The monsters who perpetrated the Bali nightclub bombings are ex-terrorists, and Indonesian cleric Abu Bakr Bashir is calling on Muslims to follow their example and murder as many infidels as they can: Become terrorists, cleric urges.

AS the Bali bombers prepared for their executions, radical Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir urged Muslims in their home villages to follow them as terrorists.

After visiting the bombers’ mother Tariyem in this tiny rural hamlet, Bashir emerged to praise Mukhlas and Amrozi and fellow bomber Imam Samudra as Islamic heroes who had brought honour to themselves and their families.

“Their fighting spirit in defending Islam should be followed,” the ageing bearded preacher said. “We will win the fight in this world or die as martyrs.

I vote for option B.

Please. We don't call them terrorists anymore. The accepted term is "guys who happen to live in my neighborhood."

Since these are ex-terrorists, however, the term should actually be "guys who no longer live in my neighborhood."

Feral and Rabid. I think this illustrates perfectly how it is that if God created everything why would have created evil if he is a good and loving God.

It is obvious that these men were not innately defective and they didn't have an organic brain disease. However, they were infected with ideology that turned them into mass murdering monsters - who knew exactly what they were doing.

If they had been raised in a loving home of almost any other variety of faith - they would have committed these atrocities.

And how can we call putting someone on a leash an atrocity by comparison? Depraved, yes. Atrocity, no.

Meanwhile, Spanish appeaser of terrorists (Zapatero) is wetting himself because Obama returned his phone call congratulating him on succeeding Pres. Bush (Hombre-With-Balls-Grandes, as jihadists call Pres. Bush).

Spanish Wuss Zapatero wants to extend his limp hand to Pres Elect Obama & offer limp support, such as denying Spanish asylum to Osama's son Omar who wanted to plant his flag in Al Andalus this week.

That's showing jihadists some cojones...

It is obvious that these men were not innately defective and they didn't have an organic brain disease. However, they were infected with ideology that THEY ALLOWED to turn them into mass murdering monsters - who knew exactly what they were doing. It was all about free choice.

If they had been raised in a loving home of almost any other variety of faith - they would most likely have NOT have committed these atrocities.

And how can we call putting someone on a leash an atrocity by comparison? Depraved, yes. Atrocity, no.

Dogs are higher-order animals than jihadists--dogs are domesticated & crave human attention & respond to training.

Please don't insult dogs who serve people loyally, are kind to childre, are considered man's best friend, and work as working dogs for people with disabilities.

60 mannyishere  Sat, Nov 8, 2008 1:32:23pm

Australia was one of the nations that lost most people to the evil work of these monsters. And yet, we managed to find apologists for these goons. We had news reports that some of the surviving victims of the bombings made presentations to the Australian PM to lobby the Indonesians not to execute these men. Because that would reduce us to these men's evil.

So much for justice. We are all for moral equivalence. We are NOT like these evil men. We are NOT taking the life of innocent holiday goers providing work and opportunity for those in Bali. We ARE punishing the unrepentant violent men that so wantonly took the lives of hundreds. Good riddance to trash.

My reaction to this is the same as it is to Hussein's hanging. Death, death and more death out of the Islamic world. Even though this is deserved justice, it is still more death. When will the islamic world wake up and realize that the only time they are mentioned in the news is when death and destruction are the topic? No scientific or artistic accomplishments, just death.

The authorities who had the Bali bombers executed are in violation of Islam and better watch their backs.

Hadith Volume 1, Book 3, Number 111:

Narrated Ash-Sha'bi:

Abu Juhaifa said, "I asked Ali, 'Have you got any book (which has been revealed to the Prophet apart from the Qur'an)?' 'Ali replied, 'No, except Allah's Book or the power of understanding which has been bestowed (by Allah) upon a Muslim or what is (written) in this sheet of paper (with me).' Abu Juhaifa said, "I asked, 'What is (written) in this sheet of paper?' Ali replied, it deals with The Diyya (compensation (blood money) paid by the killer to the relatives of the victim), the ransom for the releasing of the captives from the hands of the enemies, and the law that no Muslim should be killed in Qisas (equality in punishment) for the killing of (a disbeliever).

