Obama Apologizes to Nancy Reagan

Politics | Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 5:19:03 pm PST

I’ll give him credit for at least recognizing he went a bit over the line: Obama telephones Mrs. Reagan.

President-elect Barack Obama telephoned Nancy Reagan shortly after his debut news conference on Friday to apologize for what he called a “careless and off handed remark” he made about her during his appearance in Chicago.

President-elect Obama Transition Team Spokesperson Stephanie Cutter said: “President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference. The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation.”

I would say at least he had the decency to know to apologize, but if he had decency, he wouldn't have said it in the first place. I guess I'll leave it at- he had the intelligence to realize he needed to apologize.

The more salient point was in that conference what he did not say to calm the markets.

Ron & Nancy will forgive him, but more of our economy has vaporized while awaiting some plan for order and inbound policy direction.

17 Typicalwhitey  Fri, Nov 7, 2008 5:23:09pm

Look.
He hit Nancy to cover up his own stupid answer.
He said he had talked to all the former Presidents, the living ones anyway.

Then he realized how stupid that was and to distract (where have I heard that word before..) from it he slapped at a former First Lady.

I give him NO CREDIT whatsoever.

He's as bad as Biden in this regard. Remember, he slandered U.S. troops on the second day of his campaign, and said that he would bomb Pakistan a couple of days later. He hasn't had his foot out of his mouth since, in an unscripted setting.

Between his attitude and "white cops can't do nothin' anymore", it's going to be a fun four years.

61 Captain Jack  Fri, Nov 7, 2008 5:28:06pm

Contrary to the media puff pieces done on Ronald Regan when he died ALL of the media & popular culture hated him for his entire presidency. The media pounded him from day 1 as a war monger and threat to world peace. Pop musicians made songs & hollywood movies portrayed themes that the republicans were the death of us all. It was like daily propaganda from all angles. Obama has somehow gotten the "benefit of the doubt" and a non-adversarial approach from the media. He is only in office because of a self-hating liberal racist elite media and unlimited finance. So much for campaign finance reform and competing on a level playing field. If a Republican had spend 4 times his opponent on an election the media would have stories out today about how he bought the election. If the market had tanked 10% since the election the media would say it was due to McCain. As you get older and see the same sh#$ over and over you realize its all a manipulation. The Cake is a lie.

Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us that they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy "accommodation." And they say if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers. They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer--not an easy answer--but simple.

If you and I have the courage to tell our elected officials that we want our national policy based upon what we know in our hearts is morally right. We cannot buy our security, our freedom from the threat of the bomb by committing an immorality so great as saying to a billion now in slavery behind the Iron Curtain, "Give up your dreams of freedom because to save our own skin, we are willing to make a deal with your slave masters." Alexander Hamilton said, "A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one." Let's set the record straight. There is no argument over the choice between peace and war, but there is only one guaranteed way you can have peace--and you can have it in the next second--surrender.

Admittedly there is a risk in any course we follow other than this, but every lesson in history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face--that their policy of accommodation is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight and surrender. If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we have to face the final demand--the ultimatum. And what then? When Nikita Khrushchev has told his people he knows what our answer will be? He has told them that we are retreating under the pressure of the Cold War, and someday when the time comes to deliver the ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary because by that time we will have weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. He believes this because from our side he has heard voices pleading for "peace at any price" or "better Red than dead," or as one commentator put it, he would rather "live on his knees than die on his feet." And therein lies the road to war, because those voices don't speak for the rest of us. You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery.

--Ronald Reagan, 1964

re: #61 Captain Jack

More on what looks like democrat vote fraud in MN.

I am a small town newspaper editor in a purplish part of Minnesota. Based on what I've read and observed, the Coleman/Franken election recount fails the smell test many times over.

With Minnesota election rules and the optical scanning system, each ballot must be checked, rechecked, accounted for and re-accounted for by a number of election judges. Each judge's tally must match the others', and with the scanning machine's tape produced the night of the election. The machine prints out three copies of each ward's results on a single tape, which has to be signed in triplicate by the judges, and sent to the county seat. A day or so later, each town or township gets back a third of the tape it sent in on election night for convassing at an open meeting.

This sounds accurate. It is the same procedure we followed on Election night in my polling station. None of us could leave until everything had been examined and signed by all election officials.

I was 9 when President Reagan first took office. I remember listening to him and just being in awe of what he was saying. It would be in the manual as a warning instructing on recharger usage.

Usually, the chargers for portable electronics are inferior.

Some batteries are more tolerant of overcharging and retaining full memory or capacity. Stock batteries should be allowed to discharge fully before recharge.
Recharge should be complete, usually "green" light. Removing the battery before complete will cause low end batteries to have a reduced capacity.

If it is Lithium check out this site:
Lithium batteries

Bottom line: buy a spare battery and keep one charge but do no leave it on the charger & rotate them as needed.

Don't forget when the Ayers story was making news Obama and his thugs kept making the lame stretch that since Walter Annenberg was a friend of Reagan, then somehow it was OK that the terrorist Ayers and the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers spending his money came with the imprimatur of Reagan. It was a cheap, cynical ploy but probably persuaded a few dunces out there.

