Palin is Cleared in 'Troopergate'

Politics | Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 6:47:53 pm PST

After an unbelievable barrage of smear articles from the mainstream media, tonight an independent investigation by Alaska’s State Personnel Board has cleared Sarah Palin of wrongdoing in the media-dubbed “Troopergate” case.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin did not violate state ethics rules as governor when she fired her state police commissioner and allegedly tried to engineer the firing of her brother-in-law from the Alaska State Troopers, an investigator for Alaska’s State Personnel Board found in a report released on the eve of the election.

The exoneration by the State Personnel Board contradicts the findings of an Alaska state legislative investigator, who ruled last month that Palin abused executive power when she and her husband engaged in a campaign to oust Mike Wooten, her former brother-in-law, from state trooper payroll.

Not necessarily - They stated the following in a front page story:

An extensive review of the government’s military tribunal files suggests that dozens of the roughly 255 prisoners remaining in detention are said by military and intelligence agencies to have been captured with important terrorism suspects, to have connections to top leaders of Al Qaeda or to have other serious terrorism credentials.

OT: On the other V-P candidate (we shouldn't leave him out, his feelings might get hurt). Today he said that he doesn't make gaffes:

“I never make any big, big gaffes,” [Biden] added. “I mean, you guys love saying that about me, but I tell you what, just look at the numbers. I don’t have any problem with what I’ve said and there’s nothing I’ve said that I would back off of.”

I can count at least three gaffes that would have been big if they'd actually been reported. And that's not counting the V-P debate.

41 kynna  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 6:59:02pm

My mother called a little while ago.

My mother loves Palin. Absolutely loves her.

She never watches Sat Night Live but had heard about its "comedy" this cycle. So she had sat down to watch reruns of its bits on NBC tonight.

She called about 10 minutes into the show incensed. She wasn't going to watch any more. She was terribly offended by how they ridiculed Palin.

And she asked a simple honest question. How does NBC have a right to broadcast this the night before an election.

Not in the Constitutional sense but it the common decency and fairness sense, it's a hell of a question.

That is the level of brainwashing that's gone on this election. If you cannot tell the difference between those two candidates, especially on that issue, maybe you should not vote.

Let's see, one is against abortion and says, without hesitation, that life begins at conception. The other says it's above his pay grade, but he voted yes on a bill that allows "doctors" to let a baby be partially born and then KILL IT (and deny medical help if it should somehow survive). That is pretty gray, isn't it?

Man. Are we really this close?

Are Americans really going to pick a man with no accomplishments other than running for president to be the next leader of the free world? A man who has close ties to radical socialists and domestic terrorists. A man who is so far out of mainstream he was identified as being the most leftist politician in the country.

Are Americans really going to vote against a decorated war hero who served his country in times of war and peace? A man who knows war, and will do everything he can to avoid it, yet will not hesitate when it is needed. A man who speaks and votes his conscience over party lines. A man who is in the center politically and has a record of working with members of both parties.

In times of economic crisis one man says he will immediately suspend all but essential government spending. The other man wishes to increase taxes on those "who can afford it", and adopt social programs with astronomical costs.

Are we Americans that naive?

God help us all.

Networks May Call Race Before Voting Is Complete

At least one broadcast network and one Web site said Monday that they could foresee signaling to viewers early Tuesday evening which candidate appeared to have won the presidency, despite the unreliability of some early exit polls in the last presidential election.

A senior vice president of CBS News, Paul Friedman, said the prospects for Barack Obama or John McCain meeting the minimum threshold of electoral votes could be clear as soon as 8 p.m. — before polls in even New York and Rhode Island close, let alone those in Texas and California. At such a moment, determined from a combination of polling data and samples of actual votes, the network could share its preliminary projection with viewers, Mr. Friedman said.

The same way that polls show people believe that McCain and not Obama will raise their taxes.

This isn't an election so much as an IQ test.

And too many of the American people are proving to be borderline retarded.

Ain't that the truth. A friend of mine was canvasing from the Republicans. He was given a list of registered Republicans, and was sent out to encourage them to vote. Well, something went awry with the list, because he knocked on the door of a dyed-in-the-wool dem, who proceeded to curse my friend, call him a communist, and then call the police on him. He returned home to find an officer waiting. A few minutes of conversation with the officer, and my friend learned that the officer's frank assessment of the sanity of his accuser was questionable.

re: #85 Racer X

No we are that uninformed though. The media has failed to do anything but cheerlead an Obama victory. There has been no investigation of his record, no critique of these literally wonders he has written and all investigation of his past and associations has been squelched. The people have been led to believe he is "the One", a new JFK an amazing leader. The squealing woman on You Tube really thinks he will save her economically. Others believe that he will bring world peace. Why? The media has asked no questions, shown no skepticism. They've nodded. And the media, the news departments, are supposed to tell us the truth and protect us from charlatans.

