E-5 retirement and two small SS checks ... we aren't paying income tax, but increased business and other indirect taxes will still cut into what little we get, even without bringing in the syrocketing energy costs His Creepiness is promising. It ain't gonna be fun. And there are only so many Wal-Mart greeter jobs available for people our ages.

I try to be optimistic, but at the moment, that isn't exactly easy. The night's not over, though, and as long as McCain can manage not to concede and really blow it, there's a chance.

Still, to be honest, at the moment I feel like digging a hole, climbing in, and pulling it closed behind me. I was born and raised in a free country, and it's incredibly difficult to see it turning communist as I watch. I weep for the country I used to know.

Folks:

I said this in the chat, but I want to say it again. Look. I want to urge reason in the coming four years. Yes, we had to put up with 8 years of Bush Derangement Syndrome. But McCain's campaign slogan was "Country First". We need to stick to that. Yes, Obama is a raving liberal. But on the off chance that something good comes out of this Obama administration, don't attack it just because it came out of an Obama administration. Those are Democrat tactics. I guarantee that if we keep level heads and run a respectful opposition campaign, we can nail the buggers to a wall in 2010. Civility is, as far as I'm concerned, a very important part of Reagan conservatism. God bless America!

I agree in part, but we must fight for what we believe in and we must demand the same of our Republican leaders. THEY must not forget the treatment they have received in the last two years and they must not be afraid to use every single shred of their legislative power to push back against what is coming down the pike.

58 gozer the carpathian  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:08:37pm

As long as there are fine folks like my fellow lizards around the American dream still lives. We will be heard for the next four years and every crazy thing Obama does he will be held accountable for. When Americans wake up tomorrow and cheer or cry for the Anointed one we will still be here.

When Iran nukes some place we'll have known we warned of it coming. It'll be small comfort but we'll have a clear concience about it.

When Unemployment skyrockets and buisnesses leave or close in droves we'll know why it happened and how. We'll make sure to tell everyone who's to blame and why.

In the end we're an opposition party once again. But we must learn how to me a majority party before we get there again. I think America is about to get the beating it deserves for this stupidity. The only hope is that we'll actually LEARN something from this.

It is a sad night, but as always we'll pass the power peacefully.

Monty Python. Think on it. It's true. I'm pissed as hell to see us going down this road. All my friends are calling me and saying that Obama being black was the only prerequisite he needed to be president and that democratic socialism works in France and Cuba and Venezuela and how happy they'll be to see universalized health care and the Fairness Doctrine...

It's gonna be shitty, but this is our country. This is the United States of America! So a certain percentage of the country boned up big time, but hey, just like McCain said:

"America is worth fighting for!"

We'll take back our country for what it's suppose to be: A shining city upon a hill. We can pull together to reform our school system and prevent it from being a farm for socialism. We can pull together to reform our political system and prevent our treasury from being ravaged by extreme spending.

Yes We Can!
Yes We Can!
Yes We Can!

We'll pull it off in '10, folks. We can do it. We HAVE to do it. It's our duty.

I hate this. I knew it would happen and still it's like a knife in the gut.

Watch out for the celebration riots. I lived in Chicago when the Bulls were great, so I know what I'm talking about -- at least as far as Zero's home town is concerned.

Keep praying, keep fighting, don't make the same mistakes.

Let's try to take back the congress in two years, eh? Of course with the entrenched, massive fraud under the Obama administration we'll be lucky if we take any district at all.

Sorry to be a pessimist. It will always be country first for me. But I've got major sadness right about now.

98 Globular Cluster  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:14:39pm

Oh well. Let's hope he does a good job as president. Let's hope that his tax hike isn't too high. Let's hope that he takes on Iran and prevents them from getting nukes. Let's hope that he isn't buddy-buddy with Hugo Chavez. Let's hope that he fixes fannie and freddie mae. Let's hope that he doesn't sell Israel down the river. Let's hope that his civilian defense force isn't run by the Black Panthers.

Let's avoid Obama Derangement Syndrome and hope he does well.

That being said, prepare for the worst.

Hi guys...lookin' sad. I think, considering how unpopular President Bush is, thanks to the mfkingmedia, McCain did pretty well. I agree with the poster above that we need to keep it civil--keep voices raised, but keep it civil. Better candidates, we need, for sure. McCain goes back to the senate. Palin probably will run for Prez in 2012. I'm buying a button just to annoy my liberal friends. But, as I told my students, whoever is elected, is MY President. That if they keep that in mind, they won't let what happened to George Bush happen to BO.

The thing that absolutely GALLS me is the Pelosi Reid GLOATING that is sure to be going on big time.

I'm wondering what his first action will be? I remember being shocked senseless by Clinton's priority: Don't Ask;Don't tell.

101 DistantThunder  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:15:13pm

Our enemies who want to kill us are celebrating. Most people do not have the ability to discern the operations of a highly sophisticated liar. Politics is their religion, and it is black magic indeed. Oops, I didn't mean to imply anything racist - but of course, my intent is irrelevent.

