskoje commented his photographs as “dangerous” and “bourgeois formalism”. He was defamed as a follower of Moholy-Nagy’s and Man Ray’s experimental photography. The political reason was a stronger use of photography as a means for socialistic mass-communication, which should be clearly „readable“. Soviet publishers asked again for traditional landscape, portrait and documentary photography. In 1930 Rodchenko had to leave his teaching post at WChUTEMAS and in 1931 he was excluded from the group Oktjabr which had formed in 1928 from the group Novy LEF."

West Virginia is the second largest coal-producing state in the country behind Wyoming and accounts for about 15 percent of all coal production in the United States. The Mountain State leads the nation in underground coal production and leads the nation in coal exports with over 50 million tons shipped to 23 countries. West Virginia accounts for about half of U.S. coal exports.

In addition, the coal industry pays about $70 million in property taxes in the state annually, and the Coal Severance Tax adds about $214 million into West Virginia's economy. The coal industry payroll in the state is nearly $2 billion per year, and coal is responsible for more than $3.5 billion annually in the gross state product.

"The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster," Obama said in the San Francisco Chronicle interview. "What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as an ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it."

The senior vice president of the West Virginia Coal Association called Obama's comments "unbelievable."

"His comments are unfortunate," Chris Hamilton said Sunday, "and really reflect a very uninformed voice and perspective to coal specifically and energy generally."

Hamilton noted other times Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden have made seemingly anti-coal statements.

"In Ohio recently, when Joe Biden said 'not here' about building coal-fired power plants -- this is exactly what will happen," Hamilton said. "Financing won't be directed here. It will all go aboard for plants elsewhere in the world. The United Sates is importing more coal today from Indonesia, South Africa and Colombia than we ever have.

"If we're going to create a situation where coal-fired power plants are at that much of a disadvantage, there will be new ones built. But as Biden said, just not here."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain's state director said Obama's statements are troubling, especially for West Virginians.

"I think this clearly shows the attitude the Obama-Biden ticket has toward coal," Ben Beakes said Sunday. "Rhetoric is cheap, but behind closed doors what they tell their supporters - that's what we have to take as gospel.

"They're definitely not friends of coal."

Beakes noted other examples of Obama and Biden making seemingly anti-coal statements, such as in February when Obama said he'd like to tax "dirty energy" such as coal and natural gas.

"And their cohorts in Congress make similar statements," Beakes said. "(Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid (D-Nevada) said this summer that 'coal makes us sick.'

"This is an attitude and view that, to me, shows their hatred of coal. And therefore, their view would cost West Virginians thousands upon thousands of jobs."

Beakes touted McCain's view toward coal.

"John McCain has embraced coal," Beakes said. "He doesn't agree with everything in the coal industry, but his view of coal is positive. He will make it part of his energy policy. He's met with leaders in the coal industry and let them know that. He's sought advice from coal industry leaders.

"McCain understands that coal supports about 49 percent of our electricity in this country. He'll continue to make coal important. He wants to reduce our foreign dependency on oil."

Hamilton also said the Obama campaign needs to find varied sources for coal and energy advice.

"If they're victorious Tuesday, they'd better go to someone other than Al Gore on energy and environmental matters," he said. "They've tipped the balance way -- unnecessarily so -- toward protecting the environment."

I guess as long as they receive humane treatment along the way. I agree that they might be going a bit too far to perform a blanket ban on racing. Perhaps they should have crafted the proposal to improve the quality of life for greyhounds in MA, rather than outright banning. It seems that perhaps the standards in the state is low.

Yes, that would seem to be a good compromise, to monitor the quality of life at the tracks instead of an outright ban.

I work as a vet tech, and I know that the health care they receive in the track right by my house is excellent.

I'm just now getting around to reading Freddoso's book, and he's got a section in there about the deification of Obama - some of the things people have said about him are so friggin' out there. It's one of the creepiest things I've ever witnessed.

I got the snot scared out of me this afternoon. I was sitting at the park with a park dad as we watched our kids play. An African-American came strolling over to us and started chatting up about the election. He said he and many others would be taking the day off Tuesday to come to the park. He said the last in a flat tone.

Almost ALL of the campaign art has had graphic overtones of "revolutionary art," reminiscent of posters and campiagn material from the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and South America.

This is far from an accident.

And most of the actual depictions of Obama himself have a "heavenly" posture about him, looking up, staring out at the "future," sometimes even suggesting some sort of umbra or mystical glow.