Now a few in the media say they don't know who Obama is. Well I wonder whose job it was to investigate?

This is actually the only report by the lawfully designated agency in Alaska - the Personnel Board. The legislature took it up only as a political manoeuver by the Dems in the Alaskan legislature, such as Hollis French, who claimed he was a Marine vet when, in reality, he couldn't even make it through a shortened form of boot camp.

Good for the Personnel Board for doing their jobs and getting this (late) report out before the election.

Shame on the partisan hacks in Alaska who did their best to sway the election because of their own comparably small penises, as opposed to Sarah Palin's balls. (sorry for the crudity)

Hello my fellow Lizards,
I just want to point something out for the lizard hordes to keep an eye on... now that election fever is soon to come to an end (within 24 hours we'll know who wins it! Scary thought =S).

UN Watch is doing an EXCELLENT job keeping an eye out on the preparations for Durban II.

The schemes and maneuvers of the Islamic bloc, leftists, anti-Semites, and anti-western activists is astounding. The warning beacon that was the first Durban conference has largely been swept under the rug, because it was overshadowed by the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

I think that exposing the machinations of the planners for Durban II would do a lot to expose the failures of the UN and greatly expand the "anti-jihad" movement. Such blatant politics and deceit must not be allowed to go unnoticed.

For an explicit of what I am talking about, see this summary on what is going on to try and force another NGO Forum -- where the bulk of the controversy was stirred in the first conference.

Please, my fellow lizard's, keep an eye out for this one!

As much as I have been addicted to LGF, especially over the past few weeks as the next day of infamy unfolds, the need to work on projects with my clients and earn a few $$$ while they are still in business has taken a higher priority.

Just heard a while ago during the top of the hour news from ABC radio while changing stations about Sarah being exonerated. Saw it here, in NY...a suburb. It was great!

BTW, I see that the WAPO, for some unknown reason (do I really need a sarc mark?) 'forgot' to mention that it was Democrats who found Governor VP-Elect Palin completely innocent?

Hours before Tuesday's historic presidential election, the Alaska Personnel Board released a report that said Gov. Sarah Palin did not violate state ethics laws when she fired her Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, according to a report released Monday evening by an independent investigator hired by the panel to probe the matter.

The 56-page report, prepared by Timothy Petumenos, an Anchorage attorney hired by the personnel board to conduct the ethics probe, determined that "there is no basis upon which to refer the conduct of Governor Palin to any law enforcement agency in connection with this matter because Governor Palin did not commit the offenses of Interference with Official Proceedings or Official Misconduct."

Furthermore, Petumenos, a Democrat, said “there is no probable cause to believe that any other official of state government violated any substantive provision of the Ethics Act.”

Petumenos's report also concluded that "there is no probably cause to believe that Governor Palin violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in any other respect in connection with the employment of Alaska State Trooper Michael Wooten," Palin's ex brother-in-law, who was entangled in a bitter divorce and child custody dispute with Palin's sister. That's why when the backbiting and nihilism and Monday am quarterbacking starts in the Republican party (some of it already has...) we need to refocus it. We need to work an inch at a time, a yard at a time - our next focus needs to be midterms in 2010, and screw presidential what-ifs until then. Yikes. Seems like some people will still be "undecided/unsure" which way to go even with a knife at their throat, the sky on fire, and the streets awash in blood. If you can't arrive at a decision by this time, perhaps you should forgo your "civic duty" for once and for all. After all, at this rate, neither this guy nor anyone else will have a choice in the matter for much longer, should the misguided prevail. Are these undecided voters as spineless when it comes to dealing with everyday matters in their lives as when they're faced with participating in choosing the direction their country should go in?

It's the far left that wants to kick people out of their party so that they can be more purely far left. They think the country will rally around them for this.

The Republican party, meanwhile, is getting along really well with PUMAs.

I think the Republican party may expand if Obama wins and his socialist policies start being implemented while moderate Democrats wake up to it.

There's no reason to assume that the Republican party wants to be smaller.

re: #314 Thanos

Yeah, we'd better hit the ground running if we want to minimize the damage of an Obama Administration. Things are so close to 50-50 in this country. If we really lean on our Senators, maybe we can de-rail the worst of it. For example, gun control. The Dems recognize that the issue is a real loser for them. Maybe with enough pressure from the electorate, we can at least sideline that.

