Peters: Obama 2012

Here’s a science fiction story by Ralph Peters…

Actually, it’s more like a horror tale: Obama 2012: His Triumphs Abroad.

Looking back on the four years of his first administration, President Obama can be proud: He made the US welcome among the family of nations again; he reduced our reliance on military force; and he gave us peace by reaching sensible accommodations with our enemies.

The lies told about him in the 2008 election were exposed as sheer bigotry. Far from being “soft on radical Islam,” President Obama was the first world leader to welcome Jewish refugees after Iran’s nuclear destruction of Israel’s major cities (his only caveat - a fair one - was the refusal to accept Zionist military officers and their families, in light of Israel’s excessive retaliation).

He also demonstrated his resolve in the face of extremism when he overruled the obstructionist advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and ordered our military to cross the border into Pakistan in force. The subsequent debacle, as Pakistan cut off supply routes to Afghanistan and threatened a nuclear response, was entirely the fault of our generals on the ground, not of the administration.

Fortunately, President Obama’s willingness to talk to our enemies rescued the situation. After laying down their arms, our troops were allowed to evacuate Pakistan and Afghanistan in peace. The Taliban’s return to power in Kabul did not result in an excessive bloodbath, and al Qaeda is not permitted the unrestricted freedom it enjoyed in the country prior to 2001.

You do not believe, but soon you will see that after tomorrow, the sun will be a bit brighter, birds will sing lovelier songs, our enemies will see that we have changed and will stop hating us! The UN will finally be given all the power it needs to stop all violence around the world. And, we will be living in harmony with Mother Earth for a change! Yes, a new day is dawning!

Our relations with the Muslim world have rarely, if ever, been better. The current $320 per barrel price of oil allows long-oppressed states to develop themselves without the yoke of neo-colonialism or invasive efforts to force democracy upon their populations. As UN Ambassador Ayers noted, "We can state with pride that the US not only respects, but embraces cultural differences."

Of this nightmares are made.

(The resulting peace dividend from our president's 25% cut in the defense budget has allowed our government, in a public/private partnership with the Chicago-based Rezko Foundation, to provide subsidized housing for almost six million new immigrant families from developing countries. No other administration policy has raised the world's esteem for us more profoundly than our "Global Balance" instant-citizenship immigration reforms.)

In our own hemisphere, President Obama has supported the cause of justice, human rights and trade unions, cutting off military aid to Colombia, killing the proposed free-trade agreement with that country, and expressing humane understanding for the long freedom struggle of the FARC and other liberation groups.

Preferring a sensible rapprochement with Venezuela to needless confrontation, our president went to Caracas and negotiated a regional division of labor with democratically-elected President Hugo Chavez. The end of our destructive trade embargo against Cuba, our formal apology for the deprivations we imposed, and our generous reparations payments have inaugurated a new era of friendship with our long-suffering neighbors to the south.

Fine line between a fairy tale and a nightmare.

32 Occasional Reader  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 8:38:48am

Good read, but Peters left out one major Obam administration accomplishment. Our trade embargo of Colombia (based on understandable outrage over killings of labor organizers... okay, there were actually a lot fewer, but it was still too many!) led to the downfall of the neo-colonialist "democratic" government of that country, and its embrace of a much more "spread the wealth" regime led by FARC, um, acticists, with the help of the Chavez Justice Brigade Volunteers. The rumors of "killing fields" are no doubt a neocon propaganda ploy.

33 newsjunkie_ky  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 8:38:59am

He would not be allowed to publish that. His statement, "(his only caveat - a fair one - was the refusal to accept Zionist military officers and their families, in light of Israel’s excessive retaliation)." is too harsh to the sensitivities of The Zero.

The link there to Jonah Goldberg's "OBAMA 2012: FOUR YEARS LATER" is just as good:

...The first mistake many cite was actually made before Obama was even elected: the selection of Joseph Biden as his vice president. During the campaign, all eyes were on John McCain's running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. But even then there were signs of the troubles to come (ironically, Biden's biggest "gaffe" - about Obama being tested early in his presidency - proved eerily prescient).

