In an article about right-of-center blog reactions to the Obama victory (you knew this was coming), Hatington Post smear merchant Jason Linkins seems to approve of what I wrote about social conservatives earlier today, titling his link to LGF: “Hey! Let me make total sense for just a second!

Hey, Jason! Take your approval and shove it. Sideways.

No need to get back to me on this.

Watching the post election coverage, I got the distinct impression that among some black voters, there was an element of revenge in electing O. 51 Steffan  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 6:00:08pm

Charles:

Newsbusters pointed out that Michael Crichton predicted the death of the MSM fifteen years ago.

I am the author of a novel about dinosaurs, a novel about US-Japanese trade relations, and a forthcoming novel about sexual harassment - what some people have called my dinosaur trilogy. But I want to focus on another dinosaur, one that may be on the road to extinction. I am referring to the American media. And I use the term extinction literally. To my mind, it is likely that what we now understand as the mass media will be gone within ten years. Vanished, without a trace.

There has been evidence of impending extinction for a long time. We all know statistics about the decline in newspaper readers and network television viewers. The polls show increasingly negative public attitudes toward the press - and with good reason. A generation ago, Paddy Chayevsky's Network looked like an outrageous farce. Today, when Geraldo Rivera bares his buttocks, when the New York Times misquotes Barbie (the doll), and NBC fakes news footage of exploding trucks, Network looks like a documentary.

By all means, go read the whole thing. It's not just a keeper, it's worth bookmarking.

I remember Al Gore's magnanimous concession speech that made Chris Matthews all weepy with its grace and talk of working together. Look how long Democratic grace lasted back then. Let's face it, come January 1, it is on. And another thing, I voted for McCain despite him being a traitor to the second and first amendments to the Constitution because I couldn't stomach a Marxist. Charles is right, the religious right can just keep their mouths shut if they want my vote. I believe as strongly in the Fourth Amendment as I do in the Second because I am not a F'ing hypocrite. And if people think we have the power to deny gay people the 'right' to get married, then the government has the right to f*#k with any aspect of our private lives. Let's focus on what made this country great, small government with limited powers and the freedom to do whatever the f*ck you want as long as you don't hurt someone else. Any proposal beyond that, and you are losing me.

No, the ethics in the 18th and 19th century were better. Today's media like to pretend they're hiding their political affiliation and are unbiased. As soon as Palin started hinting at mentioning Bill Ayers, McCain told her to shut up immediately, lest she cause him to win the election.

I for one welcome our new liberal overlords... but on a more serious note:

This nation has survived some tough times. World war(s), domestic and world economic distress, and even civil war. We have been tested in just about every way imaginable, and yet we go on. We have even survived numerous presidents who's judgment was less than adequate, or who's experience didn't measure up to expectations.. James Buchanan, Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, and Jimmy Carter for instance.

That being said. I have allot of faith in this country, and believe we can survive just about anything, that's what we do.

I wish the President elect the best of luck, not only because of his victory in this election, but also as I have an uneasy feeling he and this country are going need it in the next few years. Who knows, he may surprise us all.

I got a fundraising email from my daughter's school today. They wanted me to donate $10,000 for their capital campaign (it's a private school). This was the response I sent (names redacted):

Dear [name redacted],
thank you for your email. Today is truly a historic day! I finally feel that all of our faithful attention to social issues of these times as illustrated by Earth Day, UN celebrations, worldly brotherhood, racial equality and the various peace emblems that we stress at [school name] will have a say at the highest level of government. Thanks to these efforts, I now have the opportunity to send a heretofore unexpected amount of my present and future wealth to the leaders of our great nation to be used as they see fit, because, you see, they believe spreading it around is better for everyone. We can be relieved to know that they know better than I what my money should be used for. I would love to help, and actually intended to support the new music program healthily, but I am in the first group of those deemed not to have paid my fair share and alas, must do my patriotic duty. I refer all future fundraising requests to whomever voted for our president-elect.
Until then, enjoy the Change!
Respectfully,
[name redacted]

Needless to say, I'm dying to hear the response.