Who Cares about Reality? We Have Laws!

We live in the age of "there awwta be a law."

Too many people earning too little money? "There awwta be a law to raise the minimum wage."

Businesses hire fewer people because they can't afford to pay the higher minimum wage? "There awwta be a law to expand jobless benefits and free health insurance."

Taxes must be hiked -- and the national debt sent into the trillions -- to finance all these expanding and growing "free" benefits? "There awwta be a law to print more money."

Inflation returns at higher levels than we ever had before? "There awwta be a law to ..." (We're not there yet, but check back in a couple of years)

I have an easier solution. Let's just outlaw pain, suffering and economic trouble. Let's pass a law requiring the stock market to keep going UP so that people don't lose money in their retirement accounts. Let's pass a law requiring that all medical care will be free. If this makes doctors unhappy, then let's just pass a law requiring that doctors be happy.

If laws are the answer to everything, and if laws can be counted on to alter outcomes without altering the nature of reality, then why not just have one law to take care of everything?

Kaczynski's office on its Web site says that during the same conversation, Obama told Kaczynski that he intends to continue plans for a missile shield in eastern Europe.

Obama's adviser denied the report.

"President Kaczynski raised missile defense, but President-elect Obama made no commitment on it. His position is as it was throughout the campaign: That he supports deploying a missile defense system when the technology is proved to be workable," McDonough said.

Ah, he will support it when it's proven. But will he still cancel it until then?

Iran blasts Obama's nuclear criticism

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran's parliament speaker has criticized U.S. President-elect Barack Obama for saying that Iran's development of a nuclear weapon is unacceptable.

Ali Larijani said Saturday that Obama should apply his campaign message of change to U.S. dealings with Iran.

"Obama must know that the change that he talks about is not simply a superficial changing of colors or tactics," Larijani said in comments carried by the semi-official Mehr News Agency.

"What is expected is a change in strategy, not the repetition of objections to Iran's nuclear program, which will be taking a step in the wrong direction."

Let's hope Obama realizes he wasn't elected to represent the Iranians.

OT: AIG reportedly in talks over new bailout

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- American International Group Inc. reportedly is seeking a new bailout from the U.S. government less than two months after the Federal Reserve came to the insurance giant's rescue with an $85 billion loan, according to a published report.
The Financial Times reported on its Web site late Friday, citing people close to the situation, that AIG executives were in negotiations Friday night with authorities over a plan that could involve a debt-for-equity swap and the government's purchase of mortgage-backed securities from AIG.
The FT said talks might still collapse, but noted that the insurer was pressing for a decision before it posts third-quarter results on Monday.
American International Group Inc. is expected to report third-quarter loss of 90 cents a share, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.
Leading industry analysts have said that turmoil in equity and credit markets has been hampering AIG's efforts to sell some of its businesses, a crucial part of the insurer's plan to repay billions of dollars in expensive government loans.
Rival insurers that may be considering bidding for AIG businesses are now facing their own problems as slumping stock prices and wider credit spreads cut into capital, Andrew Kligerman of UBS wrote to investors about a week ago.

Credit Suisse shuts down bond fund

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Swiss bank Credit Suisse Group said Saturday that it is shutting down a bond fund and its subfunds after their value was crushed by the global financial crisis, according to a published report.

The bank said it will close the CS Bond Fund (Lux) Target Return because the lack of liquidity in the market has made it impossible to sell assets to meet redemption requests, Reuters reported.

"In the course of the last days and weeks investors have significantly sold assets in a flight to liquidity. The volume of redemptions has meant that many subfunds have become too small to operate on practical and economic terms," Credit Suisse said in a statement.

Europe's financial problems are just coming to the surface.

Franklin Bank closed, 18th failure this year

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Houston-based Franklin Bank S.S.B. was closed by regulators Friday, the 18th bank failure this year amid the ongoing credit crisis.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation said in a statement that Franklin Bank had total assets of $5.1 billion as of Sept. 30 and $3.7 billion in total deposits.