OTOH, I expect his "All Abortion All The Time" plank will sail through within his first 100 days. We can't win that battle, not with as few Senators as it looks like we'll have. It's going to be a long slog to get to 2012.

re: #331 Charles

Then again, the Democrats choice is just as destructive and corrosive - pushing the party as far left as you can imagine, and then some. It didn't work in 2004, so they went even further to the left with Obama, and was helped by a media that chose to overlook/ignore/bury just how far left he truly is.

I agree that the GOP will likely push even further to the right because of its failure, but a better option would be for them to clearcut the failed leadership who decided that big government was the way to stay in power and not stand up to the profligate spending on dubious programs and new entitlements. Fiscal responsibility appears to be a dead letter in DC.

Keeping an Eye on Those Senate Races

Mitch McConnell is looking safer in Kentucky.

Chambliss is looking safer in Georgia.

Other than the Minneapolis (Red) Star Tribune poll, Coleman is looking good in Minnesota.

Democratic hopes of challenger Ronnie Musgrove knocking off Roger Wicker in Mississippi seem misplaced.

Not easy for the Democrats to get to 60 if this keeps up.

Right. And it's my opinion that if the GOP decides the right way to deal with this is to get even more socially conservative, and even more atavistic, drive out the "RINOs" and purify the blood of the party, we're going to see Democrats in power for the next 20 years.

Well, we definitely need more fiscally conservative Republicans. The GOP had a great opportunity in '94 with the Contract With America, and then pissed it all away, leading us to 2006, and the Dems getting the House and Senate back. We also need Republicans who get the WoT.

383 jaunte  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 7:59:10pm

I'm reminded of a senator from Arizona.

" When he said Government had no business trying to outlaw abortion, some people told him to retire from politics.

When he spoke out in favor of a new Phoenix ordinance protecting homosexuals from discrimination, and said they should be able to serve in the military, that got him in more trouble.

And when former Senator Barry Goldwater, an Arizona institution who has been compared with the Grand Canyon among this state's icons, endorsed a Democratic woman for Congress over a self-proclaimed "Goldwater Republican" in 1992, he was called a traitor."

Breaking: FOX News Reports McCain Camp VERY OPTIMISTIC! (Video)

Breaking: FOX News is reporting that...
The McCain Campaign is VERY OPTIMISTIC with the latest developments.

Carl Cameron who is traveling with the McCain Campaign says John McCain is the most optimistic as he has been in 14 years!

Carl Cameron reported:

"When you look at what's happened in the polls in Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida- They believe that they've strengthened. Essentially, the conservative districts in those states are now secured. That they still have a little bit of work to do particularly in the much vaunted GOP ground game; knocking on doors, making phone calls, lots of emails to shore them up entirely. But, most of the Red States they think they're now safe in... In places like Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri expect a late night. No quick calls tomorrow.

IBD-TIPP still shows that nearly 10% of voters are undecided.
Most undecided are siding with McCain.

Rasmussen reported that McCain-Palin have tied up the race in 4 of 6 Swing States.
McCain has pulled ahead in Florida and North Carolina and is tied in Missouri and Ohio.

Fox News/Rasmussen Reports polling this week in Colorado, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia shows some improvements for John McCain but the overall results still leave Barack Obama in a better position on the eve of the election.

Obama now leads in two of the Battleground states while the candidates are tied or within a point of each other in four. At one level, that’s an improvement for McCain. Last week, he was even in just two states while trailing in four.

MORE... Boomshak looks at historic moments of Divine providence:

America's history is rife with examples of overcoming incredible odds as the Hand of Providence smiled upon us.

1) The French coming to our aid in the Revolutionary War when all looked lost.
2) The Japanese deciding not to invade Hawaii.
3) Our victory at Midway.
4) The Germans mishandling of D-Day.

Hopefully we'll be able to add "McCain-Palin triumphing over the Marxisant radical" to that list of great American moments.

More... At this important time in American history here are some words of wisdom from Ronald Reagan.

If you look through history you see that the Republican party is strongest when it's standing for a few solid principles:

Limited Government
Fiscal Restraint
Freedom
Strong Defense

The fifth is usually social conservatism, but lately there have been movements in that base that are aimed at limiting liberties. (e.g. interferring in a State's right to set marriage law, etc.) This creates a cognitive dissonance that allows the left to moby in and split us easily.