How in the world can you say that. Here, on LGF, for MONTHS, we have been complaining about the MSM holding back reporting on news items that should have been brought to the forefront. Information that Americans needed to know to make honest decisions on the candidates.

And now you thank someone in the MSM from reporting about some problems with in the McCain camp?

What kind of fucking hypocrisy is that?

Down, boy. This WAS reported - that there was tension between the camps. The dirty details were not - and from what I hear, a lot of it sounds like stuff mean people say about each other behind their backs. None of it has any evidence, so it sounds like gossip to me. Gawker level stuff.

176 Percopius  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 6:17:11pm

So is the racial breakdown of who voted for Obama proof that whites in general are not as racist as other races like say, African Americans, who voted down racial lines compared to whites? If a white votes for a white because he is white is that racism? If a black votes for a black because he is black, is that racism? What race polices itself the hardest when it comes to racism? Do we need a to have black or minority or victim class Republican candidates from now on? Is electing a candidate by race a one-trick pony, or can it be more than once?

Can we defuse the weapon of Racism that the Democrats have been beating us over the head with forever?

re: #137 mahatma coat

elucidate so

Sure. A marriage license is a piece of paper issued by a clerk at a county office building to any two male and female jackasses that walk in the door. The Declaration of Independance and the Constitution guarantee freedom to pursue happiness and equal protection under the law. There is no legal basis to deny a gay couple a marriage license. NONE OF THIS FORCES A CHURCH TO ACCEPT GAYS OR CONSECRATE A GAY MARRIAGE BEFORE THE EYES OF (your) GOD. So, there you have it. Gays will never be 'married' in your eyes because your god forbids it.

Here's Wiki entry for "Yellow Journalism" (that's AKA the MSM as we know it today): "Yellow journalism is journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists."

Frankly, now that I think about it, this Beatles performance has actually been kind of disappointing."

Except that instead of 16-year-old girls, we now have Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann. Did I just repeat myself?

I find this hard to believe, let alone accept. These would be the same people that picked her, gagged her for two weeks, fed her to Gibson and Couric and then decided to let her be her own person on the trail? This is nothing less than blame-shifting. McCain has no one to blame for himself.

One thing that was mentioned on Charles' "social conservative" thread is worthy of mention here; McCain is exactly why there is no room for a "personality" leader in the GOP--now or ever. McCain ran from his heart, bey he had no real plan. He never, not that I noticed, ever said what the details of his economic or social plan would have been. He was, in my assessment, more a personality than a politician. He never enunciated any social or political principles. Given that he was not a true conservative, it's not hard to see why.

There's no need. He's a rock star. A god. It doesn't matter what the hell he does. At a Beatles concert in 1964, did a sixteen-year-old girl ever suddenly stop swooning and say "hey, wait a second, John Lennon just played a wrong chord, and Paul McCartney keeps singing flat. Frankly, now that I think about it, this Beatles performance has actually been kind of disappointing."

Usually 18 year old girls no longer like what 16 year olds do.

I want to hear the truth about Palin. I don't want to hear the gossipy, snippy junk, but I do want to hear anything of substance, good or bad.

If she's going to take a position in the party, I want to know what's up with her. If she's really a moron -- or very possibly brilliant -- I want to hear about it.

Remember the old story about the ongoing battle between Winston Churchill and Lady Astor?

(While at a party, Winston Churchill obviously has had more than his share of spirits, and is acting the part.)

LADY ASTOR: "You, Sir, are DRUNK!"

CHURCHILL: "And you, Madame, are UGLY. However, tomorrow I shall be SOBER!"

Point being, the only real weakness that Sarah Palin's critics can come up with is ignorance, plus a lack of tough seasoning at the top level of the political arena. However, after a little training Sarah will be able to say to her critics, "And you people are MEAN and SPITEFUL. However, tomorrow I shall be EXPERIENCED."

