Here’s an open thread for the Monday before the Tuesday.

Traffic is going to be very high today and tomorrow. For the best results browsing LGF, we strongly suggest you use Firefox 3—or even better, Apple’s Safari—to browse LGF. Both of these browsers will work much better than Microsoft Internet Explorer, and will help avoid timeouts and connection problems.

Just download Safari for windows. It's easy and even imports your bookmarks for you.

I switched to FF from IE 2-3 months ago. I switched to Safari last week, when we were so bogged down. The difference with Safari and LGF is astounding. I highly endorse Safari for the coming trip through the Jungle. (pun intended)

For those of you worried about the money situation in the election, here's a great analogy from FOX & Friends this morning:

Think of 0bama as the New York Yankees - tons of money coming in, and plenty of money to put together the best team money can buy. Think of McCain as the Tampa Bay Rays - less money to deal with, and they have to budget it to their players carefully.

Certainly, the Yankees certainly seem to have the upper hand. However, when it came to actual play this past season, compare how the Yankees did to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays played in the World Series, while the Yankees didn't.

I see that. But it brings me to a FULL PAGE OF BOOKMARKS, a new panel. I just want a quick list like in IE.

And for some reason, when I come back from the bookmark page, it signs me off of LGF.

Other than that, the Safari Browser seems to be quicker than IE.

The fastest web browser on any platform, Safari loads pages up to 1.9 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2.

And it executes JavaScript up to 6 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 4 times faster than Firefox 2. What does all that mean for you? Less time loading pages and more time enjoying them.

I don't know what more you need to know about Safari.

A civilian force as strong as the military? Your kidding, right? Um it’s Obama, so he probably isn’t kidding. Who would this force report to? The Messiah himself? What would be their mission? This is truly frightening. The Germans used to have a police force like that:

The gestapo (help·info) (contraction of geheime Staatspolizei: “Secret State Police”) was the official secret police of Nazi Germany. Under the overall administration of the Schutzstaffel (SS), it was administered by the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA)Reich’s security service”) and was considered a dual organizationSicherheitsdienst (SD) (”security service”) and also a suboffice of the Sicherheitspolizei (SIPO) (”security police”).

And look, before I hear any crap about the comparison don’t blame the messenger. OBAMA said this, not me or Karl Rove or John McCain. Obama advocated the creation of a NATIONAL POLICE FORCE AS POWERFUL AS THE ARMY. The question EVERY ONE of us should be asking is, “For who, for what?”

Eventually a consulting house to multinational corporations agreed to hire me as a research assistant. Like a spy behind enemy lines, I arrived every day at my mid-Manhattan office and sat at my computer terminal, checking the Reuters machine that blinked bright emerald messages from across the globe. As far as I could tell I was the only black man in the company, a source of shame for me but a source of considerable pride for the company’s secretarial pool.

I've been using Opera for years. Try others and always go back to Opera.

I used Opera back in 1995. Was running on a 286, under GeoWorks (a windows like GUI), Compaq with only 2mg memory (user manual said it could only address 1mg, I added anotheer and it saw it).

The reason I used Opera, it was the first browser I found that would let me turn off graphics. With my lowly 2mgs, memory was a premium.

Dead Voters Submit Ballots From Beyond. "Now, on the eve of an historic election -- when every vote in Cuyahoga County is considered crucial -- our NewsChannel5 investigation has once again uncovered thousands of dead voters still on the rolls, and ballots still being cast from beyond. The exact number of dead voters is difficult to say this time because Ohio's Secretary of State issued a directive to Boards of Elections across the state to withhold dates of births in public records requests. That information is important in positively identifying dead voters." So why withhold it?

Just saw this little blurb...Now we have whole cemeteries voting in Cuyahoga County. See why I didn't trust them with my early ballot? It would have been lost in the large piles of ballots of people born prior to 1900 and living on a park bench in downtown Cleveland. I wonder how much Acorn is paying to people to vote under 75 different pseudonyms? Think they are all listing the same park bench as their address?

How to tell if you voted for Obama:

Those people who may have forgotten who they voted for, (particularly the elderly and the democrats), can use this handy guide. It will calculate your answers and let you know for whom you voted.