And:

Security Pacific Bank seized by FDIC

AN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and state regulators seized Los Angeles-based Security Pacific Bank late Friday -- one of two banks to fail that day and the 19th to fail so far this year.
Pacific Western Bank, also based in Los Angeles, will assume all of the deposits of Security Pacific, the FDIC said in a statement.

Obama plans quick action on economy

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- President-elect Barack Obama pledged quick action to revive the ailing U.S. economy on Friday, emerging from a meeting with key economic advisors and saying a stimulus package would be his first action as president.
"I want to see a stimulus package sooner rather than later," Obama said. "If it does not get done in a lame duck session [of Congress], it will be the first thing I get done as president of the United States."
Flanked by advisors including former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and Xerox Chairman and CEO Anne Mulcahy, Obama said the American middle class needs a "rescue plan" including job-creation and an extension of unemployment insurance benefits. He also pledged to stick with the tax policies unveiled during his historic run for the White House and said he'd "review" the implementation of the Bush administration's plans to stabilize financial markets.

Putting aside President-elect Obama's Marxist positions and my distain for them, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the guy.

There is not "stimulus package" in the world that will fix this situation. The New Deal was pretty much a failure, it was WWII that ended the Great Depression.

Obama is running a clear risk of raising expectations and then getting crushed by the inability to make things happen. You have a year to 2 year time lag from when you decide to undertake a fiscal policy stimulus via spending and the impact hits the economy.

The Islamic faith is a creed of blood and death. They don't usually put it that bluntly, but that is what it is. The question is "What can we do to change this?"

I don't know the ultimate answer to that question but while we are puzzeling at it killing them, like in this example, is a good place to start.

The unfortunate fact is that, since it is a political system combined with a religious faith, you cannot question the faith without having the government power come down on you with all its might. So, let's just say, reformation is "unlikely".

The only way in the end for the people in those areas to be free of the 7th century death cult is unthinkable for the rest of the world.

I know of one precinct in Chicago where the judges (all

What is getting very little discussion is one of the root causes of the banking crisis - the fact that for political reasons only, the marketplace was delibertly manipulated in order to extend credit / mortgages to people on the basis of their social status and standing on not on their ability or history to repay those loans. Is Obama's New FCC Transition Head Talk Radio's 'Executioner'?

Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer warns that Barack Obama is signaling his designs on conservative talk radio with the rumored appointment of former FCC Commissioner Henry Rivera as the head of his FCC transition team:

Henry Rivera, a longtime radical leftist, lawyer and former FCC commissioner, is expected to lead the push to dismantle commercial talk radio that is favored by a number of Democratic Party senators. Rivera will play a pivotal role in preventing critics from having a public voice during Obama's tenure in office.

Rivera, who resigned from the FCC nearly a quarter-century ago during the Reagan years, believes in a doctrine of "communications policy as a civil rights issue".

That is because all of the smaller banks failed back in the 80s - there are very few smaller banks left to fail these days.

Actually there has been a rise in small, full-service, business-oriented banks in recent years.

Local businesses don't like big banks' lack of service and ignorance of local needs and conditions, or inability to specialize in specific industries. They also like the way local bankers can "do stuff" for them -- I know one who likes to think of himself as a busybody marriage broker. He fixes up his clients with suppliers and potential customers, anything to help them succeed. Another actually arranged to have the body of a customer's mother-in-law sped through customs.

And anyone from the neighborhood, in business or not, can just walk right in the front door of a local business bank, open an account, and be treated like a king.

There will always be local bankers, and big bankers jealous of their business.

Seems she never should have been taken off the kidney diet food by the other vet - having kidney failure again. And the whole $100 a prescription is pure bunk and hokum - the scrip for the UTI was $14 from this guy. The incontinence might be due to the kidneys and the UTI but might also involve a muck up from when the other vet neutered her. To heck with it. They make disposable diapers for dogs.