Still, nothing prepared the country for some of former Vice President Biden's comments while in office. Early on, when he told the Russian foreign minister he'd "rather punch a nun in the throat" than cooperate on an Iranian nuclear deal, the Obama administration knew they had a problem on their hands.

The strange comments and behavior kept coming: at an international summit on child poverty, he accused the Dalai Lama of issuing a "brain fart," he phoned Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts at home and called him a "[re]tard in short pants," and of course the several stories - clearly leaked by aides to the president - of Mr. Biden sitting in the president's chair in the Oval Office and being more than reluctant to get out when asked to do so by the president.

The last straw was Biden's complaint, emphatically offered at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, that he would have more influence over foreign policy if he were black. His staff's effort to dismiss the incident as a joke - at the normally comedic event - fell short largely because Biden shouted "I am not joking!" two dozens times in speech that lasted less than 10 minutes. The fact that Biden had not been invited to speak at the dinner in the first place only added to the controversy...

I think this is eerily prophetic and should be required reading for any "undecideds" for the next 24 hours.

So should this...
Keep in Mind Obama's New-Year's-Resolution-Like Promises
Here's a snippet:

Obama says he’s going to go through the budget, line by line, and eliminate unnecessary programs. But he’s never done this in the Senate.

He says he’s going to cut taxes on the middle class. He said he would do this when he was running for the Senate in 2004. He never even introduced a bill to do it.

He says he’s going to limit tax increases to those making more than $250,000. If that’s his line in the sand, one wonders why he voted for a (nonbinding) budget proposal that raised taxes for those making $42,000 and up. And you wonder how hard he’s going to fight to preserve the Bush tax cuts when they reach their expiration date of January 1, 2011.

He sometimes talks about replacing race-based affirmative action with class-based affirmative action. Again, no bill introduction or serious effort to change federal policies.

He says he supports merit pay for teachers, in opposition to the teachers’ unions. Again, no bill introduction or co-sponsorship. His “support” means he mentions it in a speech.

The linked Jonah Goldberg column is also valuable:

Another advisor compared Obama to Max Bialystock, the con man from the Mel Brooks' film "The Producers." In the movie, Bialystock sells 100% ownership of the play to dozens of investors. "Barack Obama sold 100% shares in his presidency to every constituency imaginable and they all thought they were at the front of the line after inauguration day."

Indeed, there will not be any energy independence under a moonbat government. What better way to redistribute wealth than to shovel trillions of dollars to the poor, oppressed Islamic world? It hasn't worked for the past four decades but if we throw Israel on the bonfire too, then we *might* placate the Muslim street for, oh, say, 30 minutes.

Peters analysis of Obama's foreign policy is quite the warning, and even a more cautiously optimistic take on Obama and his foreign policy objectives would result in a weakening of US strategic interests around the world.

Who would trust the US enough to ally with them if the US is going to cut and run at the first sign of trouble, which is what Obama continually signaled with the situation in Iraq. Who would count on the US to come to their defense if the US cuts back on defense spending as the Democrats hope to accomplish - forget a peace dividend; it's an enemy dividend.

Democrats and leftists paint these kinds of prognostications as fearmongering, but the facts are that these analysis are based on Obama's own statements and predilections. He wants to cut defense spending. He wants to eliminate unproven missile defense technology. His fellow Democrats see the opening to cut defense spending 25%. It isn't fearmongering to know what that would do to US national security and foreign policy.

It would have a devastating result, not just during an Obama administration, but for years to come as it takes time for the military to rebuild itself after being cut to the bone. And make no mistake, any defense cuts are harmful and long lasting at a point in our history when defense spending is already at near historical lows as a measure of GNP/GDP.

re: #164 buzzsawmonkey

Zombie: Check this out at Volokh! Obama's first job, before law school, was with a business that--SURPRISE!--has major ties to SDS.