That's what they're afraid of. She can change, but they're stuck in the same old rut.

Well. What you've cited there is

1) a paper written a decade and a half ago,

2) pretty decently written, judging the portion available, and

3) reveals to me that,

Bobby Jindal received his M.Litt. in Politics earlier this year from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He is currently an Associate at McKinsey & Co. in Washington, D.C. He has been accepted at Harvard Medical School and Yale Law School, and has the option of returning to Oxford for a D.Phil. in Politics. He will be deciding which path to pursue soon. A convert to Christianity, he was born and raised Hindu.

295 guitarguy  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 6:32:30pm

Carl Cameron (Foxnews) was just on O'Reilly.
He had a lot of news/gossip concerning friction between Sarah Palin and the McCain camp.
She didn't know which nations were in NAFTA.
She didn't know that Africa was a continent and not a country.
O'Reilly went to bat for her, stating that she was an intelligent woman and how a few civics lessons would've helped her.
But Cameron had more to say.
The friction began almost immediately after McCain chose her, and went downhill from there.
There was mention of a campaign staffer - who liked Sarah Palin - being fired for his vocal support for her.
It was pretty bad, and as I listened I could envision Chris Matthews, Bill Maher, The View, etc. all having a field day with this stuff.

McCain loses, and they throw Sarah under the bus.

Or pea soup as part of public school menus? Hell, if the man can turn my home state around without being sucked into the political mire, and keep to traditional conservative principles, then he might have a chance. As far as Charles' criticism on his pushing a creation curriculum, I still feel that was a political bone; he won more than 50% of the vote--against four Democrats-- in a primary election and avoided a run-off. That took some political skill and probably required a deal or two. The creationism curriculum was probably part of it.

Here it is: "Barack has a 'yiddishe nishama'"...

Thanks... from the article...

"He got clobbered in the black areas since he came across as a Harvard Law professor," he recalled, noting that by Obama's senate bid four years later, the state senator had come a long way as an orator. "When he spoke to black audiences in 2004 he had the rhythm and knew how to speak. He could have taught a thing or two to Dr. [Martin Luther] King."

Calling Lee Strausberg. Does anyone need further proof that Obama changes his accent depending on who he is speaking to?

re: #19 intifan

If you really want to depress yourself, read John F. Kennedy's inaugural address. Then realize how much more conservative he was than John McCain...

That's why I say ... political/economic conservatives need to stop thinking in terms of 4 and 8 years. We need to start thinking in terms of decades and generations. We are losing the whole bloody country to idiotic long-discredited ideas and irrational modes of thought, and FAST.

The socialists/communists realized they weren't going to get one of their own elected President without fundamentally changing the basic character of the American people. They haven't quite accomplished that yet, because they needed their media whores and $600 million to get Obama elected, but they are dangerously close. The only way to turn this around long term is to start the process of taking back the schools and the media.

And we better damn well understand that believing in creationism and being anti-gay marriage and anti-abortion does not automatically lead to an understanding of capitalist economics or the foundations and principles of American democracy!

And something just occurred to me ... it may well be that Obama really will do his level best to have a successful middle-of the road Presidency. What better way to further lull people into complacency ... get them thinking "Hey, this 'socialist' stuff isn't so bad ..." even if it's not really socialism yet.

That's one helluva' bone.

I know there is a prayer list floating around off-site, I think Goddess-if-the-classroom either has it or has access to it. I would really appreciate this couple being put on it. Here is why.

I ran into this young woman yesterday and asked how her family was. A few years ago I was trading in a few shares and she was the receptionist. She had recntly married and we would exchange banter about when the family was going to start. Finally it did and then after 3 years a second boy was born. That was 2 years ago. I had lost contact for that long.

So, I ask her how the family is and she asks me what I mean, and ask if there are any more planned and just looks at me and says "I have just lost my youngest boy"

What a jerk! I felt just stupid. I said I was so sorry and That I had upset her and she "no, Im ok" and she walked off. I could see she was upset, however.