Now that he's elected, he can get back to cracking jokes about Reagan's wife. He probably does this all the time behind closed doors when he's yukking it up with Ayers, Wright and Rashid Khalidi.

The current US AG came into office thinking he'd have Gitmo and the warrants issues all cleaned up in a month or so. He was quoted shortly after as saying, "I had no idea....."

And this brings us to the great sin of the Bush administration- not leveling with the American public. Not telling us that US security units have quashed HUNDREDS of attacks here and abroad. That we have stopped and/or investigated dozens of mega attacks in the US alone.

I can't wait to read a real history of this administration in 25 years and find out many whys I have been wondering about.

I am glad he apologized. Regardless of how or who this came about, I would like to see his opposition spend their efforts on more important things he will blunder.

Just for my own curiosity, I wonder how much a current administration divulges about the state of affairs early on, to the incoming administration.

Other than my own gut reaction, I don't think he really has any idea as to what the big picture is just yet.

Man, this is going to be so much different than the Harvard Law Review position.

Yep - he'll actually have to produce something the American public can judge him on.

I don't know that the media and/or the left think Reagan was great even now. Heck, the Union tells me all the time what a bad president he was (because of the air traffic controllers mainly). But we don't care what the media or Hollywood thinks. President Reagan was the best president in our time.

Reagan's firing the air traffic controllers was a clear sign to the Russians that this was a man who kept his word. It wasn't a popular decision, but it was the right one. Meaning no disrespect to John McCain, but in some ways Reagan, who never saw combat, had more courage. His conviction and commitment to his principles was humbling.

I was 9 when President Reagan first took office. I remember listening to him and just being in awe of what he was saying. I had posters of Reagan in my room, I had Reagan calendars (my parents fed this obsession). I honestly believe I never went through a liberal/democrat stage because of the way Reagan affected me.

I'm ashamed to say I did go through a somewhat liberal stage after the end of the Cold War, although I never ceased believing you cannot accommodate evil.

This morning:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

Now:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

yes, you've got it. Whenever universities sense a soft money source, they factor it into their costs and raise tuition accordingly.

Want research money? Sure, they'll raise the cost of "lab" courses.

NEH/NEA money? Sure, get your 150,000 humanities degree.

Its ridiculous. Colleges could save oodles of money by slicing the administrative fluff -- the equal opportunity crap, the women's dean, layers of academic and student deans, any office of minority, grant specialists, admissions layers, advanced special-ed on steroid stuff -- it costs a fortune ... for nothing.

Students - professors - one dean - provost - president and a few more for billing, grades and janitorial. No more.

I don't know that the media and/or the left think Reagan was great even now. Heck, the Union tells me all the time what a bad president he was (because of the air traffic controllers mainly). But we don't care what the media or Hollywood thinks. President Reagan was the best president in our time.

My father was a union printer (GCIU), shop steward, and such. He made lots and lots of money under Reagan. My father loved Reagan. Most hard working, America-loving, blue collar types did.

The old KGB types in Russia despise Soros. Don't forget, Russia also had to shut down their trading as a result of this international financial crisis.

For those interested, I posted the National Security Briefing earlier.

Thank you for reposting this!

Most of the people who know me on LGF know that I have a Congenital Heart Defect. Part of my defect is that I am Cyanotic, meaning that I have a lower amount of oxygen in my blood than most people. The best way to tell if someone is Cyanotic is to look at their hands and face - their fingertips will be clubbed with a bluish tinge behind the nailbeds, and their lips will also have a bluish tinge.

I'm in the kitchen today while my mom is sitting on the couch watching Obama. Suddenly she she yells "My God! His lips are as blue as yours are!" And she's seen Cyanosis, so she knows what she be talkin' about.

re: #420 NoSubmission

It was back in the pre-links days. She she wrote about a NYPost writer, I forget what his name was, but she called him a 'bald-headed old Jew.'

I found a link:

" Over drinks after dinner I overheard Angelou say something I couldn't believe she'd say, and I told her so. "Excuse me," I said. "Am I hearing right, or did you not say that Nasser was a great man?"

She smiled at me, warmly.

"Gamal Nasser was a great man, a great statesman, one of the greatest figures in history," she said, referring to the man who was the leader of Egypt from 1952 to 1970.

She had known him well, she said. She and her husband lived in Egypt during his reign. I asked her what she thought Nasser had done for his people. "Nasser brought Egypt into Africa," she said.

"I thought God did that," I replied.

"I'm not speaking geographically," she said, although not as warmly. She then went into a kind of Marxist explanation of Nasser's grandeur, details of which have escaped me. But the rest is clear, as if it happened yesterday.

The room was quiet as a library. I said: "Nasser hooked up with the Soviets and organized an Arab jihad to destroy Israel. He sent his troops out to kill the Jews, and his troops died in the Sinai. He devoured his young and in doing so destroyed his economy. His legacy is the graveyard, and not only for the dead. His people have to live in the tombs. And you call him a great man!"

She left the room in high dudgeon. When I looked around, I noticed most of the crowd had slipped out Jews, most of them, and g
