I've seen enough weird, OK?

How about a little bit more of sane & normal for a few years...

(well, I just posted this in the last thread, and, bingo, the hamsters gear up and poof, another thread)

Almost ALL of the campaign art has had graphic overtones of "revolutionary art," reminiscent of posters and campiagn material from the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and South America.

This is far from an accident.

And most of the actual depictions of Obama himself have a "heavenly" posture about him, looking up, staring out at the "future," sometimes even suggesting some sort of umbra or mystical glow.

Combine all these obvious clues along with a lot of his campiagn rhetoric, repeating over and over that he can "change the world," and folks, we have a real cult of personality growing right here in the good old U.S of A.

Hiel Obama.

I believe this dramatic creature turned out to be a prairie dog, no?

20 sleepyone  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 6:19:35pm

Ugh. Obama signs on cars everywhere here in Portland, Maine. I even saw one today that a child drew and the mommy had it taped up in the window of her Subaru Outback. But worse still, yesterday I saw a Prius with a Green Party bumper sticker and an additional Cynthia McKinney sticker!

21 Salem  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 6:20:06pm

Actually, it's a groundhog. But on YouTube they call it a chipmunk.

Ward Churchill dedicated his book Pacifism as Pathology to Bill Ayer's WU girlfriend, Diane Oughton. The theme of the book is something like pacifism is a temporary ruse until the real action begins. I guess for Diane who blew herself up in a workplace accident the action came and went pretty fast but this seems to me weird enough for this thread.

What kind of horrible concatenating chain of commies have been nesting in this country like vipers waiting to grow strong enough to attack us? Here's where I downloaded the important pages of the Churchill book [Link: rapidshare.com...]

I wanted to write just to say "goodbye"; I used to find your site quite
informative and very amusing...when you actually took the time to
participate in the discussion, that is.

Lately, LGF has been little more than a link-o-rama and your diatribes
on religion and evolution have made me wonder just what site I visited
in the first place.

So, for the time being, I am replacing LGF on my "favorites" toolbar in
Firefox - I may still check in from time to time to see if anything has
changed and if you're back on track - but I won't be by nearly as
often.

I hope you find your way back to what made LGF a wonderful,
informative, at times entertaining, and helpful site.

OT:
I got a kick out of what my brother-in-law did to an Obama phone-caller...

So, this is what happens in the election season. I get 50,000,000 campaign calls and I answer hardly any of them. However, when I feel adventurous, I pick up the phone and if it's not automated, I'll talk to the people... Sometimes I have a little fun...

A lady from the Wisconsin Democratic Party called me a few days ago... We'll call her "Obama Lady".
This is how it all went down:

Obama Lady: "Mr. ---, this election is one of the most important elections of your life. John McCain wants to take away Women's rights altogether. He wants women to be at a lower pay scale, single women at a higher tax bracket and more importantly......John McCain wants to take away a women's right to choose. He tries to defend his radical policies with false attacks on Barrack Obama... This is not fair! And I am supporting Barrack Obama for President because I am tired of the smear ads, we can't afford more of the same. Mr. ---... Does Senator Obama have your support?

Me: "Of course he has my support! I couldn't possibly want more of the same! But I have a question... I'm a musician who doesn't really want to work, under Obama's plan, I won't have to work, right? I'll be able to live off of other people's wealth and income?

Obama Lady: "Well, yes, but that's not the intent of Obama's plan."

Me: "Well, but the answer IS yes, correct?"

Obama Lady: "Yes, that is correct, but Obama's plan is to help those who are less fortunate."

"Yeah, that's good for them but what about me? I don't make very much money. I'm capable of working more at a higher paying job, I just don't want to. So, I'm less fortunate because I won't have much money, right? So, then I can live off of other people's money too, right?

Obama Lady: "Well, yes... Technically you could..."

Me: "Cool! One more question... What happens when everyone else gets the same notion and stops working?

Obama Lady: "Why would they do that?

Me: Because maybe they don't want to work harder to make less money and support people like me? Where is their incentive to keep working?

Obama Lady: "Well, not everyone would quit working...

Me: "Are you sure? Would you work if you didn't have to?

Obama Lady: "Uh...You have a good day, Mr. ---..."

Go Senator McCain!

Youth vs. Experience

Can you image Obama in Kennedy's shoes?

"Kennedy had a simple agenda. He wanted to meet Khrushchev, size him up, talk to him politician-to-politician about the dangers of military miscalculation in a nuclear world."

"Kennedy had no double they would understand each other."

"Kennedy's briefing papers concluded that while Khrushchev might use bluster and threat on occasion, the Russian was also looking for a relaxation of tensions."

"He had done his homework on Khrushchev's personality, even if much of what he had heard seemed unreal"

"Kennedy's focus was on Khrushchev the man, a wild sort who had shocked the world only a year earlier by taking off his shoe and banging it on the desk in front of him during debate in the UN General Assembly."