I prayed about this and have since found out she is not coping. They lost their child in August. I have got hold of a small book by John MacArthur called "Safe in the Arms of God" and I rang her boss and asked him to broach the issue of whether she would accept this small token that just might offer the comfort they seek. He came back within 2 minutes and said it would very much appreciated.

Please prayer for Natash and her husband, that may have the comfort of knowing that their precious wee son is, indeed, safe in the arms of God.

Thanks, Jeff

Charles, I know you don't like certain aspects of Jindal's beliefs, but I've seen nothing to indicate that he's NOT actually a good governor for Louisiana. He seemed to handle the storm season this year well, and he's above the typical Louisiana corruptio so far.

My favorite Republican right now is Eric Cantor, but Jindal is a good governor.

I live in Louisiana, and I don't like Jindal's exorcism experience, nor his support for a bill here that would allow creationism to be taught in schools. The exorcism experience I have chalked up to youthful enthusiasm as a new convert to Christianity.

For the most part, he has been a decent governor (except for some disastrous appointees), and he has approached most things as a conservative American, not as a "religious" American conservative.

Got any ideas what elections in LA can cost. Might have been worth it.

Look, actions have consequences. If a town, school district, or state adopts a curriculum that's so far out of the mainstream that its high school graduates have to take remedial courses in order to get into national universities because the universities do not recognize the validity of the curriculum, then there are going to be political consequences for the people who picked the curriculum in the first place. Let the damn districts teach what they want and see what happens when their students can't advance and can't get jobs.

I can't wait to see what happens when Barry cannot pull all the rabbits out of his hat that he promised. I was surprised how palpable the "Okay, now what happens" hangover was with my liberal friends. Bush will be gone, their guy will be the one in charge, they've been completely consumed with their irrational "blame everything on Bush". You can just hear a massive, "Oh, s---" building.

I said on a previous thread that I think it will go down like this:

Once it is apparent that BHO cannot deliver the "rainbow shitting unicorns" (h/t Doppleganglander), the blame for this will be place directly on the American people for still being too bitter, clingy, racist, etc., and not supporting him or his agenda. Never mind that it's the American people that elected him in the first place.

I think the tone of his campaign has set the precedence for this excuse to be used.

The best Fields story I heard came from Groucho Marx. Marx visited Fields' house in the late 30's. Grouch went into the attic and discovered $50,000 worth of booze, still in shipping crates.

"Bill", said Marx, "Don't you know that Prohibition is over?"
"Yes," replied Fields, "But it might come back!"

My favorite was when, near the end of Fields' life, a friend discovered him reading the Bible and asked him "Bill, what are you doing?"

To which Fields answered: "Looking for loopholes".

WC Fields was a treasure.

So how long do we have before the goons show up for my firearm?

You have a firearm in NYC? ;) I thought that basically took an act of Congress.

Firearms will probably be grandfathered in, but BUY AMMO NOW. I went to a gun shop today after arranging a group buy, and that guy said that the ammo companies have told him to stop quoting prices from the catalogs. Prices are going to go up before the inauguration because of increased demand. The demand will be up because after the inauguration Mr. Obama may well institute his idea of crippling taxes on ammo rather than a gun ban. Buy lots of ammo. Buy it now.

That's playing with kids' futures.

re: #288 Cognito

All of which I think is sorta rockin'. Does the crazy part come later?

With all due respect to dear Charles, I think Bobby Jindal is super. He is extremely intelligent, thus far has been very above-board in his dealings (a rarity in Louisiana), and is doing good things in Louisiana - God knows Louisiana needs a smart, honest person at the helm.