OPEC says more cuts could be on the way

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- OPEC president Chakib Khelil reportedly said on Saturday that further cuts in oil output from the OPEC nations could be on the way if attempts last month to reduce production fail to halt the current plunge in crude prices.
Khelil, who also serves as Algeria's energy mister, said an OPEC report would show by the end of the month whether all cartel members have enforced the reduction of 1.5 million barrels per day decided upon last month, according to the Associated Press.
Reasonable prices should range between $70 and $90 a barrel, he said, adding that he hoped production cuts would raise and stabilize prices to levels that make sense to both the exporters and the consumer nations, the AP reported.
Oil futures ended slightly higher Friday, but lost 10% for the week, as a bleak economic report showed that the U.S. unemployment rate soared to a 14-year high in October.

OPEC better get used to cutting production a lot. Maybe the President-elect can persuade them not to cut production after all...

re: #227 wahabicorridor

I've forgotten where I read it - it was this week - the European exposure to emerging markets is about 6 times what ALL the financial exposure in the U.S. is thought to be.

There's much worse news for Europe than this. In the US, commercial banks are required to maintain capitol reserves of, I believe, 10%. The bank failures in the US recently have been investment banks, which have no such constraints and were carrying hugely leveraged portfolios, with reserves of 2%, or less in some cases. So when their underlying assets started souring, the effect was multiplied by 40 or 50 times, and there just wasn't any real resource to back up the whole steaming pile.

Reserve requirements for commercial banks have kept most of them out of trouble so far. Policies like this were put in place after the Great Depression, for just these reasons. Also at that time, things like a strong Federal Reserve in control of monetary policy emerged. And whether you like deficit spending or not, it is an incredibly useful tool in times like these; it allows the government to basically borrow the nation's way out of many economic downturns by pumping money into an otherwise deflating economy. Whether it will be sufficient in this case remains to be seen; we're looking at a looming worldwide slowdown, and there's only so far such tools can go.

Meanwhile, over in Europe: Europe suffered as badly as anyone else during the Great Depression. But the nations over there never bothered establishing agencies similar to the Fed. They have no regulations concerning bank reserves, either, even for commercial banks. And almost ALL banks in Europe are now as heavily leveraged as our plummeting investment banks, with no safe haven anywhere. Finally, to be a member of the EU you must pass constitutional measures making deficit spending illegal, so they have their hands tied when it comes to borrowing their way out of trouble. They also simply lack economic mass; the EU itself is not the nation it fancies itself to be, and Europe remains a collection of small, squabbling economies and not one large one acting in a unified manner.

The collapse in Europe will be hard and will last a long time.

Russia will be tied down with bloody borders a thousand times worse than Chechnya as it confronts empowered Islamist forces to the West and South while China starts swallowing it from the East. OPEC says more cuts could be on the way

OPEC better get used to cutting production a lot. Maybe the President-elect can persuade them not to cut production after all...

I actually wrote that last line with a straight face.

They're basically screwed. The worse things get, the more incentive there is for OPEC members to cheat in order to keep their cash flow going.

The problem isn't production costs; those have stayed essentially flat for years and years. The problem is national budgets, which are based on selling their nation's only product - oil - at a particular price, and it hasn't taken long at all for them to get used to high prices. They've made exorbitant promises to their citizens, embarked on massive construction projects, and they're suddenly finding themselves without any dough to pay for it all.

I'm so sad.

As much as I'm enjoying cheaper gas - I saw $1.99 today, and if predictions of $50.00 per barrel prices hold true, we'll see gas under a buck and a half very soon - there's one downside to it. At four bucks a gallon, there was a strong commitment and incentive to find ways to kick the oil habit altogether. At today's prices, much of that incentive vanishes. And the long-term good that would come from getting rid of our dependence on oil is huge - we deprive our enemies of money, notably the Middle East as a whole, Russia and Venezuela; it gets worse for them when the rest of the world starts to adopt whatever solution we come up with; we aren't economically bound to tyrants, dictators and other low-lifes; and we're stronger as a nation - because of our self-sufficiency, we eliminate one really huge target, which is as simple to hose over as sinking a couple of tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Best of all: OPEC can go pound sand. Despite the quadrillions of dollars of wealth that have flowed through their hands over the last half-century, they have little if anything to show for it other than a tiny percentage of very rich families. Instead of plowing that money into expansion and diversification, they've poured it down a rat hole of self-indulgent excess, and divorcing ourselves from the source of all that wealth would allow us to kick back and watch them sink into the sunset.