Combine all these obvious clues along with a lot of his campiagn rhetoric, repeating over and over that he can "change the world," and folks, we have a real cult of personality growing right here in the good old U.S of A.

315 jaunte  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 6:19:23pm

Looking around at soviet propaganda sites, I just ran across this thought.
Compare the bolded description with the current and past associates of O:

"In order to make it easier for a person not familiar with the subject of USSR-style political propaganda to understand the following presentation, here are some convictions that are pertinent.

1. The USSR was a country that was conceived, designed and built by the most deviously exceptional minds of modern times. Having VERY modest resources at their disposal they toppled one of the largest, richest and strongest countries of the 19th century - the Russian Empire.

2. Those minds were utterly and irrevocably criminal. By criminal I mean their absolute rejection of any philosophical, moral, ethical, religious or other principals guiding "acceptably normal" human behavior. The criminal mind is only interested in itself and it's own position of dominance, treating everything and everyone else as secondary and disposable. Arguably, they were failed "artists" who managed to exercise their "creative" self-indulging fantasies. The only position that would satisfy this condition is a position of unlimited, total control over every imaginable aspect of subordinated human lives."

You got that right! Even down here in NZ, there have a couple of political cartoons that point to a racial motivation not to vote for O. One had O standing on, what looked like a, mountain in the ocean. What the cartoonist had drawn was a KKK hood with a line for the sea dividing the top. Beneath the "sea" was a caricature of hooded KKK clansman holding a shotgun and noose. The comment was "white trash racism", the implication being that based on colour alone, O should be elected coz, well, its time.

It was disgusting.

re: #19 zombie

Thanks for digging this out, Zombie.
It is amazing that Barry O is using these iconic agitprop graphics, (which by the way are not just famous for nothing, they are actually the foundation of modern graphic design, and I would volunteer to say that Rodchenko, Malewich and El Lissitzky were real giants in the development of the same)
Rodchenko, Malewich, El Lissitzky, Chagall, Tatlin, Popova and others deserve more than just some credit, after all, 1917 marked the end of a brutal reign of an absolute monarch and we should allow for some illusions regarding the nature of mankind and the new form of government.
Using their designs, unfiltered, unabashedly, and with that certain 'audacity' trivializing them (copyright infringement may linger here) seems rather odd and arrogantly assuming that Americans will not even recognize the source.
It looks to me that Obama's campaign can't help it, in their hubris of assuming victory, to lay down some kind of trail to show us where they're really coming from.
They feel safe to do so, because they assume 'the stupid American public' will not even know what hit them, before inauguration day.
Hope that Barry and Joe will never know what hit them come Nov 5.

re: #342 The Archivist

Possible? Sure. Likely? No way to know.

At this point, many state polls are within or close to margin of error. What you don't see is the non-response rate; that is, people who refuse to answer the pollster. The assumption would be that that rate mirrors the general population, but that's questionable. Likewise, there are people without land-line phones who are unreachable. There's a long list of things that can cause a poll to be off. See Iowahawk's article that was linked on LGF a few days ago.

The reputable pollsters do attempt to model such things accurately. I do believe that many of them are making their best effort. However, when two reputable pollsters disagree outside their margins of error, you know at least one of them is wrong.

There's cause for hope. And lots of room for worry. Pray.

If Obama rode down Michigan Ave. in a Soviet tank wearing a Che Guevara hat, waving a Soviet flag over his head, singing the Soviet national anthem and quoting Stalin, the Chicago Tribune would print a headline that said "Obama not a Socialist; Reaches Out to International Community".

That's awesome!

I even sent him the Soviet propaganda-style Obama poster, saying "they don't even TRY to hide it!" He said it was "too silly" for him too try to verify for himself!

She was the first person to show me that Obama plagiarized Lenin's speeches to the Duma in Obama's stump speeches.

Rest assured, the students in her classes are being educated about the evils of socialism and how the propagandists operate. There is still hope for our young university students as long as professors like her continue to teach!

Not that I'm advocating anything violent, don't mis understand me here, but if anything jumps off after this election, I sincerely hope the members of the MSM that have done their damnedest to help hijack this election
are remembered. Should anyone forget though, I do have a copy of the list ! Prosecution w/o mercy.

BTW, I am clinging to my guns and my Bible...what the hells wrong with that ? Never understood that one. Try taking them.

