No, unfortunately you're not.

So far, the beneficiaries of Obama's largesse with public, donated, or other-peoples' money has largely been an assortment of thugs and leftist groups like ACORN.

That's the MO of these groups. I can absolutely see Federal cash going to Nation of Islam, New Black Panthers, ACORN, and a whole bunch of other questionable organizations under an Obama administration.

That idea about EVERYONE showing up at their polling places with cameras rolling is a good one, I think.

At my polling place, there was a little old lady observer with a clipboard asking questions. She was probably every bit of 75 years young. Looked over at her clipboard, and it said "NAACP" on there.

She was asking a few black voters in line if they were unnecessarily delayed, how long it took them to vote, and if anyone's attempt to vote was "challenged".

It was great, actually.

***** You got to read this ******

Ok, I am in downtown Denver, standing in line at the pharmacy at Denver Health and Medical (country hospital) to pick up my blood pressure medication.

A black dude (is that racist?) behind me gets a phone call on his cell phone, evidently from a friend who just voted.

I can tell by the conversation that his friend, for what ever reason, was concerned that Obama may NOT win the election.

I'm posting this again because I'm still flabbergasted that democrats are finally dropping the mask. The democrat party is Marxist. Period.

For the last seven years we have had the highest corporate profit ever in American history. . . But it hasn't been shared, and that's the problem, because we have been guided by a Republican Administration who believes in the simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it. They have an antipathy toward the means of redistributing wealth. And they may be able to sustain that for a while, but it doesn't work in the long run.

143 hazzyday  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 11:31:39am

Voted at the polling place. Lots of people there. Also a stream of people dropping absentee ballots. There was a choice of Electronic touch pad voting which was slow and had a wait time, or fill out a ballot with no wait time but a person was at every booth. Then you slide your ballot into an optical counting machine. No Shenanigans here.

I like that in the US we can work towards a standard of peaceful and fair elections where each person has one vote and casts it fairly. No violence.

I was excited to vote this year. I never like the absentee thing. I like to go to a polling place and pull a lever.

There was no ID check. I did sign my name to a roll and I believe that is how they would check the validity of my vote if it came into question.

My polling place in Wasington state was well organized and staffed.

My husband and I just voted. There were no lines, but for the first time in 20+ years of living here, our polling place was completely run by African Americans. Usually the volunteers are all [white] senior citizens. Neither being racist, nor being one who subscribes easily to conspiracy-thinking, I have to say the uneasy thought of ACORN placing their people everywhere crossed my mind.

I suspect it's home grown. The clever thing about Obama and his campaign, he has managed to throw down just the right ideas that cause people to take a lead and go further with the idea, all at the same time, Obama has enough distance to claim plausible denialability that he or his campaign has started anything.

He was within 100feet (a distance, in some states, within which political activities are prohibited) of the entrance, but said nothing, so I, and apparently everyone else, took little or no notice.

I thought it a bit strange, since I've never seen this sort of behavior at my voting location anytime in the last ~20years.

Has anyone else (besides the people in the video) noticed similar occurances? A count of similar occurances and general location might yield useful information.

Something to think about. Orwell got it wrong.

In 1984, big brother watched us... in fact due to technology like camera phones, we the people watch the government and everyone else.

Reality is that everyone is carrying a video camera today.

How weird is that?

Orwell did not get it wrong. In England, for example, there is one CCTV for each 10 citizens, and many of these cameras are two way, they can talk to you, you can talk to them.

And the ability of people to watch each other so closely with cell phones and video camcorders portend just what Orwell was presenting in his book, everybody watching everyone.

Your premise is incorrect.

re: #143 hazzyday

Same here, very well organized. We only have paper ballots, you go in to your precinct, check in, which means you tell the two elderly ladies at the first table your name and address, no ID, they look up the address, check off your name and give you a ballot. You fill out the ballot, go to the check out table, tell the two other elderly ladies your name and address, they check off your name again, and you insert your ballot into the electronic counting box. I was #516 in my precinct at 8am et. this morning. My girls were #517 and #518 respectively.

This is a terrific example for a very strong 2nd Amendment Right that is attributable to all Americans in all locations and that is largely unobstructed by Government.

See how easy it is for just 2 thugs to intimidate an entire area? Classic.

Hell Killgore, you know, I've mentioned it before, that moonbat hippie anarchist ex-girlfriend of mine, OVER TWO YEARS AGO, told me that when the shit hit the fan, she would be the first one on the streets with a Molotov. And that was BEFORE Obama was anywhere near the Democratic ticket.