It'll be interesting to see where Obama puts his priorities. Heller may be enough when you couple it with the percentage of the Electorate that considers the Second Amendment a right.

There would have been issues with the McCain Administration if he were elected, but not the big existential questions that determine what kind of a nation the United States fundamentally is.

Subject: Tomorrow

We're just one day away from change.

Election Day is tomorrow -- Tuesday, November 4th.

We've asked you to do a lot over the course of this campaign.

Right now, I'm asking you to do one last thing -- vote tomorrow, and make sure everyone you know votes, too.

Watch a short video about how far we've come, and how close we are. Then find or confirm your polling location and make sure your friends and family do the same:

(video)

When this campaign began, we weren't given much of a chance by the pollsters or the pundits.

But tomorrow, we can make history.

We've made it this far because supporters like you never stopped believing in your power to bring about real change.

Take the final step now.

Watch the video, find your polling location, and get everyone you know involved on Election Day:

[Link: my.barackobama.com...]

With your vote, and the votes of your friends, family, and neighbors, we won't just win this election -- together, we will change this country and change the world.

Thank you,

Barack

Not to live up to my reputation too completely, but... Yeah. We should be circumspect about placing any rules on the press.

Why, you may ask? I think we might see exactly why, over the course of an Obama presidency. I think he's far more suppressive of a free press than most people realize, considering a few key interactions. He just hasn't had to flex that suppression much, yet.

You say this now, when the press has been overwhelmingly in the tank for Obama?

"Oh, there should be no rules on the press, because of what may be uncovered and reported on!"

Where the hell was the sacred press these last 18 months? They didn't pay any attention to Barack Obama and his unsavory alliances and associations, so why would they start doing so now?

The MSM has done their best to elect Barack Obama as president, and if they succeed, then they will continue worshiping him as they have done.

A two-party system means two big tents. Each tent will always contain the core ideologues of left and right, but the platforms are arrived at by (as the French say) putting a little water in your wine. Once in power, you govern from the center.

425 Desert Dog  Mon, Nov 3, 2008 8:08:27pm

The Republicans strayed from their core principles and we are paying the price. Fiscal responsibility, strong defense, belief in American exceptionalism, free trade, limited government, constructionist judges......We had the power and we pissed it away. We literally acted like the Democrats we demonize. President Bush did not help with his bungled handling of the war and subsequent forays into big goverment, i.e., prescription drug plan, etc. The Republicans in the House and Senate felt they would serve their constituents better by bringing home the bacon and spending money like water.

If we want to know why we are slipping in power across the board, all we have to do is look in the mirror. The Democrats certainly did not win on ideas or innovative plans for the future, they won because we blew it!

But, we can regain our lost place by getting back to basics. That is an inclusive approach. If we start purging the impure like Stalin on acid, we'll sink even further. However, we must stay true to the ideals that got us back in power again in the first place.

The fifth is usually social conservatism, but lately there have been movements in that base that are aimed at limiting liberties. (e.g. interferring in a State's right to set marriage law, etc.) This creates a cognitive dissonance that allows the left to moby in and split us easily.

Which is why I keep saying "individual rights". I think republicans need to come to grips with this concept, and if we're going to be intellectually honest, a lot of the so-called social conservative issues will fall away.

We need to be a party that stands for individual liberties, fiscal responsibility and government transparency. IHMO.

I wouldn't care if dems got to 60 if McCain/Palin win. The AZ gov is required to appoint someone from the resigning senator's party. Supposedly, she wants to run so she would likely appoint a weak candidate.

re: #410 Dark_Falcon

That will be hard to do. Those who are strongly socially conservative are a big part our base. For both of America's major parties then, I would lime to ask a follow up question: How does a party get it's base away from crazy? If both parties need to pull their bases back, how should they go about doing so?

I think the Dems base is crazy. This is why they are on the precipice...the Kos kids and the ACORN movement are their base. I think the GOP base is ultimately more interested in fiscal restraint/taxes. The GOP crazy vote usually goes along even when they are . And they vote. This was Reagan's success.

OT: Thank you for the updings a week or so ago when I was defending Judaism in a topic. I didn't see any of the dings for 4 or 5 days until I went back there to look for something. The argument went on too long, but it was the first time I've been online where the defense of Judaism wasn't deleted (since I've mostly been on mixed right-left message boards in the past and such places tend to eliminate religious Jewish explanations of Jewish scripture pretty quick.)

Anyway, thanks again!

I think it depends what your interpretation and experience with conservative absolutism was/is.

I think Reagan was an absolutist. He might have believed in Cre