Yep, McCain will shock the world and the air will be let out of Obama's ballon and the MSM will decry: RACISTS!

From your mouth to G-d's ear. . .

Just got the house wired, closed circuit to the computer, hubby did it. . .hubby is quite handy, and now gone for a week on business. . .but never fear, I got my birthday present early and feel quite safe. . .

How are you all doing? Are we feeling ok? I also got my family, all 5 of them to vote for McCain today. . .sent them the front page from today. . .5 more in Florida. . .

"She was the first person to show me that Obama plagiarized Lenin's speeches to the Duma in Obama's stump speeches."

That would make an interesting side-by-side comparison.
Can you get her to write something about it?

My cat would never sell me out to Dear Leader. I'm sure of it. I rescued her from the animal shelter, she owes me!

The bourgeois concept of loyalty is of no value to the feline cadres in their quest for a New World Order.

The Great Leader Chairman Meow has a higher claim on the loyalty of the cat-dres than do their so-called "masters."

Remember: Your honor student is merely a pawn in my cat's diabolical world domination plot!

That, with the imagery here would be pretty interesting. . .

I think the poster above has more to do with a lazy designer than a real connection with communism. They probably just thought it was a cool design to rip off. Little does the designer know that there are real connections, and real world results that they aren't going to like.

370 Ledger1  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 8:40:41pm

This is just Jim-Dandy.

Obama has the communist’s vote in his pocket.

I wonder how much money the Russians have given Obama.

Will we get a free tour of the infamous torture prisons?

THE ROOMS OF HORROR

As if the preceding sights are not horrific enough, the tour then leads you past a small outside "exercise area," explaining that the windows looking down on this fenced courtyard represent offices and residences of KGB personnel. A set of closed barn doors lead to the street, where bodies were often left as warnings to locals of the dangers of opposing the regimes. A door leads down another staircase, the railing cut to accommodate the passing of stretchers, and visitors are given cloth shoe-coverings to don.

The next rooms evoke nothing but silence. The floors have been excavated to the original blood-soaked concrete, and visitors walk on glass tiles elevated about a foot above the floor, which is lit from the sides. Articles found during excavation, including clothing, glasses, bullets and casings, and shoes, litter the floor beneath. Etched glass panels show pictures of the executed and the executors, with grim stories of how thousands met their deaths. Another set of panels explains the pains to which modern-day archaeologists go to identify remains from photos and documents. In the execution room itself, a panel of glass covers the bullet-pocked wall against which prisoners were shot, near a drain in the floor where blood flowed into. In these rooms, we met a former inmate who had spent a bit less than a year before being sent to a labor camp in Ural. Our guide interpreted for us, and asked if we had any questions...

Well, O's "bitter clinger" remarks were lifted strait from Saul Alinsky.

Rules for Radicals, pp.188-189

“Their bitterness is compounded by their also paying taxes for these colleges, for increased public services, fire, police, public health, and welfare. They hear the poor demanding welfare as ‘rights.’ To them this is insult on top of injury. Seeking some meaning in their life, they turn to an extreme chauvinism and become defenders of the ‘American’ faith. Insecure in this fast-changing world, they cling to illusory fixed points–which are very real to them”

[Obama talking to crowd]

Obama: “Next they will be calling me a communist because I did not share my peanut butter and jelly sandwich when I was 5 years old. That’s the same time Ayers was…”

Person in the crowd: “I’ll share mine with you!”

(((Splat!)))

Obama: “Who did that!”

[Wiping peanut butter and bread from this forehead]

Obama: “Axlerod, call the SS on him. I want to make an example of him! Send him off to the re-education camp. Nobody splatters me with peanut butter and gets away with it! ”

Soviet premier Nikita S. Khrushchev... "We cannot expect Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find out they have Communism." Fitting.

378 RobCon  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 8:47:12am

Thank God Obama and his supporters are not socialist.

Sad. It IS a good looking poster though.

381 so.cal.swede  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 9:40:43am

oh noes, not russian books on every subject!

382 eric_odessit  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 10:16:54am

Guys,
In case nobody translated this poster before, this is not a propaganda poster. It is more of an advertisement poster. It advertises that the Leningrad State Publishing House publishes books on every subject.
Although the similarities with Obama's poster are obvious, this particular Soviet poster has very little, if any, Communist propaganda.
Eric.

 Frank says:

If you wind up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then YOU DESERVE IT. -- From the Real Frank Zappa book.