236 shiplord kirel  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 11:44:48am

Gee, how could such a thing happen?

Simple, 'Rat-Media Party election officials set it up:

GOP Observers Back In Philly Polling Places

The Philadelphia district attorney's office says it has restored Republican election observers who were kicked out of polling places.

Spokeswoman Cathie Abookire said Tuesday that the partisan disputes were compounded by a misunderstanding about the rules that govern certified election observers.

The McCain-Palin campaign complained of intimidation by Democratic election officials who were kicking Republican officials out of polling places.

Abookire said the GOP observers were allowed to go back in after a district attorney's team arrived.

She said a certified observer can go inside any polling place in Philadelphia and stay, as long as there are no more than two watchers in any polling place.

The problem is that all the polls indicate McCain is in for an epic ass kicking of historical proportions tonight. If he does win it's going to be very difficult to make it look credible.

Same stupid crap that happened with Bush in 2000. Bad polling facilitated false charges of "stolen election".

The difference now is that the boy has already cried "wolf" once before. The hotly contested election is precedented, and within recent memory.

If the Dem supporters lose and start to riot, that will hurt them more than anything.

289 Crusty  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 11:51:24am

Once again, what the left has falsely imagined for years about the right is, instead, true about the left.

In 2000 and 2004 Democrats charged that voters were disenfranchised because Republican poll watchers were "present" at the polls, which in their minds equated to intimidation of Democratic voters.

It is not intimidation. Poll watchers, from all parties, are supposed to be present.

The left has blood-thirsty Black Panthers with billy clubs and paramilitary uniforms blocking polling place doors and verbally harassing people with racial threats. That, Mr. and Mrs. Left-wing American, is voter intimidation and it's coming from your side of the table.

It won't set race relations back anything... those who integrate into the larger society will continue to do so and be successful, the rioter types will be self eliminating from success in society... Which of the two becomes the role model for the next generation?

Not here in Mass. You need a license to OWN a gun. We just had a case where a summer resident, a writer, had his home broken into over last winter. He was not there, was gone for the winter. A neighbor reported the break in to police, who, when they went in to secure the house, found 2 shotguns in a closet that had been rifled through.. They arrested and charged the homeowner for having unlicensed firearms and ammunition ( a separate charge). He was just convicted. Mandatory jail time. The burglars were never caught.

re: #243 devil in baggy pants

Plasma? LCD?

Would like to get a new TV... any lizards have any wisdom for me?

Yes.
Plasma (hands down).
I recently spent a LOT of time comparison shopping these in medium and high-end models, including side-by-side comparison of plasma-vs-lcd with the same source material, and came to the following conclusions:

a. The new LCDs are a lot better than the old ones, but good plasmas still beat ALL of the LCDs, even the high-end (and super-expensive) Sony Bravia models.

Plasmas just have more lifelike colors, and more important, have much better contrast when it comes to displaying DARK colors. If you are watching a movie with night scenes, the whole thing turns to mud, even on the best backlit LCD monitors. Plasma lets you see the details.

b. Screen "burn in" is no longer an issue with plasma sets, as all the ones made in the past several years have pixel shifting technology that prevents it. So video games are OK with plasma (if that's a consideration).

c. Size for size, large screen plasma TVs are cheaper than their LCD counterparts.

So for me this was a no-brainer. Plasma.

LCDs have really a few advantages: They have non-reflective screens, which could be an advantage if you can't shield your plasma from outside light better. (On the other hand, plasma TVs look better in a darkened room). LCD's have a generally brighter picture, again, better in a bright room. LCDs are physically a little bit lighter, though this likely isn't an issue since the things sit in one place most of the time. Lastly, LCDs use a *little* bit less power.

The guy behind me tell his friend...

"If Obama doesn't win, they are going to be seeing terrorist. The homeland type of terrorist. They'll be tripping alright, they'll be tripping."

G-d help me, this is true. It backs up some of the rhetoric that we have been hearing about trouble if Obama loses.

Seattle Paper Publishes Addresses of Homes with GOP Signs

Stranger + Drudge = One big bad election controversy

That was the question asked this weekend after a story in The Stranger earned the ire of national conservative blogs and got at least two Eastside households to call the cops -- and their lawyers.

"If I can take action against the paper, I will, there's no doubt about it," said William Buckley, one of the people whose homes was photographed and mapped in a Halloween-themed feature about residential properties with Republican campaign signs.

I can't imagine they're really hardcore jihadis, because those people go ballistic upon seeing even one picture of Mohammed -- much less intentionally reposting a thousand of them.