"He had been in office only three weeks when the first feelers came from Khrushchev for an early meeting. He jumped at the chance, writing to the Soviet leader on February 22 to suggest a meeting"

"The leader of the Soviet Union, sixty-seven years old and fat as a sausage, came up to the nose of the trim President of the United States"

"Inside, the two leaders faced each other across a large coffee table in the music room, a homey sitting room, fifteen by twenty feet"

"The first thing the Soviet chairman noticed was that Kennedy rarely looked at his aids, much less talked to them. He was different from Eisenhower, who rarely spoke without turning to his team, especially his Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles"

"Kennedy said what he had come to say"

"Krushchev's response, as reported by American note takers, was harsh and angry: "The West and the United States as its leader must recognize one fact: Communism exists and has won its right to develop ... Mr Dulles based his policy on the premise of liquidation of the Communist system""[1]

Can you image Obama in Kennedy's shoes?

Obama can certainly try to gallivant headlong towards "chatting" with our enemies, unprepared like Kennedy (resulting in devastating escalation and consequences), but what exactly would Obama say to Khrushchev? They already seem to be somewhat on the same page!

For his part, at least Kennedy put great effort into not showing weakness, unlike The One.

Bass Ackward Headline of the Day courtesy of the AP:

AP IMPACT: flood of wounded GIs swamps care units

Let's further recall that the past two months have seen huge declines in casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan combined, and the lede of the very article they're talking about suggests that the military had a surplus of specialized medical care facilities after earlier problems:

In a rush to correct reports of substandard care for wounded soldiers, the Army flung open the doors of new specialized treatment centers so wide that up to half the soldiers currently enrolled do not have injuries serious enough to justify being there, The Associated Press has learned.

Army leaders are putting in place stricter screening procedures to stem the flood of patients overwhelming the units — a move that eventually will target some for closure.

According to interviews and data provided to the AP, the number of patients admitted to the 36 Warrior Transition Units and nine other community-based units jumped from about 5,000 in June 2007, when they began, to a peak of nearly 12,500 in June 2008.

So, what happened wasn't that these units were overwhelmed by critical care for which they were intended, but half the soldiers enrolled don't have injuries serious enough to justify being there.

The AP is trying to find bad news where none actually exists. The military is providing even better care than just a few years ago, and more soldiers are receiving advanced care. Yet, the AP wants this to be considered a bad thing? / [deleted]

re: #166 Penguinchic

In Russian Lit during the communist rule, many times the hero will be portrayed in ways so that they appear to be "heavenly". Granted you may have to dig for the comparison, but it is there.

I don't think you have to dig for the comparison, it's pretty much in the open.

I am far from an expert in any kind of art, revolutionary or otherwise, but I did spend some time in Poland researching some stuff for something, and I started to pay attention to Nazi and Soviet propoganda art.

And one think I know, if I see a duck in Poland, and I see a duck here in the US, I can reconize that it's the same, it's a duck.

Same thing with the art, ya know.

It's too bad we can't get all the Republicans in perennial "blue" states moved to the swing states, where they can do the most good.

My sister lives in Missouri and it's my understanding that it could be a swing state this year. She is solidly "red" but something in my gut tells me she doesn't get out to vote. I'm going to call her tomorrow and press the issue.

And I may be moving to Florida so in future elections (if FL continues on its journey to be a swing state) I hope to be a small part of helping out in a swinger state, I mean swing state.

But we were watching it at a family get-together. Chiefs went up 24-3 on Tampa Bay in the FIRST QUARTER, and LOST! We were up 27-19 with 3 minutes to play, and Tampa Bay had to get a touchdown and a two-point-conversion just to TIE .. and they did it, then won on a field goal in overtime.

Obama said it; that's what his expected outcome hopes to be.

I don't hear of any place like that either. A lot of hardcore liberals want to escape the outrageous taxes in their cities and migrate to smaller communities where they proceed to screw up things there with their votes and point of view. I'd guess that would depend on how much the person makes. The real question is this. Under a National Health Care system how much free hand would the tort lawyers have to sue for malpractice when the whole operation is government run.

Is there anywhere in America that's becoming more "red"/conservative/Republican? I hear no end to stories of big-city liberals migrating to formerly conservative areas and changing the political scene, but pretty much nothing about the opposite.

I've been wondering about that myself! In Colorado they blame it on Californians moving in. In NH they blame it on the Massaloonies' migration. In the South we blame it on cotton pickin' carpetbaggers.

But at some point you gotta wonder. Are the blue-staters out-breeding us? I don't think so. So wuzzup?

I hate to say it, but it may be that leftism is a spreading mold, a fungus among us.

Once years back they gave us all an employee skills survey to fill out so they could determine who might be best suited for what jobs in the organization. I was working the night shift taking my lunch and sat there and went through each question filling in the ovals with my #2 pencil. A guy I worked with sat down at his desk and took a sharpie and scribbled something on page 1 and said "Boom, done". I go over and look what he wrote and saw in permanent ink across the page. HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Hong Kong stocks rebounded strongly Monday to lead Asian markets higher in the wake of gains on Wall Street, with financials such as China Construction Bank Corp. and property firms such as Cheung Kong (Holdings) fronting an across-the-board advance.
South Korean shares advanced on shipbuilders such as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., while lenders such as Westpac Banking Corp. were also aided by hopes the Australian central bank may cut interest rates on Tuesday.
Japanese stock markets were closed for a holiday.
The Hang Seng Index rose 4.7% to 14,629.16, after ending 2.5% lower on Friday, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 6.1% to 7,014.49.
South Korea's Kospi jumped 2.6% to 1,141.91, after soaring 18.6% in the previous week.

