Here in Utah, I drive past a Ron Paul sign pretty much every day. I think they actually replaced it a couple of months ago because the old one was vandalized.

Acetone (nail polish remover). No more spaghetti sauce. Or keys, for that matter.

20 thedude  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 3:59:17pm

a viewpoint received in a mass emailing today...

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that in recognition of his support for Obama, I was implementing the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application. Too bad that more of these Obama supporters are not able to experience his policies first hand before they cast a vote to destroy the country.

21 Dr. Slogan  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 3:59:36pm

But the lives of conservatives will be hardly empty going on. Obama has received only 52% of the popular vote, despite all of his investmets and media bias. So as long as we learn from this election and use it as opportunity to rebuild the conservative movement and actually turn into something much more meangful than it is today, we can still prevent he worst things from happening.

I know one gal who's gonna have an awful time trying to figure out how to spend her spare time now. She'll spend some time gloating and once he actually gets into office and starts falling on his face, she'll spend time trying to justify everything that goes wrong thanks to BHO.

Another friend had someone come to her door this morning canvassing to raise funds for "Literacy for Kids". She told them her bank account was empty and to go talk to Barack! I don't think they'll appreciated her response.

Good Evening Everyone! I just got into LGF after multiple (40+) attempts today. Every time it said Cannot connect to the server. I am so relieved to finally get on the site.
Charles, Thank you for your level head and big heart and for hosting this great website.
PJM had an audio recap of the election from last evening by Allapundit that I just listened to and enjoyed.
One of the 5 guests, brought up the question about What will happen to the MSM and newspapers post election, now that conservative Americans have seen first hand how unethical and biased it has become. One guest said well maybe now he could start charging for his work online.
It made me think about this alot.
Charles, Suggestion: If this is the case and possible to do, what about YOU, Charles Johnson, doing a daily feature story. Perhaps it's time for us all to start considering LGF with a VALUE attached. Tips are nice, but this has got to be oh so expensive without advertising to offset the costs. Perhaps charge for outside of membership participation to read it online. Members who are currently registered could contribute an annual payment based upon a sliding scale determined by the amount of postings they submitted. This would help pay for the power, updates to the system, and make LGF a world wide web newsource. LGF is the place to come to find out what IS actually happening here and will become more and more popular worldwide now that all the media sources are known to clearly be in the tank. Who will tell the truth? We will. What ya think?

My question is...

If they were almost completely unhinged while conducting a "political campaign" to put The Anointed One in the Oval Office, now that they'll be in power, what will they do with the power?

Somehow, I don't think the words "magnanimous" and "restraint" are in this bunch's vocabulary.

Are we more screwed now than when Carter won the Presidency?

Carter did not have the shady associations that Obama did far as I know, and was not associated with fraudulent fundraising, associations with & actually working with criminals* and 'squirrely' (if you get my drift) organizations, and all the other sins that Obama has.

Carter was a linguini spined and ineffectual liberal, but not a thoroughly corrupt leftist (correct me if I am wrong).

So, we really are more screwed now than then.

I think I may not turn on TV news or read a newspaper ever again.

I just read the newwpaper account of my hometown describing the election yesterday here. It bears no relationship to what actually happened. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.

I was on the ground. I was there confronting ACORN lawyers and thugs intimidating the poll workers and the voters. I was there when they called the cops. I was there when I called the cops. I was there when they tried to have the pastor of the church housing the polling place arrested. I was there when the ACORN thugs started dragging people from the neighboring housing project in and filling out registration forms for them.

I was there.

Yet according to the local papers everything went like cotton candy in Unicorn-land.

There is no relation to what you read or hear in the MSM to actual events on the ground. I have the police reports to prove it.

105 lifeofthemind  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 4:17:35pm

I have been trained to experience an Obama transition. Some years ago I was ordered to be the Shore Patrol Officer for the evening in Olongapo City, Subic Bay Philippines. The job consisted of dividing up the assigned troops from every ship in the port into teams, sending them to their assigned sectors, going around to check that they weren't slipping off to an assignation with a bar-girl, at least until after the SP duty ended, and seeing to it that intoxicated sailors got back to their ships intact. First thing I did was choose the biggest ugliest sailor available to go around with me. After I won that argument it was a fairly pleasant evening. Just remember to always remove all glass from the table before waking up a drunken sailor. The area patrolled consisted of two streets Magsaysay and Rizal that formed a T ending at the famous "Bridge Over the River Shit" that lead into the Naval Station.