This reminds me of the OJ trial - the truth leaked out over time - just wait until we see the picture of those Bruno Mali shoes.

102 Catttt  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:15:30pm

Forgive me for crossposting this, but the last thread got away from me while I was writing it.

Obama said the following, in a speech to Planned Parenthood:

"The first thing I'd do as president," he told a cheering audience, "is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."

He also has said that he is firm on this issue and will not change.

I truly hope he will not do this.

This is interesting, because according to Pew, between 1963, the black population increased from 22.3 million to 38.7 million. 10% of this was from immigration. Since 1973, about 13 MILLION black babies were aborted. This is about ONE THIRD the black American population, denied life by abortion. This is three times, ap, the rate of white babies being aborted.

I know we don't all agree on the big A. However, can you see what I am getting at? If you don't count immigration, blacks are reducing their population, as a percentage of growth, in this country.

And Senator O wants to make this easier, allow late term abortions, pay for them with tax money, and negate all state laws, as the FIRST THING he will do.

In those countries, the socialists don't want to destroy their countries. Call them "pro-social socialists."

Obama, Ayers and their ilk etc. do. They are "anti-social socialists."

That is the difference.

McCain - class to the end.

117 dentate  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:20:18pm

No one should be surprised by this, it has been a long time developing. Our presidential candidates are increasingly picked as celebrity idols, not as competent leaders. Even the staunchest supporters of W can hardly argue that he was the best thing the GOP could have come up with in 2000--name recognition, and a new face behind which more seasoned politicians thought they could exercise influence, were themes in that election too.

Our country has been betrayed by our cultural failure to differentiate between the TV and movies on the one hand, and real life on the other. News and entertainment are the same thing. Reality TV becomes reality. Reagan was perhaps the exception that proves the rule, but he at least had been a governor first!

One can only hope against hope now that, intent on securing a second term, BHO surrounds himself with advisors who will choose a more prudent, toned down approach than that which he advertised to gain this term. After all, much of this victory is a vindictive statement against Bush. That being said, I look around at the decades I have spent building up everything that I and my family have, and feel a deep sense of gloom that it will be frittered away on entitlement handouts to the lazy and the shiftless.

I am comforted by the hope that my children are still young enough that the losses and setbacks we may suffer in the next few years will not bother them as much, and that they will be among those who rebuild the country as it should be once it learns its lessons from this.

Pathetic. But certainly when you look at the popular vote, BHO hardly has a mandate. And interesting that all the talking heads, while analyzing the demographics of the votes, blithely breezed past the fact that 97% of blacks voted for BHO. Talk about racism.

I can understand the excitement and pride in the African American community that a man of African extraction is being elected president. It is momentous. But he's not an African American in the strict sense, and the only person he cares about is himself, and maybe his family.

And all it took was massive voter fraud, and getting people who have never given a shit about the electoral process to come out and vote based solely on race. Jefferson's concept about educated voters has an appeal tonight.

McCain is giving his concession speech, and is showing himself to be a true patriot and a true gentleman. He hushed the booers as they started. He's making me so proud of him. I wish I could feel as proud of the man who is going to run our country into the ground for the next 4 years.

Thankfully, the global commodity markets are easier to access than ever before. Yes America, congratulations on electing the first African American as President. I commend you for that. But good golly, how soon will you wake up to what you have wrought? And holy cripes -- you re-elected that assclown Murtha and the tool Franken. What a bunch of fools in those states.

147 1 US Sheeple  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:38:09pm

Well it looks bad for the US. The direct result of this victory will be that the opposition to the left (Obama et al) will be crushed. They will not be physically attacked at first but the conservative message to oppose the socialist will simply be blocked out! There will be total control of all current news outlets, the internet, and the current political opposition will be handcuffed. There will be an information black out and the only time you will learn of something you do not like will be when you see it on the street, you hear about it from someone who knows, or it comes to your front door.

Sure there will be those who will be VERY dissatisfied with the economy, foreign policy and the socialistic govt that we will have, but there will be no organized resistance because it will not be allowed.

The news black out will take care of most of the resistance and if someone does start to give problems they will be silenced by the leftist and it will all be done legally under the law. It will be done using the soon to be expanded civil rights laws, hate crime laws and the fairness doctrine.

The left will start with the dismanteling of what remains of the GOP. The GOP will be so savagely attacked that membership will be fighting for its survival and will have little time to mount any opposition to the left. It will be generations before this election is undone and there will be NOTHING that any organization (GOP, Libertarian, ets) will be able to do about it. Refer back to 1984 by George Orwell to see what is on the horizon.

The left has no compunction about using any means that it has to in order that they stay in power. The left has several models (communist, socialist, etc) that they can copy and believe me they will certainly do so.

148 NomadOfNorad  Tue, Nov 4, 2008 8:39:20pm

What is the likelihood of the Fairness Doctrine being presented, and getting passed? And, should things go that way, what can we do to STOP it?

On the other hand, even if it DOES come in... it wouldn't apply to the blogosphere. But I also think the very ATTEMPT to bring back the Fairness Doctrine would stir up a hornets nest of protest.