Gov. Jindal was for ID in schools as one possible view - which is a minus for Charles (I don't think it belongs in schools at all - it is worthless tripe). Based on what I've read, he couches his comments purely in terms of God somehow having a hand in evolution - that the whole of creation must have a Creator involved - the old "God doesn't play dice with the Universe" thing - not ID in the sense of God creating the world 4000 years ago or whatever - he's too intelligent to believe that nonsense, but he obviously plays a balancing game of social conservatism versus intelligence and a very touty education.

Gov. Jindal, while at Oxford, wrote a scholarly paper that mentioned exorcism but was skeptical in its comments. That, as far as I know, is his only connection with the subject. He's not out there handling snakes or purging demons, in other words.

More importantly, imho, Jindal sponsored the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act - a bill to eliminate the moratorium on offshore oil and gas drilling over the U.S. outer continental shelf. Stupid enviro Republicans and others don't like that. I don't like Stupid enviro Republicans.

I have a question for anyone on here who is Jewish. I have wondered this for a long time and I hope I don't offend anyone.

How can the Jewish people support the Dems when they are pro abortion?
How can they support Obama when he voted against the Born Alive Act?

After suffering through Hitler I would think that they would find BO and all he stands for abhorrent.

The answer comes down to what jews basic belief system is. The jews walk around on an egalitarian framework, in other words they believe in a fair chance for all, if you work hard and you play hard. They see that the Democrats propose that through everything they say. Thats why you will have die-hard Jewish supporters who will vote nothing but Democrat under the belief that it proposes an egalitarian based system when in reality its far from the truth.

Having said that, all Lizards, conservatives, libertarians, disaffected Democrats and everyrone else take note: Not only are the Democrats our primary opposition, but we need to take on with all we have every other media and online outlet, and be the loyal opposition at every turn.

The left has been on offense for eight years now, pounding mercilessly every day on Bush and conservatism. Well, now we play offense, Start today, be smart about it, agitate, take action and be outspoken. If you haven't already, start your own sites, be creative and do what you can where you live. If you're in a state where a Senate seat is open in 2010, get busy and support a candidate.

Well, if that stuff about her ignorance is true, I'm beginning to have second thoughts about her. Apparently, Fox News reported that among other things, she couldn't name the countries in North America and she thought Africa was a country and South Africa was part of the country of Africa.

She may have fantastic practical knowledge and native political skill, and she is not stupid, but that degree of ignorance about the world does give one pause. Not that Obama's ignorance, which is of a different sort, doesn't as well, perhaps even more so.

Tigger What should make you wonder about this report is this: Sarah was raised by schoolteachers, was elected as Gov of her state! And you think these things they say about her are TRUE? Come on, you are falling for their game.

Yep. Sad but true and it's already happening here in CA. The UC Regents rejected curricula from several Christian schools as being scientifically invalid. This is basic market correction; if you're selling a product that doesn't sell or people cannot use, you have to sell the one they can use. If a few more universities and colleges reject these curricula, then this might no longer be an issue we have to discuss.

re: #299 Charles

He took part in an exorcism, then claimed it cured the subject of cancer. It's not hard to find this story on the web.

Here is the article, for those interested in reading it.

Read the article all the way through, and I think you will find Jindal, while a believing Christian, does not have the answers on whether certain events were miracles.

It is basically about a friend of his who felt she had been healed at a Charismatic Christian event. Jindal does not commit himself - he asks a lot of questions throughout the article and debates with himself over the subject of miracles.

Example:

Can a Christian be "possessed"? What precipitated her attack and will it happen again? Susan has talked with ministers, charismatic pastors, and others. It took months before we could reestablish our friendship and she was able to trust me. Though I do not have the answers she desperately seeks, I have provided comfort and support whenever Susan has fears or doubts.

There is a disclaimer at the end, as follows:

Was the purpose of that night served when so many individuals were inducted into the Church? Did I witness spiritual warfare? I do not have the answers, but I do believe in the reality of spirits, angels, and other related phenomena that I can neither touch nor see.

