Election Day, Thread 5 - France Hearts Obama

Politics | Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 10:47:42 am PST

World hopes for a ‘less arrogant America’.

Among the more irreverent festivities planned in Paris: a “Goodbye George” party to bid farewell to Bush.

“Like many French people, I would like Obama to win because it would really be a sign of change,” said Vanessa Doubine, shopping Tuesday on the Champs-Elysees. “I deeply hope for America’s image that it will be Obama.”

“I deeply hope for America’s image that it will be Obama.”

Of course they do. They want a weak, socialistic United States....until they realize that the US will be the only nation that can save them from their own stupid decisions, alliances, and accomodations to fascists. By that time, it will likely be too late for them in Europe. They will either have to deal with the islamofascists or the nationalist fascists.

21 Intrepid  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 10:53:02am

Doesn't matter if we do end up electing Obama as president - Europe will still find reasons to hate us. It must be in the water there.

27 ErislDysnomia  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 10:53:36am

Schumer:

“The very same people who don’t want the Fairness Doctrine want the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] to limit pornography on the air. I am for that… But you can’t say government hands off in one area to a commercial enterprise but you are allowed to intervene in another. That’s not consistent.”

What a frigging idiot. One of the problems with Dems in Congress is that they think at the level of kindergartners. Maybe. They can't make a proper argument one would expect from a grade school debate club.

"Consistency?"

Do'h!

The government limits people from yelling "FIRE!" in a theater, but that does not allow government to limit what people say about the movie!

Practically no waiting; police officer present but unobtrusive. Of course, we still have DC's ridiculous "we don't need no steekin' I.D." policy. You could show up, say "I'm John Smith", wait as the poll worker opens to a page full of John Smiths, he asks you your address, you sneak a peek at the page and pick out your favorite John Smith that isn't already checked off, and say "oh, I'm the one at... 1313 Mockingbird Lane", and there you go. You're ready to vote.

There is also a huge disconnect between whom the media quote as representing 'the opinion of the people' and what real, normal people think.
Did these reporters ask French people in the vilalges, in the small towns?
No - same as the American msm representing as 'people' only those living in the major conurbations - overlooking those in flyover country.

One lady in Ohio reported a "pro-Republican" poster in the polling place at a local high school, within the no-electioneering boundaries.

When it was checked out, it was a high school poster about leadership, with a picture of Abraham Lincoln. The high school was told they did not have to remove it.

I can't wait until they ban flags as being too "Republican."

I voted! Aren't I special!

Same in Maryland.

Speaking of, uh, stupidity...

Virginia Congressman Jim Moran (D) says this:

For the last seven years we have had the highest corporate profit ever in American history. . . But it hasn't been shared, and that's the problem, because we have been guided by a Republican Administration who believes in the simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it. They have an antipathy toward the means of redistributing wealth. And they may be able to sustain that for a while, but it doesn't work in the long run.

Sigh

World hopes for a ‘less arrogant America’.

Fark the world, starting with the French.  I think our accomplishments here in this country are legendary, and I think we come by our pride honestly.  If we're not liked, screw them.

Was 12th in line this morning when the polls opened.  Heard lots of gushing of people around me about their voting, etc., but it was mostly business as usual there. Only disconcerting part was that the strips were already pretorn from my ballot, but I matched the numbers and they agreed.

Get everyone you can to vote.  Toured the country for the last 3 weeks and seemed to see in the rural areas more McCane signs than Obama, but the reverse in urban settings.  This gives me hope that we've got a chance.

189 LGoPs  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 11:45:32am

Late to the thread but just wanted to add this....
A random thought as I see my country changing in front of my eyes.......No matter how much tyranny and evil there was in the world, America always represented a refuge, a place to where oppressed people could struggle towards (and I mean politically oppressed, not economically. If you're economically oppressed fix your own damn country - don't bring the burden to us). My mom and dad (with me in tow) were two of those people that fought against totalitarian tyranny and saw America as a shining light that they struggled toward and thankfully were let in. That light is on the verge of being extinguished with the "Fundamental change that America will undergo" under an Obama presidency....change that my mindless fellow citizens have no grasp of the enormity of. When that happens, where will the oppressed of the world turn to.......there are no other places left. The West is weak and succumbing to socialism everywhere we look. Saddens me deeply........

Also troubles me deeply that whatever else Obama's shortcomings are........HE HASN'T EARNED THIS! As much as I disliked Hillary, she has been in the fight for many years. This guys done nothing but write 2 books about himself. And at least half of my fellow Americans think that's just fine. We've become an un-serious people and likely will get the government that we deserve.

The Bush administration alienated Muslims by.....

Imagine. The Bush Administration just got up one fine Sept. morning and decided to alienate Muslims.

I wonder what "Muslims" were doing that Sept morning. Were any celebrating? Why?

Of course even the alienating part is BS. Bush has done everything including bending over - and even making Israel bend over- to get them to "like" us and to get them to stop celebrating when they murder us.