Perhaps they're people in the Arab world who are on our side, poking fun at the jihadis?

A mystery, to be sure.

re: #268 harrylook

You have a lot to do. First you have to take a firearms safety course. Once that is completed you have to go to your Police Department's firearms licensing officer and fill out an application for a Firearms ID card. That's if you're looking to buy something other than a handgun. If you want a handgun, particularly an auto with more than an 8 round clip, you have to apply for a Class A license to carry a concealed weapon. Assuming you have the $100 dollars and are willing to wait 4 to 6 months for the application to be processed you'll get your card. THEN you can go get a gun. Fun eh?

#194 Arbalest

There was a black guy, who looked to be in his 20's, hanging around outside my voting location (in N. CA) when I went in to vote earlier today.

See my post at #148. There weren't any African Americans standing outside, but were working as volunteers on the inside, which is a first in over 20 years of voting here in Southern California.

re: #215 Occasional Reader
Standing and breathing is not a problem, but hanging around frequently is. More importantly, hanging around at a voting location, at least the one in my area is quite unusual. For the past ~20years, I, and many others have always gone in, voted, then left. Additionally, the few people that I've talked to also do not remember anyone hanging around. There are occasionally exit pollsters, but they are far enough away from the voting location entrance, and they are always, IIRC, on public property. This guy was behaving differently, perhaps setting a precedent. If so, it seems worth noting, as this sort of precedent does not seem good; the video shows a bad result.

Really neat. Not my style, but really neat.

A man called in to CNN's Helpline on Tuesday wondering why the network hasn't reported the Black Panthers who were seen standing in front of a Philadelphia polling station this morning, one of them carrying a billy club.

According to the caller (audio available here), he was going to vote for Obama until a friend told him about this incident. The caller said, "Now Fox has broadcast this, and I want to know why CNN has not broadcast this yet."

No, I doubt that he did so. And he's not being disenfranchised or having his vote suppressed. Someone screwed up and affected 40 people at his polling place thus far. He went and got a judge to certify he was registered to vote.

What his situation shows is that the election system is truly broken in this country. Not every problem at the polls is some nefarious plot; most of the time it's the result of inept and bumbling bureaucrats who aren't doing their damned jobs to clear voter rolls of dead people and assure that those who are properly registered are included on the rolls.

Throw in the outright and real fraud and intimidation and you've got a serious mess.

Actually, something bizarro is going on in NYC. I had to vote by paper ballot attesting to my residency because over my name on the voter list it was printed "Removed by order of (some Judge)." And I voted in the primaries too. The poll workers were at a loss also to explain it.

I reported earlier that the same thing happened to me, then later at a different NYC site, to my brother.

My name wasn't on the list even though I had an election card. I needed to fill out a paper ballot, though they made it seem that it would be a hassle. I did it anyway and it took 2 minutes.

Then I received emails from my bro that they weren't letting him vote because his name wasn't on the register either. I told him to fill out a paper ballot and he said one wasn't offered. I told him to go back and demand a affidavit ballot. He just went back and voted.

Philly Polling Stations: no GOP allowed

GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in at least half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.

A Pennsylvania judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could be NOT removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening, according to sources on the ground.

It is the duty of election board workers to monitor and guard the integrity of the voting process.

Denying access to the minority (in this case Republican) poll watchers and inspectors is a violation of Pennsylvania state law. Those who violate the law can be punished with a misdemeanor and subjected to a fine of $1,000 and sent to prison between one month and two years.

Those on site are describing the situation as "pandemonium" and there may be video coming of the chaos.

Some of the precincts where Republicans have been removed are: the 44th Ward, 12th and 13th divisions; 6th Ward, 12th division; 32nd Ward, Division 28.

According the the 2nd Amendment, each citizen has the right to carry arms--even a gun. So, unless this guy is a felon or something, he should be allowed to carry a gun so that he can defend himself against criminals. Just because we might not like this particular guy does not mean that we can pick a choose when our rights are defended. Perhaps he thinks he needs to defend the voters against some other people who might show up there.

Omaha, Ne requires a permit to purchase and a permit to posses. At least they did in 1984.

Nebraska requires a purchase permit to purchase a hand gun and a concealed carry permit for concealed carry. The state excludes certain locations from the right to carry with a permit such as banks, bars, churches, government buildings. Localities, such as Omaha, can (and have) further exclude areas. In addition, any private business can, by posting a sign at the entrance, refuse CC on its premises.

There is no permit required to possess in one's home.