As part of a joint “project” with SDS (p. 170), Oglesby arranged meetings with Haynes and Business International clients as part of their “round-table meetings,” allowing SDS to explain their opposition to the war (p. 171). New York SDS members continued to meet regularly with Business International even after Oglesby left New York.

Haynes “had come to agree with SDS about the war, racism, and urban poverty.” (Id.) Haynes, who died in 1976, told Oglesby that if he had been in the same generation as Oglesby, he might have joined SDS. (p. 170) After Robert Kennedy died, Haynes even called up Oglesby and urged SDS to riot: “Get your people out and tear the goddamn place into pieces.” (Oglesby, p. 188)

According to Oglesby, the Dohrn/Klonsky wing was highly suspicious of SDS’s joining in any programs with Business International. Oglesby’s memoir recounts long discussions and interrogations of Oglesby — led by Dohrn, Klonsky, and Arlene Bergman — over Oglesby’s development of SDS links with Business International.

Of all the firms in all the world, Obama had to walk into the one that years before had closer ties to SDS than any other mainstream business in the world. What luck!

I spoke with some neighbors who are active and retired military about a potential BHO presidency. Neither would venture a comment--not even a neutral one. I old them how glad I was that they had taken oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution of the US and not the presidency.

I think BHO will have to reinstate a draft because I get the feeling that a lot of the present troop will not want to serve under him as CINC.

President Obama was the first world leader to welcome Jewish refugees after Iran’s nuclear destruction of Israel’s major cities (his only caveat - a fair one - was the refusal to accept Zionist military officers and their families, in light of Israel’s excessive retaliation).

Bravely bold Obama rode forth from Camelot
He was not afraid to lie, oh Brave Obama
He was not at all afraid to lie in nasty ways
Brave brave brave brave Obama

He was not in the least bit scared to lie about Bill Ayres
Or for Rezko to buy his house and muzzle Biden's joking
To have his transcripts sealed and his Acorns hid away
And his family all beggared and poor, brave Obama

His record smashed in and his past cut out
And his writings removed and his bowels re-plugged
And his critics gang-raped and his past burnt off
And his pastor...
Well that's enough music for now, lads...

Brave Obama ran away - No!
Bravely ran away, away he did - I didn't!
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled - No!
Yes, brave Obama turned about
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave, brave Obama

Is it too early to start drinking?

Not too far off when it comes to thugo Chavez.

Chavez offers talks with "black man" in W.House

CARACAS (Reuters) – Anti-U.S. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez predicted on Sunday the "black man" will win the U.S. presidential race and offered to hold talks with him to improve ties between the superpower and one its biggest oil suppliers.

Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee who would be the first black U.S. president if he wins Tuesday's election, said this year he would be open to dialogue with leaders like Chavez -- a remark that was seized on by Republicans as naive.

McCain, who trails Obama in polls, has labeled Chavez a dictator.

Chavez, a socialist who has mocked President George W. Bush and calls ex-Cuban leader Fidel Castro his mentor, has said there is an inevitable clash between U.S. and Venezuelan interests, although he has at times offered to ease bilateral tensions.

"We are not asking him to be a revolutionary, to be a socialist -- no," Chavez said at a political rally. We just want the black man who is about to be the U.S. president to have enough stature for the times the world is living through.

"I send an overture to the black man, from us here, who are of Indigenous, black, Caribbean, South American race," he said.

"I am ready to sit down and talk ... I hope we can, and I hope we can enter a new stage," he said later at another rally.

Most Latin Americans would prefer Obama to win the White House over Republican rival John McCain, according to polls. They have felt largely neglected by the Bush administration as the region swung to the left.

Chavez, who expelled the U.S. ambassador in September, urged Obama to end the Cuban embargo, withdraw troops from Iraq and stop what he called U.S. threats against Iran and Venezuela.