At the end of the period given to our patrol I met some of the men at the top of the T. We then marched down the street to the bridge at the bottom as other members of the patrol fell in with us when we reached their assigned posts. Behind us a enormous din arose as the bars erupted now unconstrained by any formal presence. The girls leaned out of the windows blowing kisses and calling for the troops in my patrol to hurry back. I imagine that the departure of the Roman Legions from Britain may have elicited a similar scene. The departure of the Republicans from Washington and the arrival of the Democrats behind them will produce a similar orgy.

They spent a lot of money buying that election. I think they could have bought most Americans for much less -- a $50 gas card per voter, times 62 million votes, comes out to only $310 million.

Actually, that would come out to $3 billion.

The Obama campaign won because it had more volunteers and more money. And even then, it would not have won.

But Obama is young and charismatic, and McCain is neither.

And even so, Obama would not have won.

But we hit a perfect economic storm, breaking in the middle of the campaign. For those who have watched the movie, there comes a point at which the situation is just beyond repair. McCain gave a valiant effort, but a 30% (or so) market dive in one month, rising unemployment and foreclosures, and the MSM lying its head off about the Community Reinvestment Act and Raines' corruption at FannieFreddie and its having seeded the whole mess, swamped his effort.

(my post was a copy of what I said here in one of my buck up camper speeches - my call to revamp our party and be at the ready when BHO screws up).My initial reaction was to say "I would thank G-d for the miracle", but perhaps that is a bit flip. We can do the same thing, you know. I bet we can pick someone from here, manage a campaign and take our country back. This group runs circles around the yahoos who ran McCain's campaign, and just about all of us could have debated Obama and been more effective. Should I go get a tin foil hat? Or check my oxygen levels? Because I am sitting here and can actually name screen names of people who could pull this off.

re: #75 boogberg

What if the US is doing pretty good when the 2012 elections roll around? Would any lizards vote to re-elect Obama? I voted for McCain but I'd have a hard time voting against Obama if substantial improvements were made across the board.

Unlikely. The Exalted One's announced "initiatives" sound very much like what Jimmy Carter wanted to do in the 1980-84 timeframe, and which he probably would have done if not forestalled by the small problem of losing the 1980 election to Ronald Reagan. Those policies would have been disastrous then, and they will be disastrous now.

I really cannot see that President-Elect Obama's plans have the potential to do anything but tremendous harm to this country economically, legally, and in terms of foreign policy. I also do not see any evidence that he will miraculously transform himself into a moderate centrist, as Christopher Buckley and Peggy Noonan seem to believe. He is simply too convinced that he is absolutely right about everything, and that anyone who disagrees with him is ridiculously wrong. Yes, he said he would listen to those who disagree with him. So did Carter. Then Carter went ahead and did what he always intended from the start. I expect Obama to do the same.

His principal problem for the next four years, as I see it, is that sooner or later he and his followers are going to run out of scapegoats to blame their failures on- just as Carter did. I predict that, sooner or later, there will be an Obama "national malaise" speech, or its equivalent, in the National Archives right next to Carter's- under the heading "Things Presidents Should Know Better Than To Say To The American People".

Myself, I will at least be able to entertain myself until 2012 watching the lot of them whining that "It's Not Our Fault!"

(Well, actually, kiddies, yes, it is. As The Doctor once said, you buy your privilege to experiment at the price of absolute responsibility for the consequences.)

But I will truthfully be able to say it's not my fault. Because I voted for the other guy.

cheers

re: #170 lostlakehiker

But we hit a perfect economic storm, breaking in the middle of the campaign. For those who have watched the movie, there comes a point at which the situation is just beyond repair. McCain gave a valiant effort, but a 30% (or so) market dive in one month, rising unemployment and foreclosures, and the MSM lying its head off about the Community Reinvestment Act and Raines' corruption at FannieFreddie and its having seeded the whole mess, swamped his effort.

This is true. It's probably unparalleled in any election in U.S. history to have such a mega-cataclysm during the campaign. The fact that the election was so close in relative terms speaks to the intense doubts this country has about Obama.

Perhaps we should be more forgiving - a good % of people panicked. Many will certainly have impulse buyers' remorse.

And I am not a conspiracy theorist regarding the timing of the economic collapse, although you can be sure if Mac won, the left would be attributing it to the collapse as engineered by Karl Rove.

Congratulations to France for electing a man of African descent to the presidency! What? They didn't either? Oh, I am sorry, it must have been Spain then. No? Hmmm. Germany then! No? What the...? Surely it must be that bastion of multi-culturism, The Netherlands! No? Ummm, Belgium? Portugal? Wait! I know, it was Switzerland! Wait, you mean to tell me, that no one in the EU has ever elected an African descendant to high office?