You are with us or with the terrorists. Obama voters- you're with the terrorists.

after asking the following in post #183 :
Just wondering If the media were truly objective why is it Newspapers endorse candidates?

I got off my lazy a$$ and googled it. I found an article that made half decent sense until I read the very last line. This is what the msm really thinks, its no surprise to us lizards but seeing it in print was surprising.

"I think at the end of the day, we have a pretty informed opinion on the candidates, it's something voters can't do for themselves," he added.

Yup we're to stupid to form our own opinions.

Everytime I see something like this about France, I'm reminded of this Robin Williams comedy skit :)

195 Boolz  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:07:33pm

they do got a point...I'll be a lot LESS arrogant (or proud...or even admitting) to being an American if Obama wins.

196 freedombilly  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:08:38pm

Jim Moran Moron is scrambling after his very clear comments earlier. As I have said over and over again in this wonderful forum we must keep microphones and cameras in the faces of these liberals at all times.

They do more for our side than we could ever do for ourselves. Please Jim, keep talking. You aren't even smart enough to backtrack effectively. Moron.

Of course you do - that's he whole point of Election Day!

To the ignorant image is everything...
I for one look forward to a less arrogant and condescending France at some point in the future...

199 WestSea  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:10:24pm

France is jealous of America and have been for a long time - not long after we liberated them. They would like to see us knocked down a few notches to their level, so that our economy sucks like theirs, islamofacists start taking over like there; and our standing in the world is limited like theirs is. It looks like they may get what they want.

200 ugetwhatuputout  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:11:07pm

Maybe it would be enlightening for Frenchmen to see the change that Obama welcomes, like the two standing in front of the polling center in Philly. Doesn't that reflect what is so "hopeful" about Obama?

201 VioletTiger  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:12:56pm

I am hoping for a less french France.

Naaa - we don't hate that!
Got our own festivities - one is tomorrow.
And just so you know: if Guy Fawkes had blown up Parliament on Nov 5th, the Founding Fathers would not ahve had a chance of thinking, never mind creating, your Constitution and your Great Nation!

“Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.”

re: #127 midwestgak

That is funny, but I think it is also a damn good idea. There would be no way to vote twice, unless some briliant lizard can think of one. Any suggestions?

Cover your finger in theatrical Latex before voting then peel the ink off and vote again.

Let's ressurect George Patton and install him as President. We'd show them just how much french (or the rest of the world's) opinion matters.

FYI, George Patton was a Francophile.

"...a less arrogant America..."

A word about Dubya:

It fell to George Bush to be dealt the toughest Presidential hand since FDR. Two stock market crashes (one inherited), two recessions (one inherited), 9/11, two wars, a divided electorate and citizenry, and a hectoring, mean-spirited and overly critical press.

I think history will give him far more kudos, than we, as a country, are able to give him today.

And even though he has three months remaining in office, I'm quite thankful the United States has had GWB as president during these very difficult times.

Thank you for your service, Mr. President.

Well said. George Washington could not have survived under the relentless, treasonous onslaught that this President has undergone.
God Bless him........

nothing to add...very well put.

208 Wookieelips  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:29:36pm

So, I did a very dirty, liberal-esque thing today:

There were Obama supporters literally working the street corners, so when I drove by I gave a buddy-Jesus type thumbs up and grinned...then the thumb rotated to the side to show my middle finger pointing straight up and the grin disappeared.

They looked so confused.
Sure, it's dirty and pointless, but it felt good.
But hey, it's not like I threatened to riot or start a civil war or anything.
Also, right after I did that it started to rain on them.

209 Roark  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:33:32pm

just saw that guy from fivethirtyeight.com on shepard smith's studio b.

statistical probabilities are a bitch, man.

we gotta have VA to have a fighting chance, and the MSM will be calling that one at 7:01p.m.

I doubt he would have remained so had he lived to see France pull out of the NATO Central Planning Committee.

Norway is alight with the hope for change tonight, state run television reporting like Obama won yesterday and today is only for show. I on the other hand hope for more of the same now that our neighbor the bear is awake again.. Also South Park ruined the word "change" for me I cannot get this out of my head whenever I hear an Obama speech.

Good luck to you and happy election, or what you call it :)

212 vegasjew  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 12:52:45pm

Heh heh... so that's Irvine? Well, I'm in Hollywood, and I see no light.

Obama stickers everywhere I look.

No black panthers at the polls, but there were some gay activists handing out placards that say "Vote no on 8."

I pray the rest of the country is different.

214 iowavette  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 2:12:15pm

Does anyone anywhere really care about a french opinion on anything? I didn't think so.

DOB, amen to that. "W" means what he says. He saw through the noise of the weak-kneed old Europe and did what had to be done.

Dear France,

Sorry. We simply don't care about your opinion on this particular matter.

Love and kisses,