This election is a no-win for the country no matter how you look at it.

-If McCain wins: Liberals and thier supporters go nuts. After being "screwed" in 2000 and 2004, an Obama loss confirms that the system is rigged resulting in widespread civil disorder. Riots by disgruntled liberals and the usual suspects (i.e. anarchist) cause widespread damage in most of America's major cities. Chicago is hit especially hard after the estimated 500,000-1 million Obama supports rampage through the streets after thier candidate loses. Damage done by the riots soars into the billions- cash-strapped cities will be unable to cope and request federal assistance.

Local police are unable to deal with the riots resulting in the National Guard being deployed under a state of emergency. The Obama campaign files multiple lawsuits to overturn the election result claiming the system was not up to the task of counting EVERY vote and the usual disenfranchisement claims.

Until the civil unrest is quelled and the lawsuits are thrown out by the Supreme Court, McCain will be unable to assume office until late Spring of 2009.

-If Obama wins: stocks will plummet as investors sell stocks to avoid the capital gains tax increase- the economy takes another body blow. Obama, along with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate, overreaches in regards to tax policy and spending resulting in his approval rating dropping to below 25% in the first year.

The "global crisis" Joe Biden referred to occurs and results in the nationalization of the energy companies (starting with "big oil") which tanks the majority of 401Ks. The American public decide a "change" is in order by the 2010 midterm elections- resulting in overwhelming majorities for Republicans. Impeachment quickly follows as an angry American public demands it. Obama and Biden are forced from office. Even after he leaves office, the damage done to America via Obama's policies/decisions take decades to reverse.

Either way, we are going to get "change" and a "transformed America" regardless who wins thanks to The Left.

LFG Election Night Pool:

At what time will Senator Obama make his concession speech?

I'm guessing...never. After all the lawsuits, it won't be necessary, he'll just slink away into the night.

No Way Ralph, The Obamessiah is going to change the world.

Now, where is the KoolAid, my glass is getting a bit low...

The sun will not be any brighter. It will dim, its radiance overshadowed by the One's. And the earth's fever will cool, and the Great Rift valley in Kenya will close up, for the Earth will heal.

Ah, it will be glorious! Yes, we can. Nothing is impossible. Nothing. Nothing, Nothing Nothing. Obama. Obama. Obama. O O O Nothing!

uh-oh

I'm not familiar with Grandma Victory Monkey, but I'm curious which food or drink she likes.

Whether you detest him or not, that's not something you should be posting here.

I humbly apologize, I should have been clearer. I don't ever wish for anything bad to happen to anyone, much less the President of the United States. I actually think that one of the Kos Kid type/true believers could be dangerous the first time that Obama goes to the center or - shudder - the right on an issue, such as supporting Israel over Iran or Syria. Their disappointment in their savior could lead one of them to become even more unhinged. We've seen in their comments on dhimmi underground and kos how much hatred and rage there is on the left kook fringe. Some of the Ayers types still know how to make a bomb and they have been whipped into a frenzy.

Re: Last night's open thread #374

I'm trying to apologize also, picking this thread as well as the original to leave a message for the offended parties. I was wrong and there's no excuse. Thank you for this forum, Charles.

Couldn't help but let the fantasy of a destroyed Israel slip in... and couldn't resist the 'Zionist' label. Subconscious can be frightening.

Ehhh why read the whole thing- what you posted is enough to make me lose my lunch. He better not win.

Ralph Peter's works show his ability to imagine a dystopia where anything is possible. This is his talent. His works of fiction are relevant to our day. I would recommend his "War in 2020." The US army goes to war against a technologically superior foe, outnumbered the US makes a gamble which might ensure that the tipping scale is more even. Just gives me chills when I think about it. America in that future is unable to finance much less spend much money on supporting the military. While not directly addressing how we got there, its clear that if Obama becomes president, we might face similar threats alone and outnumbered. Frightening.