Hmmm, they sure seem to know that our choice in the US was the best. Perhaps they'll follow their own advice and elect one next time. Otherwise, they'd look like hypocrites.

Actually they're abandoning printing "news".

Two quick thoughts:

Anyone else see all those college kids from George Washington Univ. hopping around outside the White House last night? Some even in hammer and sickle garb? How funny--their parents are paying the highest tuition in the country this year, for that kind of idiocy.

Also, did anyone else notice that all the Obamas were wearing red and black? Aren't those signal colors used by the Bolsheviks and then the Cubans during the 26th of July movement? Just saying. That dress did nothing for Michelle, no matter the color--the cut was weird.

Ojoe (#241),

Scipio Africanus wasn't from Africa.

Scipio was born in 236 BC in Rome into the Scipio branch of the Cornelii family. Several ancestors had been consuls successively, and his great-grandfather, Lucius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus, had been patrician censor in 280 BC. The Cornelii were counted among the six major patrician families

He was best known for defeating Hannibal at the Battle of Zama, a feat that earned him the agnomen Africanus

Publius Cornelius Scipio (Africanus) was born in Rome to the Scipio cadet branch of the Cornelii family. The appellation "Africanus" was an agnomen, or "honor name", commemorating his victory over Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, at the Battle of Zama.

MSNBC reports Rahm Emanuel offered position of White House chief of staff:

"Democratic officials told NBC News that Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel was offered the job of White House chief of staff, and that he had accepted. A spokesman for Emanuel, however, was unable to confirm the appointment.

The job remained top priority, because the chief of staff helps manage the appointments to come. A former aide in Bill Clinton's White House, Emanuel was re-elected to Congress on Tuesday.

The nation's top intelligence officials planned to give him top-secret daily briefings starting Thursday, sharing with him the most critical overnight intelligence as well as other information he has not been allowed to see as a senator or candidate. And Obama planned to give the first of his media briefings on Thursday as he moves to begin assembling a White House staff and selecting Cabinet nominees.

Obama announced that his transition team would be headed by John Podesta, who served as chief of staff under Clinton; Pete Rouse, who has been Obama's chief of staff in the Senate; and Valerie Jarrett, a friend of the president-elect and campaign adviser..."

I was going through my file of funnies I've collected over the years, saw the following and thought I'd post it here. Unfortunately it didn't give the author's name, but I think there are a number of versions floating around of this same theme.

The "two-cow" explanation of what makes...

A Christian: You have two cows. You give one to your neighbor.

A Socialist: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor.

A Republican: You have two cows. So what?

A Democrat: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. You vote people into office who tax your cows, forcing you to sell one to raise money to pay the tax. The people youvoted for then take the tax money and buy a cow and give it to your neighbor. You feel righteous.

A Communist: You have two cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk.

A Fascist: You have two cows. The government seizes both and sells you the milk. You join the underground and start a campaign of sabotage.

Democracy, American-style: You have two cows. The government taxes you to the point you have to sell both to support a man in a foreign country who has one one cow, which was a gift from your government.

Capitalism, American-style: You have two cows. You sell one, buy a bull and build a herd of cows.

Bureaucracy, American-style: You have two cows. The government takes them both, shoots one, milds the other, pays you for the milk, then pours the milk down the drain.

An American Corporation: You have two cows. You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows. You are surprised when the cow drops dead.

A French Corporation: You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows.

A Japanese Corporation: You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce 20 times the milk.

A German Corporation: You have two cows. You re-engineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month and milk themselves.

An Italian Corporation: You have two cows, but you don't know where they are. You break for lunch.

A Russian Corporation: You have two cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 12 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka.

A Swiss Corporation: You have 5,000 cows, none of which belongs to you. You charge for storing them for others.

An Indian Corporation: You have two cows. You worship them.

A Taliban Corporation: You have two cows. You turn them loose in the Afghan "countryside" and they both die. You blame the godless American infidels.

A represenative of the Obama administration was handing out victory checks and coupons good for free gas.

Right next store to the shopping center, a community of brand new homes started construction today and the model homes had long lines of eager buyers.

When I left the supermarket and stepped outside, I noticed there is now a trolley that passes right down my street. And the air seemed cleaner, the moon brighter and the birds, they were singing songs all in unison.

Oh, and the pothole right outside of my apartment door, the one I kept falling into, was filled in.