My favorite Obamazombie (sorry, Zombie!) moment today; a well-meaning liberal friend telling me she hopes Obama wins, "because he's such a nice guy". I demurred. "Well, better than Bush!" Um, I disagree. "Bush made this economic crisis!" Really? How did he do that? "With his... system!" Oh. Well, that explains everything.

It amazes me how many people have no idea how this financial crisis came about and who is to blame for it. Bush is the president so it must be all his fault. And they don't WANT to hear the truth.

Can't be certain OC, but it sure sounds like their good work. As luck has it, my son turned me on to this site just last night. Know he enjoys "This American Life" and so, wouldn't be surprised.

The show is made by latte-sipping libs, but occasionally does very good work.

In MA, Glock pistols are deemed too unsafe for any civilian to own. . .yet they are standard issue for most of the State police officers.

The ability to get a concealed carry permit in MA is HIGHLY dependent on the individual whims of the Chief Law enforcement officer in your given town.

In Boston, they are really only issued to a small number of people in select classes (that includes lawyers and doctors).

In Brookline MA, NOBODY gets to carry concealed. . .the Brookline Chief of Police reportedly even refuses to let his own off duty police officers carry guns!

At a fundmental level, our society does not resemble 1984. That world featured constant material poverty, extremely limited access to information, and zero opportunity to express one's independent thoughts. Our world looks very little like that - go to your local Sam's Club, and continue surfing on (and posting to) the Internet at your fingertips, if you don't believe me. Orwell did warn of certain trends to watch, however.

Orwell pegged the Soviet Union pretty well, with the thoughtcrime, etc. If you want a more accurate dystopian picture of the path of America, check out Huxley instead. In his future people were enslaved to totalitarian rule and were happy about it.

There is no right to use weapons to intimidate voters. A number of court rulings have held that displaying a weapon in plain view near a polling station is prima facie evidence of an attempt to intimidate voters, especially if the allegiance of the offender is obvious. Ironically, many of these rulings concerned the actions of an earlier and similarly easily to identify Democratic Party auxiliary, the KuKluxKlan.

re: #478 Ben Hur

I reported earlier that the same thing happened to me, then later at a different NYC site, to my brother.

My name wasn't on the list even though I had an election card. I needed to fill out a paper ballot, though they made it seem that it would be a hassle. I did it anyway and it took 2 minutes.

Then I received emails from my bro that they weren't letting him vote because his name wasn't on the register either. I told him to fill out a paper ballot and he said one wasn't offered. I told him to go back and demand a affidavit ballot. He just went back and voted.

My wife and I tried to vote this morning. I voted but they told her that her name was on the list. I know she is registered. They tried to call the election commission but the lines were busy. They acted like she just shouldn't bother. She had to go in at 9. Luckily I am off today, so I went down to the election commission. (I saw lots of people that apparently took Obama's advise and took the day off. I didn't just a coincidence) I showed them her I.D. and said I was here to see what was going on. They said she was registered but she had to go to the Veterans Hall. I said "that's where I just came from and they said she wasn't registered." Pretty odd, but she gave me her registration number and I went back and filled out an affidavit ballot for her and left it there for her(when I brought her number back to the polling place this was happening to quite a lot of people). Then brought her I.D. to her at work. She's voting when she gets off. Fighting for every vote!

MA is one of those states with a "safe list" of guns that are OK to use. There are all sorts of asinine requirements for gun compliance, such as redundant serial numbers, redundant safeties, drop testing, melting temperature of the gun (I kid you not), accuracy requirements, etc.

If its a "cool" or desireable new gun, chances are pretty good its not legal in MA.

If this is indeed a relevant path, most of the election workers at my voting place were Chinese. In 2004, I think that most were Indian (Indian Cultural Center). In 2000, Vietnamese. In each case, it seems that the organization hosting the voting activity had a significant effect. I forget the details about 1996 and 1992. But in all cases, no one was hanging around, outside the voting place entrance.

Figure that way some flunky assistant producer might at least OPEN the video...

Evidently, even though this video is all over their rival FOX, CNN doesn't see fit to do a story. Doesn't fit the liberal narrative they want to project.

And I don't know if it is grass roots grown, or some actual encouragement from the Dems.

I suspect it's home grown. The clever thing about Obama and his campaign, he has managed to throw down just the right ideas that cause people to take a lead and go further with the idea, all at the same time, Obama has enough distance to claim plausible denialability that he or his campaign has started anything.

It's dangerous.

That's also why his political mentor Billy Ayers was never convicted of anything. Barry has learned his lessons well.