Mine doesn't have voice recognition. I.e. I have to type in stuff while driving. It doesn't bother me -- when I'm too busy concentrating on driving to type, then I'd probably be too busy concentrating on driving to speak, too.

A really important feature that some don't have is the ability to speak street names. I.e.

In 0.5 miles, turn left on Elm Street

instead of

In 0.5 miles, turn left.

Also make sure you have points of interest (POIs) entered for all of America (or Europe, if that's where you are) already built in.

I have a bluetooth feature, but I don't use it. The only reason I can figure out why it would be helpful is if I were to ask my GPS to find the nearest pizza place, for example, and then ask it to dial the number for me. Not worth the trouble to figure out how to do it, I think.

Mine's a Garmin, and I love it. Tom Tom is reportedly good too. Stay away from Magellan.

The rich Boomer pukes all live up in the hillside 'hoods, which are hard to access (many of the roads there are single-laners) and a whole world away from the complete social meltdown you see on Telegraph Avenue and Downtown.

The parallel across the Bay would be Marin County, home of Sen Boxer and countless other delusional utopians, which is not only a series of hilly suburbs, but is separated from San Francisco by the Golden Gate Bridge. Out of sight, out of mind, don'cha know.

So, it's curious how people are taking the news of Obama's bankruptcy comments. I've got a couple of people who don't quite grasp the fact that I'm not the one who said that Obama's cap and trade policies would bankrupt the coal industry. Obama said it; that's what his expected outcome hopes to be.

He's cheerleading for the destruction of the coal industry, and to do so as quickly as possible. No alternatives are on the horizon to replace coal energy production, so the only logical assumption here is that Obama hopes to shrink the national economy. Significantly.

In another clip, he acknowledges that his policies would cause energy prices to "necessarily skyrocket". I had remarked earlier that I already pay $400 per month to light and heat a relatively new 2100 square foot house in a mild climate in the winter...I'd like to know exactly what he means by "skyrocket".

Thanks. Since I haven't talked to my ex-wife in 5 years, I've lost track of the politics in the medical industry. She is a nurse.

So, nothing has changed. If they can make a few more bucks from the governemt, they don't care if the care is quality care of not. Same old, same old.

This should make people afraid, because it's evident that the AMA is not interested in the level of care as they are about a few more dollars. A shame.

AN ODE ON DELUSION

When the One declared war on the capitalists,
I sent money to ACORN & MoveOn.org – it’s not fraudulent if we win;
War is Peace.

When the One called on us to shout down his critics,
I followed his commands blindly attacking any who questioned the Messiah;
Freedom is Slavery.

When the One promised to meet with America’s enemies (without preconditions),
I was proud of my country for the first time in my life;
Ignorance is Strength.

When the One came for me,
it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished;
I loved Big Brother.

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

God Help Us All!

Don't worry too much about the early votes. The partisan breakdowns in early voting are only slightly increased over 2004 in most states, and they show no sign of the huge youth turnout the Democrats promised.

But that's why I'm against early voting: there is a serious risk of voters not being fully informed before they vote.

Well, they're the token GOPers (or who the media considers GOPers). The media has their bias, and they're sticking to it. Coulter is getting her appearances in, which is her thing. Can't blame her for the appearance, but the media will always seek out folks like Coulter or Buchanan rather than other folks like VDH. They'll take the bombastic and flamethrower over the heavy hitting intellectual.

The media portrays the political parties as they see them - and how they want everyone else to see them.

It doesn't help that Fox or Hannity continue allowing Buchanan to grace their studios at every turn.

It means that he is going to jack up corporate taxes on any company making money to punish them and give freebies to his base supporters, and the resulting increase in cost will be passed on to the consumer.

Doesn't surprise me. They think its ok to destroy someone for tripping up their candidate. I understand the impulse, since I myself sometimes feel that people should be punished for disagreeing with me. The difference is that I understand the evil place such feeling come from and so I do not act on them. They give in to the temptation.

I believe you give them too much credit with that last sentence. You had it correct the first time. They do not recognize their behavior as primal. They think it's OK to destroy those who disagree with them (if it can be said that they 'think' at all).

I consider the NJ vote to be wishful thinking at best. GOPers are outnumbered 2-1 here in NJ, and I don't think it will be a McCain win. It might be close, but a 10 point spread here would be close. 55-45 Obama. NJ is a blue state in a sea of East Coast blue, and if the NJ internals were even close to being accurate, why isn't McCain running more ads here or even making appearances here. I just don't buy it.

Besides, if this poll is accurate, every other statewide poll in NJ would have to wonder if they're ever going to be working the state again after being so damned wrong.