Well hello everybody, I didn't log on at all yesterday- rented 3 movies- only briefly looked between changing dvds- sickening. Watching 2 more now! My thoughts are- this is what we get for being nice guys. Reason logic calm cool consideration- what did they get us? A humiliating loss! It feels like Germany in 1933. Politics is war without guns, (mostly). We didn't go to war. War is insane bloodthirsty violence. We were gentlemen. It was like before WW1 when the State Department said we didn't read other countries mail in the diplomatic pouches when we had a chance because it was the right thing to do. Now of course we have James Bond- anything goes for survival. Didja check out the black panthers with the nightsticks at the polling station in Philly? Nice. And the BO supporters waving the Red Hammer and Sickle flag in front of the White House? Well, Jimmah Carter's second term is about to begin- get your sweaters out- B.O.'s gonna wipe out the coal industry and raise electricity prices- (I'm all electric I care!). More jobs will be lost, and like Joe the dumber Biden said - other countries will test the Havard sissy- (Russia is already moving missles near Poland and the PLO is lobbing missles into Israel again)- the stock market dropped almost 500 pts (what would the MSM be saying if Mclame won and it dropped?)- now nothing.
The meek shall inherit the dearth. So go on being nice guys- I think it is a losing strategy- I want better tactics. Great, sleep soundly because you ran a clean race- phhhttt- I'm not sleeping soundly. I guess the libs are right- the folks are dumb lemmings that need to be told what to do. Us intelligencia are in the minority. We will be crushed like bugs. New strategy and tactics are needed. Later- much.

Totalitarian behavior. It's remarkably ecumenical, philosophically speaking.

In early 17th Century France, news broadsheets had to pass muster with a government office run by one Cardinal Mazzerini- whose patron' was the famous, or infamous, Cardinal Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu, First Minister of King Louis XIII.

Definitely a party loyalist perhaps even a "hatchet" man, but deeply, deeply pro-Israel and the choice of him as chief of staff is more significant than his, for example, having dinner, with the PLO spokesman.
Again, from the LGF point of view, Obama's socialist dalliances have been things to fear, but the guy has shown himself as an ultimate pragmatist.
I am almost ready to bet that he will end up messing up the moonbats who expect the their idea of the best rather than us who expect our idea of the worst.

You know. It's always possible that this guy's ego will prevent him from making a real fool of himself.

Let's face it, he DOES have a massive ego. Maybe he will change the world, if not just for his own satisfaction.

one has to admit that the Dems have suffered tunnel vision for 8 years and focused on the regaining control of the White House, Congress ever since they lost control of such in 2000...the constant onslot of negativity on Bush, etal coupled with the backing of the media helped their cause...the GOP mishandled their power with inept leadership, vision, objectivity thus losing control of the Congress in 2006... so many wake up calls for the GOP prior to 2006 to present and they failed to head it...it is unfortunate that McCain lost but not surprising...so frustrating that the GOP has failed in playing hard ball with the Dems as they have with the GOP...GOP definitely needs new, young talent and vision...David Potraeus would be an excellent choice if such was possible...

just my opinion for what it is worth...

Man, let's hope you're writing the script, there.

Just prognosticating like the rest of us. I do think my comments on Obama's personality going back to the primaries have borne out, only because I am multiracial and grew up around multiracial people at schools like his and he seems to me to have a typical mixed-race (how can I make all these people get along before they realize I am different) type personality -- as well as the grandiosity and narcissism that comes from feeling special and different-- which almost every mixed person of privelege exhibits at some time in their life.

I also feel that LGF has consistently underestimated Obama's basic skills even though they have been on wide display (and yes the MSM is nauseating as is the adulation).

My dad a Fire Department Chaplain administered a fund that all the churches in the area donated to help folks with emergency needs. The rule was the need would be met, gas or food bought, rent paid, transportation to attend to family emergency, but no money was handed out. A lot of folks came seeking help. 9 out of 10 people asking for help turned it down when they found out the help was not in the form of cash.

Same here. It's sort of like a lot of books of that nature, ones that are almost to complex to translate to screen. Sometimes, the movie version does not quite reach the level of the book, but hey, it's nice to see it on screen, even if it does fall a bit short.

I felt the same thing about Lynch's "Dune." Not perfect, but after Herbert rejected 20 screenplays before Lynch's, hell, it was better than nothing.

Shep and Cameron are using her as steppingstones into Pres. Obama interviews. The worse they can make her look the better for them and their bottom dollar.