1. You have extreme cognitive dissonance; it’s as if you have done something very wrong, but aren’t sure what it is.

2. You are pretty sure that Change is what we have all been Hoping for.

3. You think it is important for people to think that you are not a racist, and will go so far as to vote for a candidate even if he isn’t particularly experienced, or particularly presidential, or particularly patriotic, or even particularly black.

4. You have a feeling very similar to that of a small child at Christmas (or similar festive religious holiday) who is expecting many splendid gifts under the tree, chosen especially for you.

5. You are pretty sure that rich people are: 1) not you, and 2) mean.

6. Socialism is a fundamental cornerstone of the United States form of government. You know this because why else would they call it “Social Studies” in grade school?

7. You think it is important for all of the many diverse peoples of the world to love and respect the US again, instead of not liking us, and not respecting us, which kind of sucks.

8. Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorists:
A. Is a scare word invented by Fox News and Bush
B. Are all dead
C. Do not concern me in the least
D. Have a lot of good points, actually.

9. You are pretty sure that it is only fair that you get a BMW just like your neighbor’s. Also a bigger house; you can’t be expected to live in this crap pile. Also, the Government should initiate a program to retire all citizens credit card debt – it is only fair, since they did it for those bank guys.

10. Hey, the Constitution had a good run…

If you answered “Yes” to all of the above, then you are an idiot, because #8 was multiple choice, and really only #4 was a true Yes/No kind of question, the rest were designed to illicit an emotional response without requiring technical ability or any undue cognition; which means you almost certainly voted for Obama.

You took the words right out of my mouth, I said exactly the same thing earlier...and this is why I think early and absentee voting is thoroughly out of control. If you vote before the debates are even over, how can you possibly be informed enough to make an intelligent decision? Why don't we just start the voting right when the candidates announce? "OK, here's the list of guys who want the job, you've got 2 years to fill out your ballot and send it in."

In some states, absentee voters can vote on Election Day and thus void their absentee ballot. That won't help those who used secret "early voting" methods, or where canceling absentee votes is more complex.

The Bookmarks Bar, which is the first item in the bookmarks page (open book icon, folder Bookmarks Collections) contains bookmarks which you decide to have handy. You can put here as many or as few bookmarks as you like. The Bookmarks Bar appears on the top of the Toolbar. In MacOSX you can drag and drop or delete items from the Bookmark Bar. Don't know if this feature works under Windows.

"sbs" -

Do yourself a favor - alternate browser software is FREE - AND - if you trust GOOGLE, download CHROME, works well and is Safari Based as I understand it, otherwise - Go with Firefox 3 - per c-Net, still the fastest and baddest out there. Disclaimer - This Missive is sent to you via CHROME. I'm mainly Firefox 3 - and - variety is the spice of life.

sffilk -

Safari on Windows is OK - and somewhat counter intuitive if you are used to Internet Explorer. Firefox is OK+ and totally intuitive, version for version (ie. Firefox 1&2 to IE6 and Firefox3 to IE7. Flock is Firefox with a Social Networking overlay - ie. more stuff built in. It is as good as whatever version of Firefox they are currently using, as Avant is depending on what version of Explorer YOU are running. Hope this explains it.

Well, as an experiment, I've installed Safari... and am trying it out at the moment. One gripe I've noticed so far: if I mouse over a link, it doesn't display the whole URL. I've come to rely on that feature in other browsers. Is there an easy way to add that feature to Safari? Or am I just not looking in the right spot on the Safari window?

Quick question...

If an individual can give a maximum of $2,300 per candidate per election, why is it that people from my home state (Minnesota) are able to contribute multiple payments of $2,300 to the Obama campaign? I was going through the names on OpenSecrets.org and there are numerous donors with multiple contributions.

Help me out here...

136 NomadOfNorad  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 4:34:54pm

Well, to answer my previous question: I logged in here under Safari for awhile, then loaded Firefox and pulled up LGF... and found I was logged out there. Hehe.

I'm now logged back in under Firefox, and have quit out of Safari.

Saf is just KDE's Konqueror with prettiness added anyway...

Okay that might be an exaggeration but it's close. Konq and firefox serve me well. Even if google had released a linux flavour of Chrome I wouldn't use it.