I don't want to get into some long-winded thing here -- but (a couple of years ago) there was a big hullabaloo about Pharmacists substituting placebo pills (sugar pills) in lieu of providing patients their actual medication -- the sugar pills would be randomly mixed in with the actual, medicinal pills...(done to "save money")...that practice was deemed "unethical." (Here in Alberta there is also an on-going dispute about providing public funding to certain practices deemed quackery -- including Chiropractors...some don't like the fact that the public pays for people, for example, getting what's called "neck manipulations" -- this led to the death of a woman here...there's another one who's been paralyzed, neck down, and is suing/has sued the Alberta govt.)

461 Babydoc97  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 9:11:38pm

This is EXACTLY what is wrong with the GOP leadership, and at the risk of annoying the Grand Lizard, I was appalled at the previous post on this.

McCain was NOT generating any excitement in conservatives at all until he chose Palin as his running mate. The Rockefeller/fiscal-issues only republicans are responsible for this loss. Bush was great in standing up to islamofascism, but utterly stupid in his idiotic 'compassionate conservative' programs. If you want to be a socialist, then join the DNC. If you want to be a conservative, then you can't support the idea that it is the federal government's job to be a national nanny. These vicious attacks by McCain's campaign eggheads is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to deflect attention away from the moronic efforts to try to be "socialist lite" against the wealth redistributors. Trying to blame Palin's pro-life, pro-family pro-gun and pro-God persona for McCain's defeat is hypocrisy of the same magnitude as the standard double-think drivel that passes for cogent thought on HuffPo or Kos.

Our Republic has descended into the mobocracy our Founding Fathers were afraid would develop. We either need to roll up our sleeves to fight for the ideologic basis upon which this magnificent country was built, or we need to be ready to rebuild it once the leftists finish destroying it.

"Rev" Wright's bellowing curse against the US seems to have come true. If you thought the Carter years were bad, get ready to grab your ankles for the next 4 years...especially if the libtards within the GOP have the gall to blame social conservatives like Palin for the defeat. Palin - in spite of all her faults noted when she was ambushed by the MSM - is an absolute genius compared to that asshat Biden (who was given a free ride by the press despite his multiple stupid ass comments during the campaign).

McCain's refusal to carpet bomb the airwaves with Rev Wright and Bill Ayers, along with his antipathy towards conservatives for most of his congressional career - those things led to his loss. The idea that a conservative will ever be given a fair presentation by the MSM is a dangerously false assumption for a true GOP candidate to make.

The idea that conservative social positions are losing elections is utterly wrong. Proposition 8 passed in California, DESPITE the state voting overwhelmingly for the marxist-in-chief.

462 Gus  Wed, Nov 5, 2008 9:20:34pm

I look forward to the demise of the Huffington Post. Given that they basically stayed afloat in large part because of their lambasting of the Bush administration. Now that Barack is about to be in office for the next four years they will run out of front line attacks against the standing administration since they will engage in a great deal of self-censorship.

re: #182 Palandine

Don't know. Seems to be a winning strategy. Gay "marriage" bans pass in California (!) and Arizona.

I don't see the passage of Prop 8 in California as being necessarily a clear victory for social conservativism so much as it was a victory against the gay-activist strategy of trying to force their position from the top down via judicial activism.

To put it another way, I think that Prop 8 won because although some of its supporters may have been strongly anti-gay, the amendment itself was not a radical attack on gays. It's significant that Prop 8 does not negate or weaken California's "domestic partnership" laws, which are so comprehensive that many observers regard them as providing, for all practical purposes, a form of same-sex "civil union" (even though the DP laws don't actually use the phrase "civil union.") And I would assume that Prop 8 did not attack DP law because Prop 8 supporters well understood that they'd lose dramatically by going that route.

(By way of contrast, in my home state of Virginia, voters in November 2006 approved a heavy-handed constitutional amendment that sweepingly banned same-sex "domestic partnerships" and "civil unions" in addition to same-sex "marriages." But that wouldn't have flown in California.)