Any resistance will be portrayed as "right wing milita" who want to overthrow the US Govt. Resistance will be castigated on every hand and the sheeple will be told that those that oppose Obama's Govt are racist fanatics and that it is the duty of every citizen to oppose this horrible movement.
Think of being portrayed as the KKK because that is what it will be seen as. Gaining any support will be a long slog and it could take a generation or more to right the ship of state.
I don't like the prospects any more than you do, but you have to remember that only a third of the population supported the Revolution and two thirds were either on the fence or outright opposed the rebellion against the Crown.
What I am trying to say is the prospects for resistance in any form will be very tough.
The left has been working for this moment for a long time and they are not going to give up their advantage without trying every dirty trick in the books.

re: #12 ClosetConservative

-ClosetConservative

No, we don’t need Obama Derangement Syndrome (we had Clinton Derangement Syndrome and it didn’t accomplish anything). But we do need to point out loudly and plainly every instance in which the Obama Administration so much as nods toward the redistributionist, pacifist, anti-libertarian and anti-traditionalist expectations we have of him.

Yes, everyone says that it's an historic advancement for America to put its Jim Crow past behind it and elect an African-American President.

Except the sad historical fact is that African visitors to the South often were given access to White-only facilities because they were not descendants of slaves. And today a child of an African and a Kansan (by way of Hawaii) is becoming President, and he is being confused solely on the basis of skin color with the descendants of slaves. Obama has about as much claim on the legacy of the Greensboro lunch counter as Eminem does: both of them appropriated the genuine struggles of Black Americans to create their own brands, their own schtick.

re: #117 dentate

No! Not gloom! Never gloom!

Gloom is a passive emotion, a resigned apprehension about future disappointments and disasters.

You need to feel active apprehension, the kind that makes you a little bit angry and triggers your adrenaline for the fight ahead.

The "sheeple" voted for Obama because they decided not to find out who he really is and instead became fully invested in who they wanted him to be. Our job going forward is to point out each and every action and word of Obama's that reveals him for what he truly is. He is not nearly the chameleon that Bill Clinton was, and he will soon enough provide evidence of his true agenda for America -- and we have to make sure that the "sheeple" open their eyes and see that evidence clearly.

re: #160 1 US Sheeple

What can I tell you? Resisting Marxists or totalitarians of any stripe is no walk through a rose garden. However, we must keep our spirits high and remember that God in ultimately in charge, not any temporary cabal of thugs in power. Freedom is our God-given right, and it must be defended at all costs, but without fear or hatred in our hearts, so what if it takes a generation or two? We shall still resist!

Take Venezuela today as the closest example. After 10 years of Chavez rule, Venezuelans have not given up the fight. They keep resisting, using the Constitution passed by Chavez nine years ago, and finally they seem to be gaining ground against the thugs, their brutality and oil money. Some day, they will prevail and kick Chavez and his goons out of power and into prison. History works that way. The price? Lots of suffering along the way. Their prize? A free country again, with a renewed democracy. And remember, there is simply no comparison between Venezuela and the USA in terms of size and institutional culture and strength, so why should we despair? Let's soldier on and be ready!

We're looking at 8 years of irreversable decline into socialism, here. We've already seen it - no screw-up sticks. The One can do no wrong. The damage will last longer than I will.

The only hope is if the novelty of his special status wears off. I wouldn't hold my breath.

A friend of mine is a pastor and he said in January, 2008 that Obama would be elected Pres of the country. He maintained that America was slated for decline because in the "end time" we play no role in world affairs because the forces of the Anti-Christ are to be the strongest military force on the planet.

Frankly, I was skeptical about this and felt that this was inconceivable. However, after what has transpired recently in the election, I am not sure that this will not happen.

If America is to brought to her knees and is to play no role in world events then the prospect of a removing a leftist govt and salvaging our future is bleak.

This scenario has been in the back of my mind and after the election results it seems that this could be happening right before our very eyes. The left has the power now and as I have stated previously they will not hesitate to grind down anyone or anything in their way.

re: #168 1 US Sheeple

We're on some common ground here. I predicted early in January that America would elect Obama as POTUS, based on the fact that Hillary would be so polarizing that she would fuel her own nemesis in the primaries, and that the only guy that could become that was BHO (Edwards is a joke), and then he would trounce any Republican due of the sheer intensity of the BDS ailing the country. It saddens me to have gotten it right after all we now know about the next President.

If your pastor friend is right, then it is even more important to be brave but honorable and righteous, not because we would then save America, but because our souls would be in the line. Anyway...

If He is the anti-christ, then we will be looking at a few years of remarkable work on his part as he ascends to global prominence, ending with a truce in Israel that will proport to last for seven years. Israel attacking Iran's nuke facilities, Hezbollah, Hamas, and fat ah counterattacking and being largely wiped out by IDF, globalization of the financial markets and the temporary stability that brings, and then nuke reductions and global government will be followed by the rapture.
Or he'll just fuck up the country bad enough that the real anti-christ will be able to do all the rest without much of a fight from the US.
God help us and forgive us, we know not what we have done.