But I'm still enjoying the short-term damage that low prices are causing them. Welcome to the global economy, folks!

Then the Russians will learn they are to small to poor and to sick to digest their part and they will be swallowed also. Ever see what happens when two snakes start eating a rat from opposite ends? The larger opens its mouth wider and keeps on swallowing.

Perhaps. As I understand it, Europe's Middle Eastern immigration problem is solving itself as we speak, because they're pulling up stakes and heading back to the homeland. Turns out even Europe's welfare states aren't much fun when the economy tanks, and the downturn in employment and wages is sending them packing.

There's a similar effect taking place in the US. Lots and lots and lots of those illegal alien jobs are among the first things that people cut back on when the economy sours - outdoor services, handyman services, and so on.

It's the perfect time to get that fence built.

I believe that the US still has the lowest overall tax rate in the Western world. Japan, although not formally part of the West, is just slightly higher than we are. The next major countries, in Europe, take a huge jump in taxation rates in comparison.

And: the US has the world's largest economy. Japan has the second largest.

Coincidence? I don't think so.

Agreed, the great lost opportunities of history will include what America could have done if McCain had been elected. Building Nuclear plants, drilling for oil, getting the oils shale industry up, brining clean coal online, would have had us ready to tell the oil producers of the Middle East and Venezuala just where to stick it. Here we are having won a war in Iraq and having the long term threats in their most vulnerable position in years and we fail by an act of will. Tragic but there it is.

Paranoia is too deeply embedded in the Russian psyche to ever take such a sensible course.

The key thing in dealing with the paranoid is not to deny their fantasies but to channel them in a direction acceptable to you. In a sense we did this in Iraq. We didn't try to convert the local fanatics into Jeffersonian Democrats or California Free Love advocates, we gave them other foriegn enemies to hate more than us.

Bali Terrorists’ Afterlife Surprise!
After being executed by the firing squad, the three Bali terrorists made their way to the pearly gates. There, they were greeted by George Washington.
"How dare you attack one of America’s strongest allies" yells Mr. Washington, slapping their faces. Patrick Henry comes up from behind: "You wanted to end our precious liberty, so they gave you death!" Henry punches them on their noses. James Madison comes up next, and says, "This is why I allowed the government to provide for the common defense!" He drops 3 large weights on their knees.
The terrorists are subjected to similar beatings from John Randolph of Roanoke, James Monroe and 65 other 18th-century American revolutionaries. As they writhes on the ground, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, George Mason each picks a terrorist up to hurl them back toward the gate where they are to be judged.
As the terrorists await their final journey to a very hot destination, one of the terrorist fell on his knees and screams, "This is not what I was promised!"
An angel replies: "I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you. What did you think I said?"

Just to lift to mood of woe in the US a little after the win by O.

New Zealand held its election yesterday. The socialists have been sent packing.

Labour and Comrade Helen Clark and her merry band of marxist lesbian girlfriends have been bested.

The Centre National Party has seized the treasure benches and the ACT Party of the right get to push them over the line into a solid majority and so have real power to push their bottom line philosophies. Education reform away from the crushing socialist mantra of leveling down, three strikes and you're out for serious felonies and serious reduction in central government power. The National party leader is a 45 year old self made millionaire banker who pulled himself up by his own bootstraps. From a poor boy in a State House from the wrong side of the tracks with a widowed mother and 4 other siblings to the Prime Minister.

Hopefully NZ will be able to weather the coming financial storm now with some confidence.