Until one becomes very polished interview content can take the tone of the interviewer or the audience. It's a leap at each stage of public interactions. Part of the Palin progression. I recognize her as a leader who can get things done. That is the bottom line they should be reporting on.

This back biting the two of them are doing is just so much ... neurotic behavior that makes a certain class of people look bad if one is given to pre judging. Unprofessional they are.

Rahm Emmanuel supposedly was at a Clinton victory dinner, stood up with a steak knife and recited a list of people who had betrayed Clinton, plunging the knife into the table with each name. From what I hear, as a partisan he makes Karl Rove look like a pussycat. My first thought was that Barry was going to screw what's left of the Republicans; maybe Rahm's job is really to keep Congress (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Clintons) in line.

The GOP was in disarray, the Lefty pundits said that they were through as a party.

2 years later they won back the congress after 40 years!
Politics turns on a dime. This is a learning experience and should be looked at positively. The GOP is NOT through...they are just getting their bearings back.

Probably-maybe-hopefully. Definitely not as quickly, and I think the only reason they were able to get back so quickly was because they were able to work with Clinton.

Either way, I will probably not be part of the GOP in that time period.

You think he was asking for spare change because he had a job?

Your quote specifically said "I refuse to give to people that refuse to help themselves". You are making a positive statement that he actively, consciously chose his situation.

Were you there when he made this choice? How privileged you must be, to have the intimate trust of someone you hate so vehemently!

Or maybe you're just assuming he did something that conveniently gives you the opportunity to dump your bad attitude on him.

Tell you what: I lost my job today. I was expecting to lose it Friday, but plans got shifted. Yes, I will look for work. I will do what I can to hold it together, and I have some help lined up to this end. But if I am reduced to begging change on a street corner (that's a long trip down for me), you can bet your last fucking dollar it won't be because I chose it. And you are an arrogant ass for presuming to blame others automatically for their situation. Sometimes it is their fault, but not always, maybe not even half the time.

And when you actually do know what's in the mind and heart of someone you met five seconds ago, then you will have more Messiah-ship in your pinky than 0bama can ever have in his entire life. And maybe you can even run for President. Until then, you are not God, you are not Messiah; you are just a judgmental, money-grubbing snob with any excuse not to help real need that's right in front of you ("my man lost the election, so I'm going to punish you"), and you fulfill all the stereotypes liberals try to heap on us.

re: #453 dahveed

I just passed a guy who was begging for money on the street. He asked for spare change. I told him to ask Barack Obama for money.

Over the next 4-8 years the government will take what I earn and give it to a bunch of mooches. I am not going to do it without a fight. My company went under partly because of people that took no personal responsibility for their actions decided to not pay their loans.

I will pay my taxes honestly, I will contribute to certain charities, but I refuse to give to people that refuse to help themselves and not think there are any consequences.

Speaking of which- I informed my shul and the local Jewish agencies that I would not longer be donating money to them, effective November 4, 2008.

I wrote that because they had sold out their Jewish brethern and Israel, in order to elect the least qualified, but politically correct person. . .HE would now be in charge of making up any shortfall. . .

My shul actually called me to reconsider, I declined. Dance with the 'one' that you brung. . .

So, anyone know any charities that support Israel directly? I got money for them. . .

So, we really are more screwed now than then.

Well, first, so far it's all hypothetical.

I suggest the closest historical precedent is probably Woodrow Wilson - about which time, I'm afraid I know too little. And things are rather different now, in so many ways. The next closest precedent is probably Lenin, but that might be overstating things just a bit.

You reminded me of shore patrol in Olongopo back in the early 70s. I pulled duty New Year's Eve, and I was standing at the Shit River Bridge, hustling sailors back across before curfew started, when a nearby Filipino militiaman suddenly jacked a round into his rifle, aimed, and shot a Filipino guy trying to swim the river to get to the base. The militiaman and a couple of his buddies hauled the resulting corpse out of the river, then returned to nonchalantly watching the stream of drunken sailors stagger back home.

The Onion News Network is many times funnier than The Daily Show and, let's face it, Stewart's three little shticks are getting tired. The onion bits are well produced and delivered in the deadpan that they have mastered in their narrative "reporting." There's a news brief in today's edition about John McCain getting hammered at a VFW post in Phoenix in the wee hours of election night. Again, very funny stuff. What sets the onion apart from The Daily Show is brilliant satire. The onion has it and TDS is just a steaming pile of mean sarcasm and ridicule. In most cases, there's nothing funny about about it. Hey, perfect viewing for Obama devotees!