C: Well, I wish to complain. I got on the Bolton train and found myself deposited here in Ipswitch.
A: No, this is Bolton.
C: (to the camera) The pet shop man's brother was lying!
A: Can't blame British Rail for that.
C: In that case, I shall return to the pet shop!
He does.
C: I understand this IS Bolton.
O: (still with the fake mustache) Yes?
C: You told me it was Ipswitch!
O: ...It was a pun.
C: (pause) A PUN?!?
O: No, no...not a pun...What's that thing that spells the same backwards as forwards?
C: (Long pause) A palindrome...?
O: Yeah, that's it!
C: It's not a palindrome! The palindrome of "Bolton" would be "Notlob"! It don't work!
O: Well, what do you want?
C: I'm not prepared to pursue my line of inquiry any longer as I think this is getting too silly!
Sergeant-Major: Quite agree, quite agree, too silly, far too silly...

I vote for option B.

Me too, but it seems like 52% of Americans voted for option A.

I can only hope we have some strong willed general who can scare the crap out of Obama so thoroughly that Obama will essentially sign off on whatever he wants to do. Petraeus comes to mind.

My God the American people did such a stupid and dangerous thing Tuesday. 52% of us voted to blow their brains out. "McCain's too old and Palin's dangerously inexperienced!" some of them said.

BUT THEY ARE BOTH COURAGEOUS AND CONFIDENT PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND LOVE AMERICA. IN THE CLUTCH THEY COULD BE COUNTED ON TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

Oh, but Obama went to law school. That means he's smart.

The Republican Party would be better off be fret of all RINOs , Rockefeller Republicans and assorted NeoCon (born again converts from the liberal left) and other selfish wackos.

Build a traditional conservative Republican from the ashes of the old and they will come ...

... when they have suffered enough and become poorer and a hell of a lot less secure under the yoke of the socialist left!

Obama is dithering over hiring a Treasury Secretary to follow the terrorist money trail or find someone who will not. As you know the US Treasury is very powerful and controls the Secret Service.

Now, I notice that the article references “President Elect” about four times.

I am not sure if Obama is legally the “President Elect.” From what I can tell he is not – until the Electors vote him in. Until then he is the “President- designate.” This brings up an important point.

Charles mentioned that Obama may have been feeling ill after his first National Security Briefings (NSB) or what is referred to as the Daily Brief. But, when does he legally become eligible for said briefings? It’s true that he gets an office and some high salary such as GS-18 or there about.

Q: Is Obama legally eligible to get sensitive National Security Briefings?

[Information from Wikipedia]

A president-elect is a political candidate who has been elected president but who has not yet taken office, as it is still occupied by the outgoing president.

See: president-elect

[Stuff from Obama’s shill site]

"Doesn't Obama only become President-elect after the Electoral College votes?" -- Yes, that is technically true. Until then he could be more accurately called the President-designate. However, the long-time and widespread usage of President-elect for the winner on election day is too ingrained in the public's mind to worry about changing at this point..."

"The President-elect will also start receiving same national security briefings just like the President gets. The president and his staff will work with the new president to ensure a smooth transition."

See: president elect shill site

You got that right , but I'll tell you , the Republican Party doomed itself this election with McCain . Romney should have been the Choice . The Party deviated from its conservative roots and chose a moderate , and in addition ,if that weren't bad enough , McCain displayed an inability to make a wise choice before he ever gets elected, and chooses -Palin .
That aside , I take exception to remarks like the above which I criticized , as it makes Republicans look like blithering idiots , and certainly will do nothing to get the Party back on track . Remarks like that are an embarrassment , but it seems NOT to be the exception ...unfortunately .

Barry didn't do well at his first press conference because he has no experience. Perhaps people will remember that his first 4 year term as President will be the longest job he has ever held, a job for which he has no experience and is not qualified.

Radical Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashi urged Muslims in their home villages to follow them as terrorists.

Now is the time for Americans to go to their local police stations and take out an "order of protection" against this low life RADICAL MUSLIM CLERIC. Anyone have the exact quotation and translation of his fiery speech to his small group of muslim followers?

Someone please explain to me why we gave Indonesia mulitple millions of dollars in money and aid after their 2004 Tsunami?
